(00:30):
Ciao friends and thank you fortuning in to another episode of
Life out loud. I am your hostDesire Melfi Bozzo. Friends,
this is the eighth and finalepisode of season one. I am not
entirely sure how this all flewby so fast. But here we are.
(00:52):
This season has truly been ablast. And I've covered a lot of
topics we began with the COVIDpivot and a compelling why how
this podcast came to be. Italked you through some secrets
to a happy life. The perfectmorning gone awry. Oh, my gosh,
(01:12):
that was a doozy. But I willhave you know that I have lived
in a fluff pulp free zone eversince. Hey! We talked about
living life in action and howunchecked injuries can lead to
fractures. And if I can betotally transparent, pain. We
(01:34):
unpacked gratitude fueledhappiness and my obsession with
it. And in the last episode, Iposed the question, what are you
reaching for? If you missed it,or any of these, definitely go
back and have a quick listen, Iguarantee they will be worth
your time.
So we are up to our ears andholiday cheer over here. And I
(01:57):
thought it was appropriate forthis last episode of season one
to slow it way, way down. Sweetfriends, grab your favorite cup
of coffee and cozy and for thenext few minutes. Take a deep
breath. And let's talk throughthe art of preparation. There is
(02:19):
so much filling our to do listthese days, between presents to
buy and wrap and send. Anabundance of holiday parties to
attend, cookies and delightfuldesserts to bake. If we let them
the to do list will get the bestof us. It's like a fact. It's so
(02:40):
easy to get wrapped up in thecommercialism of the holiday
season. I know this because ithappens to me very easily. Plus,
Can I be honest in the supersafe space and say that presents
kind of make my heart flutterand dance with delight. It can
definitely be a recipe fordisaster if it goes unchecked.
(03:03):
The more I thought about thisepisode, the more I knew it had
to be about preparation betweenthe holidays and the beginning
of a new year. I just felt likeI had to attempt to answer the
question. How do you powerfullyenjoy the holiday season and all
the hustle and bustle and begina new year with joy? The answer
(03:27):
kept coming back to the wordpreparation. There's a super
cliche quote out there that saysfailing to prepare is preparing
to fail. And you also have tosay it with that voice too. It's
so cliche that it's reallybananas. But it's also
completely true. We can onlywing it for so long before the
(03:49):
wheels actually start comingoff, right? In an effort to help
you enjoy the holiday season, regardless of the amount of
hustle to your bustle, and toensure that you are ready to
begin a new year with nothingbut joy. I've put together some
tips and tools to get you on theroad to preparation.
(04:12):
The first one is simplify yourspace. There was a time in life
when I was lobbying Hubbz very, very hard for a tiny home. It
was pre-child when the tinyhouse craze was just kicking
off. I had watched probably onetoo many tiny house nations
(04:35):
while simultaneously discoveringMarie Kondo. I was tidying
spaces while asking if the itemsI was keeping sparked joy. It
was actually liberating. I kidyou not. Well, I never did punch
it over the goal line lobbyingfor that tiny house. I did
actually end up with a very tidyhouse. I read once that living
(05:01):
in minimalism actually pushesyou to spend time in the present
moment. Friends, there'ssomething wholesome and good
about getting your physicalspace in order. Simplification
just feels good. It gives usspace to breathe. It offers
(05:22):
space to think, space to do thedoing of life. So in the spirit
of preparation, while stillhaving so much joy, begin by
simplifying your physical space.
The next step is to give worrythe boot. I know, easier said
(05:42):
than done. But when we worryabout tomorrow, we actually Rob
ourselves of the joy that todayhands us. That's not just a cute
saying it really is the truth.
Friends, I know how much thereis to think about. And I know
how much there is to worryabout, especially in the season.
(06:03):
Some days, literally everywherereturn, there is another worry
inducing thing happening to usor around us. But we can't cave
to the worry. The Gospel of Lukewere told who of you, by
worrying can add a single hourto your life? Since you cannot
(06:26):
do this very little thing Why doyou worry about the rest?
