Liv Free and Ham 24-hour podorecap.
Yeah, we're all dried out,we're back to normal and we're
ready to kind of just get moreliquored up.
I guess it's not real overagain.
So, yeah, guys, welcome forhanging out, welcome and thanks
(00:59):
for hanging out.
As always, hopefully everybodyis enjoying that and out as
always.
Um, you know, hopefullyeverybody uh is uh enjoying uh
that.
And if you're uh coming in lateand you want to do a quick
recap, I uh so eloquently uh,you know, posted this up on our
youtube uh channel there so youcan go check that out, uh watch
on the replay there.
So if you uh definitely want toadd that to your uh you know
(01:24):
watch list, that'd be awesome.
But otherwise we got a ton ofstuff to talk about tonight.
I mean, we've got things likeyou know.
Let me see TI donation.
We've got the what I'm deemingN3FJP gate, or you know, or you
know, we're going to get into awhole bunch of some great
(01:46):
stories.
I'm sure all these guys havecome prepared to talk and share
some of their great memories andwe're going to get into some of
the good, the bad, the ugly, and I've got some really good
news to share with our donationsand some of the goals that I
think Paul, I and Todd had setout to achieve for the weekend
(02:07):
and I think we did it and did itpretty successfully.
So you know, with that, how iseverybody doing?
I guess you know we'll throw itout to you guys.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Everyone at once.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
No particular order.
Everybody just talk over eachother or don't talk at all.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
It's a full highway.
We're all cramming into twolanes here.
So, alright, go ahead.
Grouch, you'll start it off.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
Alright.
Well, first of all, I gotta sayA huge thank you to everybody
that took part In the event, whether you were there in person
or whether you were thereonline, it was.
It was a ton of fun.
Even though I missed out on alot of the face to face
interactions because I wasrunning giveaways and things, it
was still really cool tointeract with everybody in the
(03:01):
chat.
I think I think the Live Freeand Ham podcast got a whole
bunch of new fans, which isfantastic.
Yeah, you know so, yeah, so Iguess that's where I want to
start.
It's just by saying thank youto everybody.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
And we have to thank
you, grouch, because, even
though we didn't see much of you, like, you know, there was a
whole chunk of this, you know, whole live stream and all the
stuff that went on that we werelike is it still running?
Are we still, you know, is itstill going?
Like, I don't think any of usreally like, yeah, well, that
was.
The other question is likewhere's Paul?
You know we're gonna have to,you know, make another t-shirt
for you know, specifically Paul, busy doing the live stream, so
(03:43):
cool, well, yeah, good place tostart, and so throw it over to
you.
Tortoise, how are you doing,buddy?
What's?
Speaker 7 (03:50):
been going on.
Well, you know, I pulledeverything out to dry everything
off.
On Sunday morning, I pulled allthe canvas out because it was
sopping wet and it dried, andthusly it rained again.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Not too, so it sat
outside for another two days and
label on the inside says uh,like the shampoo bottle, rinse,
lather, repeat so yeah, yeah, Iswept all the dirt off.
Speaker 7 (04:22):
Yeah, lake
Pontchartrain yeah, it was bad,
and still sweeping dirt out.
I just left the tables andeverything inside the camper and
I said you know what I'll dealwith that before I go up to
Neerfest, so I'll sweepeverything out and get it all
straightened out.
Adam's coming to Neerfest and Ithink one of our other buddies,
(04:43):
tim, is coming to Neer.
It's, uh, it's going to be aparty on the hill.
We've already got our plans setup so we'll figure out the
camping situation when we getthere.
But, um, yeah, it's, uh, it's,it's, it's been, it's been a
nice week of work and justtrying to keep it, to keep it
together until until near fest.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, I mean, what's
that's like?
Two weeks out, three weeks outnow, at this point, almost
October, yeah, coming up quick, cool, all right.
Well, we're looking forward tothat for sure.
But yeah, outside of that, gladyou know you were able to put
it through another rinse cycle.
You know, maybe we'll.
We'll see where it goes fromthere, whether it survives, so
(05:27):
awesome, well over to you, matt.
What's been going on with you, buddy?
Are you uh back in uh homegrounds and, uh, you know how?
Speaker 1 (05:35):
how's things there?
Back to normal almost.
Oh yeah, pretty much.
I still got the sand in the car.
They speaking of what tortoisewas saying you know, um, I got
to clean that out for the nexttrip, but that was a blast.
I'm glad I went and on the wayback.
I even saw Mike on the side ofthe road doing some parks on the
air and had to pop an illegalU-turn and say hello.
(05:55):
So I drove right next to himand just stared at him while he
was looking straight on theradio and I'm like I'm going to
stalk you for a little bit there, mike, straight on the radio,
and I'm like I'm gonna stalk youfor a little bit there, mike.
So I had to interrupt his uh,parks on the air activation and,
uh, we got a little two meter70 centimeter contacts in and uh
, but someone was like you know, obviously he was spotted.
So they're like hey, uh, uh,there's a park to park or I'm
(06:18):
looking for my n2mak.
So we had to jump back inaction and I got out of vermont.
But, no, I had a blast, I can'twait to go to near fest.
And you guys inspired me,actually booked a campsite Not
too far from me, actually aboutan hour North, and for the
Pennsylvania QSO party.
So I'm going to be camping out.
(06:39):
And then the park ranger sentme an email saying hey, you
booked when there is extremelyhigh bear activity because it's
October and they're allcrunching down.
And I'm like awesome, bring insome, some bear steaks, they're
going to be there.
So that's, that's pretty muchit.
I'll pass it on to the next guy.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Cool, Awesome, All
right Well over to you, Chris.
How's things with you, sir?
Speaker 6 (07:09):
right well over to
you chris, how's things uh?
With you, sir.
Um, I'm going fine, sorry.
Yeah, all right.
So, um, everything's goinggreat.
Um, just uh, back to the thegrind.
It was nice to get away for theweekend and, uh, new hampshire
is beautiful, vermont'sbeautiful.
Uh, new York Can I forget NewYork?
(07:30):
Um?
Speaker 2 (07:31):
no, I don't know, can
you Uh?
Speaker 1 (07:33):
oh, mike, so long.
Speaker 6 (07:40):
But no, it was great
coming out and just, uh, hanging
out with everyone and just, uh,all about the eyeball QSOs.
Sweet yeah, it was good to seeyou, man.
And I mean, no, it was greatcoming out and just hanging out
with everyone, and just allabout the eyeball QSOs.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Sweet, yeah, it was
good to see you, man, and I mean
you probably.
I think out of all of us didthe well, no second longest.
I know Bob is the one that Itailed it all the way from
Missouri there and I think he'ssomewhere in the chat.
Speaker 5 (07:59):
I did see him earlier
, so good to have you but, in
all fairness, bob Flew and Chrisdrove all night long Very much,
so All night long.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
Becoming a habit.
I also did that for Huntsvilleas well, so I wouldn't recommend
it.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Negative three stars.
Thank you Awesome.
Well, it was definitely good tosee you, man, I.
It's always one of those thingsthat you know you see people on
the internet or you know inyoutube chats and stuff like
that, but you don't really get achance to do a name to a face
and do an eyeball cue so so itwas good to say hello and yeah,
it was a blast having you, so.
So with that over to you know,mr Satellite over there, and to
(08:46):
MAK, how's it going, mike?
Speaker 4 (08:50):
It's all good.
I am so glad I was able to fitthis in because and I mentioned
it to you guys in the summer,it's like, oh man, this is the
anniversary weekend.
My anniversary was like theMonday right after it.
So it's, you know, the weekendright before the anniversary.
I'm like I don't know.
And and for those who have kidslike that, that was the first
(09:10):
weekend after back to school andso much revolves around the
back to school calendar indifferent states go back at
different times.
But you know, anyone who's eversent the kids back to school
knows there's just so much thatstarts happening then and if,
whether it's sports activities, this, that, and I mean it's just
since I came back, actuallysince I went out there, it's
(09:33):
just been knocking futz, it'syou know.
It's totally been worth it.
I'm so glad I went.
I had an absolute blast.
I know we'll be talking aboutthat later, but it's just been
crazy like between work andfamily stuff and this and even
some ham radio stuff, because wejust I just had the VHF contest
this past weekend Install theradio in my car this morning.
(09:55):
Just so much, just so muchstuff going on.
It's just, it's been crazy, butit's like worth it.
It's just kind of like you knowhow you're just kicking the can
down the road, like if I canjust get through this week, if I
can just get through today, getthrough you know I'm already
thinking if I can just getthrough October.
We're not even there yet.
So that's how it's been, butit's all good.
(10:17):
Like I can't complain, man, Ihad an absolute blast and, like
Paul said, you know, thank youto everyone that participated
and that made this happen.
I know that you guys did somuch on the front end with the
planning and stuff, but there'sthere's even still stuff that's
happening now and discord hasbeen blowing up and it's just,
it's great.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
So thank you, totally
awesome to see the community
just totally explode.
I, you know, we, we, we had intrying to organize this, we had
a small little chat going on andand just, you know, once again
unraveled fast and everyone'sjust like constantly using that
as a private.
Like, dude, just get out, spread yourself out in the rest
of the discord.
Everybody else wants to hearthis stuff.
(10:56):
So it was good.
But, yeah, as uh, mike, uh, inthat private chat constantly, uh
, you know, kept not mike intomk tortoise, I should just say
tortoise.
Um, you know, kept postinglovey-dovey photos.
And you know, I share thesentiment, dude, like it's just
really good to just, like, youknow, have a bunch of great
(11:16):
friends, guys, you know, girls, that are all just like in the
ham radio and all into doing thesame stuff that I do and, and
you know, all the better, justto be able to, like, you know,
do it at a camp out, I mean awayfrom everything.
So cool, all right.
Well, we're gonna get into moreof that for sure.
And uh, I just uh gifted awhole bunch of uh radio or, I'm
(11:38):
sorry, memberships for mychannel.
So, uh, I just want to do aquick reach out to that Mike
Smith, ham Radio Tectonics.
Good to see you there.
Pota Powers got one for me.
Good to see those guys.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
They always get one.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
I know Well, yeah,
I'm the same way too, Mike,
Every time.
You know, I literally can't getoff a Grouch's channel and
start paying monthly because asI come to the end, I just
recycle back through again.
So it's my luck, I guess.
So, yeah, and James K for Trekthere.
Cool, well, thank you guys andwelcome the channel, but you
know it's a shift gears back.
Yeah, over to you, chris, youknow you.
(12:12):
Yeah, how are you guys doing?
You and Parker, I mean, cameall the way up from the Cape.
You know my parents, you knowsection of the, you know the
country, but good to have youguys on how you guys are doing.
Speaker 10 (12:22):
Yeah, we're doing
good.
We finally dried out.
Took a couple days for my bootsto actually fully dry out, but
tent's good.
So we're looking at Nearfest inthe near future to get up there
.
It was really fun.
Had a blast hanging out withyou guys, so it was just great
meeting everybody, and I'mactually thinking about doing a
(12:44):
24 hour down here.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
so trying to put
something in.
Man, I'll be there, I'lldefinitely head down that way,
for sure.
Speaker 10 (12:52):
Mass is, you know,
only two hours away from me, no
problem, yeah yeah, so we'retrying to do something down here
and it'll probably be in thespringtime.
Okay, yeah, line me up.
All right, cool.
Oh yeah, no, definitely had ablast, uh, just watching
everybody do everything, and andthen the rain happened.
But it wouldn't be new englandwithout it.
Speaker 7 (13:12):
Right, right, exactly
as dry as it's been, it figured
we'd go, and then there's whatfour or five tornadoes in middle
mass yeah, yeah, as long asthey weren't by us.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
I was, that was my
all you guys are like watching
your apps and Bob is like youknow, hey, dude, there's like
five tornado warnings in thearea.
I think we should like.
I'm like Bob, I don't want tohear it.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
Like it's an issue.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
I can't deal with it
right now, but I appreciate you
looking at the radar that's bob,and he lives in missouri, so
you know he knows, though it's alittle different out there.
Speaker 7 (13:46):
Yeah, it's way
different out there cool.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
How about you, parker
?
Good to see you on the.
You know the stream heretonight and you know thank you
for hanging out with us old oldguys here.
You know appreciate uh,bringing up the level, uh, but
I'm sure we didn't bore youbecause I know grouch kept you
busy with fishing and a wholeshit ton of other stuff.
So it was really cool.
But how are you doing?
Speaker 10 (14:05):
I'm doing perfectly
fine Starting school again.
Speaker 7 (14:09):
So now just trying to
swab everything back to that,
but I did really have a fun timewhen we did go out for the 24
hour and we're still chargingthose batteries that we use Two
big ones, they completely weredrained Wow, it took four days
to fully charge one battery.
Speaker 10 (14:30):
battery, that's how
bad we drained that one.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
wow you brought it
down, nothing.
That was crazy.
Wow, that's impressive.
Well, you know, I was, I thinkwe actually the one I borrowed
from ryan was, uh, similar, thatsame way.
It's like.
It was like I knew Ryan said hefully charged it, but I think
when we got to a certain point,we were just, you know, it was
done and we ended up swappingthat thing out, and I haven't
talked to Ryan if he's, you know, recharged that yet.
(14:54):
So cool, well, good to see youthere in the chat there and,
izzo, we definitely see youthere.
So good, thanks for hanging outwith us tonight.
Um and uh, so, yeah, I mean, obviously we got a bunch of
stuff that we want to kind ofdive into, but I guess, you know
, I'll throw the question out toyou guys and, um, you know,
someone can chime in and figureout who wants to go first.
(15:15):
I, I don't have to go in theorder I did, but, um, you know
what was like your kind offavorite memory out of like, so
far, you know, know, of thewhole entire weekend.
Speaker 5 (15:26):
All right, I got this
good first.
Thank you to tortoise for thefive gifted memberships Whiskey
zero, uniform Quebec.
Juliet Kelly got one, renee sixgot one, bob cough got one and
George Casey one.
Tqf got one.
My favorite part of the wholefucking thing was catching the
(15:48):
fish.
Yes, and I caught you catchingthe fish.
It was such fortuitous timingthat it was literally my third
cast and I hooked into this twopound bass.
And there comes the cameras.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Paparazzi man.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
Well, you know, now
you have a truthful story.
It's not like you can say youcaught this two-pound bass and
we don't have any photoswhatsoever.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
Yeah exactly, wow,
okay.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
Yeah, exactly, wow,
okay, all right.
Fishing I don't see thecorrelation to ham radio, but
that works, it's all good.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
When you can't play
ham radio because of the rain,
just go stand in the water andtoss a line in.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Guaranteed man.
An antenna line too do qrp fromthe shore?
Yeah cool, all right.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Well, anybody else
got anything you want to throw
in yeah, I, I gotta, I gottatalk about the, the antenna for
160 meters, because like thatthat was just not just was that
fun, but that kind of saved theday with some of the operations
and stuff.
And you know, I brought it upand we're just yeah, without a
doubt, that saved the day.
Speaker 7 (17:14):
Phenomenally saved
the day.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
You know, joe and
Discord just me being me and you
know, leave no band behind Iwas like, all right, we got to
do 160 meters, especially foroperating overnight.
We got to give some, you know, some of those low bands a shot
and, and you know, matt and Iand some others were talking
about, you know, just throwingup a dipole or or or a random
(17:37):
wire and some different things.
And I think we kind of settled, especially when I just said
I'll bring stuff, I'll bringwire, I'll bring tools.
We're going to build this thingin the field, which we did, but
we'll see the layout when weget there.
And I think we all kind ofagreed the best way was just to
do like a slope or random wire.
And, uh, you know, being lazy,I had this.
(17:58):
I had 119, 20 feet of of uhwire left of this b and tech go
wire and I'm like, let's see ifwe can just use this.
And so, uh, we, we, you know, crimp on terminals, hook it up
to uh or the, the reliance nineto one, throw it up in the tree
and it's up there a good 40 feetor so.
(18:20):
Nice sloper, not in the way,and where it came down to the
feed point.
It was going to be optimal forrunning coax to the to the
station.
So it just it's like this isgoing to work.
And we got the g90 and it g90wouldn't even tune this thing
and we're like, what, what theheck?
So I kind of was like, allright, maybe it's just a little
(18:43):
too short.
So I opened up a brand new reel.
I wanted to try to get rid ofthat B&T wire, but I had a brand
new reel of 100 meters of sodabeams wire.
So I'm like, fine, I'll open upthe, you know, taking the
plastic off.
And so we had done the mathsbefore and we're like 148 feet
(19:06):
is, is is a good length andit'll be just over a quarter
wave.
And and so we, we measure itout.
I, I had the measuring tape.
This is like as easy it is justto cut wire and crimp on a
terminal.
You know it's a lot of wirelike we needed a ton of space.
And so we get it, we throw itup and they're like, screw it,
(19:29):
let's use the hundred andsomething feet of wire as a
counterpoise.
Like you know, this is like youknow, the counterpoise your
wife told you not to worry about.
It's 120 feet long.
It's crazy right and the g90sstill won't tune the thing.
All right, what's going on?
And Matt's like maybe it's thecoax.
I bought it from a hand fest.
(19:50):
The guy told me the coax wasstill good.
And I'm like what?
We switch out the coax and, sureenough, boom.
And not only did the G90 tuneit, but the Yaesu FTD-X10s.
Both of them tuned it with theinternal tuner, no external
(20:10):
tuner necessary, on every singleband from 6 to 160.
And you know that antenna camein really, really handy,
especially after there was somedamage to the buddy hacks and
stuff.
But you know to, just you knowto, to, you know, as I always
like to say, rf around and findout to do that in the field, not
just build 160 meter antenna, but do it in the freaking field.
(20:37):
Um, in those conditions, youknow it, it it worked out well
and and uh, you know, I I had tosay my goodbyes because, as I
was leaving, that antenna wasstill in use and it still in use
and it was just great to see.
So that was my favorite part,it was just messing around and
then just being absolutelysurprised at the results.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
Yeah, great antenna
man, although I have one gripe
and one complaint Kitewinders,freaking kitewinders.
Put the damn wire onkitewinders because I don't know
who wound it, and stuck it inmy truck and said you know, get
this to is.
I know it wasn't you, Mike, because you had gone already.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
We were gone.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
I literally had the
proverbial Christmas lights.
when I brought it in, it waslike you know the the soda beans
wire and everything was justlike this big rat's nest of wire
and I was like, oh, I, I gottasit here and untangle this in
order to be able to get it backto iso.
Because you guys are like, oh,get it to iso.
I'm like, yeah, sure, noproblem.
And so, long story short, yeah,I spent literally 45 minutes
untangling although I have togive credit the soda beams wire
that is slick as snot.
(21:36):
My friend, that like did notkink up, that did not like hang
up.
I was just like stretch it allout, all good and true story
from today the soda beams wire.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
It's, it's wednesday,
so I'm up early to get my first
son on the bus at 5 30 and it'slike all right, win link
wednesday.
I got my 30 meter and fed withthe reliance uh 56 to 1 and soda
beams wire and I got thatstrung up from the deck to the
fence and at you know six in themorning, 30 meters was was not
(22:08):
my friend.
I tried forever, could not getthrough on wind link, made an
fta contact just to make surethings are working and then just
started to pack up.
But I had not had coffee.
So I get a text from my wife atlike you know, in the afternoon
, like, did you mean to leavethe wire up in the backyard for
the antenna?
I was like, oh no, I totallyforgot.
(22:29):
It was early, it was dark, Iforgot she goes okay.
Well, jake got clotheslined byit and I was like what my
youngest was riding his myyoungest likes to ride around on
his like electric scooter inthe backyard and chase after the
dogs.
And what was?
Speaker 1 (22:44):
going on.
Did you get that on video likesecurity?
Speaker 4 (22:48):
no, no, I wasn't
there and I was like and she's
like, don't worry, he's okay, and I was like okay the wire is
up and she's like yeah and Itook it down when I got home
from work and I mean I was likethis is good wire.
I like the bntech go stuff.
The silicone stuff's nice, butlike the soda beams, is is nice
too.
So it gets points for thestrength definitely yep.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
So, iso, your, your
antenna is safely wound over in
the corner, ready to go and youknow, when you reach out to me
in october to say, hey, comedown, you know I'll bring it
with me and you'll be good to goand you can deal with the you
know long wire yourself andfigure out how to wrap that
thing.
Is, shannon, how you doing?
Hello everybody how are we allthis?
(23:35):
Evening oh, we're peachy,wonderful, excellent.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
I see shannon uh,
other shannon in the chat and
I'm wearing my hillbilly hamsshirt that I won from the
giveaway at the 24-hour podacamp out nice nice, very cool.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Well, welcome.
And uh, you know we'll kick itoff with you, right?
I mean, obviously we've alreadygone around once, but uh, you
know how are you doing what'sgoing on.
And uh, we're just already gonearound once, but you know how
are you doing what's going on,and we're just, you know, kind
of talking about, you know kindof one of our favorite memories,
or you know, things we haverecalled from the 24-hour poda.
That was, you know,impressioning.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Gee.
Well, I mean I'm sure nobodymentioned the torrential
downpour and storm and two feet.
That was a bit of anexaggeration.
