(00:25):
you lead and live, you're in theright place.
Remember to subscribe to thispodcast so you never miss an
episode.
Let's dive in.
Welcome, welcome, welcome.
Welcome to another Monday Lifewith Maureen.
Every Monday, I go live in theMindsight Women's Network and I
(00:48):
teach for a few minutes and thenwe switch off the cameras and
we go deep, we start talking, wecoach and we really apply the
learning to our lives, basically.
So the Mindsight Women'sNetwork is really the platform
where this is coming from.
So, if you're meeting me forthe first time, my name is
(01:09):
Maureen Chiana.
I'm the CEO of the MindsightAcademy and founder of Mindsight
Women's Network.
Mindsight Women's Network, likeI said, is where I do this
teaching every Monday, andsomeone has coined it Monday
mornings with Maureen.
So I'm going to just get intothe teaching and then I'll talk
(01:31):
about the network later.
So today I want us to look at atopic and I've actually pulled
this from my book which isRewire your Brain with
Neuroscience and Scripture EveryDay.
And this is a devotional, it'sa 366 daily guide.
(01:52):
You know there's everything inthis book.
It's your personal coach andI've pulled the teaching today
from day 65 and 66.
So, if you see me looking down, that's what I'm looking at.
So, from day 65 and day 66, andI've titled it the Power of
Expectations and MindsetRewiring your Brain for Success.
(02:14):
So I'm going to start with thequote that I used on day 65,
which is the only limit to thepossibilities in your life
tomorrow are the bots that youuse today.
So I'll read that again theonly limits to the possibilities
in your life tomorrow are thebots you use today.
(02:37):
And that's by Les Brown, and Ireally like that quote.
It's a quote that reallyresonated with me when I came
across it.
So that's the quote I've usedon day 65, like I said.
So I'm going to start by askingyou a question have you ever
(02:57):
believed something aboutyourself that turned out to be
false or turned out to not betrue?
Maybe you thought that youweren't good at something, only
to realize later that youactually could master it with
effort and practice.
We often hear the phrases youknow when people say it runs in
(03:19):
my family or I'm just wired thisway, as if our genes have the
final say, literally in ourintelligence, in health or in
our future.
And I want to really bring inthe concept of genes today,
because what if I told you thatyour expectations and mindsets
(03:42):
actually shape your reality muchmore than your DNA?
And really that's what I wantus to talk about today.
Proverbs 23, 7 says as a manthinks in his heart, so is he.
So this scripture really alignswith what neuroscience is now
(04:04):
teaching us, or neuroscience isactually confirming that our
thoughts are powerful enough torewire our brain, influence our
emotions and ultimately shapeour life, because the emotions
that we have drives the actionswe take or impact on the actions
(04:25):
we take, which then shapes theway we live our lives and the
way we even perceive life.
God has designed our brainswith neuroplasticity, so that is
the ability to change, to adaptand to grow.
So this means that we're never, never, truly stuck.
(04:47):
No matter what your past is, nomatter the experiences that
you've had from your past maybeyour family history or even
struggles that you've had youcan renew your mind and live in
alignment with God's best foryou, and that is such an
encouraging thing to think about.
(05:08):
That is such an encouraginginformation to have, because
that should help you now shapeyour life based on the way God
has ordained for you to live, the way God has created for you
to live.
Science has told us over yearsthat our genes determine our
(05:30):
intelligence, determine ourhealth and potential.
But modern research is nowshowing us and one of the areas,
one of the places that I like,and it's a book I read a while
ago, david Robson's book that Ithink it's called the
Expectation Factor, theExpectation Factor.
(05:50):
It reveals something reallyincredible that aligns with this
concept of neuroplasticity whatwe believe about ourselves has
a greater impact than our genesdo.
And let me share a fascinatingstudy with you.
Researchers told one group ofpeople that they had a genetic
(06:13):
risk of obesity and they toldanother group that they did not
have that genetic risk ofobesity, even though both groups
had the same genetic profile.
What do you think happened?
The result was quiteinteresting because the group
(06:33):
that believed that they wereprone to obesity gained more
weight.
Over time they gained moreweight.
The expectations about theirbodies shaped their behavior and
ultimately shaped their results.
So it shaped their behavior, which obviously impacted on
(06:54):
their actions, the way they livetheir life, and then it
resulted in the actual finalresult, which was the increased
in weight.
So this aligns perfectly withMark 11, 24.
Mark 11, 24 says whatever youask for in prayer, believe that
(07:17):
you have received it and youshall have it.
So, whatever you ask for inprayer, believe you have
received it and you shall haveit.
So whatever you ask for inprayer, believe you have
received it and you shall haveit, or it will be yours,
depending on the version youread it from.
So faith and believe activatesthe brain's power to reshape
itself.
(07:38):
So if you believe that you'restuck, you stay stuck.
If you believe that, with God,transformation is possible, your
brain will begin forming newneural pathways to align with
this belief and you'll find thatyou'll be drawn or you'll be
(07:58):
more open to see opportunitieswhere you wouldn't have before.
But there's a challenge Emotionscan hijack our expectations,
and that's why this book Rewireyour Brain with Neuroscience and
Scripture is so important andso powerful, because I integrate
(08:20):
the neuroscience, the emotionalintelligence and the scripture
so you can understand how youremotions can impact on your
actions.
So, even though you mightdesire to do something, your
emotions can actually stop youfrom doing them.
But with going through thisbook, you would learn how to
(08:40):
manage your emotions, which isthe power of emotional
intelligence.
