Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey everyone, thanks for joining me today.
It's just me today, in adifferent bit of setup, trying
something new with a shortlittle episode.
I've been talking with a lot ofclients lately about
understanding why certain peopleare successful and other people
aren't successful in theirfitness journey, and I see so

(00:20):
often that your A-types theseare a lot of the types of people
that I tend to work with areyour data-driven,
science-focused people who areusually of a corporate
background, business owner.
I find that they aredata-driven.
They live life highly accordingto their routine and they are

(00:44):
working with me to becomehealthier or lose weight because
they have sacrificed that toincrease their productivity in
other areas of their life, usually their business or their
work, and so fitness has fallento the wayside.
They're usually reallysuccessful making
transformations because they canjust follow the data, because

(01:06):
it's now become important towork on this thing, and so it's
a much simpler process of hey,you need to exercise this many
times a day, you need to eatthese things, you need to count
these macros, you need to followthese habits and check off
these lists.
And it doesn't mean that it'seasy, doesn't mean that they

(01:30):
don't always run into problems, because there's always problems
in anything you do, but I find, more often than not, most of
those people tend to have asimpler path towards success
because they've already reachedsuccess doing things that follow
the numbers because of theircareer.
They're usually rathersuccessful business-oriented

(01:51):
people, and I find that patternexists.
Again, there's always outliers.
However, what I've found forthe majority of other people
because, let's face it, noteverybody owns a business, not
everybody has that, you know, really high performing I say
high performing like executivelevel of corporate background

(02:14):
they don't necessarily have thatexperience of that level of
routine in place, and so I findthat you need a little bit more
creativity, a little bit moreimagination when it comes to
making a change in yourlifestyle, specifically with
health and with anything really.
So I like to relate it back to,you know, if we use a diet

(02:34):
analogy, as far as trying tofigure out what to eat, I always
want to go over to my fridgeand just imagine that I'm
picking stuff out of the garden,I'm searching for fruit in the
jungle, essentially and when Ifind things that are ripe, I
consume as much of that as Ipossibly can, and then I go back

(02:56):
on the search.
Another analogy you could use islike a puzzle piece.
You're living this lifestylewhere something works right now,
and if you found it and if it'snot working right now, well,
you have to start shaping apuzzle piece.
You have to start trying thingsto figure out what is going to
work, and then, as time goes on,you change, inevitably, whether

(03:17):
you want to or not, becausetime is not on your side.
You're going to get older, yourbody is going to change, your
health is going to change, evenif you are quote unquote staying
the same.
Things are going to change, andso you have to keep searching
for fruit, or you have to keepshaping new puzzle pieces, and

(03:39):
you go through seasons in yourlife in which something that
you've used in the past might beworking right now.
It might not be working rightnow.
You might have to switch tosomething else that you've done
before, or you might have tojust shape a whole new puzzle
piece.
The good thing is that if youjust keep doing it, if you stay
consistent, if you staydisciplined all these things
that we talk about every singletime we seem to do a podcast is

(04:04):
you'll discover all these puzzlepieces and you'll be able to
plug and play them as you goalong and then that becomes
where really the creativity itlies in your lifestyle, because
you can just see where theproblems are, what puzzle piece
needs to go in to its place, andthen things start to flow and

(04:24):
you start, before you know it,owning your Monday through
Friday.
That doesn't mean you can blowthings out on the weekend, but I
love that phrase owning yourMonday through Friday.
If you can do that, then morethan likely you're going to
enjoy some of the things thatyou were doing in your free time
.
When you're not at work becausemost of you listening probably

(04:45):
work Monday through Friday orfive days a week you can enjoy
time with your family.
You can enjoy eating good fooddoesn't have to be perfect food
that is data-driven all the time, but you still get results and
you value those things becauseyou've been disciplined Monday
through Friday, five days a week.

(05:05):
I was talking with a clientearlier this morning actually,
and we were talking about how inthe past this actually wasn't
even a client.
It was another trainer, afriend of mine.
We were talking at the gym andwe were talking about how in the
past, we lived these lives, where it was very data-driven.
He was talking about keto, doing the keto diet for a couple

(05:26):
of years, and how you know, when he would go out with
friends, he would have tosacrifice having a beer or
having dessert so that he couldeat a steak with butter and
broccoli.
And though that strategy mightwork for a lot of people and it
surely does otherwise itwouldn't be so popular for him.

(05:46):
He felt like it was putting himin a box where he felt like he
had to sacrifice sociallyexperiencing happiness with his
friends, with his family, because he was doing this thing
that the data said, that hebelieved the science said at the
time, was the best thing to dofor him to hit his goals.
And what happens is is that youend up realizing that maybe the

(06:11):
goal isn't necessarily worth it, or maybe it's actually
defeating the purpose of thegoal.
The goal is to feel better, hiswas and to be healthier and to
perform well, and what he saidhe finds now is that now, though
, he's not doing keto, he drinkssome beer, he has some dessert
every now and then.
Having that more balancedapproach allows him to find

(06:34):
happiness and less stress.
That brings his cortisol downand therefore he performs better
, and so that's just one exampleof how you can be doing the
things that you think you needto do and following the data
when the reality is is that youcould be missing the entire
point of what you're trying toaccomplish because you're so

(06:54):
focused and trying to live lifein a laboratory, according to
the science, when the reality isis that you have this puzzle
you need to solve, and it's notjust data that's going to help
you get there.
It's going to be searching forsolutions that you can sustain
and that bring you balance andfulfillment in multiple areas of

(07:14):
your life.
We happen to be talking aboutalcohol.
We can all agree that alcoholis bad for your body, but
alcohol does have some benefits.
It helps you become morecreative.
It helps you sociallycommunicate Maybe not
communicate with people, butconnect with people and that can
serve you in a lot of areas ofyour life.
It can serve you in yourrelationships, meeting new

(07:36):
people, maybe meeting a partner.
It can serve you in business, creating those relationships so
that you can have a moresuccessful career or financially
make the deal happen.
And so it's not that you shouldchoose it and sacrifice your
health.
It's that maybe it's worth itsometimes to take that notch on

(07:58):
your physical health because youhave worked to get other things
in place.
It's okay here and there, totake that little notch when you
realize that you are going totake care of yourself.
When it gets back to Mondaythrough Friday, and that's going
to outweigh that physical notchyou might take on Saturday if
you have a couple drinksEspecially if you've already

(08:19):
worked yourself to the pointover years of being disciplined
and that's no longer a problemyou might gain more from that
social experience using alcoholas a tool.
I'm not advocating you to godrink every single weekend not
at all but what you can do isand my point of this whole

(08:40):
episode is think about whatthings are most important right
now and if those things are mostimportant, then you can
sacrifice some of the otherstuff and follow the data to
what is the most important thingfor you to fix right now and
then, after you've gotten somecredit right you've owned your
Monday through Friday and you'vegot consistent with doing that

(09:03):
figure out what other things areimportant and how to start
balancing those equations sothat you can keep doing all of
them at a high level, and how tostart balancing those equations
so that you can keep doing allof them at a high level and you
can become more happy and morefulfilled, rather than just
putting yourself into thatlaboratory, putting yourself
into that box, trying to findwhat you absolutely think is

(09:23):
going to make you happy, whichmost likely is not going to be
hitting that number on yourscale or having washboard abs.
Hope you got something from thisepisode.
