That persistent weight of "I should have" decisions can disconnect us from our present blessings and keep us trapped in endless loops of doubt. But what if regret isn't the truth we believe it to be?

Drawing wisdom from spiritual teacher Byron Katie, this episode explores the revolutionary perspective that regret is merely a thought, not a fact. Consider this: if you truly knew something was right or were genuinely ready for an opportunity, wouldn't you have pursued it? "You didn't miss the boat. You were never meant to board it" isn't just a comforting phraseβ€”it's a profound truth about how our lives unfold.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Let it Be Easy with Susie Moore.
You know one thing, my friends, that I think guides a lot of
our lives and makes us feelheavy and second-guessing
ourselves and full of doubts, and has us just feeling even

(00:22):
disconnected from our blessings,is this sense of regret that we
sometimes live with.
We should have done that, weshould have invested over here,
we should have taken that job,we should have seized that
opportunity we should have, weshould have right.
This word should.
It's one of the trickiest onesand in coaching we always zoom
in on this word should.

(00:43):
But here's something that I'velearned, and for me, I've
learned this from Byron Katie, who is probably my favorite
spiritual teacher, and pleasecheck out her interview on the
podcast if you haven't already.
She's one in a million.
I hope she lives forever.
But what I learned from ByronKatie is that regret is a

(01:05):
thought, regret isn't a fact, itis a thought in our minds.
Right Shows up as I should haveknown I should have done this,
I should have acted sooner, andI wonder if that's really truth
talking.
If you knew for sure, or if youwere ready for that thing, you

(01:29):
would have pursued it, wouldn'tyou?
I love this expression.
You didn't miss the boat.
You were never meant to boardit.
It wasn't your boat, otherwiseyou would be on it, wouldn't you
?
There's a reason, either divineor within you, or some form of

(01:52):
protection, as to why you didn'tgo for that thing.
What if the right opportunitiesnever pass you by?
What if they can't?
What if they just unfold whenyou're actually ready, not when
your ego, who loves to steer theship, wishes you were ready?

(02:14):
I wonder if most regrets arejust fantasies, fantasies about
the past, imagining a betterpast.
We don't know what would havehappened If you took that job.
You might've hated it, youmight've gotten bullied there.
If you married that otherperson, you don't know what he
or she is really like.
Right, sometimes, on thesurface someone seems wonderful,

(02:36):
but then we marry them andwe're like oh, I didn't know
this.
The mind loops itself and we canget stuck there.
We can live with this sense ofregret that weighs us down, and
it is an illusion.
When you tap into your body, Ifind that my body knows right.
We make decisions, oftenunconsciously, just knowing

(02:58):
what's right or wrong for us inthat precise moment.
So, looking back, with what weknow now, we're not dealing with
the same version of us thatmade the decision that we did.
Can we trust what's here, notwhat's gone?
What if you're exactly whereyou need to be?
What if, when it does, you'llgo?

(03:19):
Ah, this makes sense now.
Hasn't this been true for somany things in your past that
you thought I wish I should have?
And then, with some time andwith some presence, you realized

(03:40):
it was meant to be exactly asit is.
Realized it was meant to beexactly as it is Until tomorrow,