Friends, it's not Cavalier forme to say God's got us, each and
every one of us. So it's time togive worry the boot. All it does
is steal our joy and the beautyof the present moment.
(06:51):
The next one is to plan yourwork, and work your plan. This
sounds incredibly simple. Irealize that. But in a world
that pulls for your attention,at every pass, it is so easy to
get sidetracked. If we want topowerfully enjoy the holiday
(07:14):
season and start the new yearfilled with joy. We must become
masters at planning andexecution when it comes to our
plans. One way personally, thatI do this is by blocking off
time, like in my calendar forspecific things. So one example
(07:35):
is early in the morning beforemy house wakes up. I wake up. I
make a cup of coffee, and Ispend my time in the Word. Is
that always perfect? Absolutelynot. But it is something that
I'm intentional about. Anotherthing that I plan, like in my
(07:57):
calendar I block off time forare my workouts. And friends, I
would love to sit here and tellyou that working out gives me
life and nothing tastes as goodas fit feels. But the truth is
really sitting curled up in achair with a good book or can I
be honest, a Ted Lasso marathongives me life. And I can promise
(08:20):
you that cupcakes tastes betterthan skinny feels any day of the
week. That's a promise. And sofor these reasons, because I'm
lazy and like sweets, it'simperative that I plan workouts
into my schedule. So when weblock off intentional time in
(08:42):
our life for things that areimportant to us, it ends up
giving these things priority.
Friends, I encourage you tofigure out your priorities. And
then plan your work and workyour plan around them and be non
negotiable about the execution.
(09:03):
And the last way we canpowerfully enjoy the holiday
season and begin the new yearwith joy is are you ready? Know
when it's time to punt.
Sometimes in life, after we doour best at simplifying our
physical space. After we clearout the worry that's in our
(09:24):
mind. After we plan our work andwe work our plan the outcome
isn't always what we want. Wereach a point and I know we have
all been there. When we haveworked the downs we have fought
for the inches. But sometimes wejust don't get to where we need
(09:46):
to be. I can't talk to you aboutpreparation and living
powerfully with joy withoutacknowledging the fact that
sometimes in life through ourbest most thought out, well
prepared plans. We just have topunt. It's not fun. We don't
like it. It's frustrating. And Ieven say it is maddening
(10:11):
sometimes. There are occasionswhen we punt. And then we march
our butts to the sidelines andwe regroup, and then we come
back stronger than ever.
Friends, the art of preparationis something that we can all
become masterful at. It issomething that we can work
(10:34):
toward every single day. Whileliving with full out joy may
seem unattainable, I can assureyou that it's not. James Clear -
is amazing, by the way. He'salso an author and a speaker
wrote about the aggregation ofmarginal gains. I am obsessed
with this. This tells us that ifwe can move the needle 1%
(11:01):
everyday toward the goal, in oneyear, we can become, Are you
ready? Are you ready for thisnumber 37 times better at
something. He says and I quote,There is power in small
improvements and slow gains.
Can I get an amen to thatbecause that's incredible. To
(11:22):
powerfully enjoy the holidayseason in the middle of all the
hustle and bustle and begin thenew year with joy. All you have
to do is move the needle 1%Everyday. Simplify your physical
space, give worry the boot, planyour work and work your plan.
(11:46):
And when it all falls apart, never ever be afraid to go ahead
and punt.
Friends I truly can't believe Ihave an entire season in the
books - that's crazy. It hasbeen nerve-wracking.
(12:07):
Exhilarating at times stressfulat times, but it's also been
incredibly fun and superexciting all rolled into one. I
really hope that you've enjoyedthis content and more than
enjoyed it. Friends I hope thatthis was fruitful in your life.
(12:28):
So please leave me a note in thecomments. I always love hearing
from you. Come back next timeand let's throw more
encouragement around likeconfetti. But be careful if you
get too close. You just mightget some on you. Until we meet
again remember there is alwaysalways always something to be
(12:50):
thankful for. Ciao.
