Why do we fear something as natural and inevitable as change? In this thoughtful exploration, I dive deep into our complicated relationship with life's transitions and offer a refreshing perspective on embracing uncertainty.

Most of us instinctively resist change because our brains equate the familiar with safety. Drawing from my personal experience in tech startups going through acquisitions, I share how organizations and individuals alike struggle with the anxiety of "what happens next." But what if we're looking at change all wrong?

And, as a special bonus, I want to give you FREE access to my signature course, Slay Your Year (usually $997)! All you have to do is:

  • Leave a review of this podcast.
  • Email a screenshot of your review to info@susie-moore.com

Simple as that!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
How do you feel about change?
We've spoken about change onthe podcast before.
I know it is a scary topic fora lot of people.
Human beings, we are not wiredfor change because change

(00:27):
doesn't feel like security, itdoesn't feel like safety, and so
our brains like the familiar,we like the comfortable, because
we feel like, oh, at least thisisn't threatening, and then
change could almost feel like anenemy.
It could feel like it's againstus.
We can resist it, but what ifwe did something else?

(00:49):
What if we looked at it in acompletely different way?
Now I recently spoke to a friendof mine and his team.
He and I were colleagues when Iwas in the tech sector, and
he's still in that world, whichis wonderful and his team have
gone through an exit, meaningthey've been purchased by a big

(01:09):
company.
It's all public, it's all outthere.
It's very exciting, but thishas happened to me before too in
my career going through an exit, being purchased by a big
organization, a startup that Iloved, being essentially
swallowed up into a biggerorganization.
There are a lot of questions, there's fear, there's.

(01:30):
You know what's going to happento my job?
Is it safe?
What's it going to be likethere?
What are the?
You know, what are these peoplelike?
Et cetera, et cetera.
Right, the uncertainty canscare us, and I just want to
share a couple of thoughts thatI shared with that team that can
be useful for you today.
Whatever it is you're goingthrough, that involves a

(01:50):
transition, and the reality isthis, my friends.
This is why this episode isrelevant for anybody.
Change is constant and daily, and there is nothing that we can
do about it.
Right?
I'm recording this.
It's spring, or it's about tobe spring here in the Northern

(02:14):
Hemisphere, and springhighlights on its own the very
cyclical nature of reality ofthe world.
Right, the tree isn't goingback to its old leaves.
Right, the leaves on the groundsaying come back.
It was really cool before.
I like how we used to vibe.

(02:35):
I don't like what's happeningto me now.
Change is natural andappropriate, and nature reveals
this to us the best.
I want to state that not onlyis change appropriate and
natural, it's always happening.
It's the one thing that'sguaranteed, but when we can

(02:55):
dance with it, when we canaccept it, when we can
understand that things stayingoutside in the external world
isn't the safety net right.
So the job, the team, the title, the relationship, the
apartment, whatever it is,that's not the safety net.
You are, your skills, yourexperience, everything that's

(03:16):
led you to today, look inside ofyou.
The safety net is nowhereoutside.
It can feel that way.
We can place all the value ofsafety and security and those
things that we desire on thingsoutside of us.
But that's when we get intotrouble, because things change
on the outside all of the time.

(03:38):
Nothing is guaranteed.
The future belongs to no one,and when we feel stressed
specifically around change, itshuts down our prefrontal cortex
, that part of the brain that'sresponsible for creativity,
rational decision-making, theability to actually just see and

(03:59):
interact in the world withpresence.
When we're stressed out, that'sshut down.
So we go into a new situationor a situation where, oh yeah,
shifts and transitions arehappening and we're not even
equipped with our best brain.
So the way that I think aboutchange is I've decided or I

(04:21):
decided a few years ago, actually in my twentiess, I
decided that I love change.
I know that change bringsopportunity.
I know that the future belongsto nobody.
We get to shape it.
There is something excitingabout things just being in flux.
It's not going anywhere.
So how can we make peace withand have fun with the shifts

(04:45):
that life bring us If you're inself-coaching society?
We're going to be talking aboutthis too in an upcoming call, so
get excited Until tomorrow, myfriends.
So much love and ease.
