SPEAKER_00 (00:38):
In the next podcast
episode, we're going to be
looking into the book of FirstSamuel, chapter eleven, and also
the book of Judges, chaptersixteen.
We're looking at both of thosechapters because they carry so
much weight in the life ofIsrael, but also they're
(01:06):
relevant to each and every oneof our lives.
Funny thing about Israel, it isthe nation God has chosen God.
This is very important.
God himself has chosen Israel tobe his people.
(01:29):
Regardless of the opinions ofothers, Israel is still the
chosen people of God.
And those of us who arebelievers in Jesus have been
grafted into the promises thatGod has given to Israel.
(01:49):
So we are like a wild olivebranch.
In fact, that's what we'rereferred to as a wild olive
branch, grafted into the nationof Israel.
So even though we're not Jewishby birth, we are now co-heirs in
(02:12):
Christ.
We're one new man, both Jew andGentile, meaning those who
aren't Jewish, making up all ofthe others, right?
Gentiles.
And so the relevancy of lookingat Israel is the fact that
Israel is often used as anexample.
(02:36):
Sometimes is a great example forus to look at.
In others, it's an example ofpoor choices.
And in this podcast episode,we're going to kind of set the
table for the upcoming podcast.
(02:57):
And so the two are going to gohand in hand.
And in this episode, I want toreally highlight the fact that
we live in a world filled withchoices, man.
We are faced with choices allthe time.
Some are very simple, like whatwe're going to wear, what we're
(03:19):
going to eat.
Sometimes we make the choice asto what our vocation is going to
be.
I mean, we have choices.
We have choices that are goingto impact our lives eternally as
well.
And in the course of us makingchoices, we also are both
(03:44):
influenced and we areinfluencers.
We're influenced and weinfluence others.
We're influenced by people,we're influenced by spirits, and
spiritual powers influence us.
Now that part right there, theinfluence of spiritual powers,
(04:08):
spiritual entities, is somewhatdifficult for people that live
in the Western Hemisphere.
Most of the earth, or at least alot of it, has no problem
understanding the fact that welive in a dual reality, where
there's a spiritual world andthere's a natural physical
(04:29):
world, material world.
However, in the Westernhemisphere, because of the
strong emphasis on science andthings that are pragmatic that
can be dealt with concerning oursenses of smell, taste, things
(04:51):
that we can prove that are realby virtue of our senses.
We place higher value on thosethings than on things that are
invisible to our naked eye oftenand are not as easy to put under
(05:15):
the microscope unless our eyesare opened, or we have the
ability, or we have been bornwith the understanding that we
live in a spiritual reality in amaterial reality, and thus we're
(05:35):
attuned to that.
Some of you listening, you'vebeen raised in that type of
environment.
It might not be a godlyspiritual influence that you
have going on in your life orhad in your life, but you've had
the understanding that there arespiritual things that interact
(05:56):
with us on a regular basis.
And so I say these things aboutIsrael because, first of all, I
and we in this ministry of lifeon the fire, we support the
(06:18):
nation of Israel.
We pray for the peace ofJerusalem.
We follow the ways of Yeshua.
That's the Jewish name forJesus.
For Jesus, Jesus, our Messiah.
Yeshua Ha Meshiach.
(06:40):
And we have a deep respect forthe things that Israel goes
through on a regular basisbecause they are confronted with
some very significant seriousconflicts on a regular basis
(07:01):
that many of us know nothingabout, to be surrounded by
people that literally hate you,are bent on annihilating you,
and to have spiritual powersthat feel the same way.
You can imagine the intensity ofthat, and yet God has chosen to
(07:23):
use them.
And now for those of us who arebelievers, to use us as
examples.
Amazing.
So we are not our own.
We have been bought with aprice.
(07:46):
A price was paid for ourredemption.
And that price was blood, whichmeans it's the most valuable
commodity that can be offered onbehalf of someone else to redeem
(08:07):
them from where they were to anew place.
And for us, we have beenredeemed from death unto and
into life, eternal life, thevery life of God.
His life now lives in us who arebelievers, meaning we've placed
(08:30):
our faith and trust in the factthat Jesus is the one who
accomplished things on ourbehalf, shed his blood on our
behalf, so that we could be freefrom the bondage that we were
in.
