What happens when a podcaster and a novelist share their mutual passion for using stories to draw people to Christ? In this powerful conversation, Jacquiline Cox (ListenLinda) welcomes Pat Simmons, Christian romance author of 18 years, to explore spiritual storytelling as ministry.

Simmons opens her heart about the Intercessors series and her latest release "Day of Salvation," revealing how these books visualize spiritual battles happening around us daily. "Show my people the spiritual battles I fight for them every day," God instructed her—taking her writing far beyond her usual romance genre comfort zone. The result? Fiction that readers describe as "riveting," "eye-opening," and "a challenge to all believers."

With remarkable candor, Pat shares how the character Catherine Kincaid represents prayer warriors everywhere—those dedicated intercessors in churches who fight unseen battles. Drawing from Ephesians 6:12, she crafts stories that make spiritual warfare tangible while encouraging readers to become more spiritually vigilant.

The conversation takes a particularly moving turn when both women discuss protecting children through prayer. Pat shares a touching story about praying for six young boys she met randomly at a restaurant, adding them permanently to her prayer list because "our boys are in trouble." Her testimony illustrates how fiction can illuminate biblical truths and inspire readers to become more dedicated prayer warriors in their own lives.

This episode isn't just about books—it's about using our voices to share God's goodness. As Jacqueline powerfully states, quoting Romans 10:14-15, "How can people believe in what they have not heard, and how can they hear without someone preaching?" Whether through novels, podcasts, or personal testimonies, this conversation challenges us all to share our stories of faith.

Ready to experience spiritual fiction that strengthens your walk with Christ? Discover Pat Simmons' Intercessors series and join the movement of believers using their voices to bring others closer to God.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
I can get mama.
I can, I can, it's human.
It's human in St Louis.
So y'all, this is the summer, bad hair day we're not doing
that.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
You look good today, girl.
I want to be like you when Igrow up.
Oh my.
So we are so glad you are herenow.
Congratulations on releasingday of salvation, thank you
readers have been calling it aneye-opening work about realities

(03:50):
of spiritual warfare and achallenge to all believers who
answered the call.
Can you give the audience andlisteners a little background
about who you are and what youdo?

Speaker 3 (04:04):
Well, you've already given me this great introduction
, but I'm Pat Simmons, I'm fromSt Louis and I'm going on my
18th year as a author and I'mthankful Many people know as
authors the journey totraditional publishing is not

(04:24):
easy at all and right whenyou're ready to give up, someone
finds favor in what you'redoing and you get a deal.
So fast forward, 18 years later, this whole series really came
about, with me coming out of myprayer closet the Lord, and I'm

(04:45):
a Christian romance.
Give me some good romance mybooks.
When I first started I toldpeople I write clean books that
you can read on Saturday and goto church on Sunday guilt-free.
But the Lord are chasing me tolet me know, tell them more why

(05:13):
you write.
And so when you ask me now, versus years ago, I write to
draw people to Christ period.
If you are already walking withChrist, I'm writing to
encourage you to stay in yourwalk with Christ.
Now there's readers that cannotsay that and there may be some
Christian authors that may notsay that.

(05:33):
But that's what God had me tosay that I love me some you know
some good love stories.
I got my you know my Jamesonmen the next generation.
But when God saves people.
In my books they say, you know, going in and out the church.
That may happen in your world, but in my world, what did the

(05:55):
Bible say?
That he?
I wanted to say it was 300, butit may have been 3000 prophets
that did not bow down.
God has got authors out herethat's going to help draw people
in, and so I am honored to beone of those to walk in this
writing ministry.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yes, and I love your work.
I absolutely adore it.
I just started writing about afew years ago and that's been my
way as well.
I want to reach people wherethey are.
You know, everybody is on adifferent level in their journey
and their walk, in their faith.
Right, I believe that Ishouldn't have to change who I

(06:37):
am or act like I am further inmy walk than what I am in order
to reach people.
I want to reach people who arewhere I am or back where I used
to be, and bring them closer, and that is the key and the only
way that I feel that I can dothat is being authentically who
I am, because if I try to be youor I try to be, you know, dr

