Speaker 2 (00:00):

It is the live free and hampodcast live stream.

(00:23):
I love that tune.
Yeah, man, every time.
You know man, we.
That is going to forever godown in the classics, I'm sure
you know.
Even if we have to replace itbecause people get sick and
tired of it, it's still going tobe part of our classics release
album.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
It's all right, I'll come up with another one.
It'll be just as good, if notbetter.
I surely come up with anotherone, it'll be.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
It'll be just as good , if not better.
Oh, I surely hope so.
We would expect no less fromthe uh you know, tunage of uh
you know, or, or I say the, thecomposer, uh, ship of uh you
know, the N1 OG stream.

(01:05):
So this is our live stream forthe month of May and it's been a
freaking busy month for all ofus.
I know, you know, if you'vebeen paying attention and
watching all of the, listeningto all the episodes and watching
them, you know.
You know Paul's been goingcrazy, jumping out of good
working airplanes, todd and Ihave, you know well, at least

(01:27):
Todd's been busy on the Diamondand I've been causing some
trouble.
So all good all around.
So, either way, tonight, youknow we decided to.
I don't know if we're going tokeep it low-key tonight or what,
but you know we all decidedthat heck, we haven't done an
AMA in a while or at all.
I haven't done an AMA in awhile or at all.
I don't think so.
We couldn't.
You know, we went back a littlebit and I don't think we did

(01:49):
one ever.
Right, did we come to thatconclusion?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
I don't think we've ever done an Ask Me Anything I
think we did, did we Okay?
Maybe it was a light one.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
It wasn't like we didn't get a lot of you know a
lot of questions, because Idon't remember, you know feeling
like I had to go talk to mytherapist or something about.
You know you know thesefeedback or people.
You know what they reallyconsider.
You know what they hear and see, so you know.
So, yeah, we're going to openit up and you know we're just
going to have some fun tonight.
But you know, if you're in thechat and you got a dying

(02:20):
question, you know now is thetime to do it, man.
Now you can throw it out there.
You can ask us about anythingand you know we'll try to answer
it our best way possible.
Or you know we'll just, youknow, ignore the question and,
you know, continue on.
You know, in normal style ofyou know how things are going
today, so anyway, but anyway, soyou know, with that, how are

(02:41):
you guys doing.
You know what's been going on.
You know, with that, how areyou guys doing.
You know what's been going on.
You know how's.
You know all of your thingsthat are going on between you
and Paul.
So we'll start with you, paul.
You know what's been going onwith you, man.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
How's your day been?
Well?
So I mean, I had a good day, itwasn't bad.
The weather this morning was alittle overcast and rainy.
It kind of cleared up a bitduring the middle of the day and
I was.
I was hoping, uh, carlos wasmessaging me and he was like,
hey, I'm talking to the dropzone, like there's a good chance

(03:14):
that even though they're closedtoday, we could probably still
get you in the air if you'rewilling to do it.
And uh, I was like yes, I gotto get back up.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
When was the last time you jumped?

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Saturday.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
Wow, okay, wow, that's been a bit of time, you
must be, you're jonesing for ajump.
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yeah Well.
So obviously, you know, sundayand Monday were both beautiful
days.
I just I had some some familyissues going on at home, so I
stayed on the ground.
But you know, I mean things arewhat they are and there's not a

(03:59):
whole lot I can do from here.
Just, I wish all the best to mywife.
Uh, to to my wife, who's uh notnot doing well at the moment.
Uh and uh, hopefully she has aspeedy recovery.
But, um, while while I, I Ihave, uh, you know, everybody's
attention for a moment.
This isn't ask me anything.

(04:19):
So everything is on the table, right.
But uh, give a shout-out to thechannel members on my side of
things Good to see Renee Six inthere.
Jeff Winget, jason Katie2UDR.
If you haven't already done it,please make sure you go and
subscribe to the Live Free atHam channel as well.

(04:41):
I appreciate all the love andsupport, but you've got to share
the wealth, right, yep?
Go, give the Live Free at Hamchannel a like and a subscribe
too.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well, now that we finally hit 500, I mean
literally, it was kind of almosterotic because we did a
recording last night.
For those that are Patreonmembers know that we're doing
these live streams, private livestreams, for our Patreon
members so they can come andhang out with us and engage us
in the chat, which is prettycool.
It was fun.
You know Ted WNTED joined inand you know he bumped us over

(05:16):
the 500 mark.
And then I looked this morningand two people you know,
unsubscribed so for whateverreason, they were thinking like
you, unsubscribed so forwhatever reason, they were
thinking like you know, hey, I'mgoing to, like you know, wait
till they hit 500, kind of thing.
And yeah, I just took a peek atit, we're back up to 500.
So, appreciate all the love.
So well, you know, with that,uh, you know good that.

(05:38):
You know, obviously things areon the the up and up, uh, with
your wife there, and we'll sendsome good prayers and thoughts.
And, as Todd said, you know, ifwe can figure out how to get
over there and take that damnplow off the lawnmower, we'll go
over and mow your lawn too.
You know, we'll have to figurethat one out.
I'll bring over a tool set andwe'll go from there.
If we have to go whip out thetorch, so be it.
Man, this is the way it goes.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Now there's no torch in the John Deere.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
So cool, all right, well, with that, I'm going to
throw it over to Todd there.
Man, now you're over, some ofyour technical difficulties
there.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
But what's been going on with you?
Well, I fixed it without yourhelp, because with a Mac it just
works.
Just let it sit for a while andit'll just turn on.
So I haven't figured out.
I don't know if my headphonesare plugged into my docking
station or not.
I gotta fix these wires, um.
But I'm glad I'm here, glad I'mon the on the big screen now
and on my regular camera and notmy laptop camera.

(06:36):
Um, I've been super busy.
Baseball is like out of controlright now.
It's uh, the middle school teamended but all-stars started and
I have playoffs for the townthursday, friday and monday.
Wow, we win the first two.
We won't have to go monday, which I'm hoping we will.

(06:58):
We should, because we smokedthem last time and then the
following week we have our firsttournament and we also have the
Quad Town playoffs for the recteam.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
You guys just make up tournaments just to fill your
time with I don't know, becauseI feel like you do.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
I'm just being told that they're all these
tournaments and stuff.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
You have to go to the Tri-City town of the Quad City
area stuff.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
So you have to go to the tri-city town of uh, the
quad city area, and then thisweekend he, he has his um, zach
has his travel team playoffs allweekend.
So we have four, at least fourgames uh, this weekend.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
So that should be fun so I feel like there's a johnny
danager field like line in here.
Call us when you don't have anymore baseball kind of thing or
something.
I don't know what the fuck thatwent out, but anyway.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
So, uh, ham radio has been on the side.
I did buy a new Jeep.
Um, I traded in.
I never thought I'd trade thisJeep in that I had.
But my wife got a uh grandCherokee lease with uh part
electric and um, I went to thedealership just to see what the
Jeep was like in the sameversion and I just had to have

(08:09):
it.
So, uh, the thing is awesome.
It's got 375 horsepower.
I drove to work and threequarters of the way back and I
only had 95% battery.
So hopefully tomorrow I'm allcharged up, I'll get a.
I'll see if I can get to andfrom work.
I'm just electric.
But uh, it's kind of like ahybrid and it's uh and it was

(08:29):
cool as a dealership.
Let me keep my tires from myold jeep, because when you buy
new cars or lease new cars, theyalways put those shit tires on
that last like 10 000 miles, andI just bought those tires last
year.
So I'm like, do you mindswapping out?
He goes nope, you can, we'llswap them out for you.
So got my old tires on it andthen, uh, it's running well,
it's good.
Now I just got to figure outhow to put the ham radio back in

(08:50):
yeah, that another challenge.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Like you know, it's the old adage if it ain't broke,
don't fix it.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Well, with todd, it's just you know, we'll break it
and we'll fix it again, noproblem let me tell you this it
it's just one more thing now Ihave to add to my to-do list of
things to get done, so I reallyneed to take the summer off
again, because I just don't havetime.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Wow, okay.
Well, you know we'll get itinstalled either way, because I
know you're obviously probablyat this point, like Paul's,
having withdrawals, not, youknow, flying the friendly skies.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
You're going to have withdrawals, not being able to
use your microphone and two daysin a row I do my commute and I
don't have anyone to talk to.
I was like I went to grab themic.
I'm like, oh shit, it's notthere.
You know, you get into habitsand this is what you do.
So, yeah, so I'm a, but yeah, Imean things are going to calm
down once once we get done.

(09:45):
The next two weeks with theseplayoffs and these multiple
games, I just have the one teamand we're only doing two
tournaments over, or threetournaments over three weekends.
Summer it's kind of quiet, soI'm hoping that happens.
I'm dealing with two big casesright now that I'm kind of
swamped with, but once those gettaken care of, things should go

(10:16):
easy at work and I should beable to do some poda at lunch.
And did you do, eric, the railtrail today?

Speaker 2 (10:18):
I said I would text you if I did.
I did not.
Oh, I thought you were justblowing me off.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
I was like, how come you didn't text?

Speaker 2 (10:23):
me Dude, it's POTA.
Why would I ever blow you off?
It was like you know.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
I don't know, just to rub it in like, oh, I got
another 50.
Like you're way behind now Iwould never Come on.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Dude, I did that once for you.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
So you think it's going to become a common
occurrence to hold hands all theway there?
No, it was, um, I was.
I got caught up in work againtoday so I was kind of bummed
because it was so nice out and,um, I wasn't able to, uh, get
out there.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
But the bag is in the jeep and it's ready to go, so
all right well you know, if, uh,I know in the next two days I'm
gonna be able to be down inboston, so I might do a poda
down there and I still gotta dodo the finish up that stupid
antenna.
Well, not stupid antenna, but Ihave to finish up the antenna
review, because I scrapped theoriginal one, you know, all
together, because I hated how Idid it.
So I'll, uh, I'll have to spendthe time, uh, making sure I uh,

(11:16):
you know, get that at leastrecorded so I can get it out
there.
I can, you know.
So that's on the spool antennafor those that might not be
aware.
But yeah, we'll eventually getout there.
I mean, I got to do a photo too.
I'm feeling the same way.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Photo withdrawal.
Oh God, it's a real thing.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
It is a thing, man, it's a thing.
And actually we got a couple ofthings.
Let's just catch up here in thechat real quick.
I saw Shannon in there.
She's obviously on the prowlbecause a certain todd uh hasn't
sent her, uh, the shirt sizeshe's been requesting.
Did you see that email?
I haven't been yeah, she'slooking for your shirt size,

(11:54):
dude.
We're supposed to get ourofficial, you know uh, hillbilly
ham radio uniforms.
Oh and yeah, she's looking foryour shirt size man sorry
shannon, make sure it's pinkshannon and it's tight.

Speaker 4 (12:07):
Yeah, I'm uh, I'm kind of like a fat ass, so I
need like a triple xl.
The double xls are a littletight.
Okay, I'm working on it, thoughall right that that helped you
there, shannon.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Now you can go to.
You know you can rest at nightcompleting that order, shannon
I'm really bad.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
You know you got to text me if you can go to.
You know you can rest at nightcompleting that order.
Shannon, I'm really bad.
You know you got to text me ifyou really want to get me,
because emails are not the way.
I get too many emails and Imean I probably have 30,000
emails and I just stoppedlooking at them.
So I apologize.
I'm trying to get better withit, but it's not happening.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
He's an equal opportunity ignorer, because he
does the same thing for us too,so that's no problem yeah, it's
not just you it's everyone.
It's everybody.
Oh man, cool, and I saw who did.
I see here the kevin k0 klb'sthere in the chat.
Good to see you there, kevin.
Um, and there is a definite uhquestion here that we'll get to

(13:02):
in a second from I just startedand now it's gone.
I forgot where it was.
Chris sent something directedat me and I think I'll answer
that one for you in a bit oncewe get into the AMA section of
this.
Outside of that, it's good tosee everybody there in the chat.
Definitely, glad to have youguys there.

(13:23):
For me, like I said, pota is onmy to-do list, sadly, and I keep
bumping it down and I am kindof annoyed with myself because
today was a freaking awesome dayand my wife even texted me and
was like how come you're notworking on content stuff?
I'm like you should be outdoing a POTA or something like
that.
I'm like good point darling, beout doing a poda or something

(13:44):
like that.
I'm like good point darling,I'm stuck here at my fricking
desk, I can't do it, and so ofcourse, that just set me off and
made me more mad.
So, you know, at that point, uh, you know, even my wife is
trying to encourage me to getout and do more podas.
So, uh, yeah, eventually we'llget there.
But uh, you know, um, outsideof that, you know, um, we'll,
we'll get around to it.
I got a bunch of other crap.
You can't see it in the backbecause it's blurred but I've

(14:05):
been working on a bunch of otherprojects that I'm trying to get
video for and get into my truck, because I've been dying to get
my all-star dude set up andthat's finally coming to
fruition.
So, all good there, so awesomestuff.
And you know what was the otherthing?
Oh well, either way, we'll getaround to it.
But I think you know, before wedive into the illustrious AMA

(14:25):
and you know, and those that arein the chat, if you want to
throw in a question, just putthe letters AMA before it so we
can tag it and that way we'llget it into the list there.
And Chris, actually man, he'son fire tonight.
He's got a lot of questions, let's, he was just thinking way
ahead of my.
It's like do you have my script, man?
Because that's the next point Iwas going to be talking about.

(14:47):
Yeah, so if you haven't heardalready, the live free and ham
guys, that's us.
We're going to be doing a 24hour poda.
We finally decided to get youknow this in motion and start
putting the the the putting thegrease to the wheels.
So in September 6th and 7th weare going to invade Greenfield

(15:08):
State Park in New Hampshire andwe are going to set up in a
pretty excluded area You'd sayit's kind of like off the beaten
path there, todd where we'relooking to set up yes, no, the
campsite I lost you for I didn'thear you for a second.

Speaker 4 (15:32):
Oh okay, I don't have my headphones on because
they're not working, so I justlost you for a second.
What'd you say?

Speaker 2 (15:37):
I was gonna say we're in a kind of an excluded area
of the camp campground, rightyeah, so, uh, it's really a cool
place.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
It's gonna to be, um, it's going to be like either in
this parking lot where myflying club sets up for the
float fly.
It's right on the lake, and ifthat doesn't work, or we think
that that's not the best place.
Right to the left of it is, um,a big grass field, um, where we
could set up there, and it'sthere right like near the uh,

(16:07):
the bath house, so you can usethe bathroom and get water and
that kind of stuff.
But, uh, it's a pretty quietplace.
It's, um, it's great that the,the ranger, or whatever you call
him, who he's a, he's a, he's areally good guy and, uh, he's
pretty low key.
He doesn't care about you knowwhat she says.
He's seen a bunch of us upthere activating the park, so he

(16:27):
knows a little bit about it and, uh, he'll probably come and
hang out with us and join inbecause, uh, he actually lives
there.
Uh, across the lake is the uh,he's got a house.
The ranger lives in a houseover there, so, but, yeah, it's
cool, it'll be quiet.
There won't be a lot of peoplethere.
There could be some campers, but, uh, it's not going to be
like you know, prime time, wherethe place is packed and tons of

(16:48):
kids running around and goingin the, in the lake and stuff.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
So yeah, so, yeah with that.
So we're gonna be doing a24-hour, so saturday to sunday.
We're gonna do a full livestream, um, and the goal is is
to just, uh, have fun.
We're gonna get it catered.
So, if you're interested in andchris worker poised, good, I
want to go on it.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
You keep saying that we're gonna get it catered.
What?
What does that exactly mean?

Speaker 2 (17:14):
well, there's a couple of companies like people
coming in and feeding us, oryeah, no, dude, I am not.
I don't know about you, but Iam not interested in cooking.
I'm interested ininking,sitting by a campfire,
socializing and playing radio, and Not in that order per se.
You know it'll be A mix ofeverything throughout the whole,
entire 24 hours.
So, you know, my Ultimate goalis not to have to worry About

(17:36):
food, and so, like HRCC doestheir campouts, they have a you
know company that you know theyinclude in their campout fee,
and so we're going to dosomething similar.
So, um, what we're trying to doright now is kind of gather,
just rough head count, you know,in essence, if you're
interested um, paul, I don'tknow if you got the link there
that you could scroll down atthe bottom um, we'll throw it in
the chat too as well.

