The Carpenters fue un dúo musical estadounidense formado por los hermanos Karen Carpenter (1950-1983) y Richard Carpenter (nacido en 1946). Originarios de New Haven, Connecticut, la familia Carpenter se trasladó a Downey, California en 1963, donde los hermanos desarrollaron su interés por la música desde una edad temprana. Karen se destacó como vocalista y baterista, mientras que Richard se convirtió en el principal arreglista y pianista. Se presentaron juntos como un dúo en 1965 y formaron un grupo orientado hacia el jazz llamado Richard Carpenter Trio y que posteriormente sería Spectrum.
