(02:34):
Hello, Miss Patsy. Hello. How are you? I'm
wonderful. Good morning. How are you,
Lakita? I am doing well. I cannot
complain. I cannot complain. One of my
favorite scriptures is this is the day
that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and
be glad in it. And that is absolutely what

(02:54):
I'm doing. I am rejoicing and I am glad in
the Lord on today. And I'm excited because
I'm not one that just preaches things. I'm
one that also follows instructions. So
everybody got there something to write
with and write on. And I do too, my handy
dandy notebook today to take some notes on
some of the things that you're going to

(03:15):
share with us. And so without any further
ado, take the moment and let the listeners
know who you are and what you do. Well,
thank you. I'm so privileged to be here
and excited to share. So my name is Patsy
Sanders and I have a company called

(03:36):
embracing your essence and I actually
rebranded myself once I experienced the
element color reveal color type assistant
for myself I've been doing hair for five
plus decades. I won a scholarship to go to
beauty college out of high school because
that's all I ever wanted to do. And I love
making people look great. I've always

(03:57):
loved that. So it's kind of been my
trajectory. And about 16 or 17 years ago,
my husband and I moved to a town above San
Francisco because he had lost a job. He's
worked there in a mill. He'd worked there
for 40 plus years and the company sold.

(04:18):
And so we thought, well, our daughter and
son in law were going to having their
first baby. I want to be by my grandbaby.
So we decided to move down by them. My
biggest challenge at that time was I was
extremely overweight and miserable and so
Bud was old and I was fat and we were

(04:38):
trying to get jobs and I had never
experienced prejudice in that realm. You
can tell when people are judging you
without saying a word and if you're
overweight, absolutely. Something wrong
with you, right? I just said, God, I don't
know what to do. I've died it off. Not for

(04:59):
35 years. I don't know what to do next. So
I guess I'll just be a fat grandma. And I
met somebody who introduced me to a twelve
step program for food. And I went from a
size 2022 to a six, eight in eight months
following. And now I'm about 810. And I'm
still in this program 14 years later, 15

(05:21):
years later. But I've been able to keep it
pretty much off. I've gained up to the.
I'm a size 810 now, but I'm older and your
hormones change and whatever, but I very
much plugged into this twelve step program
because it changed my life. I became the
woman I would see in my head and I find

(05:43):
her every now and then she'd go away. And
I did not realize that I had a food
addiction. And so this twelve step program
helped me walk through that and have
freedom on the other side. So I am so
grateful to just be myself, just to be who
I am and who I always wanted to be. But I

(06:03):
didn't know it was a journey God was going
to take me on. And I'm grateful. I'm
grateful that I found that. So that was
the start of my own little transformation,
getting there. And the other thing that
was fascinating is now I now was able to
find friends. Friends that you could tell
them how fat you are and how old you are
and they don't care. As I finally found a

(06:28):
place to work, I then started getting
clients from even just our new friendships
and stuff. So one of those women was a
speaker trainer, and her and her husband
became my clients. And she said, patsy,
I'm having a training. Would you come and
do the hair? My stylist does the image
stylist, embracing your element. And I

(06:49):
said, sure, I'd be happy to do that. And
I'd had my colors done years ago in the
early eighty s. I don't know if you've
ever had that done, but I haven't. I
haven't, actually. So I was classified as
a winter, and back then it went by what
your hair color was, your eye color, and
your skin tone. So that kind of puts you

(07:09):
in a category. And I was a winter. I even
got trained to do that at work for quite a
while. And it kind of came and went. So
I'd been dressing over 20 years in those
colors. And so I had purple highlights on
my hair and I wore black. Being a
hairdresser, most time we would just wear

(07:30):
black. And so black and jewel tones, those
are my colors. And I thought, oh, this
will be fun. So I go, and the stylist
would say, so, patsy, each one of the four
elements, air, fire, water, and earth,
they each have a shape. And so I'm going
to have you reshape their hair a little
bit to go alignment with their color type.
And I said, great. So she said, give them

(07:51):
a bang. I do that here, give them an angle
cut, do some layers. And so whatever she
asked me to do, I do. And she goes, oh,
this is great. Then my girlfriend says,
hey, patsy, Barb's so excited and so
grateful you helped her today. She offered
a color type, you and the elements. I
said, oh, no, I'm good. I know how to look
good. I know how to dress nice. And I did

(08:12):
know how to dress nice. And she said,
yeah, but, patsy, you've been complaining
to me a lot lately that things aren't
going so well in your business. Wonder if
what you're wearing is stopping people
from working with you. Well, I knew I
could be open to possibilities and a
little vulnerable, or I could keep
struggling. So to make her happy, I just

