Speaker 1 (00:01):
You know, back in the
day, when I was still smoking
marijuana, I would, I'd fire upand I mean I wouldn't just puff
and pretend to inhale.
I was a guy, I would inhale andI would do it a lot right, it
(00:27):
was a way of life for me and Ialso had this mentality that
went along with that.
And it was this I had thementality that the majority of
people smoke marijuana.
They might not say they do, butthe majority of people do.
(00:51):
And so I would kind of justifywhat I was doing because I would
make it normal.
What I was doing seemed normal.
Everyone was doing it.
So if everyone's doing it, itmust be okay.
(01:12):
But the truth is, if you takethe population of the world,
which is in the billions right, less than 150 million people
(01:34):
regularly smoke marijuana.
That's 2.7% Far from everybody,far from everybody.
(01:55):
Now there could be an argumentas to whether or not smoking
marijuana is wrong or if it'ssinful.
That's not going to be thedebate or the topic of this
particular podcast episode.
What I'm referring to in thisparticular instance is that
(02:17):
there are things that wenormalize and kind of make it up
to be as though that's the waythat things are.
So it kind of makes it okay andI'm referring to specifically a
portion of this particularpodcast episode that we're
(02:38):
focusing in on, in fact, thelion's share of this particular
podcast episode, in fact, thelion's share of this particular
(02:58):
podcast episode we're looking atone statement that Jesus made
while he was hanging on thecross and that now, granted,
that's a very intense topic whenyou break it down.
Jesus, the perfect man, sinlessman, great teacher, great
prophet, also God, the Son, theSon of God, was crucified on a
(03:30):
wooden cross, a device designedfor torture, perfected by the
Romans back in the first centuryAD, and he hung on that cross
(04:02):
as a price to be paid to redeemus from the consequences of the
sins that we commit as humanbeings.
The forgiveness of sins, thewashing away not the covering of
, but the washing away, theremoval of the remittance of our
guilt, of our fear, of ourshame, of our sin, of our fear
(04:24):
of our shame of our sin, of ourmissing completely the
connection point of relationshipwith God.
Even if we settle for areligious lifestyle, it's still
not relationship.
Relationship and religion aretwo different things, as we've
(04:46):
talked about many times.
There are things that we can doreligiously that are good and
they can stem from ourrelationship, but religious
things don't produce arelationship.
I don't have a religion with mywife.
I have a relationship with her,and then there are things we do
regularly, religiously if youwill but we first have
(05:13):
relationship.
Well, jesus made a way for us tohave relationship with God.
Without him, there is no realrelationship, because there's a
division created by a conditionthat we're born with, and the
(05:38):
only way for that condition tobe taken care of is for it to be
addressed by the very power ofthe blood of Jesus Christ, the
redeeming power of his blood, the sacrificial power of his
blood, the covenant power of hisblood, the relationship
(06:02):
provided for by his blood, ofhis blood, the relationship
provided for by his blood.
And so, yeah, I mean, thinkingabout Jesus hanging on the cross
is an intense picture, and itshould be because it is, and the
(06:23):
sheer fact that he would sayanything while he was hanging on
the cross that was worthrecording is amazing, because he
was the only man who ever hungon the cross.
Thousands upon thousands ofpeople were killed, tortured to
(06:47):
death by hanging on a cross, anda lot of things came out of
people's mouths, but I canguarantee you what Jesus said.
He's the only one who spokewords like that.
(07:13):
Those words, and the firstwords that we're going to look
at, are the words Father, forgive them.
Words, father, forgive them, for they know not what they do
(07:37):
or what they're doing.
Now, who is he talking about?
Well, initially, he's talkingabout the people that were right
there at the time the Romansand the religious leaders and
some others in the crowd thatwould attend crucifixions.
(08:01):
The soldiers were there becausethat was their job.
The religious leaders werethere because they were
intentionally there to mockJesus, because he embarrassed
them In their eyes.
He embarrassed them.
What he was doing was he wasshowing them the truth, but the
(08:23):
truth was embarrassing them tomake them look good, make them
look the way they really were, and that was two-faced
Hypocrites.
But they came to mock him andthey all were there, kind of
(08:51):
thinking that people felt thesame way about what they were
doing and in their minds, it wasright, because sin, by the very
(09:12):
nature of it, has an effect onour internal lives and it begins
to numb them to reality.
And it begins to numb them toreality.
That's why leprosy is such aclear visual of what sin is like
(09:42):
on the inside of our lives.
Leprosy is, by and large, whenyou lose feeling.
You can no longer feel things.
So when you grab a door handle, you don't realize that you're
squeezing it so hard that it'sliterally tearing the flesh from
your hand.
Or if you kick a rock, youdon't realize that you kicked it
so hard that you broke your toeor gashed it, thus leaving an
(10:06):
infectious wound, or at leastthe potential of it, and so
people would have these soresand these lesions, and also
limbs would begin to fall offbecause there was no circulation
.
