What's in your pockets right now? That simple question reveals volumes about how prepared you are for life's unexpected moments. In this captivating deep-dive into Everyday Carry (EDC), we explore the practical philosophy behind the tools and gear that accompany us through daily life.

Paul, our resident EDC expert, unpacks his meticulously curated pocket setup—featuring everything from spring-assisted knives and refillable lighters to compact multi-tools and emergency communication devices. We discover that effective EDC isn't about carrying items for their own sake, but rather assembling tools that serve specific purposes in your unique circumstances.

The conversation ventures beyond pockets into the realm of comprehensive preparedness, examining first aid kits that range from basic pocket essentials to advanced medical supplies including tourniquets, suture kits, and even Narcan. We discuss vehicle-based systems that utilize MOLLE webbing for organization, specialized tools for outdoor adventures, and communication redundancies for when traditional infrastructure fails.

Throughout the episode, practical wisdom emerges: the importance of water purification methods on wilderness hikes, the versatility of petroleum-based products as accelerants and lubricants, and why you should always have multiple methods for starting fire. Technical gear discussions are balanced with real-world experiences that demonstrate why thoughtful preparedness matters.

Whether you're a seasoned EDC enthusiast or just beginning to consider what you carry daily, this episode offers valuable insights into building systems that enhance your capability to handle both everyday tasks and unexpected situations. Join our Discord community to share your own EDC setups and continue the conversation about practical preparedness in an uncertain world.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Keep us busy.
So with that, let's get intoour highlight of the show here.
It is everyone's favoritesegment, thank you.
And now a little somethingextra with Todd WNSTJ.
All right?

(04:18):
Well, you've heard it here.
This is where we help Todd, ourgeneral, get his study for his
extra class license.
I should say Each episode wepick three questions.
If you haven't figured that outalready and you've been with us
for a long time, just followalong.
You'll eventually pick it uphere, and so you'll probably get
your extra.
Before me, we know two peopleover, and actually what I heard

(04:39):
is Kim is Kim?
He's working on her extra now.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
I talked to him yesterday.
She's at 4% so I got to getcracking.
Yep, she gets her extra beforeme.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
She's being conservative.
She's probably at 20% now atthis point but whatever, yeah,
because we know how she is.
She is very.
Yeah, go get her.
So, anyway, if you'd like tofollow along, you can head over
to hamstudyorg, which is a greatresource to help you prepare
for your test.
And, as paul says, heck fourout of four ve's, because they
are gods, they know, hey knowthat m radio study, m studyorg

(05:11):
is the number one true resourcethat you need to study for all
of your uh, technician, ageneral and a extra license
class test.
So, without any further ado,I'm going to hand it over to the
quiz master.
Take it away, paul.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Oh, oh.
Elon get you yeah, well, no, itwas a big gust of wind.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
The whole trailer was rocking for a moment.
There, this trailer's a-rockin'Paul ain't doing the VE test,
moving along.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
All right, todd.
Question number one for thisevening what should be done to
continue a long-distance contactwhen the MUF for that path
decreases due to darkness?
Should you A change to anantenna with greater beam width,

(06:06):
b change to an antenna with ahigher takeoff angle, c change
to a higher frequency HF band orD change to a lower frequency
HF band?

Speaker 2 (06:34):
I'm going to go with D.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
You would be right, sir.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yes you would be right.
Yay, already better than lastweek.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
One for one.
So for those that don't know,MUF stands for maximum usable
frequency and is affected byvarious atmospheric parameters,
including the day and nightcycle, Even higher frequency
above the maximum usablefrequency and even this is an

(07:14):
emergency alert.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Emergency alert Butting in.
Jason just got his extra.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
Alright.
An even higher frequency abovethe maximum usable frequency
would thus have even worseperformance, and changing the
antenna's parameters wouldn'thelp, as it has nothing to do
with propagation.
Thus, the best solution is toswitch to a lower frequency.
All right, here we go.

(07:41):
Question number two Alright, here we go.
Question number two whichtrigger mode is most effective
when using an oscilloscope tomeasure a linear power supply's
output ripple?

Speaker 2 (08:13):
Is it A edge, b single shot, c line or D Level?

Speaker 1 (08:19):
I'm going to go with.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
C Line, I would say C Stu.
Yeah, eric the.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Cheater Is that the.
Iceman yeah, I didn't even knowwhat is he doing.

Speaker 3 (08:35):
We've had this one before, but for those that have
not caught an earlier episodewith this question, a line
trigger is useful when measuringpower supplies, inverters and
rotating machinery that are linefrequency dependent.
So test hint measure a linearpower supplies output ripple,
where linear contains the wordline.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
You got to get this one, eric, for the third and
final question.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Don't get it wrong, no pressure.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Read it.
Oh.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Uncle Elon killed him and win.
You're not even hearing it.
Oh okay, question number three.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Todd, it was such a great question.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
What happens when the level of a comparator's input
signal crosses the thresholdvoltage?
Is it A the feedback loopbecomes unstable.
B the reference level appearsat the output.