Two inches of water.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
It might as well have
been two more.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Like a train.
Yes, in the bottom of you knowMike's tent there.
What?
There was a storm in the bottomof, uh, you know Mike's, uh,
mike's tent there.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
Well, there was a
storm.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Exactly, grouchy was
in there for the full you know
giveaway never came out duringthe rain.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
People were just like
opening my door and throwing
shit in on the couch and I waslike, yeah, okay, flying around,
yeah, yeah, couch.
And I was like, yeah, okay, flying around, yeah, yeah, the
big, the big thing was theawnings right, because both eric
and I had our awnings out onthe, on the rvs and I was like,
oh shit, like look at that wind.
(25:17):
Yeah, I don't, I don't knowlike when?
Speaker 2 (25:20):
I got back I was like
todd's like oh, I hit the
button for the awning, but Ithink I I hit the button for the
awning, but I think I also hitthe button for the slide out.
So the slide out was alreadylike compressed inside the
trailer and I'm like thatexplains like when I'm walking,
I'm like tripping over thingswhen I go in there and I'm just
like why is this like this?
And then Todd's like oh yeah, Ihit the wrong button and I
forgot to fix it, like okay.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
I had to close the
awning because Todd couldn't
figure it out.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
That's not surprising
, which you know.
Hey, all in all, it was allgood.
I mean, I even had to spend, like you know, a crash course
trying to figure out whichbuttons do what.
All good.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
Remember back in the
day when you had to crank an
awning no.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
No.
Speaker 7 (26:04):
Never.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Shannon, they're not
old enough, oh okay, oh, kiss my
ass, I'm old enough.
It was a crank.
I just never did it so cool, all right, well, uh, you know.
So anybody fond memory outsideof rain?
Yeah well, you care to share?
Speaker 7 (26:29):
oh, seeing as how
shannon's here uh, we employed
miles to uh become the uh waterevacuation crew trench digger I
had a shovel in my truck and Isaid, hey, you want to do
something?
And he's like sure.
And I said, well, here's ashovel, go dig a trench, drain
(26:50):
the water out.
He was out there digging, Iswear to God, in the rain for
three hours.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Well, we know that.
You know we're not going toever park where Mike parked to
set up our tents, exactly.
Speaker 7 (27:03):
Yeah, that would
would be.
But you know, if I parked outin the grass where I wanted to
park, I wouldn't have had noproblems I don't know, it was
pretty wet out there too, but itwas soggy yeah it was soggy,
but at least it would have beengrass and not mud and dirt and
everything else.
Speaker 10 (27:19):
But I'm just glad
that me and mike actually, or
matt actually moved our tents,oh yeah yeah definitely you're
gonna be right in that hole, ohyeah oh my god yeah it's funny,
the ranger warned me of that.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
But then he was like
you know, we probably won't see
much rain this weekend and I'mlike, oh, okay, cool.
He's like, yeah, it gets really, like you know, wet fast.
And I'm like like, how wet.
He's like well, it was floodedback in april all over this
place.
So you know, if that gives youany indication, then you know
you probably want to like findthe high points and I'm just
like, oh, everyone will be fine.
And you know, of course, everybody parked on the high
(27:54):
points instead of putting theirtents on the high points.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
So yeah, lesson
learned yeah, meanwhile,
people's wells are drying up innew hampshire and they're in
like a drought condition.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
The one weekend it
rained was the weekend of the
podocampo oh yeah, never failsright well, as I was telling
paul and todd, I'm like for fouryears in our like our club
field days we've had like theold guys constantly go we're
gonna get rain eventually.
And lo and behold, once theystarted to say that like every
(28:26):
year after that, sequentially,we've gotten rain and so we've
prepared and we've known likewhat to bring.
And you know, paul's uh, youknow field day box had literally
everything in it except for,you know, maybe one or two
things we probably need yeahrain?
well, no, we had a couple oftarps and stuff.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
Yeah, I could have
used a couple extra rainflies,
but Matt came to the rescue andI've still got his extra rainfly
Nice.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
That's actually a
good question how much stuff,
like, does people have that issomebody else's stuff?
And should we just, like youknow, basically create a list
now so we can figure out how tomake a list now, so we can, you
know, figure out how to makeappropriate swaps when we do
meet up?
Speaker 5 (29:08):
oh, my wooden serving
spoons are gone oh, no, um,
wait, wait.
Speaker 7 (29:16):
I'll tell you where
the wooden wooden serving spoons
went.
We were trying to, we weretrying to do the barbecue and Mr
Eric went I know where there'ssome spoons, right up in the
year trailer and got someservings.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
No, those weren't out
of his trailer.
Those were out of the rental.
Speaker 7 (29:35):
No, not the wooden
ones.
Speaker 5 (29:37):
Yeah, I pulled wooden
ones out, oh no, so did you put
my wooden ones in your rental.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Well, somebody I
think Bob cleaned them and so
they were just sitting on thetable and in my half, like so
they're in somebody's trailer.
So let me know what you needfor wooden spoons.
I'll get you some, because Idropped the trailer off and to
the owner.
I was like dude, there's extragarbage bags, there's extra
plates, there's extra napkins, there's all that crap.
(30:06):
I don't want it, you can keepit.
He's like oh, thank you.
So yeah, he's probably gonna belike why do I have like 18
wooden spoons?
Speaker 4 (30:15):
you know what.
You know what we got to do.
We should see if we can get umshane this side of the radio,
shane from clubhouse to put theGrouch logo or call sign on some
wind springs with this lasertype thing and then it won't
happen again.
Yeah, it will.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
I'll be like why this
monogram with a weird letter
number and three letters and oneOG?
Speaker 7 (30:43):
It's such an odd name
.
Speaker 2 (30:49):
That's where your
spills went, paul.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
Okay, mystery solved
we figured it out, yeah all
right.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Well, anybody else
got a interesting memory or
something that you know theywant to throw out there?
Who done it?
Yeah, who took it exactly?
And yeah, we have a yellow coaxsomewhere, you know, hanging
out.
Speaker 5 (31:14):
I ended up with an
extra live free and ham glass
which we identified as ChrisBreakers yeah, I already have
one and I was like speaking of.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
They aren't
monogrammed, so you know you can
claim it, it's probably mine.
I know I had taken a couple ofthem and I have to send to you
guys all because I'm a moron inall of the stuff that we did the
entire weekend.
I had a box with all of thestuff that I was just going to
give away to people, and so Iknow a few.
You guys got them, but thosethat were at the camp out, I got
a bunch of stickers, so likethe 24 hour pod of stickers, so
(31:49):
if you haven't got one, let meknow and I'll send you a bunch
because, yeah, bring them to mefirst, man, bring them to me,
yeah, okay, I definitely willand uh, we'll pass them around.
If, uh, you know, or for chrisor mike and doing mckay, uh you
know, I'll send him your way ifyou didn't get any I'll probably
see mike before.
Speaker 6 (32:09):
Uh, the rest of you.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Okay, I'll send him
to mike.
He's a little closer, he's likeyes, I, I will be.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
I just found out
today.
I will be in in albany in thebeginning of october briefly and
I got to coordinate some plansbut I might be able to maybe
meet up or if anyone wants tomake the trip to Massachusetts
or Connecticut or somethingnearby, I got to look and stuff
(32:41):
Sounds like a plan.
I'll be halfway there.
Speaker 5 (32:47):
So we'll meet up in
vermont I got vermont john.
Speaker 7 (32:56):
I gotta, I gotta, I
gotta I gotta turn massachusetts
and connecticut green, so allhe has to do is drive across.
What is it?
Um, the pass there, uh, onroute seven, coming over for uh
into north adams, and uh, he can, uh, he can uh activate both
new york and massachusetts justby rolling over is that, that
park that's like five parks andone that spans the whole entire
(33:18):
mass into yeah, it's some weirdthing.
Yeah, it's a mass thing, weit's a mass thing.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Yeah, it's a mass
thing we all mass hold things,
it's a mass thing?
I have no idea.
Fuck that.
Sorry, Chris, People in theCape, you know very much
separate themselves fromMassachusetts.
Speaker 10 (33:39):
a lot, I think, yeah
, but just remember I'm from New
Hampshire originally, right, ohwell okay.
Speaker 7 (33:44):
So then you're good.
Where does the Cape start?
Speaker 10 (33:48):
Cape starts when you
pass over the bridge.
There you go, Yep that's forsure.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Once you go over the
bridge, you're done.
It's a whole new world.
So yeah, from memory for meI'll throw one out there.
I have to say, minus me runningaround like picking up barbecue
and going to the you know ourclub event on Saturday, which I,
you know, tip learned I willnever coordinate Like we're
going to have to move our eventto another weekend just so I'm
(34:16):
not like running around like acrazy man doing something for
the club and doing something foryou know a live free in hand.
Because that's the one thing Ithink I missed out on was like
just hanging out and doing someyou know, you know activities
and just saying hello to people.
I think I did like you know thetypical hugs like hey, good to
see you, and then I'm off tolike doing the next thing.
So I was like, ah, I reallywish I spent a little more time
(34:36):
doing some of that stuff.
Uh, just like grouch, um.
So you know, I guess, uh, mymemory would have to be just
friday night, I think.
Like once we like I don't knowwhat, like we were thinking like
I, bob and I went shoppingearlier on thursday and we must
have shopped when we were superhungry because we bought way too
(34:57):
many freaking steaks and likelike I don't know what it was
like, bob spent probably closeto like you know two, three
hundred alone on his cart and Idon't know what I can, I don't
know what I was.
Bob spent probably close to $200, $300 alone on his cart and I
don't know what I put in hiscart.
But he kind of went off to adifferent register and I did
mine and then when we unloadedon Friday night, I was like wow,
we got like eight or ten steaksand then Todd brought steak
(35:20):
tips and then we had all thefixings and everything else like
that.
So we were all eating wellsteak tips, and then we had all
the you know fixings andeverything else like that.
So we were all eating well, um,but yeah, I think, uh, I I
guess my one takeaway is I'mglad I sucked down a lot more of
those uh, you know um littlebottles of, uh, um, corona baby
coronas yes the female version.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
I think you guys are
commenting that the female
versions of Corona.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
No slant against you,
shannon, but you know I I was.
I was trying to like not have ahangover Saturday morning,
going and doing everything else,so I was kind of pre-planning
for that.
But I got like my memory islike just, you know, hanging out
having fun, you know, watchinggrouch, just kind of go off the
handle.
As always it was fun.
Speaker 5 (36:09):
You know, it was
really cool to see and I, I
might've, I might've lost myshit for a little bit.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
It was fine, you calm
down, check back in and it was
just like you know, for thosethat don't know the grouch and
you know, you know he kind ofgoes off of those spins every
once in a while.
The tangent was like it was.
It was well worth it.
Hopefully those on the livestream got a little kick out of
it, for sure.
I mean you can go back toreplay and check that out.
But yeah, it was fun, like youknow, like watching Mike
constantly jumping up every five, 10 minutes going where's SO50?
(36:35):
So51's coming up next, and thenthey'd sprint out to the tent
and then they all come back andlike we almost had it and the
battery died.
Speaker 4 (36:45):
Like Mike, I'm
sending you a new battery.
That's all I'm going to say.
They're charged up now.
I just, it was a fluke, I can'tremember how I why I decided to
look, because when I was atHamvention I went to Batteries
America and they looked it upand they're like nope, this
battery is out of production.
I mean, the radios werediscontinued a while ago and
(37:07):
it's a Linko DJG7.
And it's a full duplex tri-bandHT and I've never had issues
with it in contest.
Know, these are older batteries, for sure, and uh, and it just
as soon as I start transmitting, like after a few seconds, it
(37:31):
just die out and the battery dayand I I looked at they, them.
They have them in stock rightnow at dx engineering and ham
radio outlet.
They're dead stock and I Ibought two and I charged them up
last night.
So they're on the chargingcradles fully charged right now.
So I'll be back at it.
But if anything, hey, that's a.
(37:52):
That was a good learningexperience.
Um, you know, I thought I might.
I know that there's been someissues or people have said that
sometimes there's like a phantomdrain, current drain with some
of the Elinko HTs, and so Igenerally keep it disconnected,
the battery unplugged, when I doit or I'm not using them.
(38:12):
But I figure you know they'rejust more charged up.
Oh, a learning experience.
Speaker 7 (38:19):
Are they NiCad or
lithiums Mike?
Speaker 4 (38:21):
They're lithiums
Really.
Speaker 7 (38:24):
Interesting.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Yeah, yeah, lithiums,
mike, they're lithiums, really
interesting.
Yeah, yeah, it was a bummerbecause I know todd like
constantly was like followingyou out there and you were like,
yeah, we almost got one and wealways like, made a contact and
then, like the battery goessouth it was the clearest.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
It was the clearest
audio we heard on that for the
satellite.
Speaker 5 (38:40):
Yeah, oh, dude, the
the last pass on the night on
Saturday when, when Mike and Iwent out, like it was so crystal
clear and he goes to key up andnothing.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
No, yeah, we had
K-Booty on over Sunday.
Mike, you were on the live chatfor an episode and we were
sharing that.
On over Sunday, mike, you wereon the live chat for an episode
and we were sharing that and hewas just like dude, it's like
those satellites are reallyreally good or they're just like
really really horizontal, likethe low pass range.
It's really tough.
But yeah, it was like well, ifyou had a good battery, I think
you probably would have nailedit.
(39:17):
It would have been like the win.
Speaker 4 (39:20):
I'll get one
eventually.
It's one of the goals.
It's, I think, the last goal.
I got to check the box on thisyear and stuff, but I'll get
back out there in the next weekor so when things come down and
now that I got the new batteries.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Well, dude, I give
you credit, man, because I only
went as far as bringing my Arrowantennas with me.
And guess where they stayed Inthe trailer Like I didn't even
take them out.
So, like you know, I give youcredit, man.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
You know, way, way,
way far ahead in the curve of
getting some satellite contacts,it's you know and paul saw, we
have it on video when the firstnight before we started the camp
out officially, I I was thrownout my call when I tried, but I
I was going to and if I wouldhave made a satellite cue so it
(40:07):
would have been with the livefree and ham club call I was
going to use and you know, thatwould have been, I think,
hilarious, but also that wouldhave been really cool for the
first contact to be made with.
And I told Paul, like if theycome back I'm throwing out my
call right after too.
Speaker 9 (40:24):
I told Paul I'm like
if they come back I'm throwing
out my call right after too.
Speaker 4 (40:28):
But I don't know that
there's many, many people out
there to be willing to try.
You know, using a club call tomake their first sale.
So it was fun, Give it a shot.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Hey, set the bar high
and you know, if it's just our
club call and you fail, you knowno loss, all right.
Well, you know a bunch ofpeople in the chat.
I'm trying to stay ahead of theflow there, so it's good to see
everybody chit-chatting andwhatnot.
But yeah, anybody else got agood memory.
Oh, talking to your dog again.
Speaker 7 (41:01):
Yeah, the
two-and-a-half-pound terrorist
is in heat and I got both boyslike this underneath the couch
oh god we don't need video thatI think you keep your camera on
you she's sitting there growlingat him.
I'm like just knock it off andgo lay down.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
This is not the end
and tonight david attenborough
is going to narrate thefornication of dogs.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
Nice, mike, all right
.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Well, anybody else
got a fond memory before.
We kind of dive into some ofthe other stuff and I wanted to
share with folks, as I'm surethey're super.
Speaker 5 (41:42):
How about Todd?
Since he's the last one to join, can you guys?
Speaker 7 (41:46):
hear me, can you hear
me?
We can hear you today.
Speaker 8 (41:49):
All right, Sweet.
So I don't know.
I think the thing that was whenthe storm came.
I mean it was just freaking allout chaos.
Radios were being ripped out of, the wires were being ripped
out, Tents were blowing overWater was.
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:06):
Yeah, we were always
down there.
No rain yeah.
Speaker 8 (42:10):
So that was yeah,
that was a good memory.
I'd say it was a bad memory, but one that won't be forgotten.
Speaker 7 (42:20):
Who put the baggie
over the camper?
The camper camera.
I did, oh okay, had to begrouch.
Who put the baggie over thecamper camera?
Speaker 1 (42:25):
I did.
Speaker 7 (42:26):
Oh, paul, yeah, it
had to be Grouch, yeah, because
all of a sudden there was a wetbaggie over the live stream.
A camera condom.
Speaker 2 (42:33):
Well, it was funny
because he put a bag over it
earlier in the day and then theheavy wind came by Friday and
Todd's tent wasn't staked down.
And it was so hilarious becauseFriday Paul and I were like, oh
, we can finally relax.
We got everything set up, weset the outer fly on the radio
tent and then all of a suddenthis big whipping wind comes.
(42:53):
Before that actually happened, all of a sudden the little
Ziploc bag that he put on top ofthe camera, which is on top of
the trailer, flew off into thegrass.
I'm like, why are we seeinglike that?
And then all of a sudden I lookbehind me and Todd's tent
literally like I don't know gustof wind picked it up through it
(43:13):
at the you know station tentand everything over, we just put
up, so all right.
Speaker 8 (43:15):
So I, when I got home
, I uh, the first sunny day I
took it, I reopened it, cause itwas wet, aired it out and I
inspected it.
Well, well, what I inspected isnot only is there like outside
pegs the strings, but there'salso inside pegs to peg it down.
So I'm like neither we're doneright.
(43:37):
So now I'm like all right, Ineed seven little like the metal
ones.
I need seven of the plastictent stakes.
And then I need I need one ofthe strings was missing, so I
need six.
But I'm going to get seven real, real strings, not the cheap
shit they put on like power cordwith those tighteners.
(43:57):
So next year, like that thingain't moving, you know, unless
it moves it's going to rip apart.
Speaker 5 (44:07):
Get yourself some 550
cord man 550 cord works for
everything.
Speaker 8 (44:12):
Right.
Well, that's what I'm talkingabout, because the shit that I
had was like, first of all, oneof them was missing.
It wasn't even connected to thetent.
And then I'm like, well, thisshit is like junk, I'm like a
good gust of wind will probablyjust rip it.
So I'm like, well, this shit islike, it's like junk, I'm like
a good gust of wind, I'llprobably just rip it.
So I'm uh, what it did?
Yeah.
So I'm uh, I'm repurposing andre-modifying that tent and I
(44:32):
also looked for more panels forit and for some reason they
don't make the gray color.
So I'm gonna have three grayand, I think, two brown.
I don't really give a shit, butwhen it rains, we want to have
some.
Uh, because you know, if youhave those screens up and it
starts pouring like that and thewinds are blowing, you're gonna
(44:52):
get soaked anyway.
I mean, I walked into that tentand like every chair was
sopping wet, there was likepuddles on.
I'm like, how could this evenhappen?
Speaker 7 (45:01):
I dried one of them
out with my butt.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
Yeah, I I you know,
for what it's worth.
I think I was going back andremember how, paul, you and I
put our cameras out on timelapse over and over again while
they're sitting on the field.
My camera died literally beforethe tent started to do the
whole entire pickup.
(45:24):
I was like damn it that wouldhave been a perfect, you know,
perfect opportunity for it to beable to pick it up, and I was
like, of course, that's the onetime the battery dies.
Speaker 5 (45:32):
I'll have to check my
footage Cause I might've got it
.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
You might've.
I think there's a part in therewhere you walk back to go.
You walk across the field ofview and it's know you're
obviously off doing whatever onthe right hand side, which is
your camera.
So, yeah, curious to see if youpicked it up.
Speaker 5 (45:46):
Yeah well, because.
So my camera kept blowing overin the wind, and so I took my
tool bag and I put my tool bagon the on the little stand, so
that it wouldn't blow over.
Speaker 8 (45:59):
yeah, well, next year
everything, I'm going to be
bringing tons of power cord andtons of rope tighteners and I'm
going to make sure everything islike tied down and nothing's
coming off.
Even if you freaking pull oneoff, it's going to have another
one backing it up.
Speaker 5 (46:16):
Metal tent stakes
everywhere.
Speaker 8 (46:18):
Yeah, it's going to
be like Fort Knox Nothing's.
We won't be able to take itdown.
We're like dude, it's just gotto stay up here until next year.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
Todd, why do you have
a 22 gauge nailer putting the
10 stakes in the ground?
I want to sink them inpermanently.
Speaker 8 (46:35):
But I will say this
After the POTA camp out,
whatever we want to call it I'vebeen really motivated and I
have done now four parks at therail trail and I just want to
announce that I am now ahead oferic, oh so I have like, I have
like, I think I, I, I don't knowI got like maybe 50, 48 to go
(47:02):
to get to 9.
So probably be working on thatat lunchtime tomorrow, but today
, today was tough.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
The band the bands
were good, but there was no one
on the air.
Have you uploaded your logs?
Have you uploaded your logs?
You are literally five contactsahead of me.
That's nothing, okay, come on.
Speaker 8 (47:24):
I am number one.
Speaker 5 (47:26):
It doesn't matter if
you win by an inch or by a mile.
Winning's winning.
Speaker 8 (47:30):
No one remembers
second place.
Speaker 1 (47:33):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (47:36):
Dude, how long were
you sitting on second place
there, my friend?
