Jason Connell (05:00:17):
Whoa, just
curious. Welcome to Just curious
media. This is let's talk CobraKai. I'm Jason Connell.
Sal Rodriguez (05:00:27):
And I'm Sal
Rodriguez.
Jason Connell (05:00:28):
All right, Sal,
we are back for another fast
quick down and dirty previewepisode.
Sal Rodriguez (05:00:35):
Yes, it is fast.
It is quick. And it is exciting.
Jason Connell (05:00:39):
That's it folks.
No Mercy. Yeah, it is excitedbecause I started this when we
had when I interviewed since agym true of true martial arts
academy just recently had him onthe show, but we decided to do a
little preview you and I, youknow, video, audio video
everything because you couldn'tjoin us. And so solid did it
again.
Sal Rodriguez (05:01:01):
Yeah. No, no,
this is great. These interviews
are great. I love the interviewwith sensei. True. Good. It was
a really great interview. Greatsound as well.
Jason Connell (05:01:11):
Very good. Well,
I did it again. Meaning I have
another interview. I did itduring the day my time which
again, three hours behind on thewest coast. So I had since a
Chris Jensen in the studio atthe local studio. He met early
also from true Martial ArtsAcademy. He trained under
Sensei, Jim true.
Sal Rodriguez (05:01:29):
Well, nice. So
this is like kind of like crease
and Johnny
Jason Connell (05:01:33):
Exactly. And I
also mentioned he is in The Next
Karate Kid. He was the youngstudent that got to be put in
the movie with some of his otherstudents. Some of since hm
students. So yeah, he heard theepisode wanted to come on as
like, of course. And since a Jimmentions him in the episode, if
you recall, like, I've had thesekids like seven, eight years old
(05:01:54):
train with me all the way up.
This is one of those guys. he'sour age. He's been in the true
martial arts academy all theseyears. And now he has two kids.
They're also training at thedojo. Wow. It's a family affair.
Sal Rodriguez (05:02:08):
Very special. It
really is. That's really cool.
That's a It's a legacy.
Jason Connell (05:02:13):
It's a legacy.
This is what I loved about thisdojo. Not only are they involved
with The Next Karate Kid, again,we know this and since a Chris
agrees, the weakest of all ofthe Karate Kid movies, but
still, it's filmed here inBoston. It's cool that it was
filmed here. And they're a partof it. But like you said, I was
in love with the legacy the factthat this dojo has like peers
and the this level and thislevel. So this Dojo is like runs
(05:02:34):
like a real organization, like afamily like a team. But I found
out that I shouldn't tell toomuch, because it's a great
interview. But since a Chrisgrew up without a father, yeah,
okay, join this dojo very young.
And since a gym true, I waslike, wow, this is like karate
kid all over again. It was likethe father figure he didn't have
(05:02:57):
got him in the right type ofmartial arts. And here we are
decades later, and it just keepsperpetuating itself moving
forward. I always just touchwhen I found this out, like, oh,
my gosh, wait a second. This isjust This is almost too meta at
the same time.
Sal Rodriguez (05:03:11):
Sure. And you
start to get into how martial
arts is not only the fightingitself, not only the defense
itself. Now, there's so muchmore happening.
Jason Connell (05:03:20):
Yes, the
discipline the lifestyle, and
here he is paying it forward. Sosuper excited to have him on. We
also get into The Next KarateKid, how it came about how the
casting went, his scenes, he gotto meet Walter gogans, who's in
the movie went on to be a bigactor. And of course, Michael
Ironsides there and talks aboutpatent Raider. So some fun
(05:03:41):
little nuggets there, which welove. Also, he was into Cobra
Kai, even before me, I know Iwas into for you. But he got
YouTube early. He was an earlyearly adopters, and he loves it.
Sal Rodriguez (05:03:54):
Nice. So in other
words, he was one of these guys
when he first because we all Iguess, let's say theoretically,
we all saw the trailer at thesame time. And I was like, what
I was doing, what what is why?
And then you put it aside? Well,he didn't. He didn't
Jason Connell (05:04:09):
very bought it.
You bought it. And it was and soI was like, I was an early
adopter, but you beat me. Andthen he also brought a t shirt
to the interview. Not to mentionhe's wearing a Cobra Kai shirt.
So kudos, but he brought a shirtthat the production crew gave
him from The Next Karate Kid. Itlooked like they gave it to me
yesterday. He kept it like inmint condition, much like your
(05:04:30):
toys. And so you can see that onsocial media when I posted I
thought that was really cool.
Sal Rodriguez (05:04:37):
Jason, I'm proud
of my karate kid merchandise
store bought, let alone if I hadactual actual item
Jason Connell (05:04:46):
memorabilia from
Sal Rodriguez (05:04:47):
the moon. That's
very exciting. Very, very cool.
Jason Connell (05:04:51):
And then lastly,
we talk a little bit more about
the sensei Jim beer at themighty squirrel Brewing Company.
Since a Gemini had so manythings to cover that we didn't
get into that but there is abeer since a jam right there
because the Dojo is on thebackside of this brewery that is
really cool all about community.
So we talked about that some butit's a great chat, and I can't
(05:05:11):
wait for you and our fans tohear it.
Sal Rodriguez (05:05:16):
You know, Jason,
let's be clear. believe you can
do home bottling people likebottle like you know have make
their own beer bottle it up youcan give me some of that sense a
true beer bottle it up and shipit to California
Jason Connell (05:05:27):
yeah well they do
bottle it it is already you
could buy in cans it's out thereyeah I didn't know and I was
just there I think at the placethey have the tap they have the
keg but since a Chris told methis they actually have it
bottled or canned. I was like ohmy gosh, now we have to get this
thing. Yeah, shipping around forsure.
Sal Rodriguez (05:05:46):
That's really
cool. I know. I'll have my
Johnny Lawrence action figuredrinking some true beer. I'll be
mad as hell.
Jason Connell (05:05:55):
I love it. I love
it. Well,
that's all I got just a littlepreview of the interview is
since a Christiansen of truemartial arts
academy. Yeah, a legacy. Alegacy. Sosa take it away.
Sal Rodriguez (05:06:09):
No Mercy