(09:45):
C the IC level appears at theoutput.
C.
The IC input can be damaged.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Or D the comparator changes its output state.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
I like how they use comparator in the question as
the answer.
Oh man, I always get this onewrong.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
I'm going to go with B Level of comparator.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
I think it was C, although I feel like it was A.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
It's not A.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
It's definitely not A .
It's definitely not A.
I'm going to go with C then.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Well, all right.
Todd said D.
Nice job Great job no salttonight.
A greater than less than teston two voltages, one of which is
often a fixed voltage reference.
When the input signal crossesover the threshold, the output

(10:57):
goes high.
When it crosses below thethreshold, the output goes low.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Thus the comparator changes his doubt bravo, nice
uncle elon.
Last week I was 0 for 3.
This week I'm 3 for 3 batting athousand nice job no, I'm
batting 500.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Okay, yeah, you're gonna count.
Last week, hey, I wasn't there,so I'm saying you're batting a
thousand, so take it all right.
Well, without any further delay.
Actually, I already said thatone.
So, without any of your journeyto studying your technician
general extra class license, hamstudyorg is an awesome
resource for getting your ticket.
And, paul, do we have anylatest updates, either coming in

(11:53):
from email or anything likethat, with anybody upgraded at
all?
Damn Elon Paul, anyone.
He just zapped him.
He's gone.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
He was like Bertie Carey just then.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Do I need to repeat the question?

Speaker 3 (12:15):
No, I posted it in the Discord.
Oh, I have all the Discord.
Okay, okay, okay.
Congratulations to LisaBuescherer.
Uh, kilo, charlie won whiskey.
Romeo, bravo, just got issuedher technician license.
It's probably boucher, boucherbobby boucher, boucher lisa let

(12:39):
us know, is it?

Speaker 2 (12:39):
boucher or boucher.
I'm voting on boucher, Lisa.
Let us know Is it Boucher orBoucher?
I'm voting on Boucher.
Go ahead All right.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Well, as always, we appreciate everybody, and Lisa
too as well, for congratulatingyou for getting your technician
license there.
And so you know, as always youknow if you've gotten your
upgrade or maybe you just gotyour technician first time.
You can always email us atlivefreeandham at gmailcom, or
you can send a win link, or youcan hit us on discord and let us

(13:09):
know and we'll be make surethat we'll mention you at our
next episode, because we want tocelebrate with you and have
some fun and uh, you know, giveyou the credit for all the hard
work you did to put in, uh, toget your uh, you know upgrade or
your first license.
So, all right.
So with that, we're gonna divefull horse into how's our ham
radio week?
Uh, paul, how's your memoryweek?

Speaker 3 (13:30):
going mud uh well, so let's see, I didn't really do
any ham radio this week, allright all right, thanks for
playing this.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
One's a really shortest episode on the planet.
Bye, sorry.
Sorry for those folks that arelooking for that four-hour
episode.
We are not it today.
Maybe, I don't know.
We haven't gotten to our actualtopic tonight, so, hey, it
could go quite a while, I'm sure.
Oh, all right, well, todd overto you, my friend.
How, how was your hammer hamradio week if you had one?

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, it wasn't very active.
A couple of chats on therepeater, and I did, though,
clean out my shack and got allmy ham radio stuff down in the
basement on three shelves.
That's labeled ham radio, sonow I don't have it walking
around my shack, so it's cleanedup a little bit.
That was chakram Yep, so now Idon't have it walking around my

(14:26):
my shack, so it's cleaned up alittle bit.
Yeah, so it's.
It's just stuff that you know Ineed to get to, but I don't
need it every day, and it's justpiling up on the floor.
So, uh, yeah, did that.
That's about it.
I just haven't had time to uhget out there.
I'm hoping, uh, this week'sgonna be super busy, but next
week and the following week itshould be uh, calm down a little
bit.
Beginning of the month, I'llhave some time to work on some

(14:49):
podo activations.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
Thank God we don't have a chief summarizer in chief
, as they go through all of ourepisodes and summarize how many
times Todd says he has more timenext week, because I feel for
you, buddy.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
I may not, because this freaking rain is just
killing me?

Speaker 1 (15:08):
You know, I went out and activated in the rain.
You tell me.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
No, it's not the activating in the rain, it's the
other things that getrescheduled because of rain.
I'm not going to tell you.
I don't want to hear it.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
You don't want to hear tales from the diamond.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
All right, screw it.
Listen the black flies shoutout to them u12, they won, would
I say 26 to 4 today.
26 to 4, throw two hours up tomain and sorry, we had five home
runs.
We had one kid hit three homeruns, one of them a grand slam,

(15:45):
and another kid hit his firsthome run, which was a grand slam
, and we did this all in fourinnings.
So you want to talk about anass-kicking?
That's an ass-kicking.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
That's how you deliver one, yeah, signed,
sealed and delivered.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Yeah, the kids did awesome.
They were having a lot of fun,of course, and the other team
wasn't so much, but good forthem, it was worth it.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Welcome to another Tales of the Diamond.
I talk.
You want to be with us, tj.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
If it was the other way around, I wouldn't be happy,
because it was five hours ofdriving today.
That's a lot of driving to gethere In the rain for one game.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
I know I've been in those days and those days suck.
Those are the dark days.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
We got a game Tuesday and then a doubleheader
Saturday, a doubleheader Sunday,all home.
Tuesday's game is London Dairy,so it's local.
There you go, eric.
Go ahead.
Let everyone know that you gotmore on the rail trail.
I saw your stupid hand diary.
It's kind of like he's justlike digging it into me like I

