Interpretada de manera lírica por casi la mayoría de los grupos y cantantes regionales, “El árbol” es un corrido que habla sobre la tristeza de un hombre que ha perdido a su padre y madre y ha perdido, a la par, la fortaleza y el orgullo: razón por la cual es un tema musical que se escucha de manera recurrente en las conmemoraciones del Día de las Madres y del Padre y es pieza obligada en los entierros o velorios. No se sabe quien a ciencia cierta escribió “El árbol”, pero sí existe un titular de los derechos de autor, lo que es todavía motivo de discusión entre los cantantes regionales, quienes califican como una injusticia la acreditación del tema al compositor Benjamín Sánchez Mota.