And that is the effect of sin.
(10:26):
It has a numbing effect, butalso has this unique effect that
it kind of is contagious.
Have you ever noticed it?
I'm speaking to you as thoughyou have a relationship with God
(10:53):
because of your faith in Jesusand you're born again because of
the life that he's given to you.
As a result of you placing yourfaith in him and he taking from
you that condition and givingyou his life, you are now a new
species.
So I'm addressing you as thoughyou are that person, and if
(11:15):
you're not and you're stilllistening that means you're
being drawn into that type ofrelationship.
So just stay tuned.
But if you are in thatrelationship and you now have a
(11:44):
view of something that you justdo as an individual, yes, you
commit it as an individual, butit has a collective effect, thus
normalizing it Interesting.
That's how gossip, slander, being dissentious, being
(12:19):
stealing, envy, covetousness,strife, bitterness, adultery,
drunkenness, all of those thingswhich would be categorized as
(12:40):
sin.
They have an effect on ourlives.
That is a numbing effect.
We don't know what we're doing.
Sin numbs us to know what we'redoing.
We just don't know what we'redoing.
Have you ever noticed that Evennow, even in your life?
(13:05):
Now, when something is comingat you and you succumb to it,
there is some attempt tonormalize it by saying, well,
I'm not the only one.
Or we find then comfort inhanging out with people that do
(13:31):
the same thing that we're doing, even if it's wrong, and it
gives us a sense that, well,we're not the only one and maybe
it's not so bad after all.
That whole white lie thing,right?
What is a white lie?
Is it different than the blacklie, a green lie?
What's the differentiationthere?
(13:55):
It's a lie, of course.
A little sin, a lot of sin.
A little sin, a lot of sin, abig sin, one that's not going to
lead to death and one that doeslead to sin.
Sin needs to be forgiven.
(14:18):
And Jesus, hanging on the cross, spoke to a group of people who
were mocking him, taunting himto come off the cross, even
(14:39):
though he was paying for theirfreedom.
It is finished.
Might as well be stamped, paidin full.
Father, forgive them.
What would it have been had hesaid, had he said Father, I
(15:04):
curse them, all of them, right, but he didn't.
He said forgive them, but hedidn't.
He said forgive them.
(15:24):
And Jesus spoke into thatsetting and now reverberating
throughout the centuries intoour lives.
Father, forgive them, becausesin has a way of making us numb
(15:51):
to what we're doing.
Sin will make you numb to whatit is that you're doing, all the
while leading you closer towarddeath, because the wages, the
payoff of sin is ultimatelydeath, not life death.
(16:19):
It has the appearance ofproviding life, death.
It has the appearance ofproviding life.
It has the deception ofproviding life energy, but that
energy is a demonically infusedenergy that causes us to become
(16:51):
stimulated by that activity andwe become somewhat addicted to
it because we get stimulated byit.
It reaches into that aspect ofour life that responds to that
the receptors and the responders, the transmitters, and those
(17:17):
things that we receive thingsfrom Sin and those things that
(17:52):
we receive things from Thingsthat are detrimental concerning
our relationship with God.
Funny how that works, but theyprovide relationship, if you
call it that, with one another.
The Pharisees had relationshipwith each other, even though
they were mocking the very Sonof God.
(18:12):
Talk about sin.
The soldiers giving up hisclothes, rolling the dice to see
who he's going to get his robe, mocking him, putting vinegar
(18:40):
wine on a stick and popping withit, sinning against him.
But it all seemed normal.
No wonder we need forgiveness.
(19:02):
Some of us might not evenrealize the things that we're
involved in that are damagingour relationship with God and
with one another, because we'vebecome numb and we need, because
(19:25):
we've become numb and we needto invite Holy Spirit to bring
to us the reality of what Jesuspaid for on the cross, and that
is forgiveness, removal, remittance, washing away, taking
theance, washing away, takingthe sin and washing it away Not
(19:47):
just covering it up and maybe wecan go back to it a little bit
later, but really taking it away, being delivered from evil.
Can we really walk free?
Can we really walk like Jesus?
(20:10):
The answer is absolutely yes.
Is it hard?
Sometimes it is man, sometimesit's a real battle.
Is it hard?
Sometimes it is man, sometimesit's a real battle.
But Jesus fought that battle onour behalf, while hanging on
(20:38):
the cross, talking about anultimate place of weakness, and
yet he defeated the powers ofdarkness there.
He can give us strength now toovercome sin, because we're not
in that place of weakness.
(20:59):
We might experience weakness, but we're not hanging on a cross
, and so we can walk free, clean, pure, holy.
We can actually live that way.
That's my heart.
(21:20):
My heart is to live that way onan ongoing basis, to be holy as
God is holy, to have that comefrom within because I'm free
from sin.
(21:47):
Jesus would say to someindividuals go and sin no more.
And when you break that down, what he's really saying is go.
You're free not to sin.
