Uterine Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that develop in the uterus and affect 40% to 80% of women during their childbearing years. Fibroids are quite common, and while they can cause discomfort and other symptoms, they are usually manageable.
However, for Black and African women, fibroids can be particularly concerning.
Black and African women are more likely to develop fibroids compared to women of other ethnicities. The growth of fibroids in Black and African women is larger than the smaller growth of their counterparts, thus, causing more pain, and discomfort and can be life-threatening.
