makes you so awesome.
Oh, thank you, Mary, for having me.
Yes.
I am a franchisee owner of The EntrepreneurSource.
And what my business does is we go ahead andeducate people on becoming business owners
through franchising, not pushing people downthat path, but going ahead and giving them that

(01:10):
safe space to learn.
My story began years ago.
I am educate an educator at heart.
I taught in elementary schools for twenty sevenyears.

Of those were all of those children youtouched.
Yeah.

Yes.
So I but I always had a gut feeling, you know,that there was something else more out there,
and I do like change.
You know, I do like challenging myself.
I noticed about every five years, I, you know,would either get a new principal, a new
classroom, a new position, a new school, and Idid like that change.

(01:51):
And I stayed in that position.
You know, it was safe for me for the longesttime because, you know, we had a pension.
Mhmm.
And it was the safe thing to do.
So but my husband's company moved us out toArizona five and a half years ago.
And with that being said, I thought, you knowwhat?
If I'm ever gonna do anything different, now isthe time to do it.

(02:14):
So I taught her a little bit out here, butthen, we were actually contacted by a coach
just like myself.
So my husband and I thought, you know what?
There's no cost or obligation to go throughthis educational process.
Let's just go ahead and learn to see what itlooks like.
So we did.
We went ahead and we met with our coach once aweek.

(02:36):
We had we talked about what our lifestyle,income, wealth, and equity goals look like.
Mhmm.
We talked about the different paths to get tothose goals and expectations.
So it's the coach and and myself, now that I'mdoing it, we don't push people down that path.
We go ahead and just give them that opportunityto learn.

(02:57):
So my husband and I went through that process.
I learned that I wanted to be a full timebusiness owner, owner operator.
I enjoy working.
I enjoy going ahead and having that purposeevery day, you know, waking up.
I did want flexibility in my schedule, though.
Yeah.
You know, my parents are back in Detroit.
I wanted to be able to go help them, you know,and help family whenever they need me to.

(03:21):
I don't wanna have to worry about taking daysoff.
Right.
And then what my husband's job, if it evermoved us again, I didn't wanna have to quit
what I was doing to start over like I had towith teaching.
Yeah.
So I looked at the virtual brands.
And after looking at several of them, you know,the Entrepreneur Source was the one that

resonated with me because it gave me thepotential to earn the money that I'm looking
for, but it also has that flexibility and thefact that I just I'm still educating people.
Yeah.
And I just love that.
So it took me a while, several years probably.
And and, honestly, the move is what pushed meto it, but I really do enjoy.

(04:05):
I think that there I don't I hear a lot frompeople that they don't know that there's even
something out there like this to be educatedat, you know, and and just to go through a
discovery process.
So I do really love enjoying taking peoplethrough that because it can be so overwhelming.
Right.
Just guiding them through that and talkingabout the challenges and, you know, getting the

the answers to their questions for them.
Right.
Right.
I love that.
I love what you do, Kim, because as a businesscoach who works with small business owners,
right, there's so much that you need to knowand learn when you're running a business on
your own.
And if you can jump into a business that'salready proven and already running, Right?

(04:48):
That just saves you so much of a learningthere's still a learning curve there, but you
don't have to invent the deal.
Right?
So Right.
It just is such a nice option for somebody whowants to be a business owner, but they don't
wanna have to go through the learning curve ofstarting something from the ground up.
And Right.
The the other piece that I I really admireabout what you do and how you approach your

(05:09):
work is the fact that, you know, you bring youryour twenty seven years of being a teacher and
the educator piece to it.
But like you said, going through the process,you're helping people start with envisioning
what this life could look like first.
Mhmm.
And then let's find and see if owning abusiness is part of that, you know, picture.

(05:31):
Mhmm.
Right?
Which I think that is sometimes gets overlookedand people say, oh, let's just find you a
business and you can jump in.
And not making sure that that's maybe what'sbest to get the people where they wanna go,
right, to to build the ideal life.
So I love that you that you take that pieceinto into account as well.

