Andrew (00:07):
Welcome back to now,
season two of Legends, loot and
Lore for 2024.
We are back and we are ready totalk all things Dungeons,
dragons.
We are going to start off everymonth now with an episode of
actual play.
(00:27):
We are going to be playing FanDelver and below, the Shattered
Obelisk, exactly.
Very exciting With me today aretwo of the players.
We're kind of doing a session, zero sort of, in preparation for
(00:50):
this we will.
Next episode will be the actualplay with our third person,
james.
You'll be joining us, yes, andso today I want to talk about
kind of the setup for Fan Delverand below.
I'll give a little bit of thebackstory.
We are using the official.
(01:12):
This is my first time DMing afull campaign.
This is also my first timedoing like a full in person
campaign.
So this is very exciting for meas a D&D player.
We I kind of Christmas myselfthe legendary addition from
(01:35):
Beetle and Grimm's.
I am so excited.
This is the most incredible boxset ever of items for Fan Delver
and below.
So it's a little pricey.
It's like 350 bucks, but I gotto tell you a little pricey,
just a little, just a little, just a tad bit pricey.
I'm going to tell you a littlebit about the goodies that they
give you.
They give you all of theencounter cards.
(01:59):
So for all of the, all thedifferent monsters that you
encounter throughout thecampaign, they give you the
cards.
So you have all the stat blocksand all of those readily
available.
They give some great maps.
They give some handouts.
So the players are going to begetting a bunch of different
handouts throughout the game tokind of add some flavor to that.
So I'm looking forward to that.
(02:21):
There's some, there's some otheritems, some other not magical
items, but there are some otherphysical items in the box that
can be handed out.
So there's, there's all sortsof cool things.
I am, I am super psyched.
I've got my, my DM screen uphere.
I've got a laptop.
I've got so much equipmentaround me, but anyway, very
(02:43):
excited.
So today we've got Catherineand Fable here with us.
Catherine (02:49):
Dynamic duo.
Andrew (02:51):
Are you the dynamic?
Catherine (02:52):
You're, we are a
dynamic duo.
A dynamic duo?
Absolutely Not the dynamic duo,but a dynamic duo.
Andrew (02:59):
Excellent.
I am very excited.
Catherine (03:01):
So probably a little
bit of trouble, definitely
trouble.
Andrew (03:05):
The two of you are
definitely troubled together.
So we are going to talk abouteach of your characters and
we'll dive into your, your backstories, a little bit.
We'll talk about the charactersthemselves.
Here we.
These are the character thatCatherine is playing.
You're playing Zan RoseBumblebumble, which was, if you
(03:27):
recall, which is one of thecharacters we created, which is
a monk.
Catherine (03:31):
Yes, correct, yes.
Andrew (03:34):
And what A rock gnome.
A rock gnome, a rock gnome monk.
Yes, so this was one of the.
This is one of the.
This is the melee characterthat we built in an earlier
episode of last season, so soCatherine will be playing that
fable.
What's the name of yourcharacter fable?
Fable (03:50):
Dahl.
Andrew (03:52):
Dahl Dahl.
Yes, so Dahl is a tieflingsurprise, surprise, so shocking,
right, a tiefling cleric.
So we'll talk about yourcharacter as well.
I'm going to give somebackground into Van Delver and
below to to give everybody alittle bit of history as to what
(04:12):
the story is If you're notfamiliar.
Really, the first half of VanDelver and below is the starting
pack of what was the lost mindsof Van Delver.
So the first half of the, thisoverarching campaign, is really
kind of a reimagining of I don'teven remember where I was.
(04:35):
That's all right.
So, as I was saying, oh, youtoo, I'm going to regret this.
Catherine (04:47):
So you've been saying
that for almost 18 years.
I know.
We've been together 21 years Iknow, I'm just saying since we
got married.
Andrew (04:57):
Oh, I was going to say I
didn't regret the first three
years.
Something at some point made meregret this entirely.
No, not at all.
So yes, so the first half ofVan Delver, and below is, is a
reimagining of the lost minds ofVan Delver.
So it really takes all thatcontent and kind of weaves it
(05:19):
into a larger story which isabout the shattered obelisk and
and all that fun stuff.
So that's, that's part two ofof the campaign.
So really, chapters one throughfour are the lost minds of Van
Delver, and then we get into thesecond half, which is really
talking about the shatteredobelisk and what, what that
(05:40):
means and and and what they haveto do to try to to beat the,
the big bad evil guy.
All right, so let's dive into.
I want to get a little bit intothe Background here, so.
So this takes place on thesword coast.
(06:02):
So if you're familiar at allwith D&D, settings is on the
sword coast, Just a little bitsouth of these two are not
familiar at all with the swordcoast, which is fine, you don't?
You don't do homebrew.
That's fine, I'm just sayingjust here for snacks.
You're here for the snacks.
That's right, right on.
So Takes place on the swordcoast.
(06:24):
Fandolin or Fandolin, dependingon how you like to pronounce it
.
I've heard it.
I've heard it both ways.
Fandolin is just a little bitsouth of Neverwinter.
There is the the high road.
The high road leads south fromneverwinter, and then there's
the tri-bore trail, which headseast off of the high road, and
(06:50):
then, after you're on thetri-bore trail for a little bit,
you see, you Go south and youhead toward Fandolin, and that's
that's where this adventure is.
So, nestled on the northernsword coast, between neverwinter
wood and the sword mountains,is the town of Fandolin.
Centuries ago, fandolin was athriving settlement with deep
(07:11):
ties to its neighboringcommunities, but then bandits
overran the town and Fandolinlay abandoned for centuries.
Only in the past few years havesettlers built a new village on
the ruins of the old.
These towns, folk hope to growFandolin through hard work,
camaraderie and the sharedpurpose of building a lasting
(07:33):
home.
Threatening their efforts andtheir survival are bandits and
monsters.
Ooh, bandits and monsters, goblins, ne'er-do-wells, yes,
ne-er-do-wells.
When do they do?
(07:54):
Well, ne'er, exactly.
Fable (07:59):
I've never heard of those
.
Andrew (08:01):
You've never heard of
Ne'er-du-wells.
No, well see people whoNe'er-do-well they just
Ne'er-do-well.
See, some people do well, theyNe'er-do-well.