(06:58):
Velma, if I try to be, you knowanybody that is further along in
their walk than what I am.
I'm only 36.
I can't claim to have theknowledge of somebody who's
double my age, but I know what Iknow now and in knowing what I
know now, I have helped a lot ofpeople through the grace of God

(07:19):
.
Working through me as a vesselhave helped so many people along
the way.
Over 100 people now tell theirstories and get their stories
out just through my work, through my anthologies, and it's
all been inspired from peoplelike you, vanessa Miller Pierce,
dr Thelma Laquita Parks,natasha Frazier.
All of you guys are just so andRhonda Lawson, all of you guys,

(07:40):
dr Audrey Ann especially she'samazing, but so many people who
I've looked up to in yourwritings and then to actually
get the chance to meet you guysand fellowship with you guys and
just it's just been an amazingexperience.
So I'm just super honored.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
And many of those names you call.
I count them as my friends.
You have Angela Anderson comingon.
That's my girl.
I mean you know, being aChristian author, we're a small
knit community and it's not thecompetition, it's more like I'm
lifting you up.
You know you need to get thatmanuscript done.

(08:20):
I'm praying for you.
You need that book deal.
I'm looking out for you.
Hey, I heard.
I mean we're a small knitcommunity and we should be like
a group of people, unlike otherpeople.
We should be.
We're bringing people up.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
And that's what I found in this group and, um,
it's just been amazing to me howpeople have literally opened
their hearts in and and justsaid come here, sugar, let me
help you out, let me help youout.
And then you guys take what youknow and you feed it to me.
And then I take what I knowwith brand and marketing and
different things and I feed itto you guys.

(08:57):
And that is where the blessingcomes in at, because we have to
be able, like you say, umcollaboration over competition.
Every day I hear that so muchin the community, but it's very,
very hard to find authenticityin that.
Like, a lot of people say itbut a lot of people don't

(09:17):
actually do it.
So to find that in this groupof of, of multi-generational
women, it's been phenomenal forme, and even just this past
campaign that I did with the 25awesome artists, wow, wow, wow
these ladies.
You guys, if you do not havethe latest edition of the listen

(09:38):
linda magazine, please go getit.
These ladies are phenomenal,phenomenal.
Now, all right, pat, pat, we gotto know.
Now I'm going to get into thebook.
Now we're talking, I'm gettingto the book.
I know we didn't gave everybody, pray everybody y'all and got
y'all praise.
Now it's time for me to getinto Catherine Kincaid.

(09:58):
So you know we got to talkabout Cat.
So people want to know.
Ok, what they want to know.
Catherine Kincaid is a churchmother with a heavily tasked, a
supernatural list of souls thatmust be reached before time runs
out, because once every soul isaccounted for, jesus returns.

(10:21):
Right, I saw a reader say,because I've been doing a little
research, this book is amazing,a challenge to all believers.
The tension is real.
What birthed that idea?
As far as like CatherineKincaid, am I saying it right?
Catherine Kincaid, mm-hmm, okay, so what birthed her character

(10:43):
Like?
Was it a real life person thatyou knew, or was it just a
combination of people?

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Well, you know, being an author yourself, we create
characters that take a littlebit of that person and this
person and that person.
And so this was the first bookcoming out, the Prayer Closet
that God had me to write.
And there was a mother, helenaWright, who I modeled after the

(11:08):
woman who was a weekend Bible.
No, she was a neighborhoodBible instructor, and so when
she passed in this book thenMother Kincaid picked up the
torch, but we all have thatchurch mother.
I mean, we have a group at mychurch called the Delta Force.

(11:28):
They started at my church atBethesda and St Louis and they
have people that call in NewJersey, just far Texas.
They get up every morning at530.
I get up every morning and pray, but I can't get up at 530.
Let the Lord wake me up at 530.
I'm rolling over at 5.30.
I get up every morning and pray, but I can't get up at 5.30.
Let the Lord wake me up at 5.30.