(05:51):
Yeah.
Because it's not the path for everybody.
You know?
And I always tell my clients, it's okay.
Go through the discovery.
Find out what it is, and it could easily justnot be for you at all ever.
Or maybe the timing's right.
Maybe this time in this moment, it's not right.
And if we have clients that come back, youknow, a couple years later, if things change

(06:12):
for them, you know, maybe there's people outthere that need to work on credit score or
just, you know, you know, just being in theright place at the right time for them.
Mhmm.
Life happens.
And but, you know, everyone gets to we alwayswanna find or help our clients get to a better
place than we first found them.
So whether that's if franchising is for them,great.

(06:36):
But if it's not, that's okay too.
We have people that we can refer them to forlooking still in a w two position.
You know, if through this process, some peoplerealize that they wanna start their own
independent business, and that's great too.
Well, you know, if that's what you wanna do, wehave an organization that we can refer you to.
So it's not just that you need to do thefranchising.

(06:57):
That's all I can offer.
That's not true.
Right.
Right.
And we go ahead and look at those, you know,income, lifestyle, wealth, and equity goals as
a gauge when moving forward.
And no matter what path they take, is that pathgoing to help you reach those goals.
Yes.
Yes.
I love that.
I love that.
So tell our listeners, you mentioned that aboutevery five years in your career, you kind of

(07:21):
had this change, right?
Where you had a new opportunity or took on anew opportunity.
So how share with our listeners, because it'scalled leap to success, right?
So how did you realize it was time to take aleap to do something new, and then how did you
get through that process?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Great question.
Like I said, everyone has that inner voice.

(07:44):
You know?
The higher power, whatever they believe in, youknow, talking to whether it's through your gut,
that gut feeling that I know a lot of peoplethink about, you know, in your heart, you just
know, you just have this feeling or there'sthat little whisper, like, what else is out
there for me?
I have had that often in my life and often inmy career.
One of the things, like I said, I just didn'tknow what product or service to sell.

(08:06):
Yeah.
Or when I did have a product or service, I juststarted my own business just was so
overwhelming.
But when I went through this process, you know,the franchisors really do hold your hand and
get you through that process.
And so when I realized that for myself that,oh, okay.

(08:28):
It's not so overwhelming.
I have a step by step program that's going tohelp me through that process.
You know, do this first, get it checked off,then we're gonna move on.
So they did have that support, and they trainedme.
They gave me extensive training, one on onecoaching.
You know, you have peer groups that are sosupportive.
You have people that are actually starting thatexact same business.

(08:52):
Yeah.
So that is what gave me the confidence in be ain being able to move forward because they did
have, like you said mentioned earlier, thoseproven systems and processes in place.
So I didn't have to do, like, a trial.
Is this going to work or is it not going towork?
Right.
You know, if you follow those systems andprocesses, you know, they've been proven, stick

(09:14):
to those guidelines, and you will besuccessful.
So I think that's what I needed.
Not everybody needs that guidance, but for me,that was what gave me the courage and the
confidence to go ahead.
And I did not want to live with what if I wouldhave tried this back then.
I'm the type of person I've had a couple oftimes in my life where I'm like, alright.

(09:37):
If I don't take this opportunity, am I going tolive with regrets, or am I going to live and
have you know, move forward with this?
If it doesn't work out, well, those areopportunities.
Those are things that I'm learning from thatcan move me forward to another a better place
than where I'm at now.
So I just didn't wanna have to live with whatifs at that time.

(09:59):
Nice.
Nice.
That two things that you mentioned that I justlove is the you know, listening to that inner
voice.
And so how did that show up for you?
You know, sometimes people wait until almostthe universe slaps them with the two by four
across the head.
Right?
And they have an illness or something majorhappens in their life, and that forces us to

(10:20):
make the shift versus us listening to all theselittle sim you know, whispers along the way and
paying attention to them because it's scarymaking leaps and changes.
Right?
So Absolutely.
Especially when we're comfortable with whatwe're doing.
So how do you how do you start to pay attentionto those things, and and then how do you when

(10:40):
when does it show up enough that you're like,okay.
I I need to pay attention to this?
Right.
Right.
For me, it was that that gut feeling.
You know, I just had a feeling it was whatthere's gotta be something more.
There's gotta be something.
I have this one life.
Let's make the most of it.
But like I said, in Michigan, I stayed ineducation.
It was safe for me to stay there.

