Desire Melfi Bozzo (00:06):
Ciao and welcome to Life out loud. I am
your host Desire Melfi Bozzo.
We are going to use this spaceto share experiences and help
you find lasting, unshakable, unwavering, unmessable-with joy
and gratitude. We're going to bethrowing around encouragement, a
little bit like confetti andgiving you support to live your
very best life.

(00:30):
Ciao and thank you for tuning-into another episode of Life Out
Loud. If we don't know eachother yet. I am your host
Desire Melfi Bozzo. If you'relistening to this live and
stateside, we are coming in hot, fresh of a Thanksgiving weekend.
It is my deepest hope that yourswas filled with love and

(00:52):
gratitude. I hope you were ableto get really present to the
peace that the practice ofgratitude brings. Some of us
may, just may have endured theMondayest Monday to ever Monday
yesterday. But alas, here weare. You guys, we made it.

(01:12):
Congratulations. I am currentlythrowing you a high five over
the airwaves. So I'm going tosay that we're officially
galavanting into the holidayseason. Would you agree with me
on that one? I want to talk toyou about where your focus is
and what you've been reachingout to lately. That might seem a

(01:36):
little forward. But nobody'ssurprised about that, are we?
No. Okay, here we go.
So, friends, we all reach outfor something in this world,
right? Our mindset determineswhere we go. So I really believe
we need to be intentional aboutwhat we're thinking. Where our
focus is. We spend our days ourweeks our months our years

(02:01):
reaching for something. And Iwant to talk to you about what
it is that you're reaching for.
For this episode. I'm pullingsome of my context from the
Bible. And as I've said before,we all pull our inspiration from
somewhere. This is where some ofmine sometimes is pulled from.
So you don't have to believe thesame things I believe. I'm just
asking that you listen with areally open mind and definitely

(02:24):
an even more open heart. Okay?
Can we make that agreement?
Let's go.
In the Bible, there is a womanthat is talked about in the
books of Matthew, Mark, andLuke. Some references call her
the bleeding woman. Some callher the woman with an issue of

(02:45):
blood. As I read these storiesover and over, you know,
comparing them contrasting them, digging into each gospel
account. They're all a littlebit different, but they're a
little bit the same. I ofcourse, see her as the woman
with the issue of blood becausethat's how the world has
identified her right? But Ifound something bigger than

(03:07):
that. I see her as a human, andshe is broken, and she's
hurting. She is yearning for ahealing that hasn't come. But
she is steadfast and she isunwavering. Like unmessable-with
unwavering. She's faithful inher belief of who holds her

(03:31):
cure. Perhaps that is where thisfinds you today. Hurting,
yearning for healing, an answer, something that has yet to come.
Maybe you are steadfast andunwavering, like maybe you got
your focus on lock, or maybe, friends, maybe you're weary. I

(03:53):
don't know where this finds you.
But wherever it is. I hope todaythis episode is fruitful for
your heart.
So we first encountered thewoman in Matthew 9:20-21. It's
just too short versus theshortest of all the accounts. A
woman who had been subjected tobleeding for 12 years, we read

(04:15):
that she came up behind Jesusand thought to herself, if only
I can touch his cloak, I can behealed. Can I ask you a
question? This might be weird, but have you ever thought that -
asking for a friend? Have youever thought that Jesus can heal
anything? And if only he werehere like in the flesh, then

(04:37):
surely he would heal what needshealing? Can I be transparent in
this safe space and tell youthat I have thought that very
thing more times than I reallywant to admit but like here I am
admitting it. I've prayed thewords sweet Jesus, if I could
just touch even the hem of yourcloak, surely you would fix the

(04:59):
thing that so desperately needsyou in this moment. I imagine
Jesus turning to me just as heturns to the woman in verse 22.
And I imagine him saying, Takeheart, Daughter, your faith has
healed you. Maybe that's supersilly. And maybe you're just
thinking, I'm completely weirdright now. But maybe it's not

(05:23):
silly, I don't know. In mydeepest wounds, that's where I
focus goes. My focus goes to thecure - the only one I know.
The woman, so the woman'srepeated, in Mark 5: 25-34. Here

(05:44):
we learn that she suffered agreat deal under the care of,
now we know many doctors, wehave more information. We know
now that she spent all she had,and she never got better.
Instead, she got worse. She hadheard about Jesus because news
of his healing power wasspreading across the land. With

(06:06):
unwavering faith and relentlesshope. She resiliently fought her
way through the crowd ofpresumably men, determined to
get her healing. The woman gotto Jesus and she touched his
cloak and believing he wouldheal her. Verse 29, tells us and

(06:27):
this is amazing thatimmediately, immediately, like,
immediately, her bleedingstopped. And she felt that her
body was free from thesuffering. Can you imagine? How
many times do we find ourselvesin this same place, relentlessly
going after the thing that wethink is going to bring the

(06:50):
healing the only thing that weknow that can bring the healing
and determined to free ourselvesfrom what ails us unwavering in
our quest, to free ourselvesfrom suffering? This woman and
her relentless, fierce faith, friends, it leaves me in awe.

(07:10):
The healing that she received inan instant leaves me completely
inspired.
The final time we see her is inLuke 8:43-48. So this account
tells us that there's no onethat could heal her. We already
know the doctors tried, and shespent all she had. This one is

(07:34):
saying like, there is no one, noone that could heal her. It
tells us she touched just theedge of his cloak, and she was
healed. You guys what I loveabout, I love about Luke is it
this account takes us from thedespair of the reality that

(07:55):
there's no one on earth thatcould heal her to the miraculous
truth. That she had just touchedthe edge of his cloak and was
healed instantly.
We learned from these accountsthat she had exhausted all
earthly options and resources.
She saw the best of the bestdoctors. She spent every penny

(08:18):
she had. And she kept gettingworse. Until Jesus. Perhaps
there's something in your lifethat needs healing. Maybe it's
your physical body. Maybe it's arelationship that's broken,

(08:41):
seemingly beyond repair. Maybeit's a fractured or flawed way
of thinking that you can't seemto shake. Maybe it's depression,
maybe it's anxieties. Maybe it'sa behavior in your life that has
now become a habit that seems tohold you captive. My friends

(09:04):
this season, we will all bereaching out for something.
Something to fill us. Somethingto heal us. Something to comfort
us. Friends, I encourage you tocall to mind the woman in the
Gospels. The one who was brokenand hurting the one who is

(09:27):
yearning for healing. The onewith the steadfast and
unwavering faith. Sweetlisteners. I believe that we
serve a God that is here toprove his goodness. He's proved
it for 1000s of generationssince the beginning of time.

(09:48):
From Noah, to Abraham, to Sarahto Rebecca, Joseph and Moses,
David. And there's Esther andHannah, and of course, the woman
of the Gospels. Friends, Ibelieve our God continues to

(10:10):
prove his goodness to you and tome, to the people we love to our
friends to our families. As youreach out for something this
season, I encourage you, withall my heart to reach out and
touch the Savior.

(10:34):

you. I hope it offeredencouragement during a season

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