Catherine (08:12):
Got it, we're going
straight.
Gary Gulman right now.
Andrew (08:15):
Love you, gary.
All right, so let's, let's talka little bit about so, so what?
What is happening is our threeadventurers are Somehow some way
in there in their own, theirown storyline, leaving
Neverwinter and heading down toFandolin.
(08:35):
So, fable, let's start with you.
So let's, let's talk about yourcharacter a little bit first.
So, dow, dow, solace.
So Tell us your, your feelingfor who Dow is, what's what,
what prompted you I tell meagain, because our listeners may
not know what prompted you tomake this character and tell us
(08:58):
a little bit about their, theirbackground and how they, and
let's figure out how they got toNeverwinter.
Fable (09:06):
Well, I'm made Dal
because I want to make a tea
from cleric, and I think that'sall that needs saying.
But I theme them after the moonbecause they worship the I'm
not gonna say the name, rightthe moon maiden the moon maiden
Okay and they're a bit reserved.
(09:26):
I'm gonna work on thepersonality a bit, but they're
kind of they're off bythemselves, they're hermit,
they're kind of Doing their ownthing.
Andrew (09:34):
That's right, never
winter.
So you chose the hermitbackground for for now and so
down normally lives In never inthe neverwinter woods, got it?
So what is so?
I know you've been working onthis, so tell us a little bit
about Dow's living situation inthe neverwinter woods.
Fable (09:56):
Are you gonna post the
picture of the house?
Andrew (09:58):
I will post.
I will post a picture of thehouse, absolutely.
Fable (10:02):
I drew an adorable little
house and they're kind of
living, would we say, where thatstream is the river, it's kind
of circled by the water.
Andrew (10:14):
Yeah, so there are
several, I don't say tributaries
, but there are several branchesof the river that that flow
Flow out to the sea, through, through neverwinter Coming
coming out of the mountains arethese rivers, but there's kind
of a a when where the riversstart to meet.
There there's kind of a almostalmost an island.
(10:36):
Yeah, in the middle sides it'scovered by a peninsula,
peninsula, sure, but Anyway, there there's kind of a, an
isolated, I Sort of island inthe middle, yeah, and that's
where down is Reside, as asthat's there, where does a
(10:57):
hermit live?
Fable (10:58):
a hermitage.
Andrew (10:59):
That's right.
So that's where doll lives.
That's very, that's veryexciting.
So so what?
What is dowels?
Relationship to neverwinter.
Fable (11:14):
Well, I think they were
Living there when they were
younger but, Something happenedand they decided they wanted to
get out of the city and live insolitude.
Andrew (11:26):
I say okay, Do you know
yet what happened?
What that is that happened tothem?
Where's that to be determined?
Fable (11:32):
Started writing, didn't
finish it.
Probably gonna change it.
Andrew (11:35):
So got it, okay.
So something happened.
So so dowel was a city dwellerof neverwinter, and something
caused them to Leave the city, abandon the city and and take up
residence in the neverwinterwood building their hermitage
Mm-hmm, excellent.
So Does does dowel still goback into the city like what's
(12:00):
what?
What does dowel do now?
Fable (12:03):
They occasionally go back
into the city when they need
like essential supplies and alsoto hear what's going on, like
the gossip, like.
Andrew (12:12):
So dowels into the hot
goss.
She, she, she wants to knowwhat's what's what.
Fable (12:16):
Occasionally interesting.
Andrew (12:18):
We would.
Is dowel someone who watch likereality TV?
Fable (12:22):
No no more stuff
pertaining to information.
Andrew (12:26):
She reads like a
magazine, no.
Catherine (12:30):
Sounds a little bit
more like an intelligence agent
to me.
Andrew (12:34):
Ah, it's it.
Oh, I see.
So it's not.
It's not a story gossip, it's,it's in for it's like
information.
That way, I see, okay, thatmakes a lot more sense a little
gossip is fun to a little gossipis always fun.
Catherine (12:48):
Do they get us weekly
and fanpillant I?
Andrew (12:55):
Don't, I don't know.
Catherine (12:56):
I mean, you brought
it up, so I was just, I was
something and and no in theneverwinter and neverwinter.
Andrew (13:02):
Maybe there is a version
of of us fortnightly, I don't,
I I.
Catherine (13:08):
I don't know, I know
fortnight not a fortnight and
instead of people, it'screatures.
Andrew (13:17):
It could be well.
There's humans, there's a lotof humans in neverwinter.
Catherine (13:21):
I know, but do you
want to exclude everyone else?
No, that's us.
Us is everyone.
I'm not excluding anyone butpeople and us both exist.
So like there can't be twomagazines, there's just the one
there could be people.
Andrew (13:35):
So you have a creature
magazine, yeah, and that's,
that's a, that's a sincerepossibility.
Okay, monster, monster monthly,I mean.
I like that right, monstermonthly get what's good.
What's going on?
Absolutely.
What's going on with the, thered brands?
What's going on with the cragmaw goblins?
(13:56):
We want to know, we need someinformation.
Catherine (13:59):
Apparently need
information about all of those,
because I don't know what any ofthem are you'll find out.
Andrew (14:06):
That's why, cool I'm
just.
I'm just dropping hints as towhat you're, what you can expect
In the in the upcoming weeksand months when we're, when
we're playing this game.
Catherine (14:15):
I better tell James
to listen to this podcast.
Andrew (14:17):
Yes, james, hello James,
so okay.
So so Dallas and an informationseeker, mm-hmm slash partial
gossip.
Totally cool.
So and what else is Dow doingin, in, in never winter?
Fable (14:37):
Well, some supplies you
can't some supplies, okay, you
gotta go to the city got it.
Andrew (14:42):
Okay, what type of
supplies I Know, say I'm really,
I'm really quizzing you.
Now I want to get deep on this.
Character textiles Okay, thatmakes sense, like curtains for
the windows, or or, or bedding,or, or, what about?
Well, cuz I mean parchmentpaper, bandages, yeah, medical
(15:05):
supplies, medical supplies, because Dow is a.
Healer she is a healer and Dowis a she.
Yeah, that's their pronouns.
I want to make sure I get thisright, okay.
Fable (15:18):
Well, followers of the
moon maiden are basically their
whole things like be nice topeople.
I'm ever.