(16:53):
gotta get more that was myultimate goal, my friend.
Sorry, I just had to give you agood ribbing you know what's
going to happen is I'm going togo up to 999 dude.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
I am trying to push you there.
I am literally just short ofdriving out there and pretending
or masquerading as W1STJ onactivation.
Yeah, so, as Todd alluded to, Igot bored.
I wouldn't say I got bored, Igot tired of work and life and
was like, screw this, I'm goingto head over to the rail trail

(17:25):
and, uh, activate and um, youknow, it was actually one of the
days last week which was thetypical new england boston type
days where it's 70 degrees andthe windows are rolled down and
you're having your donkeys butthen the weekend's sucking, it's
rain all weekend.
Um, I got that chance toactivate on was it monday or
tuesday and I made a quick videoof it.

(17:45):
But at the same time, the bandsyeah, the bands I knew were
going to be crap.
It was kind of like, as Paulsaid, the sun was angry and,
yeah, you know there's not muchyou can do with that and you
just kind of have to roll withit.
I think I actually made aninteresting.
My first contact actually wasin Ham Diariesaries I don't know
if you caught that.
That was with um ac1rh.

(18:05):
Um, why am I forgetting hisname?
Oh, my gosh.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
yeah, keith yeah, he, uh, he was activating in new
hampshire too.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
He was just north of me and so he was like it was all
envis, it was crazy.
I was just like, uh, dude, I solike he had a big pile up and I
texted him like, dude, I'mdoing park to park to you and
like, and then all of a suddenhe's like, oh hey, cool, I got
you on park to park.
And then so we, you know, weexchanged pleasantries and had
fun with it and you know it wasgood.
But yeah, the bands were just, you know, 20 meters was really

(18:35):
tough, I couldn't.
10 was dead, 17, 15.
I was just like calling, calling and nobody responded and
so I just figured okay rememberlast spring I I did 20 meters
and I didn't get far.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
The farthest I got was new york and connecticut.
Everything was local in 20meters.
Yeah, like it was like younormally don't get those in 20
meters.
I was like what the hell'sgoing on here?

Speaker 1 (18:59):
yeah, I mean it's, it is it sucked, to be honest?
But you know how many did youget?
12, 12, I.
I had to get at least 10 toactivate and I ended up getting
a 2 for random.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
How many do I have to do to get tied up with you?
Good?

Speaker 1 (19:14):
question.
I didn't actually learn that130.
Let's pull up the old Potaapppage there.
Type here Everyone's going to betalking about how great the
bands are one day and I'mcalling out sick- I can't log in
on this page, but yeah, I'll beat the red track 9, 12 or
something like that.

(19:35):
Yeah, you got a bit to go, butno big deal.
I'm just going to do a littlehere, a little there, because
the bands just suck and I'm onlygonna be able to get like 10 or
12 here, and then I'll stop ata period and let you catch up,
because what you got probablylike at least 107 from one day,
right yeah, if I take the dayoff, I'll just sit there all day
you heard it here, folks and gofishing.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
Yeah, the band suck.
I just set it up right by thepond.
I'll sit there and call CQ andfish at the same time.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
Yeah, I keep forgetting to bring my fucking
antenna.
What?

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Eric, it's 921.
Todd's got 807.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
You better stop.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
I will, don't worry, I've not got crossover.
No, I don't.
We are going to go hand-in-handover into 1,000 together.
This will be us walking offinto the sunset holding hands
for you, going with our 1,000kilo rail trail.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
I mean.
So Todd's at 23 activation,you're at 24.
So if Todd does one moreactivation to get caught, up,
then you activate together tofinish it off.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
That's possible.
The angry sun.
It may not happen that way, butwe might have to do that in
several sessions, because Idon't think I have the time to
sit for four hours trying to get20 or 30 contacts.
Uh, yeah it it was.
It was tough, but yeah, and Idid it on my atas and so that
was just a compromised antenna.
The one thing I wish I broughtwas my wolver coil in a loaded

(21:10):
vertical, you know, set up,because I haven't tested my
bumper mount yet.
Um, you know, outside of theone video I did.
Oh, there we go.
Yeah, those are watching.
Uh, who are on the podcast?
Uh, only audio version.
Todd is sorry.
Todd, paul is showing us thestats there and it's neck and
neck man.
Nice, who's the next closestperson?

(21:32):
Is WC or was it W?
I?

Speaker 3 (21:35):
can't read that call Whiskey 2, November Romeo.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
With only like 500?
510.
So got a little while to goCool.
Well, outside of that, the onlyother thing I did this week
which was uh pretty fun to do,we uh did, as our club, a um
outreach, kind of communityoutreach a youth group uh at a
local church had reached out to,or one of the, I guess, the

(22:01):
pastors.
A ham radio operator reachedout to us and and said, hey,
would you come teach all theyouth about ham radio?
And we're like heck, yeah.
And so it was myself, um Ralphand Tim and Kimmy, and we all
set up and you know, literallywe had probably 20 people there,
including a couple of adults,um, probably like 12 kids or
teenagers, and all of them loveto get on their freaking radio.

