What if your most liberating move isn’t winning at the roles you were handed, but failing at them on purpose? We open the door to that daring idea with a powerful reading from Liz Gilbert’s Letters from Love and a heartfelt nod to Anita Moorjani’s near-death wisdom about what truly matters. The theme is simple and brave: approval is a moving target that keeps you small, while failure—chosen consciously and compassionately—can be the catalyst that brings you back to your wild heart.

SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Welcome to Let It Be Easy with Susie Moore.
I absolutely love this idea atfailing spectacularly at the
thing you want.

(00:20):
Fail at it.
Liberation lives here.
Okay, I'm gonna read an excerptfrom Liz Gilbert's Letters from
Love.
You can check them out onSubstack.
I'm a subscriber.
I think it's just$5 a month thatyou pay.
And weekly she releases lettersthat she writes with a special
guest.
This week it was Anita Morjani, who's been on the podcast.

(00:43):
Please, I beseech you.
Watch her interview.
It was incredible.
Her story is incredible.
She effectively died and cameback to life and tells the tale
of what happened on the otherside.
She wrote a best-selling bookcalled Dying to Be Me from being
riddled with cancer over 20years ago.

(01:07):
And oh my gosh, you know, I'mnot going to give anything away.
Check out the interview withAnita Morjani and check out her
book, Dying to Be Me.
But yesterday I was at my pool, hello, Miami, and I was reading
Letters from Love from LizGilbert.
And the topic was around peoplepleasing, right?
Or seeking approval from others.
And she shares in this letterthat she loves being alone.

(01:29):
She loves it when no one knowswhere she is.
She loves that feeling offreedom.
And I wanted to read you an exup today because it's powerful,
it's beautiful, and it mightjust give you this sense of, oh
my gosh, what is it that I couldbe experiencing if the approval
of others, the love from others, the acceptance of others wasn't

(01:52):
the goal?
Here's what Liz Gilbert says.
Fail at it, my love.
Fail at all of those rolesyou're supposed to fulfill.
Every one of them.
Spectacularly.
She speaks about failing as awife, as not becoming a mother,
as not being a dutiful woman.

(02:12):
She said this.
Every culture, every family inthe world admires an obedient,
subservient, dutiful woman.
The world wants you locked in aset of responsibilities that are
limited and limiting.
Small, tight, and wrought withself-sacrifice.
But whenever you try to do that, whenever you try to get their

(02:35):
approval, you nearly die.
Every single time.
It isn't safe for you to seekthe approval of those who would
confine you to nothing but tiny,ill-fitting roles and then judge
you on how poorly you are atplaying them.
It never was.
Let me repeat, fail at it.

(02:56):
Fail at all of those roles, every one of them,
spectacularly.
Because here's the thing, theystill won't approve of you.
No matter what you do, theystill won't approve of you.
They'll just be watching andwaiting for you to make the next
mistake.
So fail immediately and hard.
Be a disaster.

(03:16):
It's the agent of yourliberation.
And once everyone is doneshaking their heads at you, then
you are free to be forgotten andto come back to the wilderness
of your own hearts and theunfettered jungle of your own
imagination.
Which is where you found us, thespirit of unconditional love.
Not in careful obedience, but ina reckless, primal howl of

(03:40):
longing in a dark night, in adark night of the soul, when
once again you were absolutelyalone.
That's where you heard our voicefrom the f for the first time.
This is where you found thehighest, most powerful love in
your blazing, holy solitude.
Remember what Martha Beck, alsoa Let It Be Easy podcast guest

(04:02):
twice taught you?
True love liberates the beloved.
This is our voice, the voice ofunconditional love, trying to
liberate you even more.
For you are our beloved.
If you think we want anythingfor you more than what we utter,

(04:22):
the boundaryless freedom of yourspirit, then you don't know who
you're talking to.
And who you're talking to islove.
True love.
Your love, our love, the love.
Okay, little beast, that's all.
Do whatever you want today.
Do whatever you want.

(04:44):
Be true to your freedom.
We're right here with you, eating it up like candy.
My friends, what if failing atthe thing that you want was the
true agent of your liberation?
Would you hold back?
