Welcome to Lifestyle
Strength, your guide to
mastering health and well-beingin the real world.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
I'm Ariel, a massage
therapist with over a decade of
experience in holistic health, and I'm here with Lucas, a
seasoned fitness coach, who'stransformed the lives of
hundreds in Northwest Arkansas.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
We're here to share
real stories and expert insights
about embracing a healthylifestyle while balancing the
everyday hustle.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Join us as we explore
practical ways to achieve
wellness and thrive amidstlife's challenges.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Let's dive in.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
So something me and
Lucas talk about a lot is kind
of just, in our fields, hypocrisy, how often we see it
in other people and have to holdourselves accountable.
And I know, when I first camein, I think your business model
was just a little bit different.
Um, and then it's drasticallychanged and I know I had seen
(00:50):
you on social media, I thinkFacebook, and I was like wait,
that's Ben.
I was like wait Also, I waslike wait, he has another kid.
But and I don't know if thatwas maybe the motivator but your
lifestyle has kind of changedand I'm curious why, what, what,
what took place that?
Maybe you moved in?
I know you're doing CrossFitright, so, like I know you
(01:11):
didn't do that 10 years ago, no,I didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
I did work out.
Okay, I did exercise, I'vealways tried to practice what I
preach.
Okay, Um for the most part Um.
So some of it is just my ownhealth discovery figuring out
more about my own body and myown health.
So even on my, like you know, you graduate and then, at least
for me, it's been still acontinual educational journey.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
Learning more.
So even like the chiropracticbiophysics certification, I've
only had that for three years.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Okay, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
So that was something
I pursued after graduation and
continue to try and improve mypractice and how we're taking
care of people.
Some of that comes fromfrustrations of I couldn't help
this person.
Why not?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Right, how can I?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
if.
I have another case like thishow can I help that person, even
though I wasn't able to helpthem?
Speaker 1 (02:02):
at that time or if
they decide to come back to me
with the same issue, can I nowhelp them?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
right, um, and so
then, discovering things about
my own health, my own body Idealt with and reason why I
never did chiropractic I'm sorryCrossFit it's because I
actually would have lower backissues so I would run or
exercise and I would get my backthrown out and this is I'm
practicing.
Know like I'm adjusting peopleand my back is still like
(02:29):
getting jacked up here and thereand I'm like why?
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Right.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
So I figured out that
I actually had a congenital
anatomical issue, that my rightleg is almost 10 millimeters
shorter than my left.
Wow, and that is why I kepthaving back problems because,
exercising standing, whatever itmay be, was continually putting
stress on my back.
Okay, and so, like if I sat, myhips were level Right.
(02:53):
And then when I would stand, myhips would be off Right, and so
that created a lot of problems, and so once I figured that out.
I actually was able to like allright now I can actually run, I
can exercise and I can throwweight on my body now and not
have a problem.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
Do you have to do it
a certain way, or do you are you
?
Did you figure out?
I need to like a little bit ofa lift in a shoe.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yeah, so I, I.
I now wear in all my shoeseight millimeter lift on the
right side.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Wow, and that just,
and it just leveled it out, it
resolved it.
It wasn't like being slightlyoff, so you can get an
adjustment.
Yours is enough that you'relike I better put that lift in
my shoe.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Oh yeah, a hundred
percent Like cause.
I got again adjusted throughchiropractic school.
After chiropractic I would goonce a week and I still go once
a week to get adjusted for myown wellness.
Um but everyone that wouldcheck me is like man, you're,
you're you own wellness buteveryone that would check me is
like man your right leg is halfinch shorter and it's like, okay
, why I'm adjusting, I'mrehabbing myself.
(03:52):
And so it boiled down to itwasn't a functional thing, it
was anatomical, so I had toaddress that, Otherwise I was
going to keep having issues.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
When did you discover
that and is that how you
decided?
Well, okay, now I can, can run,I can put weight on my body and
I can do something likeCrossFit.
Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yep so, and that was
part of chiropractic biophysics
too.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Okay, yeah.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Further analysis of
anatomical variances, congenital
anomalies and how that all fitsinto taking care of a person.
Yeah, because some of some ofour education there was
differing of views on leg lengthdiscrepancy.
Most chiropractors are trainedto check for it.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Right.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
But oh, you've got a
short leg and that means you
have this, this and this.
We're going to adjust that andyou should be fine, right, which
for some people that worksRight, and then for some people
it doesn't.
And then they're like why whydo I keep hurting?
I keep getting adjusted,doesn't?
And then they're like why whydo I keep hurting?
I keep getting adjusted, keepgetting massage, rehabbing it.
Well, yeah, you have aanatomical problem that we got
to fix that.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
Right, okay.