(17:57):
Um, it's a 24 h dash, poda.
This time it's not 24 hoursspelled out.
So if you grab the url, again.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
Please come, because I don't want to.
I don't want the three of us.
We'll die if it's just like thethree of us who have to do 24
hours of calling cq, yeah yeah, chris, we would love to have you
from ohio.

Speaker 2 (18:16):
So even if you're outside the state, it's not just
new hampshire or new englandonly, or northeast only
everybody's welcome.
You know, if you're a part ofthe live free and ham community
or even just you know, you wantto come hang out because it's
cool, camp out in the northeast.
It's literally in september, soit's going to be cool weather.
It's usually like fall weather,so it's awesome, like
temperatures, mid, you know, during the day, and then it's

(18:37):
cool at night, so you don't likedie of heat, um, so it's always
a good stuff there, um and so,yep, uh, paul threw that link
there.
So just head over, fill outthat quick form, um, just so we
can get you in the list, andthen we'll, uh, you know, reach
back out to you once we finallyget, uh, you know, more of a
head count, um and the like.
And so if you're flying in andyou're from the outside and

(18:58):
you're not, you know, uh, andyou're looking for
accommodations, let us know wecan, you know, kind of help you
out there, um and uh, get you onboard.
But yeah, we're looking forwardto it.
It's going to be freakingawesome.
That's, you know, that's theway I'm looking at it.
You know it's going to be.
It's going to be epic.
That's just the way you have tolook at it period, epic.
It's going to be like a pot offield day, oh god, yeah, I mean
I, you know my voice has slowlybeen recovering, just from a

(19:20):
cold.
I guarantee by by the time weget to, you know, september 7th,
6th and 7th, I'm going to be,like you know, hoarse and not
able to talk for like a week anda half because I am not going
to shut the hell up.
So, all good.
So, yeah, so that's the 24-hourpodo.
So if that excites you and youwant to join in, please come.
We want as many people you knowthat are interested in coming.

(19:42):
Bring your as many people youknow that are interested in
coming.
Bring your families, you know,if you want to come solo, and or
if you want to come for the dayand operate, you know we'll
have like plenty of time and youcan come on, and we're going to
be doing a bunch of giveawaystoo.
So I'm going to reach out to acouple of vendors, see if we can
get some prizes to give awayfor both on the live stream and
the folks that are there.
And you know, hey, if there'san interest and people want to

(20:07):
do a custom shirt, I'm game forit.
We could put something together.
That'd be pretty cool.
Sweet, all right.
Well, with outside of that, chris, is there anything else?
You want to continue to followon my script there, or should I
just continue on?
I just want to pause to giveyou a second there to catch up.

Speaker 3 (20:19):
Well, while you're pausing for Chris's questions,
what are the libations thisevening, boys?

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Oh, okay, well, I am doing a mix of water and one of
my favorite beers called AspectOriented from a brewery down
here called Spyglass.
If you've ever been to Nashuaor you're in this area and you
look me up, I am happy to bringyou there, send you there

(20:47):
wherever.
I love their beers.
They are a great bunch of guys, great brew place and awesome
food.
So, yeah, I'm doing that with alittle bit of water on the side
.
So what about you, man?

Speaker 3 (20:57):
Well, so when I visited Mr Carlos Felix, visited
Mr Carlos Felix Life atTerminal Velocity he gifted me
this bottle of three Floyds.
It's called Blood Forge and itis made in Munster, indiana.
Oh, that's a cool bottle.

(21:18):
That's what we got.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Very cool.
How's the mouth feel with that?

Speaker 3 (21:26):
Interesting.
How's the mouth feel with thatso interesting?
So it's 66% corn, 30% rye and4% malted barley, and typically
bourbons with rye I'm not a fanof, but this is really good.
It's a little bit higher on theproof scale.

(21:46):
It's uh what?
102 proof um.
But uh, yeah, it's, it's good.
You know, just a little bit ofwater.
I don't have ice, so just alittle bit of water opens it up.
Nice cool.
Yeah, it's uh very caramellynice todd.

Speaker 2 (22:04):
You still uh working your uh energy stuff or what was
the stuff you were workingbefore you had a bunch of salt,
uh things.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
You were, yeah, going over cold I'm drinking my uh I
don't know what it's calledlemon, it's electrolyte drink
mix, it's uh grapefruit saltbecause I'm always dehydrated
and drinking water and I drink alot of water.
I get dehydrated.
I don't know what the deal is.
I probably drink close to agallon of water a day holy crap,

(22:33):
dude I know it's.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Did you ever get to do anything besides head to the
men's room?
Yeah, I go a lot.

Speaker 4 (22:39):
Yeah, he goes right through you.
It's kind of like drinking beer.
It's like when you, when youbreak the seal, it it's all over
.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
It's done, Let it flow, as they say.
Oh man, Well, hey, Sharon, ohman, Sorry about the surgery.
Hopefully nothing too crazythere, but good to see you in
the chat and thanks for hangingout with us.
And hopefully you got thatshirt size written down there so
you can get our officialuniform coming.
We're looking forward to theHillbillies uniform there.

(23:06):
I definitely got all thestickers just recently, so I'm
pretty psyched.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
Yeah and hey.
All the best wishes there forthe surgery.

Speaker 2 (23:17):
Yeah, good luck.
Yep, all right.
Well, so with that, before weget into our AMAs and I know
we're going to bump this downthe list we always love to run.
You know something extra withTodd.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
Oh, come on, it's live.
We're not doing that tonight.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Come on, dude, you've only done it once, you know,
and at this point you've got toat least try three times.
Maybe you'll do better thistime.
You know, do it for the crew.
You know, do we have to makethe chat force you?
Oh God, All right, fine, okay, all right, good, okay, well, you
know.
With that, then you know we'regoing to kick this off.

(23:52):
Here we go.
It's everyone's favoritesegment.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
And now a little something extra with Todd WNSTJ
Still a general on computer workwith me here.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Where is?
I think this is the one.
Let me just make sure.
No, uh, no, that's our livepoll.
Come on, where the heck did our?
Oh you know what?
I never created it, dang it.
We did it for our live streamand I didn't create a uh scene
here.
Let me uh fix this one hereextra, you know so.
So, todd, you can start, uh youknow cramming in the next five

(24:42):
seconds here I'll uh create aquick scene and get this thing
loaded here.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Oh man, all right, uh speak ah todd, I'm glad that I
got ready before you were readyoh yeah, thank you.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
I appreciate, man, it's always.
It always makes you look better, so I'm happy for it.
All right, uh, there we go here.
Guys, just bear with me while Ido all of this wicked magic in
the background here.
Um uh, speaker, come on.
All right.
Uh, let's go grouch here bedscreen.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
Chris is right, there's nothing wrong with being
a general, but we just love togive todd shit because that's
fun to do.
Yeah, yeah and.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Todd takes it on the chin pretty well.
So we're good, all right, andlet's go add myself in here so I
can actually pretend like Iknow what I'm doing.
All right, screw this Ready.
Okay, transition Okay, why areyou offline?
There, mr Grouch.
Add to scene.
There we go.
Maybe, if I do it the right wayhere.
There, mr Grouch, add to scene.

(25:43):
There we go.
Maybe, if I do it the right wayhere, let's do this.
Go here, get rid of this trash.
There we go.
See, this is how the world ofYouTube behaves here, guys,
everything's all good.
Okay, there we go.
Hey, see, I know what the hellI'm doing.
Let's see if Todd does Allright.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
So your favorite VE Quizmaster here with Todd's
first random question from theExtra Class Question Pool.
Todd, what is the purpose ofconnecting the Zener diodes
between a MOSFET gate and itssource or drain?

(26:22):
Is it A To protect thesubstrate from excessive
voltages.
B To protect the gate fromstatic damage.
C To provide a voltagereference for the correct amount
of reverse bias gate voltage.
Or is it D to keep the gatevoltage within specifications

(26:49):
and prevent the device fromoverheating?
Ooh, and a little matrixbackground.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
There we go.
I'm going to make it a littletechnical.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
Wow God, I don't remember this one, zener, diode
Huh.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
Okay, I don't know.
Well, you know.
So we're going to throw in alittle bit of a layer here.
Man, you can phone a friend orphone a chat friend.
If you want to do that, howabout that?
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (27:12):
Are you going to go for it?
Yeah, I'll go for it.
Okay, all right.
All right, I'm going to go withC.
Hmm.

Speaker 2 (27:26):
Ah, man, b seems to trigger something here.
But yeah, I think it's more C,but I'll go with B myself here.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
All right.
Well, Todd's answer is C.
C is incorrect.
Eric's answer is B and B isincorrect.
Eric's answer is B.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
And B is correct.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
Wow, okay, to protect the gate from static damage.
Static is your friend.
If you remember that staticshocks deliver kilovolts, you
might hastily choose thedistractor, which is to protect
the substrate from excessivevoltages.
But that's wrong, because thesubstrate is sturdy and not at

(28:10):
risk.
Instead, you need to protectthe gate from static damage.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
See, you should be happy, todd, because I've been
listening to HRCC's podcast withLeah trying to do all of that,
and she's just been getting, week after week, all of the you
know the maps of uh, you knowresistors and flows and
schematics, and she's like shespends 45 minutes describing
every line and every squiggleand like trying to tell the

(28:38):
audience and I'm like, oh mygosh, I have to fast forward
through this one.
It's fast forward, this one,because like it's a long
dissertation.
If someone tried to explain aschematic.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
All right, todd.
Well, you struck out on yourfirst attempt.
That's okay.
Okay, no problem.
Question number two which ofthe following can be measured by
a two-port vector networkanalyzer?
Is it A pulse rise, time, bforward power, c filter

(29:19):
frequency response or D phasenoise?
Oh, Huh, yeah, that's a toughone Um.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
I don't know.
I'm thinking forward powerseems right.
I mean, that's usually what youuse.
Oh, that's vector networkanalyzer.
So a filter frequency responsemight be closer to that, that's
what I'm thinking.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
I was thinking C.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Yeah, let's go with C .
My friend, both of us, sure, all right, let's both be wrong.
All right, there we go, nice, all right now, you.
Now you're gonna definitelycrash on the next one because
you don't want to hear the song, but I'm all for it.
My friend, bring it on, allright.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
So for your explanation, all of the other
answers can be measured withonly one port.
Noise can be measured on anoscilloscope.
Pulse rise, time can bemeasured on an oscilloscope.
Forward power needs a specialpower meter.
Silly hint two ports, two FsFilter, frequency, cool.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Oh, I hate these.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
Oh yes, these are all the.
Yeah, yeah, you jinx me atleast it's not your cards.
I know right, it's not a fullschematic there.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
Alright so we got figure E6-3 here, alright, and
so you've got six images infront of you.
In the figure, which is theschematic symbol for the NOT
operation?
Is it A, 4, b, 5, c, 2, or D 6?

(31:19):
Remember, you're looking forthe not, which one of those
symbols is the not.
Look at 4 and 2 they look sosimilar.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
So dumb came up with these things.
I'm going to go with 2 what arethe choices again, paul?

Speaker 3 (31:42):
so C is 2, 5 looks better for me.
I'm going to go with.
I'm going to go with two.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
What are the choices again, Paul.
So C is two.
Five looks better for me, butyeah.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
So B?
Oh, and look at that, todd didit without, without the music.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Oh, wow, dude, there is a, there is hope for you.
That's awesome.
You don't have to have aconfirmed aid when you actually
do the live.

Speaker 4 (32:07):
Just looking at the matrix going I'm like, oh, I
know right.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
So Todd says C.
He is incorrect.
Eric, what did you say?
You said five.
Yeah, five B is correct.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
Yes, the electronics class, the not gate, not not.

Speaker 3 (32:26):
So here we go.
If you look at the figure, allright, one is an and gate.
Number two is an and gate.
Number three is an or gate.
Number four is an or gate.
Number four is a, nor gate.
Number five is a, not gate, andnumber six is most similar to

(32:53):
an amplifier, not not.
It is not applicable to any ofthis.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Oh, he will, Okay, so I got the two out of three.
My friend, bring it on, I'mwaiting.
I love that song.
There you go, there you go,awesome, all right, well, dude,
no problem.
I mean better than last time.
I mean last live stream, youwere 0 for 3.
So this one, you know.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
I think better than our recording last night.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Well, true, but you know, yeah, well so you are
improving over all the livestream.
You know components so good foryou, man.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
I haven't studied in like a week and a half.
It's really been bad.
I got to just start doing itevery day.

Speaker 2 (33:40):
This is the circle of trust, man, you know we'll
still love you because you're ageneral if I get my extra, then
what is everyone going to do?
They're all going to be we'reall going to go to the.
You know we're all going to goto the extra bands they're not
going to watch the podcast.

Speaker 4 (33:52):
It's all going to crumble and fail, and it all
because I got my extra yeah, well, you know, hey, that's
totally fine, dude.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
You know, in essence we're going to continue this,
this, this kind of spin-off.
So you know, we're thinking, you know, when we go, even if
todd gets his extra, we're goingto go to ham fest, we're going
to do live streams from them, and so we're going to just do
the segment, like we did when wewent to near fest.
So you know, be prepared if youthink you can, you know, go
toe-to-toe.
You know well, you know you,we'll say it that way if you

(34:22):
actually get three out of three.
I know the last two people, three people that we interviewed
one of the generals.
It was a general for like sevenyears ago, so the test had
changed at least twice, I think.
In his entire time it kind ofreally egged on his face All
good, either way, it was cool, all right.
So, uh, you know, all goodeither way.
So you know it was cool.

(34:43):
Uh, so all right.
Well, we've got a bunch of AMAquestions.
So again, like, if you want toask us anything and tonight is
everything, uh goes.
We've got a bunch of AMAquestions already started here
in the chat and I can't figureout out yet.
Um, you know, I did star a few,and so I guess we could start
from the top there.
If you want to throw a, few outthere.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
I don't, I don't, I don't know where the stars end
up.
Yeah, they don't.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Yeah, they don't show like a list I'm like, can I do
a search for a star, you knowanyway.
So as we uh, oh, you know what, hey if you do a hold on, do a,
but go ahead.

Speaker 3 (35:19):
Okay, so real quick.
The ladies, the soda ladies.
Yes, that episode just droppedon Monday, right, amy and Paula?
Yep, yes, amy and Paula, allright.
So, jeff Winget, check the mostrecent drop that went out on

(35:39):
Monday.
And, yeah, you'll see amy andpaula, because, uh, amy's the
one that's in oregon.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Yeah, yep, amy's in oregon and yeah, paula is uh
over ohio or somewhere michiganarea.

Speaker 4 (35:52):
So wasn't that the first time they actually saw
each other?

Speaker 2 (35:56):
yeah, conversing, yeah conversing via phone and
you know text and everythingelse like that.
So it's pretty cool to see thatconnection.
But freaking a amy is likeshe's the boss man, like she's
just like hey, we want to startsomething new, and she's like
off doing a 5-2, like you know, within her club, you know
contest or you know she was.
She just emailed me backthanking me for sending her the

(36:18):
link for the episode early andshe's like oh, I already did
three mountains in the area thatare like 3,600 feet.
I'm like dude man, thanks forjust rubbing it in.
I feel bad already.
It's like you know, I'm stillsitting here on my couch and
you're already hiking everynight.

Speaker 4 (36:33):
I still think about when she was saying like she did
like multiples, like what'd shesay?
She did like five summits in aday in a day.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Yeah, apollo was like seven, all of a sudden seven.
Yeah, yeah, I mean that's,that's yeah, that's that, that's
boss lady big time.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
I mean like oh, that puts, a pota rove to shame.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
We had trouble driving every three miles, seven
in and just potas, let alonehiking mountains and stuff.
That's impressive.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Yeah, dude, they are.
You know awesome hardcoreexamples of you know ladies and
soda that put you know us.
You know pota people to shamemy gosh.
You know, I mean we complainabout how it rains sometimes.
I mean they're going out andall and she goes out like Amyy
goes out by herself too.
That that's like you know.
You know high super level.