(11:49):
I'm rolling over 5.30.
But the Delta Force, they'reintercessors.
My pastor is one who believes.
Okay, we got prayer Saturdaymorning.
We got prayer Wednesday nightbefore Bible class.
Every fifth Sunday in thecalendar year we have corporate
prayer where we have no churchservice.
Everyone comes out for one hourand we pray, and you would

(12:12):
think that there's no choir orfire preaching, but the church
is packed because peoplerecognize the need of prayer,
the need of prayer.
So Mother Kincaid justrepresents the prayer warriors
at our churches.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Wow.
Now another reviewer said thisbook is riveting, a must read.
Keep your interest whileencouraging you to follow Christ
.
Was it intentional to feel likespiritual warfare, and how do
you balance suspense withministry?

Speaker 3 (12:52):
Well, you know one thing I can say that this series
took me out of my comfort level.
I'm a Christian romance andwhen I came out the prayer
closet, god gave me this titleno characters, no plots, this
title and I'm like okay.

(13:13):
And so I went and got all theend time scriptures.
And I'm like okay, now what?
Because, as an author yourself,we we use an outline, we kind
of know the beginning, middleand end.
But with this, I God told me,show people the spiritual
battles.
We see gunfire and fires, wesee those with the natural eye.

(13:35):
But god said show my people thespiritual battles.
I fight for them every day sothat they can have another day.
So, as you can see, I just hadthe whole concept all wrong.
So these, these books, actually, I'm actually describing visual
spiritual battles, visual sopeople can see.

(13:58):
There's no guarantee when weleave our house we're coming
back, that does happen, but wedon't know how many battles are
being fought while we're drivingdown the street and you know,
seconds later there was anaccident that could have
involved us, you know, or astorm being, or just so many
different things.
So this was out of my comfortzone.

(14:19):
But but one encouragement I hadthat every morning, before I
left my prayer closet, god gaveme the scene to write.
I didn't have a heads up Rightand so now, with the book that
I'm working on, god was it's notthe intercessors, but God was
directing me.
Okay, this is what you handledtoday, which is so different for

(14:42):
me, but I appreciate God doingthat and I do know that everyone
that picks up any of thesebooks, any of these books in the
intercessor series, any of them, god has a message tailored for
that reader, and I know itbecause some of my readers are

(15:03):
like no romance.
But it wasn't about romance.
But then this book, it doeshave romance because it
piggybacked and I listened to myreaders.
But she had a job to do.
She came to do it and she didit.
I mean, this message is for now.

(15:25):
The book started a couple ofyears ago, but who knew that
what we're seeing now is theBible being fulfilled?
Absolutely Didn't see thatcoming when I started.
But I do know that God iscoming and, whether we're ready
or not, he's coming.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Yes, he's definitely coming.
And to piggyback on what yousaid about you're not really
understanding why or what, butyou just know God gave it to you
.
That's kind of how I was withmy latest book with.
If I were to write a book inthe Bible, god gave me that a
while back, right, and we allknow like nobody in the Bible

(16:10):
was perfect.
Everybody had a story.
And so what I did was I tookall my stories and I turned them
into scripture, like inscripture form, and so when I
did it I was talking to Dr Velmabecause I finished it.
I started it.
It was like a six month journeyand I finished it and I was so
scared to put it out and I'musually not like that, like with

(16:31):
anything I do, I'm real bold init.
This time I was like I don'tknow what.
You know what the saints don'tthink, because who am I to write
a book in the bible.
And she was like well, everybody in in the bible was
troubled and god gave them aword and they wrote it.
So what's the differencebetween you and them?
Except they were back then andyou are now.

