Have you ever left a conversation realizing you spoke the entire time and learned absolutely nothing? That moment of awareness struck me after dinner with close friends recently. Despite having an incredible evening filled with stories about travel adventures, I walked away with a troubling realization—I hadn't learned anything new about my friends' lives because I'd dominated the airtime.

This simple observation reveals a powerful truth: listening is the secret ingredient to deeper connections and personal growth. When we constantly talk, we're merely recycling information we already possess. But when we listen, we create space for learning, understanding, and genuine connection. Think about it—if you spent an entire year talking without listening, you'd end that year with exactly the same knowledge you started with. No growth, no new perspectives, no evolution.

And, as a special bonus, I want to give you FREE access to my signature course, Slay Your Year (usually $997)! All you have to do is:

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
I'd like to share with youtoday a very simple and powerful
truth that can transform yourlife and your relationships
Truly truly.
It's generous, it requires verylittle of you and it enriches

(00:24):
your life.
Okay, it really is to listenmore, right?
Listen more.
Most of us are waiting to speak.
Most of us are waiting for theother person to finish their
sentence before we dive in withour very clever point.
Most of us want the airtime.
I get it.
It's fun to speak.
It feels like we're engaging.

(00:45):
There's momentum that comeswith it.
It's energizing.
But the other day, heath and Ihad dinner with another couple
this other couple that we love, these friends of ours and we had
a fantastic time.
We went to a restaurant that Ilove.
We shared all thisMediterranean food and we were
talking about a lot.
Now they're really interestedin our travel adventures.
So we're speaking about Japan,we're speaking about France,

(01:08):
we're speaking about Hawaii,we're speaking about lots of
different countries, lots ofdifferent things, and we had
this amazing, long, cool,relaxed dinner.
And then, as we were walkinghome, I noticed that I didn't
really get a full update on whatmy friends were working on and
what they were planning.
They were so generous andasking so many questions about

(01:31):
what it is that we're planningand doing that I realized I'd
spoken too much.
I didn't learn anything.
Now, by learning something, Ilook at this twofold okay.
People who we love we want tolearn about them.
We want to understand them moreintimately, more deeply.
We want to know what they think.
We want to know how they feel.

(01:52):
We want to know what's going oninside of them.
That's the basis of truefriendship, isn't it?
So when we're talking, talking, talking, we actually don't
really get to understand andconnect with another person
because they don't get to sharevery much, and so an opportunity
is lost.
And then, secondly, when we'rethe ones doing the talking, in a

(02:15):
meeting, in a social setting,in any situation, we learn
nothing.
When we're talking, we're justregurgitating information and
knowledge that we already have.
We don't get smarter, we absorbzero.
Just say, we went around for awhole year and all we did was
talk and not listen.

(02:35):
We would not be any smarter ayear from now.
We'd be exactly where we were, because we're just repeating
what we already know.
And if you're, like me, right, you have intelligent friends.
You've got people whose opinionyou care about, whose you
respect.
You want to know what they'rethinking about, what they're
feeling, what they're working on.
So, even though we had thisincredible dinner with our

(02:55):
friends we all enjoyed ourselvesI hope I left thinking I don't
know enough about what's goingon with this couple, but I want
to know more about them andwhat's happening in their lives.
And also, I've noticed, whenever I hang out with my very
clever, lovely friends, Ialways leave a bit smarter.
I learn something, I glean abit of knowledge.
They teach me something, they've learned something that

(03:17):
they're excited to share andthat is lost when we are the
ones who are talking.
So when you listen, people loveyou, because people love to be
heard.
Right, and, in fact, the bestconversation lists are often the
best listeners.
This is who we love.
We love people to listen to us.
It's a whole industry, right, think about it therapy, coaching

(03:37):
.
We want to be heard.
If we can offer this tosomebody else, not only do we
deepen a connection, but we openour brains and our hearts and
we can receive things, we canlearn, we become wiser, we
become better.
And this is all we did.
If we only paid attention more, listened more, opened up those
ears, closed our mouths a littlemore.

(04:16):
There is so much for us to gainUntil tomorrow.