(37:26):
You know kind of you know stuff.
So, uh, yeah, it's awesome.
So, anyway, just keep in mind, you know the uh, queens of the
mountain is june 7th, I think itis.
Um, I'd have to go look at thestream and I do apologize, I am
actually speaking on a turn.
Let me pull it up real quick.
It is June 7th and 8th.
So all like YLs are going to beout doing soda events and you

(37:52):
know, call it out Queens of theMountain.
And so, you know, definitely doget out there, support them,
help them out.
You know, make contacts withthem.
And, ladies, if you'reinterested, you know head over
to.
You know, search for AG7GPthat's Amy's call sign, and
that's Alpha, golf 7, golf Papa,or K9IR, which is Paula's, and

(38:15):
they've got all that stuff ontheir QRZ page.
You can check out more of that.
And, dude, they were justawesome.
I loved having those ladies onand it was pretty cool to just,
you know, to have them outshineus, because they really did, man
, I mean.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
Paul's inspirational, like 100% Paul's diving.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
Paul's jumping from the sky.
But like these ladies, man, youknow they're kicking ass and
taking names.
You ass and taking names, youknow, everywhere and anywhere.
So it's all good, so, all right, cool.
So those that you know.
If you haven't paid attention, just throw AMA and your question
there in the chat if you wantus to answer it.
And again it is the, the cuffsare off, so everything goes

(38:55):
there.
And if you figured it out, youjust go to the filters under
comments and you just start andyou can get our first two
comments.
So I'll let you run the showthere.
There you go.
So if we learn something newevery time we fool around with
the stupid software, all right,so cool, all right, well, so
let's go with the first one, Iguess.

(39:16):
So you know, go ahead and fireaway, mr OG there.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
All right, so Chris Bricker wants to know.
First of all I got to know isEric going to sell his FX4C man.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
After throwing that poll out on my channel, I got a
lot of replies back and even afew direct emails going what is
wrong with you, you idiot, Donot sell that radio.
Like there is no need to tradeup to the FX FTX one F, you're
not going to get more out of it.
That's a great radio, and youknow, guys, you're right.

(39:49):
Like I am literally thinking, you know, I'll sell my DX 10
because my DX 10, a great radio, but in essence it's just
sitting in a box.
I haven't used it in a year.
Um, I'm not going to put it ina go box, that's not your field
radio.
Dude, I have two 891s, the FX4CR, so you just see how we're the
list.
And then I have the 6400 hereat the shack.

(40:12):
So the DX10 just does not getloved, so maybe I'm going to
find a new home for it.
So if you are looking for one,I'm going to post it out there
or just hit me up on our Discord.
I'll be glad to work out a gooddeal with you, because I'd love
to find a new home with it.
I'd love to be the same radiothat the N1OG has made famous.

(40:33):
Now, if you haven't paidattention to his channel, we
obviously know what happenedwith that certain 7300.
Do tell my friend.

Speaker 3 (40:43):
Well, all right.
So, yeah, I guess now we canput it out public, right, yeah?
So last year I acquired theelusive and coveted ICOM 7300
that belonged to one, mr ShaneHale.
That somehow fell off of atable because he had his coax

(41:08):
too short and his antenna fellover.
Now I've enjoyed that radio.
I put portable zero rails on it, I bought a bigger case for it,
but yeah you, you know, hobbiesare expensive, radio is
expensive, but skydiving is likethree times the cost of

(41:32):
freaking radio.
Yep, so, um, the the this sideof the radio is is going to a
new home in California, and soHam wilderness with Frank, has
agreed to purchase that radiofrom me, and I will be shipping
that out in a couple of days.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
He's purchased it, but he's also taken on the very
big stewardship of owning such afamous you know radio, and he
is going to have to, you know, you know, take care very very.
You know radio and he is goingto have to, you know, you know,
take care very, very.
You know, and and pass on thelineage going forward beyond him
if he decides to ever pass iton.
So you know, there's somethingto be said about that man.
I'm pretty impressed.

Speaker 3 (42:14):
Yeah, absolutely, just add, add to the sticker
collection on on the radio and,uh, have some fun with it, and
then it'll be like the uh, youknow the the brotherhood of the
traveling radio that fell offexactly let's not talk about
this is not going to be anyfeminine, you know, feel good
type things.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
It's just going to be hardcore blowing, explosions
and everything else, and beerand, uh, cocaine, as paul says.
If it doesn't have any of that, then it's not worth it.

Speaker 3 (42:44):
And if anybody's looking for a great deal on a
706 Mark II G, I just put thatup on the Discord $3.50 plus
shipping or come right here toRochelle, illinois.
I'm kind of in the center ofthe world right now and you can
pick it up.
Pick it up in person.

Speaker 2 (43:06):
Man Chris is throwing down the hardcore stuff.
Man, I know Frank has a reallybad booger issue with you know,
soldering, you know we've allseen it.

Speaker 3 (43:15):
His solders are terrible.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
It's terrible.
Thank God he won't have toworry about that with the Sari
300, but just in case, we'llmake sure that Frank, you know,
consults the people that knowhow to handle the right side of
an iron.

Speaker 3 (43:29):
Yeah, Frank, listen, I'm putting that out there.
If anything needs to be fixedin that radio, for whatever
reason, please have somebodyelse do it.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
I know, right, exactly, go fund me if you have
to.
You know it's the way it goes.
Do not damage the lineage, you're going to kill it.
So yeah, cool, awesome, allright, well, you know, hopefully
that answers your questionthere, chris, you know, thank
you again for throwing that.
And if you just join the chat, you know, throw AMA and your
question in the chat there andwe'll make sure we start and ask

(44:03):
it.
And again, it's no holes barred.
So it goes for all three of usand you know whether it's on our
channels or you know, even inwith Live Free at Ham, feel free
to ask away.
So what do we got for the nextone there, my friend?

Speaker 3 (44:15):
All right.
So the next question comes fromAndy Bronson and he wants to
know what are your favoriteantenna to use for poda?
Not by the beach, I was goingto say.
We know what Todd's is, so notby the beach.
That was specifically outlinedin there.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
I don't technically say I have a beach antenna but
okay, oh, 100% I do.

Speaker 3 (44:45):
Yeah.
Well, let's start with Toddfirst.

Speaker 2 (44:48):
Todd, what is your favorite antenna?
Should we have the chat guess?

Speaker 4 (44:52):
Yeah, they should guess, they should know If they
watch us, they should know.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
Come on.
Yeah, here we go.
Come on, let's see what peoplesay.
Throw it in the chat Favoriteantenna.
Anyone, anyone, come on.
Hardcore listeners.
People say, throw it in thechat.
Yeah, favorite antenna anyone, anyone come on there.
We go, you hardcore listenerscome on, we all know.
Okay, so while we're, whilewe're waiting there, uh, go
ahead, paul, you can pick it up,and uh, oh, geez, chris, come
on.
Really the questions there yeah, go ahead, go.

(45:17):
What's your favorite antennathere, buddy?

Speaker 3 (45:19):
okay, well, uh.
So because I haven't physicallyreceived my, my prototype
antenna.
My absolute favorite antennafor not on the beach is the
reliance bug out mini nfed halfwave 40 through 10 and I've got

(45:40):
the.
I've got the 80 meter uh add-onelement to it.
Uh, so 100, like I I could putthat antenna up.
Uh, I don't ever have to bringa tuner out with me.
Uh, it sets up quick.
It just performs really well,uh, as as chris bricker can tell
you uh, it's great antenna, itworks, it does.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
Man, they do, they're matt, creates some awesome
stuff and very good for the, chris Bricker can tell you it's
a great antenna, it works.
It does.
Man Dude.
Matt creates some awesome stuffand very good for the price and
what he puts out there, man,and he will bend over backwards.
If you meet him directlyface-to-face and say, hey, I'm
going to buy this antenna, he'llthrow in like everything else,
including the kitchen sink.
So, yeah, you're definitelywell covered there with Matt.
We love Matt over Reliance.

(46:25):
Oh man, that's a tough one, like you know, when I get the
chance to actually use my bugout mini, because Paul's always
throwing his up every time we goout anyway, so I don't have to
take mine.
Mine, I think, has barely evergotten out of the bag.
I think my vertical go-to isdefinitely oh, would have to be
man.

(46:45):
I was going to originally saythe Wolf River Coil, but I've
been leaning more towards.

Speaker 3 (46:50):
He specifically said, not the beach.
So you've got to think like thenormal places that we activate,
where there's trees.

Speaker 2 (46:57):
And normal places.
So when I grab, you know, mybag, antenna bags, my go-to
antenna, I think, is going to bethe Mad Dog Coil 80.
So I'm thinking the verticalMad Dog Coil 80.
I love that antenna man.
It's small, it's portable, it'slight and it's built like a
rock and so being able to makeadjustments to it, the collar

(47:20):
sticks where it's supposed to,so being able to make
adjustments to it, the collarsticks where it's supposed to.
Anybody who knows the Wolf RiverCoil, your collar after a while
gets bent and tweaked.
It never really kind of looksnice after long use.
But I love that.
That vertical is my go-to.
I always use it, especiallybecause it takes me like 10
minutes not even 10 minutes, ittakes me like five minutes to
set the damn thing up.
So, yeah, that's my go-to man,you know.

(47:42):
And if you haven't been over to, uh, you know, mad dog coils,
check them out.
They're Australian company, Um,you know, and if you want to
get a good discount or you know, get a couple extra collar clips
and stuff like that, head overto my channel.
I got a cool link there, but sohas anybody answered in the
chat what Todd's go-to antennareally?

Speaker 4 (48:00):
so wow, real quick you out of those.
You didn't like the the resantenna dude.

Speaker 2 (48:07):
No, like, I had a lot of time with it and I'm kind of
like it.
That res antenna like if I wasactivating in the ghetto, dude,
that antenna would be an awesomeweapon.
That thing is built like a tank, it's solid, it's literally
like indestruct and I wouldn'thave to worry about defending
myself if I needed to.
But, as Paul can contend, whenwe took it out to do that

(48:29):
head-to-head-to-head test man,the damn thing would not tune up
the way we wanted to, no matterwhat we tried.
I mean, it was like pullingteeth, it was frustrating.

Speaker 3 (48:39):
We fought for that with that antenna for over an
hour just to get it to withinlike a usable SWR.
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (48:50):
And that's not anything to slam against the
antenna.
I think there were some otherissues related to what we were
doing and stuff like that.
But because I remember when Idid my review on it, it didn't
take me long to tune it up andget it set up.
But it's one of those thingslike where if you've got a Wolf
River coil you've got anadjustable whip so you can
adjust the whip for length, forSWR, you can adjust your collars

(49:12):
, but with the res it's just thecollar, Like your antenna is
usually pretty much.

Speaker 4 (49:18):
They sell it, though with an adjustable whip on it.

Speaker 2 (49:22):
Well, the one I got was the Mill Whip, which was
basically the, yeah, the whichwas a nice whip.

Speaker 4 (49:26):
I loved it.
But you can get the.
You can pick which one you want.
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (49:31):
I would, I would, I would bet right that, like the
M-Pass 2.0, which I also own,you have to have a tuner.
You have to have what you haveto have a tuner because you
can't dial it in close enoughwith that millwhip.

Speaker 4 (49:51):
All right.
Well, with all these antennas,if those of you who don't know,
my go-to antenna is the BuddyPole Pro Pro, come on, guys, now
listen, that thing will tune.
The only time it's a little bitmore difficult on 40, but all
the other bands it tunes to a Tand once you play around with it

(50:11):
and you figure out how it worksand you can adjust the one
raised radial, and you, I mean Iget that thing tuned down
pretty quickly.
It's so compact, it's a tripod, everything it fits in my day
pack with my all my poda stuffand obviously it's not as it's

(50:31):
not as, uh, small as the youknow, the bug out mini, but I've
been in parks where you're notallowed to throw shit up in
trees.
So the vertical works and andit has saved our asses a few
times.
When Eric got his, oh we'regoing to go down this road.

(50:51):
Go ahead.
Bring it up, Everything goesman.

Speaker 2 (50:53):
Everything goes.
What was that?
One day I take it out out ofthe box it out.

Speaker 4 (50:57):
We spent like an hour and a half, maybe even two
hours, trying to get the thingall set up.
It's going to be awesome.
And then it wasn't really hisfault.
They gave him the wrong lengthor whatever.

Speaker 2 (51:10):
So we're like well, we're already here at this park.

Speaker 4 (51:12):
We've got to activate this thing.
We're not leaving with all thistime we've spent here.
So we pulled out my antenna andvoila, it worked Well that was
the Buddy Hex Pro.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
So that my antenna, and voila it worked.
Yeah, well, that was the buddyhex pro, so that was the one I
just bought.
Finally got it, they sent methe wrong 15 meter element, and
so we couldn't figure out howand why, why it wouldn't fully
complete the circle and connect.
And so, yeah, we just kind of,you know, bailed, quickly set up
the antenna and started, uh,operating with the buddy pole
pro.
So it was still in the samefamily, so I didn't feel so bad.

Speaker 4 (51:43):
Yeah, and look at that.
I'm not trashing that antennabecause I love that thing, that
thing is awesome.
But yeah, I use the BuddyPolePro and I mean the negative is
you can't you got to adjust itand change it to switch band so
the bug out.
You know you can just fliparound.
So that's a positive um.

(52:05):
But like I said, if you want,if you're looking for a good
vertical antenna, I mean I've,I've hit uh, north pole alaska
many times from the rail trailin natural new hampshire um on
100 watts, five nine using thatantenna wait.

Speaker 2 (52:21):
I just saw something pop up there about if you can
throw it up nice and high.
I've seen Paul throw stuffstraight up in the middle of the
air and never going close to atree.
So we need to address that onefirst.
We need to work on yourarborist skills.

Speaker 3 (52:38):
That was me trying to show off in front of Salty Walt
and, lo and behold, instead ofjust getting it over the tree in
the first shot, it wentstraight up.

Speaker 2 (52:49):
I was not there for that one, but I heard the story.
I was like oh man, I'd feelembarrassed too.

Speaker 3 (52:55):
Well, I had to put it in the video because it was
just too perfect to not put itin the video.

Speaker 2 (53:01):
Yeah, dude, it was gold.
That was the video.
Yeah, dude, it was.
It was gold.
That was definitely gold.
Yeah, dude, your BuddyPole Pro.
So I'm going to you know, I'mgoing to have a you know kind of
confession here my BuddyPolePro that I bought off of Paul.
I haven't used more than once, but I used it when I was in
Maine when we went on vacationat a hotel and it was perfect.
It was set up outside andnobody noticed it, because it

(53:28):
was kind of in the fountaingarden area and the only thing
they saw was the coax running inthe window.
But yeah, it's in my truck,it's my spare backup antenna.
So if the shit hits the fan andall my antennas fail, including
my atas 120, that's my go-toantenna.
I'll pull that one out andwe'll start operating with it
and I'm sure it will workperfectly fine.

Speaker 3 (53:42):
So I, I've got, I've had a military antenna bag, uh,
and that's my, that's my backup,my oh shit, right.
So if, uh, if I can't put awire in a tree, or if I'm on a
beach, or you know something, right, then I've got the option.
I can either choose the WolRiver Coil or the M-Pass.

(54:03):
I have them both in the antennabag, but nine times out of ten,
if I can't put a wire in a tree, I'm just going to go with the
Wolf River Coil because it'seasy.

Speaker 2 (54:15):
Now I'll throw the caveat out there with the Wolf
River Coil.
With the way the bands arethese days, where it's so
tossy-turny, like you're on theocean in a bad storm, I always
like center load all my coilsand I get way better.
You know it gets morebroadbanded, gets way better in
terms of being able to hear theweaker signals.
So if you got the options to beable to get a couple of

(54:36):
threaded rods, then you know, add that to your kit and I
guarantee you'll get you knowbetter.
You know you're here, you'rehere better, your bandwidth will
be much better and you'll getbetter reception reports
guaranteed.
You know I have always had somereally good success when I
center load my coils.
Okay, we're adding someinteresting things here in the

(54:58):
chat that I just kind of seeflying by real quick and I'm
just going to ignore them, butanyway, all right.
Well, so hey, if you justjoined us, appreciate you
joining and jumping in.
This is our obviously our AMA.
So feel free if you'reinterested and again, this is no
holds barred Ask us anything.
Just put your question in thechat, phrase it with AMA, so
Paul can tag it there and we canask it.

(55:18):
And again, everything goes.
So, like, whether you want totalk about Paul skydiving, you
know Paul's Todd's coachingstyle, or you know whatever you
got for me.
You know, I don't know.
Feel free to ask.
You know everything's style, hey you know you know why not.

Speaker 3 (55:35):
All right, well, so the next.
The next question that we'vegot in the lineup is boxers, or
briefs boys.