(11:01):
Moving out to Arizona, unfortunately, I took ahuge pay cut.
Mhmm.
And I actually I worked with a wonderfulperson, and he ended up leaving the school that
I was at.
Had a great group of staff.
Great.
But I just that's kinda like I just had thisfeeling.
It started getting to where I was not lookingforward to going to work anymore.

(11:23):
Mhmm.
And I had always enjoyed it.
And I just was like, I don't I just didn'tthink I could do this anymore.
And it was, of course, after COVID and allthese different changes that had gone through
with education.
So that, I think, just because in my mind, Ihad taken huge pay cut.
Not that I mean, it's the fact that he waslike, there's all these moving pieces that just

(11:47):
weren't resonating with me anymore.
And the fact that I was just having those, notjust any Sunday scaries anymore or Sunday
blues, I was having them every evening.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Just the things that they weren't working out.
So that's where I took, you know, kind of aninventory of what do I want in my life.
You know, that and that's where it just kindacame to.

(12:09):
This is the point in my life that I have tojump, and I don't know if even waiting is a
good thing for me anymore.
Let's do something.
Let's do it now.
But I am a you know, I believe in God.
Everybody can believe what they need to believein, but I feel that he I had had that feeling
ten years ago.
I had had it five years ago.

(12:29):
I had it here.
And then just what was keeping me from Icouldn't say that I had that pension anymore.
Right.
You know, that I got back in Michigan.
Mhmm.
You know, I didn't so I just had to do it.
I had to do it.
Yeah.
So that's what I yeah.
That's what I went ahead and just thingsweren't working out the way that I thought, and
now's the time to go ahead and do it.

(12:49):
And it was.
And one thing I was learning too is thatstaying in that comfort zone is keeping you
safe.
It's a safe spot.
Yeah.
But if you are comfortable, then you're notgrowing.
Yes.
If you are uncomfortable, then you're growing.
So I knew I was very comfortable, and I love achallenge.

(13:12):
I love to learn.
I love to grow.
So I knew that I just had to step out of thatcomfort zone to be able to fill my need,
whatever it was at the time.
Yes.
I love that.
I love that.
And, you know, there's so many reasons we talkourselves into staying in that comfort zone,
and we don't pay attention to all those signsand signals and, you know, whispers until

(13:34):
sometimes we're forced to make a change, like Isaid.
But but I think that, comfortable.
Those kind of things start to boil over for us.

(13:56):
So I love that you addressed that as wellbecause I'm sure in your work with your with
your clients and trying to help them find theright thing and being educated in making that
choice, it helps them even if they say no, likeyou said, it's not a good fit for them right
now.
Right.
They can they can clearly say, I explored that.

(14:17):
I found out it's not for me, and I can move onwithout regrets and not wonder, well, should I
have done that after all?
Really?
Should I have done that?
But but the clarity that you give your clientsreally is important for them to be able to move
on from that decision, whatever the decision is
Mhmm.
With Right.
The conviction that, yes, this is the rightthing for me.
Right?
So that's really, really powerful.

(14:38):
It's a gift that I give to people.
Right.
Right.
Yeah.
That that and you said it.
The main word is clarity.
Mhmm.
You know, whatever path that is for you or notfor you.
Mhmm.
And that's that's really our goal is to justbring them to that point of clarity.
Yes.
Yes.
I love that.
And I love that you and your husband, you know,did that with each with each other and went

(15:00):
through the process.
Right?
So you both got to experience that before youjumped in.
You're like, this is what I love.
That's how I became a business coach.
Right?
I Right.
Had a business, and I knew I needed outsideeyes at my business.
I hired a business coach, and I fell in lovewith the whole process.
And so I was like, I wanna do that.
Nice.
Nice.
You know, ten years later, here we are.

