Like you seem like you're on the path to loving it.
I don't know if you're thereyet, I mean I'm getting there.
I'm getting there, gosh, it's.
It's like it's kind of it A lotof mine's more, you know, I
wouldn't say experience oranything like that.
It's more like an internal likeI know, I know what I can do,

and if I push myself to do it,then it's like it just.
It's just that satisfaction ofI accomplished something, but
then also it's like, well, isthat the best, really best I
could be?
And I was like like alwaysanswers, no, there's always.
It's always this work inprogress.
I'm always trying to improvesomewhere somehow.
And it's funny last night my sondrew and I were sitting there

(01:31):
looking at some weightliftingstuff and he saw this dude's
like jacked this day, that guy'sjacked and he looked over and
he goes, fills my arm and hegoes.
You're getting there.
He goes maybe a couple moretimes a week.
You look like him.

(01:52):
I was like thanks, buddy,appreciate that.
Well, hey, I mean that.
Uh, him saying that you know,talking to you just in that way,
I think is, yeah, bothmotivating and and good for him,
right, he's on the right path.
And I would say, you know, also,going along with being, you
know, being self-motivated islike having having this like
feeling from your family andit's really, you know, morgan,
my kids are so supportive peopleand they always want what's
best for me and what's best forus.
So, um, you know, morgan's sotough on me and I love it and

(02:16):
it's it's some people just shyaway from that and I've really
tried to embrace it and be like,um, this is great for me, she.
She's pointing out the thingsthat I need to work on, because
she could see it and sometimesyou kind of got to get out of
your way and she's really helpedme realize that.
And then, you know, it's likesure, I've been doing some like

(02:36):
small group stuff with guys andreally trying to, you know, talk
about feelings and things withbusiness and things you really
don't get a chance to share withother guys, like a Black-minded
.
And one of the things we did waswe wrote a eulogy For ourselves
, but I had, and they also hadsaid hey, have your wife, your
kids, write one for you.
So I shared that with you.
But that was like, you know,like what's important to you at

(03:00):
the?
In the grand scheme of things,it's like do I want to be known
as a business leader or a lot ofstuff?
And I really don't.
I want to be known as a greathusband and a great father.
That's all that matters.
So that motivates me to takecare of myself, eat better, show
up for them, right, yeah, itseems like you bridge the gap
between thinking that you comelast, come last in in that sense

(03:26):
, right, you know, I I thinkthat in our world with all the
distractions, all these ideas ofthings that we think success is
.
Well, we're getting pulled in,whether it's the direction of
career and you know, peoplechoose to have a family.
They obviously care about theirfamily, hopefully, and then

(03:47):
just the pleasures of life, butit seems like the, the, the
fitness, the personal healthgets kind of put on the back
burner because there's easyfixes later down the road.
I'll do that later, can I cantake medicine to fix that right,
versus the investment that youget, you know, by showing up
every day but, right, making theright choice on what to eat,

(04:10):
right, um, and how that fuelsall the other things, so that
you know if that's better thanall the other things.
Like 10x, right, and it sucksbecause you can't put numbers to
it, you can't, right, you can'tput like a oh I, I literally
10x how much love I had in myfamily until you have done it
already.
It's a feeling, yeah, it's notsomething that you can measure,

(04:32):
that's right.
Okay, do you feel, like overthe last few months, that that
is something that you know,you've seen in your kids?
Like, has that extended down tothem?
Oh, oh, definitely, I think.
I mean, I would say, where weare right now as a family, I'm
super proud of, like, it's likeso wholeheartedly.
I mean, it's like my heart's asbig as it's ever been and I

(04:54):
would say it's, you know, justchanging my health, just being a
healthier person in general.
Exercising, working on myselfhas helped just spur the
relationships to.
You know, we enjoy beingtogether and doing things and,
um, I'm a lot sharper thinkingwise, I'm not as harsh, um,

(05:17):
there's no, you know, I don'tknow.
It's like, I just want to buildthem up.
Yeah, it's like it like seeingmorgan go to the gym and do
really hard stuff.
I'm super proud of her.
That's another one.
That's like gosh, she'scrushing it and she gets
comments all the time frompeople men and women and it's

(05:37):
flattering.
I like to sit back and watchher smile and it's really it's
like because you're earning it.
I mean, that's what's's what'sreally cool.
She's doing it.
She's doing it also.
Yes, it's that much better.
Yeah, y'all been crushing itfully, like I don't know if you
could crush it anymore, okay.
So yeah, as you've gone throughthis, as it's been something

(06:02):
that has obviously had a hugeimpact on your life, impacted
your family.
I know you're going throughbusiness changes right now as
well.
You don't have to go into thedetails if you don't want to,
but have you seen that?

