Speaker 1 (00:06):
Welcome to the kinder mind podcast, where we're
devoted to opening upconversations and destigmatizing
mental health.
We'll bring you interviews withpractitioners in the field of
mental health, researchersuncovering new knowledge and
best practices for treatingmental health disorders, and
individuals sharing their mentalhealth journey.
Hi, I'm Dr Elizabeth Barlow.

(00:29):
I really wanted to start thispodcast so that I could connect
you with practitioners in thefield of mental health to really
talk about the specializationsthat are important to them and
the great groundbreaking workthat they're doing every day
working with clients who areexperiencing mental health
disorders.
I also wanted to bring currentresearch and best practices to

(00:50):
the forefront to talk about theexpansion of knowledge in the
mental health field.
I started kinder mind out of aneed that I saw that existed for
provisionally licensed mentalhealth providers and practicum
student providers when I wascompleting my practicum
experience on my journey tobecoming a mental health
provider, there weren't a lot ofopportunities out there to work

(01:13):
with clients directly and getthat valuable experience, and I
experienced the same challengeonce I graduated and I got my
provisional license.
It was really hard to find anopportunity where I could work
with clients face to face, getthat experience and continue
following my passion and helping.
Kinder mind offers theopportunity for these
provisionally licensed providersand practicum intern providers

(01:33):
to work directly with a highqualified supervisor to provide
those services to clients andexpand our reach, meeting the
need of this mental healthcrisis that we're currently in
and have been in for some time.
Through this podcast, I hope toreally bring new light to the
conversations about whatindividuals throughout the

(01:55):
country are seeing andexperiencing every day when it
comes to mental health.
We know that by talking we feela sense of more connectedness
to each other and it reallyhelps to normalize that,
whatever you're going throughwith your mental health, you're
not alone.
There are others out there thatare experiencing either the

(02:16):
same type of challenges orchallenges of their own, even if
they're different.
As humans, we need to feelconnected.
Our mental health is the lowestwhen we lack that sense of
connectedness, when we isolate, when we don't feel understood or
supported by other human beings.

(02:36):
So by continuing to haveconversations and instilling a
community of caring among eachother, our families, our
friendships, our communities, Ifeel we will one day break the
stigma of mental health, mentalillness, mental disorders and
better prepare ourselves forresilience and connection and

(02:57):
supportiveness of others.
I'm so glad you're joining mefor this podcast and listening
to all of our upcoming episodes.
We're going to have a greatlist of guest speakers in a
broad range of topics.
Be sure to check out ourupcoming episodes.