(16:53):
So if god gave it to you, hetold you to put it out, put it
out and it was phenomenallyreceived.
So I'm super happy about thatbecause I was very, very afraid
of you know what even peoplelike in my circle like what they
would think, like who shethinks she is writing a book in
the you know like, but I I feltlike that was my testimony.
Just like everybody in thebible, they had a testimony

(17:14):
where god.
But I felt like that was mytestimony.
Just like everybody in theBible, they had a testimony
where God spoke to them and theyand they ended up going this
way or that way, but whateverpath they went, they wrote about
and God spoke to them on theirjourneys and I felt like why
can't I do it?
You know.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
But see, that's not unusual.
Yeah, we all feel like that, even me.
You know I may not be in NewYork Times bestselling author, I
may not have that accolade, butmy pastor, who's gone now,
bishop Johnson, was a powerfulgiant in the apostolic

(17:53):
Pentecostal movement.
A lot of people knew who he was.
He wasn't as elevated as TBJakes, where everybody knew who
he was, but what Bishop had tosay was powerful.
And so I equate that to me andto you, that everybody may not
know who we are, but what wehave to say is powerful, it

(18:15):
matters, and so it's not.
It's not.
I mean, how many peoplequestion God?
Who am I?
I'm just the child.
David, king David's, like, I'mjust a shepherd.
Who am I, solomon, lord, I'mjust a child.
Show me how to rule your people.

(18:36):
So, coming to God with thathumility, god can use you, he
can use you.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Then he can heal you Absolutely.
And you know what that wholepremise is.
It reminds me of Ephesians 6and 12.
For we wrestle not againstflesh and blood, but spiritual
weakness and high places.
Now that verse.
But you know, spiritualweakness and high places, now,
um, that verse.

(19:07):
Yes, you got it up there, see, look.
Oh now I want to ask you aquestion now, cause, see, okay,
was you looking at that when youwrote about Catherine?
Look, because Catherine, whenshe was battling, like her
mindset, like how did that, didthat verse influence Catherine's
battle mindset, like as far as,like how she moved in the book?

(19:29):
Because to me, that's what, when I was reading Catherine,
that's what came to me.
You know, we wrestle notagainst flesh and blood.
That's all I kept seeing when Iwas reading about Catherine.
I was like Catherine is a badmammy jammy.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
Well, it's the church .
It was the whole church.
Catherine was a product of thechurch and this church was used
in spiritual warfare.
All churches aren't spirituallywarfare minded.
You know, some churches aresocial clubs.

(20:05):
I went to church on Sunday.
What was the message?
Girl, we had a good timeshouting in the mute, but what
was the message?
When we go to church, thereshould be a message that when we
leave we're still tasting LikeI'm still thinking about a
message from a young man onSunday.
I don't know how old Elder Tyleris, but maybe he's about your

(20:26):
age, maybe about 35.
But he said he would always.
You know, when he first gotsaved, he was always concerned
about doing something that wouldmake him miss the rapture.
And he was saying saints, letme comfort you, you can't be
scared of something you'relooking for.
And I'm still chewing on that.
I'm like, okay, we can't bescared of the rapture if we

(20:47):
looking for it.
So we are supposed to walk awayfrom service stronger than we
were the week before.
So Mother Kincaid is a productof that church and the and the
church had their assignment andtheir assignment was to fight
for soul.
There's Angela Anderson, my funFriday crew.

(21:14):
I love her.
But I mean, but that's my girl,that, that's, that's my girl.
But you know, the church hadthe assignment we are supposed
to.
When you finish reading thisbook, you should be more
spiritually minded.
You should be looking for soulsto be saved.
This book scared me, for soulsto be saved.

(21:36):
This book scared me.
It scared me because when I wasin my prayer closet, god said
I'm coming for the children andI'm like, okay, and I'm praying.
He said I'm coming for thechildren.
I'm like, okay, god, who isthere a specific child I'm
supposed to pray for?
Then he thundered I'm comingfor the children.
I began that book with that andbecause of this book.

(21:57):
Now when I see young children,I pray for them because God's
coming for the children.
And so, yeah, I mean when wefinish these books we should be
a better saint than we were whenwe finished, because it's not
Pat, it's God.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
Absolutely, and your words are super powerful.
Absolutely, and your words aresuper powerful.
Now I know I got a couple ofthem on my kindle, but I'm gonna
get all them paperbacks.
I need all of them in a box.
So, wwwpasssimmonsnet, honey, because I need all of mine.
I want my sign, I want a coupleof book bookmarks, whatever it

(22:34):
is that you throw in your boxes, because you know she got these
cute little boxes.
I thought I had me a cutelittle box, cute little box.
I was like, oh, I got to get mesome.
So scroll on her page.
She got some stuff and I willbe bringing up.
Matter of fact, let me bring upthis banner right now.
Y'all can check that out whileyou're listening.
But getting back to um, sincethis is book four in the series,

(22:59):
correct, if someone has notread the earlier intercessor
books, they still.
Can they still start there?
Or is the background?
Do they need like morebackground?
Should they get like start fromone and then go?
I mean, mean they?