Speaker 1 (06:14):
it's freed you up mentally and you said it
impacted your clarity withmaking decisions?

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Give us some more context to how that's worked in
business for you.
Sure, so really I have made ahuge change at work.
I've been in the same officefor gosh 16 years and really I
decided to move out of my officeand I had a big executive suite

(06:39):
you know, you, david, I had itin there there, moved out into a
little tiny space that had openwindows and I'm staring at all
the other workers that we havein one of our divisions.
And then I also decided to giveup control of our main business
.
So I went into more of avisionary role with that side of
our company and I took one ofour smaller brands, backwoods,

(07:09):
and, and I'm running itexclusively, and so we have a
small team.
This is six people and then wehave production workers, but I
mainly deal with the six, thesix people in the, the front,
the front section, uh, sales,marketing, engineering and um,
life's gotten real simple for me, which I get back to building
small business again, which Ireally enjoy, yeah, and so, and
those guys especially, and evenour executive team, they're like

(07:32):
man, we've seen just a hugechange in you.
I was like, well, I've done acouple of things health, fitness
but that's helped me makebetter decisions in our company
and do what's best for us, andsometimes, like I have to get
out of the way because I haveall these ideas and it confuses.
But we have 105 people, so it'slike in our company it's I

(07:53):
always feel responsible for them, like I feel like they're part
of our family and so I want tomake the best decisions and
sometimes I confuse them by well, this is a great direction, but
this is also a great directionInstead of it, you know, laying,
laying it out there and sayingyou guys run with it instead of
me getting in the way.
So deciding to move and do thatwas been fantastic, but has it

(08:13):
been easier to do it?
To get more like narrow, yeah,like for you as a vision, it's
so.
It's so much easier, like I canjust say, hey, this is where
we're headed, this, oh, it's somuch easier, like I can just say
, hey, this is where we'reheaded, this is what we're
trying to accomplish, and thenyou let them do it, and then, on
the backwards side, I'm able toget back to the basics of what
really builds a business, whichis, you know, are we solving a

(08:34):
problem for somebody?
Are we do.
We have great, great customerservice.
Is it a great experience buyingfrom us?
Are we supplying a greatproduct?
We, you know it's just.
It's just a good atmosphere tobe in, right, like building that
small team feel and where it'snot so corporate.
I felt like our company gotreal corporate all of a sudden
and had too many layers, anddoing this really stripped it

(08:56):
down into back to little kind ofsub departments and they take
care of themselves and, um, it'sbeen really great.
But really it's helped me likeshake out of the old business,
like because it's a it's afamily company, so there's a lot
of things that get tied up andyou know, when my grandparents
started it and my dad was thereand just old feelings and uh

(09:21):
situations that came up and thatI've learned from tremendously,
you know, and I've always saidI want to learn from both
directions the stuff that waschallenging and the stuff that
went great right, and then takethe best of both worlds, but
really trying to like I'm stillholding on to all that stuff and
so when I moved out of theoffice, it really just like got
me free.

(09:41):
Yeah, let's just share this.
Just share this.
I was a new person.
I think it's interesting thatyou said that as far as the way
it's able to help you get clearin your vision and make
straightforward decisions, seethose systems and implement
those things directly.
It's like the same thing thatpeople struggle with in fitness

(10:02):
is that there's all these shinyobjects.
There's a thousand ways to loseweight, there's a thousand ways
to do things, to eat foodsright, and you know as much as
there is science behind some ofthose things.
The science changes, like youknow, what we did 30 years ago,
what we thought was healthy,it's not what is healthy today,

(10:24):
right and so and still.
But people still made changesback then.
So you know.
It goes back to understandingjust what the basic things work.
As far as showing up, you knowdoing some sort of resistance
training yep, eating whole foods, like those simple basic things
, and then do as showing up, youknow doing some sort of
resistance training, eatingwhole foods, like those simple
basic things, and then do overand over again and how it helps
you be so clear in how to moveforward.

