Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hello, hello, hello and welcome back.
I'm so happy to be back behindthe podcast microphone again,
believe it or not, surprisingmyself even by saying that.
So welcome back, fellowlighting nerds and friends.
We are in the new era of mypodcasting life, as you well

(00:24):
know.
The name of the podcast haschanged from light files to
Lighting with Lisa, the podcast.
This is all a part of aprofessional shift in some of
the things that I'm working onvia just life, lessons learned,
things that will work better formy family, for me,

(00:45):
professionally, for thecommunity at large.
It's all part and parcel ofwhat's happening here and I'm
super excited to be back andreally, really kind of amped for
things that are percolating andgoing on.
So this episode is going to bejust a little bit of an

(01:07):
explanation of things that haverecently been announced and it's
going to also be a little bitof, well, a pitch for how I want
this podcast to be able tosupport itself, moving forward
and so that I can continuebringing this great content to
the industry, even if it's just, well, my own opinion of great

(01:29):
content, but after hearing fromseveral of y'all when the Light
Files podcast went away, I knowthere's value for many of you in
this content, even if it justgets you thinking or send your
mind on a tangent of somethinggoing on in your own
professional space.
So and I listened to plenty ofpodcasts for that same reason
some like 75% of the time.

(01:52):
I like the content.
25% of the time I'm justrolling my eyes.
If that's how and why youlisten to Lighting with Lisa the
podcast, be my guest.
I totally understand I'm notgoing to get it all right all
the time, but it is my missionto help get these conversations
going, still to always speakfrom a place of positivity and

(02:16):
how we work to succeed andimprove.
I don't want to get draggeddown in any negativeness or
complaints.
I'm sure they're going to sneakin from time to time.
I'm human, just like everybodyelse.
But the re-energized focus ofthis podcast and this platform

(02:37):
is to focus on the positive, focus on our strengths, focus on
areas where we can succeed andlearn from one another and grow
and support the entireresidential lighting and fan
community.
So if you're listening to thisepisode, you might have heard

(02:58):
because you're a member or beenforwarded, let's be honest an
announcement email that went outthis week announcing the
winding down of the LightingShowroom Association.
It's been a journey.
It's been a journey with someamazing people, first and

(03:20):
foremost, kirsten Reese of BlackWhale Home I could not have
done any of this remotelywithout her Zelle Duda, our
other current board member, andall the other board members and
volunteers that engaged in thisassociation over the past six
years.
We did so many remarkablethings.

(03:41):
I am so proud of the movementthis association started in our
industry and I think itcontinues and I think it is just
a real kind of humblingexperience to have been a part
of this association from startto finish and watched its growth

(04:05):
and watched the changes thathave happened in the industry
because of it.
But so officially, if youhaven't heard, on December 31st
of 2023, the Lighting ShowroomAssociation is going to close
its doors.
We have done many, many things, including 107 podcast episodes

(04:27):
of the Light Files.
Our biggest and ongoing legacywill be the interactive 3D model
and augmented reality program, which is going to expand in the
very near future.
We've saved our showroommembers like thousands upon
thousands of dollars by trackingholiday sales, promo codes, the

(04:52):
restocking fees.
We've saved with the LSAinitiative.
We've had all of our networkingand just been a resource to one
another.
It has truly been, as I said inthe email announcing this, that
the LSA has always wanted to bethe tide that lifts all ships.

(05:14):
We really are firmly committed, and have always been committed,
to the growth and success asthe industry as a whole.
We all need one another indifferent ways.
It was really reallysignificant to us to have that.
As I just mentioned, the ARprogram is actually going to

(05:35):
carry on, I expect in January2024, you will see some
expansion of it.
I don't want to step onanybody's toes by saying any
more than that, but you willhear about it soon enough.
I just think it's a reallyexciting development and legacy
that we've been able to leave.

(05:56):
Also, as we close out ouraccounting and the financials of
the LSA, whatever funds we haveleft over we are going to make
a donation to the ALA PAC tosupport the entire industry
moving forward.
We felt like that was the bestthing we could do to really

(06:18):
continue to give our entireindustry a boost, even on the
way out the door.
That's the major news.
If you have any questions aboutit, please feel free to reach
out to me.
It's been a journey it's beenjust a joy to be a part of.

