Sarah Lorenzi is the President and CEO of CAAEL, the Chicagoland Area Alternative Education League, a 501c3 nonprofit that has been transforming lives since 1976. After earning her Master’s in Education and teaching for 13 years in Oak Park, Sarah joined her father 12 years ago to run CAAEL and now proudly carries on his legacy.
CAAEL was founded to give at-risk and special education students, all of whom had been removed from mainstream schools due to severe emotional or behavioral challenges, access to the same athletic and activity opportunities as their peers. Each year, CAAEL reaches nearly 5,000 students across the Chicagoland area, offering more than 1,100 events and activities focused on teamwork, sportsmanship, goal setting, and personal responsibility instead of winning and losing.
Each CAAEL event takes place during school hours and is built directly into a school’s curriculum and incentive system. Students must meet weekly attendance, academic, and behavioral goals to participate, keeping them motivated, engaged, and excited to stay on track week after week.
Through this work, Sarah and her team are helping even the toughest-to-reach kids stay in school, graduate, and build productive, fulfilling lives. She’s also an active community member and proud mom of three.

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist
It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