And that's the only way we canbe free from the bondage that we
were in.
We couldn't redeem ourselves, itwas impossible.
(08:54):
And yet, God, before thefoundation of the world, before
creation, determined that he wasgoing to purchase us for
himself.
He secured it then, and it'ssecure now.
Those of us who believe inJesus, who place our faith in
(09:16):
his work and say, I believe thatyou did it on my behalf, I
accept that, and I am so sorryfor my sinful life.
Please forgive me, come into mylife, consume me.
He will.
(09:39):
Not only does he consume us atthat moment, he continues to
grow within us his life.
He's faithful.
Not only save us from where wewere, but all the way into where
we're going to ultimately be.
We're secure in him when wefollow him.
(10:04):
Now that promise is offeredbecause God wants to use us to
be people that can reach intothe world that we live in and
bring about a message that callspeople into a place of
(10:29):
understanding, a revelation ofthe fact that they don't have
to, you don't have to live beinginfluenced by the powers of
darkness, blinded by the powersof darkness, blinded by people
and blinded by spirits who don'thave your best interests in
(10:57):
mind, who only want to use youand use you up and spit you out
in the end.
Whereas God wants to fill you, fill us, fill me, and use me and
continue to fill me more.
(11:20):
He doesn't just offer ussomething and then later takes
it away and takes something elsewith it.
Like a drug.
A drug gives a person a list, but then when you come down, not
only do you come down, butyou're in a situation where
(11:42):
something has been removed fromyou, something has been taken.
And eventually there's nothingthat brings about euphoria.
(12:03):
Now it's a matter of keepingyourself from being sick because
everything's been taken awaythat once was there, and you're
left empty.
Even more than empty, you'releft prey to the powers of
(12:25):
darkness to literally destroyyou.
God, on the other hand, does notoperate that way, he gives and
gives more.
When we empty ourselves out frombeing used by God, he fills us
up in an even greater capacity,in a greater way.
(12:46):
And in looking at the eleventhchapter of 1 Samuel and Judges
chapter 16, we're going to seethis interesting thing in
operation that we are peoplethat are both influenced by
(13:13):
outside sources, but also weinfluence the people around us,
whether it's for good or forevil.
And also, we were created toworship humans.
(13:38):
Really, really really reallyimportant.
Humans have a God-given impulseto worship, to worship
something.
We are created to worship.
We might call it a desire, alonging, real love for.
(14:05):
We want to elevate somethingover us.
We're created that way.
There's a God-given desire toworship, ultimately to be filled
by God.
That void, when filled by God,when we worship God, we are
(14:29):
filled.
When we worship other things, there's a sensation that takes
place, but later we're empty, and even more than empty,
something's taken away.
And that's what we're finding inthese two chapters.
(14:56):
That the nation of Israel, agroup of people, were being
influenced by the nations aroundthem.
Were as at one point they wereinfluenced by God collectively,
(15:19):
not just individually,collectively.
And again, in the WesternHemisphere, we are more
individualistic, so we think ofthings in terms of me.
And in the kingdom of God, it'snot solely about me, it's about
(15:42):
we.
It's us.
Or as in the south, we sayy'all, instead of just me, it's
all of us.
And there's something aboutcollective worship.
(16:03):
When we worship Godcollectively, there is a power
that's released in our midstthat is unmistakable.
It's the very presence of God.
He inhabits the praises of hispeople.
Literally, he settles in andmakes his abode in worship.
(16:31):
He is surrounded by worshipright now.
And to worship God is differentthan worshiping something or
someone else.
However, there's influence.
We are people that are subjectto being influenced.
(16:53):
Our attention can be redirectedbecause we have the ability to
make choices.
We're not robots.
We have the ability to choose.
And so in making choices, thereare things that can draw our
(17:19):
attention away from God, andthey do all the time.
There are things all the timepulling us away, competing for
our attention, because what webehold, what we give our
attention to, we become like.
(17:52):
So other spirits want to havecontrol over our lives.
Some people want to have controlover your life, my life.
They want control.