Speaker 3 (23:15):
some people know, you know, some serious readers.
I don't care if the book, ifthe first book was 10 years ago.
They're going back 10 years andbuy that book on eBay.
You know?
But see what I mean.
But no, you can't, because allof them are based on spiritual
warfare.
Yes, All based on spiritualwarfare.

(23:36):
Yes, they're all based onspiritual warfare.
And her assignment was thesepeople.
But think about when God givesus people to pray for.
I have gotten up early in themorning to pray for people in
situations that I know nothingabout, situations that I know

(23:59):
nothing about, and God may giveme a burden of sadness for this
person, to bring these peopleout of addictions or domestic
violence or whatever they'reinto.
So when we finish reading thesebooks, even though my name is
on it but God guided me to writethose books, me to write those

(24:21):
books I'm more aware of there'sa teenager I'll never forget.
I was sitting in Wendy's with myhusband, you know, just going
to get a burger, and it was thisgrandmother and she had all her
grandkids, all six little boys, and they were just so cute,
like little, like little manchild.
They were just very manable, just so cute.
And I asked her.
I said do you mind?
No one else was in the inWednesday.

(24:41):
I said do you mind, when youfinish, when you leave, If I
pray, if I pray for them?
She said no, and when theyfinished she said ma'am, I'm
ready.
And I just held hands and Iprayed for them.
Those six little boys are stillon my prayer list Because, God,
I don't know what they willface growing up.
But, Lord, keep them, Let themwalk with you.

(25:03):
And so the teenagers and thosesix little boys.
I'll just never forgive them.
You can tell when they grow upthey're going to be some fine
brothers.
They were just so cute.
But our boys are in trouble.
Yes, they are.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
It's there.
Yep, I'm a 9-year-old and a14-year-old In the word.
Yes, all of their books, theirbestsellers, and they are all
parables of the Bible.
Those boys are phenomenal andthey are wrapped up honey in
prayer and the word.
So add them to your list, honey, amen, yes, amen, because those

(25:44):
are some men of God in traininghoney.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Right.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Yes, yes, yes, I definitely understand.
Our boys are definitely introuble.
I've been battling with schoolsystems and every time you look
up you know I definitelyunderstand.
Our boys are definitely introuble.
I've been battling with schoolsystems and every time you look
up I'm pulling them out andpeople say why you keep changing
them kids' school?
Because I have dominion overthem.
I have dominion over thembecause God gave it to me and
I'm not going to let no systemsnatch mine up and take them

(26:13):
through the pipeline.
You get what I'm saying.
The devil can't have mine.
If I got a homeschool, that'swhat I do.
So we have to make sure that wekeep our kids close and keep
them prayed up and keep them inthe word.
Every day, before we leave, wepray, we pray in the car.
They know the scriptures whenthey get in there.
Their heart, they know to praybefore we eat, pray before we go

(26:35):
to bed.
Just keep yourself dipped inthe word, because that's the
only thing that's going to saveyou from whatever it is.
That's uninvited.
Ms Pat, you there?
I think her internet paused.

(26:56):
Okay, so, ms Pat, internetpaused, but I'm pretty sure she
will be back.
But right now, while we'rewaiting, we're going to have a
word from our sponsor.

We've faced illness, loss, betrayal and doubt, but through
it all, we never lost faith.
We prayed.
When the world said it washopeless, we stood tall.
When others said we should fall, we found strength in our
diversity and unity in ourshared belief.

(28:42):
Through every raindrop, we grewstronger.
With every prayer we rosehigher.
Our stories are different, butour strength is the same.
We are the women of Through theRain.
Join us on this journey offaith and resilience.