You're free to keep from doingthat over and over and over and
(22:10):
over and over again.
You don't have to be caught upin the cycle of doing that.
You're free, I forgive you.
The power of forgiveness is somagnificent and it's a power
that we've been given to forgiveone another.
It's important for us toforgive one another, because if
(22:35):
we don't forgive people, we'reultimately going to become like
the very thing that we holdunforgiveness toward.
Why?
Because there's a principleknown as beholding and becoming
what you behold.
You become like, and if you arelocked in on someone's sin,
(22:56):
you're beholding their sin.
You're going to become likethat You're the one who's going
to be in bondage.
They might go free, but youwill be still in bondage to that
thing, and that's whyforgiveness is such an important
, powerful thing, and that's whyforgiveness is such an
important, powerful thing.
Holding grudges, holding grudgesonly hurts yourself, really
(23:19):
ultimately.
Yes, it hurts other people, ofcourse it does, but really
that's what we want.
That's our life, that's, wewant to live the rest of our
lives with grudges, angry,bitter, bitter.
We want to live the rest of ourlife with grudges, angry,
bitter.
Nah, come on, there's more tolife than living in a state of
(23:44):
frustration and agitation.
We can be free, because onewhom the Son has set free is
free indeed.
And Jesus said to the verypeople that were infused with
(24:05):
the powers of darkness they wereliterally infused with what the
psalmist is talking about inPsalm 22.
David is giving a propheticpicture of Jesus hanging on the
cross.
Because David was a prophet, hewas a priest and he was a king.
He held all three of thoseoffices.
(24:25):
He functioned in them just likeJesus.
Jesus did it perfectly, butDavid functioned as prophet,
priest and king, and a prophet.
He saw things and he talksabout the bulls of Bashan
(24:50):
encircling him and he's talkingabout what Jesus experienced on
the cross the bowls of Bashan.
And Bashan is a place known forits cattle.
In fact, there, if a man sixfoot tall six feet tall would
(25:17):
stand next to a bull of Bashan,it would come up to its
shoulders.
That's how tall a bull ofBashan was.
But they represented demonicpowers because Bashan was a
(25:41):
place also that was known to bea portal.
Actually, caesaree Philippi waslocated in and around Bashan
and that is where Jesus saidthat the gates of hell would not
prevail against himestablishing his church right
(26:04):
there, at the gates of hell.
That place was known literallyas the gates of hell, caesaree
Philippi or Bashan.
The bulls of Bashan encircledJesus.
Well, that's what the Phariseesand the soldiers they were
encircling Jesus.
They were infused with demonicpowers, so they didn't know what
(26:29):
they were doing because theyhad opened their lives up to
demonic powers.
Interesting, there are thingsthat infuse certain activities
and they are infused by demonicthought transference Big word,
(26:50):
but it's true.
Demonic thought transferenceBig word, but it's true.
Demonic thought transference, where demonic powers are
actually able to project theirthoughts upon a person's psyche.
That's why it is important forus to have the helmet of
salvation on the guarding ofknowing that we are a saved.
Saved person.
(27:12):
We carry that around us like aprotection.
There's a friend of mine who oneday, as it was nighttime, was
startled because as he wasfalling asleep, he noticed in
the corner of his room thatsomeone was in his room.
(27:33):
And he looked and it wasn'tsomeone, it was something.
And he looked closer and it wasa demonic power.
And they were looking at himand they were focusing their
thoughts on him, literally justlooking at him and trying to
project their thoughts upon himdemonic thought transference.
(27:53):
He rebuked him and said get outof here and, in the name of the
Lord, I command you to leave.
And they did.
It's amazing what goes on behindthe scenes.
I'm saying that there arethings that inf important for us
(28:32):
to at least be informed of,afraid of.
We don't need to be afraid of,but informed to be forewarned,
to be forearmed.
I'm giving you a heads up thatthere are some things that are
going on behind the scenes thatwe need to take a little more
seriously.
(28:53):
And just because other peopleare doing it doesn't mean that
it's okay, or at least for youit's not okay.
(29:35):
Okay, god has big plans for you.
He has a call upon your lifeand he wants you to see it
fulfilled.
For your purpose to befulfilled completely, let's pray
, father.
Thank you that you heard thewords of your son when he said,
(29:57):
father, forgive them becausethey just don't know what
they're doing.
I confess I acknowledge it'sbeen far too often my case, but
thankfully it is becoming moreand more frequent that that is
(30:19):
not the case and that your life, your quality of life, is
overcoming us.
We are made into overcomers andI thank you that we overcome by
(30:41):
the blood of the Lamb and theword of our testimony, and so we
apply the blood of Jesus to ourlives and teach us how to be
forgiving, as Jesus wasforgiving, so that we can
function like him.
Holy Spirit, that's why youwere sent and we submit to you
(31:06):
and we stand here in the veryname of Jesus and we say so be
it.
Amen, amen, amen, amen, amen,amen.
All right, folks, I love you.
