Believing this person could lead them to rescue and has ties to his past, Desmond tries to ensure the vision plays out exactly as he saw it. He recruits Hurley, Jin, and Charlie on a camping trip under false pretenses, but faces a moral dilemma when he realizes saving the person might mean letting Charlie die. In flashbacks, we see Desmond's past in a monastery, including how he got the nickname "brother".