Someone needs help.
You have to help them.
It's like obligation.
Andrew (15:28):
Interesting that that
could, that could be very
interesting.
So what Will so if you're, ifyou have an encounter and you're
fighting creatures and and oneof them is not yet dead but
partially like hurt, what wouldDow help them as well?
Fable (15:49):
It depends.
Andrew (15:50):
Do they have to ask for
help like what's, what's Like
how?
How committed is Dow to, tobeing a healer?
Fable (15:57):
Well, it's like help
people, but if they're gonna
hurt you, like protect yourself.
I guess, so you gotta protectmaybe they put them out of their
misery.
Andrew (16:09):
Well, that escalated
quickly.
Wow, just putting them downlike Fables Ruthless.
Catherine (16:17):
Really Wow, yikes.
Andrew (16:19):
All right, okay, so.
So Dow goes into Neverwinterand Picking up supplies,
gathering information, what,what has?
Let's go back to some of thebasics, though.
So what does Dal look like?
Fable (16:42):
They are entirely purple.
Andrew (16:45):
Entirely One shade or
multi-shade.
Fable (16:49):
Well, they're like a
dusty purple, are we talking?
Andrew (16:51):
like grimace purple, or
like we talking a nice.
Fable (16:55):
No, it's grimace purple.
Andrew (16:58):
Google grimace.
Fable (17:00):
Oh wait, I think I know
what he looks like.
There's a tick-trock trend ofhim killing people.
Catherine (17:04):
That's the grimace
shake, the grimace shake.
We're cool, we're hip.
Fable (17:10):
No, it's not grimace
color.
Andrew (17:13):
So Dal does not look
like grimace color-wise at least
no, they don't.
Okay, we've established that.
Fable (17:20):
They have long like
darker purple horns, like a
brightish purple.
I'm like periwinkle.
Is that what I said, periwinkle?
Andrew (17:32):
Yeah, I think you said
periwinkle.
Fable (17:33):
They're like braids that
kind of fade down into a bit of
a darker purple.
Cool, and they're tall.
Andrew (17:41):
How tall is Dal?
Remind me, without the horns, how tall is Dal?
Fable (17:45):
Without the horns.
Did you say 5'11".
No, I think it was like I haveit in here 6'5" 6'5".
Andrew (17:56):
With the horns or
without the horns?
Fable (17:57):
Without the horns I mean,
it was in math and it was like
7'2" Wow.
Andrew (18:08):
I can double check.
That is going to.
This is I have to See, I haveto remember these things because
this is going to be interestingwhen I'll write it in the notes
.
Yeah, when Dal walks into town.
Dal is hard to mess round tobegin with, and then a seven
(18:30):
foot something bright, purplebright purple Tiefling is is
going to to gather some gainsome attention from from people.
Fable (18:42):
I think that's why they
live in the middle of nowhere
Okay.
Andrew (18:45):
Well, that's a that
makes.
That makes perfect sense.
All right, excellent.
So we know, we know what Dowlooks like.
We know kind of we have thebackground on who Dow is, so
tell us why.
What is, what happened to makeDow want to go to Fandolin?
Fable (19:08):
Well they, on one of
their trips into Neverwinter
they heard something aboutsister.
What's her name?
Sister G is what I wrote down.
Andrew (19:24):
Oh, I have to look it up
.
Hang on, keep going, keep going.
I'll look it up.
Fable (19:31):
I swear I wrote down,
I'll find it somewhere.
But they heard that she hassome information pertaining the
moon maiden, which is her deity, perhaps an artifact or a text.
She doesn't quite know yet andshe wants to go and check it out
.
So, and that's her reason forgoing to Fandelver or Fandolin.
Andrew (19:59):
All right, I want to see
.
Oh, sister Garriel, SisterGarriel.
So sister Garriel, let's see.
Oh, is an elf cleric.
So sister Garriel is an elfcleric of Timora and a Harper
agent.
And you're looking for what?
Fable (20:24):
Information on the moon
maiden.
Andrew (20:27):
Information on the moon
maiden.
Okay, this is going to be veryinteresting.
I'm looking at you, catherine, why You're up next, excellent,
so.
So Dow is going to be headingto heading to Fandolin to try to
meet up with sister Garriel andfigure out what's what's going
(20:51):
on.
See, that's see.
That's really good Cause.
See you, you like to gatherinformation.
See, that's you.
You fit in really well with theHarper's.
Just keep that in mind.
Just saying, catherine.
Catherine (21:07):
Andrew.
Andrew (21:08):
Yes.
Catherine (21:09):
What's up?
Andrew (21:10):
What is up, that's the
sky Fables.
Thank you, Fable Fable has theanswer to what is up here at the
ceiling.
Fable (21:19):
There it is, the sky is
above the ceiling.
We just can't see it.
Andrew (21:23):
That's right Somewhere
up there.
So tell us about cause youdon't you?
You you kind of got thrust intobeing Zan Rose.
Bumblebumble Sure did so.
So what do you know about ZanRose?
Let me, I'm going to bring upthe character sheet over here,
so I can, so I can see it aswell.
Let's see where is Zan Rose.
(21:43):
Zan Rose.
Catherine (21:44):
What do I know about
Zan Rose Bumblebumble, female
rock gnome.
Andrew (21:49):
Yes, monk, a monk
martial artist.
That's good, that's going to befun.
Catherine (21:55):
Of noble birth.
Andrew (21:57):
Yes.
Catherine (21:59):
So welcome in high
society, but also apparently
tend to stick my foot in mymouth because there's something
in my backstory that says by mywords and actions I often bring
shame to my family.
Andrew (22:11):
That is correct.
I know so.
If you, if you take a look atyour, your stats, your abilities
, at the top of your charactersheet, you'll notice that your
charisma score is an eight, yes, which is very low, which is
which is not very low, it'sbelow average Figure 10 is 10 is
(22:34):
average charisma.
So you, you have a slightdisadvantage on on your charisma
.
So you do, you tend to, youtend to stick your foot in your
mouth when, when saying thingsso, so, things like um, I'm
trying to say intimidation, you're, you're not very
intimidating.
Catherine (22:54):
No, well, I'm three
foot five Very true.
Andrew (22:58):
So even even height wise
, you're not intimidating.
Yeah, I've known some.