Speaker 5 (47:39):
If you're not first,
you're last, uh-huh.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
Rubbin's racing.
Is that what we're?
Speaker 8 (47:44):
going to.
Did anyone work radio today?
Did anyone do hf today exceptme?
So the bands were great, exceptthere was no one on the air,
like literally no one on the air.
Like I waited and waited andfinally I was like, fuck this,
I'm just gonna go hunt and likehunting people is no problem
because there's like 20 peopleon and I could meet, I could
(48:06):
reach like 10 of them, but Idon't know what the deal was.
I'm like where are all thesepeople?
My hair malone on him has beengoing off the grid.
There you go.
So how come you're not workingme?
I try, I got a connecticuttoday yeah's probably ground
wave.
Yeah, well, I've been gettingRyan W1SNH.
(48:27):
He comes in and I've got youknow on the weaker signals.
I got the volume up and all ofa sudden he comes in and like
blows me off the you know out ofthe way, I'm like holy crap,
you got the food.
But yeah.
So Eric, we're getting.
You know it's getting there.
I mean, I figured one or twomore activations and I'm going
to stop at 975, so I got to makesure I can activate the park.
(48:49):
So I'm going to have, At least,if I get to like 965 and I got
to go, then I'm going to stopand then I'll come and do 10
more and I'm going to end at 975and then you get to 975 and
then we get rid of this suckerand kilo it hey about time, it's
only been two years with this.
Speaker 7 (49:11):
What you guys are
talking about?
Um, what is it?
The?
The ham depot that um shannoninvited me to, or it was either
shannon or annie.
I think it was Shannon.
They have the Battle Royale.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Oh for him.
Speaker 7 (49:31):
For FT8.
Yeah, yeah.
What if we did that for POTA?
What if we had?
Speaker 8 (49:41):
a bot for POTA.
What do?
Speaker 7 (49:41):
you mean what?
Speaker 8 (49:43):
if you had a bot for
POTA, what?
Speaker 7 (49:46):
do you mean?
So what's really cool about theFTA is it gives you points and
it gives you multipliers.
It's kind of like a contest,but it's just a server bot on
that server that you just put aredirect for broadcasting your
FTA contacts and it just rollsin and at the end of the UTC day
(50:10):
it says hey, this person'sfirst, second, third, fourth why
can't we do something like thatfor POTA?
That'd be kind of cool, oh yeahthat would be cool.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Well, yeah, for FTA
it would be yeah.
Speaker 7 (50:21):
but like sideband
would be a little tougher.
Figure out how to do it forpoda.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
Well, as far as I
know, uh, good old guys over at
world radio league are workingon that, so I had I'd done poda
or for ft8 for poda.
Speaker 8 (50:35):
So just have the
number one poda activator for
the day they're, they'rebuilding in that gamification
kind of thing.
Speaker 2 (50:42):
So I did a brew and
activate on Sunday morning where
I we were talking about youknow, making gamification a real
thing, and poda and you know, they oh yeah we're working on it
so.
Speaker 8 (50:54):
Hey, you gotta you
should text me before you.
I always forget about that onSunday mornings yeah, I forgot
Sunday too.
Mostly.
You gotta like send me areminder or something.
Speaker 2 (51:04):
You're not subscribed
with notifications, I'll
exclaim then, so, just short ofme going over and setting your
alarm in your own bedroom and,you know, getting you to wake
you up as a you know courtesycall, like I'm the concierge of
your hotel day, you know,tortoise.
Speaker 8 (51:21):
Yeah, sure Do.
You want listeners, you knowget on it, dude.
Speaker 2 (51:24):
I have plenty of
listeners, those that actually
want to be.
Speaker 8 (51:27):
you know?
All I know is I get on the airand all of a sudden your
listeners like bolt to the radioand be like we got to work.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Todd, yeah, fine,
whatever.
Because you know, because theyall know, todd's like a miss,
like he's a misnomer, he's likethat little glitch in the system
, like he just randomly doesn't,like you know, do.
Pota for like seven, eightmonths, and all of a sudden he
appears.
Speaker 10 (51:48):
Hey, I was doing a
POTA on Sunday watching you yeah
.
Speaker 2 (51:52):
I mean, yeah, exactly
.
I mean what's your problem,todd?
Speaker 8 (51:54):
I mean God, I totally
forgot, until Jabberjaw was
like oh, I just left Eric's, youknow live stream like oh shit,
I could have been watching itwhile I was doing polar hell, I
was running a ham fest man.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
Yeah, I know he was
still on my live stream, so,
todd, all I have to say is ohit's frozen, oh damn it.
Uh, screw it all.
Right, there we go.
You're a huge embarrassingfailure yes, yeah, I didn't.
Speaker 8 (52:26):
I didn't work Shannon
today.
I was kind of disappointed.
It was almost like a guarantee.
Speaker 2 (52:32):
You don't get a
multiplier for working them.
You know that right.
You don't get a multiplier forworking them, you just get one
contact every time you make acontact with them.
Speaker 8 (52:41):
No, I get one for her
and one for him.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
But it's not a
multiplier.
You don't get like double thepoints for, like you know,
working the hillbilly hams.
Speaker 5 (52:51):
I think the hillbilly
hams should be worth double
points.
Speaker 8 (52:54):
Yeah, plus the other
day they were in a double park,
so I got four.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
Yeah and I would
agree with that, Paul.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Go ahead, Jenna.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
I think all YLs
should be double points.
Yes, I definitely agree withthat, Paul.
Go ahead, Jenna.
I think all YLs should bedouble points.
Speaker 1 (53:06):
Yes, I definitely
agree with that, yep.
Speaker 2 (53:10):
You know it depends,
like maybe if they're hunters,
Not like activators, becauselike you already have a leg up,
you know your voice alone, justlike gives you five more DB in
general.
Speaker 7 (53:22):
No, we didn't prove
that, Eric.
Speaker 2 (53:24):
No, we didn't prove
that, Eric.
No, we didn't.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ,
CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ,
CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ,CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ,
CQ, CQ, CQ, CQ, 10 contactsafter that.
Mike, where were you when wedid that?
I need another beer.
I'm already on my second one.
Speaker 2 (53:55):
I'm telling you guys,
you know this is my like
downfall, like anytime I findlike weird things.
You know, when you guys recordvideos it's just kind of cut the
clip.
You know it's sort of like.
You know, when you guys recordvideos, it's just kind of cough
and cut the clip.
You know it's sort of like youknow ammunition, but anyway.
So let's get back to the topichere you know, 24-hour poter, my
friends you know.
(54:15):
So obviously we had a greatweekend.
You know any, any, any othergreat memories you guys have.
Speaker 8 (54:20):
Before we kind of
dive into some of the cool stuff
, yeah, falling asleep at theradio waiting for, I think,
chris to come relieve Me, I'mlike and I literally like
nodding off.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
I'm like when is he?
Speaker 8 (54:32):
and he's like I'll be
right Back.
I just got to go to thebathroom.
Well, the bathroom's like aquarter of a mile Away.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
I'm pretty I'm pretty
sure that Chris was so fucking
tired that he didn't know whatthe hell he was saying.
Speaker 2 (54:51):
Dude, that's the
schedule.
We gotta work better on.
Everyone was like gentlemen'sagreement.
Chris was like I'm gonna go tobed at 1, I'll work the 1 to 3
shift and I'll go to bed now.
And then Tortoise was like I'llwork the 3 to 5 shift and
Tortoise gets up at one and Iget up at three?
Speaker 7 (55:08):
No, I wasn't up at
one, I was up at three.
I set my alarm clock.
I rolled out at three.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
Okay, well, whatever
it was, we were overlapping.
So like we all showed up at thesame time and it was like we
were all just standing arounddoing nothing, Like I'm
squeezing each other's butts, but like it was like, oh guys.
Speaker 7 (55:24):
I've got a favorite
one and this I don't know if
stings Paul or not, I'm going tobring it up Paul's sitting
there working, working sideband,he's, I mean, he's boom, boom,
boom and nothing for like 10, 15minutes.
It went dry.
I said.
I said, all right, dude, I'llsit down and take it.
As soon as I sit down, there'sa pileup.
(55:48):
As soon as I sit down, there'sa pileup.
The first set of contacts, kg 4VET and KJ4ULZ Z, both Vaughn
and Julie, first ones, and I waslike I just gotta be shit me
(56:14):
and I, I I thanked him profusely.
So the other day, uh, juliesent him a picture.
He was wearing the grouch armyt-shirt she goes, I got to make
up for that.
I'm sorry he was wearing thegrouch army t-shirt she goes, I
got to make up for that.
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (56:31):
Well, it's funny.
You said that because, like Itook the mic over from you and
Matt was sitting on the FT8station and I got to a point
where Matt like kind of lookedover me after a while.
He was like because I was just, like I was like singing song,
because the bands were so badbecause whoever I took it from,
like they dried up, like nobodywas making contacts and Matt's
like dude, what's wrong with you?
Like I was like dude.
Speaker 8 (56:55):
I'm just trying to
like, wouldn't the grouch slip
you?
Speaker 1 (57:00):
I'm like I was
surprised he didn't record
surprised he didn't record it.
Speaker 2 (57:04):
but you know it was
like I was surprised he didn't
record it, surprised he didn'trecord it.
But you know it was like oh, Iwas just singing songs.
Speaker 8 (57:08):
When we started, when
I was on the radio, it was like
I couldn't hear crap.
And then everyone decided tostart having conversations like
literally like right outside thetent, inside, and I could
barely hear Right, and then Paulgoes, oh, goes, oh, here,
here's some headphones.
And Eric said I said, should Ibring my headphones?
(57:30):
And he's like, no, no, no, wewant everyone to hear it on the
live stream.
But it was so weak I said, screw it, I'm using the
headphones.
I still couldn't hear anything.
So then he's like oh, it's gotvolume, so I turned.
I still can't hear anything.
And then what really?
As I start hearing someone, timshows up and I'm like, can you
(57:50):
put that on silent?
I'm trying to make a contacthere.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
Yeah, todd, you got
into your zone Like literally, I
couldn't like I don't know whatit was like.
Literally, once one o'clockrolled around and Paul's like
we're in the live stream, it'sgoing live, and he's like he's
gone, he disappeared, and Todd'slike hunkered over the station
and he's just doing his thing.
I'm like dude, where's the fire?
This is just a normal, let'sease into it.
Speaker 7 (58:31):
No, make contact,
damn it.
Hey, I made, I made morning.
Okay, in the morning we'retalking um.
We're like what the hell itsays?
The live stream has ended 20seconds ago.
I'm like, oh god oh my gosh, yeah.
Speaker 8 (58:46):
And I enjoyed
watching Shannon man.
Shannon, you are a machine.
Like you got on that thing.
I wasn't expecting you werelike working those stations Like
there was no tomorrow.
I'm like, I'm like look at hergo.
I was definitely impressed.
Speaker 5 (59:00):
It's the wild power.
Speaker 8 (59:03):
Well, it's the wild
power, but she was managing and
controlling that whole pile up.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
It was like, sir, do
not get out of line.
Speaker 1 (59:10):
I will get to you
when I get to you.
That was.
Sergeant Shannon yeah.
Oh no.
Speaker 2 (59:16):
I see a t-shirt.
Speaker 8 (59:20):
Shannon was.
She was good.
I was like that's, that's whatI like to see.
You know, sergeant Shannon ofthe Grouch Army, she was good, I
was like that's, that's what Ilike to see, you know, you know,
I already have the grouch army.
Speaker 3 (59:28):
I was good to get out
of my head because I was just
going to say I already have thegrouch army shirt.
So me yeah.
Speaker 7 (59:41):
Although like God, oh
no, I was just going to say.
And Adam, soon as we set up atent, we had the table outside
my buddy, adam.
He's in the chat somewhere.
(01:00:08):
He said he had the little.
I can't even remember what itis, it's a little computer, sdr,
the fancy cook thing, I don'tknow Anyway.
So he had Chris there.
He had like like five and sixpeople around him.
He was like holding court, trying to figure out how to get
this thing to work, and hejumped in um on the, uh on the
(01:00:30):
hf, uh on the on the sidebandand he gave it his best.
You know, it was the first timehe sat down in front of a radio
like that, I think, is he?
And he's not a ham, right?
No, but he is studying for thetest, as far as I know.
Speaker 8 (01:00:44):
Yeah, well, he was.
He was really good too, andthen it didn't he get the
antenna.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you gave itto him.
I'm like he's not even a ham.
Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
Todd's still bitter
about that.
Speaker 8 (01:01:00):
Oh I see, no, he was,
he was pretty, he, he was.
No, he was no joke.
And I think one of the I thinkone of the things that I loved
about the whole thing is likewhen mike was doing the
satellite stuff.
You know, I always heard aboutit but I never actually did it.
And then he let me.
I said I've never done it, youwere trying it.
Speaker 4 (01:01:24):
I was trying.
Speaker 2 (01:01:27):
I may do it.
If this doesn't work out, probably I will do it.
I would almost say definitely.
Speaker 8 (01:01:34):
Anyway.
So you know, the first one wego through.
I'm holding the phone he'sshowing me.
I'm like, alright, I get this.
It shows the angle.
I'm like I'm hearing something.
He's like I think I heardsomething too.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
And then I have a
video of you guys.
All of a sudden I was like it'sdark and all the hairs.
Oh, we're almost there.
No, we're outside there, we'renot right there.
Whoa, I heard this one.
Oh, no, no, this one's gone.
I'm like, oh, you're holding itwrong.
It's like literally like youdon't see you guys in the video
because it's so dark.
Speaker 8 (01:02:03):
But when we got that
second pass and all of a sudden
the guy came booming in and youcalled out and I was like holy
shit, we got it.
And then the radio goes black.
I'm like what happened?
What happened?
And you're like the batterydied.
I'm like are you fuckingkidding me?
Yep, you lost Todd very quicklyI was like damn, and then that
(01:02:29):
was it right, nothing else.
the rest of the we tried acouple more times no, yep, that
guy, though I heard that thatguy was as clear as you know
this live stream, I mean, it wasdead on.
I like we've got this guy black.
Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
I have to say, like I
did the morning shift with
Chris and I felt bad because, like Chris, I don't know what
your take is on it, but like 80meters was like barely like
there was a net going on at liketwo 30 in the morning and I'm
like my God, do I have to hearanother check into this?
net and like he, spent the dialdown and nothing.
Nothing.
Then back to the net.
Back to the net.
Well, like, at least we'rehearing something.
And like I'm just like we,literally, I think ft8 like did
(01:03:09):
all the heavy lifting for ourentire weekend because it was
like you know if it wasn't doing, you know if we weren't making
it on sideband ft8.
But like, chris is like ccupola, c cupola yeah, this is
whiskey one live free and hamplease help me, I'm dying here
and he watched the live stream.
(01:03:30):
It was so cold like I had ablanket over my head on top of a
hoodie and like all you see islike this.
Like you know, looks like uh itwas not cold, oh dude it was
three in the morning, it wascold it was cold chris is like
yeah, I'm in my, I'm in my likethick overalls and I'm like,
dude, I'm in a blanket and mysweatshirt and I'm like, and I'm
(01:03:51):
just like, like clicking wsjtxzand leaving it on auto call
because I'm like nothing on 20meters.
I'm like 20 meters is flat, like there's nothing coming in.
And chris is like siku podo, siku podo, siku podo, like, but
it was like everyone's asleep,oh my gosh it was, it was it was
tough it was a light switch.
Somebody just turned off all thebands as like.
(01:04:12):
And chris kind of went to bedlike I don't know when you.
It was like four o'clock, Ithink it's like no, it was like
six.
Speaker 10 (01:04:17):
Was it six?
Yeah, so like the sun wascoming up.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
I can't really like.
Parker came in and parker was Idon't know.
He must have like pounded down, jolt or you know, licked a
sugar salt lick or whatever.
Yeah, he's like back on thereand he's like pounding away.
I'm like, I'm like fallingasleep and I'm constantly, like
you know, leaning forward.
I was like I watched, went backto watch the live stream and I
was like man, I looked horrible, like all you constantly see is
(01:04:40):
this, like head bobbing all thetime because you know I'm not
paying attention to the wholeentire session of 58.
But it was my name at thatpoint.
Speaker 4 (01:04:50):
One thing I wanted to
mention, because I was up with
Chris that you know, the lateshift like around, I was on FTA
like between like one and threeish or so, and and I think this
is helpful for like anyone elsewho might want to try something
like this, don't do that andthis is no.
This is where the random wirereally came in handy, I think,
(01:05:11):
because when you're doing FTA,like I kind of like I was like
wait, leave no band behind, likelet me, like 40 meters was
booming all night on.
Fta but.
I was able to like.
I'm like, all right, let me try160.
And I saw there's one stationand I couldn't get them in the
log and then which blew my mindbecause they were one grid
square away but whatever butthey were on 80 meters at the
(01:05:35):
same time.
So I don't get it, but I workedthem on 80 at least and there
was a handful of stations on 80and I was able to work some of
those.
And then that dries up.
It's like, okay, let's go to 60or let's go to 30, let's work
some on 30, let's go back to 40.
And it was easy with a randomwire to bounce around and you
know, you can get into debatesabout efficiency and radiation
(01:05:57):
patterns and blah, blah, blahand all that nerdy thing
outperformed the hex but thesimplicity of you know, just you
know, and you, when you'redoing weak signal modes like
that, you don't need to worry somuch about having you know
extra gain and all this Like youjust need to be able to get out
there.
And it worked well.
And it was actually kind of funwhen I realized like, oh, let
me just bounce around and keepbouncing around and going from
(01:06:19):
band to band and trying to seeyou know who I can work and who
I can get and stuff and and and.
So I think that was like if Iwas to ever do uh and I don't
think I've ever operated in themiddle of the night like that,
but if I do I'm gonna make surethat I got a random wire that I
can hop around at least betweenlike 80 and 30 at minimum, um,
(01:06:43):
because like 20 was just deadfor hours and and stuff.
And it just made it easy andfun.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
Well, I I think in
the long haul, like in future,
thinking the hex did not.
It suffered big time becausethe I broke the stupid limb and
we won't get into why I did that.
But you know, long story short, you know, even the repair
didn't fully like get it back to.
But the random, why we werefighting over that fricking
random wire.
Because, like Chris was like onthe hex beam and it's just like
(01:07:15):
like ASMR, like dead air, andI'm on like FT eight making
contacts, and then I switchedthe wires and we're like I'm
like I'm on FT8 making contactsand then I switch the wires and
we're like I'm flat, there'snothing in FT8.
Chris is like oh, I got onecontact, oh, I got this one
contact.
I think wires are the way to gonext year for sure, 100%.
Speaker 10 (01:07:36):
I had my NFED still
up in the air.
Speaker 8 (01:07:42):
All I know is when
Mike said you want to try the
random wire, and we're like, isthe coax going to reach?
And he's like and then he putthat on and all the noise went
away and I could hear People.
I was like holy shit, thisthing's awesome.
And then they're like, hey, canwe Use the random?
I'm like hell, no, you're notTaking this on the radio.
(01:08:03):
This is for sideband only Ihate to say that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
Uh, you know, yes,
the random wire had less noise,
but I think that could possiblybecause it was receiving less
signals.
But uh, I am a I am 100% arandom liar heathen wow, those
are some harsh words there, mandamn.
Speaker 7 (01:08:30):
I wore one point
pickup sticks with our butt
cheeks.
Speaker 6 (01:08:33):
I brought.
Speaker 5 (01:08:35):
I brought the
Reliance antennas 80 meter
through 10 and fit half wavethat we could have thrown up,
yeah, and not needed a tuner atall.
Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
We had Matt there,
who makes reliance antennas, we
had all the best antennas in theworld right there.
Speaker 1 (01:08:56):
We had the engineer
there too, and he built a really
awesome random wire.
Speaker 4 (01:09:01):
I was going to say,
matt, what was it that I called
it?
Was it the reliance NFED?
I was going to say, matt, whatwas it that I called it?
Was it the Reliance N-Fed?
Random wire Bug out mark 2.
Mark 2G yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:18):
Dude, that's a
mouthful.
But yes, let's go with it.
Speaker 8 (01:09:23):
Well, I took that
wire Down and you don't realize
how big it is until you'rereally.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
No, we already had
the discussion time you're
making a rat's nest I brought ithome and I'm like pull it apart
, pull it apart really neat foryou.
Speaker 8 (01:09:38):
I was like holy, this
thing is huge.
Whoever stuck it in the truck.
Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
It basically just
like with the bumping and
everything, basically just tiedit, the bumping and everything
basically just tied it all upinto a knot, and so I ended up
having to uncoil it.
But yeah, that's another storyfor another day.
But a lot of wire, it's a lotof wire, it is freaking we
didn't have a wire winder.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
What kind of hands
are you?
Thinking we're not very goodones at that.
Speaker 4 (01:10:02):
You know, I brought a
couple extra ones.
Speaker 8 (01:10:06):
I should have left
dude that thing needed, like one
of those hose, like circularcrank things.
Speaker 4 (01:10:15):
It's a lot of
freaking wire all right, yeah,
we gotta, we gotta get withspulten on that.
