Why do so many creative, ambitious people struggle to finish what they start? Discovering the answer might transform your approach to every project you undertake.

This episode dives deep into the psychology behind our tendency to abandon projects before completion. We explore how starting something new often feels exciting and full of possibility, while the vulnerability of finishing exposes us to potential criticism and rejection. That pattern of constant pivoting to new ideas—which seems like creativity or adaptability—might actually be a sophisticated form of self-protection.

And, as a special FREE bonus, I want to give you my "6 Journal Prompts To Coach Yourself To A Better Life In 6 Days!"

These prompts are perfect if you:

🎯 Feel lost in direction.

📉 Battle feelings of inadequacy or constant comparison.

😕 Experience restlessness.

📆 Find goal-setting or motivation challenging.

😐 Simply feel 'meh'.

Designed to dismantle obstacles, reshape your mindset, and cement unwavering confidence, these prompts are scarce gems in a sea of generic advice. 🚧🧠

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
Do you know anybody?
Maybe it's you, maybe it'ssomebody close to you in your
life, or someone that you justobserve at work, or someone who
you've just maybe known for along time?

(00:21):
Is there anyone in your worldwho simply isn't a finisher?
Maybe they're really creative, maybe they start lots of things,
maybe they kick off a projectwith great enthusiasm but before
you even kind of get to thatmessy middle stage, it's already
abandoned, it's already in therear view mirror.

(00:41):
We've started something new, orthis person that you're
observing has started somethingnew.
I had a friend like this yearsago.
We were friends for years andpretty close and she was
wonderful, extremely creative.
She had a lot of ideas.
She was so funny.
The way that her brain worked Ialways thought was so cool and
impressive and dynamic.

(01:04):
But I did notice as time passedthat I don't want to say nothing
, but very few things.
Nothing that I can even recallactually met a finish line, and
over time I began to observethat as a pattern.
Sometimes I think, oh well, someone's just really creative,

(01:24):
or even I'm creative and I wantto move in this direction.
That's boring to me now.
And this, this is a cooleropportunity, or this one lights
me up more, or this, this, thisyou know I'm pointing at all the
directions outside of me.
If this is you, or if this issomeone that you observe in your
life, this is someone that youobserve in your life, can we

(01:47):
take a pause and a breath andconsider something?
Often we mentally check outbefore something can go wrong.
Right, sometimes it is justnatural excitement and, look,
not everything is meant to cometo fruition, not everything is
meant to be finished.
Sometimes you take on a project, you learn something and you
move forward, and sometimes thatproject does come to completion

(02:13):
and it's wonderful.
But if you notice a lot ofthings that aren't coming to a
gorgeous end, that don't allowyou to go, yep, putting a wrap
on that bow, complete, done.
Sometimes this is a sneaky formof self-protection, because we
can't get rejected or criticizedfor something that isn't
finished.
If it's still open, if it'sstill up in the air, we can

(02:34):
still improve it, there's stillwork to do.
But once something is, yeah, complete, the book is finished,
the project is wrapped, thecourse is ready to sell.
It's so easy to have thispattern once we look back, or to
observe this pattern of alwaystaking a bit of an emergency
exit disguised as something new,a new project, a new

(02:55):
opportunity, something else thatis exciting.
I can tell you that I deeplyforgive myself and trust myself
when I want to stop doingsomething.
If I know something no longerhas any passion in it for me, I
will gladly, without guilt, hangit up, say goodbye.

(03:18):
But the reason that I take onprojects consciously in the
first place is because I amloyal to the unseen reality of
the ending.
Think about that.
So just say, I'm working on abook right now.
I am loyal to what that book is, what my vision for it is and
the fact that I feel called tocreate it at this time.
I am loyal to a future thatisn't here yet.
I'm not checking out.

(03:38):
Before anything can go wrong, Idon't want to take that
emergency exit.
I do not want this to be apattern in my life, because I
honor what's important to me andwhat's important to me.
My goal is more important thanmy sensitivity.
It's more important than thatsneaky self-protection mechanism

(04:01):
that can kick in that stops usfrom fully showing up.
What about you?
Are you loyal to the unseenreality of your dream or are you
loyal to feeling safe andsecure?
Are you loyal to this patternof not wanting to show up fully
because you're afraid of notwanting to show up fully because

(04:23):
you're afraid?
And when you ponder this, whenyou think about this, even
momentarily today, can youdecide which one of these two
options is good enough for yourlife?
Until tomorrow, my friends, somuch love and ease.

(04:47):
