S1 (00:00):
Kurt and Kate mornings. Not just on the radio.

S2 (00:03):
It's a podcast too.

S1 (00:06):
Always a highlights when we hit the pause button for
an hour and open up the. Well, the phones are already.
They're always open. Let's face it, we have an open
phone policy you can call during the the radio show anytime,
you know, and more than likely you'll make it on
the air. Uh, so we have the open phone policy,
but there are those occasional hours where we decide to

(00:30):
just talk amongst ourselves as the mornings community. We did
that recently, and the big idea was, why don't we
just draw from the wisdom that God has given each
and every one of us? He downloads wisdom into our lives,
and for us to keep it locked up in there
and not share with everybody else. I mean, that's that's

(00:53):
not good. You know, we need to be out there
and and he can connect the dots. And so it's
like this mosaic of advice for living the Christian life.

S3 (01:03):
Yeah. And we always get wonderful advice and everybody shares
it and we all say, oh yeah, it's great.

S1 (01:12):
Proverbs 1320 is our key verse. He who walks with
wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools
will suffer harm. We didn't allow any fools on the air.

S3 (01:25):
No, we didn't have to worry about that.

S1 (01:27):
We're the fools. We provide for the fool part of that.
That verse. Uh, just kidding, of course. But, you know,
if you walk with other believers, you know, as iron
sharpens iron, so one believer sharpens another. Take a listen
and enjoy. Hey, Kate. Bonnie just texted in.

S3 (01:45):
Yeah, she can't call. She's driving, but she was at
a red light, so she wanted to offer this. The
most important thing I have learned about God and my
faith is that I am never alone. Amen, Bonnie. Even
when other people are not around. God is always with me.
He is always taking care of me and loving me
no matter what. If you have that, you have everything.

(02:08):
I totally agree, totally agree.

S1 (02:11):
Wisdom alert right there. That's perfect. Thanks, Bonnie. We appreciate that.
Here's some other. Some other ones. When offering counsel to others,
always carefully distinguish between what the Bible says and what
is simply your best attempt to apply wisdom to a
particular situation. Get used to saying, this is me, not

(02:35):
the Bible. There's a reason I've made this the the first.
It says here the first thing to to keep in
mind when somebody approaches me. That's what I always say
when they ask for something. You know, that's the way I.
I frame it out. Well that's great, I love it. See,
what else do we have here? Uh, learn to appreciate
the ways in which other people are different from you,

(02:59):
not just the ways in which they are similar. Contrary
to the way you tend to think, the world would
actually not be a better place if everyone was just
a little bit more like you.

S2 (03:13):
Mhm.

S1 (03:15):
Well that's good. Let me see if I have another
one here. Uh let's see. Learn to apologize. That's a
good one. That's a really good one. Learn to apologize first.
Learn to apologize often. Learn that to apologize is a
mark of strength of character, not weakness. Let's go to

(03:38):
Jeff in Tampa. Hi, Jeff. Good morning. Welcome.

S4 (03:42):
God put on my heart that, you know, as I've,
I've grown up. I'm. I'm a grandpa. So I'm up
there in the 60s, I'll tell you my age, but
lots of grandchildren and and family members and what he's
taught me is that what's wrong in family members and
friends and coworkers is always available. But to find what's

(04:05):
right in people, it takes the kind of grace that
God gives us, where he gives us what we don't deserve.
And so if we can do that with other people,
our spouses, our loved ones, our friends, and that troubled
family member that everybody kind of points to and say,
you know, if you can find what's right and be

(04:26):
an encourager in people's lives, it's just incredible what God
not only will do in their life, but what he
will do in your life as well. So I want
to share Matthew 633. This is my family verse. My
wife and I, we bought a piece of property in
Georgia and built a house on it a few years ago,
and we got we decided to share a verse with

(04:47):
one another and our kids and pray over the property.
We came together and we both had the same verse.
Matthew 633 seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, and
all the things you need in life will be added
unto you. It's just incredible how God used that verse
over the years of our life, from being newlyweds and

(05:09):
bearing young children, to now being older, and just seeing
how that the meaning of that verse has changed throughout
the the time in our life. So that's what I
wanted to share. And I, I appreciate the opportunity.

S1 (05:21):
Oh, Jeff, are you a.

S3 (05:23):
Pastor?

S1 (05:24):
Jeff? Yes. He sounds like a pastor, doesn't he?