Speaker 2 (55:45):
Dude, come on, that's an easy one.
Boxers man, no way.
No briefs, come on, I'm notthat old boxers all right, I
will.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
I will say I go back and forth between boxers and
boxer briefs because sometimes Ilike the extra support support.

Speaker 2 (56:03):
Oh my gosh, I knew that was coming.

Speaker 3 (56:05):
You will you know, listen, all right, I've I've
discovered as you age, the twigsand berries hang lower and
lower, and lower and lower, andsometimes, on a hot, sweaty day,
they get stuck to your innerthigh and there is nothing more
uncomfortable.
And so, yeah, some boxer briefs.

Speaker 4 (56:25):
You know everything in place yeah, I wear, I I'd say
yeah boxer briefs.
I mean when I think briefs, Ithink like tighty whities, like
yeah, that's no yeah, no, thatthat's the old.

Speaker 2 (56:36):
That's my dad's generation, man, they had
nothing better.
That's what they were issuedout of the military so the the
thing with like, my, like.

Speaker 4 (56:44):
I either have like cotton ones or I have like the
spandex, kind of depending onthe weather oh man let's like
tread lightly on thisconversation because I have a
good impression of all you guysright now.

Speaker 2 (57:00):
I don't know if I need to have that mental image
in my head right now, but youknow, hey, well, thanks, chris,
I appreciate this.
This is a really good, you knowdeep, you know connection.
Anyway, all right, well, sogravity's a bitch, ted.
Of course it is man, that isfor sure, oh man.
So yeah, feel free.
If you you got a question, throw ama and we'll make sure we

(57:23):
tag it there and uh go uh fromthere.
So you know, outside of that,we got any more questions, or
are we uh?

Speaker 3 (57:29):
yeah, all right, but you, you guys, you guys gotta
keep on top of starring things,so that way I don't have to keep
flipping back and forth, allright.
Next question chris brickickerwants to know how many antennas
do you own?
He says I think I have about 13.
Now, most of them being at halfwaves.

(57:49):
Okay, todd, how many antennasdo you own?

Speaker 2 (57:54):
Um, is that so?
Let's let's ask the question.
Antennas across the board, whether shack and portable or
just portable only?

Speaker 3 (58:01):
He said how many antennas do you own?
All right, so shit I gottacount.

Speaker 4 (58:06):
All right, I gotta think about this first thing.
I got one, two, three, five, uhsix, I got about 12 or 13.
If you count HT antennas.

Speaker 2 (58:25):
Oh, you're going to count those too.
One, two, three four, four, yeah, I'm close to 20,.
Man, that's crazy Really.
Yeah, so, dude, I have a 56,just alone.
On my Reliance kind of family,I have the 56 to 1.
I have an NFiance kind offamily I have the 56 to 1.
I have an NFED 40 to 1.

(58:45):
I have an NFED 80 to 1.
I have a LinkedIn Fed no, notLinkedIn Fed, it was just a
off-center Fed 40 to 1.
That's just the Reliance.
And then I get into all of myMad Dog, which I have the 40,
the 80, the, uh, the 160 coils.
Um, so yeah, it just keepsgoing and going and going.

(59:08):
So I'm close to probably around2025 at this point.

Speaker 4 (59:13):
That's why I don't mind giving a few away.
I've got the, I've got theantenna um on the jeep.

Speaker 2 (59:19):
I've got the atac oh I totally forgot the truck
antennas too, so thanks thenI've got the one, the off-center
dipole that I use for my shack.

Speaker 4 (59:30):
I've got the dx commander still in the box, um,
and then I've got the bug outmini, and then I've got a
another wired antenna I've nevereven used.
I've got the buddy pole, andthen I've got a whole bunch of
HT antennas, which you know.

(59:53):
I don't know if you want tocount them, but yeah he said
antennas.

Speaker 3 (59:59):
Yeah, I mean, all right, I'm not counting HT
antennas because I've got astack of them about that in a
rubber band at home.
But so in other antennas.
I think I'm probably in therelike 12, 13.

Speaker 4 (01:00:20):
I've got two Ed Fong antennas in the like 12, 13.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
I've got two ed fong antennas, so one is um actually
right here.
Yeah, the mast still.

Speaker 4 (01:00:33):
Yeah, that's doing in the shop and then I got that
same one and then I've got the,I've got this version that
doesn't have the uh, the p, thePVC, it's just a uh, a wire kind
, and I actually used um, yeah,I brought that one to the
Caribbean and I used it to geton some repeaters with an HT to

(01:00:54):
get uh across to it.
I was in St.

Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
John's in St Croix.
Huh, you carried that Ed Fongin the PVC pipe no, no, the
wired one, just just the antennaside.
Okay, like my gosh, how theheck did they let you give
through the TSA with that?

Speaker 4 (01:01:10):
but there were some repeaters in St Croix and I was
in St John and you know it'skind of like a distance over the
ocean though, so I set it upand I was able to reach it on a
HT, so it's pretty cool sorry tosegue, but I just caught
somewhere in some other YouTubechannel.

Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
Did you hear the TSA is changing battery sizes again?
No, they're going down tobasically eight amp hours is the
max they'll allow.
Eight Eight, that's what Iheard.
I'm like that can't be.
I'm screwed because I have a 20amp hour and a 15 amp hour.
I mean, mean, the only thing isthey make eight amp hours, no,

(01:01:45):
they make a nine and it like bioand it makes a six and a nine
like.
So what do I do like?
Is a nine too much?

Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
six is.
You want to know the solution?
Don't fly commercial don't flycommercial.

Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
Thanks, appreciate it .
You know anybody who wants tofly me around, if I want to yeah
, right, exactly when did wheredid you see that?

Speaker 4 (01:02:08):
did they?

Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
I can't remember I'm trying to remember what channel
I was watching.
Um, it was what qrp.
Uh, man, I can't remember.
All right, either way, I'llhave to figure that one out.
So yeah, I'll.
I'll post it somewhere in ourdiscord.
I know I saw it and they werelike getting into like the nth
degree of like you know why, eight, like most batteries are

(01:02:29):
nine or 16 or 15 or that type ofstuff.
So it's kind of, you know, interesting that they go that
small.

Speaker 4 (01:02:37):
More government getting involved in shit they
don't need to be involved with?
Yeah, exactly, give me a break, you know.
You know what?
Getting involved in shit theydon't need to be involved with?
Yeah, exactly, exactly.
It's like give me a break, youknow.
You know what's ironic is like.
So when I fly down south and Ihave to get on these like little
, I call them the sardine cansof these, like cr 900s, I can
barely fit in them.
They're like one seat on oneside, two on the other, or it's

(01:02:57):
two and two.
They're wicked small.
Yep, they're so small you can'teven bring like your carry-on
luggage, right.
So if you bring a bag, like aroller bag that you typically
would throw in a over over bin,you gotta check it at the gate
and they put it underneath theplane and then when you get off
the plane they bring it up andbring it back to the you know

(01:03:19):
the taxi or the walkway orwhatever.
So I'm sitting there thinking alot of people don't realize how
small, they don't look at whatplane they're gonna get on, and
I sit there and I watch allthese people and you know that
they've got their batteries andshit in there.
You're not supposed to put thebatteries underneath the plane.
People aren't going throughtheir bags and doing.

(01:03:41):
They're just like, oh, fuck it,all, right, yeah, take it.
And I'm like you know you wouldthink that they would have to
scan them to say, okay, youcan't have this 15 battery in
the in the belly of the planeand if it blows up we're not
going to be able to get to ityeah, exactly right, you know,
once it catches, fire tsa, andthe tsa is one of these agencies

(01:04:03):
that is got.
No, every airport is completelydifferent.

Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
The rules are do not apply the same to any airport
well, that was their point waslike you know, you could go to a
tsa in different airports andthey'd be like, oh, whatever,
let that go, and you get toanother one.

Speaker 4 (01:04:18):
They're like, oh sorry, dude, how did you get
this on the plane, you know, yeah I mean, there's no, there's
no, um, there's no, there's noreason behind, there's just,
there's, there's no, it's alldifferent.
So you never know likesometimes I get through with my
poda gear like no problem, andthen other times it's like, oh,
what is this?
What is this?
That's why I always say printout their freaking rules and

(01:04:40):
show them, because the idiotsthat don't know what the rules
are.
And then when you show themtheir own paperwork, they're
like yeah All right.

Speaker 2 (01:04:47):
So I saw Bob in the chat man and I've been trying to
get ahold of Bob for a littlewhile.
I don't know if you're gettingmy emails, bob, but I got to.
I got to stop the train herefor a real quick second.
Bob has been a huge supporterof our channel, so again, thank
you, bob.
I mean, we obviously have andwe didn't play it.
So go ahead, kick it off realquick there.
Paul, you know you have becomea monkier of our, our channel

(01:05:07):
here, and so we'll play thatlittle clip real quick I'm sorry
, he's a what a monkier monikermoniker.
Yeah, you know what I wasgetting.
No, sorry, the beer is kickingin my friend.

Speaker 3 (01:05:19):
My go on you're going for as little as three hours a
month.
It's not a big expense.

Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
Okay.
So with that, I decided, youknow, once we were talking on an
episode that we needed to,basically, you know, model a
shirt after Bob.
So we wanted to create a shirtthat's called Be Like Bob.
So, Bob, we want to send youthis shirt.
So you are our Patreonsupporter.
You have been, you know.
Basically, just, you know, you've influenced a lot of

(01:05:50):
people to just join and be partof the community.
So we created a shirt in yourhonor.
So I want to make sure, youknow, hey, do me a favor, email
us at livefreeandham at gmailcom, because I want to send you,
send us a shirt size, because Iwant to send you a shirt.
And this goes the same foranybody else.
If you come up with othert-shirt ideas, you know we'll be
happy to create it.
If we create it, we'll send youyour own t-shirt so you can get

(01:06:14):
your own free t-shirt.
But so this is in Bob's honor.
So you know we want to be likeBob and Bob is one of our
dedicated Patreon members.
So you know you want to be likeBob.
Wear a Bob shirt, man, you know, wear proudly.
So, all right, let's uh, dropthat there from the scene here.
All right, back to where wewere Cool, okay.
So yeah, thank you again, bob,for supporting our show, as

(01:06:35):
always.
You know we we have, uh,literally made it.
Oh cool, we got a tortoiseoverland man, the man, the myth,
the legend.
He is there in the chat.
I did see him a little earlier.
He just gifted us over onGrouch's channel there, so
appreciate the gift there, myfriend.
So let's continue on.
Obviously, if you just joinedor you've been here for a little
while, if you want to, you know, ask us a question, throw AMA

(01:06:56):
in the chat and your questionand we'll it and we'll make sure
we go.
So what else have we got forquestions there, my friend?

Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
All right.
So before I throw the nextquestion out, I just want to
just announce who gotmemberships.
So TO got a membership JeffAA4BC, steve KO4AFL Cooley and
George KC1TQF.

(01:07:25):
I've got memberships to mychannel.

Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
So thank you, mike.
Way to support.

Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
Awesome.
And the next question actuallycomes from Mike, mr Tortoise
Overland, and he says is Toddready to take the X-Triad?

Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
We've already done that one.
That's an easy layup, my friend.
That's way too easy.
We know, todd, how are you wantto answer that one?

Speaker 4 (01:07:50):
I already did Not even close, that, that's not
factory there, Mike.

Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
Okay, all right, all right.
Next next question comes frombob, and he wants to know if
money was no object, do I likethose?
What would your shack radio ofchoice be and what would be your
mobile radio of choice?

(01:08:19):
So, let's, let let's do Shaqradio first, all right?
So, todd, what would be yourShaq radio of choice if money
was no object?

Speaker 4 (01:08:32):
Jeez, if money was no option, I would get the Shit.
I'd get the flex fully loadedwith the amps and all the, the,
all the stuff, the okay youwouldn't go with your KX.

Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
You know series of like radios.
You've been drooling over thosefor a while, like all of a
sudden it's like you know.
Now back to flex.
What do you mean?
What's a KX?
What are you talking about?
Your you'vecraft?
This, that's not in my shackyou could do a k4.
You could go, like you know, atotal elite, but you're going
flex okay, I just like, I likethem for the mobile.

Speaker 4 (01:09:17):
Okay.
But he said shack, right, gotit, got it, got it, okay.
Yeah, I would go with the fullboard, everything that Flex has,
the amp, all of it, even themaestro, the whole nine yards.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Okay, interesting, all right.
Well, we got a quick one here.
Andy, thank you again for the$10 super chat there.
Appreciate that.
Good to have you in there.
Sorry, you know, I'm glad we'rekeeping you awake, sort of.
I don't know if that's a goodthing or a bad thing, but you
know, hey, as long as we'rekeeping you entertained, I mean,
given that it's 10 pounds, Iwould assume he's in Europe,

(01:09:54):
which is you know it's almost 2am.
Yeah, six A's.
Yeah, definitely.
But yeah, dude, hopefully weknock you out so at least you
can get up for work the next day.
All right, okay, flex, I getyou.
You kind of stole my thunderthere.
But okay, paul, what do you got?
I mean, you're the guy offrugalness and ingenuity and

(01:10:16):
whatnot, so this is a questionout of your wheelhouse, really
kind of.

Speaker 3 (01:10:20):
It is right a question out of your wheelhouse,
really kind of it is right.
So I mean like I would have areally hard time justifying the
cost you ever want to.
However, I mean like I suppose,if somebody, if somebody was
funding it, they were like Iwill buy you any radio.
That there is and you can haveit.

(01:10:42):
Um, yeah, the, what is it?
The flex Aurora?
Yeah, dude, that's where I wasright Like oh man, that is a
sexy piece of equipment.
It's just, I mean, it's notsomething that I would ever
actually want.

Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
but I mean, if somebody was going to throw me a
very, very high-end radio, thatthat'd be the one, I guess yeah
, see, this is a tough questionbecause, like, if you gave me a
blank check for anything, likemy biggest problem is like not
the radio side of things, because we all know we go to
like an anon or flex or k4, anyof those kind of like high-end

(01:11:23):
radios.
But like I'd be like, okay, dude, I'm thinking tower, I'm
thinking you know somemulti-banded beam kind of
multi-configuration setup.
You know it'd be.
You know we're just talkingradios.
Only I'd agree with you guys, aurora would be the way to go.
It would be pretty much the flexstack from top to bottom, so we

(01:11:46):
would have the antenna tuner, antenna genius, all of all the
flex products.
I mean I've got a 6,400 hereand Todd's got one too as well.
So you know we play in thatspace, we love it.
I mean it's great radio.
So you know, I would, likeChris says I'd step by.
I would probably buy two ofthem just to have fun with two
step by ours, you know, and andmaybe you know I don't think

(01:12:08):
it'd be phased, but I'd try tofigure out how to phase them.

Speaker 4 (01:12:11):
Where would you put those step by hearts?

Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
If someone's giving me a blank check, I'm like dude.
I want a piece of propertysomewhere in the middle of
nowhere on top of a mountainside.

Speaker 4 (01:12:20):
Come on, we're going all out.
They said they'd buy you aradio.

Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
They would.
But in essence, you know, inorder to have a proper radio
setup you have to have a goodpiece of property with low RF
noise.
Simple as that, man I wouldjust buy the radio.

Speaker 4 (01:12:34):
You're thinking a whole property.

Speaker 2 (01:12:37):
Dude, blank check.
I'm sorry, I'm not going belike conservative and be like oh
, dude, the anon is probablyperfectly fine.
Thank you, sir.

Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
No, hell no okay, so now mobile radio.
If, if somebody was gonna buyyou whatever mobile radio that
you wanted, what would you buy?

Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
oh, you can answer that one time.
We already know where you'regoing with that.

Speaker 4 (01:13:03):
What?
The Elecraft?
Yeah, yeah.
But I've been thinking too.
I kind of like that new Yaesuwith the 100-watt attachment to
it, optima, but I kind of likethe Elecraft too.
So, yeah, I'd go with the.

Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
Elecraft Bob, why am I killing you?
What did I do to you, man?
What did I do to you?
You're cracking them up clearlyOkay, cool, you know fine.
Okay, yeah, so you'd really gowith the FX1 or the 1F or
whatever it is.
I'm calling this the Optima.
It's called the Optima gate inmy mind because there's so much.