I've known some intimidatingrock gnomes in my life.
Catherine (23:04):
I weigh 29 pounds.
How intimidating can I be?
Fable (23:07):
I can throw you at people
.
I mean yeah flying rock gnomeattack Nice.
That'll have them scared.
Andrew (23:12):
Oh yeah.
Fable (23:13):
Like I was thinking like
a spinning fling, Like a
spinning fling.
Yeah, wind up in like a wind up.
Andrew (23:24):
Maybe, maybe, maybe tie
like a rope around the feet and
then and then swing and thenjust like head head first yeah,
that's not good, I can justit'll be loose Like, like a
lasso, not like grab her by theleg.
Fable (23:39):
She's 29 pounds.
Andrew (23:40):
It's a slipknot, it's
easy to get out of.
Fable (23:42):
I love that band.
Andrew (23:46):
What's that?
Fable (23:47):
Slipknot.
Andrew (23:48):
Oh, yes, slipknot, yeah,
you do.
Oh, that's, great.
Catherine (23:52):
Okay, well, I mean
and honestly, dow flinging me
wouldn't be the worst thing, because I have like a plus six
in acrobatics.
Fable (24:01):
Here we go.
We can make this work.
We can make this a move.
Catherine (24:05):
There's going to be
like some flips and some twists
and I'm just, I'm um wait.
Does never winter have Olympics.
Fable (24:14):
You should join the
Olympics.
Andrew (24:15):
There's.
There's going to be no gnomethrowing in the Olympics.
Catherine (24:20):
I was thinking more
about my floor routine.
Andrew (24:22):
Your floor routine
Rhythmic gymnastics.
Catherine (24:27):
I mean, I don't
really think that a gnome has
the appropriate look for rhythm, for rhythmic gymnastics, but I
feel like I could bang out a badass floor routine.
I bet you could.
I think you could.
Andrew (24:40):
I would like to see that
happen.
I will, I will.
I will make sure that happensin some way, shape or form
Awesome.
Fable (24:45):
I want to see it.
Andrew (24:46):
There, there is going to
be like a challenge instead of.
You can either battle thismonster or compete, nice Compete
in an Olympic style.
Challenge against, against amonster to do a a gymnastic
floor routine.
Catherine (25:05):
It's it's the
gymnastic version of a dance off
Like I think of this like, like.
Andrew (25:10):
I think of this more,
like, like Bill and Ted's, you
know when they, when they playyeah, battleship with the, with
the grim reaper, yeah, you sankmy battle ship.
Yep, so it's going to be likemaybe it's going to be like
maybe it's going to be likemaybe that'll be the ultimate
battle, like the end, like theultimate to win, like to defeat
(25:31):
the, the, the really big bad guy.
You're going to have to do agymnastic routine to save the
whole party.
Catherine (25:39):
Are we allowed to
know who the big bad guy is?
Andrew (25:41):
No.
Catherine (25:43):
See, that might be
the one thing I like about strud
is.
You just know it's strud fromthe very beginning it's strud.
Who's the bad guy, strud?
Andrew (25:54):
Yes, cool Strud is the
bad guy.
Catherine (25:58):
Um, what else should
we talk about with my character?
Andrew (26:01):
So, so what?
So a couple of things aboutyour, your character.
So let me go back into this andfigure out remember what what
we were talking about.
So, yeah, so you, you've gotthe noble background, which is,
which is great.
Um, oh, I love the thing aboutwe put in the personality trait.
(26:22):
So we picked the personality,we didn't pick it, but I mean
the whole thing about no onecould doubt, by looking at your
regal bearing, that you are acut above the unwashed masses.
Catherine (26:32):
So this is why I'm
putting my foot in my mouth.
The unwashed masses.
Andrew (26:37):
You dress really well
and I love this whole thing.
If you do me an injury, I willcrush you, ruin your name and
salt your fields Again.
You hold nothing back Right, which is amazing.
Catherine (26:54):
Except a grudge.
I do hold a grudge.
Andrew (26:57):
You do hold a grudge,
but that's great, because if
someone crosses you, you are notto be trifled with.
So remember that when you'replaying your character.
Catherine (27:11):
Yep.
Andrew (27:13):
So if somebody does
something to you to like offend
you, you take no prisoners.
Fable (27:18):
You can cut a bitch up,
that's right.
Andrew (27:21):
Yeah, exactly.
Thank you, fable.
Yes, but remember your ideals.
You're very independent, soremember that again when you're
interacting with the otherpeople in your party.
You're a very independentperson, so let's see how that
(27:42):
plays into it.
So you're gonna have to worktogether with your party to help
defeat to, you know, inencounters, helping defeat
enemies and things like that.
But you're also veryindependent.
So do you wanna be the leaderor do you wanna just Leroy
Jenkins it and run right intorun right into battle without
consulting your, youradventuring party about what to
(28:04):
do?
So think about how, think abouthow that independence plays
into Xanarosa's actions when,when you're playing, I mean, I
feel like I could hold you back.
Fable (28:15):
Do you like the size of
Perida?
Catherine (28:16):
Yeah, exactly, hold
me back, hold me back.
Andrew (28:22):
That's right and,
interestingly enough, bonds.
Nothing is more important thanthe other members of your family
, right?
So maybe this is your chosenfamily, so maybe you're fiercely
independent but also veryprotective of those.
So so maybe that comes intoplay, not necessarily to begin
with, so that could be a nicereally character arc for you,
that to begin with you're veryindependent and not necessarily
(28:47):
play nicely with others, but butas you, as this party kind of
gels together, maybe they becomeyour family because you're,
you're out on your own now.
So this is now your, your newfamily and with Vin Diesel
family.
Catherine (29:01):
No see, I was going.
Guardians of the Galaxy.
Andrew (29:03):
Guardians of the Galaxy,
because I feel like I'm maybe a
little like Drax.
Catherine (29:07):
Ah, like Drax
Interesting, you know like he's
kind of sticks his foot in hismouth cause he doesn't really
get it, but like very loyal tothe other Guardians.
But he'll put his life on theline for them.
So I feel like maybe that's ZenRose.
Andrew (29:21):
I like that.
I like that.
That works out well.
Catherine (29:25):
Zen Rose.
Andrew (29:26):
Zen Rose.