(06:41):
I wouldn't change a minute ofit, but for all of us involved
on a day-to-day basis, it istime to move on to other things
in our lives and in our worlds.
I think it's just been justtruly I think I've said this
like five times already an honorto be a part of that

(07:02):
association and work for andwith our industry.
The way we are able to do ittruly will always be one of the
things I'm most proud ofprofessionally.
Again, I could not have donethis without Zelle and Kirsten
especially.
She has just been moreimpactful than most anybody

(07:24):
would know and I appreciate her.
So so much for it.
Anyway, so that's the LSArundown.
What are we doing here?
What is lighting with Lisa atthe podcast?
Well, it is a space where Iwant to be able to have

(07:45):
discussions, I want to dointerviews, I want to have a
community for all members of theresidential lighting showroom
industry and I want this to bethe audio space where I recap,
retell, share ideas, comments, suggestions, anything and

(08:07):
everything that might comeacross my desk, through my DMs,
through my email, whatever it is.
But it is, first and foremost,a community built on trust,
positive ideas and support.
I want it to be safe andrespectful.
I want it to be encouraging, Iwant it to be idea sharing.

(08:28):
I want it to be strengtheningof the entire industry.
This podcast and the associatedFacebook groups is not going to
be a place for complaining.
No arguing, no negative energy.
We are here to move thingsforward.
If there's a problem or concernyou're having, for sure, like,

(08:50):
let's talk about those things, but in no way, shape or form
will there be any like namecalling harming another business
of any kind.
It's just not what we're doinghere.
So if you want to complainabout this person, that brand,
whatever it is, that needs tohappen somewhere else.
But in this world we'repositive, we're forward thinking

(09:14):
, we're problem solving andwe're sharing ideas and that's
just what I want this to be andhopefully for a very long time
we can keep that engagement up.
So there is a private Facebookgroup.
It is Facebookcom, it'sLWL-LightingShowrooms, but the

(09:35):
direct URL is Facebookcom slashgroups slash lighting showrooms.
Please join us there.
That's where a lot of theeveryday conversations will be
going on and then this podcastwill exist, hopefully weekly.
It might be every other week tostart.
We're just going to see whatkind of momentum we can get

(09:56):
going.
I would love to be able to haveone episode a month be an
interview with another lightingindustry professional and
another shift in this podcast isgoing to be ads.
So the rest of this little howwe got here episode is my own

(10:18):
sort of pitch to manufacturersand if anybody out there thinks
this is a great idea and let meget this in front of my closest
manufacturer friends please feelfree to share this episode with
them.
But how I would love for thispodcast to work going forward is
for there to be an ad everyweek and the ad is maybe by a

(10:40):
manufacturer, maybe by a serviceprovider to the industry,
something, and I would love forthose ads to come with some sort
of promotion.
That's probably only good forthe duration of the life of this
podcast episode.
So for a week or two weeks orwhatever.
It is a promo code that wouldentitle the.

(11:02):
Whoever listens to the podcastall the way through gets the
podcast, gets the promo codefrom the podcast itself, not
from like the show notes orwhatever.
It wouldn't be there.
The whatever, the promo wouldcome through the podcast itself
and that would entitle whoeveruses that promo code or whatever
the, the rule agreed upon andset in places to either like an

(11:27):
inside discount for the term ofthat podcast or the ability like
, if there's overstock of somesort of giveaway item that a
showroom might want, or a salesagent could also maybe use the
same promo code to get giveawaysfor their, their portion of the
business.
I don't know.
I really would love, as witheverything I've always tried to

(11:50):
do, I would love for us to thinkoutside the box of our industry
.
There's a lot of boxes andlighting, and so my favorite
joke about the boxes you know, walk out of the warehouse with a
big box and, with the exceptionof some ceiling fans, you know
the customers will be like oh mygosh, it's so big.
I said no, no, no, it's a big,it's bulky, but it's light.