(08:34):
said, okay, I'll get color type in the
elements, but I don't want to be that
fire. Well, guess what? I was a fire. And
I was not a happy camper. So then the
stylist went on to explain this. She goes,
patsy, in the 80s, when they first started
doing the seasonal color typing, it was

(08:54):
great. It helped us to know what season to
get to buy our clothes in and what colors
we should wear, and we've all looked nice.
But today, people know more of who they
are. They want to be authentically
themselves. They want to their own unique
personality and styles and colors. And she

(09:16):
said, the element color typing system is
really based on your natural gifts, your
natural character traits, and your
physical features. And when I draped you
in the right colors, your eyes lit up and
looked like. It's like seeing the window
to your soul. If you could just see how
beautiful you look. And I started crying.

(09:37):
I thought, oh, my God, what is the matter
with me? Wow. And she said, patsy, let's
do this. I want you to understand that
every one of the four elements, and we
have all those in us that we utilize, but
everybody has a core element which fire,
the characteristic of a fire is a mover

(09:59):
and shaker. They get stuff done. And when
she said that, I knew that's who I was,
right? That's how I. And so she said,
let's just go shopping in a consignment
store, buy a few new tops, and if people
don't treat you differently, you don't
have to do this. Fine, I'll do that. And
so bought a few tops. And when I started

(10:21):
wearing them to the salon, my clients
started saying, wow, patsy, you look
pretty today. Wow, Patsy, you look really
nice today. Over and over and over. Then
about a week later, the salon owner said
to me, patsy, what are you doing different
lately? You just look amazing. Now,
listen, I still had purple highlights in
my hair, and I had dark, dark hair. And I

(10:42):
said, I changed my tops. She goes, well,
whatever you're doing, it looks really
great. I was fascinated, and I realized
that that was a service I thought would be
great to add to my hairstyling business.
Starting over in a new town. There was
tons of salons on every corner. And

(11:02):
somebody asked me, well, what sets you
apart as a hairdresser? And I thought, oh,
I don't know. One hairdresser that is
doing color typing and adding that to give
a total makeover. So I decided to get
trained by the image stylist. And during
my training, she got very ill. I end up
managing her business for two years. And
then six years ago, she sold me the

(11:23):
business. Now, I think has a sense of
humor I didn't want to be. Now I own the
darn business. What happened to me was
such a dramatic change in my business and
how people treated me. I thought, how does
this work? This is fascinating. So as I'm
starting to build my own little wardrobe,
my friend that's a speaker trainer said,

(11:45):
patsy, would you come help me out at an
event and work the back table and greet
people and they come in and do that. I
said, sure, I'd love to do that. And so I
found this beautiful peach colored Alphony
top. And I'll show you here online what it
looks like. It's very light, right? It's
kind of in here, right here. And I found a

(12:07):
duster to match it. I thought, well, that
goes nice together. And I thought, okay,
I'm going to get my style book out and
say, well, what energy does that? I didn't
quite understand the energy and the
harmonics of color, right? So I said,
okay, I'll read this. So it's in the flesh
tone strip in my color palette, and it
says these closest to your natural skin
tone and allow other access to your heart

(12:29):
and with purity conveying openness, deep
connection, intimacy, trust, comfort and
safety. Well, I thought I wanted people
comfortable and safe approaching me. I'll
just try this out. So I'm setting up the
table. There's another image stylist
that's there, and we were working together
as a team that weekend. She walked into

(12:50):
the room that morning and said, patsy, you
look luscious today. I said, I do, yeah. I
said, thank you. I wore the same outfits
three weeks later to a networking event.
And I had a lady come up to me that I
didn't know very well. She said, pastor,
you look radiant tonight. I said, thank
you. Neither time had I said a word I

(13:14):
started to understand. Color has energy.
To me, it's magical. Like color has
influence without us even realizing. It's
sort of a subconscious thing. We don't
anything without considering the color
color. Buying a car, painting a wall,
buying furniture, bed spread. Like, if you
think about how much color influences your

(13:34):
life, it would be fascinating for you to
think, oh, that's true. And then what
colors are you most drawn to? Right? So I
was floored by that and I doubled my
business. Two years. And the part that was
most amazing is now people in the network
group and in the community now, they
started wanting to work with me and not

(13:56):
before. So then as I studied and grew in
my business, I realized I was hiding in
plain sight, wearing black, energetic,
hard for people to connect with me, and I
became way more comfortable in my own skin
and just appreciating who I was as a
person. And I think a lot of us don't. And

