Have you ever fantasized about running away from everything? That urge to disappear into the woods, move to a remote island, or as I often imagine, escape to a lemon grove in the south of France where absolutely no one can find you?

You're not alone. This "unfollow fantasy" reveals something profound about what we're truly seeking. As I share in this episode, these escape impulses typically surface when our boundaries have worn thin, our calendars are overflowing, and our nervous systems feel completely fried. Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
Do you ever have this unfollowfantasy?
Maybe not just unfollowing, butjust escaping your life?
I'll never forget aconversation I had with a friend

(00:21):
of mine.
Maybe it was two, perhaps threeyears ago.
I was launching lots of new, exciting things.
I was definitely busier thanever.
Much more was popping up in mycalendar and I said to her I
just want to run away into thewoods where no one can talk to
me for a while and be by myself.
And she was like, yeah, me too.
Oh, my gosh, it's getting sooverwhelming right now but I'm

(00:43):
scared if I don't do one thing, like I'm going to get in trouble
.
If I drop the ball in one area, you know, the pitchforks are
going to be out and people aregoing to start coming for me and
we would laugh and laugh.
And I've got to tell you I dohave this fleeting feeling
sometimes of wanting to justshut it all down and go and live
in a lemon grove in the southof France with no phone, no one

(01:07):
having my address and sipping mysparkling water by the pool
with earmuffs on.
So I can't hear a thing.
Can you relate?
Maybe you're going through abusy season, or maybe this has
always been at the back of yourmind a little bit.
I know friends of mine withyoung kids often joke I just
want to run away.
I just want to run away and bealone.

(01:27):
So if you ever had this, youknow the one disappear, go into
the woods.
What does it mean?
Right?
What does it mean?
I get it.
You know, sometimes we need abreak from social media.
Sometimes we actually do need achange or a vacation, but I

(01:47):
find that my escape fantasyisn't about relocating or giving
everything up or being alone.
It's more about this feeling ofliberation and just freeing
myself.
Right?
It's not about another part ofthe world or not having devices
or not having demands orresponsibilities.
It's about me giving myselfpermission to do what it is that

(02:10):
I need, like.
Take a break, say no to that, restructure something, perhaps
even delegate more.
The fantasy I believe that wehave sometimes isn't about
anything mystical or out thereor having a castle or having a
place to run to.
It's just about tapping intothat version of you that doesn't

(02:38):
need to explain herself, thatdoesn't need to justify anything
, or that doesn't need to replyto those text messages, one that
doesn't have demands on her allof the time.
To me, this unfollow feeling, this unfollow fantasy, this
runaway fantasy, it's about justneeding some space, needing

(03:01):
some time with yourself, and Ifind this runaway kind of
impulse, even though it'sfleeting, it does surface the
most, maybe when our boundariesare a bit thin or when our
calendar is perhaps a bit toopacked, maybe our nervous system
feels a bit fried.

(03:21):
So what can you do instead, ifyou're not going to sell it?
Pack it all up, move to anotherpart of the world, some remote
Scottish island.
What could you unfollow whilestill being present in your life
?
Is it peeling back a bit?
Is it being less on your phone?
Is it opting out of certaintrips this year?
A friend of mine said to merecently that he's cancelled his

(03:44):
vacations this summer.
He just wants to be home, and Ithought good for you.
We had a big international tripplanned this towards the end of
this year and we decided tomove it.
My husband turns 40 next year,so we thought you know, instead
of even just doing too much andtraveling so many hours this
year, let's just chill, do it abit later, have a bit more space

(04:10):
in our day-to-day lives.
What does your unfollow fantasyreveal to you and what can you
implement, even in a small way?
Today, my friends, dm me onInstagram.
Let me know at suzymore.
Until tomorrow, my friends.

(04:30):
So much love and ease.