(12:11):
And this, this, in some way, shape or form, is a metaphor for
our entire industry.
We are substantial, we'reimportant, but we get kind of
constrained by these boxes thatwe're in.
And it has always been mymission and my personal belief

(12:34):
that part of why our industryhas hit so many speed bumps and
hasn't fully been able to like, coalesce and grow together is
because we keep ourselves inthese boxes or, as I've said
before, and our like individualsilos, then there's not a lot of
commingling, there's not a lotof sharing of ideas and

(12:54):
communication between the boxes.
So I'm really really still onthis path of encouraging those,
that open communication, thatdialogue, that sharing of ideas,
all of that.
So the sponsored portion of thispodcast, I want it to be a
value to the sponsor by gettingtheir name out and whatever

(13:16):
promotion or program or fixtureor fan or what platform whatever
they're trying to promote.
I want that for sure to getairtime and get in front of this
very targeted niche audiencethat this podcast has a good
amount of listeners in.
So that would be like thebenefit to them.

(13:37):
I would be incentivized tocontinue to do this podcast by
getting that sponsorship.
And then I want the listenersof this podcast to also get some
sort of benefit by committingto listening, by listening
through the end, getting theirpromo code for whatever discount
, free product savings on, youknow, their subscription for the

(14:03):
month, like just whatever thecase may be.
I really want, as witheverything I'm going to try to
create under this lighting withLisa brand, I want it to be
something that really is apositive for everyone, not just
a positive for me personally, inlike a check or just a positive

(14:24):
for the whoever's, you know, doing the ad to get their name
out, but also the personreceiving the ad content.
I want it to be worth theirwhile for them to listen to it,
as opposed to just, you know, like skipping forward 30 seconds
till I'm done talking.
So I listened to plenty ofpodcasts.
I skip plenty of ads and thatis not the kind of ad I want to
have in this space.

(14:45):
So that's sort of the bigpicture of where we've come from
, where I hope to go.
You know, there's a world inwhich I put this episode out and
everyone says you know what, lisa, we're just done with you
not going to happen and thiswhole platform sort of goes away
.
And that would be sad.
I wouldn't love it.
But I would also recognize thatmaybe my time has gone, come

(15:08):
and gone, but I'm hopeful thatwe can find a way to continue to
build on this energy in ourindustry.
If there's one thing that LSAhas really shown me time and
time and time again, it's thatthere is an absolute need for
communication, networking, sharing of ideas on a regular

(15:31):
basis in our lighting industry, not just when we go to
Lightavation, not just when wego to the ALA conference, but on
an ongoing, regular basis.
It's one of the biggest thingswe have missing.
So that's the whole idea behindthis new private Facebook group,
between this revamped podcast, between whatever else is going

(15:53):
to come from the social media orother networking programs we're
able to put together.
That is the entire baseline ofthis thing is to keep us all
engaged as an industry on a very, very regular basis and the
people from whatever companiesthat are choosing to engage in

(16:13):
this content that they can takeit back to their home office, to
their co-managers, to theowners, whoever it is, and share
these ideas, share thesethoughts, put your own twist on
it, so that we can all growbetter, stronger, more
successful together, and maybein our own unique ways that we
haven't even heard of yet, andwe're just going to be stunned

(16:36):
by this great concept somebodycame up with and we're all going
to want to copy it or whatever.
I just want us to get to thisplace where we're much more open
, sharing of ideas.
Everyone still gets to do theirown thing.
Of course, we're not givingaway anybody state secrets, but
if there's a great case study ofsomebody who's just really
thriving, let's all take a lookat it, talk about it.

(16:59):
I want this to be such apositive and encouraging space,
sharing ideas, even justbusiness 101 basics.
I am doing a databasere-implementation, I'm getting a
new database program at mystore and I'm sometimes annoyed
at my own self at the amount ofGoogling I have to do of like

(17:21):
business 101, because I didn'tget a degree in business in
college or accounting or any ofthat.
But we're making our way, we'redoing just fine.
But it's just even just stufflike that that is so under your
radar screen but actually can bereally important into the
structure of your business.
So all kinds of things arepercolating in the mind.

(17:41):
So that's where we are, that'swhere we're going.
If you think this is a greatidea, let me know.
If you think it's a great ideaand know somebody you would love
to have featured on the podcastas a sponsor or an interview,
send this on to them, send it onto me.
I'll definitely follow up onevery lead that comes my way.
The new Facebook communityagain, it's a private Facebook

(18:04):
group, it'sLWL-LightingShowrooms.
That's what to search for, orthe URL direct facebookcom slash
groups, slash lightingshowrooms.
Come join us there and we'llget the conversations going and
keep them going, and I lookforward to it very, very much.
All right, everyone.
