On peut être insolent, avoir eu une scolarité rebelle et devenir fondateur d’une école de design comme CY Ecole de design, aujourd’hui au top des classements en France après seulement 4 ans d’existence. Dominique Sciamma donne l’impression à la fois d’une grande assurance, d’une grande liberté et d’une fougue certaine...
Une enfance en banlieue parisienne, un père professeur de mathématiques puis engagé dans la promotion du logement social expliquent sûrement ses deux moteurs depuis toujours : « la volonté de changer le monde » et une passion pour les maths et l’informatique, une grille de lecture du monde, une parmi d’autres, dit-il.
« Je suis quelqu’un qui se fait virer de partout. Le déclic pour moi a été la découverte des mathématiques. J’aime dire non. J’ai découvert un langage. Je voulais être maître du monde. Les maths représentent un moyen de découvrir les structures du monde. Et l’informatique, c’est de la mathématique en action. Donc je dirais : les maths, c’est lire, l’informatique, c’est agir. L’important, c’est de savoir quel outil on se donne pour découvrir le monde ».
Son parcours n’était pas tracé. Après des études en mathématiques, il devient professeur en lycée professionnel, se fait virer. Il reprend des études d’informatique puis entre chez Bull, où il reste pendant 12 ans cette fois. Il en garde la conviction que : « Les grandes entreprises ne sont pas toujours au courant qu’elles peuvent être des acteurs du changement. L’entreprise peut être un lieu de transformation ». Mais aussi que l’informatique, c’est de la politique, et que le numérique allait changer le monde.
Il fait aussi un passage dans la presse comme directeur des éditions électroniques de La Tribune. Ces expériences le conduisent ensuite à l’école STRATE, où il devient responsable multimédia en 1998, au moment de l’explosion d’internet, avant d’être nommé directeur général en septembre 2013.
On ne s’attardera pas sur la fin de son mandat à STRATE, mais il rebondit très vite et très fort en fondant CY École de Design au sein de l’université de Cergy-Pontoise. On comprend que Dominique Sciamma a créé l’école de ses rêves : une école pluridisciplinaire à l’image de ce qu’il conçoit comme le « profil complet » du designer. Il en parle avec passion et énumère :
« CY a un contenu pédagogique qu’on ne trouve nulle part ailleurs : culture générale, histoire des idées politiques, culture du soin, culture du vivant, formation au dessin, volumes, perspectives, peinture, couleur, graphisme, cartographie, mais aussi philosophie, sciences humaines, design sensoriel, anthropologie... ».
Dominique Sciamma a une définition très large du design qui, selon lui, n’appartient pas qu’aux designers : « ils en sont les porteurs éloquents, les garants, mais pas les propriétaires. Pour moi, le design, c’est contribuer à créer les conditions d’une expérience de vie réussie pour tous et chacun. C’est un travail d’équipe ».
Il porte aussi la conviction que les écoles de design prendront la place qu’occupent aujourd’hui les écoles de management et d’ingénieurs, car la question « Pourquoi ? » remplacera les questions « Combien ? » et « Comment ? ».

The Burden
The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct?