(15:21):
Right?
But
It's Yeah.
Exactly what happened with me too because Istill we started you know, I knew what I
wanted.
I wanted to be virtual.
I wanted to have that flexibility in myschedule.
And started asking the our coach, like, well,how can I start doing what you do?
You know?
Is that Yeah.
And it just happened to be it happened to beone of the 200 companies in the inventory.
You know?

(15:41):
So it's not taking people to it's not takingpeople down that path to do what I do.
That's an option, but there are so many otheroptions as well.
Yes.
Yes.
Mhmm.
I
wanna dive in a little bit because this bringsup, you know, what kind of franchises do you
work with?
Because for many people, they hear franchisesand they think fast food.
It has to be fast food.

(16:02):
Right?
Or, you know, maybe a plumber or something likethat.
Mhmm.
But most of the franchises we think of, youknow, it comes to fast food.
So tell our audience a little bit about, youknow, kind of some of the businesses that you
represent.
Oh, sure.
Yes.
We have over 20 different industries in ourinventory.
And then within that those inventories, we haveover 200 companies.

(16:25):
So it's a huge wide range.
But we have, you know, personal business,consulting, coaching.
We have automobile.
We've got accounting and financial services.
We have fitness, sports, recreation.
We have health and wellness.
We do have a few food and Mhmm.

(16:49):
Brands, but not anything.
You know, the the Chick fil A's and things likethat, they don't need us.
You know?
So
Right.
Yeah.
It's not like that.
But we just we have a few.
We have anything like medical, packaging, pestcontrol, logistics, distribution, marketing,
web advertising.

(17:09):
Mhmm.
Yeah.
There I'm trying to think.
There's we I have we have a whole list ofwhat's out there.
You know, senior care services.
Some travel.
You know?
So there there's a lot.
And each people come to me and they're like,oh, I've always dreamt of doing such and such.

(17:29):
Yeah.
But our main goal is to have people keep anopen mind.
You know, there it's really important to keepthat open mind because you never know what
opportunity may be out there for you that's notwhat you thought it may be.
Yes.
So we actually have a statistic within ourbrand that there's 95% of the people that we

(17:51):
have worked with actually have gone intosomething that they would have dismissed
initially.
Interesting.
Went through the education, they're like, oh mygoodness.
I never realized that that brand or thatindustry could give me the income, lifestyle,
wealth, and equity that I'm looking for.
Right.
Always encourage.
You know, we'll get the clients that are like,they wanna do this.

(18:11):
I wanna stick with this.
But I challenge people.
You know?
That this I wanna challenge you to stay openminded and learn.
We're not making any decisions in thebeginning.
You'll learn what the businesses have.
Learn what the what your likes and yourdislikes are about the businesses, and then
we'll focus on the industry later becauseyou'll fall in love with an industry once you

(18:34):
realize it meet you know, will help you meetyour
It checks all your boxes that you want.
Yeah.
Exactly.
So there's just and a lot of the things is youdon't know what you don't know.
Mhmm.
You know, a lot of people will come in withpreconceived ideas or, you know, my friend
owned this kind of a business, and it wasn't agreat experience.

(18:55):
Well
Mhmm.
What kind of support did they get from thebrand?
How did they run the business?
There's so many different things.
So a lot of people will come in with negativeideas or thoughts about it.
But I just say, let's okay.
And that that may be true, but let's go aheadand learn and get the facts.
Yes.
Let's see if those are actually valid concernsor not.