Speaker 7 (01:10:20):
Yeah, oh yeah I will
say this matt's antennas uh, the
infant half waves are literallyquieter than what I've played
with so far.
And I told him that and I waslike dude, these things are
quiet and the signal's there.
(01:10:42):
That's expected because, youforget to bring your coax, but
yeah, hey, well, no no, no, asthe story should have went by,
mike is I want.
I came over and I said, hey,did you guys check the coax?
And they're like no, no, andI'm like.
I walked over, got my doublechoked coax and hooked it up in
(01:11:05):
that freaking G90 tune likewithin two seconds.
Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
So, very much so I
mean with good, with good coax,
yeah, yeah, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
Izzo, we appreciate
your.
You know your refined ABR.
You know yellow jacket of coaxwhich is actually kind of over
there coiled nice and neatly.
So yeah for uh delivery soon.
Speaker 5 (01:11:25):
So it's coming all
right, I just saw.
I just saw ham radio duo in thechat and I gotta give a shout
out to them because let me tellyou.
All right.
So my parachute mobile in inhuntsville I had 16 cusos and
said I want to do somethingspecial for the 16 people that
(01:11:49):
were my first parachute mobilecontacts.
So I used their QSL cardservice and everybody has raved
about how awesome the QSL cardsare.
It was really, was reallyinexpensive, it was very
affordable, um, fantasticservice.
So just check out their service.
(01:12:10):
That's all I gotta say.
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
That's such cool shit
yep, I agree the card looked
pretty cool, so, oh, all right.
Well, so anybody else got afond memory they want to throw
in here before we kind of diveinto some of the fundraising
stuff and talk about N3FJP, gateand you know a few other things
.
Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
The rain was fun.
It wasn't bad.
We had fun.
Miles was swimming when his momwas away.
That was great.
He's like can I go out there?
I'm like, yeah, don't go toofar.
Speaker 10 (01:12:43):
Parker and Paul were
out fishing.
Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
Paul caught a fish.
Oh yeah, I got a picture ofthat.
Speaker 5 (01:12:50):
I would have saved
him if he was drowning.
Speaker 2 (01:12:55):
A fish or miles.
Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
I would have saved
miles.
A fish can swim.
Speaker 7 (01:13:04):
And then somebody
told Miles that yeah, if you
keep digging right in this spotyou'll find treasure.
Yeah, he was digging there forlike it must have been at least
a foot and a half, two foot wide, about three foot deep.
The park ranger comes over it.
I said he'll fill all that andhe goes.
Oh, I'm not worried about it.
Speaker 8 (01:13:23):
He's like digging
more.
Speaker 3 (01:13:26):
He is nothing if not
persistent.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
See, he's a perfect
contester.
Then you got to get him in thecontesting circuit.
Speaker 8 (01:13:34):
When I saw him
digging there.
I thought he was trying to diga trench to get all the water
out.
That's how it started.
Oh, is that how it started?
Because that's what I thoughthe was doing.
And then all of a sudden hegoes I haven't found any
treasure yet.
I'm like I go dig by the beachIf you're looking for treasure.
Speaker 3 1,020.
Speaker 7 (01:13:53):
He dug.
He dug me a drainage hole.
This is what he did.
Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
Speaker 0 1,020.
Speaker 3 1,020.
You know it's funny cause, likeAnnie, who's a new club member

pumped.
So you know whatever you saiddid she show up?
Speaker 7 (01:14:43):
where?
Yeah, you were in the trailershe hung out.
Speaker 2 (01:14:47):
She was hanging out
with tortoise the whole entire
time.
Speaker 5 (01:14:50):
She literally left a
comment on on one of my photo
videos.
It was like I don't know how toreach out to you and it was
like come on, she was there andI didn't even get to meet her
plenty of times, man, you mayend up testing her in October.
Speaker 7 (01:15:10):

The last like hour of Saturday.
Speaker 8 (01:16:24):
Hey, paul got his
first Apple product for five
bucks.
Last year Paul got his last one.
Speaker 7 (01:16:34):
You mean that door's
off?
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
We were all blown
away when he like revealed on
the live stream that night it'slike I bought an Apple product.
I'm like what do you want?
Crack cocaine, my friend.
Like what's your?
You've been like, you know.
I'm like what do you?
Speaker 5 (01:16:44):
want Crack cocaine.
My friend, like what's your?
You've been like.
You know I hate Apple productsand the thing was completely
fucking useless because itcouldn't even been fucking used,
because it was too old of anApple product.
Speaker 8 (01:16:55):
I told you to just
put it away.
It's a first generation iPad.
It's probably going to be wortha fortune someday.
Speaker 5 (01:17:04):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure
I threw it out.
Speaker 7 (01:17:07):
I was going to say,
Paul, I'll give you five bucks
for that.
Speaker 2 (01:17:15):
There we go, Finally
get to use it Anyway.
Speaker 5 (01:17:21):
I've got a.
I've got a.
I've got a shit ton of stuffthat, uh, I think tortoise is
going to sell at near fast.
Speaker 7 (01:17:28):
So I've got oh, we

(01:17:51):

Speaker 8 (01:17:53):
Paul, why don't you
put everything you want on that
trailer?
Bring the trailer and say allof this is for sale, including
the trailer Including thetrailer.
Speaker 7 (01:18:02):
That's actually not a
bad idea Make an offer for
everything.
Speaker 5 (01:18:10):
And how am I going to
Tow the trailer behind the RV?
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
I have no problem
towing a trailer.
Speaker 7 (01:18:20):
I got access to a
welder, we can hook you up.
Speaker 2 (01:18:25):
Better yet I'll just
tow it for you.
Simple as that.
It doesn't have a plate on it,it's not registered.
Speaker 5 (01:18:29):
It doesn't even have
plate on it, it's not registered
, it doesn't even have a bin onit.
It's a homemade fucking trailer.
Speaker 8 (01:18:37):
We're going to New
Boston.
Did you see any cops up there?
Speaker 7 (01:18:41):
I got pulled over
when I left because my camper
did not have a tag on it and Isaid, sir, this vehicle is
registered inessee and this is apop-up camper and in tennessee
you do not need a tag on apop-up camper he goes.
Speaker 1 (01:18:56):
How many nights did
you come back?
Speaker 7 (01:18:59):
exit.
Speaker 8 (01:18:59):
Have a nice day he
must have been a rookie.
He must have been.
He must have a crew cut.
He must have been like a rookieright out of the academy no, no
, no, it was a really nice dude,oh my god, he was a nice dude
he's probably like oh my god, Igot someone to pull over, holy
shit.
Speaker 7 (01:19:18):
I saw him go behind.
I stopped at the uh, the littlebodega there, the little store,
and he drove past and I saw himand he went up and parked
waiting for you.
I pulled out and he pulled inright behind me.
He goes.
I noticed you didn't have a tagon your camper.
I'm like I don't need a tag onmy camper.
Thank you very much.
Speaker 10 (01:19:38):
It's the Wombat
Commander guys.
We've lost him soon, in a whileyou know what those things can
do.
Speaker 4 (01:19:43):
Suck the paint off
your house and give your family
Run button.
Speaker 7 (01:19:46):
Family of permanent
orange afro.
Speaker 2 (01:19:48):
Anyway, all right,
well, let's kind of, uh, you
know, touch base on some of thekind of bigger things that
happened over the weekend, because obviously we we we
alluded to we did live streamsomewhere along the line, um,
you know, and and definitely uhhad uh its own fill of problems
and issues, um, which we uh,thank God, overcame, because my
(01:20:13):
grouch was ready to jump off acliff, I think a couple of times
he was like, why does the fuckthis thing not work?
I did this on and on, but weworked through it.
Speaker 8 (01:20:23):
I totally forgot we
were live streaming.
It just never was in my mind.
I forgot half the time too.
We're live streaming, oh, ohokay.
So when that storm came, mymother was watching the live
stream and she Was like freakingout and like, oh my god, she
(01:20:45):
goes.
Did you make it?
Get in cover?
Get in cover, the storms arecoming.
The storms are coming, she goes.
I couldn't see what washappening.
It all went black.
There goes our boy dead, hedied, he got blown away tornado
came dude that would be mostepic.
Speaker 2 (01:21:09):
That would be the
most epic POTA event.
All the you know Tornado rollsthrough, wipes out a whole bunch
of hams.
We will forever be known.
Speaker 8 (01:21:20):
The 24-hour POTA that
never ended.
Speaker 2 (01:21:23):
Yeah, right, exactly,
or ended abruptly.
Speaker 6 (01:21:26):
We have to put the
POTA flags At half-mast.
Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
We might, and then we
all wake up.
We have to put the POTA flagsat half-mast we might.
Speaker 5 (01:21:37):
And then we all wake
up and we see the munchkins from
Munchkinland.
Yes, oh boy, and we'll be likegoddammit, we gotta get to the
Wicked Witch's place to set up aradio.
Speaker 2 (01:21:54):
I told you we gotta
go see the wizard of iso the
wizard of iso the iso wizard hasto be the wizard of iso the man
behind the curtain yeah, verymuch, though, very much so, very
much so.
All right, well, so let's kindof talk a little bit around some
(01:22:15):
of the stuff that we, you know, work through and it was part of
, like, I think, the big chunkof the weekend.
I mean, obviously, if you werepart of the live stream and you
were participating at any onegiven time, you know we
appreciate you definitely beingon it, because it was awesome,
first and foremost if we madecontact with you, and we'll get
into that whole section andcontacts in a bit.
(01:22:35):
But with that, you know, wewere doing a fundraiser for TI.
So you know, kind of one of thethings that you know near and
dear to my heart and one of thethings that we do in our club is
that you know, we want to makesure that you know ham radios
being, you know, displayed andbeing, you know, displayed and
you know, uh, pushed into, youknow, the school so kids can
learn about, you knowelectronics and that type of
(01:22:56):
stuff and ham radio in general, and and so we, you know, as a
club, we put a teacher, localteacher, here, uh in, uh, you
know, state of new hampshire, through you know, ti, and so
with that we were, like, youknow, paul, I and todd were
thinking like, well, what youknow, why don't we just do a
fundraiser for ti as well?
Because I think you know wecould definitely, you know, help
, you know further that along.
And I know, like folks likehr20 and you know, k murder and
(01:23:20):
all those other guys have, youknow, done fundraisers, so why
not?
So you know, paul set it all upand we got going and and I have
to say, like you know, at thevery end of it, like I was blown
away because I think, with allof the donations and for that
full 24 hours, at the very endof it, we ended up raising
(01:23:41):
$1,000 to give to TI.
So I have to say thank you toeverybody.
You guys are totally awesome forputting into the and and being
able to, just, you know, be ableto give ti a thousand dollars
to be able to donate, and and we, we did a lot of stuff.
I mean there's a whole bunch ofstuff going on, so, like, I
mean, we didn't really drivehome the fundraiser stuff, but
(01:24:03):
so you guys, just, you know, took up the mantle and started,
you know, giving uh, you know,as you saw uh along the way, and
so there are a ton of peoplelisted that you know I will
definitely give some credit towhen we put together I'm putting
together a side video, you know, with all of that stuff.
So, you know, keep an eye outfor that.
But yeah, dude, it was.
It was totally awesome to seethat we were able to give a
(01:24:23):
thousand dollars to TI and Isent that off to them earlier
this week.
So that's all done.
So, yeah, it all boils down to,you know, all you guys, the
listeners, the subscribers, everybody sticking out at 2, 30,
3, 30 in the morning donating, like I was sitting with chris
going like, uh, that that was adonation that just came in at 2
(01:24:44):
30 in the morning, like, like,I'm not coherent right now, like
why is someone donating, kindof thing, and so, like it was,
just, it was just mind-blowingto see people, just you know,
giving, like oops I know right,it's like I know right exactly
so yeah it was very, verydonating because it's 2, 30 in
(01:25:08):
the arms of a stranger yeah.
So that was just totally awesomeand just it.
It's a testament to all youguys.
I mean, obviously you guys weredefinitely all part of that
whole process and and uhproviding obviously great
entertainment to those that werewatching at the live stream.
(01:25:28):
But more so, you know, just uhbeing part of that whole
community and I it's funnybecause you go back watching at
the live stream, but more so,you know just uh being part of
that whole community and I it'sfunny because you go back and
watch the live stream videos.
There's a lot of like all of uson our phones and I felt bad,
but at the same time, it's likeall of us just you know helping
out in the chat and just likeyou know, kind of keeping things
going.
I think the one thing we didn'tmention that I wanted to
mention, that I just triggeredin my thought, was we have to
(01:25:49):
tell our stations, we have toput a slash number after our
stations because I can't tellyou how many times I would be
like I'd be on FT eight andChris would be like next to me
and he'd be like, oh, I justspotted myself.
And then I'd spot after it andit would just spot the FT eight
station.
They're like well, who's thesideband on, where's the
sideband on sideband on it?
(01:26:13):
I spot sideband again and thenfta would hit the rbn again and
erase that spot all together.
So it was like I just couldn'tfigure out why I just kept
disappearing off.
Speaker 4 (01:26:16):
I know exactly I got
an idea.
I got an idea okay, and, andlet's see one, two, three.
This is my fifth utica club, sowhere's, where's the tower?
Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
build the tower, show
me the tower.
Speaker 4 (01:26:31):
So what we do next
year because this is gonna
happen again, it will um is wesell the strokes.
We sell the strokes forsponsorship.
So when you spot, when you spot, there's an opportunity.
So maybe, maybe it's you knowum.
You know LFH stroke ICOM or LFHstroke Reliance?
(01:26:58):
No, just kidding.
No, you get the idea.
Speaker 2 (01:27:03):
I prefer Reliance
over ICOM any day.
Speaker 4 (01:27:06):
Two stations, a fixed
amount or something, then it's
like okay, and then every timethat station spots it's, it's
gonna have that in there.
Just that's a good idea.
I like that.
Speaker 2 (01:27:15):
I'm thinking out loud
keep thinking do you want to
see?
Speaker 10 (01:27:19):
my ham radio no yeah
hey, paul, is that a uh
snapback hat that you're wearing?
Speaker 5 (01:27:28):
I know right.
Speaker 10 (01:27:28):
Fuck you, it is.
Oh, he got you.
Oh damn Busted.
Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
Busted.
Speaker 10 (01:27:39):
Sorry, I couldn't
resist that one.
Speaker 5 (01:27:42):
It's the gayest hat
ever, but it's his icon, so Not
gay, it's double gay.
Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
now, at this point.
Speaker 1 (01:27:51):
But I need silence.
I'm going to now, at this point, put on your silence.
I'm going to start punchingdicks.
Speaker 5 (01:27:56):
All right, it's okay,
my penis is okay.
It's okay, my penis is okay.
Speaker 7 (01:28:05):
That's not what she
said.
Superb All right.
Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
So now we get on to
some of the other stuff.
So, yeah, we, we, um, we'regonna have to chalk this up as,
like an, you know, the n3 fgpgate is what I'm gonna call it.
I mean it's we're gonna call it.
What a spade is a spade kind ofthing?
Um, for whatever freakingreason, you know, we struggled
hard with n3 fJP and the jury'sstill out.
(01:28:32):
We're still trying to, you know, recover logs and do data
analysis and working with thevendor to try to, you know,
basically restore from.
You know, backups and you knowall the other IT jargon.
Speaker 5 (01:28:45):
The bottom line is I
did figure out one of our issues
, oh and so, with N3FJP, when wewere setting up the networking.
If you remember, because I hadN3FJP, because that's my logger
right, and so it was on mycomputer and my computer was the
(01:29:07):
hub.
It said Shaq PC, but Shaq PCwas the HP elite desktop before
I built my computer.
Oh and so what we did was wechanged the name of the computer
to match the name of mycomputer as grouch command, but
(01:29:30):
we didn't change the name of theserver to match, and so the
server stayed named as shack pcor vice versa.
However, it worked right.
Um and so when I went to gosave the log, it was like no,
you can't do that, becauseyou're trying to save it as
(01:29:53):
shack pc and grouch command isthe server and you need the
server to save it, right.
So had had we from the startfixed both names, we probably
wouldn't have lost the locks.
Well, we sorted, and so that'spartially my fault.
Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
I will say well, and
so there's a couple of things
that I agree with that statementand what you just, you know,
kind of done your analysis.
But the other part to it was isthat the other pcs knew where
to send the data and so when weopened up the file, the new file
on your PC as the hub computer, that file actually has data in
(01:30:36):
it.
I don't know where the data is,but the file says it's like 80
gigabyte or like not 80 gigabyte, it's like 80 megabyte 80
megabyte.
I should say Sorry, I shouldhave another.
I was like that's a lot ofcontacts, more than 500 contacts
.
I've got to finish this um,yeah, so the utica talking, so
(01:30:58):
sponsored?
yeah, exactly.
Um, so the there is some datasomewhere where it wrote it.
I don't know, because it makesno flipping sense that the
software can function and writeout 500 or 250 contacts for each
of the times that it failed andthen just make them disappear
(01:31:19):
like they've got to be writtensomewhere.
So I've got a couple of laptopsthat I'm digging through to try
to figure out where there mightbe some temporary files and
maybe you know, surgically, youknow, merge them in because it's
Microsoft Access Database.
Speaker 7 (01:31:31):
But hey, eric, I bet
you if you reached out, I bet
you, if you reached out to ScottDavis, he can help you.
I already am.
Speaker 2 (01:31:40):
There's a couple of
suggestions that he has provided
me and that I'm trying, but thething that we're not doing is
having the PCs and Paul's PC allon the same network, you know,
kind of at the same time.
So that's my next step I thinkwe have to do to be able to see
if we can just magically, all ofa sudden they say, oh, I see,
so-and-so, I see the grouchcommand machine and you know the
(01:32:01):
logs magically.
Speaker 8 (01:32:02):
I'm just going to do
an Apollo and two K, that's it.
Speaker 7 (01:32:07):
I had a suggestion
presented to me.
If we use world radio leagueand we all log into the same
account from the differentcomputers which you can do.
Speaker 2 (01:32:22):
You can see the stats
as you go along.
So I am we'll say in a placeright now that I am entertaining
new logging ideas, place rightnow that I am entertaining new
logging ideas, and but I'm alsolooking for someone that's not
todd I or paul, who would bemore than willing to be able to
take ownership of that for nextyear and come up with a rock
solid solution and test the shitout of it.
(01:32:44):
So, no matter what, the onlything that would be the fail
point was the fact that thelaptop battery died.
You know, and you know, forwhatever reason you know,
following mike died.
You know, and you know, forwhatever reason you know,
following Mike's radio, you knowkind of saga it would be.
You know that would be theproblem with one workstation
versus all of the workstations.
Speaker 7 (01:33:02):
So yeah, let's try it
for shits and giggles.
We'll set up an account that isN1LFH and we'll go from there.
Speaker 5 (01:33:15):
Whiskey one, yes, oh
sorry, yeah, whiskey one, the
only, the only cool n1 people isme and eric.
Yep, exactly we.
Speaker 2 (01:33:26):
We kept it that way
on purpose because I'm n3, you
are mike's an N3 and Matt is anN3, you know.
So we're not just cool people, anyway, we're a cool club you
fuckers like to drink whiskey.
Speaker 8 (01:33:44):
It should be whiskey
W for whiskey oh right, we drink
whiskey.
Speaker 2 (01:33:49):
We don't say whiskey
yeah it shouldn't be.
Speaker 8 (01:33:53):
N10G, it should be
whiskey 10.
Oh right, we drink whiskey.
We don't say whiskey.
It shouldn't be.
Speaker 2 (01:33:58):
N one, oh gee, it
should be whiskey One, oh man, I
don't think that would work atall.
And actually interestingsidebar.
I'm going to sidebar really bigtime here.
I found out that the grouchoriginally on the Sesame street
side was originally orange, notgreen.
What Really?
Yeah, yep.
Speaker 5 (01:34:15):
Yes, the original
grouch was orange.
Speaker 2 (01:34:18):
Yep.
He went into a swamp, ended upabsorbing all the swamp algae
and became green.
Speaker 3 (01:34:25):
Wow, that is some
grouch lore.
I did know that he was adifferent color.
Did not know the backstory ofhow he became green.
Speaker 2 (01:34:33):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (01:34:35):
Did you also know
that today is Slimy's birthday?
Speaker 7 (01:34:41):
I did not yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:34:45):
The Grouch sent me an
email letting me know that
today was Slimy's birthday andasked me to sign Slimimy's
birthday card wow, did you oh,of course not I was like scram
leave me alone, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:35:09):
Well, so you know for
those uh, you know, with the
hope that we will hopefully havea contact log, we're working on
it.
Give us time and patience, because you know we're trying to
do our best to be able tohopefully stitch back something
we at least know.
I think grouch you said on uhham radio clubhouse on last
tuesday what was our finalnumber 517.
(01:35:31):
Not bad, we reached our goal517.
Speaker 8 (01:35:38):
Next year we're going
for a kilo.
Speaker 2 (01:35:41):
Bands will be good If
we go later in the month.
Speaker 5 (01:35:45):
the bands will be way
better.
For sure, We'll get some good10-meter action, which would be
phenomenal 10 meters was it was.
Speaker 2 (01:35:53):
You know, it was just
dead air, dead air, dead air.