S3 (05:26):
You sound like many of the pastors I know. Are you?

S1 (05:29):
Yeah.

S4 (05:29):
No, I'm not a pastor. I'm just a God lover.
And and, uh, I really appreciate how he's changed my life.
And it's been through, um, through difficulties. You know, God
will take things in your life through loss and those
ripples in the pond, man, they just happen. And he's
he's changed our family's trajectory. And, uh, we've kind of

(05:51):
put down our feet and said, you know, we're not
going to let this stuff pass through to the next generation.
And here we go. We're going to we're going to
put a stop to it now. And that's because of
God's goodness in our our lives and the way he's
changed our hearts.

S1 (06:06):
Jeff, thank you so much for picking up the phone
to bless us with your thoughts. Wow, that's just nice. Yeah,
sometimes you just like to have stuff settle, you know?
You're like, mm. Let me chew on that for a minute.
Let me think about it. That's that's good. Let's go
next to Julie who is joining us from the great
state of Indiana. Hi, Julie. Good morning. Welcome.

S5 (06:28):
I'm going to share from a devotional that I won
on your show a while back. It's called Overflowing Mercies
by Craig Alan Cooper.

S1 (06:36):
Yeah. Oh, we love Craig. He's awesome. He's great.

S5 (06:39):
Yeah. So it's an awesome devotional. Um, and so, uh, today,
the one that I read is called the Very present
Help in Trouble. It was based on Psalms 56 nine
through 11. And it's, uh, the excerpt from the psalm
that it starts with is this I know that God
is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in
the Lord, whose word I praise in God I trust,

(07:01):
I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?
And then he goes on to say that God spoke
enough promises that, um, to silence 10,000 tongues, or 10,000
times 10,000 tongues. And David was in great distress. He
was trampled, oppressed, attacked, injured. Everyone meant evil for him.
But David says this. I know that God is for me. Um,

(07:25):
and I just when I read that this morning, I.
I don't feel like it doesn't apply to me at
this time, but I just thought, I feel like there's
someone that needs to hear that, but I don't know
who I'm going to share that with today.

S1 (07:36):
That's awesome. That's great.

S6 (07:38):
And then I was listening.

S5 (07:39):
And then you were. And I thought, oh, but then
I thought, oh, there'll be too many people calling. I
probably won't get a chance to call in. And then
you are like, well, come on, all the lines are open.
I'm like, okay, Lord, I need.

S7 (07:49):
To do this.

S1 (07:50):
I can see you're leading on this, okay. God. That's fantastic. Oh,
I was thinking about who I could share that with today. Oh, boy.
Isn't God good?

S7 (07:57):
Yeah.

S6 (07:58):
Yeah. So somebody needs.

S5 (07:59):
To hear that today.

S7 (08:00):
So I pray that we'll help them.

S1 (08:02):
Thanks, Julie. We appreciate that. That's absolutely fantastic. We have
some texts coming in. Let's see. Uh, Kate. Here's one.
I'm not smart enough. Not as smart as God. Therefore,
I must be led by the Spirit of God in everything.
I need the Lord. Wow. All right, uh, let's go

(08:27):
next to Connie. Hi, Connie. I'm so glad you called.

S8 (08:31):
My advice at this point in my life. I'm 78,
and I became a Christian at seven years old. So
I've been through a lot of good Christian counseling and stuff.
But right now, my advice is to listen to Christian radio. Um,
I got a radio for Christmas. So I listen to

(08:52):
your program every morning and through 1030. And it is
just listening to your program and then all the speakers Lutheran.
Jeremiah Swindoll has just really built up my Christian life.

S3 (09:10):
Amen.

S1 (09:11):
Thanks, Connie. We appreciate that. You're very, very kind. And yeah,
we agree 100%. The best piece of advice I have, one,
I have core convictions and I mention them on the
show before I kind of repeat them over and over again. Um,
speaking of convictions, never change your convictions to match your opportunities.

S3 (09:32):
Oh, yeah, that's a good one. That's good.

S1 (09:35):
Never change your. Yeah. Convictions to match your opportunities.

S9 (09:39):
Thank you for taking some time to listen to this
episode of the Curtin Mornings podcast. We always welcome a
review with your thoughts and comments, and please feel free
to subscribe and follow us as well.

S1 (09:51):
Let me see. Here's one. Remember that your children are
sinners who are beset by the fierce enemies of the world,
the flesh and the devil. Be gentle with them and
have pity for them. Don't be yet another enemy to them. Oh!
It's great. Let's go to Shea in Kissimmee. Hey, Shea.