And not just with individuals, they want control over a people
(18:13):
group.
Maybe a congregation of people,a fellowship, once serving God
with zeal.
But because our attention orsomeone's attention got drawn
elsewhere and started makingdecisions that were poor and
(18:37):
passing that information along, soon that group veers away
because their attention isredirected.
It's called worldly influence.
The environment we live in oftenpromotes materialism, placing a
higher value on worldly pursuitsand possessions.
(18:59):
Things that draw us away.
You know, it doesn't take muchto change course on a big ship.
Just a little adjustment veersit far enough away from its
(19:19):
course.
So eventually it doesn't arriveto its destination.
Ultimately, that is the desireof Satan.
He wants to control us andultimately to possess you and
(19:41):
me.
Spirits are like that.
The Holy Spirit, the Spirit ofGod, wants to possess us.
We are the possession of God.
When we've been bought withblood, we become his possession.
And in so doing, he wants tofill us up completely with
(20:04):
himself.
And unlike other spirits, hedoesn't take away life, he gives
life.
Hallelujah.
The very life of God, more andmore and more and more.
And we're seeing a move of Godon planet Earth right now that
(20:27):
is literally calling out to usto look to Him, to take note of
what's going on, and to turn ourlives toward Him, to repent,
literally, to change our mindand change our direction from
where we've been going and turnour eyes back onto Him.
(20:52):
Our attention back onto Him, ouraffection back unto Him, giving
Him our affection.
But there's a competition.
And that's what these chaptersare all about.
There's a competition.
And the relevancy is the factthat we as individuals and we
(21:15):
collectively experience the sametype of things that Israel
experienced, just in a differentway of presenting itself.
The variances are far too manyto try to list them all.
(21:37):
But the subtlety is the same.
It's subtle.
It's not blatant to begin with.
Later on it becomes very, very, very cavalier.
(21:58):
Very controlling.
But because we have this needwithin us at times to cope with
negative feelings, we want tohave those negative feelings
dealt with somehow.
(22:18):
So we look to other things todeal with those negative
feelings.
Sometimes it's drugs, sometimesit's sex, sometimes it's work.
Sometimes it is just simplydoing nothing.
(22:40):
We try to deal with the negativefeelings by just zoning out.
And also we realize that we havewhen we realize, I should say,
(23:00):
when we realize that we'veactually opened the door and
gone into a dangerousrelationship with someone or
something else, the feelings canbe that we've gone too far.
So we might as well just keep ongoing on deeper.
(23:25):
Because there's no hope for usanyway.
And that is a lie.
That is a lie.
If you're a person who has mademistakes and you've gone too
far, you've not gone away fromthe reach of God.
You've not gone out of hisreach.
(23:52):
According to David, King Davidsaid, if I even make my bed in
hell, you're there.
Meaning if I go to very thelowest place I possibly can get
to, you're there.
He will reach us.
He will reach you.
(24:13):
In fact, if you're hearing thisand you're in that condition,
just hearing my voice is anindication that there's hope.
For you to turn right now andchange your mind and change your
ways to embrace the reality thatthere's hope for you, there's
(24:38):
faith for you, there's love foryou.
And the greatest of those thingsis love.
And so 1 Samuel chapter 11 andJudges chapter 16 are going to
be our next points of reference.
(25:00):
But before we close off, I'dlike to have a word of prayer
with you right now.
Father, I thank you once again,God, for who you are, for who
you are, and how you're doingthings.
(25:21):
And how you're reaching intohearts and minds, even right
now, through this particularpodcast and through other
vehicles, you're making yourword known.
You're making your voice knownall over the planet.
(25:42):
And I ask that you'd use thisright now and bring hearts and
minds back into alignment withyou.
And Holy Spirit, that you woulddraw people into that intimate
relationship with Jesus, andthat Jesus, you would reveal the
heart of the Father.
(26:03):
You'd reveal the heart of God tous in an even deeper way so we
can be captivated by his heartof love.
And not drawn away by the thingsaround us.
And we pray these things in yourname, Jesus, standing here as
you in your name, saying, So beit.
(26:26):
Amen.
Amen, amen, amen.
Amen.