It was bad listen if we didn'thave to stop for three hours for
a storm also, you know I didscrew things up, yeah, yeah, I
think by the time we stopped wewere only at like 187 at that
point and that was still slowgoing because I figured by like
mid-afternoon we, when I broughtthe barbecue back, that we
(01:36:16):
would be somewhere around 300.
But it was just like I reached.
I looked as I dropped the foodoff.
I was like oh, how manycontacts we have the mic's.
Like oh, we're only 187.
I'm like are you kidding me?
Like what's wrong with you guys?
Are you not doing anything?
He's like no, we are.
Speaker 8 (01:36:31):
That's the problem,
you know, we're fighting over
one antenna well after the stormI was like I was looking for
like where all the radios go.
There's like, and there areparts in different campers, like
half was in our camper, halfwas in paul's camper.
I'm like then there's wireseverywhere and I was like, is
this even wire, even connectedto anything?
Yeah, I'm like, where'd thecomputers go?
Speaker 2 (01:36:55):
Oh, it was a mess.
Storms are killing ham radio.
Yes, that's for sure, man,that's 100%.
Let's figure out how we get ridof storms, so all right.
Well, so let's kind of goaround.
I mean, obviously we alluded towhen we were talking about you
getting together and stuff.
You know, uh, what, um, youknow, you guys mentioned in the
(01:37:16):
beginning some of your memories, but like what do you guys you
know what?
What in what parts did you guysenjoy the most, like I mean, of
the whole, you know, weekend ingeneral?
Speaker 8 (01:37:25):
anybody.
Well, you know what.
You know, what really amused mewas how far people came to do
this right, like, I mean, chris, you drove from what?
Illinois, ohio, ohio, illinois, ohio, it's all the same to me.
You know, matt's frompennsylvania, but you know, bob
(01:37:46):
cop, you know, look at this guy,you know takes, first of all,
we go out to dinner on thursdayand then, you know, I get, you
know, lucky enough to be able todrive him to and from the place
and I said, hey, I gotta go tothe doctor, the eyeglass doctor,
and get my glasses.
And I just had the best timetalking to him about all kinds
(01:38:07):
of stuff, just in the car rides, not alone.
I I mean, not including, youknow, at the thing and like,
this guy flew all the way fromMissouri to come hang out with
us for for a weekend because hewatched the podcast and he liked
it and he just wanted to hangout and do something different
and it was just awesome and andit was a great excuse to get
(01:38:28):
away from misery.
Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
Yeah, it was,
although I Bob is funny because
like literally that morning, thursday, we were going to go
hang out Like Paul, I and Toddwe're going to take him out to
dinner, and we he texted memidday, or actually Wednesday,
when he flew in.
He's just like dude, I didn'tknow you had casinos here in New
Hampshire.
I'm like, yeah, didn't know youhad casinos here in new
hampshire.
I'm like yeah, they're.
(01:38:51):
You know, we have a couple inmanchester, new hampshire, and
so where his hotel was, it wasliterally across the street.
And so he he's like I think I'mgonna go to the casino.
I'm like good for you, man, go.
And so he texts me like threehours later.
He's like dude, I'm buyingdinner for you guys tonight
because I just made like 250bucks and I'm like, okay, sounds
good.
Man, I'm not gonna say yeah, weended up going to dinner.
It was pretty cool.
Yeah, so then he.
Speaker 8 (01:39:13):
Pastey Cousin.
So he rented a car but he wasafraid that he couldn't drive
there because there'd be nospace.
And I said, well, where did youleave the car?
And he goes, it's at the hotel.
But they don't know it's thereBecause he had to recheck into
the hotel for one more night andthen he went.
I think he went to see hisfriend up in Maine or something
(01:39:36):
the next day.
But I'm glad he left the carthere because it was a fun.
Two rides back and I was afraidon the ride back I'm like how
am I going to?
It took me two trips to get allmy shit here.
How am I going to get all myshit back with Bob in the car?
But I did a much better packingon the way back.
(01:39:56):
So, bob, thanks for the ridesand the conversations and the
talk, thanks for going to theeye doctor with me and I hope
you come back next year andthanks for dinner.
Yeah, and thanks for dinner.
It was a good time.
But yeah, I was shocked Abouthow far people came.
I mean it just.
I mean I mean I I felt like Iknew Mike For Cause we've been
(01:40:18):
doing live streams For a coupleyears now, but I never met him
in person.
You know, a guy drives all theway out From Rochester and I
don't those of you who aren'tfrom the northeast that's a
freaking drive, dude.
That's not easy and it's it'snot a fun drive either.
Speaker 1 (01:40:32):
New york no actually
it is a good drive yeah it's not
bad.
Speaker 8 (01:40:36):
Yeah well, the worst
drive is driving like.
At least, at least matt is notfrom like pittsburgh, because if
you've ever driven acrosspennsylvania, that is like death
, like grouch did it, grouch, did it.
He loves pennsylvania, rightgrouch going through those,
going through the mountains, like through the tunnels, like,
like what the hell?
Speaker 4 (01:40:56):
another one right,
yeah, and it seems like it just
takes forever new york is justas long as pennsylvania yeah,
and I know exactly how you feel, chris, because, like, and I
didn't have to drive as faracross new York as you did, but
I got a couple of really goodfriends down in Richmond and
anytime I go down to Virginia orDC, like Pennsylvania, like
(01:41:18):
going through Pennsylvania, it'sjust like, oh my gosh, even if
you're on the highway the wholetime, yeah, it's just like this
is taking forever.
When will I be out of thisstate?
Come on, let's go.
Speaker 6 (01:41:32):
Taking 90, it's like
it takes forever to get to
Buffalo, but you're not even allthe way through New York yet
yep takes a right turn.
Speaker 7 (01:41:40):
It's like oh, my god,
oh, and 90 is so terrible all
the tolls all the $15 and somechange one way All the $15 and
some change.
Speaker 5 (01:41:59):
One way.
Yeah, add two extra axles tothat, right, oh yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:42:07):
You're done.
Don't worry about paying it.
We'll mail it to you, whatever.
Speaker 5 (01:42:12):
Oh yeah, no, if I
have to go through New York
towing the RV, I try so hard toavoid the major tolls because
it'll go from $120 in tolls to$200 plus in tolls because of
the extra two axles that I'mtowing behind me.
(01:42:33):
It's freaking ridiculous.
New York's definitely got theirhands in my pockets, yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:42:43):
They got more than
their hands in your pockets.
Speaker 6 (01:42:50):
I did not come down
here just to get jerked off.
Oh.
Speaker 5 (01:42:54):
Jesus, I would have
liked to get jerked off, at
least the retail.
That would have at least madeit feel worthwhile.
Sorry, shannon.
Speaker 7 (01:43:10):
Hey Paul, what is it?
20 bucks is 20 bucks?
Speaker 5 (01:43:14):
Yep three bucks is 20
bucks.
Speaker 10 (01:43:20):
Okay that's the
point, mr.
Speaker 3 (01:43:21):
Bergen, do you have a
massive erection?
Speaker 1 (01:43:24):
Really Poor, shannon.
Speaker 2 (01:43:31):
More water.
It'll balance us out Anyway, all right.
Speaker 5 (01:43:35):
For the record,
shannon and any other females
that are watching right, listen,it is all in good fun.
We mean nothing by it, it's,it's, it's all humor.
Speaker 1 (01:43:47):
All right, you're a
nice gentleman at the 24 hour
pod.
Speaker 8 (01:43:52):
When he was, when he
was visible, anyways not in the
grouch command, except exceptduring the net, except during
the net did we talk about thenet, yet don't ever take net
control from grouch.
Speaker 1 (01:44:07):
That's yeah, like
seriously, yeah, yeah, do we
want to?
Talk about the ground I thinkyeah Like seriously.
Speaker 2 (01:44:11):
Yeah, yeah, do we
want to talk about the graph?
Speaker 8 (01:44:16):
I think Mike said to
me he goes.
What do you think we should do?
I'm like I think we should givehim some whiskey.
Speaker 1 (01:44:23):
Yeah, he needs that
and fire and fuel the fire.
Speaker 5 (01:44:29):
We, we, we gotta, we
gotta talk about net, because,
yes, the net was a big thing,All right.
So listen, okay, I'm the typeof person where if I say I'm
going to do something, then I'mgoing to do it.
And I had made sure I hadtested our equipment ahead of
(01:44:49):
time.
Everything was functioningproperly.
I had tested our equipmentahead of time, everything was
functioning properly.
I had even talked to Tom AC1Jon the Club Repeater and he was
like, yeah, we're going to makesome changes, blah, blah, blah,
blah, blah, it's going to makeit better.
I was like, great, because it'sworking perfectly right now.
So that means I know I've gotthe net.
(01:45:13):
And then we were dealing withsome live stream issues and I
looked at the clock and I said,oh shit, it's 7.01.
I need to go and fucking get atthe radio so that I can run the
net.
And so I was at the radio at7.02 and somebody else was at
the radio At 7.02 and somebodyelse Was running the net.
(01:45:35):
And even though I jumped in andI said, hey, I'm here, I'm
ready to do it, for some reasonI just I wasn't heard.
Propagation.
Speaker 2 (01:45:49):
Everybody else was
how it happened to be wasn't
heard.
Speaker 5 (01:45:52):
Propagation.
Everybody else was how ithappened to be, how it happened
to be, that just I wasn't heard,I don't know.
But yes, so I got a littlefired up, I got a little hot
under the collar and I said somethings.
Not that I regret anything thatI said, because everything I
said was 100% factual.
(01:46:13):
The net does not need to startexactly at 1900 hours.
If people need to wait evenfive minutes, that's okay.
People can wait five fuckingminutes, it's okay 80 meter ramp
.
Speaker 1 (01:46:32):
You sounded like
Dirty.
Speaker 8 (01:46:33):
Harry, just then.
People can wait five fuckingminutes.
It's okay.
80 meter ramp, you sounded likeDirty Harry just then.
Speaker 5 (01:46:37):
So in the future, if
the grouch says he's going to
run a net, just wait, because Iguarantee you the grouch will be
on the net to go.
Good evening Granite StateAmateur Radio Association.
Should be on the net to go.
Good evening granite stateamateur radio association.
Speaker 1 (01:46:55):
This is n1og with
your nightly net you're gonna
run the net for near fest, right, yeah?
Speaker 8 (01:47:05):
dude, last near fest,
that was the best net.
I think that was awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:47:09):
That was an awesome
one yeah, go back to the live
stream on live free and ham fornear fest and you will get to
the 7.200 flavor of grouchlisten.
Speaker 5 (01:47:24):
I gotta say that I am
the chuck norris of 7200,
because when I get on 7200 thelids clear space for me they
think he's a righteous dude,alright well, I don't know where
(01:47:44):
to go from there and alsowinter field day, although I
will say Winterfield day.
Speaker 3 (01:47:53):
I was absolutely Shit
cocked and it was a ton of fun,
I think.
Speaker 5 (01:47:58):
It was a four hour
fucking live stream.
Yeah, that was brutal.
Speaker 2 (01:48:07):
I stayed up for all
Four hours of it.
Hey goodnight Paul.
Goodnight Paul.
Sorry, paul, stayed up for allfour hours of it, all right,
good night paul.
Hey, good night, sorry paul.
All right, well, so this, Iguess this is probably best
segue to go into at this point.
You know what?
Um, I guess I'm sure, because Iknow once we finally got back
to our homes and you know kindof gathered our thoughts, you
(01:48:31):
know what could we have donedifferently, what could we have
done better.
You know anybody got anysuggestions or you know anything
like that we're gonna start itearlier like how earlier, like
10 10 yeah, some of those
Speaker 8 (01:48:47):
guys had to leave
early, unfortunately yeah, I
think that sounds like a goodidea.
Yeah, Because we were like allsitting around like, well, what
do we do now?
We're all ready to go and we'rejust waiting, and waiting, and
waiting.
So I think doing it I mean itdoesn't have to be 10, maybe 11.
But you know, people after 24hours want to get home and
people driving far just want toget out of there earlier than
(01:49:09):
later.
I felt both driving far justwant to get out of there earlier
than later.
I felt really guilty when I gothome because I didn't have a
lot to unpack and I wasexhausted and just kept thinking
of all.
You guys are still probablydriving as I'm sitting on my
dropping trailers off.
Yeah, yeah, dropping trailersoff.
I'm like, wow, I'm like.
And then I see eric, well, I'mstill unloading, the stuff's
(01:49:30):
still in my truck.
Speaker 2 (01:49:34):
I literally got home
and like said, screw it, I'm
only bringing like the stuffthat I know that's going to
spoil into the house.
Everything else is just sittingin a truck for at least 24
hours.
Speaker 5 (01:49:45):
What I didn't
understand right, it was when we
were leaving.
Okay, all right, eric leftbefore I did, and then Todd and
Bob were following me andsomehow my electronic brake had
come unplugged and so I was justlike smoking the fucking brakes
(01:50:05):
on my trailer.
So I stopped and I fixed itbefore I left the park.
And then I left the park and Iget going down the road and I
look, I look in the camera andlo and behold who's behind me,
but Eric noise, and I was likehow the fuck did Eric get behind
(01:50:26):
me?
He left before I did.
Speaker 2 (01:50:30):
When I left, I went
back up to the lodge to do a
final checkout and a bunch ofother stuff as well as, uh, drop
off a few things that they werelooking for.
So I you know, by the time Ileft I figured like, oh, I'd
still be ahead of you guys.
But then, like I'm followinggrouch and I'm like I'm smelling
brake dust like I can't figureout, apparently, because, like I
(01:50:52):
, like I, I forgot to turn mybrake controller on when I
picked the trailer up the firsttime and I'm going through dairy
and the hills and dairy arelike deep slopes and I'm like I
have to.
Like I'm watching the GPS andJeep is like, oh, take a hard
right.
And I'm like, oh, crap.
And I'm like on the brakes andthe trailer's pushing me forward
and I'm like, oh, maybe Ishould turn the brakes and the
trailer's pushing me forward andI'm like, oh, maybe I should
(01:51:13):
turn the trailer, the trailerbrakes on, that might help.
And so once I did that, I waslike, okay, cool, I can stop
gripping, like gripping the topof the steering wheel there and
bending it.
But yeah, it was.
Uh, you know, a little lessonto learn on the way there, for
sure, but uh, I might need newbrakes after visiting you guys.
I was coming down the hill and Iwas breaking all right, and I
think I was like a quarter ofthe way down all of a sudden oh
(01:51:39):
no, you were down to metalsparks your light and your
wheels are lighting up yeah, yeah, for sure it I haven't told
in a while for sure that thatstuff like and uh stuff, can
scare the crap out of you Aftera while.
Speaker 8 (01:51:54):
Chris, did you go out
like through Vermont, like
through to Brattleboro and stuff?
Yeah, those freaking hills suck, they're scary, like they are.
We have a placement Out therewhere the girls go and, like I
refuse, I get them out of therebefore winter because I'm like I
am not driving over thosefreaking hills during the snow.
(01:52:14):
I couldn't even imagine those.
Speaker 6 (01:52:16):
Yeah, they have and
they even have like yeah, they
have those truck.
Speaker 8 (01:52:19):
I've seen trucks run
off into those things because
it's so, freaking, steep therunaway dude, I'll tell you
though.
Speaker 5 (01:52:28):
so, uh, brickicker
had to have gone over Hogback
Mountain.
Hogback, hogback is fuckingbeautiful.
Speaker 6 (01:52:38):
Oh yeah, it is, we
stopped.
I got some cheese.
Speaker 8 (01:52:45):
What are you doing,
Hermione?
You get some cheese.
Speaker 5 (01:52:49):
Did you stop at the
Mannequin?
Speaker 6 (01:52:54):
I stopped at the one
on the, the bottom, the bottom
side.
Speaker 5 (01:52:57):
Uh, there's a
restaurant yeah so after, after
you come through hogback right,uh, on the left hand side is
manacant and that is the coolestlittle bar pub.
It's in New York.
(01:53:17):
New York is almost as bad asMassachusetts, but it's in New
York, but it's the coolestlittle stop.
So if you're ever in HoosickFalls, new York yeah, absolutely
100%, stop at the Manicat.
Speaker 6 (01:53:33):
I remember leading
over to Ian and I was like hey,
is someone sick, hoosick,hoosick.
Speaker 4 (01:53:43):
Exactly, I gotta say
I called out on 5-2 a lot On
those hills getting up high.
I called out on 5-2 a lot onthose hills getting up high.
I called up on 5-2 a lot andthe only contacts I made on 5-2
were on the thruway in New York.
That's horrible.
I was so excited.
(01:54:05):
I'm like I'm calling out.
I'm calling out now Nothing,nothing.
Speaker 7 (01:54:10):
There's a couple guys
that listen to five, two, uh,
through albany and schenectadyon 90.
Speaker 6 (01:54:15):
Yeah, they're always
there every time I go through I
I throw my call out, they'relike hey, mike, what are you
doing?
Speaker 4 (01:54:22):
yeah, I I can't
remember why I I heard them.
I I heard a a long cue so for abit I didn't, I didn't jump in
on it, but um, but I I did hearthem and uh, there's definitely
same thing out by buffalo too.
There's a lot of activitysimplex on five, two there, but
uh, I was all excited.
Yeah, anytime I get up high onsome of those mountains and
(01:54:42):
stuff going through I was likeyes, I'm gonna call it's
disappointing because you get upto there.
Speaker 2 (01:54:47):
You're like five, two
call and cqc.
You know no one's answered atall yep, dead, dead air.
I used to try a drive all theway out to albany and you know,
for clients and stuff, yeah, always painful, yeah, then it
went all-star okay.
Speaker 4 (01:55:02):
So, uh, yeah, anybody
else suggestion, yeah, is, is
antenna, antenna, antenna.
So, um, the, the hack, thebuddy hacks, and I think that
maybe, maybe it's a nice daytimeantenna but, like, for whatever
station that's like hooked upto and I think it's, it gets to
(01:55:23):
be directional.
So then, then you got to worryabout, you know, swinging the
beam around or paying attentionwhere you're pointing that thing
.
But uh, um, I do think, like, obviously, in a perfect world,
like if you put up a dxcommander or something like that
, that's omnidirectional, it'sgonna have nice low takeoff
angles, um, that's sweet.
But the fact that we did nothave, and then we only had one
(01:55:50):
station that could go above 30meters in the evening was not
good.
And I remember Grouch and Italking for a little bit about
switching the random wire overto the digital station, which we
did, and then the, the voicestation on the, on the buddy
(01:56:11):
hacks, because, and aiming ittowards europe and hopefully,
you know, and you know, themiddle of the night, 20 meters
will start, 20 meters will startto open up.
But, like it, it was a struggleand uh, and and so I think, um,
you know, and you can still usethe buddy hacks, but if you're
going to do that, then you dosomething even as simple as just
(01:56:33):
put up like a quarter wavevertical on 40 meters, because
40 meters was banging throughoutthe entire night on on fta and
if you can get below 7.2 you'regoing to get some of the dx into
europe and stuff, um, andthat's just as simple as like a
33 foot wire on a mast and ifyou just got to hit the antenna
switch after dark and switch itover.
(01:56:56):
But you know that said, youcould accomplish the same things
with you know An NFED halfwayfor, you know 80 through 10 or
something that you switch overto on a voice station, and so
yeah, I would agree 100 mike.
Speaker 2 (01:57:14):
I think, yeah,
definitely the hex did not
perform well.
I I'm not that the hex is not agreat, a decent and good
antenna.
It's not a great antennabecause my experience with it
has always been just exactlylike you described.
Once you get into the nighthours, you end up losing the 40
and 80 and all the other things.
I would be better served twothings One, obviously, what you
(01:57:35):
had said with the wire antennas, but I think we should think
about a log antenna too, justfor receiving on both radios and
basically being able to pick upthose weak stations.
We had plenty of space to do alog in many areas and not have
any problems.
So that might be something wewant to think about, maybe next
year.
Why not just do a log in?
You know many areas and nothave any problems?
Um, you know.
So that might be something wewant to think about, maybe next
year why not just do a deltaloop at that point?
(01:57:57):
yeah, delta loops are great.
You could do that.
Speaker 7 (01:57:59):
Yeah, parking area,
parking and camping area,
someplace a little bit likecul-de-sac instead of uh, where
we can put everything around orsomething a little bit not so
restricted, because I mean thatgrass would have been great if
it wasn't two and a half feetbelow grade of the road.
(01:58:20):
That would have been great.
Or maybe say hey, before wecome up, can you guys grade that
parking area?
Speaker 1 (01:58:30):
Man, they're not
going to do that.
I know.
Are we going to the same spot?
Are we thinking of another park?
Speaker 2 (01:58:37):
well, todd mentioned
that he was gonna do a little
recon yeah, I'm gonna oh, no, no, no, no.
Stay away from bear brook.
Bear brook sucks.
Speaker 5 (01:58:51):
Bearbrook doesn't
suck.
Speaker 2 (01:58:53):
It sucks, dude.
They gave us shit when we wentthere for our freaking weekend,
for support parks weekend, andthe Rangers were assholes.