(01:13:44):
It drives me bonkers man.
We could touch on it if we wantto, but I have a feeling there
are a few folks that are alittle soured by the fact that
the whole release of the Optimaand everything else like that
during Hamvention basicallysoured any of those folks like I

(01:14:06):
.
I'm all right, I'm gonna get onmy rant box here.
I put in a pre-order.
All of a sudden, when you knowthey started to announce that
the releases are out there, allof a sudden I got a confirmation
saying I bought the radio andit's been 35.
Deposit has been applied to myaccount and I'm like I have no
radio, I don't have a.
You know a applied to myaccount and I'm like I have no
radio, I don't have a.
You know a charge to my creditcard saying that I bought the

(01:14:26):
radio.
I emailed, you know I emailedHRO and I didn't hear anything
back.
But of course they use my $35credit to apply to some other
ham somewhere in the UnitedStates.
I'm like what the F you know.
So, yeah, that's another issueand that's kind of a sound.
You were going to buy it.
I put in for the pre-order, so Ibasically slapped down $35 to

(01:14:47):
say, hey, I want to be locked in.
I got the email from them, puta video saying I was considering
it.
I said I would wait till afterHamcation or Hamvention, sorry,
to figure out what the radiolooked like, because I wanted to
see the reviews, to figure outwhat the radio looked like
because I wanted to see thereviews.
All of a sudden, like day oneof Hamvention, I get an email
from HRO saying hey, we'veapplied your $35 credit to your

(01:15:09):
radio.
Thanks for your purchase.
And I'm like, what purchase?
I don't have a purchase, sorry.
Like where did that go?

Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
And then I started to hear all of the you agreed to
purchase it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
Yeah, I agreed to purchase it, but I have not
purchased anything as of yet.
So yeah, I'm going to have tofollow up with HR.

Speaker 4 (01:15:28):
Your plan was to purchase it.

Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
I wanted to get in on it because I saw it and I was
like this has promise.
I'm still on the fence rightnow and you know I.

Speaker 4 (01:15:41):
Are you going to get it with the?

Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
No, the hundred watts .
You want to see my ham radio?
No, no, dude.
I don't know like I'mstruggling with this radio
because I like it, but I hate Ihate the strong word.
I dislike a lot of the reviewsthat people are doing with the
radio because everybody's likethis is a great freaking speaker
.
I'm like dude, I don't care,like, I don't want to be able to

(01:16:06):
hear it 20 yards away.
I just want to have anoperational radio in front of me
that does you know eme, thatdoes satellite work, that does
all of the things I was hopingin a radio would have.
So we're getting too far downthis private hole, you know.
But yeah, it's, it's a sorespot right at this point, and so
I'm selling my DX10 either way,but I don't know whether I'm

(01:16:29):
going to put that money towardsit.
You know, the FX1 or not.

Speaker 4 (01:16:32):
I can't believe you're selling your DX10 dude, I
don't use it.

Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
It's sad.
It's like it just sits therelike if feel bad, like I don't
want to be a radio hoarder Sorry, that's like not my thing, I
don't hoard radios.
If I don't use it, it's goingto find a new home, all right,
okay, so we so?
Do we talk mobile?
What's your mobile, paul?

Speaker 3 (01:16:56):
I would have to say uh, you know what I'm.
I'm completely happy with mycurrent mobile UHF VHF.
I've got the.
Fdm 400 XDR.
I absolutely fucking love thatradio.
So if somebody was going toinvest in giving me a different

(01:17:18):
mobile radio for the truck, Iguess I'd take another 891.

Speaker 2 (01:17:28):
Yeah, dude, I'm really warming up to that man.
I have two 891s and I love boththose radios.
I just can't tell you, like youknow, would would like both of
those 891s become like, uh, youknow, the the optimus?
No, I don't think so, becauseunless some manufacturer comes
out with this great like remotehead component, then maybe I'll
jump on it, but like I justdon't like, ah, I don't know, I

(01:17:52):
mean, it's just.
Yeah, I felt like Yeju onceagain left me wanting more.
You know, I'm feeling bitter, man, I'm feeling bitter the best
way I feel tough.
So, yeah, I ate 91.
Student, I would.
I would definitely.
Um man, I would probably if Ihad a mobile rig.

(01:18:15):
Oh man, the eight 91 woulddefinitely be the go-to, but I
already have two of them.
I don't need a third one.
I mean, I'd be the go-to, but Ialready have two of them I
don't need a third one.

Speaker 4 (01:18:31):
I mean I'd like to get the new.
Why do you have two?
One for in the truck, yeah, one's permanently in the truck,
the other one's my put if you,if you bought the yesu thing.

Speaker 2 (01:18:35):
Then what were you going to do?
Well, I was the field radio, was going to be just my portable
qrp with waterfall kind of yesuradio.
I'm a yesu Yaesu fanboy.
I like Yaesu menus, I likeYaesu rigs.
That you know.
No matter how much I hate themwhen they don't listen to their
customer base, I still will, youknow, subscribe to Yaesu.
I mean, it's like the ICOMfamily above me sitting up there

(01:18:56):
going, hey, icom forever.
You know, it's kind of like mything, man, like I.
Just, you know, yezu, I justlike their interface.

Speaker 4 (01:19:04):
I want to root for the underdog is kind of sadly
the way I look at it, you thinkthey're going to replace the 891
at some point.

Speaker 2 (01:19:11):
I would be very pissed if they did with that.
If the 1F became thereplacement to that, I would be
sad because I don't think the 1Fhas all of the capabilities
that it could.
Especially the one thing thatpisses me off the most why can't
you install a GPS chip in thedamn radio?
Why, like why, do you have tosell it as an accessory for APRS

(01:19:33):
, like you're?
Hey, we've got a native APRS,but you can't use APRS with
loads of GPS.

Speaker 3 (01:19:39):
So you know, screw you because they get more money
from you.

Speaker 2 (01:19:45):
Yeah, you know, screw you because they get more money
from you, yeah, screw you, youknow.

Speaker 4 (01:19:48):
Then charge a little bit more for the radio, then
they're already charging a lotfor radios.

Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
See my.
So mike basically sayssomething he loves the 710.
Now, I like the 710 interface alot, like the dx10 a lot, uh,
you know, kind of samefunctionality.
Why is everyone comparing the1F to the 991?
Somebody tell me in the chatwhat similarities does the 991A
and the F1F have?
I see more of the 710 than I dosee the 991.

(01:20:17):
Do you agree?
I?

Speaker 3 (01:20:19):
thought it was Yesu's answer to the 705.

Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
I thought so, but in terms of likeness everyone, even
HRCC, was comparing it to the1F looks a lot like the 991 in
behavior.
I'm like I sat in front of a991 and I don't feel like it
acts like a 991.
It acts more like a 710 than itdoes anything else.
It's weird.
I don't feel like it acts likea 991.
It lacks more like a seven 10than it does anything else.
So you know, it's weird.
I don't understand therelationship there, but you know

(01:20:48):
, maybe someone in the chat canyou know.
You know, expand my mind a bit.
Subscription radios.
Oh, chris, where are you goingwith this one?
Oh, anyway, all right.
So, let me answer that one.
So I would say I'd go fx4cr oror k or k, uh, k3, k, yeah,

(01:21:09):
probably k3.
Like I haven't gone in theaircraft world, I would love,
probably, an aircraft radio.
I mean, I'm not a cw guy but Ithink it might push me over the
edge to want to try more cw.
That would be nicely pairedwith a nice modern Morse key
with my logo.
Yeah, don't rub it in, put thatdown.
Do not show this on the livestream.
I don't want to see that.
Put that thing away, you jerk.

(01:21:30):
Oh man, yeah, I would say, yeah, that's a key that I got to get
, even just to have the key.
It's just a beautiful key.
Actually, people are puttingmagnets on the bottom of that.
I was listening to.

Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
It's a beautiful key.

Speaker 2 (01:21:44):
Actually, people are putting magnets on the bottom of
that.
It's got magnets on it.
Oh does it?
Oh, cool, it comes with magnets, I see.
Okay, fine, whatever, hopefullyyou're practicing your CW.
That'd be a waste.
Yeah, so I would get the newmodel of the FX4CR, although you
know there would be someenhancements that I'd have to do
on it, and paul would obviouslyagree with me on this one.

(01:22:06):
Get a fucking bigger mic well.

Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
So I don't know if you've looked at the third gen.
I did more cr, uh, but they, they, literally they fixed every
complaint that I had with theoriginal right, the, the.
They changed the power cableout, uh, they changed the
microphone out.
They put the, the cooling ventvent fan, uh, and and and fins

(01:22:32):
in like 100.
Like if, if I, if I could swingit, I would 100 buy the fx4CR
third gen, like absolutely, that's a fantastic freaking
radio.

Speaker 2 (01:22:48):
Yeah, it is.
I mean for the price andeverything you get in it.
It's like you know, and I put apoll on my channel a while back
asking you know, should I sellmy FX4CR?
And, like I said, everybodysaid what's wrong with you?
You're crazy.
And you know they were rightBecause, like, like dude, that

(01:23:09):
radio's got everything builtinto it.
That's really good.
It's a, really just like, it'sperfect soda.
So, like I am, my, my bucketlist is this year we're going 4
000 footers, my friend.
I need something lighter and Idon't want to be carrying around
the 1f.
That 1f is a little chonky, youknow, it's a, it's a big boy.
So you know that fx4cr is goingto be in my bag more than
anything else.
All right, so, okay, what elsewe got?

(01:23:33):
We got any more in the stars, any more chat?
Uh, you know.

Speaker 3 (01:23:36):
Questions I got.
I got, nothing more thatstarred.
So unless you've missed aquestion, we're out of questions
.
I didn't see anything.
Chris didn't really have aquestion?

Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
we're out of questions.
I didn't see anything.
Chris didn't really have aquestion there.
He was saying he wassubscriptions.
I don't know Subscriptions.
All right, so this is not somuch a question, but I would say
you know what's your thoughts.
Should radios be subscriptionbased?

Speaker 4 (01:23:58):
No, no subscription based.

Speaker 3 (01:24:02):
Yeah, I got enough fricking subscriptions.
I don't want to have tosubscribe to my goddamn radio.

Speaker 2 (01:24:08):
Even if it was like the FX four CR style.
No, no.

Speaker 3 (01:24:12):
What the fuck am I subscribing for?

Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
Well, like for so.
So, like I'm trying to think ofa scenario that I'm trying to
think in the like it world, thatyou know, like Apple does this,
like you can renew yourfirmware.
No no no, like, like Apple doesa trade in program Like you,
every two years you get a newradio or, you know, get a new
iPhone or watch or whatever youknow.
Is that something that's viable?

(01:24:36):
Like I don't know, like I mightbuy into something like that.
It's like, if it was, if the FXfour4cr was like that, I don't
know, I, you know if the pricewas decent enough that I wasn't,
you know, killing the bankevery month, I, I might do it.
You know if I could alwaysupgrade the fx4cr to the next
level without, you know, waitingin line for a new release okay,

(01:24:58):
so instead of instead of asubscription service yeah, it'd
be like, uh, it'd be like aradio lease right when, like you
lease, you lease to own Leaseto own yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:25:09):
Right, you have it for a couple of years and you
could decide whether or not youwant to like pay it off and keep
it or whether you want to tradeit in Mm-hmm.

Speaker 2 (01:25:18):
Yeah, you do.
It might actually be aninteresting, interesting
business model because some ofthe older people might want the
older original models like of aradio, versus like the latest
and greatest, but, like I, mightwant to see all the features
and functionality and I thinkthat'd be kind of cool.
I I would really prefer to seemore of the radios have a

(01:25:38):
software-based upgrade model,like you know, so I don't have
to go buy the next radio fouryears down the road.
It's the base, hardware is thesame and I just upgrade the
software and I get the newfeatures.
You know how hard is that, butyeah, sounds like uh, you know,

(01:25:59):
I don't know, chris, you you'vebeen causing a lot of trouble
tonight and we appreciate it.
Thank you.
Well, I appreciate the voicethere, mike.
Yeah, my voice is finallycoming back.
You know, after these stupidcolds that I got, I married a
teacher.
So those that know, you knowthat have wives, you know, and
significant others in theteaching field.
They bring the diseases home.

(01:26:20):
So I get the, you know thegreat.

Speaker 3 (01:26:23):
Your wife goes and hangs out in a germ factory.

Speaker 2 (01:26:26):
I'll pretty much.
And I, you know I get to comehome and you know say hey,
welcome, a kiss, kiss, get blot.
And then now you know I'mthrowing up, or you know, coffin
, or barely you know being ableto squeak out a few words.
So, yeah, appreciate that.
Thanks for the, the, the goodvibes there, mike.
Yeah, I'm getting better and,uh, you know, it's only now a
matter of time that mymicrophone starts to act up and

(01:26:46):
become a problem.
So, yeah, and it will be backto normal.
All good, uh, all right.
Well, hey, if you guys want tothrow in just a reminder, you
know we're doing an AMA tonight.
So if you got a question youwant to ask us, just throw in
AMA and your question in thechat there and we'll make sure
we start and we'll throw it inthe list.
Um, so, outside of that, let'slet's kind of shift gears, you

(01:27:08):
know, cause I'm sure people havebeen chomping at the bit.
If you haven't been payingattention to Paul and his
channel, which I'm going to haveto bitch slap you for it,
because you should be over therewatching those videos, my
friend, this is fricking awesomecontent.
Um, you know, give us an update, paul, what's?

Speaker 3 (01:27:26):
what's?
Give us an update, paul?
What's been going on?
How has the journey been?
Well, all right.
So I got a video premieringtomorrow at 4 pm.
I'll be honest, I can't tellyou at this point whether that's
4 pm Central Time or that's 4pm Eastern Time.
This time, change thing is kindof fucking me all up here.
Change thing is kind of fuckingme all up here.
But this video is absolutely myfavorite jumps so far.

(01:27:51):
It is AFF levels 5, 6, and 7.
And so this is post-tunnel timewhere I really got a good feel
for how, how the wind feelsagainst your body and and you

(01:28:13):
know your, your instinct, right, like you come out of the plane
and there's, there's nothingthere.
And so I've I've developed thisbad habit of like trying to
swim in the air and like, so Ikick my feet like a doggy paddle
.
Yep, yeah, and listen, youcan't swim in the air, it

(01:28:35):
doesn't work that way.

Speaker 2 (01:28:36):
Go figure.

Speaker 3 (01:28:40):
So I'll be, I'll be working on my exits out of the
airplane, but I got to say it isthe most surreal feeling in the
world.
So we exit the aircraft atabout 13,400 above ground level,

(01:29:07):
which equals the 14,000 abovesea level, and so you look down
and you see everything right andthe doors open right, and you
hang your head out in theaircraft and you look down and

(01:29:29):
you find your spot.
You go okay, yeah, it is safeand clear for me to jump right
now.
And you climb out and youpresent yourself to the wind
because the plane is moving andas the plane is moving, you've
got the the wind coming from theaircraft and when you, when you

(01:29:50):
first exit, right, that's thewind that's meeting you is the
relative wind from the aircraft.
So, exiting.
The way that I've been exiting,I've been twisting and turning
and I've been all over the place.
But if you watch the video thatpremieres tomorrow, my AFF

(01:30:14):
level six the instructor leavesjust a little bit before I do
and it was the first time whereI had exited the airplane and I
looked up and I actually got towatch the aircraft fly away from
me.
It is such a cool, freakingthing to see and, like you just

(01:30:38):
look up and and there's theunderbelly of the airplane
flying away and then, as, as therelative wind, you know,
settles and and you and youflatten out, it's just the whole
world is in front of you.
Wow, it's, it's absolutelyamazing.

(01:30:59):
So, 100%, I'm so, so proud ofAFF level six and and and that
one Particular jump.
So everything that I'm doingFrom here forward is all going
to be Kind of modeled In that.
But yeah, so tomorrow theweather is supposed to be Maybe

(01:31:22):
a little overcast, maybe alittle bit rainy, so it's kind
of up in the air, uh, as towhether or not.
Uh, I'll, I'll get up, but um,the weekend, the weekend is
looking good.
So I mean I should definitelybe able to get, probably you
know three, four more jumps inover the next couple of days.
I'm currently what did I say?