(14:17):
as I started building my beautiful
wardrobe, everything I wore in my closet
mixed and matched, and I didn't have to
have as much stuff. So now my closet
became an investment in who I'm being in
my business. And I think a lot of times we
don't realize that what you wear really
matters. And what colors you wear are

(14:38):
actually a drawing card for people to
connect with you easier. Appearances
matter. It's really the bridge of
connection. Right. What you wear really
gives another people an insight about who
you are, who you're being in the world.
Right. I'm sitting here just thinking

(15:00):
about so many different things in terms of
color. That is a whole education that I
had not even thought about. And I would
probably. This is what I'm going to do.
I'm going to ask the listeners. Listen,
guys, as you're listening to this episode,
give us some feedback. Let us know what
you think about the things that Patsy has

(15:21):
shared with us so far about color typing
and how color influences us subconsciously
in every aspect of our lives, whether
we're business owners or if you are an
employee or a work from home mom, it
doesn't matter like the colors that wear,
because what I'm picking up from what you

(15:42):
just said is what we wear should get us,
or should be. We should think about what
we're wearing when we want to get specific
results. Yes. Right. In your bedroom.
You're giving a message to the world by

(16:03):
what you're wearing. And if you understand
what color is saying without you saying a
word, like hiding a plain sight. The
fashion industry has us totally convinced
that you only look thin and in black, and
everything goes with that. Well, there's
only one of the elements where it really
is a power color for that person. And the
rest of us are kind of just hanging out,

(16:25):
hiding. And I don't think we even have a
consciousness of that. We don't even know.
I love how you said hiding in plain sight,
because that can be applied to so many
different people, so many different people
where we've all been taught to dress to
impress. Okay, got it. I can do that. But

(16:47):
even. It doesn't matter if I spend $5,000
on the outfit, if I'm understanding what
you're saying, if it's the wrong outfit
for the occasion, and I'm not just talking
about the type of clothes, but if the
color patterns that we pick for that
outfit aren't the right color patterns, it
doesn't matter about the quality of the

(17:08):
material used to make the dress or the
suit. I'm still not going to get the
results that I'm looking for. Because the
color isn't personifying that or
amplifying that to my intended audience.
Right. Well, I have to tell you that when

(17:28):
you know what to shop for and you know
what is your best color palette, it makes
it easy for you to feel confident. I have,
65% of my clients hate to shop. They don't
know where to go. They're not happy with
their body size, so they hate even giving
it, going out there and doing that. But
you have to get dressed every day. You

(17:49):
have to come out of the bedroom. And if
you're building a business, you have to be
online or be out in public, or if you're a
speaker and being on stage, you want to be
so attractive that people cannot wait to
hear what you have to say, whether you're
on Zoom or live at an event. So the
confidence is what's lacking, I think, for
especially a lot of us women today,

(18:10):
everybody knows how to dress nice. We all
know how to look good. But do you look
amazing? Do you turn heads when you walk
into the room? That's the difference. I
get compliments. It's been eight years,
and I still get compliments all the time,
which blows my mind. So let me ask your
listeners this. Think about this,

(18:30):
listeners. What percentage of your closet,
of your wardrobe do you actually wear on a
regular basis? That's a good question.
Now, I'm thinking, I'm not going to say it
out loud, and I'm glad my husband isn't
here for this recording. The national

(18:50):
average is 20%. There might be 15 20% or
special occasions or a certain time of the
year or whatever, but we do have about 50%
to 60% that we don't wear. We buy stuff.
We wear it one time or two times. And
subconsciously, if you don't get a
compliment and it's not really comfortable
on you, you don't feel amazing in it. It
just goes in the back of your closet. So a

(19:13):
lot of people have closet overwhelm. You
don't even want to address it because it's
just like you don't even know where to
start. And that's what I love about the
work I do. We take all the guesswork out.
Once we establish what your main core
element is of air, fire, water, earth,
then you get a color palette. This is
mine. This is all the fire colors, right.

(19:35):
And on the back, it has what each strip is
for. So it has patterns and foundation and
metals and dynamic and tranquils. Like,
every one of those strips has a purpose.
Right. You walk into your closet and you
think, okay, I'm speaking today. I'm going
to wear a foundation because that's my
expert colors and I'm going to wear solid.

