Sara and Joe decided for Valentine’s Day they wanted to hike the Grand Canyon rim to rim. Joe had never been there, and it’s one of Sara’s favorite places. The hike was more difficult and took longer than they anticipated. Not only was it harder, Joe wanted to take in the scenery and they just went at a slower pace-but enjoyed almost all of it. (listen to the podcast for the tale of one less sleeping pad than needed) It was cold. And the north rim had a lot of snow, so conditions were also at points, challenging. The real headline is through it all, they both loved being there and being there together. They enjoyed their Spaghetti dinner looking out at the most beautiful views, laughed a lot, and overall made it a great adventure. The podcast talks a lot about mid-life and how to, in fact, Grow Younger. Both Joe and Sara feel that they are doing that. They both appreciate and have gratitude for life right now. They are in good places after each of their individual challenges and do not want to slow down. They want to keep making time for the things they enjoy. People, as they get older, put limits on themselves. For Sara and Joe, they want to expand experiences and keep mind, body and spirit aligned. They definitely both feel they are growing younger. Their tips for growing younger: 1.Always stay fit. Create space for physical activity. It doesn’t have to be into the Grand Canyon. Any type of moving you prefer: a walk, a small hike, a bike ride, etc. 2.Keep your mind sharp and always be curious 3.Prioritize the right relationships and purpose. Do what you love. Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