Catherine (29:27):
I have to practice
for the first time.
I have to yell Zen Rose, BattleBumble.
Andrew (29:32):
It's a lot.
Catherine (29:33):
Yeah, it is.
It's a long name.
Andrew (29:35):
You're going to get
clocked in the head before you
even get that out.
Fable (29:40):
It's like Zen Rose Bumble
whack.
Zen Rose Bumble blah.
Andrew (29:49):
You gotta, you gotta
come up with like a, like a
nickname or something.
Catherine (29:52):
I'm Z-Dog Z-Bem.
Andrew (29:54):
Z-Bem, z-bem, z-bem out
and just like, just go, go at it
, just something You're gonna.
You're gonna have to come upwith something shorter than
Bumble Bumble, cause that's justa mouthful.
I love Bumble.
Fable (30:05):
Bumble, you go and bam
Pleasure.
Andrew (30:08):
There you go, Something
like that, you got it.
You got a.
I'll workshop, Workshop, thatworkshop that you got.
You got a.
You got a week before we recordthe next episode, so you're
good.
Okay, Other other things onhere.
Let's say yeah, and, like yousaid, the flaw is, you know, by
my words and actions I oftenbring shame to my family, Right?
Catherine (30:27):
So In the same way
that Drax embarrasses the
Guardians Right.
Andrew (30:32):
Absolutely, and he, he
says a lot of things that get
people into trouble and I likethat.
I like that a lot, awesome.
So so have you thought anythingabout what your character is
doing in Never winter?
Catherine (30:50):
So I think what we
had talked about is that,
because she comes from a noblefamily, yes that the family has
property in Fandolin.
Andrew (31:00):
Oh, that's right.
Catherine (31:01):
I think we did talk
about that and she has to go and
I don't know, check in on theproperty for some reason.
So that's how she ends up there.
Andrew (31:12):
Yeah, I'm trying to
remember, let's see.
Catherine (31:16):
No, that's she has to
go to Bumble Bumble Estate in
the Fandolin region the BumbleBumble Estate.
Andrew (31:23):
Yeah, interesting.
Catherine (31:25):
Yeah, purveyors of
fine something.
Andrew (31:28):
Let's see.
So you're the.
You are the noble, yeah, so,yeah, so we talked about this.
Yeah, in the in the book saysyour family is based in
Neverwinter.
Yeah, but owns propertythroughout the Sword Coast
region, obviously, obviously, you recently inherited a cottage
in Fandolin and must inspectthe place before you decide to
(31:48):
keep or sell it.
Catherine (31:50):
Okay.
Andrew (31:52):
I'm not sure.
I'm not sure how I feel aboutthat.
Catherine (31:57):
So you don't know how
you feel about the Bumble,
bumble, b&b I.
Fable (32:01):
Love that.
You should do that.
Andrew (32:04):
Bumble, bumble, b&b.
Yeah, excellent, love it.
Write that down.
Catherine (32:09):
I won't forget that
alliteration Bumble, bumble.
Andrew (32:12):
B&B.
Love the enthusiasm.
Catherine (32:14):
Here's he loves the
enthusiasm, but not the idea.
Andrew (32:21):
I love.
I love everything about it.
I'm just the lead up to it.
Yeah, because remember therewas an established town here
before.
So Does does the Bumble Bumblefamily have previous claim to
some of the land?
So maybe maybe you found outthat someone is trying to build
(32:44):
on the land that belong to yourfamily, because they figured
that, because this is a newsettlement.
This is a new settlement, thatis that's kind of being built
here.
Catherine (32:56):
Yeah so.
Andrew (32:57):
So maybe you're going
down to try to Straighten out
whoever is on the land, to letthem know that it's really your
family's land and and you intendto build on it.
Catherine (33:08):
Right, the Bumble
Bumble B&B because that plays
back into my fiercelyindependent nature.
Fable (33:14):
Right where.
Catherine (33:14):
I've decided that I
want to kind of strike out on my
own family and open a B&B,because who wants I mean who
doesn't want a three-foot fivetwenty nine pound rock gnome as
their proprietress?
Andrew (33:28):
Absolutely, I completely
agree, I think.
I think it's a great story.
Catherine (33:33):
I mean she's, how
long do rock gnomes live?
Fable (33:36):
Because she's 55 350 to
500 years.
Catherine (33:39):
Yeah, see, so she's
55.
She's a young woman, wow.
Andrew (33:43):
Wow.
Catherine (33:44):
Thank you, fable.
Andrew (33:48):
She is.
Catherine (33:49):
Fable is very proud
of himself.
Andrew (33:51):
That was impressive,
like I think you're lying, but I
think I feel like you said it.
I feel like you said it wassuch confidence, oh, no, no, no,
I feel like it's.
I feel like it's just a personthat was like that says
something like so confidently.
I believe you like, but I'msaying like you just came off
like, like this is what it isslam.
Catherine (34:13):
Fanny made Fable
leave Wow.
Fable (34:21):
I can't work under these
conditions.
That's gonna be you screamingafter I Do.
I do a pimple, bam, and I walkaway.
Catherine (34:44):
I'm out of here.
After you pimple pop, you'regonna pimple bounce.
Fable (34:58):
We're gonna be a great
deal Uh-huh.
Andrew (35:02):
This is, this is a
nightmare.
I am, I am, I can't wait.
I can't wait to see the chaosthat ensues.
Catherine (35:09):
I'm gonna play my
character straight, like oh.
Andrew (35:13):
Oh no, I, I know you.
You're a Thespian, you are.
I am not a thespian you are, you, you're very good.
You see, you say you're not, but, like I know, you are never
been, you've never been, but butyou have the ability.
Catherine (35:28):
I suppose, and Fable
I mean Fable has a few really
key roles in the SpongeBobmusical.
Fable (35:35):
So yes, I, why'd you get
a?
Catherine (35:39):
bring that up because
it's very important to your
acting ability.
Fable (35:43):
I'm a cowboy fish, yeah,
and I'm gonna be holding a
Umbrella that looks like ajellyfish.
Catherine (35:49):
I don't think that's
key key and you get to sing some
of my favorite songs.
Andrew (35:53):
So so you're, you're
gonna be a cowboy fish.
Fable (35:56):
I'm gonna be a cowboy
fish and a jellyfish.