Speaker 5 (01:59:02):
Really, yeah, the
Rangers, the Rangers didn't
understand what the fuck we weredoing.
Speaker 2 (01:59:09):
It doesn't matter,
they didn't have to be jerks
about it.
That's what I ran into lasttime.
Yeah, fuck we were doing.
Speaker 10 (01:59:12):
It doesn't matter,
they didn't have to be jerks
about it.
I agree, it's like MilesCornish down here.
That's what I ran into lasttime.
Speaker 5 (01:59:18):
They just they didn't
understand what we were doing.
So like, alright, so supportyour parks.
Weekend.
Last fall, that's when we wentto Bear Brook the Rangers came
to my fucking campsite and theywere like, dude, you had your
radio going way too early in themorning and it was bothering
(01:59:40):
people.
And I was like, no, that wasn'tfucking me, because I was so
fast asleep.
Like, leave me the fuck alone.
Like, but yeah, no.
So the Rangers just didn't knowwhat we were doing, and on top
of that we also had all thefucking mass holes that had come
up and they were partying.
(02:00:01):
They were partying all fuckingnight long, making a shit ton of
fucking noise until two in themorning, while the rest of us
were trying to sleep.
Speaker 2 (02:00:12):
Don't make me hit the
button.
Speaker 5 (02:00:16):
Dude, go ahead, hit
the fucking button.
Speaker 1 (02:00:19):
Turn down the volume,
Shannon.
Speaker 5 (02:00:22):
Fuck those assholes.
Speaker 2 (02:00:24):
No, I agree.
But the other problem with BearBrook, at least in terms of the
campsite, campers are on theopposite side of the park, so if
people brought RVs theywouldn't be able to be in the
same area as the camp tent folks.
So that's a drawback in my mind.
But, todd, you said thatthere's a couple other sites at
Greenfield that are a littleabove the elevation where we
(02:00:46):
were at.
Speaker 8 (02:00:48):
Yeah.
So there's other parts of thepark, just not right by the lake
and it doesn't have theelectricity, but there's fields
where we could park.
That's higher up, so like if itrained we wouldn't be like in
the swamp.
I mean, when I called Alec inApril we were going through like
all that rain and that wholeparking lot and beach was
(02:01:11):
underwater.
He says you couldn't even getto it.
So he says don't worry, I haveother spots.
I just haven't seen those spots.
So I'm going to go back outthere, I'm going to activate the
park, I'm going to cruisearound and see if I can find,
take some pictures of a betterspot that would suit us, maybe
away from Transformers.
But we might lose the access tobeing right next to the beach
(02:01:34):
and the real power from abuilding.
I don't know how closebathrooms would be.
Speaker 6 (02:01:42):
There were group
campsites on the way to the back
.
Yeah, they were kind of fiveyears from the bathrooms.
Speaker 8 (02:01:50):
Yeah, what about know
state park?
That was the name of it, eric.
We were talking the other day, pluff, which one remember, with
the dam we were talking.
Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
Yeah, okay, that was
the problem with that one is
that's like in a hole, like thebiggest problem with that one is
all like surrounded by granite,so it's worse than where we
were in terms of signals, because i've've tried, we tried
to activate there.
10 meters is great, but like wehad struggled with 20 and we
were having a problem, you knowactive further North, like
Franconia or something.
Speaker 7 (02:02:23):
Oh, you want to go
way up North, wow, um, I'm just
throwing ideas out there, man.
Yeah, I mean, I mean Conway.
Speaker 8 (02:02:31):
Speaker 3 1,.
But look at where peoplealready came from.
You want to.
They want to drive the Conway.
Like you can't get there fromhere, It'd be like another two
hours and there's no easyexactly.
Speaker 2 (02:02:46):
Yep, conway is a hall
.
But yeah, I mean Greenfieldwasn't bad.
I mean the location could havebeen, you know, because of the
rain could have been better.
But if, like Todd, says there'sbetter sites in Greenfield,
then I wouldn't be, you know, interested in checking it out.
So I mean something todefinitely consider.
Speaker 4 (02:03:06):
Actually I got a
question for Chris, Thinking
about our location and the powerlines and everything.
Chris, when you had the NFEDhalf-wave up, how was the
reception on that?
Were you getting a lot of noisefrom the power lines or the
transformer, especially like on4E or so I?
Speaker 6 (02:03:25):
was getting a little.
I wasn't.
I feel like the power lineswere kind of shielding me from
all the other antennas on theother side.
Speaker 4 (02:03:36):
What about the other,
Chris?
Because you guys had one set uptoo.
Speaker 10 (02:03:41):
Yeah, we did have
some noise coming through, so.
I didn't know yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:03:46):
Random wire didn't
pick that up weird.
Speaker 8 (02:03:49):
Yeah, I think I think
too one of the things.
At least when I was on startingon sideband, everyone, like at
the 24 hours, started to get ontheir own antennas and it just
was like.
I was like what the frick'sgoing on here?
And I'm like turn all that shitdown, take it down, yeah, he
was 80, dude, yeah, I was likeand what?
Speaker 5 (02:04:09):
and what did the
grouch do?
The grouch went around and toldeverybody shut the fucking shit
off.
Speaker 10 (02:04:17):
Mine wasn't going at
all.
Speaker 8 (02:04:21):
Before the storms
yeah, so I think when we get the
antenna set up, when we get theantenna plan and the radio plan
set up, that's just what we useand put up, go ahead.
Speaker 7 (02:04:37):
I've got an antenna
suggestion.
I've talked to Matt about it.
Who's over here?
And I talked to Matt about itLast minute.
No, no, no, this was before.
This was even before the event, like two days before.
Okay, so no, this was before.
Speaker 1 (02:04:52):
This was even before
the event Like two days before.
Speaker 7 (02:04:55):
Okay, what was the
idea then?
Speaker 1 (02:04:58):
It was with the
multiple wires for a dipole.
Speaker 7 (02:05:01):
Yeah Well, basically
making an MVIS so we could get
the local people, you know, justbuild a really quick and dirty
MVIS.
And I told him how to do it andI said this would be a really
good thought process.
We just never did it.
But put an NVIS up.
You only have to go 15 feet tothe peak and run them out at 45s
(02:05:25):
, 90 degrees away from eachother and you got an NVIS
antenna and it would workperfect off a 901.
Do you want to try to work withpeople that?
Speaker 4 (02:05:35):
don't monitor 5.2?
.
Speaker 7 (02:05:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:05:39):
CQ 5.2, cq, 5.2, cq,
5.2.
Oh, we got AF1T, okay.
Anybody else?
Oh, no, only AF1T.
Okay.
Anybody else?
Oh, no, Only AF1T Okay.
Speaker 7 (02:05:56):
So yeah, just like
you know, just like for grins
and giggles while we're on thelive stream.
Hey, any local hams in the NewEngland area?
That can't get us, let's try toget them.
Speaker 8 (02:06:09):
I wonder if we could
get Pac-Madad-Nuk special
permission to drive up there.
Activate at the top.
Speaker 10 (02:06:17):
Yeah, they won't
Taking a trailer up, that would
be sketchy as hell.
That would be yeah, exactly.
Speaker 1 (02:06:24):
Record that watch a
video of that.
Speaker 8 (02:06:26):
It's paved and it's
not that steep, you'll know.
Speaker 2 (02:06:32):
With a trailer
pulling a 30 foot trailer.
Yeah, dude, that would be alittle.
Speaker 6 (02:06:37):
We could do all 10.
Speaker 5 (02:06:39):
I'd be willing to bet
I could get my fucking trailer
To the top pack.
Oh dude.
Speaker 2 (02:06:46):
But you bringing it
down.
Speaker 7 (02:06:48):
Wait.
Speaker 8 (02:06:50):
I got an idea.
Then If we talk to the rangerthere, we set up the station at
the top and I bring my ranger,my Polaris ranger, and we just
use that as a shuttle up anddown.
It might work because, dude, that park up there, you get
(02:07:11):
awesome, there's no noise, it'sgreat.
Speaker 2 (02:07:13):
Yeah, but they don't
have.
Like.
You can't camp overnight there,though.
Speaker 8 (02:07:17):
But you might be able
to get special permission if we
say we're doing this thing.
What about Temple Mountain?
Speaker 2 (02:07:23):
across the street you
can't park it.
That's a day use only.
Is it day use only?
All right yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:07:29):
Well, I mean like if
what Todd's saying you know,
using a vehicle as a shuttle,it's like you camp somewhere
else and just bring the station.
Oh, I guess if you're trying todo 24 hours, that's not going
to work.
Speaker 7 (02:07:40):
Yeah, it's not going
to work.
Right, you know, my trailer isoff road and it's small enough
we could pull that up there.
Speaker 2 (02:07:48):
We can all sleep with
you.
Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 1 (02:07:53):
Oh, yeah, one in
Wombat.
Speaker 7 (02:07:55):
Yeah, we're just
sleeping shifts.
Speaker 2 (02:07:58):
Dude to be honest, if
you've ever been up to Pack
Pack's parking lot is not big.
Speaker 5 (02:08:03):
Do we get a GP medium
?
Speaker 7 (02:08:06):
There, you go Right.
We'll just put a.
Speaker 5 (02:08:09):
GP medium up at the
top of Pack and we'll set up
there.
We'll just put a GP medium Upat the top a pack and we'll set
up there.
We'll leave all the fuckingcampers and everything In the
parking lot and we'll have a GPmedium up at the top.
Speaker 2 (02:08:22):
That could work.
Let's just do remote, let'sjust put all the radios up there
and we'll remote down at thebottom.
Let's complicate this reallybig time, we'll just put a flex
on the top.
Speaker 9 (02:08:35):
Yeah, flex it.
It's you and I Put a microwaveblank in between.
How many feet?
Speaker 8 (02:08:46):
of coax do we need?
Speaker 5 (02:08:48):
Mike, do you have a
dish?
I do not.
Me, mike, you got.
You have a dish?
I do not Me.
Mike, you got to get a dish.
We'll do a dish up at the topof pack.
Speaker 7 (02:09:02):
Dude, I've got
microwave at work.
I just asked my boss.
I said, hey, can we use themicrowave links?
Speaker 1 (02:09:08):
Yeah, we'll borrow
for the weekend.
Speaker 2 (02:09:10):
Yes, this is getting
really bad fast.
I'm going to play with RFR.
Let's get into reality now, nowthat we've hamgenuity'd this
thing to death, and like reallyRFR to find out.
Speaker 1 (02:09:22):
Yeah, Mike.
Speaker 8 (02:09:25):
Now, eric, here's the
other thing.
Why don't we go to the beach?
No one's there, fuck the beach,no one's there.
They do camping during thesummer.
We could probably getpermission.
We can get Salty Walt to comeup here he's the expert and we'd
be perfect.
Propagation on all the saltwater, what like?
Speaker 2 (02:09:48):
Ordeon Ordeon might
be a place, although Ordeon
doesn't do all the camping wheredo they do the camping near
Salisbury, just on the otherside?
That's in a place Grouch willnever cross over and you know.
Speaker 8 (02:10:03):
No, no, no, no the
one that we did.
It was Hampton.
It was like South Hampton Beachor something.
It had the yeah, they campedthere.
That's Hampton.
It was like South Hampton Beachor something.
Speaker 2 (02:10:13):
It had the.
What one was that they campedthere?
That's Hampton Beach Park.
Speaker 10 (02:10:19):
North Hampton State
Park, no no.
Speaker 2 (02:10:23):
It's.
Speaker 8 (02:10:23):
Hampton Beach State
Park.
Hampton Beach State Park.
They camped there in the summerWith campers, so they probably
have hookups.
What do you mean?
Not that great?
I'll camp at Hampton.
Speaker 2 (02:10:35):
That would be a
perfect place, right on the
beach it would be, although like, yeah, let's look into it.
My only fear is I know mymother-in-law's camp there and
they have like months of likepre-reservations because it's
such a popular place, but noone's going to be there in
October and September, theystill are.
Speaker 8 (02:10:56):
Seriously, I'm going
there next Wednesday, I
guarantee you.
Speaker 5 (02:11:01):
If anybody's
interested, I have an ocean boat
for sale.
Speaker 1 (02:11:09):
That's my mobile,
just saying I'll take that with
you to Florida.
Speaker 6 (02:11:11):
I need a squirrel
clip just saying I'll take that
with you to Florida.
Speaker 5 (02:11:15):
I need a squirrel
clip dude, I can't tow the ocean
boat behind the fucking RV.
Speaker 6 (02:11:22):
I see people doing
dumb shit like that all the time
.
What are you talking about?
Speaker 1 (02:11:25):
that's a long caravan
.
I'm not those people.
We'll let Grouch make it.
That'll be the episode goodyoutube for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:11:36):
Just put it on the
roof all right, so so, so
circling back to the idea ofreality, anything else that we
could have done better.
The food was awesome.
Food was great.
Speaker 6 (02:11:51):
Food was great.
Speaker 5 (02:11:55):
We could have swapped
out one of the DX10s for an
Icom 7300.
We will.
Speaker 2 (02:12:01):
We will just appease
you, that's fine.
Speaker 6 (02:12:03):
We can definitely put
a G90 in there.
Speaker 7 (02:12:07):
The cookout Sunday
morning was on point, I'm just
going to say the cookout Sundaymorning was on point.
I'm just going to say thecookout Sunday morning was on
point.
Speaker 2 (02:12:14):
That was literally
the grouch cooking version of
you know, let's throw everythingon the grill and get rid of it
fast, Yep.
Hey, did anybody bitch?
About it.
It was us.
Did anybody bitch?
No, nobody bitched, and Ididn't have any digestive issues
either, so good job.
I made it to Pennsylvania.
Speaker 8 (02:12:39):
Mike's quiet over
there.
Yeah, not a good trip to NewYork.
Speaker 4 (02:12:45):
No, it was good.
The food was great.
Like the barbecue was good.
I know that you know, like theboys down South they'll give you
know was good.
I know that you know, like theboys down south, they'll give if
you know, holy hell to you knowanything barbecue related up in
the northeast.
But like the food was good and,uh, you know, even coming from
new york, the pizza was fine, like you know it's until the
(02:13:08):
storm came and it was sitting inlike fog.
Speaker 10 (02:13:11):
Oh, I got the soggy
pizza yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:13:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:13:15):
But the pizza did go
south in a hurry with the storm.
Speaker 8 (02:13:19):
Oh yeah, I literally
took the pizza.
I took the pizza boxes and, like I've never like rolled the
pizza box, but I rolled it.
Speaker 7 (02:13:29):
That's disgusting
yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:13:31):
Yeah, that's
understandable.
So, yeah, yeah, it'sunderstandable.
So it sounds like catering is abig thing next year too as well
.
It made it easier, obviously, for all of us.
It does, it does.
Speaker 1 (02:13:39):
Yeah, but we did miss
you, eric, when you had to go
get it.
Speaker 2 (02:13:43):
Yeah, well, I was
just trying to save a little
cash because they didn't want todrive all the way out to
Greenfield.
Speaker 8 (02:13:52):
But there's a.
There's a barbecue place likeright on 101 in down the road
from my house.
Why did we have to get it wayout in dairy?
Speaker 2 (02:13:56):
because they wanted
over 2200 for 12 20 people what
holy shit right exactly screwthat smokehouse smokehouse is my
first choice.
They they basically said no, wewon't do any parties less than
$25, and it's minimum $2,200.
Speaker 4 (02:14:16):
Is he charging you by
the?
Speaker 2 (02:14:17):
axle, I don't know.
I was like, and then I hadanother caterer that I did you
know that's good friends offamily and stuff like that and
he gave me the friends andfamily discount but it was still
$1,500.
And then I was like, okay, okay.
So I found this place over indairy and dairy.
You know, they basically camein way way better for what we
(02:14:39):
got.
So I was happy.
Yeah, it was good food yeah weshould have had.
We should have had a door dashedso I can't tell you how many
phone calls I got from peopleLike I'm already at the bottom
of the hill, where are you guys?
(02:14:59):
I'm like round the corner, likewhat corner?
I'm like go around the sign andcontinue down like over in the
far, like because we were so fartucked back that Mike and
everyone was like dude, whereare you?
And I'm like just keep going, you'll eventually, yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:15:16):
I meanris is the same
way.
So we need to make, we need tohave signs, signage at least
with the once you get to thepark, like 24 hour you get to
the beach and like there's thisdrive.
Speaker 6 (02:15:22):
That kind of like
looks like a driveway and it's
like do I go down that way?
Speaker 7 (02:15:26):
well, the, the lady
who was up at the, up at the
whatever it is the office there.
She's like oh yeah, you go allthe way up to the gate if you
cross her arrow tracks.
You went too far, take a rightfall that around and it brings
you right to him.
Speaker 6 (02:15:48):
I arrived at 530 in
the morning yeah, nobody was
there.
Speaker 8 (02:15:57):
I'm like who's this
dude just walking around
aimlessly?
Speaker 6 (02:16:01):
I was calling the
calling frequency you guys had
the repeater inputs and outputsare backwards were they?
Speaker 2 (02:16:10):
I didn't think they
were, they were on target.
I think from a radio standpointwe definitely need to do better
monitoring Of the radio andthat type of stuff.
But you know, from a Setupperspective, if we find
something More above ground thatyou know is a little bit More,
you know, kind of the samelayout.
The layout was good.
I mean I think we could havedefinitely been more Together
(02:16:31):
instead of like linear, like ina circle kind of mean.
I think we could havedefinitely been more Together
instead of like linear, like ina circle kind of format.
Speaker 8 (02:16:35):
I think you gotta
have the Radios, the station,
way off away from the kitchenand the hangout.
I mean not too far off, butjust Far enough away because you
can't be cooking and trying toWork and then hanging out and
having conversations and peoplegrabbing beers and the kids like
, hey, do we have any non outbeers?
(02:16:56):
Do we have any drinks?
For me, any coolers havenon-alcoholic stuff.
Yeah, we do.
We had plenty of stuff.
And I'm like thinking to myself, like dude, if I were you, I'd
be fricking, throwing thosebeers back and like, don't even
know, slip it in a koozie, youcan add a blast.
Speaker 6 (02:17:09):
So, chris, he's a
good boy.
He was looking for the.
Speaker 2 (02:17:15):
Speaker 3 and Speaker
4 smart man knows better.
So yeah, I mean overall, Ithink we can definitely improve
on the campsite.
I think, from a standpoint, ifwe were planning and it sounds
like I am correct in my hearingthat, yes, we should do this
again next year, that right okay, so so we'll do it again next
(02:17:36):
year, but with the idea thatmaybe, you know, a few others
can chime in and take ownershipof some of like maybe the
station setup so Grouch and Iand Todd don't all have to like
get everything all set up.
And you know, you know, I knowMike and and Matt took, uh, you
know, a huge burden off of me ofdealing with the antenna stuff
because I was like the hex isthe only thing going up.
Anything else you can add to itlater, because I like at least
(02:17:59):
I do.
Speaker 1 (02:18:01):
I can beat that.
Speaker 2 (02:18:04):
I was not thinking
like it was the superior antenna
of the weekend You've got theradio king coming and you're
like I'm going to put up the hex.
Speaker 8 (02:18:13):
I mean shit, we
should have just put up the
buddy pole, we would have hadbetter luck.
I almost resented putting thatthing up.
Speaker 6 (02:18:28):
The camping situation
around, so that we can all set
up an antenna.
Then we got antennas pointingin different directions and we
can start, you know, puttingthose in to the the mix
throughout the night.
Speaker 2 (02:18:45):
Yeah, I definitely
think using this space yeah, a
space like where that open fieldwas is perfect for us to set up
like four or five wire antennasin different directions, and
then you know, bring a switchbox and just switch off of that.
That would have been sweet youknow, for being able to have the
capability of you know you knowwhatever station you were at
being able to select.
You know three or four antennasand get up and and on the air
(02:19:08):
because I didn't expect thebands to be as crappy as they
were.
Especially when, like theweekend before, everyone was
like Todd was like, oh yeah, Iwent on vacation, you know,
during Labor Day, and I got 50contacts in 50 minutes.
I'm like, wow, that's prettypromising.
I mean, like you know how rareis that, especially when the
conditions have been the waythey were?
Speaker 8 (02:19:26):
and so, yeah, when we
were in the middle of the
fucking ocean.
Well, I mean where?
Speaker 2 (02:19:30):
you activated wasn, I
was in the middle of the
fucking ocean.
You were well, I mean, whereyou activated wasn't technically
in the ocean, but it was likeclose enough.
Speaker 8 (02:19:36):
I was surrounded.
Speaker 2 (02:19:36):
I was in a swamp are
you in the marsh area?
But you know it's not directlyin the ocean sharks see close.
Speaker 5 (02:19:45):
so shannon's not too
far off, right a nine by timex9
British Army Cold War command.
All we need is a GP medium.
Yeah, that's it.
All we need is a GP medium.
Speaker 2 (02:19:58):
So for us
non-military folk, what the fuck
is that?
Speaker 5 (02:20:02):
So a GP medium is a
medium-sized canvas tent that is
big enough that it will houseall of us and our gear and
everything.
Speaker 7 (02:20:16):
It's called a
general-purpose medium tent.
