Chuck Keller is a retired Highlands High School English Department Chair and teacher. Among other recognitions, he was honored as a Teacher-of-the-Year and was awarded an Ashland Oil Golden Apple Award for his local, regional, and statewide work. For seven years post-retirement he wrote a weekly column for Fort Thomas Matters, was a member of the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Education Roundtable, wrote for Cincinnati Soapbox, and still contributes to the Louisville Courier-Journal, and is an judge for the annual writing contest for the National Society of Newspaper Columnists organization. He is also President of the Board of the Fort Thomas Forest Conservancy, the city’s local non-profit land trust entrusted with preserving there natural heritage of the area, and he sits on other green oriented boards in the area. He served on numerous school, city, state, and national committees. He’s an accomplished musician who still performs, he loves to garden, kayak, and cycle. When he retired, the community honored him by naming him the Grand Marshall of the Independence Day parade. Chuck has won many awards in his career as an educator and has twice been named a Kentucky Colonel in recognition of his noteworthy community accomplishments and outstanding public service. He believes that a community is only as good as the people make it so he strives toward that end.