(19:17):
And the way to do that is to go through theprocess and Right.
Get whether, you know, if that is a truevalidation or a false validation from the
people that are in those businesses at thattime now.
Yes.
I love that.
I love that.
And so, you know, we are here in mid April oftwenty twenty five, and so there are lots of

(19:39):
people being let go of their their lifetime,maybe lifetime government jobs.
Right?
So Yeah.
Are they they might be looking for the nextthing that is completely out of their comfort
zone.
Right?
Or maybe potentially of the job that they'vebeen doing their whole career.
So how do you how do you help those kind ofpeople that you know, you've kind of just

(20:04):
walked through it through your education piece,but do you have a message for those people that
are out there or those that might be, you know,related to somebody?
And how what's the first step to getting towork with you to exploring that as an option?
Right.
Right.
No.
That's a good we are having a lot of federalworkers, you know, coming to us now and asking
that exact same question.

(20:25):
And they have, like, an insecurity, I feellike, where they've been working in the private
sector for so long.
How will it Yeah.
Translate or transfer over into the public?
So I just tell them that it's no different thanlearning and educating yourself about anything
else.
Mhmm.
The

(20:45):
first thing is just education.
First of all, let's look at what your goals andexpectations are.
Because whatever path you take, whether it bestaying in the same industry, looking at a
different industry, opening up your ownbusiness, going into franchising, or, you know,
looking more into the stock market or lookingat real estate, that whatever path you take,

(21:07):
those are the same goals and expectationsyou're going to want.
So we work on that first.
Then we go ahead and I just tell them, youknow, educate yourself.
No decisions are being made.
This really is a true safe spot for you tolearn.
In fact, when people get into a point oftalking with the franchisors and the

(21:28):
franchisees, we tell them, if anyone ispressuring you, let me know that right away
because this is not and they know comingthrough our through our system that this is
educational.
It is not supposed to be a pressure sale thingfor people.
I tell them come to visit our time share, andthen we're gonna lock you
in for
two hours and drill your feet.

(21:49):
Exactly.
Exactly.
So and, like, I just tell them, you don't knowwhat you don't know, and a lot of people are
very receptive to that.
A lot of people you know, a lot of the federalworkers haven't been laid off yet.
But they see writing on the wall, they justhave that cloud hanging over them.
They don't know what's to come, if anything atall.
And they just are maybe I need to start gettingprepared.

(22:11):
So they do have the time right now.
They still have that steady income of the w tworight now.
Let's go ahead and take that time to educateyourself on figuring out if this is a path for
you or not.
Yes.
Yes.
Mhmm.
And that brings up a good question.
Do your do you help with financing to for thesepeople to get into the franchise world, or or,

(22:34):
you know, do they need to come with a certainamount of money before it's worthwhile for them
to explore it, or what does that
look like?
Good question.
Good question.
We don't want we don't want finances to stopsomebody from learning.
Mhmm.
Sometimes we'll have clients that come andmaybe they're not financially ready, but they
know for sure that they wanna do this.
It's like, okay.
Then we're gonna start working from right now.

(22:56):
What are those steps that we need to take?
We do put people in front of funding education.
That is part of the process because that somany questions.
And that's what stops many people from evenlearning about this.
They think, oh, I don't have the money.
You know, that's a myth out there that you needto have millions of dollars to open up a
business.
That's not true.

(23:17):
So we go ahead and we do have people that weexperts that will talk to them about the
funding options, what the different optionsare, and what those requirements are for them.
It's like a high level overview so that in casethere is something that they are falling in
love with as they're learning, then they canstart thinking about how they may go ahead and

(23:40):
fund a business for themselves.
So there are definitely that's part of theeducation as well.
Good.
Good.
Because I think that can be one of theroadblocks we put in front of ourselves that
doesn't necessarily need to be there.
Right?
So
Right.
Definitely a fear.
Mhmm.
So my next question is kind of about thatmindset.

(24:02):
Right?
So we we talked about putting roadblocks infront of ourselves, but I really firmly believe
that success is just not about business.
Right?
It's not about having a business and what's inyour bank account.
It's about joy and fulfillment too.
So what is something that truly lights you upabout the work that you get to do?
Oh gosh.
I absolutely love hearing everyone's story.