Andrew (35:59):
So what is your cowboy
fish?
Is backstory?
Does a cowboy fish have afamily?
Fable (36:04):
there's squirrel from
Texas.
Andrew (36:07):
Your cowboy fish is a
squirrel from Texas.
Fable (36:09):
That's.
They're technically squirrels.
Andrew (36:11):
They're technically so
in the script.
Fable (36:13):
They're squirrels okay up
Sandy in her rubber excellent
but I mean, we can't really takeoff the fish Clothes which are
just basically swimwear.
So right, slap some cowboyboots on and yee-haw nice.
Andrew (36:29):
So you're?
You're an underwater squirrel,so what so I?
Catherine (36:34):
Mean.
Andrew (36:34):
You've seen Sandy cheeks
right, I know Sandy cheeks I'm
very familiar with, withSpongeBob.
Catherine (36:38):
You sound like you
don't know what it is, and I'm
confused.
Andrew (36:41):
No, I'm just.
But I don't know what thecowboy squirrels, cowboy fish
are, so I'm trying to understandthis.
So so, are you a family OfUnderwater squirrels, like
what's the?
Fable (36:54):
I have no clue.
Catherine (36:55):
We are making fable
decidedly uncomfortable right
now.
Fable (37:02):
I want a bimple bounce
please.
Andrew (37:06):
So let's go back, let's
go back to your character, so,
so you're gonna, you're gonnahead, so so let's, let's, let's,
let's play around with this alittle bit, so, so, so,
ultimately, what is gonna be thelike, what's your, what's gonna
drive you to?
Because it's your decision.
I'm just, I'm just throwing outsome suggestions.
Catherine (37:24):
So, I feel like it's
your character.
Perhaps my family heard thatsomeone was trying to develop on
our land, but they don't carebecause they own property
everywhere and this right.
Is this far away?
Andrew (37:37):
It's, it's like a day's
journey.
Okay, it's not terribly far,but but Fandolin isn't like a
big bustling town, it's not.
Catherine (37:46):
So it's far enough
that they're like me.
We don't really care, right,and I, xanrho's Bumble Bumble,
care very much because I'm likeoh you know, this is my
opportunity to make something ofmyself, to separate myself a
Little bit from my family andand go out of my own right.
So I feel like perhaps thedream of opening the B&B.
(38:11):
She's going to make sure thatshe exerts her claim on the land
right and then, you know, starts thinking about building
her B&B and then Perhaps decidesthat traveling with this
unlikely troop of yes.
(38:32):
Yeah, will motley crew help hermeet some additional.
Andrew (38:39):
I mean there's no
slipknot, but come stay at her
B&B.
Catherine (38:42):
Mm-hmm you know a
range of people that you would
not have met otherwise becausethis could be.
This could be a way of gettingGetting treasure as a reward for
for helping and yeah, becausemaybe she wants to build
everything on her own ratherthan using her family's fortune
to do so.
Andrew (39:03):
Because there there will
be Just a heads up there there
will be a Threat to fandal initself, to the town and the
people of fandalin, okay, so.
Catherine (39:20):
And that threatens
the Bumble bumble.
Andrew (39:22):
B&B that could.
That could certainly threatenthe Bumble bumble B&B.
The.
Catherine (39:25):
BB, b&b.
You can't stand for that.
No, can't stand for that.
Andrew (39:29):
The BB, b&b the BB B&B.
That's a lot of bees.
See what I did there numerousbees.
Excellent.
So, okay, that's great.
So we we've got your stories asto what's gonna happen to the,
(39:51):
how you're getting from neverwinter to Fandalin, so this is
really exciting.
So there's gonna be.
This is this is really helpfulto me because because, knowing
your back stories, knowing whatyou want to work on this, this
will help me craft andIncorporate your characters and
your back stories into the, thestory itself.
(40:12):
So this is this is veryexciting for me.
Yeah, I gotta figure out.
I gotta figure out how to howto work in the B&B.
I have an idea.
I have a very, very strong ideafor For the B&B well then yes,
yes, yes.
(40:32):
So because in I want to look upthe map for Fandalin actually
pretty excited about the Bumble, bumble B&B as you should be.
Fable (40:47):
I think it's awesome.
Andrew (40:49):
Oh, here, wait, where's
the map?
Oh?
Catherine (40:53):
maybe I will need
plans for the B&B.
Fable (40:57):
I can do a mad floor plan
Nice.
That's what I'm doing.
Andrew (41:04):
Is it really?
I want to see.
I'm trying to bring up the mapof Fandalin so I can see.
I got the map of the whole, like the whole area, the sort
coast.
But okay, here's the map.
So I have.
Yeah, I've got a really goodidea for this.
Do you remember, did you playnow, you didn't play minds of
(41:26):
Fandelver with us, did you?
Okay, so in in Fandelver is theTresender or Tresender Manor
already, and it says more acastle than a house.
Tresender manor stands at theeast edge of town, on a low
hillside amid woods and thickets.
(41:48):
The ancient manor has long beenabandoned but its sellers have
been converted into a red brandstronghold.
If the characters investigatethis place, you may find some
interesting things going onthere.
So maybe you heard that the redbrands had been.
(42:10):
Maybe this tracender manner iswhat was in your family's
possession, that property andyou've heard that the red brands
are someone has taken, someonehas kind of squatted there and
(42:30):
you want to clear them out andconvert the manner into a, b and
B.
Yeah, clearly, maybe that wouldbe a good tie into the story I
like it.
Okay, so we'll play it that way.
You have to talk to Kat, causeI think Kat inherited a
(42:56):
tracender manner when we playedMinds of Van Delver, if I recall
correctly.
But anyway, so maybe that willbe your, maybe that's how old
that, maybe that'll be the hookinto the rest of the story.
So anyway, on the map I havelaid out, they gave a nice with
(43:21):
the Beetle and Grimm's VanDelver box.
There's a nice like canvasprinted map.
It's beautiful.
Yeah, it is nice, but this willshow you a lot of the locations
where you're going to end upover the course of the campaign.
Hi, deedee, one of the thingsthat I noticed on the map is
(43:43):
Icepire Peak, cause we playedwith Joe.
We played Dragon of IcepirePeak.
Catherine (43:51):
That's northeast of
the S word mountains.
