Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be
Easy with Susie Moore.
I have another fable for youtoday.
My friends and I have to say Ilove the, the old language with
which these were written two anda half thousand years ago,
words that we no longer use.
(00:21):
It's kind of part of the charmif you ask me words that we no
longer use.
It's kind of part of the charmif you ask me.
This is the fable calledHercules and the Wagoner.
Okay, stick with me, I'm goingto break this down.
(00:42):
A carter was driving a wagonalong a country lane when the
wheels sank down deep into a rut.
The rustic driver, stupefiedand aghast, stood looking at the
wagon and did nothing but utterloud cries to Hercules to come
and help him.
Hercules, it is said, appearedand thus addressed him put your
shoulders to the wheels, my man,go ahead and never more pray to
(01:06):
me for help until you have doneyour best to help yourself or
depend upon it, or depend uponit.
You will henceforth pray invain.
What does this mean?
Essentially, this man carting awagon along a country lane, his
(01:27):
wheels get stuck, he prays to agod.
The god appears and says to himget to work.
Don't pray for me until, untilyou've done everything that you
can.
Otherwise you pray in vain.
What is the moral here, myfriends, my gosh?
(01:48):
This is basically self-coachingsociety.
In a nutshell, self-help is thebest help.
Self-help is the best help.
Think about it.
If you know how to coachyourself in any situation, any
situation at all, you alwayshave your coach with you.
You don't have to call anyone, you don't have to text anyone,
you don't have to book anysessions, you don't have to open
(02:10):
a book.
You need nothing apart fromyour own brain.
So how often do we do this?
We hit a roadblock, somethingdoesn't go our way and we're
like well, I need help.
We start reaching out to people, we start asking others to help
us.
And look, that's a strengthasking for help.
But in this fable the man who'spushing this cart along, he
(02:35):
prays to God saying help me,help me.
And God says help yourself.
Help yourself, honey, becausethat can also put God's action
to work right.
Faith without works is dead.
Are you helping yourself?
You know, I've got to tell yousomething Over the years,
especially as I've grown mybusiness and I've had various
(03:00):
media features and I've sold alot of courses and programs.
A lot of people from my formerlife, aka my corporate life,
come to me and say how do I dowhat you do?
How do I set something up, howdo I do this, how do I do that?
And the thing is I can't dothat for you.
Of course I offer suggestions.
I have a lot of free resourcesbut if someone's just coming to
(03:22):
me throwing questions at mewithout really doing any work,
then they're doing that in vain.
That is very different tosomeone who perhaps comes to me,
asks some questions, takes myadvice, checks out the resources
, takes the steps and says, hey, look, you know this is what
I've done.
And, um, you know I'm thinkingthis way or that way.
Could you just chime in?
That is self-help.
That is doing the work.
That is applying yourself.
(03:42):
That is self-help.
That is doing the work.
That is applying yourself, thatis taking the steps.
And then at the point where youknow, gosh, I've really gone as
far as I can without perhaps alittle bit of advice, the world
will be very willing and happyto help you, but you have to
take the actions first.
Even in any good mentoringsituation, the mentee takes the
(04:06):
steps.
The mentee takes the advice.
They absorb it, they respect it, they revere the support that
they're getting, they moveforward and then they check in
with the mentor again when it'sready for the next step or the
next piece of advice.
But if the mentee is sittingthere doing nothing, constantly
(04:27):
asking for advice, my friends,it is in vain.
Where could you be applyingthis to your life today?
Where could you be taking moreaction?
Maybe you need to learn a newskill.
Maybe you need to sign up for aprogram that can help you.
Maybe you've got books on yourshelf that you haven't dove into
yet that have the answers.
(04:48):
Self-help will always be thebest help.
My friends Talk about beingresourceful Until tomorrow.
So much love and ease.