(19:57):
So people are looking at me, not in some
bold color or pattern that's distracting
to the eye because we do get distracted
easy. It's hard to keep people's
attention. It is. And this is really
powerful here. People make an assessment
today about you. In the first three to 5
seconds, they see you and 50% is on what

(20:18):
you're wearing, according to Harvard
Business School. Wow, we must dress
properly all the time. Yes. You want to
walk, you want to get in your closet and
think, I'm just hanging out in the house
today, but I'm kind of off. I think I'm
going to wear a tranquil. Because when you
wear a tranquil, you feel calm and
tranquil and people around you feel the

(20:39):
same energy. So they can approach you
without you being cranky. Right. Or if you
just want to be whatever you want to be
that day and you're going to go out and
about, you want to wear something you feel
great in. Greedy. That's the energy you
bring to the day. And so you get to choose
the energy you want to bring to your life

(21:00):
that day and what you're doing and the
people around you. And business is all
about connection and building, that know
like and trust factor. And when you look
amazing all the time, then people know
that they can trust you to make them look
amazing, look amazing. You're going to
work with them. So this works. I've done

(21:22):
it for many. So listen, Ms. Patsy, because
I got a couple of questions, but before I
ask you those questions, please let the
listeners know how they can reach out and
connect with you to find out what their
color type is. Okay, so let's just have a
chat, right? So if you go to my website,

(21:46):
embracingyouressence.com, you'll have a
link here and click on let's chat. Let's
have a session together. Let's do a Zoom
call. Let's see where you're at in your
life and what are your challenges and how
can I help you. Then we'll know where to
start. And I have to promise you that
everybody that I've worked with, even if
it's a subtle change, it's dramatic for

(22:08):
them. It should be fun being you. And I
take the guesswork out and I work with you
personally, one on one, depending on how
we work, whatever package you want to use.
But it will be transformative. My friends,
my clients, now call me the
transformational specialist, because it's

(22:31):
more about who you are inside. So I found
this verse, and I'm going to share this
with you because I love this. In song of
Solomon 47, this is what God says about
us. You are beautiful beyond compare.
Absolutely flawless. That's how we were

(22:52):
born, and that's how he created us. But
that's not how we feel today about
ourselves, especially women. We're
multitasking. We're doing 49 things, and
we don't know how to deal with our
emotions. And so a lot of times, we eat
over and run around. We don't take care of
ourselves. We don't eat three meals a day.
We just let life take over. And when you
get centered on taking care of you and get

(23:15):
dressed in the morning and feeling great
about yourself, you have all the energy
you need to be able to give away whatever
you have to give away that day. There's a
huge shift in allowing yourself to be
beautiful every single day, whether it's
casual or in business or you're going out
with a bunch of girlfriends. It should be

(23:36):
fun. It should be fun. I totally agree.
Now, you gave us some information about
the fire type. How many more types are
there, and what do they mean? Okay, so
I'll just show you some. When I bought
this business, I realized it needed to be
up leveled. So I created these four

(23:58):
different style guidebooks that go with
each one of the elements. And it tells you
about all your energetic words. There's a
whole page of energetic words, and then
there tells you how to use each of the
strips and what makeup you should wear and
what jewelry you should wear and the shape
of your glasses and lots and lots of
information in there. And so then

(24:18):
recently, I created this with a friend.
That is really amazing. These are all four
of the element types, and they're called
bounce and blend. Little half fans. And so
when I color type you, we send a kit. I
sent you a style kit. We do it over Zoom,
and these will be included, and you'll be
able to start before you ever get your

(24:38):
fabric fan in person. So I'll just share
what each little color palette is. And
really what's core about this is the
character trait. Finding your core element
helps us to find out what your core
character trait is, where you shine in the
world. So here's the first one. This is
air. So these are all the bright, warm,

(25:02):
luscious colors of spring, right? And so
they bring, their energy is like bubbly,
light, crisp, quick, buoyant, spontaneous.
That kind of energy. Their natural
character trait is they're the visionary.
So many ideas, they can't even hardly keep
their heads together. They may have lots
of things going on, and they're kind of
sunshine when they walk into the room.