(01:31:44):
So I got 13 jumps on the log.
The first three were tandems,so that means I've got 10 that
are on my own.
So I've got another 15 to gobefore I hit the 25 that is
required for the A license.
I've still got a lot of boxesto check and a lot of boxes to

(01:32:05):
check and a lot of objectives toto, to, to to check off, but
I'm starting to actually havefun again.
Yeah, which, which is that's,that's a big deal, right, like
dude, I had so much fun.
My first tandem, like you guys, you guys were there.
Um, as I smack my mic, uh, youguys were there and you know,

(01:32:26):
right, that smile, thatear-to-ear like that smile is
back.
Like the stresses of AFF levelsone through four are now behind
me and I've developed someconfidence.
Uh, I'm, yeah, I'm loving it,I'm so glad that, uh, you know,

(01:32:47):
I didn't let my mind get in myway because, let me tell you,
dude, after, after my fourth, after my first fourth level, I,
uh I was like, do I really wantto do this?
Like, am I, am I really going tobe a skydiver, like I don't
know, and yeah, so I went to thetunnel it.

(01:33:12):
It helped build that confidence, like now I feel a lot better
in the air doing flips andbarrel rolls and all sorts of
fun things.
So, yeah, just please if youcan try and make.
So yeah, just please if you cantry and make that premiere.
If you miss the premiere, checkthe video out after.
But by far, absolutely myabsolute favorite jump so far

(01:33:36):
and so I hope you enjoy thevideo and the AI song that goes
along with it.

Speaker 2 (01:33:43):
Yeah, dude, you spend a lot of time writing your
lyrics for those songs, man.
I'm like, you spend a lot oftime writing your lyrics for
those songs, man.
I'm like, oh my gosh, what am Iexpecting next for the next
video in terms of the lyricist?
You?

Speaker 3 (01:33:53):
are Well, so it's.
It's actually funny right?
Uh.
So, uh, I'm I'm way behind onweekend warriors.
Um, for those that follow meand all the things that I do,
right, weekend warrior podcastis, uh, it's, it's what I call
my, my group therapy on theinterwebs.
Um, so, I'm, I'm kind of behindon that, but one of the one of

(01:34:18):
the things that my, my therapisthad said before I had left the
state and can't talk to heranymore.
Um was it, she was.
She was proud and pleased thatin in my songwriting right that
I'm, I'm finding like a creativeoutlet and and 100% like dude,

(01:34:39):
when I sit down, when I sit down, I sit down and I do the song
first, and so I, I, I write thesong and then I, I throw it into
the AI music generator and I gowell, that's not quite the
sound I want, so I tweak, Itweak.
You know how I want it to soundand and I'll go.

(01:35:00):
Probably you know sometimesfive to 15 different renditions
of a song and it's all the samelyrics, but you know like the
sound is different.
Um, and so you'll notice, um,the, the last video that I just

(01:35:21):
put out, uh, which was a goodone.
Uh, so, but that that wasactually, which was a good one.
Uh, so, but that that wasactually.
It was the same song, it wasthe same lyrics, but in two
different formats, and so, likeI, I, the video was long enough
that, like you know, I could putboth, both versions of the song

(01:35:43):
in it and, yeah, I loved it.
I loved it, I was so happy withit.
Yeah, I like being creative andI like coming up with these
lyrics and kind of telling mystory through song and then
putting the video to it.

Speaker 2 (01:36:00):
Yeah, dude, good stuff, man.
I'm always enjoying, if not theskydiving portion of seeing,
you know, every level improveand everything get better.
But the audio just just makesit that much sweeter.

Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
So nice job on that all right, well, thank you and
uh, so let's get back toquestions here, because now
we've got some questions, acouple, uh all.
So Mike Tordes Overland wantsto know.
Update on the 24 Hours of POTA.
Yeah, if we want to share thatlink again.
It's what?
September 6th and 7th?

Speaker 2 (01:36:32):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:36:33):
Okay, so all right.
Then Chris Bricker wants toknow are those special shoes in
my skydiving outfit?
And so, funny story about theshoes that you see me wearing?
They're actually, they're atotal fabric shoe with a rubber

(01:36:54):
bottom.
They were advertised as being across-country running shoe, and
so I bought them for thatpurpose, and then they ended up
not having enough real traction,uh, to be a cross country
running shoe.
So, um, I wear them to and fromsoftball, and now I'm I'm

(01:37:16):
wearing them for skydiving, justcause they're so comfortable,
um and so, yeah, so that's theshoes I'm wearing, and I
actually I could, I could findthe link for the shoes and I
could put them in my video, butthanks for asking that question,
chris.
And then Chris asked anotherquestion.

(01:37:36):
He says bridge jumpers whosurvive always say they
immediately regret nothing andcome to terms with their life.
Did you have a come to jesusmoment like that and tell us
about it?
All right, so, actually, likeit's not really a come to jesus
moment, but I will say I havenever in my life experienced, um

(01:38:03):
, just being in the presentmoment with so much clarity, so
much focus, like literallyeverything, all, all of all of
the worries and stresses andeverything that goes into
day-to-day life, melts away soonas I exit that aircraft.

(01:38:26):
I am purely focused on, on the,the feelings that I'm going
through, um, and so it's there's, there's, there's peace and
calmness and and literally, um,it, it lasts, it lasts and lasts
and lasts after, after the jumpand after I'm on the ground,

(01:38:49):
like it'll be, you know, six, seven hours later.
And I'm still grinning ear toear and I'm still, you know,
just like in that, in thatclarity of mind, um, yeah, so I
mean, I gotta say I've met acouple other combat veterans

(01:39:10):
that are into skydiving and theyecho the sentiment, right, that
like, literally, when you're inthe air, nothing else matters,
like it's just you doing whatyou're doing and, um, it's hard,
it's yeah, it's hard to putinto words, but it's, it's an

(01:39:32):
absolutely amazing feeling.

Speaker 2 (01:39:35):
We got to come up with a nickname for you because
obviously you know, carlos is aparachute Jesus.
You know, maybe you're aapostle Paul.
I mean, that might work.

Speaker 3 (01:39:46):
Paul was an apostle.

Speaker 2 (01:39:48):
He was and so it's like goes hand in hand.
Man, you know both skydiving, you know, spreading the,
spreading the great good news ofskydiving, uh, you know, and
ham video across the nation.

Speaker 3 (01:39:58):
Yes, absolutely yeah.
I will be Carlos's apostle onthat one, throw one in the chat.

Speaker 2 (01:40:05):
If you think that's going to stick, we'll make it
stick.
I think the Apostle Paul workswell.
That's funny.
Okay, cool, we got any morequestions there.

Speaker 3 (01:40:18):
Yeah, so I got one more question here that starred
Bobcoff asked this is for Paul.
I'm 71 years young, so, takingthat into consideration, how
easy would it be to break a legor worse, upon landing after a
parachute jump?

Speaker 2 (01:40:37):
Well, if you wrap, your leg in your parachute.
You know wires.
You might possibly break yourleg.

Speaker 3 (01:40:42):
Well, listen, not to say that I didn't do that, but I
have had one hard landing sofar.
But they teach you in theground school and Carlos did a
very, very good job at this theparachute landing fall, aka the

(01:41:04):
PLF, and if you've watched anyairborne uh training videos or
anything like that, like youwill see them.
They spend a whole week wherethey're like they stand on a box
and they jump into a pit andit's literally like you, you
land.
It's balls calf, like the ballsof your feet, calf thigh,

(01:41:25):
buttocks, back and roll, yep.
And so if you do that right, then your chances of getting
hurt are much less.
If you have a nice smooth, softlanding, like I did for AFF
level six, then you land on yourfeet and that is an amazing

(01:41:50):
feeling, like to just you justglide in on a nice level canopy
and you slow yourself rightabove the ground four feet, five
feet, and you just touch downnice and easy on your feet.
It's beautiful, um, but, bob,listen, at 71, I I'm, I'm not,

(01:42:12):
I'm not encouraging you to startthe aff process.
Uh, I I would say listen, do atandem right, do a tandem.
You.
As long as you can get yourlegs up for landing.
You're going to.
You're going to come in.
The tandem instructor is goingto slide you in on your butt, uh
, and so yeah, you're not goingto get hurt in any way, uh, and

(01:42:36):
I encourage you, do it.
Do it because it is a lifechanging experience, yep.

Speaker 2 (01:42:42):
Totally Well.
Hey, if you got a question, feel free to put it in the chat.
Put AMA, prefix it with AMA,and Mike just dropped another
one in there, so go ahead andpick that one up.

Speaker 3 (01:42:54):
Alright, so Mike wants to know question what is
your most memorable?
Vhf QXO Surprise, surprise.
What is?
Your most memorable VHFxosurprise what is your most
memory, jeff?

Speaker 2 (01:43:07):
most memorable vhf yeah, you guys know mine.
You got well, you got to telleverybody those may not know.
Yeah, I'm thinking cookie sheet.

Speaker 4 (01:43:18):
You know canada contact, right, yeah, so yeah,
when I was a technician, I uh Ihad an HT for a radio and a mag
mount on a metal roof with thecoax running out the window and
uh, the bands were in one ofthose funky things where they
were cruising and people weregetting like New Jersey from New

(01:43:40):
Hampshire on VHF, and so I gotall excited.
I started going through andfinding different um repeaters
and I thought I had a Bostonrepeater and, being up here in
New Hampshire, I was like, oh,that's pretty cool and they were
doing a net.
So I joined the net and, uh,they weren't in Boston, they
were in new Brunswick, uh,canada, they were 850 miles away

(01:44:03):
.
Brunswick, uh, canada, theywere 850 miles away.
And uh, me being a new guy, uh,I thought they were just
messing with me.
I didn't really believe thatthey were in canada until I got
the qsl card and uh, yeah, 850miles away, and I was on five
watts with an ht with a magmount on my metal roof.
So that was pretty memorableyeah, very cool.

Speaker 2 (01:44:25):
Yeah, dude, those are the.
I'm trying to think man vhfcontact um, oh yeah, dude, I
yeah actually.
No, that's an hf one.

Speaker 4 (01:44:36):
I can't use that one I also think talking to eric on
a on vhf is very memorable.
Thanks, when he answers.

Speaker 2 (01:44:46):
Hey, dude, usually I'm around Most of the time I'm
homeward bound, so I'm notalways on the repeater or
whatever.
Oh, yes, I have to say therewas a couple of soda contacts
that I made.
I don't have the call signs andI can't remember them, but the
one was on Mount Washington, wehiked, was it?
Uh, we hiked.
Was that Mount Washington, wehiked?

(01:45:06):
No, it was.
Um, what's the one?
Uh, in New Hampshire where, uh,the ski lodge uh has the tram
that goes up to the top of themountain?
Uh, what mountain is that Loon?
Yes, I, uh we went hiking withthe family in a, you know, last
summer, I think it was, orsummer before that, and I had my
ht and I figured, okay, you'renot going to get that far in a

(01:45:26):
5-2.
And I think I made a contactsomewhere south of, uh, you know
, massachusetts or somewherethere, and I know I have that
one is uh in my log and uh, youknow that was always fun to be
able to be on a mountaintop anddo it over 5-2.
So, yeah, I, I need to do more.
Like I did not hear a singlething.
So Mike's a big VHF, uhf guy.
He did that six meter challengeon 525.

(01:45:54):
I had my radio up and runningall day and I did not make one
contact.
I was so bummed I didn't hearanybody.
I don't know what it was, butthere were a few people in the
New England area that did so.
You know it was good to see.
You know that we were makingcontacts on six meter FM, but I
have not yet made a six meter FMor even a sideband contact.

(01:46:14):
How about you?

Speaker 3 (01:46:15):
Paul, I'm trying to think like I mean VHF.
I guess it'd be a toss-upbetween AF1T Dale and there was

(01:46:42):
a time where I was coming homefrom Gorham those who are not
familiar with New Hampshire, gorham is kind of like the very
northeast kind of it's up there.
It was about a three and a halfhour drive home.

(01:47:03):
I was just a little bit southof the notch, the Frank Cotia
notch.
From the truck I heard astation calling from what I
thought was Mount Washington.
It actually turned out to bethat the guy was on the Ferris

(01:47:24):
wheel at Storyland In Jefferson, new Hampshire.
He was on the Ferris wheel andso we had a quick little cue.
So on my drive home from mytruck south of the notch, to him
being on the Ferris wheel atStoryland and that was just a

(01:47:46):
really cool cue.
So I don't, you know, I don'tremember his call sign or
anything.
I didn't.
I didn't log it cause I wasdriving.
But yeah, that was really coolit was.
It was memorable for sure.

Speaker 4 (01:47:59):
If you want to talk about digital, I did to talk
about um digital.
I did, uh, carlos and I had aour first digital um contact on
america's link on wires x and uh, I was, uh, just driving home
and the repeat the localrepeater that that was someone

(01:48:20):
had switched it to america'slink and he was on there and he
called CQ and I answered him andthen, uh, that was the first
time I talked to him and then wedidn't really know, you know
that it was each our first timekind of doing that, until he
came on our podcast or we wereon some podcast.
I was on with him and uh, he waslike, yeah, that was my first
time.
I totally remember that becauseI was telling him I said, you

(01:48:43):
got to come to Pepperell so Ican work you when he, when he
jumps out of the airplane, I cansit there and, you know, try to
get him.
But yeah, that was kind of cooland you know, again, those were
times when I was just atechnician and I didn't even
know half the things I was doingand getting on being able to
change the repeater from yourradio to change it to whatever,

(01:49:05):
whatever group I wanted, andthen end up talking to him.
So that was pretty cool.
It was just kind of by luck.

Speaker 2 (01:49:13):
Yeah totally yeah, cool, all right.
Well, we got a bunch more.
So if you're in the chat there, you know we still got 20 going
strong, so appreciate everybodywho's hanging out with us.
And you know it got 20 goingstrong, so appreciate everybody
who's hanging out with us.
And, uh, you know it's been ablast.
I love answering questions, youknow, so feel free to ask
anything, and if you want tojust throw it in the chat, just
frame it with uh, you know theword question or ama, and then

(01:49:34):
that way we'll just start tomake sure we get it in the list.

Speaker 3 (01:49:37):
So we got a couple more, so go ahead uh, all right,
so, uh, so you, uh George'squestion here about, uh, ask,
ask him whether or not I wasable to do telehealth with my
therapist.
Um, so, just to just to add alittle context to that, um, if,
if I was in New Hampshire, still, uh, I could do telehealth with

(01:50:02):
my therapist, regardless ofwhere she is, because I am in
the state that I am receivingtreatment.
However, now that I am nolonger in the state that I am
receiving treatment, I am notable to do telehealth.

Speaker 2 (01:50:17):
I love our medical.

Speaker 3 (01:50:19):
Yeah you know, you got to love.
You know whether or notinsurance will pay for it or not
, and that's the whole thingthere.

Speaker 4 (01:50:26):
You can just lie and just tell them you're in New
Hampshire.
They're never going to know.

Speaker 3 (01:50:31):
Well, so I actually I had a conversation with my
therapist about it because I doenjoy, I enjoy talking to her.
She's an Air Force veteran, sothere's a lot of things that
like I'll, I'll throw it outthere and, while she may not
totally get it, like sheunderstands my sense of humor

(01:50:53):
and she understands that likeI'm not being serious sometimes
and when I am being serious, like she gets it so, um, but
anyways, yeah, so because I amin Illinois, um, in illinois, um
, yeah, I can't uh I can't seeher via telehealth at this.
This point yeah, got it.

(01:51:13):
Um, and and and the.
The concern there, right, is ifum say, hypothetically right,
worst case scenario, somethingwas to happen where I I wasn't
right in my own mind, uh, and Iwas struggling in a really,
really bad way, if she needed tosend somebody to come check on

(01:51:35):
me, right, like, if I'm, if Isay I'm in New Hampshire and I'm
not, then she's going to sendpeople to where I'm not Right,
right, and and so that it's,it's, it's a safety thing, and
so I understand it and I get it.
Yep, all right, okay.
Next question Uh, bob coughasks how often, if ever, do you

(01:52:01):
guys run QRP?
If ever do?

Speaker 2 (01:52:03):
you guys run QRP.
What is QRP?
Again, I forgot.

Speaker 3 (01:52:09):
Let's just say, for the sake of argument, it's 20
watts, or?

Speaker 2 (01:52:12):
less, 20 watts or less.
Okay, we framed it the rightway, because if any of you guys
are like it's 10 watts or less,or milliwatts, I don't want to
even talk to you.
Sorry, that's not possible.
Yeah, I know there's somediehards, but yeah, 20 watts.
Uh, I mean fx4cr.
I took, um, and actually I'mjust trying to finish up a video
on that.
I took the fx4cr back out again.