(22:23):
I mean it was.
It was great to see all of theseyouth, um, you know, grabbing
the radio, having a conversationand not being shy.
I mean a lot of the boys werejust like hey, having, you know
I don't know who they weretalking to.
I think they were talking toanthony at one time because he
was on, uh, you know, the n1imo,yeah, n1imo repeater system and
you know they were havingconversations back and forth and

(22:44):
a few uh, parents did and I gota chance to talk to a couple
other guys about poda and sodaand yeah, it was just, it was
fun and you know, all the girlsI mean even some of the guys all
learned their name in CW.
You know, learn Morse code todo their name in CW.
So it was, uh, it was a good, good event.
You know, lasted about threehours and and then headed on
home and spent the rest of theday indoors because the rain

(23:07):
sucked.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
That was my weekend.
Be ready for lots of soda comeJune and July.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Yeah, dude, trust me, I am amping up my hiking legs
and working a couple of the backtrails as much as I can.

Speaker 2 (23:24):
He's walking up and down from the first floor to the
second floor, the second floorbasement up down up there,
that's his soda.
He goes up to his bedroom andthrows a wire out the window up
up out of soda I'm up at 300feet here, according to my watch
.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
So, yeah, no, I'm definitely trying to do a couple
of back trails and I've beenjust doing, you know, a couple
of hours here and there just toget my legs back under me and,
uh, you know, looking forward todoing the four thousands once
you finally get back this waywell, we'll have to figure out
two.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
You know, radios and antennas.
Well, I I think it's great tobring two radios, two antennas,
two batteries, like we couldminimize our gear.

Speaker 1 (24:09):
Yeah, there's not a real need to do N plus one with
that case especially if we testit before.
To the extent yeah, only ifwe're gluttonous.

Speaker 2 (24:21):
Listen, just build a thing for.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Watson, watson to carry it.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
He'll carry it, put it on a sled or something.
He'll just drag it up thosemountains.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
Alright.
Well, anyway, I gotta gothrough some of my crap here.
So, outside of that, we got aninteresting topic tonight.
We alluded to it a coupleepisodes before.
Um, you know, uh, last week'sepisode, I actually know even
last week's episode paulmentioned it too as well um, so
I appreciate, uh, you know, uh,remember, let folks remember
that.
So we're gonna talk edc tonight.

(24:58):
And so, um, paul, as we all know, is our you know guy who has
literally everything andanything for every situation
possible under the sun, almost,I would say probably like he's
99.99, I think it was like six, six, nines or like whatever is
like almost a hundred.
But, uh, yeah, he, uh, he'sgonna take the reins over

(25:18):
tonight and he's gonna talk alittle edc.
I've got some edc stuff that uh, I'm been acquiring, as he
mentioned in the last episode.
I'm feverishly running out andbuying on Amazon, everywhere and
anywhere.
So, yes, I have been doing thatactual thing, and so I've got a
couple of things to add to thatlist, but I'm sure he's got way
more.
So I'm going to kind of give upthe reins here and give it up,

(25:42):
so willingly, go ahead, mr EDC.
Master reigns here and, and, uh, you know, give it up, so
willingly go ahead, mr.
Uh, you know edc master well.

Speaker 3 (25:49):
So uh, I I gotta say all right.
So first off, I think the theprimary tenet of anything
related is you carry it becauseit's useful, not not because you
carry it just to carry it Right.
So the things that I carry maynot be useful to everyone, the

(26:10):
things that other people carrymay not be useful to me.
So kind of keep that in mindand I guess here we'll switch to
the workbench.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
Ooh, it's fancy.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
So now you can take a look at.
This is my pocket doll.
All right, so in my rightpocket I always keep.
This is the Kershaw Osospring-assisted knife.
Very nice, three-inch blade orfour so it's a three-inch blade,
okay, nice, it's nice and thinand it's it's real lightweight.

(26:51):
I beat the hell out of thisknife.
I just keep sharpening it.
It's great um means of fire,it's always important.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
This is a clipper mini no, no, uh, zippo guy,
you're not a zippo guy well, sohear me out.

Speaker 3 (27:06):
So I used to carry a zippo every day, all day.
Every day I was all zippo andthen I found these, and so this
is a refillable, reflintablebutane lighter.
So, uh, and it's really small.
For example, here's a full-sizeBic for comparison.

Speaker 2 (27:28):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
So it's really small, but when the flint dies, you
pull it out and you can changethe flint.
When the fluid runs out, youcan refill the fluid in the
bottom.
So I really fell in love withthese lighters.
I highly recommend them.
Where did you get it?
Well, alright, so I did justsign up for our Amazon affiliate

(27:53):
links.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Oh wow you can have those in the description.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
I will put a list of links together.
While it's no savings to you,we do make a small commission
off together.
While it's no savings to you,we do make a small commission
off of it.
So it'll be appreciated.
I also carry a BIC, because youjust can't beat a BIC and one
method of fire is never enough.
See, I don't carry one.

