Let’s shed some light on humility. It’s one of those Christian attributes that we like to put right next to patience or long-suffering. We know it’s good for us, just like it’s good for us to have veggies with dinner. If I have to, I will. We love it when we interact with a truly humble person, but we’re not sure we can do it ourselves.
In this podcast, we dispel some of the misunderstandings about humility and pin-point how humility may just be the key to overcoming division and polarization in our society. The great news is that Jesus was a perfect picture of humility. We wouldn’t call Jesus timid, or mousy, or a doormat that’s being taken advantage of. Jesus is the one that had every opportunity to express pride-He created everything, and yet he chose humility that led all the way to His death. And the humility that Jesus showed and lived transformed our world. Humility may actually be good… like ice cream, not veggies.
In this podcast our host, Elliot Sands interviews Dr. Dennis R Edwards, author of Humility Illuminated. Dr. Edwards illuminates humility as a, if not the, distinctive identity marker of followers of Jesus. Tracing the theme throughout Scripture, he demonstrates how true humility is grounded in submission to God and becomes manifest in all areas of life. Edwards defuses common misconceptions about humility and explores its role in Christian community, conflict, leadership, suffering, worship, and stewardship.