(25:23):
Like, basically, I'm just giving you
generalized. Right. Then the next one is
earth. And these are all the cool tones of
wintertime. They're the pure tones of
black, red, white, those type of colors.
And the energetic words are, like, still
serene, striking, elegant, balanced,

(25:45):
reflective. Those are the words. And the
gift of the earth is, they're the editor.
They can come into a situation, or when
they come into a room, they just take it
all in, and they can see what needs to be
improved or changed. A lot of great
coaches are earth because they can see the
beginning and the end and figure out how

(26:05):
to put it together. Then there's me, fire,
all the fall colors. And our energetic
words are fast, dynamic, staccato,
focused, burnished, like we're moving
shakers. We get stuff done right. So
that's what's really fun about that, is
when you know that you're that kind of
energy, right. Sometimes you have to tone

(26:28):
it down. Like, you have to wait for all
the instructions instead of running off.
And then the last one is water. And these
are all the beautiful, soft, muted, cool
colors of water, which is summertime. And
the words of the water, relax, flowing,
muted, calming, subdued, romantic. And

(26:49):
their gift of character trait is they are
awesome at process, order, and detail.
What I discovered when I started really
working in this business is we have all
four character traits in us, right? When I
started my business and I started adding
the color typing into my salon business,
and I even rebranded myself because I

(27:11):
realized embracing your essence is
addressing all of you, who you are from
the inside, outside, head to toe. Right.
And so I had all these ideas. My character
trait of the air was, like, all over the
place. Then I started realizing, I need to
write stuff down. I need to have a
website. I need to have content. Oh, my

(27:33):
God. I need to find a water va. I can't do
all this by myself. The character trait of
the water that I embody is I hand make
every single one of those fabric fans for
my. Wow. So, once I mail you your
individual color palette, right now, we
have a digital copy of the style book with

(27:56):
more information in it, and I send it to
you right away. And then when I'd get a
talk together and be in a fire, I had to
go out and give it. I had to go practice.
I had to try it on somebody. Right. And
then one time, I did this one event that I
was working on, and it didn't go so well,
and I wasn't really sure why. So I had to
take a step back and use my editor Earth

(28:21):
character trait to kind of analyze. Where
could that have been better? Where did I
miss out? What did I misstep in here? So I
realized we personally use all those
things in our lives. Yes. My core is a
fire. I am definitely a mover and shaker,
and it's creating balance in my life

(28:43):
that's helped me realize I can just be
myself. I hope you like me, but if you
don't, this is as good as it gets. And I'm
good. Because there are components of
every element in each person. When you
find out what your type is, I guess what

(29:06):
I'm saying is, do we shop for colors that
are specifically just in that? Because
you're fire. You only shop for fire.
You're only fire. You don't mix and match
your hair changes. I have a couple of
people that we had to drastically change
their hair color. Oh, wow. Had magenta
colored hair. Right. And I thought she was

(29:29):
a fire. I never guess because I've been
wrong too many times. And when we color
drape you, that's when I see your eyes
light up, and I find your essence shows
up. But we color typed her, and she was a
water, and her hair should have been her
soft, golden blonde with a few highlights,
and she had magenta hair. And when she

(29:50):
walked into room, what you saw was her
magenta hair. Yeah. So when I explained to
her, here's your color palette, and here's
your energy, and these are your words, I
said, you are so beautiful. I said, but
your magenta hair overtakes you. Well, she
was trying to discover her brand and how
to stand out, and her testimony is on my

(30:13):
website. Anyway, it took her six months
until she was ready to give it a shot. So
she let her hair color fly, faded out, and
went on a big trip in the sun, and she
came back, and I worked with her, helped
her figure out styles. I sent her pictures
from Pinterest, the best looks for her
hair and her hair texture and what she

(30:34):
could do with the different styles. She
had a fabulous hairdresser, and she
changed it. And slowly but surely,
everybody started telling her for the
first time how beautiful she looked. Wow.
And she realized, she said, I thought that
that was part of my brand, but what it did
was stop people from connecting with me.
And so now she charges five times what she

(30:55):
did before, and she told me she makes 20%
more just because she stepped in and
embraced all of her essence. Not part of
it. I know I'm a water, but I can wear
black, right? No, because that is not in
your color palette, and energetically, it
stops people from connecting. It's a crazy

(31:15):
idea, I know, but I have to tell you, all
the clients that I've worked with, it's
been such a dramatic change for them in
the sense that they feel more like their
authentic self. We don't have to worry
about impressing somebody else and hoping
they like us. If we know we look and dress
in a way that represents who we are
authentically and our brand and our

(31:37):
business, it doesn't matter what they
think. It doesn't matter. You already know
you're being your absolute best, right?
It's amazing. For you, the thing that
sparked your transformation was simply
changing a blouse, simply wearing a

(32:01):
different color blouse. And have you ever
been told you look luscious or radiant?
That was such a shock, right? It was a
shock. Right? But don't. And I tell
people, don't be surprised if you start
getting a lot of compliments. People are
going to be seeing you. Now, here's the
story. I think it's really fun to share is
when I first started doing this, and this

(32:22):
is before, way before COVID I had a lady
from my network group call and said, hey,
patsy, I'm ready to work with you. I'm
starting to travel and speak, and I don't
know what to wear, and I want to make
traveling simple. I said, okay. So we
color typed her. She was a water softer.
These beautiful tones. She's very
beautiful. And so one of the sessions we

(32:42):
do after we color type you is we work on
your closet. So we went through her closet
using her color palette and sorting
everything through and everything that
didn't work for her. She said, let's just
lay it on the bed. So we did. And when we
got done with everything, we had put
together a few outfits for her travel, but
then we made a list of the things that she
needed to add and what was missing. Right.