(24:25):
There is something unique in every singleindividual I talk to, there it's a different
story.
It's a different makeup.
It's a different experience that they've allhad or where they're coming from or where they
want to go to.
And I'm and like I said, I love change.
So this this what I'm doing is it changes everyconversation I have with people and what their

(24:49):
dreams are.
I do love helping people and giving them thosemoments or experiences to have moments Yeah.
Where they're coming back and, like, oh my god.
I never even thought that this was available,or I never even thought that that would be
something that could help me to reach my goalsor expectations.
Yes.
You know?
Yes.

(25:09):
I never even thought that this industry so andI am still learning along the way.
You know, it's so amazing how I even don't knowknow it all.
I tell them, I'm gonna put you in front of theexperts because I even don't know it all.
Right.
Right.
So we're gonna go ahead and get you that thoseanswers that you need.
So I just love I love helping people.

(25:31):
I love helping them to think of what is theirwhy and getting them to be able to get to those
goals and expectations.
But that that that is something that I truly,truly do enjoy.
Good.

You can see it in your face.
Right?

Your passion to just help people.
And I think that comes through as part of yourteacher, the teacher of you.

Just having those moments with your studentsmust have been very rewarding too when they
finally get what they're what you're teachingthem and that it makes sense.
Right?
So Right.
That's part of the joy that that I work with aswell.
Right?

(26:12):
So so many of our listeners might be on theedge of a taking a leap or they're hearing all
those little whispers or they're getting thatgut feeling like, what else is possible for me?
There must be something bigger.
I meant for something bigger or somethingdifferent.
Right?
So what would be your best piece of advice fortaking some bold action with confidence when

(26:33):
they start hearing all those whispers?
Just take one step at a time.
Don't get so frustrated and look way down theroad.
Just take that next step.
And then once you've achieved that, take thatnext step.
So if it's even just having a phone call withme, you know, let's talk about it.
You know?
And then my goal is just to ask you about thenext phone call.

(26:56):
My goal is not to start talking to you about,oh, are you gonna wanna do this or not?
That comes later on down the road.
It's just taking one baby step at a time, onestep further than you were yesterday.
Yes.
Yes.
Mhmm.
I love that.
I love that.
And I wanted to go back because I I know we'vetalked about this in other conversations, but I
don't think we brought it up now, was when wewere talking about the financing, it doesn't

(27:19):
cost anything to work with you.
Correct?
Correct.
So as they're going through and getting allthis education, that all comes to them for
free.
Again, even if they decide this isn't the rightpath for them and they have that clarity and
conviction that they've explored it thoroughlyand it's not the right fit, that doesn't cost
them anything but their time, which is just soamazing in this day and age.

(27:42):
Mhmm.
Right?
Mhmm.
So so talk a little bit about that because Ithink, again, that's one of the roadblocks that
we can kind of throw in our own way is, oh, Ihave to pay for this consulting, and I don't
wanna talk to her because I don't have anymoney or whatever.
Right.
We make up all these stories in our heads.
Exactly.
We come up without so many excuses.
Right?
Mhmm.
Yes.
But you could take that off the off the platefor yourself.

(28:02):
There's no cost or obligation Yeah.
To work with me.
We are paid.
I do get paid because people are like, well,how do you get paid?
Well, I get paid down the road.
If somebody does invest, then the franchisorgives me a placement fee.
And we have enough people that go down thatpath.
So that's why I don't feel that.
And it's just not me.
I'm just not I'm not into sales pressuring.

(28:23):
You know?
Right.
I will give you guide you through something ifyou need it.
The most, like we said, the only cost is time.
But if people are willing to give their timeand be active in the process and stay open
minded and show up, then I'm so happy to takethem through that process because I think it's

(28:43):
an unbelievable process and experience that alot of people don't even know are out there.
I never knew, even for myself, that it was outthere until our coach reached out to us.
So I even if people walk away from this, I'vehad plenty of people that have left
testimonials and reviews for me that havewalked away and saying that they still enjoy
