Speaker 1 (00:03):
there's an amazing
point in the whole statistical
thing concerning the life ofJesus From the point that he was
born actually before he wasborn to his death, his
(00:25):
resurrection and his ascensionto the right hand of the Father
somewhere between 300 and 400prophecies about the Messiah he
fulfilled.
He fulfilled To give you anidea of that, the odds of just
(00:53):
eight of those prophecies beingfulfilled by one person is one
in 100 trillion.
To have somewhere between threeand four hundred of them
fulfilled is one to theseventeenth power, meaning one
with seventeen zeros behind it.
(01:16):
It's called a quintillion, aquintillion Meaning that there
really aren't any odds availablefor one person out of everyone
who had been born, who was aliveand who would be alive, to have
(01:41):
someone else come along andfulfill all those same
prophecies no one.
So there was really only oneperson who could do it, and it
(02:01):
was and is Jesus.
That alone is one of the mainreasons why I worship him as my
Savior, my Lord.
I worship him as God who camein the flesh and dwelt among us,
(02:23):
in the flesh and dwelt among us, and that he has in store for
us, those of us who believe inhim.
He has an eternal inheritancethat is so profound that the
scripture says that even if wecould think or imagine what it
(02:46):
might be, it's greater than thatand, folks, I have a very vivid
and active imagination thatstretches way out there, and if
I can think it and I can imagineit, it's still not enough.
In fact, I'm involved insomething that is supernatural,
(03:12):
meaning it's not naturallysomething that I can do on my
own.
That is to live like Jesus, tobe Christ-like.
It's impossible for me to dothat on my own.
Same goes for you.
(03:33):
We can't live like Jesus underour own power.
It requires us beingsupernaturally endued with the
power of his spirit, and thatcomes by believing in him.
(03:53):
It begins by believing in him, believing that who he said he
was and is is exactly who he wasand is and will be.
It begins by saying in ourhearts I believe you, jesus, and
(04:18):
I believe that you did all that.
You did for me.
I couldn't do it on my own, youdid, did for me.
I couldn't do it on my own, youdid it for me.
And by me placing my faith inyou, you count that to me as
righteousness.
You count that to anyone whodoes that as righteousness, to
(04:40):
all who call upon the name ofthe Lord, they'll be saved,
saved from the wrath of God.
And we're going to touch in onthe wrath of God in just a
moment, because that topic, again by itself, the wrath of
(05:00):
God, is sorely misunderstood andalso misrepresented, because it
really tends to make God out tobe some sort of angry being
that's just waiting toannihilate those who disobey.
And that is such an unfortunateunderstanding of the heart of
(05:46):
God, because his heart is tosave us from the inevitable
consequences of the acts ofSatan and those who follow in
his ways, that is, sin and death, rebellion, disobedience, has a
consequence to it.
And when you multiply it overand over and over and over and
over again for centuries, justthink about it.
(06:07):
If it were done against youover and over and over a
violation of who you are andwhat you stand for, in your face
, violating it, eventually you'dput an end to it.
And you think about it just inhuman terms.
If someone is unfaithful to aperson, someone who betrays
(06:33):
their marriage vows, and theyfind themselves in the arms of
someone else and they commitadultery and they're found out
by their spouse, the reaction oftheir spouse is not something
that's just nonchalant, likewell, sweetie, I'm so glad you
(06:57):
came to me to tell me about that.
I guess I understand.
We all have our troubles andyou know, let's just not worry
about that too much.
Are you kidding me that one actalone produces so much conflict
(07:17):
that we could spend the entirepodcast episode about that alone
and still really just barelyscratch the surface, let alone
having multiple hundreds andthousands of years of
misrepresentation of who you areand direct violation of what
(07:43):
you stand for, and directviolation of what you stand for.
There's wrath.
There's a consequence.
There's a consequence to poorbehavior.
There just is, I would tell mychildren, disobedience brings
(08:06):
pain, and when you disobey me,I'm going to correct you, I'm
going to spank you, but you'drather me spank you than you
(08:30):
having a police officer, 10years from now, put you in jail
because you were stilldisobedient.
It just got worse, and so thereis a consequence.
But this aspect of wrath comesinto play when we're talking
about the seven statements andthat's what we're talking about
in this podcast series the sevenstatements that Jesus made
(08:51):
while he was on the cross, andthey are one Father.
Forgive them, for they know notwhat they do.
Second, I tell you the truth.
Today you'll be with me inparadise.
Third, dear woman, behold yourson.
(09:17):
And to John he said behold yourmother.
And to John he said behold yourmother.
My God, my God, why have youforsaken me?
Is number four, and number fiveis what we're going to be
(09:38):
talking about today.
Is I thirst?
Number six?
It is finished.
Number seven, father, into yourhands.
I commend my spirit, but todaywe're looking at I thirst, and I
prefaced everything concerningprophecy and the fulfillment of
(10:00):
it, because that statement thatJesus made on the cross was
another fulfillment of prophecy,a statement that was given in
Psalm 69, verse 21.