Andrew (43:56):
S words.
S words For 600, alex, butanyway, yeah.
So initially what's going tohappen is your characters will
leave.
Some will work it to get allyour characters together and
(44:18):
your characters will leave neverwinter, so yeah, so your
characters will somehow probablyin a tavern.
So typical, probably in atavern your characters will come
together and make your way toVandalin and from there, you
(44:42):
know, hijinks will ensue.
I'm very excited.
So I don't know if I officiallytold both of you so.
So I was a little concerned.
I was a little concerned withthe campaign that there was only
three people in the party.
So, oh, I think you told me.
Yeah, I think I did.
I think I mentioned but Ihaven't mentioned anybody on the
(45:03):
podcast.
So I was, I was trying to get alittle bit of, a little bit of.
I was trying to come up with away of of kind of beefing up the
party a little bit, withouthaving to always like dumb down
the, the encounters for you, like Reduce the amount of
enemies you're fighting, so totry to make it more interesting
that way.
(45:25):
There are, I think, in Tasha'sCauldron of everything.
There are rules for creatingand having a side kick kick, and
I sort of follow those rules.
But I kind of homebrewed a sidekick because James, as
Catherine knows I think Fable, you've seen James's dog, callie,
(45:48):
the beautiful German shepherdso I homebrewed a dire wolf
character that will be James'sIquium.
Iquium is his character, thewhat is that?
A warlock, a human warlock?
I believe Iquium is a humanwarlock, so 20 years old, 20
(46:12):
year old, human warlock, thankyou.
So, james, james characterIquium is going to have a dire
wolf sidekick, slash, pet slashcompanion named Callie, who
eerily looks like his Germanshepherd.
So this will this will help theparty out greatly in your your
(46:35):
encounters, when you'reencountering the goblins and
other things along the way.
Catherine (46:41):
Is the dog going to
eat me?
I'm very small.
Fable (46:45):
I can bite him off Maybe.
Andrew (46:50):
The dog is at least
twice your size.
Catherine (46:53):
Is the dog going to
eat me?
I'm very small.
Andrew (46:56):
The dog is not, I will
hang on.
Well, you don't have your dice,do you?
Catherine (47:05):
They're in the living
room, let me get them.
Andrew (47:08):
Yeah, get your dice.
Yeah, no, don't, don't do it,I'm I'm going to give you some
dice.
Catherine (47:13):
Fable, would you grab
my dice there on?
There's two boxes on the coffeetable in the living room.
Andrew (47:18):
Thank you, there are
many boxes on the coffee table.
Catherine (47:20):
There's two boxes
that are mine on the coffee
table.
Andrew (47:24):
I say All right, so
let's see.
So where's Zen Rose?
Catherine (47:31):
Okay, One of my
rolling.
Andrew (47:38):
So you need your d 20
for this.
Let's do an animal handlingcheck.
Catherine (47:42):
Okay.
Andrew (47:44):
See, if the dog eats you
, the dire wolf eats you 12.
But you get a plus one.
Catherine (47:49):
So 13.
Andrew (47:50):
And I'm going to use
some new dice to roll.
I'm going to roll for Calliethe Direwolf Hang on.
I think the dog might eat you.
Hang on.
(48:10):
I got to get to extras, callie, okay, so, oh, oh.
Well, that's so.
What is that?
Wisdom?
Only plus one.
That's a plus one.
So All right, so I'm going toroll against.
(48:31):
So you have a 13?
.
Catherine (48:33):
Yes.
Andrew (48:34):
Well, Callie rolled a
nat one.
Fable (48:39):
Oh so.
Catherine (48:42):
The dog's not going
to eat me.
The dog's not going to eat me.
Andrew (48:46):
The dog kind of
unwittingly puts its mouth like
on the top of your head anddoesn't eat you, just kind of
slobbers all over you.
But the dog is very happy tomeet you.
So Excellent, the Direwolf willnot eat you and besides the
(49:11):
Callie is lawful good.
So so Callie is not an, not anenemy.
This is the first time you'remeeting Callie, so Interesting,
I want to see.
They don't have like adescription of.
(49:33):
They say it's a large, it's afirst level large beast.
Catherine (49:42):
By the way.
Andrew (49:43):
Yes.
Catherine (49:44):
So I believe Fable
was 100% correct on the average
lifespan of a rock gnome.
Andrew (49:50):
I believed Fable.
I was just saying, I was justsaying it, just.
It just reminded me of somebodythat says, like, with such
confidence that like has no ideawhat they're talking about.
But I know Fable does.
So that's, I trust Fable, allright, so we've, we've
established two of ourcharacters, which is great.
We'll, we'll, we'll, have Jamesdo a little bit of an
(50:11):
introduction next week Before wedo the actual play.
Get to know, get to know Iquium, iquium for a dream, and and
then we'll, we'll, go into theactual, the actual play.
So, do you have, do you twohave any questions or anything
before before we kick off nextweek?
(50:32):
No, you feel you feel goodabout your characters.
Catherine, I'm more concernedabout you because, yeah, because
you don't, you don't, you'renot, you're not really a D&D
player, so you've played someone shots and things like that.
So, yeah, you don't know whatyou don't know, but you've got
me, you've got James.
Catherine (50:51):
This podcast is for
beginners.
I'm a beginner.
Andrew (50:54):
You are a beginner, you,
you are the like, the perfect
person for this podcast, becauseI'm the perfect guinea pig.
I was going to say lab rat.
Lab rat, guinea pig, you name it.
Yeah, That'll be you.
It'll be fun.
Yeah, it'll be an adventure.
Speaking of an adventure, I'lltalk more about it next week,
(51:16):
but I am, I am super excited.
So when I was, when we were atPAX Unplugged, I stumbled upon
there's an there's a company outthere that develops an app
called Pocket Bard, and PocketBard is absolutely fantastic.
It's a great tool for addingenvironmental sounds, music to
(51:38):
to your campaign.
And there's there's all sortsof settings town cities, dark
streets, forests, ancient groves, dungeons, the dungeon layer,
mountains, swamps, maelstroms, merchants Like it's just really
cool.
So like, let's look at themerchant setting, let's let's go
into a shop and what's the ohcool, and you can.
(52:09):
You can add things like littletension, maybe it's a little
rainy outside.