(10:14):
What's up?

S10 (10:15):
My piece of advice is what I live my life
by is God. Choose what we go through. We choose
how we go through it.

S3 (10:26):
Amen.

S1 (10:26):
Boy. That's true.

S10 (10:27):
And when you talk about your trials and tribulations, we're
all going to have them. But we can either choose
victory or defeat. And I choose victory.

S7 (10:37):
Yes. Yeah. Amen.

S1 (10:39):
Yes. See? There's confidence.

S7 (10:41):
Yeah.

S1 (10:42):
Okay. So somebody needed to hear that today. We all did.

S7 (10:45):
Yeah.

S1 (10:45):
You know, this is truth alert. Hello. Thanks, Shea so much.
Let's go to Elaine in Lakeland. Hi, Elaine. Welcome.

S11 (10:51):
I just want to say that many things in life
are difficult, but with God, all things are possible. Eight
years ago, they found a brain tumor that covered the
entire right side of my brain. And God brought me
through a stroke during the craniotomy. Even though I was
told I would never walk again or be able to
think cognitively. God had other things in mind, and I

(11:16):
just want to say it was a difficult time. I
had to learn to walk again, but I just graduated
from UAB.

S7 (11:23):
Wow.

S11 (11:24):
And God.

S7 (11:24):
Has been so good.

S11 (11:27):
And I walk everywhere I want to go. So I
just want to say, no matter how difficult life gets
with God, all things are possible.

S7 (11:35):
With God.

S1 (11:36):
All things are.

S7 (11:36):
Possible.

S1 (11:37):
And that is biblical of course, as well. Elaine, thank
you so much.

S12 (11:41):
She's doing way better than me. She said cognitively.

S7 (11:44):
Yeah.

S1 (11:45):
Yeah, I can never say that in the 6:00 hour
when the show kicks off. Words like that. It just
doesn't work, right, Kate?

S7 (11:51):
No.

S1 (11:52):
We have to have simple words. We have to work
up to those words. I know. Let's go next to
Terry in Orlando. Hi, Terry. What do you want to
share with us?

S13 (12:02):
A couple of the things that I have grabbed on
to with my walk with Christ and loving our Heavenly
father is to pray without ceasing, like his word says.

S7 (12:15):
Yeah.

S13 (12:15):
And that's just to be. And to abide in him.
To be in a constant state of prayer, which you think, well,
does that mean, you know, we have to fold our
hands and be in a church? Well, no, he can pray.
I pray now, as I'm driving into Sarasota to see

(12:36):
two of our little grandsons. One of them has autism
and his special needs. And I pray fervently and constantly
without ceasing for our family. And even though it's not obvious,
my heart and my spirit is in a constant state
of prayer. And what one of your listeners has said

(12:58):
is knowing that we're not alone and we're not. And
I have we have five sons and three grandsons, and
some of the ways they've got tickled to even learn
about the Lord is I'll pray for a parking space,
and I'll pray for a friend of ours. Yes. That
needs healing. And you've got so many prayers. And even

(13:20):
when you don't know what to say, the Holy Spirit
within us lifts us up to all our Almighty. And
just to teach them young and let them see that
it doesn't have to be formal, that our good Lord
has a great sense of humor as well, even looking
for lost items. Not that it's bibbity bobbity boom, but

(13:40):
to not be afraid of the gospel of Jesus, be
able to say, well, you know, I prayed and the
Lord led me here. And be bold in our faith.
And it's such a wonderful relationship to have, you know,
to have the Christian life. And just like everybody knows
this roller coaster bill, but with him by our side,

(14:02):
it gives us that peace that passes all understanding. And
you all are such. You bless our hearts. You bless
mine in particular, especially with this little special needs guy
that I am seeing people each week in my business
that have a child on the spectrum. And it's it's
a prayer that I constantly lift up. So I love you.

(14:24):
I thank you for being who you are. And I
pray God's blessing on your ministry because it really touches
our hearts.

S7 (14:32):
Oh, Terry.

S1 (14:33):
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I don't even
know what to say. It's so kind of you.

S7 (14:38):
Yeah.

S1 (14:38):
Blessings. We thank you for calling in today and sharing
some of your wisdom with us. I'm going to have
perma grin. The rest of the day. I'm just telling
you guys right now. Let's go next to Bradenton. And
that would be Josephine. Hi, Josephine.

