Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everyone, it's James Long.
Do me a favor and grab yourBible and a journal and turn to
Psalm 19.
We're going to be looking atPsalm 19 today.
Psalm 19 invites us to beholdthe majesty of God through the
beauty of creation and clarityof his word.
Now, this psalm helps us to seethat true transformation comes

(00:20):
when divine revelation moves usfrom our ears to our hearts,
leading us to awe, repentanceand worship.
Well, the first section we'llbe looking at today is the God
who speaks through the skies andthrough scripture.
Psalm 19 is a beautiful symphonyof divine revelation.
David begins by lifting oureyes to the heavens, where

(00:42):
nature silently but powerfullyproclaims the glory of the
Creator.
Then, just as suddenly, hedraws our attention downward to
the pages of sacred scripture, where the character and will of
God are fully unveiled.
Now, by the end, the psalmistis on his knees, praying not
only to understand thisrevelation but to be changed by

(01:03):
it.
This moment of grandeur of theskies, to the precision of God's
word, to humility of therepentant heart, gives Psalm 19
a remarkable power.
It invites us not merely toadmire God, but to know him
personally, not merely to heartruth, but to be transformed by
it.
It is both a call to worshipand a call to surrender the God

(01:26):
who is there.
Verse 1 says this the heavensdeclare the glory of God and the
skies above proclaim hishandiwork.
From the sunrise to the sunset, the created world shouts God's
grandeur.
This is not a whisper, but aproclamation, though without
audible words.
David tells us that day afterday and night after night,

(01:48):
creation pours out speech andknowledge.
It's a universal languageunderstood by all people in all
places.
If only they would listen.
The sun is given specialattention.
It rises like a bridegroom, bursting from his chamber, eager
and strong.
Its path stretches across theskies with joy and power,

(02:08):
touching every inch of the worldwith heat and light.
Nothing escapes its reach andnothing escapes the God who
placed it there.
Nature's message is persistent, consistent and universal.
It tells us that there is a Godwho is glorious, powerful and
faithful.
But while creation revealsGod's existence, it does not

(02:28):
tell us how to be right with Him.
For that we need a clearervoice, one that speaks not just
to our senses but to our soul.
The light of the Word, the Godwho is near David, transitions
abruptly but intentionally fromcreation to scripture.
Watch what it says in verse 7.
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.

(02:50):
Now, while creation proclaimsthe word, explains the sky
announces God's glory, thescriptures unveil his character
and his will.
Using six titles for God's wordlaw, testimonies, precepts,
commandments, fear and rulesDavid gives a panoramic view of

(03:11):
the scripture's nature and itseffects.
Each title is paired with adescription Perfect, sure, right
, pure, clean, perfect, true anda result reviving the soul,
making wise the simple, rejoicing the heart,
enlightening the eyes, enduringforever, righteous altogether.

(03:34):
The Word of God is not only arule book but a life-giving
revelation.
It brings clarity to ourconfusion, conviction to our
conscience and joy to our hearts.
It is not only warning usagainst sin, but it is showing
us a path of righteousness.
And as David reflects, he findsthat this word is not only
authoritative and reliable, it'sdesirable.

(03:57):
Watch what he says in verse 10.
He says more to be desired arethey than gold?
And then he says a little bitlater sweeter also than honey
and the drippings of thehoneycomb.
God's word is our true treasureand our deepest delight the God
who saves and sanctifies.
But David doesn't stop atadmiration.
Revelation demands a responseand as he stands before the

(04:19):
brightness of God's truth, davidbecomes deeply aware of his own
darkness.
Watch what he says in verses 12and 13.
Who can discern his error?
Declare me innocent from hiddenfaults.
Keep back your servant alsofrom presumptuous sins.
Now, these words are nottheoretical, they're personal.
David recognizes that sin isdeeper than he realizes.

(04:41):
He confesses sins of ignorance, hidden faults, sins of
arrogance, presumptuous sins andthe threat of life-dominating
sins.
Let them not have dominion overme.
He prays for forgiveness, cleansing and the power to walk
in blamelessness.
And he concludes with a pleathat should be the daily prayer
of every Christian Let the wordsof my mouth and the meditations

(05:05):
of my heart be acceptable inyour sight, o Lord, my rock and
my redeemer.
Verse 14.
God is not only the creator andlawgiver, he is the redeemer.
The one who reveals is the onewho also rescues.
In Christ, the word was madeflesh and we find the fullness
of God's revelation and hope inour redemption.

(05:28):
Now let's look at some doctrinaltakeaways.
First, we see revelation.
God revealed himself throughgeneral nature and special
scripture.
Revelation both pointing to hisglory and to our accountability
.
Number two sanctification.
God's word doesn't merelyinform us, it transforms us,

(05:48):
making the simple wise and thesinner clean.
Number three the doctrine ofsin.
Sin is not always obvious.
It includes hidden,presumptuous and life-dominating
patterns.
Number four justificationDavid's cry for innocence
anticipates the gospel truththat God declares us righteous

(06:10):
through Christ.
And number five the sufficiencyof scripture.
God's word is perfect, trustworthy and enduring enough
for every soul to seek him.
Now let's take that doctrineand make it practical, practical
theology, applying Psalm 19 toyour life.
Now, if you're feeling distantfrom God, start with looking up.

(06:31):
Spend five quiet minutes innature, no phone, no music, just
you in the sky, and ask whomade this.
Then open the scriptures andask what does he want me to know
?
God's creation will humble you.
His word will heal you, but itwill also expose you.
When you open your Bible andfind yourself squirming under

(06:53):
conviction, remember the wordsearching light is meant to lead
you to the Savior.
If you're trapped in a cycle ofsin, especially sins of the
willful and repetitive kind, runto your Redeemer, confess, Cry
out.
Ask God to keep you from sin'sdomination.
He's not only strong enough toforgive you, he's strong enough

(07:14):
to change you.
Are your words and meditationspleasing to God?
Ask yourself today what have Isaid to others and to myself
that reveals my heart?
Ask the Holy Spirit to purifynot just your behavior but your
desires.
Well, let's reflect and respond.
Number one how have youpersonally experienced the

(07:35):
revelation of God throughcreation?
Number two when was the lasttime God's word revived your
soul?
Number three are there hiddenfaults in your life that you
need to bring to the light?
Number four what presumptuousor life-dominating sins do you
need freedom from?

(07:56):
Number five how do youcurrently treat the Bible More
like duty or delight?
Number six in what ways can youmake God's word more central in
your daily life?
And number seven what would itlook like for your words and

(08:17):
meditations to be acceptablebefore God this week?
Well, let's pray.
Father, thank you for revealingyourself through the power of
your word.
And Lord Jesus, thank you somuch for being the fulfillment
of every promise and the anchorin every storm.
And Holy Spirit, guide us intodeeper trust, lasting peace and
transforming hope, and teach usto walk in the truth of this

(08:41):
psalm today.
In Jesus' name, we pray Amen.
In Jesus' name, we pray Amen.
Well, are you struggling withguilt or shame, or uncertainty?
Do me a favor, remind yourselfof this passage in Psalm 19.
God's word reveals his voice, but it also points you to his
Savior.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
