SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Welcome to Let It Be
Easy with Susie Moore.
Okay, my friends, I've beenreading more of Marcus Aurelius'
Meditations, and I wanted toread you a passage from page
137, if you've got the leatherbound copy.
(00:22):
Here is what he says aboutliving a good life.
How about that?
To live a good life.
My gosh, shouldn't this be inthe manual?
We all get at birth.
Here is what he has to say.
We have the potential for it.
If we can learn to beindifferent to what makes no
(00:43):
difference.
This is how we learn by lookingat each thing, both the parts
and the whole.
Keeping in mind that none ofthem can dictate how we perceive
it.
They don't impose themselves onus.
They hover before us unmoving.
It is we who generate thejudgments, inscribing them on
(01:06):
ourselves.
If you're in self-coachingsociety, we talk about this a
lot, right?
There's the circumstances,there's the stuff that's
happening, and then there is themeaning that we assign.
Aurelius here says the judgmentswe assign.
We inscribe them on ourselves.
And we don't have to.
We could leave the page blank.
(01:27):
And if a mark slips through, erase it instantly.
Remember how brief is theattentiveness required, and then
our lives will end.
And why is it so hard whenthings go against you?
If it's imposed by nature, accept it gladly and stop
fighting.
And if not, work out what yourown nature requires and aim at
(01:52):
that, even if it brings you noglory.
None of us is forbidden topursue our own good.
My gosh, to live a good life, weall have the potential for it.
If we can learn to beindifferent to what makes no
difference.
Dare I say social media?
(02:13):
Dare I say what other peoplethink?
Dare I think, dare I say theapproval of that stranger that
you seem to care about becausewe've all cared about that
random stranger online or maybein our work at our office
somewhere?
Do we have to always ascribemeaning?
Do we always need to have ajudgment?
Or can we let so much before usjust hover as a blank page,
(02:34):
focusing on what we can control?
None of us is forbidden topursue our own good.
Can we roll with life?
Can we dance with life?
Can we focus on what matters?
Can we let what will be will bethe stuff we have zero control
over?
And can we just focus what onwhat our own nature requires?
(03:03):
Dare I say this is your manualfor a peaceful and fulfilling
life.
Until tomorrow, my friends, somuch love and ease.
