Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be
Easy with Susie Moore.
Well, here is a story that weall know today that I'm very
excited to read to you.
It might be one of the mostfamous Aesop fables.
Your kids know it, in fact.
If your kids are with you today, why not play this for them?
(00:21):
It's a great one, it'sextremely famous.
We use this expression a lot inday-to-day life and it hails
from Aesop two and a halfthousand years ago.
It is the story of the hare andthe tortoise.
Okay, you already know what'scoming, but I'm going to read it
anyway, my friends, and delveinto the moral here.
(00:42):
A hare one day ridiculed theshort feet and slow pace of the
tortoise.
The latter, laughing, saidthough you be as swift as the
wind, I will beat you in a race.
The hare, deeming her assertionto be simply impossible,
assented to the proposal, andthey agreed that the fox should
choose the course and fix thegoal On the day appointed for
(01:03):
the race.
They started together.
The tortoise never for a momentstopped, but went on with a
slow and steady pace straight tothe end of the course.
The hare, trusting to hisnative swiftness, cared little
about the race and, lying downby the wayside, fell fast asleep
At last, waking up and movingas fast as he could.
(01:25):
He saw the tortoise had reachedthe goal and was comfortably
dozing after her fatigue.
My friends, are you the tortoiseor the hare?
I have to say that I feel likeI am a hare in most cases.
I love quick action, I love tomove rapidly, but that's
actually not what this is about,is it?
I would say, in modern terms, the way that I interpret this is
(01:49):
consistency.
Notice how the tortoise neverstops, beats speed, beats
natural talent, beats naturaladvantages.
When it comes to long-termsuccess, this is good news, my
friends, you don't have to besuper fit, super fast, super
quick, super straight tobusiness action, action, action,
(02:10):
no, but you do need to besteady.
In fact, overestimating yourconfidence and underestimating
others too can lead to unwantedoutcomes right Falling asleep,
letting this kind of thinghappen.
It's so interesting to me.
(02:30):
I will choose commitment insomebody over anything else,
over passion, over naturalabilities, over skills,
commitment, commitment,commitment.
So, for example, today you mighthear about a flashy startup
that's glossy and fabulous andit might launch quickly and
loudly, but behind the scenes, there's no quiet consistency
(02:54):
going on, whereas maybe a quiet, consistent new business that
just launched, where people keptshowing up.
Business that just launched, where people kept showing up
serving people tirelessly, justplodding forward, forward,
forward.
They will succeed in the longterm because they are steady.
(03:15):
Which are you Fast moving anddoes a fire fizzle out quickly?
Or are you steady?
Are you moving forward withpurpose, not in a rush, but with
a goal in mind?
Think about this how this isgoing to apply to your fitness,
to your health, to your businessand career.
Look, think about it.
I've been around for 12 yearsnow as a full-time life coach,
(03:38):
right as a media strategist.
I've had this podcast everysingle day for three and a half
years.
I have not missed a day.
Did it have the big glossy, fancy push that many others have
?
No, but here I am behind thescenes showing up for you.
Nothing gives me more pleasureand, frankly, this has been an
incredible channel for me toreach people.
(03:59):
You share these podcasts.
More and more people come intomy world, come into
self-coaching society, receivethe benefit of what it is that
I'm doing for you, not becauseit's quick and fancy, because
it's slow and steady.
Think about money and investing.
Someone who invests a littleeach month steadily often
outgrows the person who tries totime the market and gamble
(04:22):
right.
It might be fast, but it's notconsistent.
What about relationships?
Are you a consistent friend?
What about learning anything, alanguage?
You might be all in for twodays, but what about that daily
Duolingo goal?
What about practicing somesentences out loud each morning?
It's not about speed, althoughspeed can be your friend in a
(04:45):
lot of cases.
It's not about speed or naturaltalent.
It's about showing up, beingsteady and not stopping.
Not glamorous, but true untiltomorrow.
My friends, so much love andease.