(01:52:34):
Um, it's my beach portableradio and so I wanted to do an
actual beach activation with it.
And the wife was like I need togo to the beach.
I'm like, okay, I need to bringmy radio.
And you know, it was a matchmade in heaven.
And I forgot, man, it was whenthe bands were crap.
And 20 watts does not get youfar at all, no matter how good
your freaking antenna is.

(01:52:54):
You know, I was just like, ohman, I really wish I had 100
watts.
I really wish I had 100 watts,you know.
But I'm warming up to it.
Uh, you know, I I'm gonna takethe like.
I promised all my listeners andsubs that I would take the
fx4cr back under my wing and andwe're gonna work it through its
paces and I'm gonna, you know, start to become, uh, you know,

(01:53:15):
more of a radio that's in therotation there.
So you know, stay tuned withthat.
But uh, yeah, I, I'm warming upto it.

Speaker 4 (01:53:23):
It is a great radio.
I don't the only time I reallyused.
Well, for when I do POTA and Ihear someone call out and
they're saying their QRP, Ialways try to reach them because
if I can hear them I want togive them the contact because
they're working harder than I am, I guess, so kind of partial to
that, than I am, I guess sokind of partial to that.

Speaker 2 (01:53:49):
but um, remember when we were doing the uh ft8 off,
you would get points if you did.
Yeah, lower than what?
Yep, yeah, we all, we alllowered our power.
I bet I lowered.
I actually did.

Speaker 4 (01:53:56):
I didn't cheat, I did too, and then I bump it back up
, but anyway, yeah, and then Iget more points when I was like,
all right, this is cool, but uh, but yeah, that's really the
only time okay, so playing there.

Speaker 2 (01:54:09):
I I know paul has run qrp when he didn't know he was
running qrp, but yeah, 100.

Speaker 3 (01:54:17):
Uh, I have accidentally run qrp um, I I
don't.
I don't run qrp often, um, butthat's because I don't have a
qrp radio and so obviously, if Ihave the ability to run, you
know 80, 80 watts to 100 watts,like that's what I'm going to do

(01:54:38):
.
Yeah, but yeah, there's beenmore than more than a couple
times where, uh, I had the radioset at you know five watts.
Uh, poor iso, poor iso.
Yeah, yeah, no, but hey, listen, iso, iso was a freaking
trooper and a half because hewas like dude, I don't

(01:54:59):
understand.
He's like why aren't peoplehearing?

Speaker 2 (01:55:01):
I know I come to this park all the time.

Speaker 3 (01:55:04):
Well, we were.
We were in a hollow right Forone thing.
So like we're fighting themountains around us, yep, but
five Watts from Connecticut tothe Netherlands, I would say
that that's winning QRP style,oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:55:22):
Five Watts.
That's where you were at.
Yeah, five Watts.

Speaker 3 (01:55:25):
It was probably more like three and a half, but yeah,
yeah, radio was not pushinglike it was like oh yeah, five
watts a suggestion yeah, no, theradio was set to five watts and
so, yeah, that means like, because your sideband, obviously
you're not peaking five watts,you're.

Speaker 2 (01:55:42):
No, you know two, two to three your antenna is like
what are you trying to do to me,man?

Speaker 3 (01:55:46):
come on, this is nothing um, but I, I will say
100 like, uh, because I, I, I dohave the drive to do sodas.
Uh, I want a qrp radio.
Um, you know, I have my heartset on the FX4CR, uh, but I may,

(01:56:07):
I may get uh, the QRP labs, qrmx or whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:56:14):
That's a good radio too.

Speaker 3 (01:56:16):
It just.
I mean it's, it's only I think.
I think it peaks at 10 Watts,Um, but it's, you know, a fifth
of the cost.

Speaker 2 (01:56:26):
So but you know there's not much trade off.
You know I am not going to behauling up a laptop.
I'm probably not going toremember.
You know I have.
I'm an Apple guy when it comesto phones, so I'm not going to
remember to bring my Androidphone up with me to do FT8 on
the FX4CR.
So it's going to be sideband.
So you know you're already inthe right, you know boat, you

(01:56:46):
know, with the QRP Labs oneanyway, and it's probably a hell
of a lot lighter than the FX4CRNot that the FX4CR is a brick,
but it's not.

Speaker 3 (01:56:57):
It's a good radio.
Yeah, it is All right.
So Bob also wants to know.
Uh, all right, so bob alsowants to know.
Uh, he says.
He prefaces his question bysaying that he should probably
already know the answer to this.
But do you guys all live in newhampshire?

Speaker 2 (01:57:17):
yes, yeah paul, paul will never live in mass again he
isn't.

Speaker 3 (01:57:23):
Well, I listen.
My residence is in newhampshire, my my house that I am
paying the bank, the grouch.
My house is in new hampshire.
The grouch command center iscurrently located in illinois
yeah I.

Speaker 2 (01:57:42):
I am not a we'll say say I am not a born and raised
New Hampshire person.
I was born in Mass and, yeah, Idefected as quickly as I
possibly could once I realized Iloved or hated to love the Mass
State.
So I went north and stayed inNew Hampshire and I will never
look back.

Speaker 4 (01:58:04):
Yeah, me too, I was uh 40.

Speaker 2 (01:58:09):
Before Come on, man.
That's the.

Speaker 3 (01:58:12):
Massachusetts.
Oh, okay, I was.
I was trying to find the booingfor Massachusetts.

Speaker 2 (01:58:20):
Nothing against Mike and tortoise overland, but you
know, dude, I'll come visit you,but I won't stay long.
So okay, we got any morequestions.
So again, throw a question inthe chat, just phrase it with
question or AMA.
We'll make sure we get itstarted and keep this train
going.
So again, everything goes.
Guys, you can ask anything, doesn't matter, we'll expel our

(01:58:43):
wisdom on how to run a you knowyoutube channel, or not, or not,
right exactly all right.

Speaker 3 (01:58:53):
So, chris, chris bricker did have a, a comment
that got starred here, and hesaid, uh, that he has never had
anything memorable.
Yet.
I assume he's referring toMike's question on the VHF
contact, but he says the grouchbreaking my cherry is the most,
the only memorable radio event.

Speaker 2 (01:59:15):
I had to start that because he constantly kept
saying how he was making FDAcontacts on 10 Watts or less and
I'm like come on, I know you'rea sideband guy Now you can't
ignore that.

Speaker 3 (01:59:28):
And honestly I mean that was a ton of fun.
Um, you know it was.
It was great to see the, theprogression you know from the
first contact where you know youcould tell he was a little
unsure and he was a littlenervous to.
You know, the 51st contact atthe end of the activation where
professional, yeah, like he wasjust he, he was rolling and like

(01:59:52):
, okay, yeah, all right, contact's over, yeah, qrz, all
right let's go let's get thatpile out all right.

Speaker 2 (02:00:00):
Well, this one's a tough one not a really tough one
, because I think we all sharethe same sentiment.
But go ahead, it's air cat hair.
Do we have to go to that level?
Of course not.
We're all pretty much the baldcrew.
You know we save in.
You know what we save inshampoo we expend in razors, you

(02:00:22):
know.
Does that change your mindsetof us?

Speaker 3 (02:00:29):
no, probably not unfortunately a male pattern,
baldness is a real thing dude,it happened to me at like you
know 20.

Speaker 2 (02:00:38):
I was like, oh crap, oh well, time to shave it, not
Not going back.

Speaker 3 (02:00:44):
Well, see mine at least.
It held off until probablyabout like 32, 33 before it
started to get really noticeable, where even growing it out and
doing the comb over it was likeno, you can see the gaps in the
hair.

Speaker 2 (02:01:05):
Appreciate the blindness there.
Mike, oh, my oh, that's why Iwear hats in your honor, man,
sorry, yeah, dude, I, I.
I had a mentor who was also aham radio operator and boy
Scouts.
He was a bald guy and he alwaysused to use the phrase you know
, this isn't a male, a malepattern baldness, it's a solar
panel for a sex machine.

(02:01:25):
Now I, I don't know whether ornot he was sexually active, nor
did I want to know, but italways kind of stuck in my head.

Speaker 3 (02:01:32):
Yeah, dude, that's an odd thing for a boy scout
leader to say no, not really.

Speaker 2 (02:01:37):
Come on.
You know, come on in this dayand age.
You know you fill in the blanksthere, but uh, yeah, I always,
I always stuck in my head it waswas a great mentor, good hand
radio guy, but yeah, you've saidit once and it always stuck in
my head and I can't get it out.
Obviously it's still there.
So cool, all right.
Well, if you've got a couplemore questions, we're going to

(02:01:58):
keep wrapping up here.
We're getting into the two-hourmark here.
So you know, we definitely wantto keep answering your
questions.
If you got those dire questions, you want to ask about any one
of us or live free.
And ham, feel free.
Mike still got the hair on hishead.
Yes, we noticed that in allyour videos and are quite
jealous, my friend but he saidbut I've coached kids that can
grow the mustache rattles anyonein the.

Speaker 1 (02:02:23):
Anyone in the chat from New York, besides Mike the
mustache rattles.

Speaker 4 (02:02:25):
Is anyone in the, anyone in the chat from New York
besides Mike, other than Mike, other than Mike?
Yeah, because Mike, I wanted totell you that I was in Albany
over the weekend and I didn'thave time to do pod.
I was pretty upset, but I'mgoing to tell you your New York
teams are a bunch of effingcheaters.
Oh boy, here we go.
I don't have the clip.
I pretty upset, but I gottatell you your new york uh teams
are a bunch of effing cheaters.

Speaker 2 (02:02:45):
Oh boy, here we go.

Speaker 4 (02:02:45):
I don't have the clip , get playing here we go, so I
do the scoring for my son'stravel team, do it on this game
changer app.
And I go see these kids andthere's three kids there and
they're like my size and one ofthem has a mustache and they're
supposed to be 12.
And I'm like, why do you havetwo number 23s and two number

(02:03:07):
nines?
A guy's like oh, I don't knowit, just they.
They must've screwed up ontheir jerseys so they, like the
kids, like built in home runs.
They made a fake birthcertificate through AI and
showed the teams that he was 12.
And one of the parents of ateam that they went to the
finals with found their websiteand found out that the kids were

(02:03:30):
14 going on 15.
So what a bunch of cheaters.
It's like it's 12,.
You baseball?
Why are you setting your highschool kids in there?

Speaker 2 (02:03:41):
Doesn't?
Isn't that how they set theprecedence to be?
You become Yankees players.
Yeah, and don't even in there,Isn't?

Speaker 4 (02:03:45):
that how they set the precedence to become Yankees
players.
Yeah, don't even go there.
I'm a Yankees fan.
They don't cheat, they justdominate.

Speaker 2 (02:03:52):
Oh right, is that how cheating equals dominate?
Okay, got it, I understand.
Brooklyn Bombers go boy Go, youbusted Yankees, whatever.
All right, yeah, it's not.
You know, kids, sports man areturning into and Mike.

Speaker 4 (02:04:10):
What I was more worried about was like they're
using these triple s bats andthese things got so much pop.
I was like these kids are goingto swing off this bat and going
to kill one of our teammatesbecause they come off fast and
you know, fortunately no one gothurt.
But I couldn't believe it, andI was.
I asked the coach, I said check.
And he's like you know, ifthey're going to cheat, let them

(02:04:31):
cheat.
You know, we're just here toyou know, to have fun and do
this tournament.
But now that the word got out,I don't know what's going to
happen with this team.
But yeah, they were almost 15years old, crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:04:43):
They dominate the 13-year-old class.
Good for them, what?
Did you say?
They'll dominate the 12U class.
Good for them.

Speaker 4 (02:04:49):
Yeah, I know Way to play down.
I know If we brought our15-year-old kids we would have
smoked them.
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:04:56):
I bet you would.
Hey, brad, I just didn't seeyou there in the chat.
Good to see you, buddy.
Hopefully you haven't jumpedoff 7-3.
Good to see you.
Thanks again for hanging outwith us.
Brad's a good friend of LiveFree and Ham.
He's also a native NorthCarolina transplant, or South
Carolina, south Carolina, yeah,south Carolina.
He's got my 450.

(02:05:17):
I'm quite happy that it's founda good home there.
That was one of my first radiosback in Ham Radio.
I love that little uh 450.
Yezu ft 450 good radio.
The d good, definitely goodstarter radio.
If you're looking into uh, youknow getting into hf, all right,
well, hey, if you got a couplemore questions, so we have uh a
few there in the chat that well,so we got, we got one more

(02:05:41):
start here.

Speaker 3 (02:05:42):
Uh, bob wants to know , paul, where are you in
Illinois?
Are you anywhere close to StLouis, missouri?
I'll be honest, I don't knowhow far away I am from St Louis.
I am currently located inRochelle, illinois.
So if you looked at a pictureof the state of Illinois, I'm at

(02:06:09):
the very top dead center of thestate.
So I'm about, I think, 45minutes to an hour north and I'd
be in Wisconsin.
45 minutes to an hour to thewest and I'd be in Iowa.
So, yeah, I don't.
Five minutes to an hour to theWest and I'd be in Iowa.
Um, so yeah, I don't.
Uh, my geography is, uh, is notthe greatest, so I don't.

Speaker 2 (02:06:31):
I don't know how far away I am from St Louis, but
he's somewhere in the state.
Watch out for the IllinoisNazis.

Speaker 3 (02:06:42):
All I got to say is when, uh, when I leave here and
I head back east, I am.
I am going as far south aroundfucking chicago as goddamn
possible I don't want I don'twant the highway anywhere around
freaking chicago.
God, what a nightmare that was.

Speaker 2 (02:07:06):
That's a space to avoid White knuckle it, and
hopefully your luck is not goingto be the fact that when you
get on the way back, you haverain following you all the way
home.
But yeah, that would suck.
That would be just the way, right?
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:07:23):
I will say I am hoping that while I'm here, I
would like to.
I would like to activateIllinois, obviously, because I'm
in Illinois, put it green.
I would like to activateWisconsin, I would like to
activate Iowa and then, ofcourse, I've got to get Indiana.

(02:07:43):
Maybe a quick stop in Michigan, because I think I can make that
detour and hit a park inMichigan if you're avoiding
Chicago, heck yeah, I might aswell just make a really long
loop around big horseshoe hey, dude, nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 2 (02:08:01):
Just, you know, watch the gas gauge.
So cool dude.
You want to talk about fuel?
Hey, dude, nothing wrong withthat?

Speaker 3 (02:08:07):
Just, you know, watch the gas gauge.
Oh, dude, you want to talkabout fuel.
So I checked my fuel economy, not towing the camper, because I
had to, you know, obviouslyI've had to do groceries and
shit, and yeah, now I get onaverage, uh, 10 to 12 miles in a
gallon.
Oh, not towing, not towing, nottowing, towing, towing the

(02:08:33):
grouch mobile command.
I get seven and a half miles tothe gallon.

Speaker 2 (02:08:42):
You're like a dragster going down the corner
mile man, like they go througheight gallons and you know like
that.

Speaker 3 (02:08:47):
Oh, I am seriously considering getting like a an
extra gas tank to put in the bedof my truck, just so that I can
like fill that up and have thatfeed my primary tank or, you
know, like have a switch in thetruck, you right?
So my second truck that I everowned was a 1988 F-250, and it

(02:09:12):
had dual tanks and I loved beingable to switch between the
tanks.
So I think I need to do thatBecause, yeah, this trailer is
just a giant freaking sail andit just catches all the wind man

(02:09:32):
, that's crazy, all right wellso well, you didn't.
You didn't start it, but uh, Ijust saw in the in the chat
there.
Uh, doug wants to know whattruck I got.
Uh, it's a 2007 Toyota Tundra,a 5.7 liter V8.

Speaker 4 (02:09:48):
There you go.
You should um when you'redriving back, just get behind
like an 18 wheeler and tailgatethem.

Speaker 3 (02:09:54):
Oh God, yeah Right, That'll block all the way that
might work a little bit, youknow although you have to be a
long, you know, draft off thatone to be able to like make it
worth his while, he'd have toride that bumper really close.
Well, no it, todd's.

(02:10:15):
Todd's got a point.
You don't really have to draftall that close, um, but for for
a good part of once I got intothe flatlands right once I got
out of, uh, you know kind ofpennsylvania, ohio area, uh, and
I got into the flatlands.
It was, it was easy to kind ofstay behind the trucks because
the trucks were doing you know70.
Right, um, and so yeah, so Ijust I just stayed behind a semi

(02:10:36):
until he was passing anothersemi and just yeah, follow them,
yeah, yeah definitely, it makesdifference.

