What does it mean to be truly rich? Drawing from a cherished childhood memory of reading "Apples of Gold" with my mother in a women's shelter, I share a timeless quote that has shaped my philosophy on wealth and abundance: "The person is the richest whose pleasures are cheapest."

This isn't about settling for less or denying yourself quality. Rather, it's recognizing that profound joy often comes from experiences that cost nothing at all—fresh air, birdsong, laughing with loved ones, or simply savoring a cup of tea without distraction. Those who find pleasure in these simple gifts possess a wealth that no bank account can measure.

And, as a special bonus, I want to give you FREE access to my signature course, Slay Your Year (usually $997)! All you have to do is:

  • Leave a review of this podcast.
  • Email a screenshot of your review to info@susie-moore.com

Simple as that!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
You know one of my favoritequotes growing up was in this
book me and my mom used to read, called Apples of Gold, which we
would read actually living in awomen's shelter.

(00:20):
This book was incredible.
I actually tried to find one onAmazon in recent years and I do
have a copy of Apples of Gold, but I don't think it's the same
one.
Anyone heard of it Apples ofGold.
It's really, really old and itwas a bit of a crumbly old book
even back then.
But anyway, I want to share withyou this quotation that my mom

(00:41):
and I loved and we'd repeatoften, and then explore it a bit
with you today.
Okay, the quote was this theman is the richest whose
pleasures are cheapest.
So think about that the personis the richest.
The richest person is theperson whose pleasures are
cheapest.
I love it because it doesn'tmean the person who's the rich

(01:05):
doesn't have nice things, or theperson who's rich can't afford
that designer stuff, so they'llhave the not so nice stuff and
they're just going to be happywith that.
No, it doesn't mean that at all.
It means that the person whofinds pleasure in simple things
like fresh air bird singing, thesmell of coffee laughing with
their kids looking at the moon,a simple walk outside.

(01:32):
Those of us who find pleasure insimple things, often these
things are completely free.
This makes us rich, and, to me,a beautiful life, a rich life,
is a simple life, isn't it?
Who wants a complicated life?
Who wants a stressed out life?
Who wants a life with a millionthings going on all the time so

(01:52):
we can't relax?
It's not to say let's not bebusy or let's not create or
let's take action.
Those things are very beautifultoo, but I love the simplicity
of this and I think about wealth, truly, yeah, how do I feel?
Do I have this sense of peaceand presence and consciousness?
This is how we regret proof ourlives.
My friends, do you takepleasure in simple things, or I

(02:17):

Take a nap if you're tired.
You don't need another planner.
Just take a simple step forward.
Say no to the things that youwant to say no to.
Don't live out of obligation.

(02:38):
Keep things simple.
The fancy things aren't alwaysbetter.
Get the ones that you love.
I actually hate having lots ofthings in my home.
I'm not materialistic.
I don't like having lots ofpossessions, and the fancy stuff
isn't always better when itcomes to even day-to-day tasks.

(02:59):
Can you let it be easy?
Can you let it just be simple?
Enjoy your tea.