(33:03):
So we were going to work on that together.
And so we're looking at her pile onto her
bed a lot with brand new tags on it. I
said, how do you feel, Ali, about all
those clothes in your bed? How much do you
think is laying there? How much money do
you think you spent? That had to be heavy
in her heart. Three k. I said, how does

(33:25):
that make you feel? She said, totally
frustrated. I go shopping at Macy's or
Nordstrom, and I buy what I think the
fashion tells me that I should wear. And I
wear this and I get it home and I don't
wear it. She goes, I just felt
overwhelmed. And I said, okay, now. And I
told her about our statistic. I said, only
20% people only wear it anyway. Right.

(33:46):
Because you don't know what you don't
know. Now we have a shopping list. Now we
have some outfits that you can start with.
Right. And how does that make you feel? No
one. I'm going to help you. She said, I
feel so relieved. Well, it didn't take
long for her to take off with putting
things together and adding those things
that she needed. And I sent her ideas, I

(34:07):
sent her links, and now she travels all
over. Right. It's just so much fun to help
people feel grounded and knowledgeable
about who they are. Naturally are. Yes.
Listen, guys, I hope you guys have been
taking some, as my husband would say, some
copious notes. I hope you've been taking

(34:28):
some copious notes today because Miss
Patsy has been laying down gems. You need
to have all of these tools in your
toolbox. This conversation should change
the way that you think about color and the
power of color, the meaning of color. What

(34:51):
do I want my message to be now, and what
do I need to do to ensure that that
message is being well received from your
website to the outfits that you wear, the
colors in your office, in your studio,
wherever color is in your everyday life,

(35:12):
and let's just be honest, it's everywhere.
The colors that you're using, they matter,
and they should amplify the message that
you want your intended target audience to
receive. So in some of these cases, like
your client, the changing of the color
gave her, did you say five times an

(35:32):
increase in price? She was able to raise
her prices five times because now she was
speaking on bigger stages because she
looked amazing. Yes. Noticing that. So
that was pretty crazy good. Let me just
give you a few tips. Yes. These are some
of the colors behind here. So the black

(35:54):
represents earth. And when I put that on,
if we can do a little show and tell. Let's
see if I can get this up here. So when I
wear the black, this is not laying. Right.
Just a minute. When I wear the black, can
you see where I kind of have a floating
head? This is not wanting to leave. Right.

(36:18):
So you see the black and then you see my
head kind of like there's a disconnect.
Right? Yes. Black is earth. And then
here's this beautiful dusty rose pink.
Let's see about that. How's that color
look on me? And I've told people, ask
them, and they said, kind of look washed
down, like it kind of doesn't do anything

(36:40):
right. And then, well, what about this
beautiful coral? Oh, my gosh. This is such
a fun color, right? It is. So do you see
the color or me? First? The color? Yeah.
Okay. And then here's the other color. And

(37:02):
this is olive green. Right. Now, do you
see me? Am I what I'm wearing? I'm more
focused on the color. Well, this is my
color, and it makes my skin look clear,
and it makes my eyes stand out. I think
the lighting is not real great with this

(37:22):
stream light. But the highlights in your
hair, I see the color, but the highlights
in your hair, it's like, amplified. And I
noticed the color of your earrings. Now, I
know you had them on the whole time, but I
noticed your earrings. I noticed your hair
more, and I noticed the color. It's a

(37:44):
color I like. Well, there you go. That's
fire. They wear olive greens, those muted,
warm tones. So I just want to tell your
listeners, here's a few great colors that
everybody wears, but I call them the
universal colors. The color I have on now
is teal. And everybody looks great in
teal, right. And then eggplant or wine

(38:07):
colored is a power color, and it's great
when it's solid. Like, if you're speaking
whatever, eggplant is sort of taking over
black, because if you don't wear black,
then what power color can you have? An
eggplant is one of those colors. It's a
purple wine color. And then the other
color is this hunter green that's out at