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:20:20):
Yeah, so all right,
I'll put it to you in a context
that maybe you can understand.
So, when I was in Afghanistanin 2004, spring of 2004,.
Now we're early on.
In Afghanistan it was all GPmediums with pallets on the
(02:20:44):
floor and cots and you couldsleep 40 guys in the fucking GP
medium.
Speaker 7 (02:20:52):
Hold on, let me see
if I can find one.
It's really the Grouch.
Speaker 1 (02:20:55):
Army we're setting up
what?
Speaker 5 (02:20:58):
Yes, yes, it's the
Grouch Army.
Yes, it's the Grouch Army.
She's like I already got myshirt.
Speaker 1 (02:21:08):
You're not on the
radio by 0200,.
You're in trouble.
Speaker 5 (02:21:11):
Now I'm going to need
one with sergeant stripes,
though, so she's moving up theranks listen, shannon, I will
get you some sergeant stripes tosew on the sleeve of your
t-shirt and I'll do it for you.
I will sew it on for youbecause what can the grouch do?
Speaker 2 (02:21:31):
He can sew.
Speaker 5 (02:21:33):
Fucking ain't right.
I can Because every marineKnows how to sew.
Speaker 3 (02:21:40):
Yeah, I mean what
happens when you gotta like Sew
your arm back on right?
Speaker 1 (02:21:43):
Yeah, while eating
crayons.
Speaker 2 (02:21:48):
Nobody knows that
reference.
That's a Three Amigos reference, or I'll fill you so full of
lead.
Speaker 5 (02:21:54):
You'll be using your
dick for a pencil.
Nobody knows that reference.
That's a three amigos reference, or I'll fill you so full of
lead you'll be using your dickfor a pencil.
Speaker 2 (02:22:01):
What can we do?
What can the town of El Poco do?
They can sew.
Speaker 5 (02:22:08):
Anyway, tortoise is
trying to share something.
Speaker 7 (02:22:11):
Hold on.
Speaker 2 (02:22:13):
I've got to fix it,
okay, fix away, alright.
So anything we could have donewithout, I guess, was one of my
questions that I kind of want tothrow out to you guys the buddy
hacks.
I don't disagree dude, I don'tdisagree yeah, it's only a mere
$1,400.
Speaker 8 (02:22:33):
Holy shit.
Speaker 1 (02:22:37):
It's $86 a month,
isn't it?
Speaker 2 (02:22:42):
So if we wanted to,
what the hell is that inside the
tent?
Oh a dog.
Speaker 6 (02:22:47):
Those are the free
dogs.
There's a lot of holes in thattent for $1,400.
Speaker 1 (02:22:54):
There's bullets and
mortars.
Speaker 2 (02:22:59):
So basically, what
you're saying is, if we actually
rent a you know tent that likeyour wedding tent, that they'll
set up and they'll tear down.
I, you know I prefer to be what.
Okay, what are you adding?
Speaker 1 (02:23:16):
to your scene.
There we go.
Oh boy, that's a little hey.
Less soggy pizza.
It's in the tent, greatbackground too, for grouch my.
Speaker 2 (02:23:24):
Okay, somebody zoom
in on that.
Why is his microphone hooked upto the guy's crotch?
There's a microphone that goesfrom the guy on the left hand
side all the way to the guythat's got his hat on backwards.
Speaker 5 (02:23:43):
CQ balls on the air.
Cq balls on the air.
Cq balls on the air.
Speaker 1 (02:23:50):
Hello AI, that's how
you put the D in BB.
Speaker 2 (02:23:52):
Wow.
Speaker 10 (02:23:59):
My thing is mostly
is Mike's legs.
Yeah, there we go, there we go.
Very cool.
Speaker 2 (02:24:09):
All right well we
could do without Mike's legs
next year.
I got that note okay.
No, that was a hit, alright, okay.
And then we talked aboutantennas.
Obviously that seemed to be thefocus.
You know, location might be alittle bit different.
Anything else you know shirtswere good.
(02:24:30):
Anything other stuff like youknow that was kind of secondary,
that you know shirts were good.
Anything other stuff like youknow that was kind of secondary,
that you know could improve onjust want to say thanks for uh
doing everything that you guysdid well, thank you.
Speaker 1 (02:24:45):
Monumental task that
set all this up, thank you oh,
we, thanks for your thanks.
Speaker 2 (02:24:50):
Yes, exactly, yeah, I
, yeah, I, I I have to give Todd
and and grouch credit for doingall the stuff during the time,
that whole entire weekend, because like I felt bad, because
I was like off doing everythingelse and I knew like, oh,
they'll figure it out and youknow they did.
Speaker 8 (02:25:06):
I sat at that
fricking radio trying to work
those fricking kids and wedidn't get one freaking call.
Speaker 2 (02:25:13):
I know well why I'm
like where'd the kids go?
Speaker 5 (02:25:17):
so let's back up yeah
, I'm glad I didn't jump for
that, yeah thank god you guysdid so.
Speaker 2 (02:25:21):
here's the problem.
So saturday we rolled up to the4-h fair and the problem was is
our club was doing a ham radioevent and so part of it was get
on the repeater and talk to, youknow, people on the repeater,
so it's a scheduled kind ofconversation.
We didn't see kids come up untilliterally like one o'clock
because the fair had movedeverything ahead in the schedule
(02:25:45):
because they knew the rainswere coming and so when they did
that like all the animaljudging all the tractor pulls
and all that stuff, so everybodywas literally walking by the
all the animal judging all thetractor pulls and all that stuff
, so everybody was literallywalking by the booth the whole
entire time and it was only likeby one o'clock when they
started coming back up.
You know they were like, oh,what's this CW thing, what's
this radio stuff?
And so they all started talkingabout it and that's when we had
(02:26:05):
people.
But then at that point I leftat one o'clock to go get food
and head back to the campsite.
So you know, I don't know ifthey made any more contacts, but
yeah, that was kind of a fauxpas on the organization.
Speaker 8 (02:26:17):
The other thing with
Greenfield is Alec is the most
laid back dude you'll ever meet, like he doesn't give a shit
about anything.
As long as we leave it cleanand we don't destroy anything,
he could care less.
He's like dude, whatever come, whenever, don't worry about it,
I'll leave the gate open becauseI'm like, hey, we got some guys
coming early in the morning.
He's like I'll leave the gate,I'm not going to lock you guys
(02:26:39):
in.
Yeah, don't worry about it.
Speaker 2 (02:26:43):
I mean getting to
Greenfield wasn't terribly that
bad, especially if you came inthrough 101 in that area and
whatnot and 101 in that area andwhatnot For travel.
I'm sure it probably wasn't badfor most of you guys,
especially going through NewHampshire and stuff, the
location was good.
If we can get up a littlehigher and get maybe a little
further into the month ofSeptember, we probably will get
(02:27:03):
better prongation and probablybetter conditions where it'd be
a little drier.
As I knock on wood and say aprayer because God forbid we get
a weekend of rain.
That same weekend we pick.
Speaker 5 (02:27:16):
But you know what,
even if we get a weekend of rain
, it's okay.
Speaker 8 (02:27:22):
Because we're going
to be in that big Camping tent.
Speaker 1 (02:27:26):
With no holes in it.
With holes in it.
Speaker 5 (02:27:30):
A little bit.
A little bit of wet and alittle bit of moisture.
That won't stop the ham radiofrom happening.
No, it doesn't.
Speaker 8 (02:27:39):
All right, the wetter
the better okay oh, I'm sorry
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, better.
Oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'msorry, your shirt's wetter.
It's better, is that the newGrouch Army shirt?
(02:28:00):
The story the wetter the better.
And listen going later intofall might even attract more
people to come because they'llget to see the.
You know the foil colorsthey'll be like oh, let's do
some leaf peeping, we'll stop by24 hour poda oh boy, I think I
missed it by a few days.
Speaker 6 (02:28:21):
It was starting to
turn into Vermont.
It was gorgeous.
Oh yeah, there's a tree here,tree there.
It's like, oh man, just acouple more days, I would have
seen it it literally flips likeprobably in the next week we'll
start yeah, come the near
Speaker 8 (02:28:35):
fest.
Yeah, it'll probably be good atnear fest, oh yeah yeah, I
don't know, I will tell you allright.
Speaker 5 (02:28:44):
So so, uh, I'm, I'm
going to maine tomorrow to
skydive.
I'm gonna go to skydive newengland, sni.
Uh, I'm gonna skydive tomorrowand friday.
But, yeah, 100, like if, if, ifwe could have planned it so
that the cream all leaf peepingright, like, and, and yeah, I'll
(02:29:13):
, I'll be able to jump with acamera next year, because 200
jumps, dude, I'll have 200 jumpsthis winter.
Like, yeah, and then I can jumpwith a camera and we can get
some awesome fucking foliageviews with with me making cusos
on two meters with everybody outat the park.
Speaker 2 (02:29:35):
That'll be awesome
well, shannon, you texted I mean
in the chat but ultimately thatwas part of what was supposed
to happen on saturday.
But the you know weather was sofreaking ridiculous that you
know he wasn't gonna jump at alland you know that was kind of a
bummer because you know it iswhat it is.
But you know you can't controlthe weather, but uh, it would
have been really cool.
You know, all the guys in theclub were like oh dude, I can't
(02:29:57):
wait, I haven't made a parachutemobile contact.
He's like what's a parachutemobile contact?
I'm like well, hey, come andfind out.
Only a few that do it.
Yep, those that know that know.
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:30:14):
So are you going to
be parachute mobile?
Speaker 5 (02:30:20):
So I'll do the first
jump straight up, and then I'm
going to jump the new setup, which is with the FT3D Bluetooth
, into my helmet.
And so yeah, 100%, I will doparachute bubble tomorrow and
friday uh, so ft3d, so that's ahandy talkie.
Speaker 2 (02:30:40):
So you're gonna be on
like two meters 70 centimeters
yeah, it'll be, 14652 yepexcellent so yeah, hit the
discord before you do it dude, that way we can try to you know,
maybe reach I don't know if wewill but it's possible.
Speaker 5 (02:30:58):
I'm driving off the
Pac-Man ad now I hear you, buddy
, in the Discord in the Grouchgroup I will post when I have a
call on my flight and I'll say, okay, okay, look, this is my
call time, this is when I'll beup, and so that way people have
(02:31:21):
an understanding, uh, and I'llalso throw it on on my patreon
too, so that way, those, thosepeople know so so when are's
going to take?
Speaker 8 (02:31:36):
He's going to take.
He's going to take the DX10 upthere, because that's the only
one that's going to be able to.
He's going to be able toreceive from.
No, that's bullshit.
Speaker 5 (02:31:45):
That's bullshit.
Listen, carlos has jumped Witha 7300.
I don't have the bag and allthe equipment that Carlos has,
but Carlos has done a 7300.
I don't have the bag and allthe equipment that Carlos has,
but Carlos has done a 7300.
So I might be able to figureout a way to do the 891 with a
battery and do maybe theReliance NFED, and I'll hang it
(02:32:12):
behind me, I'll trail it behindme 6100 or 6,200.
Speaker 6 (02:32:17):
You were looking for
an FX4CR.
Were you thinking about doingthat?
Speaker 5 (02:32:21):
Well, so the FX4CR.
I believe I'm going to buy thatoff of Matt.
Come near fast.
Speaker 6 (02:32:30):
You'll like it, I'll
bring that up.
Speaker 5 (02:32:31):
You'll like it,
that'll be the Soda slash
parachute mobile HF antenna orradio.
Speaker 6 (02:32:43):
That'll be nice.
20 watts, oh yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:32:47):
Yeah, it's a little
bit better than the 705 with the
10 watts.
Yeah, absolutely 100% rightwith this with the 10 watts.
So but yeah, absolutely 100,like uh, and and to so lee lee
asked him.
Carlos dropped the 7300.
(02:33:07):
No, he did not, he, he droppedthe 705 and and and the id50,
id50, that whole setup.
Yeah, that was.
Oh, what do you got there, matt?
Speaker 1 (02:33:19):
that's the 705, and
look at that nice little
backpack.
Let's highlight that.
Let's highlight that oh windcamp oh yeah, this thing's great
there we go.
Speaker 6 (02:33:33):
Yeah, got the
amplifier in here too.
There we go.
I was wondering, yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:33:36):
Got the amplifier in
here too.
Oh, actually, so.
Speaker 5 (02:33:44):
So Matt's gonna bring
that up To Maine and I'll jump
with that.
Speaker 1 (02:33:55):
Hey, I am going to
Maineine for near fest well,
yeah, but yeah close well, acouple days off yeah, I mean
near, near fest.
Speaker 5 (02:34:06):
Uh, I mean I'll, I'll
jump, I'll jump.
Speaker 7 (02:34:08):
Peperol for near fest
what would be cool if you could
jump into near fest into thatsand parking lot.
Speaker 5 (02:34:18):
That would be cool
yeah, I'd need a whole lot of
extra clearances for that.
I don't, I don't, I don'tanticipate that happening it was
an idea, yeah.
I'm just I'm not at that jumplevel yet.
(02:34:38):
I see where you're going there.
Speaker 2 (02:34:39):
Mike, I like your
thought.
Speaker 5 (02:34:40):
Yeah, I like it, I
like it.
Speaker 6 (02:34:44):
Keep suggesting those
.
Speaker 5 (02:34:46):
You know I would be
willing to bet by next year near
fest, I'd be able to do that.
Yeah, I'm hoping so.
Not that anybody wants to hearthis, but my skydiving goals
here is I want to get my prorating so that I can jump into
(02:35:10):
stadiums and things like that, and I want to get my tandem
rating.
Now the tandem rating, now thetandem rating.
Unfortunately, that has to waitthree years or another two
years, because you've got tohave three years in the sport
and you've got to have your Dlicense and a bunch of other
requirements.
But yeah, I mean jumping overthe radio.
(02:35:33):
I could do that as long as theSNTA approves it.
So, and whoever's got theawesome mechanical fucking
keyboard I love hearing thatclackety, clack, clack.
Speaker 2 (02:35:49):
That was probably.
I said the fish.
Speaker 7 (02:35:56):
Didn't Tom say you
wanted to be your first tandem?
Who me?
Yeah, why not, dude?
Speaker 8 (02:36:05):
we would need like a
fucking parachute the size of a
football stadium.
Speaker 5 (02:36:10):
I thought I can't
even go there myself.
Speaker 8 (02:36:12):
I'm so fat.
Speaker 5 (02:36:15):
I thought Eric said
he wanted to do the first tandem
.
Speaker 2 (02:36:18):
I did.
Speaker 7 (02:36:19):
I did.
Oh, that would be fun yeah.
I'll film it, I'll film it.
What are you going to jump to?
Speaker 5 (02:36:29):
So I mean, we got a
couple years to get there, Eric,
we got a couple years.
Speaker 8 (02:36:32):
Here's how we'll do
it.
Ryan said he'd teach me how tofly, so I'll get my license.
I'll fly you two up, we'll jumpyou out.
Perfect, live, free in the air,the whole thing.
Pilot, tandem jump, whole thing.
Speaker 5 (02:36:52):
How cool would it be
for Ryan to fly and for me to
jump out of Ryan's plane?
That would be dude.
That would be the ultimate.
Live free now, right To like.
Jump out of Ryan's plane and doparachute mobile and then make
a comm with Ryan while he'slanding the Gulf Stream.
Speaker 8 (02:37:16):
Yeah, what's the
highest you can jump out of a
plane at.
Speaker 5 (02:37:27):
Well, I mean the
highest depends on the situation
.
I mean we can go as high asRyan is willing to go, as long
as we have oxygen.
Speaker 8 (02:37:38):
You just gotta time
the edibles, so I Cause I think
he Cruises at like 45,000 feetyeah.
Speaker 5 (02:37:53):
I mean you'd need
oxygen On the way for that.
Speaker 8 (02:37:56):
But yeah, you're also
gonna need like a fucking full
winter mount everest suit.
Speaker 5 (02:38:02):
You know how cold, it
is up there yeah, um, I mean,
if ryan, if ryan was willing todo oxygen up to 18 000000.
Like we could do 18,000.
And we could jump out.
You only need oxygen over 10,right.
No, you need oxygen over 14.
Speaker 8 (02:38:22):
Oh 14.
Speaker 5 (02:38:23):
Yeah, well, 15.
But yeah, so like I mean, butonce we're out of the plane,
like, then you don't need it,like because you're falling.
Speaker 2 (02:38:41):
Your logic can raise
you one.
Speaker 8 (02:38:43):
Wait a minute.
You need oxygen in the plane, but when you jump out, the
reason you need oxygen in theplane is there's no oxygen
outside the plane.
You're still going to needoxygen while you're jumping.
Speaker 5 (02:38:54):
Gonna need oxygen in
the while you're jumping no,
because once you jump out, youstart falling and you start
getting your oxygen hold yourbreath for 5 000 feet, and then
the oxygen will come too so, allright, listen the way that it
(02:39:15):
works.
Okay, when you jump out of theplane, the first 1,000 feet
takes you 10 seconds, and thenevery 1,000 feet after that is
five and a half seconds.
That's how fast you're falling.
So you can go from 18 to 15very, very quickly, where you
(02:39:40):
don't need oxygen during thattime in free fall.
Speaker 8 (02:39:46):
Well, you say so, he
passes out.
You just see him like that.
Speaker 10 (02:39:52):
Just shipped my van.
Speaker 1 (02:39:58):
You can ship your
pants.
Speaker 5 (02:40:02):
Oh, that was the time
, Eric.
Speaker 2 (02:40:04):
Yeah, well, you know
sorry.
Speaker 5 (02:40:05):
Yeah, you were slow
on the button, that's alright, I
just shipped my pants.
Don't ever do that again.
Speaker 2 (02:40:17):
Anyway, now that
we're slowly, yes, I hate that
antenna.
I have one.
I hate that antenna.
Speaker 7 (02:40:27):
What do you want to
do with it, mike?
Can you give me instructionsfor it?
Yeah, watch my video.
Speaker 2 (02:40:40):
You know don't, don't
build.
Can you get me instructions forit?
Yeah, watch my video.
I'm going to keep the wire.
Purchase the 40 meter versionand then use the 20 meter
instructions to build it, that'show I did it.
Speaker 4 (02:40:47):
Hey, remember to
click like subscribe and ring
the bell for notifications.
Wow, and ring the bell fornotifications.
Speaker 7 (02:40:59):
Wow, and we're
talking about using World Radio
League Way to go guys, RadioShack.
Speaker 2 (02:41:08):
Relax, all right.
Well, I don't know where theheck to go from here at this
point because you know we'vegone so far off on the rails
there.
But overall, I mean, anybodygot to kind of like a little you
know, kind of summary that youknow that you know anything.
They want to throw in the lastminute of their experience with
you know, 24 hour poda, you knowgood bad Shannon, why don't you
(02:41:30):
go first?
I know, yeah, exactly Good idea.
Speaker 3 (02:41:34):
No, shannon, why
don't you go first?
I know, yeah, exactly Good idea.
No, you know I I just had areally great time and I'm so
glad that you guys sort ofwelcomed me into the little
group here and I'm lookingforward to the next one.
I honestly kind of think likenext year might be too long,
like I want to poda with youguys sooner than that you know
(02:41:55):
it doesn't have to be 24 hours, but having you know, having uh
friends with you when you'redoing POTA, it just makes it
more fun.
Speaker 5 (02:42:06):
Well, Shannon, you
are more than welcome to POTA
with me anytime before I head toFlorida Any time before I head
to Florida.
Speaker 2 (02:42:13):
Alright, let's We'll
do a photo party, let's figure
that out.
Speaker 8 (02:42:17):
Stand by for the
ninth operator.
Let's get 10 of us One park.
The guy makes one Contact,we'll activate parks.
How many parks can we activatewith 10 of us?
Oh, that would be hilarious.
Hold on, we have 10 operatorshonestly not a bad idea.
Speaker 2 (02:42:39):
I don't know about
that, like at that point it's
like you have one operator likerambling off the nine other
calls just to you know getthrough the actual traffic of
you know people piling up hey, just remember, we did that
Friday night.
Oh yeah, but tonight, yes, Iforgot about that.
That totally escaped my mind.
That was like so random.
(02:43:00):
But at the same time heactivated the park.
Speaker 8 (02:43:02):
He activated it four
times.
Did he Cause he did it?
He did it on four, 42 meters, and then he did it after eight
and he did it again.
Speaker 1 (02:43:12):
Yeah, he did it four
times in like half an hour.
Speaker 10 (02:43:18):
Speaker 3
1,050,000,050,000.
Yeah, cause I got the two onthe HF then realized, hey, we
got late shifts still, so we'veyeah.
Speaker 7 (02:43:25):
Speaker 0
1,050,000,050,000.
Yeah, dell had a really goodsuggestion.
If there's 10 of you, just logeach other in, the park is
activated pretty much.
Speaker 2 (02:43:33):
At that point you
don't even have to put your call
out there.
Yeah, I know, I mean obviously, chris, go ahead.
Anything you want to throw, less, you know, go around here.
Sorry, chris W8.
Speaker 5 (02:43:51):
Chris at the bottom.
I think, we lost, we'll workour way to the top, chris lost
in the woods.