S14 (14:54):
Welcome back. When my husband and I had been married, about,
I would say about 18 months. Um, I came down
with a crush on my pastor and the Lord, uh, and, uh,
he told me to take it to the Lord and

(15:14):
dream about something else. And so I did. And the Lord, um,
helped me to see the things that were that were
wrong in my life and things that, um, I needed
to talk with my husband about in regards to our marriage. And, uh,

(15:38):
the Lord really didn't change my husband, but he changed
my heart so much over those years of talking with
him about the crush I had on our pastor, and
talking with him about the different problems that, um, he

(15:59):
brought to mind that, uh, were going on in my marriage. And, um,
so I will say that, um, the Lord kept my
husband and I together. And, uh, this October 8th, we'll
be celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary.

S7 (16:20):
Uh, Josephine, we're we're celebrating. Yay yay.

S1 (16:25):
Yay! That's fantastic. Yay! God! That's what that is. Josephine,
thank you for being such a good friend of ours.
That is going to encourage somebody today. Big time. Let's
share some texts as well, because I know they've.

S7 (16:36):
Been coming.

S3 (16:37):
In a lot of them. So, uh, Kelly said, you know,
she's also watching, she said. My advice is to mind
your mind. Romans 12 two do not conform to the
pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing
of your mind. Amen. Uh, Jeff, someone wrote in about
Jeff Metcalf, a father of a slain 17 year old

(16:59):
in Texas. He said, the world needs more kind people.
If you can't find one, be one. My name is Tessa.
I would like to encourage with some verses today. Uh,
if then you were raised with Christ, seek those things
which are above where Christ is sitting at the right
hand of God. Set your mind on the things above,

(17:20):
not on the things on earth. For you. For you died,
and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ,
who is our life, appears, then you also will appear
with him in glory. Colossians 314. Uh, and someone else
you can't out, give or out love God.

S7 (17:42):
Boy. That's good.

S3 (17:43):
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Treat others with respect, love and care just as you
would want to be treated by others.

S1 (17:51):
Don't let your. Here's another one. Don't let yourself slip
into believing that growing older will magically give you some
gift of godliness.

S7 (18:01):
Yeah.

S1 (18:02):
Who you are now, or who you are becoming now,
is a pretty good predictor of who you will someday be.
If you want to be godly, then you have to
learn to be godly now.

S7 (18:19):
Mhm.

S1 (18:19):
This is true of young men and women as they
ponder marriage and parenting. And this is true of middle
aged men and women as they ponder retirement and old age.
Speaking of old age, Josh joins us now.

S7 (18:35):
I'm just kidding.

S1 (18:36):
Uh, engineer Josh, uh, give us a piece of advice
for living the Christian life. Do you have some?

S12 (18:41):
Well, I just saw on the Facebook comments. Patricia texted
in that she had gone through heart surgery as well
as a stroke, and learned, uh, to let people know
to invest their time in the Lord. Because you only
have so much time and only what's done for Christ
will last. So just take every step that you can,

(19:03):
knowing that it's guided by the Lord and be in
the word. I mean, that's best advice. There is just, uh,
what's the best vitamin for a Christian?

S3 (19:13):
Be one, be one.

S7 (19:14):
That's right. I was going to say B12, but that's.

S1 (19:19):
Great. Let's go to Mike in Georgia. Hey, Mike. Welcome.
A piece of advice you want to share with us?

S15 (19:26):
I'm thinking in Proverbs, the, uh, where it talks about
being slow to speak and quick to listen. And, um, I'm.
I'm in a ministry, uh, have been for a long time, uh,
celebrate recovery. And one of the things that I've learned
in that ministry is listening to people that are coming
in and just the brokenness they come in with, and
to understand that some of them you had we talked

(19:48):
earlier today about, you know, people that are in cults,
as well as people coming in from different types of religions. And,
you know, if you just listen to their story a
little bit, you get a better idea then, you know,
it always gives me a better idea of, you know,
how do I speak to them? You know what? Where
are they at? You know, do they love the Lord?
Do they don't? Are they angry at them? Have they

(20:09):
know about them? Do they not want to hear about them?
You know, I find that if I can spend more
time with them, and it's hard for me because I'm
a talker, to really listen, and then I know how
to really share with them and be able to be
an encouragement to them.

S3 (20:22):