So the amygdala, which is thebrain's emotional center, is
designed to protect us from whatour brain perceives to be
danger or threat.
If it's left unchecked, it canmake you live in fear, in
(09:03):
anxiety and self-doubt.
However, the prefrontal cortex, that is, the frontal part of
our brain, that is the part ofthe brain responsible for
planning, for reasoning, formaking sound decisions helps us
regulate our emotions and alignour actions with faith rather
(09:24):
than fear.
And a good question to juststop here and reflect on is are
your expectations driven byfaith or are they driven by fear
?
And that's something you needto just stop and ask yourself.
Stop and ask yourself.
(09:52):
So, when we train our minds toexpect good things and align our
emotions with God's promises, what you end up doing is
unlocking at how to understandthe brain, the mind and mindset.
And this is now going into day66 from the book Rewire your
(10:12):
Brain with Neuroscience andScripture Every Day, and it
incorporates emotionalintelligence every single day,
because the book is, you know,it's split into days, days, so
every day you've got content.
So what content?
Per day a page.
And you've got 366 days, soactually put in an extra day
there for you.
Grab your copy from amazon youknow, if you're looking watching
(10:37):
this on spotify, I'm actuallyholding up the book but get your
copy from amazon, from BarnesNoble, from Waterstones or from
mindsightstorecom.
Get your copy.
It will truly help you and, like I said, it's like carrying
your own personal coach with youeverywhere you go.
So let us break this downfurther.
(10:58):
Many people use the words brain, mind, mindset interchangeably,
but they're not the same and Iwant us to kind of look at what
each of them does.
So the brain is the physicalorgan in our head, made up of
billions of neurons that sendand receive signals.
So information is coming in,they're sending information, or
(11:20):
sending signals and receivingthem.
It's the control center of ourbody.
The mind is not physical.
The mind is where thoughts, where emotions and beliefs are
formed.
It's like the software thatruns on the brain's hardware.
So while the brain is thehardware, the mind is the
(11:42):
software that runs on thathardware.
Then you have the mindset, andI kind of describe the mindset
as the lens through which yousee the world.
So it's that lens through whichyou see the world and I love
that saying.
You see the world not as it is,but as you are.
(12:05):
And that's where your mindsetcomes in.
So your mindset is shaped byyour experiences, by your
thoughts, by beliefs.
So it determines how you reactor respond to challenges, to
setbacks and opportunities.
And it's important to rememberthat when you react, you're
(12:30):
reacting from your emotionalbrain, but when you respond,
you're responding from thatconscious brain where you're
able to reason and makeintentional decisions.
Romans 12.
Too tells us do not conform tothe pattern of this world, but
be transformed by the renewingof your mind.
(12:54):
So that means that we have thecapability and the capacity to
renew our minds.
And that is really what I keeptalking about rewire your brain.
Rewiring your brain is whatwould enable you to renew your
mind.
(13:14):
So this verse is a direct callto train your mindset to
consciously rewire your thoughtspatterns so that they align
with God's truth, rather thanfear, rather than self-doubt or
past failures.
And here's the simple way tounderstand this the brain
(13:37):
processes information.
The mind gives meaning to thatinformation.
Then your mindset determineshow you act on that meaning.
So if your mindset is fixed, you believe that your abilities,
intelligence or circumstancescannot change.
(14:00):
And this is where you findyourself being a victim of life,
being a victim of situations, being a victim of family or
upbringing.
If your mindset isgrowth-oriented, which we'll
call growth mindset, you seeevery challenge as an
opportunity to improve and grow.
So think of a recent challenge.
(14:23):
How did your mindset shape yourresponse or reaction to it?
Write down one belief aboutyourself that you want to change
today.
As we wrap up, I want you totake a moment to reflect on
these two truths.
(14:44):
Your mindset determines whetheryou stay stuck or grow into
your full potential, and thechoice is yours, because you
(15:04):
have the one who believesEverything, and that's why I
always use the concept of becomelimitless.
I am limitless, and there'sactually a section in the book
(15:28):
on becoming limitless.
So this isn't just aboutwishful thinking.
It's about aligning ourexpectations with God's promises
and training our minds to livein faith, not fear.
And some final reflectivequestions I want you to just
(15:50):
think about is what's onelimiting expectation that you
need to let go of?
Just take time and reflect andanswer that question.
And then, secondly, how can yourenew your mindset daily to
align with God's truth?
Because when you align withGod's truth.
(16:13):
With God's truth, because whenyou align with God's truth, then
you're able to live your fullpotential, you're able to live
on purpose, you're able to liveand fulfill the destiny that God
has ordained for you.
So some practical next stepsand in the book, at the end of
every day, you have practicaltips and reflective questions.
(16:36):
So I'm kind of just goingthrough this the way it is in
the book.
So, first and foremost, speaklife over yourself.
Declare God's promises out loudeach morning.
Say them out loud so that yourbrain can hear them as well,
because that is helping you torewire or wire and rewire your
(17:00):
brain.
Reframe negative thoughts, replace limiting beliefs with
scripture-based truths, becauseyou know that scripture is the
truth.
So if you have limiting beliefs, that means that they don't
align with scripture.
So replace them, reframe themwith scripture based truths and
(17:25):
then, finally, regulate youremotions.
So I hope this gives yousomething to really think about
and my prayer is that God willreally help you to design your
mind with the ability to growand change, because you've
already got it.
Use it.
Use what God has given you, thethoughts you have today that
(17:50):
are not aligning with the truthof God.
You have the ability to changethem, so make sure that you do.
Don't forget to head over towherever you buy your books and