(28:22):
Okay, interesting, alright.
So another thing I always havein my pocket is the Carmex
chapstick that I carry the tube.
Now there's multiple reasonsfor this, so this is a petroleum
based product, so if you need afire starting accelerant, it's
great for that.
It's also great for a lightlubricant if you need it, and

(28:45):
it's good for chapstick.

Speaker 1 (28:47):
Please elaborate.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
Well, all right, in a bind, right say, you get two
pieces of metal.
You know whether it's yourtruck or your trailer or
something that you've got withyou.
Two pieces of metal rubbing oneach other.
You don't want the friction, soit's a good substitute
lubricant.

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Have you seen my wiener?

Speaker 3 (29:18):
So the other thing that I keep in my right pocket
is a Gerber vice.
Oh nice, it's a really smallset of pliers.
Yeah, multi-tool, yep, yep,it's got a short little knife.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
So I always ask the question obviously everybody
loves the Gerbers, everybodyloves the multi-tools Like I
never see anybody carrying likea Swiss, like like knife at all.
Like why didn't you go thatroute?
I mean, it's pretty much kindof, I mean outside of the pliers
part, well, actually, no, they, they have scissors, but yeah
well.

Speaker 3 (29:53):
So uh, mike into mak.
He's all about the swiss.
Honestly, I got this years agoin um, kind of like a tack-pack
battle box kind of subscriptionservice.
It was called Crate Club andthat was how I ended up with it

(30:14):
and I just loved it.
I ended up getting a second one, so I've got a spare in case I
lose it or break it, but it'sreally handy to have in your
pocket.
You know you can get the littletools break it.
It's really handy to have inyour pocket.
You get the little tools on it.
Another thing is a writinginstrument.
This is a pen.

(30:35):
It's a write-in-the-rain pen.
It pulls out fully.
I used to use the space pens.
They're about the same size, but they're made out of aircraft
aluminum.
You can write upside down orwhatever with them, but I found
that because of the weight ofthe space pen, it tended to

(30:57):
slide out of my pocket.
So the write-in-the-rain pensdon't do that.
They're a little bit lighterand weight is everything when
it's in your pocket.
The last thing in my right-handpocket is the Special Forces
chip Challenge coin Beer chip.
Yeah, from Thailand.
This was given to me by a VFWcommander back in like 2011 or

(31:21):
so, by a VFW commander back in2011 or so.
It's really cool that it's alegit beer chit for the Special
Forces Safe House in Thailand.
Wow, very cool.
Yep, that's my right pocket.

Speaker 1 (31:37):
Right pocket.
Okay, I see a bunch of morestuff on the left-hand side too.
Now, I assume you're just likea jeans kind of guy wearing or
you got like a.
You know the typical uh, youknow camera, not what.
No, what am I thinking of?
A utility kind of style?
You know shorter pockets in thejeans or what's that kind of
look for you?

Speaker 3 (31:56):
So I'll actually say my absolute favorite pair of
pants are the Wrangler ruggedpants.
So they're uh, they're acarpenter pant, but they've got
lots of pockets.
They're a real durable canvasmaterial.
The knees are alldouble-layered canvas.
They hold up to a lot of abuse.

(32:18):
They wear well, they'recomfortable.
I'll put a link to those too.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
And his size, if you want to buy him a pair.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
Yeah, flashlight.
This is the newest version.
It's the StreamlightMicroStream USB.
You pull the front out.
You actually have your USBcharging slot there, and so it's

(32:50):
a micro.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
It's not a.

Speaker 3 (32:51):
USB-C.
It's micro USB, but it's kindof cool that I don't have to
carry spare batteries.
I can charge this off any of mybattery banks, but you can
throw a AAA battery in it aswell if you need to.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
I always have a flashlight in my pocket so can I
just pause for a second andshow you this little flashlight
I got, so it's an old light, andtake it off.
The this piece yeah, it's likea magnet.
And take it off.
The magnet oh yeah, it's like amagnet.
And then it lights up, right.

(33:29):
So you got light, put it on, itturns off.
The way you charge it is.
Take this little, if you cansee this rubber thing, and then
you just plug it into USB.
Oh nice, it charges.
So it's pretty awesome.
And it's super tiny I mean,it's like an inch.
Yeah, it's wicked small.

(33:51):
Yeah, it's great for the pocketWallet.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
You run any, yeah, is it just?
Oh, okay, got it.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
Yeah, it's a Ridge, it's rfid protecting.
I mean, as you can see, it'sfull of dents and it's been beat
.
Uh, I've had this, I've hadthis wallet for years.
Um, well, worth the money I've,I've uh I translate I
transitioned from a billfoldright, we all carry billfolds to

(34:25):
a pocket wallet, probably about10 years ago, and I love it
because it stayed in my back.
I have a lot of lower backproblems.
Having a wallet in my backpocket is not comfortable.
So having the front wallet iskey.
Plus, it's a little bit harderfor somebody to steal your
wallet than your front pocket.
That is key.
Plus, it's a little bit harderfor somebody to steal your

(34:45):
wallet than your front pocket.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
That is true.

Speaker 3 (34:51):
I also.
I keep a YubiKey, my spareYubiKey.
I keep that in my pocket incase I lose my YubiKey and I
need to get at my password.
It works NFC to my phone.