(38:28):
Christmas time. A green dress, a green
blouse, a green sweater. That's another
power color, and it's universal. Everybody
looks good in it. So that helps you, like,
especially if you're zoom calling. Yes.
The other tip is wear solid colors, don't
wear patterns. I found that when you wear

(38:48):
black, it's a disconnect, right? So you
don't want to do that. And too bold of
patterns. People are looking at your
shirt, and it's a distraction. And then
white, when you wear solid white, the
light makes you look bigger because
bright, it brings it out. So you don't
want that either. So you're better off to
wear a medium tone. Whatever you have

(39:09):
that's solid medium tone, that's a good
place to start. Just go shop your own
closet and see what you can find. You just
really blessed my new set design. I need
you to know that right now before I
forget. This. Wear your eye color. When
you wear your eye color, it makes you more

(39:29):
approachable, really. It takes time to
transform your wardrobe. You're not going
to go out and throw all your clothes away
and start over. You're going to start
adding things in. And I suggest you just
start adding, if you're a guy, a shirt or
a woman, a top. Right. So just start there
and adding one by one and then waiting to
see how. Know when you start wording

(39:52):
colors, people notice you. You get
compliments all the time. I have a gal
that I just signed up that she's amazing.
She is a pretty high up in Mary Kay, and
we're working together and I'm adding her
products to my style kits because I think
you guys need to know what colors to wear.
Yeah. And she ended up getting colors. I
became my client and she ended up being a

(40:14):
fire. Now, she's blonde, right. And she is
sassy and she's fun and she has a high end
wardrobe. But the reason she hired me is
she has 500 clothes in her closet and
she's moving to Hawaii this next year and
she wanted to pare down her closet and she
knew that she had everything. Well, her
really good friend saw her about a few

(40:36):
months later and she goes, what are you
doing lately, you amazing? I'm working
with Pat's dad and my colors done. When
your good friends notice you, they tell
you yay or nay, right? Yes. It's like,
this is not working. This is not working,
sis. This is amazing. I know. I was so

(40:58):
blessed. It was so fun. And then there's
the other one. Here's a guy that I work
with. He was so resistant. He was a fire.
Fires are sassy. We don't want to do
stuff. Anyway, he was a fire. And he
didn't understand why he should wear those
certain colors. So he said to me, he said,
okay, patsy, I get it. It's not whether I
like the color or not, it's whether the
color likes me. I like that. I like that.

(41:21):
Yeah. And so he said, it's such a subtle
change. But now I understand because he
got compliments all the time. He could see
it in his pictures, how you saw him and
his shirt. Not his shirt or his floating
head. I mean, it sounds crazy, but when
you look in the mirror, look at yourself.

(41:43):
Do you see you and then your outfit, or do
you see your outfit? Yeah. It's an
awareness. And when you know how to dress
with intention it makes it fun. It
shouldn't be hard. I have this saying. I
made up. Fashion is a look. It's not a
size, not an age, not a name brand, and
not a price tag. It's who you being and

(42:06):
what you're wearing. Approachable,
confident, attractive, and feeling
beautiful as your authentic self. Wow. I
love it. Now give us that definition one
more time, because I really need that to
resonate with the listener. Okay. Fashion
is a look. It's not a size, not an age,

(42:26):
not a name brand, and not a price tag.
It's who you're being and what you're
wearing. Approachable, confident,
attractive. When you're being attractive,
people are attracted to you and feeling
beautiful as your authentic self. Wow,
that's amazing. That is amazing. Ms.
Pesie, I could talk to you all day because

(42:48):
this sparks questions. I'm telling you
that what you said about white just
totally changed my set design. I'm in the
process of having a new set design for my
podcast, and my go to was going to be a
completely white backdrop and then bring
in different furniture pieces for that.

(43:09):
Because I'm like, yeah, the white will
work because it doesn't matter what I
bring in. It'll be okay. And then you said
what you said, and I'm thinking, well, let
me go back to the drawing board on that.
You know what? This teal is a great
backdrop because it's not black, but
everything shows up in it, right? Shows up
in it. Okay. Consider that it is

(43:29):
definitely color typed. Let me tell you
this other story. You're going to love
this. So when I bought the business, which
I didn't really want to buy, within a very
short period, I had three people who
wanted to get trained to be image stylists
and do the work I'm doing. I didn't know
how to train them. I just barely got
trained myself. But then I thought, okay,
so I went into the mode, like, what would