Yeah, that is so cool that yousay that I don't know if you've
taken any courses or doneanything where you discover
about yourself too.
I've done that, but I will tellyou.
You talk about the clients thatyou weren't able to help.
Sometimes.
I'll be like you know what youtalk about the clients that you
weren't able to help.
Yeah, sometimes I'll be likeyou know what?
I'm just going to find a classjust for this one client that I
have.
Like you know, you can have allthese people and you're like
(05:11):
stuck on.
Okay, I've done all the thingsthat I know and this person I
need to find a course.
That just specifically.
And sometimes I'll be incourses and I'll be like oh yeah
, okay, okay, this is going tohelp this person.
And now we'll make a list, I'llput it in my notes, like, okay,
this is for this person.
And then I'll come back andI'll be like, hey, I took a
course and this is for you.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
And it can be so
frustrating too, like when
you're working with that person.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Because you know
they're putting everything you
possibly can to solve theirproblem.
And I think that's where a lotof practitioners and a lot of
customers get turned off topractitioners as a whole Because
they're like, well, that didn'twork and they link that
together Right.
And so then they're justjumping ship to the next thing.
(06:02):
That sounds good.
Right, oh, that's true, notsticking it out, and it's really
hard if you haven't gotten themon a timeline, or at least
gotten them to start to like, have that benefit.
Yes, right, so just gettingthem that small win.
We've talked about that a lot.
It's finding that small winthere and letting them like not
just like, recognize it, butlike, consciously, like, feel
that win Right?
Speaker 2 (06:23):
I think that's huge.
So, speaking of small wins, what would you say, through your
journey in health, wellness, fitness and being a chiropractor
for 14 years I mean that's along time what is a personal win
for you and a personal win foryour business when you think
(06:46):
about your clientele and howyou're serving in the community?
Cause I know you're doing a lotof things in the community
aside from and through yourbusiness, which that alone, in
my opinion, is a huge win forthe community, Just that we have
small businesses that arewilling to do all these amazing
things.
but for yourself personally andfor your, your business, what
would that look like?
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Hmm.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
So are you saying,
like what has happened, that I
would consider, or what would Iconsider?
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Ooh, Can you give me
both, if you just want them both
, yeah, I love it.
Oh yeah, bring it on.
He's like oh my gosh, you justmade it harder.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
Yeah Well, so at
least in my personal life, you
know the fact that I was able tostart CrossFit.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
I think it was.
I think was huge for me in myown health journey and
transformation and how I felt.
So there's just been smallthings that I've picked up on as
I'm trying to help others andthen also like, okay, how can I
apply this to myself?
So making small dietary changesthat have helped me.
So within the last two years,I've probably felt the best I've
(07:53):
ever felt in my entire life.
Yeah, and that's just like youknow, with a leg length
discrepancy, or like I don't doeggs and I don't do avocado okay
, as a part of again discoveringI have food sensitivities, so
that's taken away a lot of otherissues as well.
Yeah, so just the continualpursuit for me of let me get
better so I can take care of myfamily better, so I can be
(08:14):
present for my family has been ahas been a win Um and then in
the business too.
We just added another doctor,so this will be the third guy a
doctor that.
I've that.
I've had work with me, Um, andthat to me is a win.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
That.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
I have guys that
trust me enough to want to come
and learn and work with me aswell.
And my big idea I got trainedwhen I got out of school by some
mentors, and so I want to bethe same for guys coming out of
school, because it can befrightening and scary.
Like all right, how am I goingto do this?
Where am I going to go?
What am I going to do?
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Absolutely, and so
being a resource for that.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
So that's where Dr
Jacob.
He's joined the practice freshout of school.
He's a great, awesomechiropractor, but again with the
idea of come learn from me andthen go do.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah, absolutely
You're going to lift other
people up.
I love on your first answerabout just making those simple
changes.
So many people are looking forthat like I need to do keto, and
that so many people are likelooking for that, Like I need to
do keto and like that's goingto solve like all these problems
in my life, and it's like no,here's somebody who's in it,
who's had this amazing journeyand it's just this little simple
(09:21):
things over time that can makeso much difference that you
don't notice tomorrow.
You don't notice next week, butlike over the course of months
and years, and those things addup and that's, that's awesome.
I mean, that's just awesome,like that's really cool.
And then the second point, likebeing able to pass that
(09:41):
information down and somethingthat you're obviously passionate
about.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yeah, I love being,
you know, a resource for my
profession and and helping us insome regards to to have an
identity even more so, wherethere's clarity, you know what
you're going to get when you goto a chiropractor and people
trust us across the board withour profession.
