In the aftermath, it was coming home to her 2-year-old son, Morgan, who helped her heal her broken heart. Many years later, in 2008, while Morgan was studying in China, he and a group of friends decided to travel to Tibet and visit Mount Everest. Upon arriving, they immediately boarded a bus toward Base Camp. However, as they journeyed on, Morgan and several friends began to experience severe altitude sickness. Despite this, they pressed on and arrived at Base Camp that night. Morgan, however, continued to show worsening signs of illness. The following morning, when Morgan’s friends tried to wake him, he did not respond. They quickly loaded him onto a bus in an attempt to descend to a lower altitude, but it soon became clear that Morgan was slipping away. One of his friends called Elizabeth, informing her of Morgan’s grave condition. She asked them to hold the phone close to his ear. As she gently spoke to him, expressing her love, Elizabeth suddenly felt his presence, even from thousands of miles away. In that moment, she felt Morgan’s love and his embrace, and she knew that he had transitioned. A deep sense of peace and love filled her heart. In the days that followed, Elizabeth began attending grief support groups. When she shared her profound spiritual experience that was bringing her so much comfort and peace regarding Morgan’s passing, she was met with resistance and even asked not to speak of it. Undeterred, Elizabeth went on to create a new support group where spiritual experiences were not only welcomed but encouraged. This led to the founding of Helping Parents Heal, a worldwide organization that supports thousands of parents who have children transitioned. Through this foundation, these shining light parents find healing by connecting with each other and their children on the other side.