(43:50):
I want if I was being trained? And I had
to go on other things and made it was
harder, so I simplified it. And this one
lady that I signed up, she's beautiful,
african american, and she goes, well, you
know what? Your flesh tones don't match my
people. And I said, okay, well, then let's
make some. So now I have specific color

(44:12):
flesh tones for all different
nationalities. Awesome. African american.
You guys have anywhere from three to seven
different face. Yes, we do. Right? And so
I can't go just by your skin tone, right?
I can't just do that. That's why getting
to know you doing a style assessment,

(44:34):
finding out who you are, what your gifts
are, that's all in alignment with. Then it
resonates with you then from the inside
out. So what a gift that was to be able
to. Now I can work with everybody. It's
just so fun, right? Covid? Such a blessing
in my life to have clients all over the
world work with people all over. Right?

(44:56):
It's like, wow, I feel like God has given
me a call in my life. I am 73. This is not
what I thought I'd be doing. But I don't
want to do anything else. And you are
transforming people's lives. I do. And I
want help you. I want to help these other
people take the guesswork out of being
beautiful. It should not be hard. Wow.

(45:19):
This is true. This is true. Let's amplify
that message. Let's amplify that message
of embracing your essence like that.
Definitely. That goes well together. It's
what you do. You're helping people to
embrace their own essence, embrace their
authentic self, and learning that color,

(45:42):
it really matters. Like we would not
believe. Listen, Ms. Patsy, we're going to
have to have you back on the podcast real
soon. Yes. We're going to have background.
Yes. Because I'm back to the drawing
board, though. Like, I'm going to rethink
what I was thinking and the new background

(46:03):
is going to be amazing and it will express
what I wanted to express and I won't get
lost in it. Yeah. There you go. Thank you
so much for that piece of wisdom. Listen,
guys, this has been another amazing
episode of Laquita's Toolbox. I hope you
guys have been blessed as much as I have
been blessed by the wisdom that Ms. Patsy

(46:26):
is sharing on today's broadcast. But Ms.
Patsy, before we close out, is there any
last thing that you'd like to leave with
the audience or any promotions or offers
or anything that you have available right
now? Well, I would love to have a
conversation with you. And if you're
building your business, I don't know if I
gave you a gift or not, but I would love

(46:48):
to just find out where you're at and give
you a gift that would really work for you.
I have a pdf on how to own the stage. So
if you're online and you're doing stage
work or whatever, it gives you a lot of
clues about how to improve that. And I
shared a lot today with you, but I'm happy
if show up and have a conversation with me
and I'll send it to you so you have that

(47:09):
in your toolbox. Having a toolbox is
important, but having your colors done,
you can use it to absolutely get your
colors for your marketing. Right? And the
other thing that's really important is,
like, when you get your headshot and you
go to the photographer, you pick out three
or four outfits and you know exactly how

(47:29):
good you're going to look like. You don't
have to take half your wardrobe to figure
out what's your best. And it is such a
gift to your photographer. I work with
photographers a lot, and they love having
me work with their clients first, and then
they spend more time taking fabulous
pictures than picking out outfits. So all
of those pieces, that's why I loved your
show. It's like, this is a foundation

(47:51):
piece of your business should be in your
toolbox, right? Because then you can
invest your money where you need to and
you can always look good because people
join you. You are your brand. Yes, we are
definitely our brand. Our personal brands
matter. When we show up, it doesn't matter

(48:13):
about what you're selling, what your next
trinket or service is. The first thing
that will be evaluated is you. And if you
are not amplifying or personifying, I'll
say personifying what you are talking
about or what you're selling, it doesn't

(48:35):
matter. My grandmother used to tell me
when I was younger, if your head looks
good and your feet look good, you'll be
all right, because those are the things
that people are going to pay attention to
you to the most. So you have to make sure
that those things are in order. And the
older I get, the more I realize that lady
knew what she was talking about. She

(48:58):
really, truly did. Yes. Wisdom. And now
you've unleashed all of this wisdom
concerning color and how it works. Like,
I'm changing my background and there's a
lot of other changes that I now know I
need to make in order to keep drawing my

(49:22):
intended audience. So, Ms. Patsy, you have
blessed me today. Thank you. You blessed
me, too. Yes, you have blessed me today
more than you know. And we definitely will
get you scheduled to come back in and so
we can have some more amazing
conversations about color and the impact
that it has on our personal brand, because

(49:43):
there are so many entrepreneurs, whether
they're struggling or whether they're
thriving, but the goal is always to get to
that next level. And based on our
conversation today, this is something that
should be incorporated in those plans to
help you get to your intended target
audience. Right? Awesome. Thank you again
