When you hear the word "achievement," what comes up for you? Do you feel energized and inspired? Or do you instantly feel the pressure to “do more” or “be better”?
In this episode, we’re diving into the complex relationship many of us have with achievement. We’ll explore the ways achievement can be expansive and lead you toward creating the life you want, and the ways overachieving can trap you in a cycle of overworking that doesn't serve you.
I share my own journey from earning money as a child to building a business, and how praise for being “capable” and “responsible” wired me to equate achievement with safety for a long time. Once our nervous systems learn that achievement=safety, breaking that pattern can feel uncomfortable, even dangerous. However, when we release the unhelpful patterns we have regarding achievement, we can leverage the concept of achievement in a way that serves us. Changing your relationship to achievement is possible, and it may be the key to transforming your life.
Here’s the truth: if we pursue our goals while reinforcing internal patterns of spreading ourselves thin and running on a ramped-up nervous system, we may achieve them, but often at the cost of the very things we desired in the first place. The solution is staying grounded within your true goals and creating safety outside of achievement. Today, I’ll offer you practical ways to do both.
The desire to achieve is a powerful force within us, but I have seen and experienced firsthand what it is like when achievement becomes the primary focus, and the reason why gets lost along the way. I'm so glad you're here to change this pattern with me. Let’s get started!