Catherine (52:25):
And here's a blowing
fables find.
Fable (52:28):
So cool.
Andrew (52:32):
And then, and then.
Fable (52:38):
I'm going to do that to
me.
Andrew (52:41):
Jump scare.
It worked, didn't it?
But then you can add, thenthey've got.
They've got music you can addover, and you can change the
intensity of all these sounds,so, but then you can add the
music over it.
It's an amazing app, and so youcan just have this kind of
(53:09):
playing in the background as yougo along.
Catherine (53:12):
Did they have music
for my floor routine?
Fable (53:15):
Yes.
Andrew (53:17):
That would, that would
be.
Catherine (53:22):
Yeah, exactly.
Andrew (53:27):
If you could only see
the floor, it's amazing.
It's an amazing floor floorroutine.
We've got like synchronizedfloor routines on both sides of
the table here.
This is amazing.
Catherine (53:37):
I think how cool we
would look.
We'd look so cool, dallas, sixfoot five.
I'm three foot five.
We're side by side.
Andrew (53:45):
Yes, tumbling, yes,
totally.
Oh, you know what would bereally cool.
I'm just thinking about thisDow, you've got horns, you got a
piece of elastic.
Fable (53:59):
Oh my God, built in
slingshot, slingshot slingshot
Zan Rose.
Catherine (54:06):
Yes.
That would be, that would betremendous, and we will practice
to see how many flips I can do.
Fable (54:14):
You can get some good
airtime.
Andrew (54:15):
That'll be the
acrobatics check Exactly.
We'll fling you, fling youright into battle.
Catherine (54:21):
Nice, oh, that'll be
fun.
Fable (54:23):
We're gonna have a great
time, oh yeah.
Andrew (54:27):
Absolutely, I'm
tremendously excited.
So, anyway, very excited aboutare you two excited for next
week?
Like to actually, like, I knowyou're super excited because
you've been itching to play somemore D&D, so now, so you're
your, your typical, your usualD&D group plays it pretty fast
(54:48):
and loose with the rules.
So yeah, so you're getting moreof a traditional D&D campaign.
Fable (54:57):
Nervous.
Andrew (54:58):
Nervous.
Fable (54:58):
Probably gonna screw up
because we very loosely, I don't
know anything.
So you'll be yeah.
Andrew (55:05):
So this is this is gonna
be.
This is gonna be a bigadventure for everybody.
Fable (55:07):
We also only play like
three times a year for 10 hours
straight, so there's somedifferences.
Andrew (55:12):
Yes, very true.
So yeah, we'll probably playfor like five or six hours on
Saturday.
Catherine (55:19):
Are you serious?
Fable (55:22):
I was ready.
Andrew (55:24):
I know Fable's like yes,
yeah, there's like what the
hell?
Catherine (55:28):
I married into this.
Andrew (55:31):
For better or for worse.
Oh my god.
Catherine (55:33):
Okay, no, I mean I'm
excited, I think it'll be fun.
Andrew (55:38):
I mean.
Catherine (55:38):
Fable and James are
two of my favorite people, so,
yeah, it works out well.
Andrew (55:42):
I think it's gonna be a
lot, of, a lot of fun.
I hope so.
I am.
I am going to do my best as aDM oh, so cute.
I will do my absolute best as aDM to to make this fun for you
guys.
I want you to have your BumbleBumble B and B and I want you to
(56:04):
find Fable.
Whatever you're looking for, whatever this is for your, your
moon goddess.
So I hope you accomplish all ofyour goals.
I hope so and remind me when weget there, when, when, when you
eventually get your B and B.
Catherine (56:23):
Yeah.
Andrew (56:24):
So just just remind me
of that fact, because if you do
establish the B and B, yeah, hopefully we will probably roll
to see, like how successful itis.
So I want, I want to likeincorporate all that into the
game.
So how many guests you have atany given time because you're
not gonna, you're not gonna bethere.
Catherine (56:45):
I'm gonna need to
find somebody to run it.
Andrew (56:47):
So you're definitely
gonna have to there.
There's all sorts of NPCs inthe town and I may I may create
one specifically for you to tohire.
I may find it find an NPC foryou so you can hire them and
employ them.
So you're gonna have to paysalary to them and then and get
the income.
(57:07):
So hopefully that'll help fundsome of your adventuring.
Catherine (57:11):
Can you also make
sure that that NPC is really
good at cooking and likes toclean and is pleasant?
Because I'm not gonna be sopleasant, so I need someone
pleasant in the B and B.
Andrew (57:20):
Why won't you be
pleasant?
Catherine (57:22):
because, like my,
personality is very
straightforward and I'm gonnasay stupid stuff.
Andrew (57:25):
Yeah.
Catherine (57:26):
Potentially offend
people.
Andrew (57:27):
Excellent.
So, everybody, please listen innext week when we when we
launch the actual play of this.
So what we'll do is we'll playthrough a bunch of the adventure
next week.
The following week we are goingto maybe Fable will come back,
I think the following week iswhen we're going to talk about
(57:48):
what happened.
We'll do kind of a debrief andanalysis of a debrief and
analysis of what happened, andthen we'll also be cooking.
So there we will have our foodsegment.
So we have we have the heroesfeast cookbook.
So if you, if you've watchedthe D&D TV channel now they they
(58:10):
have a show called Heroes Feastwhere they they cook recipes
from there.
But we're gonna use that book.
We're gonna use what's theother one, recipes from the
multiverse or something aboutthat.
We also have the one you got me, the critical role, the
critical role cookbook.
So we've got three differentcookbooks we can choose from.
So we're gonna have to figureout.
(58:31):
Maybe we'll make one or twothings from from all those and
then and try them out, and sowe'll we'll eat some food and
talk to you and have have a goodtime.
Excellent, thank you both somuch for being here today.
This was, this was lovely, lovely to have you here.
Catherine (58:47):
Thank you for having
us.
I live here.
Andrew (58:49):
You live here, so it's
kind of like so disfable mostly
yeah usually.
Catherine (58:53):
I was here, you were
just here.
Andrew (58:56):
So it's like why come on
the podcast?
So anyway, all right.
So next week, yes, actual playwill dive into Fandelaver and
below the shattered obelisk.
Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.

Fable (59:11):

Andrew (59:12):
