Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be
Easy with Susie Moore.
My friends, I have a fable foryou today.
It's actually one of myfavorite Aesop's fables.
It's one of my very favoritebecause I think it's so relevant
(00:22):
, it's so applicable, and, oh mygosh, if only we could teach
this to everybody, starting withthe young ones.
Life could be a whole lot moreenjoyable.
Okay, it's called the Dog andthe Shadow.
A dog, crossing a bridge over astream with a piece of flesh in
(00:42):
his mouth, saw his own shadowin the water and took it for
that of another dog with a pieceof meat double his own in size.
He therefore let go of his ownand fiercely attacked the other
dog to get his larger piece fromhim, larger piece from him.
(01:17):
He thus lost both that which hegrasped at in the water because
it was a shadow.
And it's about the illusion ofcompetition, perhaps even greed,
and chasing what you believeother people have that is, at
(01:37):
least in your mind, morevaluable or better than what you
have.
And if you chase it, if youchase an illusion, you might
lose what you already have.
How can this apply to your life?
I mean, the obvious answer tome right off the bat here is in
business.
(01:57):
If I'm comparing my success toother people who do X more than
me or sell Y more than me, orwho are involved in projects
that seem really, reallyimpressive, it can make me
unsatisfied with my own steadygrowth, with the projects that
(02:18):
I'm already working on, with thework that I do.
That's meaningful to me.
If I'm like, oh, that person'sgot a bigger piece of meat, a
better piece of meat, let metussle that person and go for
theirs.
I'm rejecting and forgettingabout everything that I've
created.
Think about this inrelationships, too.
(02:40):
It's easy to compare ourrelationship to other people's
and go, oh, but he's so romantic.
Oh, but she's so XYZ.
Oh, but he has more of this orthat.
It's so easy for us to forget,to discount, to brush off
everything already within ourprecious possession when we're
(03:01):
focused on the illusion and itis an illusion because we don't
know anybody.
We don't know anybody else'slife.
We only see what's shared withus, what's presented to us
online.
We even also just know whatpeople tell us.
Haven't you even just gonethrough life ever and then a
friend shocked you saying she'sgoing through a divorce?
Or someone tells you thatthey're secretly battling an
(03:22):
illness, or you find out, youknow years later that someone
was in a lot of debt or theywere going through something
really rough and didn'tcommunicate it.
We don't even know what anybodyelse's life is like.
We might know what their feedis like, but we don't know what
their life is like.
And if we're there thinking mypiece of meat isn't that big,
they've got all the meat andwe're completely oh my gosh
(03:47):
throwing court, like absolutelylosing our place and losing the
power of everything already inour existence, losing the joy of
that, the satisfaction of that.
We do, in fact, miss out oneverything, don't we?
Because we're chasing anillusion that isn't even real
(04:09):
and we lose what is real in ourown lives.
I think we all know this.
You know this old saying thatcompetition is a thief of joy,
and don't you know, the grass isgreener where you water it.
We hear these a lot becausethey're true.
(04:30):
Look at your life, look at whatyou've already created and
allowed in, what is fabulousabout it, because I guess I bet
you any money.
Somebody else is looking at you, going oh, she's got it all.
Oh, he's got it all.
Can we focus and appreciate onwhat it is that we possess, not
only just for the puresatisfaction of it, but knowing
too, that this way we are livingin reality.
Until tomorrow, my friends, somuch love and ease.