(10:44):
Like it's.
It's the same principle.
It's the same principle offitness that is in business
Right, that is in family Right,cause if you show up every day
for them.
You're gonna create more loveand gratitude than you ever
could.
Works.
Great, right?
Yeah, it's mind-blowing.
Yeah, I will.
I will say, like the the fitnessside, uh, fitness and, and you

(11:05):
know, the food, the food worldthat we live in now is, it's
very commercialized, yeah, youknow, and, and we're all
everything's about making money.
It's not about what's actuallygood for you, right?
Who do you listen to?
Why you listen to them?
You can, for me, like go backto saying there's so many
different ways.
Right, get there, um, and Ithink ours has been just so
straightforward and simple.

(11:25):
Like, like, eat all foods, eatstuff that's actually good for
you, don't?
I mean not saying you can'tsplurge, you have something
every so often.
That's not the case.
You, you can, but it's likeyour, your consistent diet is
I'm gonna eat the same macrosevery day or, depending on what
we're doing.
Um, be consistent.
You taught me that more thananybody.
Morgan knew it.
She's been doing it for years.

(11:46):
Of course, I don't listen,morgan, easy for me, yeah, but
it's really just saying like, oh, yeah, I should listen to you
because I'm stupid, you know,but that that's helped so much.
And then you know the just goingback to showing up and working
hard.
I mean, you get, there's tonsof people that show up to the

(12:07):
gym.
They don't work hard, right?
You see it all the time, I'msure, but it's just like and
people ask us like, well, gosh,you guys are crushing it.
What's going on?
Like we're just doing basics,yeah, like we're just.
We're keeping it simple.
It's the difference betweenfeeling like you're doing work
and actually doing work, andthis is something that I've
struggled with in a differentarea of my life.
You know, fitness comes reallynaturally.

(12:30):
You know I, I'm a big kid onthe playground.
It always happened.
You know, like I, I just wantto play.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Yeah, I just want to hang out, I just want to run and
feel what it's like to be alive, and I think that's why I fit,
I'm gravitate towards fitness,yeah, um, and so it's really
easy it seems easy at least toto push myself physically, um,
when I'm sitting behind thecomputer and needing to do
administrative work.
That's like pulling hair,pulling nails out.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
And it you know it's not something that I
particularly enjoy, but I know Ihave to do which are a lot
harder to kind of wrangle thatfocus and and and the difference
of you know, this thing'sactually going to progress me
forward and this is kind offeels like I'm doing work, but
I'm really just kind of wastingtime because it seems more fun,

(13:21):
right, so it makes sense, right.
Absolutely, I don't know if youhave any things like that that
you, you fall into or that theyhave.
Well, I've had experiences inthe past.
I mean, I mean, really I'm, I'm, I feel like I'm a big kid too,
like I love sports and justenjoying time and whatever we're
playing, and uh, it's likebeing being the dad.
At home, too, the dads have funand that's just part of you

(13:42):
know, your kids want to play,and it's like trying to make
time to go out and play withthem.
But it's also like it'srewarding at the same time.
Um, and really I mean gosh.
Other than that, there's just, Imean, I love to play golf, I
love challenging.
It's, it's the hardest sport ofall time, but it's so
frustrating.
But at the same time, you hitthat one shot and it's like

(14:04):
that's why I come back right,because I keep doing it.
Uh, plus, you get to be outsidewith friends and do stuff like
that, but, um, I don't knowreally that.
I mean gosh, I love, I lovework so much too, and that's fun
for me, right?
It's fun just being creativeand like seeing things work, and
it could take 10 years forsomething to work if I like, oh,

(14:26):
it happened, it actually worked, but I don't know.
That's the difference you're,you're willing to wait 10 years,
you're willing to do all ofthose things, those steps for 10
years before you see the resultand right.
I think that just means thatyou're willing to make all that
sacrifice and that's why youhave such a big result at the
end.
Right versus.
You know most, most people wantit in a couple hours, a couple

(14:48):
days, a couple weeks, sure theinstant gratification right,
right, then that's the wholeslew.
Oh, it's problems and topics.
I think we all.
I think it takes a particularperson who's done a lot of deep
inner work to get that out oftheir life entirely.
So I think we all have it'ssomewhere.
Oh yeah, somewhere we want tostart Education.

(15:10):
Sure, it's just being aware ofhow that is for us, right, or
where that area is for us, Right.
