In Part 1, Tracy talks about the origins of Earle Nelson, his traumatic upbringing, both parents dying, his multiple traumatic brain injuries, and bouts of syphilis (which offered possible mercury and arsenic poisonings as treatment), his insatiable sexual appetite, and his overt religious fervor. Nelson had serval aliases and traveled all across the US to strangle women to death and sexually assault them post-mortem. There is a very long list of murders attributed to him and he worked in so quickly and randomly, he was very hard to pin down by authorities.
For research, Tracy referenced two books: The Laughing Gorilla by Robert Graysmith and The Gorilla Man Strangler Case by Alvin Esau
