Hey everyone, welcome.
(01:04):
As we step into the beautifulseason of spring, a time when
nature wakes up and everythingaround us starts growing and
blooming again, it's the perfectmoment for us to talk about
personal growth andtransformation.
Today, we're diving deep intohow our emotions, mindset and a
(01:28):
sprinkle of neuroscience canradically change how we approach
our goals and challenges.
It's not just about science.
It's about unlocking thatincredible potential within you
to make real change happen.
Incredible potential within youto make real change happen.
(01:50):
All right, now let's have anhonest chat about emotions for a
moment.
Picture them as theundercurrents of a river,
constant and powerful, guidingus through life's journey.
Sometimes these currents propelus forward, boosting our speed
and direction.
Other times they seem to pullus under, making it hard to keep
(02:16):
our heads above water.
That's the nature of emotionsthey can be both our greatest
allies and our trickiestchallenges.
Now think of your mindset asthe boat navigating these waters
.
With the right mindset, you arethe helm of a nimble vessel,
(02:39):
adept at riding the currents tonew horizons, exploring
uncharted territories withcourage and enthusiasm.
But if your mindset isn't quitein the right place, it's like
being stuck in a boat that'sjust spinning in circles, caught
(03:00):
in the eddy of negativethoughts and self-doubt.
Caught in the eddy of negativethoughts and self-doubt, going
nowhere fast.
This is where the magic ofshifting to a growth mindset
comes in.
Imagine transforming your boatinto a state-of-the-art ship
(03:22):
equipped with the sails ofresilience, the compass of
adaptability and an insatiablecuriosity for the adventures
ahead.
A growth mindset isn't justabout switching gears from I
can't to how can I.
It's about viewing everychallenge as a treasure map
leading to personal growth andnew opportunities.
(03:45):
Map leading to personal growthand new opportunities.
It's like looking at a steepmountain and instead of thinking
I'll never make it to the top,you start asking which path will
take me there?
What skills do I need todevelop?
Who could guide me?
This mindset doesn't just applyto tackling physical challenges,
(04:06):
but to overcoming emotionalhurdles, navigating professional
obstacles and pursuing yourpassions with a relentless drive
.
Embracing a growth mindsetmeans celebrating every small
victory along the way, learningfrom setbacks without letting
(04:26):
them define you, andunderstanding that every
experience, good or bad, is avaluable lesson that's preparing
you for your next big adventure.
So as we sail through emotionalcurrents together, remember
that your mindset is the ruddersteering your journey.
With a growth mindset, there'sno telling how far you'll go or
(04:51):
what incredible discoveries liejust beyond the next bend in the
river.
The question isn't whether youcan navigate the waters.
It's how you use the currentsto your advantage.
Have you ever wished you couldhit the reset button on your
brain to start afresh with aclean slate?
(05:15):
Neuroscience brings us someencouraging news.
With dedication and the rightapproach, it's entirely possible
to reshape our brain.
This fascinating ability isknown as neuroplasticity.
It's the brain's capacity toreorganize itself by forming new
(05:37):
neural connections throughoutour life.
This means that our thoughts, behaviors and environment can
actually change the structureand function of our brains.
But how do we harness thispower?
First, let's dive intomindfulness or meditation.
(05:58):
These are not just buzzwords.
It's a science-based practicethat can lead to significant
changes in our brain.
Mindfulness meditation has beenshown to increase gray matter
in parts of the brain involvedin learning, memory and
emotional regulation.
(06:18):
By simply dedicating a fewminutes each day to being
present in what you're doing, tomeditating.
I personally meditate on theword of God.
So I read a scripture stop, process it, think about it,
reflect on it and relate it tomy life.
(06:40):
What is God saying?
And just stop and listen.
We're not only calming ourminds this way, but it also
physically enhances our brain'sability to process emotions and
information.
It gives our brain theopportunity for the neural
pathways, the neural connections, to form, connections to form,
(07:08):
and this creates deep insight, new ideas, great creativity,
calmness that removes stress andanxiety.
Next, challenging our brain withnew skills is so important.
I don't know if you felt asense of accomplishment after
you've learned something new.
Accomplishment after you'velearned something new, that's
neuroplasticity in action.
(07:28):
Whether it's picking up a newlanguage, mastering a musical
instrument or even engaging in anew hobby, these activities
stimulate our brains in uniqueways, promoting the growth of
these neural pathways.