Speaker 2 (02:10:44):
Did you do any measurements and just how long
you can actually, you know wearit as a hat, for you know how
many miles before your next exitand how much gas mileage you'll
save.

Speaker 3 (02:10:54):
I will say, okay, so typically.
Now, all right, I'm a paranoidperson, okay.
So when my truck gets to a halfa tank of fuel, I start looking
for fuel, because I don't likegetting below a half a tank, and
so normally that would be likeabout a two hour drive towing

(02:11:17):
the camper.
It's about a hundred miles.
It's about a hundred miles, soI'm stopping every hour, yeah,
wow.
And and there was a couple oftimes where it was it was really
, really tight and I was lookingfor a gas station and I'm like

(02:11:37):
come on, just give me a signthat there's a fricking gas
station, give me a sign thatthere's a gas station.
Give me a sign.

Speaker 2 (02:11:51):
And then it's like okay, shit, I'm down under a
quarter now.
I'm really stressing like dude,I'm sweating roto packs.
Get yourself some roto packs tofill up at least five gallons
so you don't ever have to get inthat super panic mode.
You can, at least, you know, put yourself over the mark to
get to the next.
You, you know, 20 miles away.
That's crazy, wow.
Or, or you know, hey, diesel isthe way to go.

Speaker 3 (02:12:12):
Right, you learned that the hard way.
Yes, yes, uh, for whateverreason, the the gas stations are
not designed for, uh, gasvehicles towing big trailers.
Um, if, if I had a diesel, um,I, I could pull into the truck
areas and I could have all theroom in the world, yeah.
But yeah, there was, there wasa couple of gas stations that I

(02:12:34):
pulled into and I was like fuck, how am I going to get out of
here?
Can't back up.

Speaker 2 (02:12:39):
Can't move around.
Okay, don't take a mirror off, don't strip any paint.
Yeah, I know the feeling.
Yeah, white knuckle scenario.

Speaker 3 (02:12:47):
Oh, dude, ohio, I pulled.
I pulled into a.
Um, it was a pilot and so Ifigured all right, well, it's a
pilot gas station, so it's goingto be big.
Now it was under construction,so half the half the lot was

(02:13:11):
shut down and so only the frontgas pumps were available, and
they were all angled, of course, right.
So, and the way that they wereangled, I had to, I had to like
cut in real hard towards thebuilding and then, and then,
like I'm, I got the truck in thetrailer jackknifed just so that
I could get the truck into thepump.
And then I was like, fuck, all, right, now I gotta like, I

(02:13:33):
gotta cut the opposite wayreally hard and I gotta try and
loop this around so that I don'tcatch the trailer on on the the
concrete pylons that areblocking the pumps.
And yep, yeah, it was, it was.
It was a couple times it wassketchy as all hell, but
fortunately I've been drivingfor a very long time you learn

(02:13:56):
your corners pretty quickly,right?

Speaker 2 (02:13:58):
yep, yeah, oh yeah, cool, all right.
Well, hey, if you guys got anylast minute questions, we're
gonna throw it.
Throw it out there.
Feel free to throw AMA and yourquestion in the chat and we'll
make sure we answer it Again.
This is an open book.
We've been asking Paul a lot ofquestions.
Todd and I have kind of beengetting off scot-free tonight.
I'm pretty impressed.

(02:14:18):
I'm not going to get into mylarge debt that I owe BMG and
capital records for my you knowtape collection in my 80s.

Speaker 3 (02:14:34):
But you know, we'll talk about that at some other
day in the life of you.

Speaker 2 (02:14:37):
know, dude, I fucked over Columbia House at least
three times.
Yeah, they knew me by fourdifferent names.
We'll put it that way.
You know there was always likeI subscribed to 6600.
It was a 6600 or 6400, thehacker's book and we picked that
up and there would always be away to screw Columbia House out
of.
You know the latest, you knowtactics and this is how you go

(02:15:00):
do it.
And you know, hey, dude, thatwas a dawn of the mixtape.
I, you know I was either goodat recording off the radio or I
was good at, like you know, buying.
You know cheap tapes fromcapital records and and all the
other you know stuff to be ableto record the one song I wanted
on a mixtape.
So, all good mike's got aquestion here.

(02:15:20):
Let's throw that there.
We'll.
Uh, oh boy, yeah, you worstantenna, wow oh all right, I
like this question.

Speaker 3 (02:15:29):
Okay, so mike says what is the absolute worst
antenna that you've used butstill made contacts on dummy
load?

Speaker 2 (02:15:46):
no, yeah, yeah, that we've had many stories right,
have you?
No, I, you know, I have notmade a contact on dummy load.
I'll have to say that I havemade.
Um.
What was the first antenna?
Oh, it was the.
Was it 1982 or 1984?
What was the one one MFJ cameout that everybody bought it.

(02:16:06):
It was a piece of junk antenna.
It was 1982.
It was a 40 to 10 N-FED, hadthat little transformer box and
you always had to have it off ofa small little.
You had to counterpoise toactually make it sit in the
right to get less than a 3 to 1SWR.
It sit in the right, you know,to get less than a three, three

(02:16:28):
to one swr.
I, um, when I first set thatantenna up, I, for whatever
reason, when I wired it I had um, the actual nfed wire itself
had come disconnected inside thecase and I didn't realize it
because it was such shoddy madeantenna that I was making
contacts on this thing and Icouldn't figure out why the case
was getting so fricking hotbecause I was literally just

(02:16:48):
pouring any RF into the base ofthe, you know, the transformer
and the Torade inside that, likeantenna, just had enough of a
gap from where it was on thescrew terminal to where the you
know, there was a space.
And it was like I.
I was so frustrated because,like everyone's like oh, it's a
great antenna.
Like you, use that antenna onthe field.
So I took it out with me and Iused it and I was like this

(02:17:10):
sucks.
And then I, you know, broughtit home after a couple of days,
tore it apart and realized thatthere was just no antenna
connection from the Toray to theactual wire itself.
And I was like, so I wasputting like 50 Watts out
through this antenna, heatingthis case up, and at that point
I had no idea whether I friedthe, the antenna or the you know
.
You know it was worth anythingat all.
So, yeah, that was my worstantenna.

(02:17:31):
I would never recommend that toeven my enemy.

Speaker 4 (02:17:34):
You know, that was the garbage antenna hot, hot
garbage well, I made somecontacts without any finals on
field day Yep.

Speaker 3 (02:17:47):
That's not an antenna problem.
Why it?

Speaker 2 (02:17:50):
could have been.
It could have been.

Speaker 3 (02:17:53):
That's not an antenna problem.

Speaker 4 (02:17:56):
Who was hooked up to an antenna.
Good antenna too.
We couldn't figure that one outat all.
That's probably why I was ableto make the contacts.

Speaker 2 (02:18:04):
Dude, yeah, you made Pennsylvania a couple of like
stateside contacts who were likewhy is it that you're not
making contacts?
This is like you're like theradio is great, I don't
understand.
And we're like we're hooked upto my hex beam.
If anything, you should be ableto hear everything, and you're
hearing nothing because you werebarely putting what Bare and

(02:18:26):
nothing because you were barelyputting what?

Speaker 3 (02:18:27):
barely a watt out at that point.
Oh man, that was a bummer.
Absolute worst antenna everready for this one.

Speaker 2 (02:18:31):
Yeah, the buddy pole deluxe dude, you never liked
that antenna when you bought it.

Speaker 3 (02:18:41):
I used that antenna twice and I fucking hated it,
absolutely hated it.
It was a giant pain in the assto set up.
It was a giant pain in the assto get tuned.
I even I bought I boughtadditional clips and all the
freaking things.
It's a pain in the ass to gettuned.

Speaker 2 (02:19:01):
What a piece of shit antenna three minutes well, dude
you've been, you've had a lotof real, you know, seat time
with that antenna for a while doyou remember when?
You first had it, you were likewhy can't this freaking thing
get tuned into the right spotwhen you're trying to do 10
meters or 20 meters?

Speaker 4 (02:19:15):
and then you finally figured out what you needed to
do to make the sweet spot happenyeah, you just move the, yeah,
move the whip up and down andadjust the radial in or out,
seems to work.

Speaker 2 (02:19:29):
Well, yeah, those little clips I subscribe to Paul
, and those little clips theyfucking suck.

Speaker 4 (02:19:34):
Yeah, those clips suck.

Speaker 2 (02:19:35):
What were they thinking Like?
Let's take a small little clipthat you could get lost in the
grass and put it around a verythin wire to make the connection
Not a good design.
Yeah, no, oh good, yeah, allright.
Well, do we buddy?
Sorry, not sorry.
Well, you know, hey, tortoiselittle overland.
Hey, that's the nice luxuryabout having antennas out there.

(02:19:56):
For everyone that hates thisone antenna, there's five that
love it, so all good.
Cool, all right.
Well, hey, if you got any morequestions, like I said, we're

So all right, we'll do one lastround of quick questions.
Anybody got a rapid fire orthey want to.
You know, die hard questions.
They want to throw our way.
Otherwise, you know it's been ablast and we'll kind of do a
little wrap up and catcheverybody else up and, you know,

(02:25:20):
put this bow on this.
For tonight it's been a blastso far.

Speaker 4 (02:25:24):
I gotta go get some dinner.

Speaker 2 (02:25:26):
Yeah, same here B.
I gotta eat too.
I know Paul was eating earlier,I was like shit.

Speaker 4 (02:25:31):
Two and a half hours.
I know Mike.

Speaker 2 (02:25:36):
We definitely have some work to do.
Kevin is our master.
He will have to teach us how welearned a little bit.
Man, he's been putting out somegood videos on QRP stuff.
You know we had him on achannel a long time ago.
He's one of our popularepisodes.
So if you haven't listened tous, go back and listen to him,
because you know we grilled himhard on all of the things you
can tune up.

(02:25:56):
You know, with QRP, you knowimpressive stuff dude.

Speaker 3 (02:26:00):
Every time I watch one of Kevin's videos it makes
me want to buy a G90.

Speaker 2 (02:26:06):
Yeah, exactly right.
If you do, all you have to dois do the combination, the
double combination.

Speaker 3 (02:26:20):
Watch you know, kevin first and then go to Walt's
channel and you're guaranteedthat you'll come out with a G90,
you know, in the next click ortwo.
But the I gotta say I the thebest, the best, absolutely best.
Is it freaking kevin's bicyclethat?
Is his little, his littlebicycle power for his radio.
That is hamgenuity at itsfinest I agreed.

Speaker 2 (02:26:39):
But the one that's close to my heart, man, is the
shovel.
He took out that big giantshovel.
I was like, dude, this is aperfect antenna.
And tuned that freaking thingup and made some damn good
contact.
So I was like, oh man, that'sjust gold.
I still like the trampolineyeah that one was a good one too
, the trampoline was prettyawesome.

Speaker 3 (02:27:02):
The trampoline, the silo, the combine.

Speaker 2 (02:27:04):
Kevin knows how to do it right.

Speaker 3 (02:27:05):
That's the way it goes man, and Kevin actually
knows how to make music.

Speaker 2 (02:27:11):
Yes, Unlike me.
Yeah, the last one.
I didn't get a chance.
I know I saw it on my feed andI didn't get back to it.
I got to go back and watch thatone.
So, yeah, now that youtriggered that thought, I'm
going to go back and look at myhistory.
So good stuff, man, kevin, keepit up.
We, we love seeing your stuff.
And now he's getting into rcplaying so it's almost like, uh,
you know he's going aftertodd's love.

(02:27:31):
Yeah, so, mike, you stillhaven't borrowed and bought
another g90.
I'm really getting to the pointwhere I'm just gonna, like you
know, go to the store, to thestore, send you one, and so you
know you can get back to, likeyou know, doing the things you
love.
Come on, g90s, way to go, man,I'm very grateful, all right,

(02:27:57):
well, bob, it's good to see you.
Man, as always, make sure youemail us, bob, I need to get
your email address.
You know I want to, you know, send you a shirt because we
appreciate all your support andyou know you're the original,
you know, patreon member, so youknow it's all good.
So thanks again for that.
And so let's, you know, put alittle bow on the end of this
one.
So just to kind of wrap stuff up, guys, just remember we've got

(02:28:20):
the 24 hour POTA camp out.
You know, if you want to come, you want to operate, you want to
even be part of it for theweekend, head over to our

if you got an interest, youknow, and if you come in a long

(02:28:40):
way, let us know, because we geta couple extra bunk spaces
between Paul and I and Todd'strailer.
So you know we'd love to haveyou and you can come hang out
with us because you know, dude,we're going to have a blast,
it's going to be freakingawesome.
That's 24 hours of POTAcontacts.
What's better than that?

Speaker 3 (02:28:59):
I will definitely have a bottle of scotch.
Definitely get a little crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:29:04):
I'll bring my favorite beers and I'm sure
there'll be many in tow.
So all good stuff.
And you know, hey, if you comeand you know, maybe there's a
desire, we want to put out acustom shirt.
I'm thinking, you know, wecould put something out there.
You know, come up with somereally cool, you know design
that's, you know something thatwe can carry over a year, over a
year, I mean pretty cool, to doa 24 hour pod every year.
You know, I'm kind of game forit.

(02:29:25):
It'd be fun, it'd be good, socool.
All right, guys.
Well, we had a bunch of peoplein the chat.
I saw Mike, I saw Torres, overland Brad, I mean the list
goes on and on.
Guys, I totally forgot all thenames there and I was starting
to write them down and then Ilost a piece of paper.
So my apologies, but, guys, thank you again for supporting
the channel.
It's been an awesome ride and, again, we love doing this stuff

(02:29:47):
because you guys love listeningto us.
So if you guys got suggestions, you have things you guys wanted
to talk about, we've got somestuff planned in the future with
a couple other YouTubers thatwe're gonna probably have on.
So if you got a couple ofsuggestions, or you want us to
review something.
You want to take a look headover to our Discord?
You can check that out in thelinks in all of our show notes.
And you know, heck, we alwayslove to get do-goods.

We always love to hear fromfolks that are getting, you know
, upgrades in their license.
Or maybe you got yourtechnician?
Let us know, because we want tobe able to celebrate you and
we've been doing that, and sokeep it coming for all those
folks that have already sentthem.
And we got stuff for mailbagbecause Todd gets lonely
sometimes and he likes to fillthat section out.
You know, dude, send him stuff, tell him how much you love his
RC stuff or love of the baseballstuff.

(02:30:33):
Or, you know, you got aquestion for us or how much you
hate it.
Oh yeah, we don't care whateverman you know all good you know,
it's definitely, you know, funto hear from you guys also the
next, the next recording.

Speaker 4 (02:30:45):
That's all I'm talking about.
All he's talking about greatwhat we expect for less.

Speaker 2 (02:30:49):
so, all good, all we're talking about, you know.
And so with that, uh, you know, with, uh, oh, I said, some
extra questions, yes, right, Ithink we think we already
torture him enough with theextra.
You know that.
That that, uh, you know, we'llbe celebrating from the
mountains, and so actually thatwas the other thing too.
We just crossed over 500.
So probably sometime in theJune timeframe, probably before

(02:31:12):
field day, because that's comingup.
Um, you know we'll, we'll doanother live stream and, uh, you
know, heck, we'll, we'll do abig couple of big giveaways.
I know I've been talking toMatt over at Reliance and he's
got a couple of antennas that hewants to throw into the ring
there for giveaways, and I'vegot a couple other stuff from
Mad Dog and a few others.
So we'll just have a big party, celebrate the 500 and continue

(02:31:34):
to grow the channel because, heck, we enjoy doing it, it's
fun, it's a blast.
So let's keep this trainrolling.

those that have continued tosupport us.

livefreeandhamcom forward slashshop, check out some of our new

And Mike, yeah, that might bean option, but we're hopefully
encouraging Todd to get hisextra before September, Because
that's three months away.
He should have enough time toprepare.
He's already been preparing onand off, so that's three months
away.
You know he should have enoughtime to be able to prepare.
He's already been preparing, you know, on and off, so you
know that's a goal.
You know, at this point I wanthim to get his extra before Leah

(02:32:32):
gets her extra.
That's just that's where Istand on this one, and she's
been plowing.
I want to crack down on it.

Speaker 4 (02:32:40):
That'll be the goal before the 24-hour poda.
Down on it.
That'll be the goal before the24-hour poda.
There you go.

Speaker 2 (02:32:45):
Then we'll be able to operate in the extra bands.