Hundreds of years before Jesusever died on the cross, ever
(10:23):
died on the cross, davidprophesied what Jesus would
experience when he said in Psalm69, verse 21, they put gall in
(10:46):
my food and gave me vinegar formy drink.
Now, again, on the surface thatmight seem a little bit
coincidental, but when you put300 or 400 other prophecies
together that are so specificconcerning the very life of
(11:11):
Jesus that it is once againsomething that goes beyond there
being any odds that someoneelse would do it and that only
one person could do it, and thatis Jesus.
He is the way, the truth andthe life.
(11:34):
There are not many ways to comeinto a relationship with God.
We can't meditate our way intoit, we can't have a religious
commitment and find our way intoa relationship with God.
(11:54):
It takes us placing our faithin what Jesus did and the fact
that he cut covenant.
In what Jesus did and the factthat he cut covenant, a
relationship agreement that isso strong.
(12:15):
It was done in blood, a bloodcovenant relationship, and he
cut it with his own life, because we couldn't own life,
because we couldn't, and hedrank from a cup that we
couldn't drink from.
In fact, on the night in thekingdom, and Jesus, hearing what
(12:56):
they said, said to them.
He said can you drink the cupthat I'm about to drink?
And they said, well, yes, lord, not really knowing the depth of
what that meant.
(13:17):
And Jesus said not now, but youwill, because you follow me Now
interesting way of puttingthings drinking a cup, because a
(13:38):
cup represented more than justa beverage.
It represented something of arelationship experience,
something to be done together, something to be done with
meaning.
When you drink a cup, when youshare a cup, you share in the
(14:03):
meaning of what's being spokenof concerning that cup, just
like there's a cup of blessing.
There's a cup of blessing,there's a cup of salvation,
there's a cup of wrath, and thatcup of wrath is what Jesus was
(14:27):
referring to, that he was goingto drink a cup that they weren't
going to be able to drink from, and it was going to cause him
great suffering because he wasgoing to take upon himself the
(14:51):
wrath of God concerning the sinof all mankind.
He was going to bear the weightof the sins of the world, every
heinous act that you canimagine, and some of the
(15:13):
incidental acts that wouldconsider to be white lies but
nonetheless carry weight to them, all sins, all aspect of sins.
He would bear the penalty forthem on the cross.
(15:35):
He would take them upon himselfand crucify them and take the
wrath of God, pour it out uponhim, the separation from God,
the very suffering he would takeso that we wouldn't have to, so
we could experience what he has, and that is eternal life, the
(16:03):
very life of God.
He took upon himself our lifeso we could experience his life,
a divine exchange.
That's covenant what's mine isyours and what's yours is mine,
all of it.
(16:26):
When you cut covenant, you takeupon the privileges and
responsibilities found in thatcovenant, but also you take with
you in the privileges.
(16:47):
The strength of what's found inthat one that you cut covenant
with, and the strength that Godhas is superior to any power,
any name, anything in heaven andon earth, under the earth.
(17:19):
It's superior.
He has all power, dominion andauthority.
And he said I give it to you,to me, to you, and I want all of
you Give me, all of you inexchange for all of me.
(17:44):
Amazing, because in that supperthat they had together, they
drank from different cups andone of the cups was the cup of
salvation.
And he lifted that cup up andhe said this cup is done in
(18:17):
blood, my blood.
New covenant.
I cut a new covenant with you.
It is the blood, it is thedrink, it is the cup of
salvation and I give it to youand it's in my blood.
Drink it.
(18:39):
Wow, that cup is not the cup ofwrath, that's the cup of us
entering into covenantrelationship with Jesus.
(19:00):
That's when we take communion,we take his body, the bread, and
we take his blood, the cup, thesymbol of him cutting covenant
in his blood, blood on the cross.
We drink it, we do it inremembrance of him, we do it in
(19:23):
honor of him and what he did andin remembrance of the covenant
that he made, so we can standfirm in saying to the powers
that come against us I commandyou to leave in the name of
(19:48):
Jesus, because I have covenantwith him and I call upon the
covenant power of God to driveyou back.
Hallelujah, that's good news,folks.
But Jesus again, when you thinkabout what he endured just to
(20:12):
get to the cross.
He was deprived of havinganything to drink.
He was falsely accused over andover again by religious leaders
.
He was put on trial in a Romancourt and found innocent, and
(20:34):
yet the Jewish community ofleaders wanted to kill him.
They were so jealous but alsodriven by a power that they
didn't understand, and it wassatanic.
Satan wanted to get rid of him,but he didn't know he was
(20:56):
taking the bait.
He thought he was annihilatingand he was signing his death
sentence right there, killing aninnocent man.
Death sentence, right there, killing an innocent man.
(21:16):
Death sentence.
The once upon a time dignitaryin the course of heaven, is now
guilty of the blood of Jesus andhe will be dealt with
accordingly.