Speaker 2 (35:05):
All my passwords are.
It works NFC to my phone.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
I have one of my passwords.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Yeah, so I have one of those UB keys for work that
just I plug it into my laptopand it lets me.
I put in a four digit pin andthen touch it and it opens up my
computer.
What do you do?
Can you store stuff on that?

Speaker 3 (35:26):
So the way that I have it set up is I have it so
that the long chain code is whatunlocks my Bitwarden, and so I
use.
Bitwarden as my password locker, and so then I have Bitwarden on
all my devices.
It's just that extra layer ofsecurity where I'm not storing

(35:47):
any information in any browsers, ever, anywhere.
I'm not storing any informationanywhere other than in that one
specific app Bitwarden.
I've been the unwillingparticipant in several hacking
scams.
Yeah, so I learned the hard waySecure your information, have a

(36:13):
backup, do your backup.
One of the other things that Ialways think is important is
having a Sharpie.

Speaker 1 (36:21):
Interesting why.
I'm always curious why peoplecarry Sharpies.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
You never know Like when you need to mark something,
it's handy to have a sharpieokay, I yeah, maybe it just
interesting.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
I'm curious to see how this differs from, say, your
bag versus your edc in thetruck, like you have like a lot
of crossover to that stuff likewell, so all right.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
So in the truck Do you have a lot of crossover to
that stuff?
Well, so alright.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
So in my truck I've got a lot of everything, Right,
but is it duplicate to what youcarry in your pocket or is your
pocket very unique?
That's always my question withEDC was is like when I was
thinking about what I want tocarry, there's duplicates to
almost everything.
Okay, alright.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
Yeah, like, um, you know, I've I've got extra
flashlights everywhere, I'veI've got extra Sharpies
everywhere, zip ties and pliersand tools.
Yep, the, uh, I, I go with thebigger Gerber, suspension Gerber
right, yeah, I got that one inthe truck.
Yep, I keep.

(37:26):
I keep a curb or suspension onmy photo bag.
I keep one in the truck.
I keep one, a little one, in mypocket hmm, yeah, it's just the,
you know, having having thesethings available to you, right
and then well, actually, so hereI.
I guess I skipped over the mostimportant piece of EDC, which

(37:48):
is the Glock 43X.

Speaker 1 (37:52):
In most states.
You mean yes?

Speaker 3 (37:54):
yes, in states that it's legal.
So this is a Taguainside-outside.
So if you're carrying it insidethe waistband, you get the clip
Inside outside.
So if you're carrying it insidethe waistband, you get the clip
.
You can also run your beltthrough, carry it outside and
carry it in multipleconfigurations.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
That's a nice holster .

Speaker 3 (38:16):
Is it clipped in there?
There's no mag holder, ifthat's what you're asking you
can't use the word clip.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
People hate the word clip.
No, no, no.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
No, I'm saying, does it snap in?

Speaker 3 (38:30):
Yeah, there's positive retention here.
So this is a thumb brake.
So when the gun is in it, youpress it to the side and it
unclips.
But yeah, block 43X, it's niceand thin, it's a single stack
magazine.
It doesn't carry a lot, I thinkit's 10 plus 1.

(38:54):
But I do carry extra magazineswith me as well.
I have one extra magazine thatI keep in the truck and I keep
an extra magazine on me.
Yes, everybody can see it'ssafe, it's empty totally.
We wouldn't expect anything lessfrom the great N1OG if there's

(39:18):
anything that I can pass onabout firearms, firearm safety
is the number one, because it'sa tool, a tool for self defense,
a tool for keeping yourselfalive and ending the life of
somebody else, and that's neverso.
It must be used properly, because a hammer is also a tool,

(39:39):
but if you bag somebody overthe head with it, it's going to
do the job do you have anythingyou want to throw in that mix
for on person todd um, yeah, well, he carries more than I do.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
Uh, I have a similar.
I used to have a rich wallet, but then I was always misplacing
my wallet.
My wife got me, uh, an appletag, so I bought now, this was
before ridge made an Apple tagone.
I got a very similar one.
It's, I mean, it's exactly.
It just doesn't say Ridge on it.
But I look at the two, the oneI actually got I think is even

(40:18):
built better, but just opinion.
But it has an Apple tag kind ofI can put into it Front pocket
carry, carry my keys to my car, front pocket carry, um, carry my
keys to my car.
And, um, I always carry my, uh,my work badge with me 99% of the
time, especially like I leaveit in my car or if I go in some.

(40:39):
If I don't drive, then I takeit with me.
Yeah, um, and uh, a pen, thatpen, um, what is it?
It's a pen that we got or I got.
I carry that little tiny one.
Things off light.
Yeah, the old light pen.
It's got a mine's got a pencilon the back, so it's like a

(41:01):
pencil slash pen either way.
And um, yeah, I throw that inthere too.
And then my little flashlightthat I showed.
That's typically what I havenow in my car.