It's like taking your brain tothe gym the more you exercise it
(07:48):
, the stronger it becomes.
Positive thinking plays acrucial role too, because our
thoughts have a profound impacton our brain structure.
Engaging in positive thinkingand gratitude practices can
bolster areas of the brain thatcontrol attention and emotion,
(08:13):
reducing feelings of stress andanxiety.
So start your day with agratitude journal or
affirmations, or just spendingtime being grateful for where
you are, where you've come, whatyou've overcome, and watch how
it can transform your outlookand your brain.
Integrate these practices intoyour daily routine to truly
(08:37):
embrace neuroplasticity.
Dedicate time to being presentand meditate on God's word.
Challenge yourself to learn newthings regularly and cultivate
a habit of positive thinking.
Remember, the journey torewiring your brain is a
marathon, not a sprint.
(08:59):
It requires patience, persistence and dedication, but
the rewards A more resilient, adaptable and fulfilled mind,
ready to embrace whatever lifethrows your way.
As we explore our brain'sincredible capabilities,
(09:21):
remember that change is not onlypossible.
It's within your grasp.
By understanding and applyingthe principles of
neuroplasticity, you'reunlocking the door to endless
potential for growth andtransformation.
So I encourage you to starttoday.
(09:41):
Choose one practice toincorporate into your routine
and begin the journey ofrewiring your brain for a
brighter, more adaptable future.
Reflection and settingboundaries might sound like
buzzwords as well, but they'regame changers.
Reflecting helps us see thebigger picture and align our
(10:06):
actions with our true values andour true desires, our true
goals.
Boundaries, on the other hand, are not walls.
Other hand are not walls.
They're actually guidelinesthat help us focus on what truly
matters to us, preserving ourenergy for the goals that ignite
our passion.
Because a lot of times, youfind that, without boundaries,
(10:31):
you end up going off track.
You end up moving from whereyou're meant to be going to
where other people are eitherdirecting you or you follow them
on their own path.
And this is why many people getto a point and they wonder how
did I get here?
I'm not even sure what theyshould be doing.
(10:54):
I was speaking to someonerecently.
She told me what she wanted todo and I asked her why, and she
had no clue.
She said well, I see peopledoing it.
It looks good, they make moneyfrom it.
So yeah, I decided that's whatI want to do.
How sad is that?
The problem is that she's beentrying to do this for about six
(11:18):
years.
She says and she will startwhen it doesn't work.
She stops Because there's noconnection, there's no emotional
connection for her, there's noalignment for her.
And this is the problem withnot having boundaries and not
having focus as well about whatyou want for yourself.
(11:39):
Now I want us to talk aboutovercoming procrastination.
It's something we've allexperienced Putting off tasks,
feeling overwhelmed by change, clinging to the comfort of the
known, of the known.
(12:04):
But here's the kickerProcrastination isn't laziness
Well, most times it's not.
It's a tug of war in our brainsbetween instant gratification
and long-term goals.
Recognizing this can be yourfirst step to overcoming it.
By breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps and setting
clear, actionable goals, you cantrain your brain to celebrate
(12:24):
the small wins on the way toyour bigger goals.
This also releases dopamine inyour brain and gives you that
feeling of reward, which thenenables you to keep moving
forward.
So it basically keeps youmotivated to keep going after
the goal that you set foryourself.
(12:44):
Procrastination really happenswhen you lack clarity about what
you want to do.
Or it can also happen whenyou've wired your brain to be
risk averse.
When you've wired your brain tobe a perfectionist.
Procrastination could set in asyour subconscious brain's way
(13:07):
of keeping you in your comfortzone, keeping you in the known.
So the best way around it is toreally understand what your
goal is, why it's your goal, andwhen your brain tries to stop
you, it's giving it theinformation it needs.
That is the why you're pursuingthe goal.
(13:28):
So tell it the reason why.
And it's repetition.
I always say it.
Repetition is what rewires thebrain.
It's not just repeating it onceand thinking that the brain
will hear it.
Remember, you've wired thedisempowering or limiting
mindset or thought process intothe brain over a period of time,
so it will take time to createa new narrative.
(13:50):
So be patient with yourself.
As we wrap up this podcast, today, let's talk about planting
those seeds for your future, literally and metaphorically.
Setting goals now, with theenergy of spring in the air, is
like planting your garden withintention.