It's been determined and itwill come to a conclusion when
(21:42):
Jesus comes back and finalizeshis sentencing.
In the meantime, we have abattle going on, but the victory
has already been won and theend is secure.
We will experience difficulties, but not the wrath of God.
(22:06):
Jesus took that.
When he said I thirst, that wasthe cup he said that the others
couldn't drink from.
No one else could drink from itbut him.
No one else could drink the cupof wrath except Jesus.
He took upon himself the veryoutpouring of God's wrath while
(22:32):
hanging on the cross.
It wasn't by accident that hesaid I thirst.
It was in fulfillment ofprophecy.
He had the mind within himself, the strength, the commitment of
(22:55):
the only one and only Son ofGod to his Father to fulfill
what he said he was going tofulfill.
He had the mind to say seventhings.
I don't know if I could sayanything, or if I did, it would
(23:17):
be vile.
I'm sure Jesus did not say waittill I come off this cross,
you're going to pay for it andI'm going to make sure of it,
because you did me wrong.
He said Father, forgive them.
(23:39):
They don't know what they'redoing.
So same thing to me and you, because we've done some really
off-the-wall things.
Sometimes motivated by thepowers of darkness.
These people were motivated bythe powers of darkness.
These people were motivated bythe powers of darkness.
Sometimes it's by our own willthat we do things wrong, but
(24:07):
sometimes our will is infusedwith some outside sources that
are evil.
They're evil Regardless.
(24:28):
Jesus took upon himself theconsequences of those acts when
he said I thirst, and they gavehim a sponge full of gall and
vinegar, a drink made up by theRomans, and it was the cup.
It was the drink that no oneelse could drink.
Jesus drank it On the cross andhe took upon himself at that
(24:50):
moment the wrath of God, thatwhich none of us could bear.
He bore while on the cross, notin a state of strength, but in
a state of extreme weakness.
(25:12):
In the very weakest place a mancould be.
Christ defeated all the powersof darkness.
If you've ever encountered ademonic power in force, you can
(25:35):
see that they are actuallygreater than your human ability,
but they're not greater thanGod.
And in covenant we have thestrength of God given to us.
We have the kingdom of Godgiven to us.
(25:55):
We are citizens of the kingdomof God given to us.
We are citizens of the kingdomof God given to us.
It overrides the kingdom ofdarkness and we can utilize that
authority under submission tothe lordship of Jesus.
(26:15):
As we learn to walk with him.
More and more, we findourselves walking in more and
more power because of more andmore obedience, which brings
about greater and greater faith, confidence, trust.
You want your faith increased.
(26:38):
Become more obedient.
Confidence, trust.
You want your faith increased.
Become more obedient to thethings that God prompts you to
do, to say, to live out.
(27:00):
Jesus said I thirst.
It wasn't because he wasthirsty, even though he was
thirsty.
It was a different thirst.
It was also a thirst for souls, for the souls of mankind, for
you and I.
He was thirsty for relationshipwith us and for us to have
(27:25):
relationship with his Father, for us to have relationship with
Holy Spirit, for us to haverelationship with the Godhead,
so we could become one, even ashe is one, and join together as
one, together with God, as one.
(27:45):
That's the plan and to see thekingdom of God cover the earth
as the waters cover the sea.
Citizens walking together, nolonger experiencing anything
(28:10):
pertaining to sin and death.
Jesus took it when the soldiersgave him that sponge and he took
a sip.
That was the cup.
That was the cup.
That was it.
That was it.
(28:31):
And that is when Jesus Brokeloose.
He let go.
(28:53):
You heard him saying all hellbroke loose.
Well, that ain't nothing.
All Jesus broke loose.
He took the cup and the nextthing he's going to say is it is
(29:16):
finished.
He took it, he took it.
He took the wrath of God.
He took being forsaken on ourbehalf so we could be accepted
on his behalf.
We are accepted on behalf ofJesus.
(29:40):
Because of Jesus, we areaccepted, not just accepted.
We are clean, cleansed from oursins, no longer to be
remembered.
From our sins no longer to beremembered.
They're cast away into the seaof forgetfulness as far as the
(30:03):
east is from the west.
They're cast into oblivion.
Jesus didn't just cover oursins, he obliterated them.
He redeemed us from the curseand now we walk in the blessing
(30:24):
of God, the new covenant.
Hallelujah, let's pray.
Father, thank you once againfor who you are God, for what
you're doing, how you once again, for who you are, god, for what
you're doing, how you're doingit, where you're doing it, why
you're doing it, to whom you'redoing it to and through.
(30:47):
Thank you, lord, that you'redoing it to us and through us,
and we submit ourselves to you,we offer ourselves to you as
living sacrifices acceptable toyou because of Jesus.
We honor you, jesus, we exaltyou.
We thank you, holy Spirit, wegive honor to you and invite you
(31:12):
to manifest Jesus to us andthrough us, so we can walk in
his steps and be formed into hisimage.
We stand here in his name andwe say amen, amen, amen, amen.
All right, folks, I love you.