Speaker 1 (41:12):
I have like a pouch that has more detailed stuff
we'll get into the cars in asecond because we've got some
different stuff there, butthat's just that's just my
pockets yeah, the only thing Ithrow in my pockets that I
didn't see you guys do is, Imean, obviously I it's kind of
an iffy thing I have the writein the rain notebooks just for

(41:32):
quick notes and stuff like that.
Most of my stuff is digitalanyway, but I have those just
kind of in the back pocket whenI need to write something.
And then the other thing is Ipicked up these black I mean.
They come in multiple colors.
They're like the neoprene kindof detail rags, but they're not.
They're more like a typicalscarf or handkerchief or

(41:56):
something like that, withbasically sweat with the wick
technology in it.
And I love these things becausethey literally have the shelf
life and I keep a bunch of themin my truck, I keep a bunch of
them in my back.
I keep a bunch of them, youknow, in my back pocket or you
know in my jacket, um andwhatever, with me, so I always
have them.
And then, uh, you know theother knife although, like

(42:17):
Paul's knife, I have one ofthose and I love that knife Um,
but my dad bought me this one umfor Christmas and it's called
an M tech.
I don't know if you guys everheard of this.
I'm not a big gold guy, but Ithink I know why my dad bought
me.

(42:37):
It in gold was because when Iwas in high school I was a big
fan of gold and I had a goldwatch when they gave it to me,
which is, you know, back in thelate 80s.
So you know, everything wasgold.
Um, I've got one of those too, bling, bling, baby, pretty much.
But like I mean, that's atypical spring-loaded knife and
you know, it's a three and ahalf, about three, inch blade
and it's a little different thanI'm used to.
Because I like paul's knife.
I mean that knife I gave to mydaughter because, you know, she

(42:59):
likes knives too.
So I'm gonna, you know, pass iton if I can.
This one's got a couple likeextra features that I don't
think I'd use, like the bottleopener opener.
It's got a you know screw tippoint on it that you know you
can kind of use as a flat blade.
Um, I'm still kind of gettingused to it.
I like I said I like this.
I like, you know, paul's knife.
It's just way better.
I have it in blue, um, and I I'malmost, at this point, you know

(43:22):
, kind of thinking maybe I'mgoing to put this in another bag
and then, uh, you know, go backto my other knife that my
daughter has because she hasn'tused it much, and so I think I
might, uh, you know, claim itback.
But uh, yeah, I love that.
That's got a way betterbalanced blade, it's got a way
better, you know, you knowspring loaded, you know
mechanism and I just, you know,I have more fun with that knife
than I do with this one rightnow.

(43:43):
But you know, one of my dadgave me a good one too as well.
So it's, I guess it's aveteran-owned company that he,
he knows a couple people thatdevelop these.
So he bought my brother and Iwon for christmas.
So I forget, yeah, sure, whynot?
I'll just try it out andshuffle it around if I need to.
I guess what?
You can never have enoughknives, as they say you can
never have enough.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
I'm a little bit of a knife collector.
I've got a.
I found my favorite knives are,um, spyderco, um, I have, um, I
forget what it's called butjust a regular size one that I
use all the time.
And then I got a little minione.
It's like almost the same thing, but it's mini size and it's

(44:24):
great for like putting in yourpocket with, like your change
and everything else, but forlike putting in your pocket with
, like, your change andeverything else.
But you never know when youneed a knife, so I always have
one on me.
More for if I have to cutsomething or I mean you know,
it's like you always have aknife, but the spider coat ones
with the blades on them, I meanthey're all different kinds,
like the more expensive you get,but they're all pretty, they

(44:44):
come super sharp and they'reeasier.
Some Some of the tougher.
I was going to ask you aboutwhat.
What do you use for a knifesharpener when you say you keep
sharpening?
Just use a stone, or do you useanything?

Speaker 3 (44:57):
I use a.
I use a stone, just with theoil, just a wet stone Spit on it
.

Speaker 1 (45:05):
Yeah, I do.
I used to do that when I wasyounger.
I had the time.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
I know, yeah, dude, I used to do that.

Speaker 3 (45:16):
When I was younger I had the time.
Yeah, I was the sharpest, sharpest, sharpest knife in my
knives all the time.
Well, so hear me out, right?
So if I'm gonna watch a 15minute youtube video, perfect
time.

Speaker 1 (45:24):
Sit there, you grab your stone now I have this vivid
image in my head every time.
Paul's watching YouTube.

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Aren't you supposed to use a little bit of oil on
that?
Not oil.

Speaker 1 (45:38):
You can just use spit .
It doesn't matter, you don'twant to use spit, but yeah,
trust me.

Speaker 3 (45:49):
You're not going to hawk a loogie on your stones.

Speaker 1 (45:52):
Trust me In Boy Scouts.
I tell you how many kids that Iwas like.
You know.
Hey, we're sharpening ourknives.
And they're like watch this.
And they're like oh, dude, you're just going to gum up your
nut.
Oh, it was gross.
I was like I'm not touchingyour stone, just stay away from
me.

Speaker 2 (46:05):
Have you seen those?
Like the roller stones, nowthat they have, it's like a
whole thing, like it's supposedto be, like precise, and you
can't screw it up.

Speaker 3 (46:14):
So that's actually that's a really old technology,
I know, and it doesn't work verywell.
Yeah, but they have a rollersharpener from like 1912.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
And it still works.
Yeah, there's really not muchto them.