Submit your interest by May 7th, because when rain falls, our

(29:04):
spirits rise.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
And unfortunately, pat kind of had to go.
Her internet is down, but wewill continue this conversation
on a later day.
However, I do want to let youguys know that please pick up A
Day of Salvation.
Go to her website, which is onthe screen here wwwpatsimmonsnet

(29:35):
.
Pat, it is okay, it was apleasure, but you know the devil
try to come in and out, especially when you speaking
about, you know um just stayingtrue to the word and keeping our
boys safe and keeping themprayed up.
The devil gonna always try tocome in, but he will not win.
It will not prosper.

(29:55):
This conversation will continue, so be ready for part two of
this conversation with PatSimmons.
Okay, we're going to get moreinto that.
I do want to let you guys knowthat Pat is a literary giant to
me and she is absolutely amazing.

(30:17):
You can find Pat Simmons onTikTok, at author Pat Simmons.
You can find her on Facebook, pat Simmons.
You can find her on Instagram.
Wherever social media isconcerned, pat Simmons is there
again.
You can check her out in theintercessor series um at

(30:40):
wwwpatsimmonsnet.
That that website right thereand um continue to stay prayed
up.
Grab a day of salvation.
Grab all of the intercessionbooks, because they are
absolutely phenomenal.
And before we go, yeah, makesure you grab them all.

(31:02):
Grab them in paperback, ebook,audiobook.
Catherine's journey, especiallyin the day of salvation, will
challenge you, stir you and itwill definitely activate your
intercession.
Okay, so, um and here's a versethat I want to say as well um,
for you guys to meditate on asyou read um, a day of salvation,

(31:24):
and that's Romans 10, 14 and 15.
How can they believe in the onethey have not heard and how can
they hear without someone'spreaching?
Okay, catherine's race is apowerful reflection of that
great commission call, as is allof us, right?
So I do have an anthologythat's coming out, called

(31:49):
Through the Rain.
It's coming out very soon.
You guys know I'm like Beyonce,I never drop my day, just be
looking out for it.
But I'm also doing an authorcall for a devotional, the
Through the Rain devotional, andthat is very powerful in Romans
10, 14, and 15.
How can people believe in whatthey have not heard and how can

(32:11):
they hear without someonepreaching?
How can people be saved if wedon't tell people the goodness
of God or that God lives?
People don't know that Godexists unless they see the
miracle that is him because theycan't see him, but they can see
what he does through us.

(32:32):
And if we're not telling thestory, if we're not shouting
into the rooftops, if we're notwriting about it, if we're not
talking about it, if we're notspeaking on it, how can they
know that God exists?
If the people who havewitnessed God, such as us
ourselves, because we can getourselves through the rain God

(32:53):
had to bring us through thosestorms.
We can get ourselves out thewaiting room.
God had to bring us throughthose storms.
We can get ourselves out thewaiting room.
God had to bring us throughthat waiting season.
So we must be the vessel thattells the story of how good God
is, just like all those peopledid in the Bible.
We must do the same.
I have the Through the Rainanthology and I also have the.
If I Were to Write a Book inthe Bible anthology those two

(33:16):
anthologies I'm taking peopleright now.
So you don't have to be aseasoned author, you don't have
to be an award-winning author tobe in my anthologies.
All you have to do is have atestimony how good God is, and I
will walk you through everysingle step, every step, and I
will also market you more thanyou have ever been marketed,

(33:38):
ever, ever.
Because I want to make surethat not only that you're
selling books and you're gettingyour ROI back, but I really
want to make sure that peoplewho may not have heard your
story hears your story and theyare saved by your story.
Okay, by the grace of God, toGod be all the glory for my show

(35:27):
until next time.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
Her hands were soft but they were strong.
Her voice, gentle but full ofpower.
She didn't wear a cape, shewore a sweater that smelled like
Sunday morning pancakes andprayer.
She taught us more than justhow to tie our shoes.
She taught us how to stand tallwhen life tries to knock us

(35:57):
down.
And now it's our turn to tellthe world, featuring real
stories from real women fromevery background and every
corner of the world, becauselove like this has no borders.