Uh, we still have a long waysto go and and people feeling
(10:06):
more and more comfortable andknowing what we do, but trying
to help kind of push thatforward.
More, yeah, for sure, more andmore.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
I like how you had
mentioned this new guy.
You're like, oh, he's great.
And some people would say, well, anybody fresh out of school,
how can they be great?
They have no experience undertheir belt.
I can personally say, mentoringand doing what I do as well,
the same thing that you do.
I have a young guy.
He's less than a year in andI've been mentoring him and he's
(10:34):
and they are what I call goldmines.
They are the people that youknow.
They chose the right field.
Yeah, um, because they areskilled, they are passionate.
Um, they're like empty vases,they're.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
They're like, they're
like fill me I want sponges
sucking up all the information, yes and teaching you at the same
time, oh, a hundred percent.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Like I, don't know
about you.
You get passionate, passionateabout what you do.
It refuels me 11 years in andso sometimes people are like, oh
, but you don't really chargefor certain mentoring and stuff
like that.
I'm like you know why?
Because I am getting somethingin return and it's keeping me
fresh in my business and mymodel and it also holds me
accountable and makes mecontinue my continuing ed,
(11:13):
because I hold them to astandard and it's like I have to
be doing that same thing.
Yeah, yeah.
So what are your wins for thefuture?
What does that look like?
Speaker 3 (11:22):
um, well, some of
that.
So like in business, continuinggrowth, um we, it's going to
happen.
We have a new building that, uh, we purchased in march.
Okay, talking about delayedgratification, though, there is
a tenant in the building.
That will not be done until mayof 2026, wow, so I would love
(11:45):
to be in that building right nowwow you got ways to go, because
it's double the size of wherewe're at.
Okay, which we could use.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yeah, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
But so it'll be a win
when that actually comes to
fruition.
Okay, it's like God said here'syour future building, but you
can't have it for, you know, twoand a half years.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Okay, cool, there we
go.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
So I mean, owning a
building is awesome in and of
itself.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
I awesome in and of
itself.
I'm very grateful that we gotto that point and doors opened,
and so that will be a win whenwe actually open our doors in
that new facility for thepractice.
That's awesome.
And then you know personally.
You know with my family.
I have three daughters Keepingme young.
I have a 16 month old.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Yeah, so see I, I,
I'll be transparent.
When I saw you on social mediaagain, I was like, oh my gosh,
Ben has radically changed hislife.
Oh my gosh, Ben had another kid.
And then I was like, oh, oh mygosh, I think that kid was his
fuel.
Yeah, that's really what Ithought.
I don't know because, but itsounds like you were already.
Speaker 3 (12:49):
you already started
before then, somewhatwhat yeah,
but those changes kind of openedthe door for my wife and I to
have the third, because she hadquite a few health challenges
and we were on a journey withher health, getting her well and
feeling well, and then she'slike, let's have a third.
You know, when she finally waslike feeling well enough Because
(13:10):
she wanted to have more, butafter a second her health is
terrible.
Um, she had a lot of healthchallenges, autoimmune things
and God you know, through thatjourney and trying to figure it
out, getting her healthier, getting me healthier, um, and
then, yeah, the third.
So it's just kind of like I waslike, all right, here you go.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Isn't that crazy
though You're saying, when we
got our bodies healthy, we wereable to multiply.
Yeah, and this is beautiful.
I love that.
I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
I mean.
I have a fresh baby so for meI'm like oh my gosh Like, but
that is so.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
That is so amazing to
me.
Um, and that is that's almostlike the ultimate results of
living a healthy lifestyle.
Or even when you're struggling, like she was struggling, and
you find your way back to beable to have that that beautiful
uh, you know um outcome.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
I guess you could say
, yeah, 100 yeah, and so even in
the personal life continued, uh, success.
You know my wife, her health isa lot better but wanting to see
, see my entire family healthierand vibrant, and you know their
side just rocking and rolling.
I think you know, again, that'sa continual like process and
(14:22):
work, yeah, but she'shomeschooling the girls and that
they can take what my wife andI have kind of held valued and
then see them take that mantlewill be another small win but I
(14:44):
think a big win.
Speaker 2 (14:45):
Oh, that's huge and
so beautiful because it's so
simple.
He could have said anything inhis personal life, even in his
business life.
In your personal life you'rejust like, even in his business
life, but in his just that, inyour personal life you're just
like man.
It's just that we put in thework and we're getting to see
the fruits of that labor throughour children.
Yeah, I'm not going to cry, butthat is sorry To me.
It's the vision it is.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
It's a very clear
vision that to your point, but
obviously very gratifying foryou.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Wow, yeah Well, thank
you so much for being on.