Speaker 10 (02:43:58):
Yes, okay, so I
think we lost parker.
He uh has gone to bed in thewoods, okay, but I just want to
say thanks to everybody who madethis possible.
You know it was really fun time.
I know he enjoyed it.
Paul, you, you killed it withthe fishing pole with a man.
He uh had a blast and he keepstalking about it every day.
So that's awesome.
(02:44:19):
Yeah, and just meetingeverybody.
You know I've met eric, obviously took paul.
Mike uh, tortoise, I met youbefore and met you before, but
mike meeting you for the firsttime was awesome.

Chris meeting you for the firsttime was good.
It was awesome.
Sorry, shannon, just good, chris, just meeting everybody
(02:44:45):

Speaker 8 (02:44:47):
Meet me was just shit

I hung out with you for a longtime.
Speaker 10 (02:44:55):
Yeah, it was early
in the morning.
Alright, leave me alone.
I can't remember you.
Speaker 2 (02:44:58):
I hung out with you
for a long time.

All right, leave me alone.
I can barely remember my ownname.
You can barely remember theWhiskey One.

Speaker 10 (02:45:21):

bands just took a light switch
and shut off.
It was crazy.
It was definitely a fun time Ihad by all.
Speaker 2 (02:45:28):
I'm glad you could
make it Definitely was good to

Speaker 10 (02:45:32):
We're definitely
going to be putting on a 24-hour
down here and I'll let you guysknow.
So I'm going this weekend totry and put the details together
.
Sweet, I'll be there for sure.
Speaker 2 (02:45:43):
Mike N2MAK, how are
you?
Speaker 4 (02:45:44):
What do you got last
minute it is the people that
make Cam Radio awesome and, atthe end of the day, like, if you
don't have cool people to tohang out with and play radio
with, if you don't have coolpeople on the other end, the
contact um, you know what goodis it?
Right, you know, and it'sawesome to just bricker and
grouch with only two people.
(02:46:06):
I think I met in person beforeuh that that weekend, so it was
great to see everybody.
Um you start to build theserelationships online, whether
it's in the chats and discords,um on the air, making contacts
and stuff.
But like it's, it's justawesome, you know, um getting
together and seeing everybody.
(02:46:27):
Um, you can have awesomeantennas.
You can have, like this, buddyhacks, you know, and it'll only
do so much.
You can have great radios likethe ftdx10, right, you know, and
um and and it's a great radiountil you try to do 60 meters
and you gotta.
If anyone watches the livestream in the middle of the
night, you'll see me watchingyoutube videos trying to figure
(02:46:48):
out how to take the trainingwheels off the asu so I can do
60.
And chris remembers like I waslike why?
Why the I'm in band.
He's like you're out of band.
I'm like, I'm not out of band.
This is the frequency, like, this is the channel like, and so
I, I learned you know, ifthere's an icon you'd be able to
get right on it though, exactly, but no, you know, at the end
(02:47:15):
of the day, like I said, it'sthe people and, um, you know,
and that's that's what makes thehobby great and and stuff and
and there are a lot of greatpeople out there and I'm real
proud of, of the communitythat's being built and and the
friendships that are being madeand everything.
So it's the people, man, todd.
Speaker 2 (02:47:37):
Any last parting
words.
Speaker 8 (02:47:39):
Well, I kind of felt
like an ass, because when I saw
Shannon I said so how'd you findus?
And she's like I was on yourpodcast In February.
Speaker 1 (02:47:48):
I'm like I was not
joining the Todd army, yeah.
Speaker 8 (02:47:55):
I'm like I knew you
looked familiar, I just couldn't
put it with you.
I'm getting old shit.
I'm the oldest one on thepodcast, so you gotta give me a
little bit of a break, but atleast I'm owning it.
But anyway, like what Mike said, I hadn't met.
I mean, I had met Matt and MikeTortoise, but I hadn't met
Chris, and of course I know theother guys.
I hadn't met Chris and ofcourse I know the other guys.
Speaker 1 (02:48:18):
I hadn't met the
other, chris, the guy, that guy.
Speaker 8 (02:48:25):
And then you know
Izzo.
Like I never met Izzo in person, so I was glad that I got to
meet him and stuff.
And it was weird because we'veall been doing live streams or
podcasts or whatever,interacting.
It's like we all kind of Kneweach other but just never knew
each other in person.
Yeah, so I agree With you, Ithink it was great and I hope
you know this thing grows and weget more and more people and we
(02:48:46):
make this an annual Thing or,in Shannon's mind, biannual.
But I don't know, shannon, youmight have to take the reins On
the second one.
But uh, but it was, it was funand I I was really shocked and I
told everyone at my work.
I said they go, oh how was yourthing.
Speaker 2 (02:49:05):
Yep, it was todd iso.
Speaker 7 (02:49:06):
Oh my god yeah so.
Speaker 8 (02:49:09):
But I told everyone I
said I cannot believe these
people like drove like ninehours, ten hours.
They came from all over theplace for this weekend camp out
and I I just I mean I figuredwhen, especially when eric and I
talked about this, I thoughtlive free and ham was going to
be like us doing a podcast andhaving the club listen to us.
That's what I pictured in myhead.
(02:49:31):
And now it's like we do thenortheast thing, we do that and
thing we do that.
And then next thing, you know, like I'm on Clubhouse and those
guys are giving me shit and I'mlike, holy crap.
I'm like like people arestarting to get to know us and
then people are actually comingto hang out with us.
So it was awesome and I justhope it keeps going, because you
know it really and and look at,I got I never thought I'd even
(02:49:53):
try or even get interested insatellite.
And then there's Mike pullingout a Yagi and I'm like, wow,
I've got to look into this.
This is kind of cool.
So thanks everyone for coming.
It was an awesome time and Ilook forward to next year.
Speaker 2 (02:50:08):
Very cool, Awesome.
I'll skip over me, I'll do lastand Grouch go ahead.
Any last parting comments.
Speaker 5 (02:50:15):
Oh yeah, of course,
Skip over yourself.
Speaker 2 (02:50:17):
We'll continue in a
second, the courtesy.
Speaker 5 (02:50:22):
Now listen, I had a
ton of fun, even though I wasn't
out in the mix a whole lot, itwas a great event.
You know, of course, I had metMike before.
Uh, you know, of course I, Ihad met Mike before I'd met
Chris at near fest last year.
I had met Matt before I had metthe other Chris over in Ohio,
(02:50:43):
when we did park together.
Uh, I'd met tortoise before Uh,so I, I, oh, and I had met Izzo
before Uh, I, I kind of meteverybody before everybody else
did.
But yeah, no, truly it was a tonof fun.
I was grateful for theexperience.
(02:51:04):
It was a lot of work, but Ifeel like it was worth it.
So next year maybe not so muchwork on my part, I'll just show
up and I'll have fun, fun, andI'll bring the Grouch Mobile
Command and we could just dothings, because this setup is
(02:51:24):
set up for the ultimate ofeverything, and so, yeah, and
maybe next year the weather willbe cooperative and we can get
parachute mobile contacts in themix one more thing would be
cool, yeah you're going to bedoing a lot of jumps because
(02:51:46):
they're like I didn't get themget up there.
Speaker 8 (02:51:51):
We got five more
people get up there, do it again
.
Speaker 2 (02:51:54):
Very cool awesome
tortoise, I'll just keep going.
Okay, oh, jumping, or you gotmore to say both.
Speaker 5 (02:52:03):
Yeah, no, because I
listen.
I was the guy that was addedonto the podcast at the very end
when, when Ryan stepped awaybecause he had to focus on
flying and doing his thing, Iwas the guy that was invited on,
(02:52:24):
and while Eric may regret itevery fucking day of his life,
let's give you from here onforward.
Now, the live free and hampodcast is stuck with the grouch
from New Hampshire.
No matter where I may roam, newHampshire will always be my
home, and Live Free and Ham isalways going to be my show.
(02:52:47):
So thanks for having me, thanksfor being there, thanks for all
the supporters and thanks foreverybody that took part in this
weekend.
Speaker 8 (02:52:56):
You're just our
ambassador, so your job is to go

We'll send you on missions,Paul.
We need you in Texas next week.
Speaker 2 (02:53:13):

will always be on the live freeand ham podcast, no matter where
the fuck I am you will thankgod for the internet.
Speaker 2 (02:53:54):
Thanks, elon, you're
my boy.
Speaker 5 (02:53:57):
Uncle Elon.
You're my boy, elon.
Speaker 7 (02:54:00):
That was Uncle Elon,
damn it.
Speaker 8 (02:54:02):
One of these days
we're gonna get Elon On this
podcast, oh.
Speaker 2 (02:54:05):
God.
Speaker 10 (02:54:09):
Man, what is wrong
with you?
Speaker 8 (02:54:14):
And we'll get.
We'll get the grouch Allliquored up and he'll be like
dude elon, what the fuck's wrongwith your internet?
Speaker 10 (02:54:19):
holy magic wow, and
the sultry voice of joe brett
okay, I can sit the building onfire.
Speaker 2 (02:54:35):
Ow, that hurt, that
hurt the voice.
Speaker 5 (02:54:39):
All my hard work
anyway wait, wait, wait, wait
until, wait, until my videocomes out very, very soon.
Uh for patreon and channelmembers.
Uh, of my Huntsville parachutemobile jump, where I actually
made a QSO with the one and onlyJoe Bratt.
Speaker 1 (02:55:02):
Nah.
Speaker 2 (02:55:04):
Nice, good deal, all
right.
Well, enough of the floor forGrouch there.
Tortoise, last parting wordsWait I wasn't done okay,
ambassador mr.
Speaker 7 (02:55:23):
Ambassador, the um,
just one parting story.
Um, it was an awesome weekend.
I had a blast.
I hope my audio is okay.
Um, I just I awesome time.
Um, yes, we do need some moredelegation to get it off of Eric
and Todd and and, uh, Paul'sbacks, Um, so we can pass out
(02:55:47):
different things and havedifferent, more responsibility,
because these guys busted theirasses to get this done, Um, in I
think, a short window.
Um, but it was awesome.
And one parting story was when Igot there and I parked up and I
said where's Paul?
(02:56:07):
He said I think he's in thecamper.
I said all right.
So I opened up the door.
I said good morning sunshine.
He walked by, flipped me off, said fuck you and kept walking.
I was there.
I heard that.
I said, well, that was a goodmorning.
So, but yeah, I was short of therain and Lake Pontchartrain and
(02:56:29):
poor Shannon got stuck in therecause she didn't want to run
out, and Annie, she was a blastJust giving each other shit,
because you know I'm Army, butyes, she's a coastie, I'll just
leave it at that Coasties.
So, but you know it was fun.
(02:56:51):
We had a blast.
A blast, you know, and it.
(02:57:19):
What's cool is it was an eventthat we could get together and
you know, yes, I'm just going tosay personalities that are
online, but we all got together, together and I got to meet
Shannon finally, because she'salways her head's always popping
in, and you know, and it wasfun, it was a blast we we had,
(02:57:42):
we had fun and I did not leavewith a hangover.
So I'm very happy with that.
Speaker 2 (02:57:50):
Very cool, all right.
Well, with the lack of hangover, over to you, matt.
Any last parting words I'llkeep it short.
Speaker 1 (02:57:58):
The Utica's were
great and it was good meeting
everybody.
You guys did a fantastic job, Igot to admit, you know we got
to get you more into doing theradio instead of helping set up,
you know, like Mike andeveryone else was saying.
But again, thank you very muchfor setting this up.
That was a great thing and itwas fun.
(02:58:18):
And hey, there's the pooch, um,but that's it pretty much.
Uh had fun and I can't wait todo it next time.
Back to net control.
All right, all right, well uh,roger roger, all right.
Speaker 2 (02:58:31):
Well, the net
recognizes Chris Bricker.
Speaker 6 (02:58:34):
Go ahead, hey, so
yeah, it was just a blast coming
out and meeting everybody.
I always love the eyeball QSOs.
I have to find a way of takingmore video at these type of
events because I just have funmeeting and talking to people
(02:58:55):
and nerding out so.
But then that was a lot of funcoming out, so awesome hey, who
was the kid that was doing allthe interviews?
Uh, that's, uh, yeah, yeah,w1bt, yeah, yep, yeah, he's a
really cool dude.
Speaker 3 (02:59:14):
If you don't know
about him, if I can uh plug him
uh for a second here.
He made a, uh, he made aprogram called radio craft,
which is a mod for minecraftthat uh puts radios in minecraft
, and he actually got a 22 000grant from the arrl to do that
project for youth outreach.
So he's a pretty cool guy yeah,if you.
Speaker 2 (02:59:38):
It's a funny story.
As our start of Live Free inHam, we were at the Ham X.
We were invited to actually setup a booth there.
We did a lot.
Our first live stream there isLive Free in Ham, and Lucas was
the first guy that we, you know, bumped into and it was fine.
For what the crap internet is?
We all know HamFest have shittyinternet.
Speaker 8 (02:59:58):
But didn't we?
Speaker 2 (02:59:59):
interview him later
on.
We had him on separate, yeah,he came on and talked about my
RadioCraft and all the coolthings he was doing with
RadioCraft and, dude, he's got abunch of other stuff Like I
mean the.
Speaker 3 (03:00:10):
AIO board that.
Speaker 10 (03:00:11):
Chris has got there.
Speaker 2 (03:00:15):
There's also he's got
a, an antenna that he did a
co-op partnership with Matt with.
So yeah, he's got his hands ina lot of stuff he's he's from.
He's a mass hole.
Sorry, I'm a little fine too.
It is a big time radio.
Speaker 6 (03:00:33):
I think yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:00:39):
Yep W one BTR is a
call sign, so yeah, check them
out.
Speaker 5 (03:00:41):
Why is it that I
didn't hear a whole bunch of
awesomeness from shannon?
What do you mean?
What?
What?
At the end of the stream, we'reall doing our thing.
I didn't hear a whole bunch ofawesomeness from Shannon.
It was just kind of like we'rejust going to gloss over Shannon
(03:01:02):
.
Speaker 3 (03:01:03):
No, because I went
first, she went first.
Speaker 2 (03:01:05):
Where were you?
Speaker 5 (03:01:08):
Maybe she had more to
say is my point.
Speaker 1 (03:01:12):
We're circling
background too, hey.
Mike you just sent.
Speaker 2 (03:01:16):
Grouch another Utica.
Speaker 5 (03:01:19):
I think he needs to.
This one's empty.
This one's empty.
I need more.
I need more Utica club.
Speaker 2 (03:01:25):
Crushed hand New
Utica.
Please Fast stat Dude, you'relike having the same brain fart
Todd does every time we do thesame flow of our script and he's
like I thought we do this stepbefore we do some extra with
Todd.
No, todd, we've done this 17other.
You know 100 other episodes thesame way.
Watch us with NMOG now, asegment where we catch up with
(03:01:48):
Paul.
You hit the wrong button too.
So good job there, my friend.
Speaker 1 (03:01:53):
You're about to do
this one.
It's everyone's favoritesegment.
You hit the wrong button too.
So good job, my friend.
You got to do this.
Speaker 2 (03:01:59):
Yep, yes, yes.
So yeah, we are not going to doan extra tonight with Todd, for
sure.
Oh, but, we could, we could, wecould you know we're not doing
a 24-hour recap.
Sorry, that's not my cards.
Speaker 8 (03:02:19):
Screw the 24-hour
Pone.
It's going to be the somethingextra with Todd, 24 hours
straight.
Speaker 1 (03:02:25):
What's your attitude
now, Todd?
I'm going the wrong way.
Speaker 2 (03:02:30):
You are going the
wrong way, sir.
I'm sorry, people do not wantto hear the ASMR of something
extra with Todd.
Speaker 4 (03:02:38):
Well, Eric, we got to
hear some awesomeness from you,
yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:02:42):
Eric, thank you
Appreciate it.
I was getting there, but Iappreciate the segment.
Speaker 5 (03:02:45):
We missed Bricker.
Speaker 2 (03:02:47):
No.
Speaker 6 (03:02:48):
No, we just did.
Speaker 8 (03:02:48):
Bricker Dude, where
have you?
Are you here?
Speaker 7 (03:02:51):
tonight Wow.
Speaker 5 (03:02:55):
When Bricker wasn't
done, we interrupted him.
Speaker 2 (03:02:58):
No, we didn't.
Speaker 6 (03:02:58):
He said it was done.
No, I'm good.
Speaker 5 (03:03:01):
Okay, never mind.
Speaker 1 (03:03:03):
He sent it back to
Nat.
Speaker 6 (03:03:05):
What is wrong with
you?
They're short, and sweet, likeMatt.
Speaker 2 (03:03:09):
Yes, okay, all right,
three hours later, anyway.
So yeah, to summarizeeverything, my biggest goal when
we kind of did all of thisplanning for the 24-hour pod was
just the community aspect.
Uh-oh.
Speaker 3 (03:03:24):
Did we just lose it?
We lost it, a-hole.
Speaker 2 (03:03:41):
What is happening
right now?
Oh my gosh, you stop there, wego.
Speaker 1 (03:03:45):
Solved problem oh,
grouch command offline.
Speaker 2 (03:03:56):
You're just
solidifying my statement earlier
that I said in the.
You know the Breathing trailer.
It's like every day.
I regret this decision.
Speaker 5 (03:04:05):
You are so welcome,
my brother.
Speaker 1 (03:04:08):
Anyway, n1j, you are
go ahead.
Speaker 2 (03:04:10):
Alright, so yeah, so
it's all about.
For me was big thing was allabout community, so I really
wanted to make sure that youknow everybody who was there.
We were all like just hangingout having fun.
Like really do we need to go tofull screen?
Somebody kick, grouch off thecontrols.
Speaker 1 (03:04:32):
Just roll with it.
I'm trying, I'm trying.
Speaker 2 (03:04:35):
Literally trying,
trying um.
So you know, fine, whatever, just you know friday is hawaiian
shirt day yes, anyway.
How about that?
so my my whole intention and andreally the end goal for the
whole entire 24-hour photo thingwas the fact that we would just
be able to get together, hangout, whether we made five
(03:04:56):
contacts or 500 contacts or weraised $1,000 or $10.
My end goal was that I got tomeet the guys that I talk to
every day on discord, on theradio.
They watch their videos andeven those folks I don't like,
don't have YouTube channels thatI've, you know, come across
like Chris.
(03:05:16):
You know him and and I.
We connected up over a localrepeater in the Cape and hit it
off and became really greatfriends and that's for me the
biggest thing, because I preferto have more friendships in ham
radio than really making morecontact.
So it was important that we allhad had that connection and,
you know, we all, you know, weall felt comfortable, which was
(03:05:38):
the best thing I thought was ofthe whole entire weekend.
Everybody just fit in.
Everybody just, you know, wasthemselves.
There wasn't like anything likethat.
That had to be, you know, played out in a different
scenario.
I mean, we all got to see youknow, some really cool things
and be part of some really big,you know awesome activities ham
radio, you know, just hangingout.
You know cracking jokes, youknow getting to meet people face
(03:06:01):
to face, like everyone said, um, and so I'm looking forward to
it next year because I think youknow that's the the thing I
love most about ham.
You know doing ham radio being.
You know doing.
You know being a YouTubers, meeting the people.
You know hanging out, havingfun, building long-term
friendships, and I think that'sjust you know.
You know what we all exemplifyhere with Northeast ham radio,
and just you know everythingelse that we all do because we
(03:06:23):
just love hanging out andtalking about ham radio, but
more so you know, just beinggreat friends and, and you know,
building long-term hobby, because you know we have a lot
of lids already and you know Idon't have time to deal with the
lids, I ain't got time for that, and so that's you know
basically kind of where I sitand you know, with that, you
(03:06:44):
know I'll leave it at that.
I think you know, overall, Iappreciate all you guys that
came.
Everybody was on the livestream, everybody that we worked
, and you know the fact that, uh, you know we're gonna do this
again next year is just atestament to everybody who you
know was there and was a part ofit.
So I, I, you know, I just thankyou guys and appreciate, uh,
you know, and I call you guysall friends, so I'll leave it at
(03:07:06):
that.
You all done, you all done, okay, all.
So I guess, with that, you know, thank you everybody for
hanging out with us for threehours on this live stream.
It was a blast.
You know, if we worked you onthe bands and we worked you
during the 24 hour photo, wewill definitely make sure my
cameras are equipped and youknow we will.
(03:07:29):
You know, make sure we.
We'll work our hard.
You know our butts off to tryto get that log file Technology
everywhere.
I'm just going to hold this uphere because, why not?
Everything's melting.
We're just going to hang thehair here With that.
I'm just going to say thanksagain for being all on the live
stream.
Everybody Appreciate all of thefolks giving us super chats and
(03:07:54):
all of the folks that won, allof the folks you know giving us,
you know, super chats and allof the folks that won, you know,
all of the memberships.
So, looking forward to, yeah, what the remaining part of 2025
is for Live Free and Ham and youknow, going forward with.
You know what we got in thefuture.
So with that we'll say 7-3,guys 7-3.
Speaker 8 (03:08:11):
7-3.
Speaker2 Speaker 0.
7, 3, Outro Music.