Speaker 2 (46:31):
Now what about those little portable ones where you
kind of slide the knives throughlike you can have junk right?

Speaker 3 (46:40):
Listen, so hear me out.
Okay, if you're just looking toput a fresh edge on it and it's
not damaged in any way, thoseare fine, right, you just clean
up your edge and put a freshedge on it and it's not damaged
in any way, those are fine.
You just clean up your edge andput a fresh edge on it, it's
fine.
But if you've got any damage toyour edge at all, you're just

(47:00):
going to damage the freakinglittle sharper thing.

Speaker 1 (47:03):
Yeah, you're just going to gouge the blade at that
point and just mess things up.
Totally Not worth it at all.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
Well, if you ever go, like on Amazon, look for knife
sharpeners, there's like athousand different ones,
different brands there andyou're like, yeah, but some of
those little tiny ones you knowyou can just slide it Like if
you're out in the woods orwhatever and you're hiking and
your blade's dull, you need tosharpen up real quick.
It's not a bad thing to havewith you.

Speaker 3 (47:32):
Well, so I mean, dude , I've got small stones that
I've gotten with the fixed bladeknives before.
Yeah, I keep a couple of thesmall stones around.
If you've got a, sharpen yourknife out in the field like you
went into the field like youwent into the field with a dull

(47:54):
knife.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
Yeah, you say that now until you go into one of
your 4,000 and get stuck upthere for a week.

Speaker 3 (48:02):
Well, you find a good hard rock.

Speaker 1 (48:07):
Yeah, at that point it's pretty good in most cases
if you can find it soft but it'snot jagged.

Speaker 2 (48:13):
Yeah, and we have enough freaking granite around
here.

Speaker 3 (48:17):
We got plenty of rivers where you can go get a
good river stone yeah, so.

Speaker 1 (48:24):
I got a question.
I mean, one of the things I'mstruggling with with EDC is that
obviously I see all these guys, they have all their pocket gear
and then they jump to this bagconfiguration and this is the
leap in my head.
I can't get to because, like,I've got a bag right now and I
spent some time, you know, goingthrough like oh well, I need

(48:45):
this utility, do I need thispockets and all that stuff, and
then watching all the EDC guyslike Damn EDC and a few others
that I just was like, okay, thebag I ended up buying, I like it
, but it's not EDC for me andfriendly, because there's just
too many pockets and too manysystems to put everything
everywhere.
So I can't really find like asmall enough, easy, like, oh,

(49:07):
this is my you, um, a chargingpouch with all my cables and my
battery power, you know usbbrick and stuff like that, and
so what are you doing for yoursetup for that type of you know,
or do you do a bag like?

Speaker 3 (49:22):
I should ask that question first so all right, as
gay as it is, if, if I'm goingto a place where I want to carry
a little bit more, I'm notcarrying a full backpack.
That's where I go with thesling bag.
It looks stupid as fuck.

Speaker 1 (49:43):
I don't sling it behind me.

Speaker 3 (49:45):
I sling it across my chest.
The bag is in front.
My bag has a pistol holder.
So the bag is in front.
My bag has a pistol holder inthe back side of it so I can
take my pistol from my waist andI can move it up to the bag.
Plus, I can carry the extrasthat I might want, especially,

(50:05):
you know, like first aid.
If I'm going to, you know, say,to a fair right, I want to have
simple first aid with me.
I'm talking really simple, likejust Band-Aid.

Speaker 1 (50:17):
Okay, I was going to ask that question next in the
first aid stuff becauseeverybody's got a weird spin on
all that.
Like they're picking Trinikitsand I'm like, dude, I am not
bringing it.
I'm sorry, I just like the dude, I am not bringing it, I'm
sorry, I just like.
Like the whole trinicate kitlike is that's just too much for
me?
Well, all right.

Speaker 3 (50:35):
I know you have one.
We can touch on first aid, butI think I think it's important
to have to have a kit that it'sit's small and it's compact,
right, and so that's that'swhat's going to be in that sling
bag that it's small and it'scompact, right, and so that's
what's going to be in that slingbag.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
And so one second, I understand the words small and
compact, but what is that, likedimension-wise, for you?
Like when you say sling bag, like I have a sling bag that's
like I can't remember who makesit?
Todd's got it too, as well.
It's a nice sling bag, butwho's that?
Oak who makes it?
Todd's got it too as well.
It's a nice sling bag, butwho's that?
Oakley makes it, and it's theone with the two flaps on the
side and the center where weused to put the 891s in.

(51:15):
That bag's nice and that's asling bag that's way bigger than
mine.
Okay, so then you're talkingeven smaller, so like 12 inches
by, like you know, 6 inches.

Speaker 3 (51:33):
Like is like what you got a rough idea.
I'm talking like a standardsandwich bag, like a ziploc
sandwich bag, okay, and and theonly thing that you put in there
is you put bandages, you put,uh, you know, some neosporin,
some kind of antiseptic cream,um, and alcohol, alcohol wipes,
uh, and, and maybe a roll ofgauze or some gauze pads and
some tape, but like, yeah, veryminimal, very minimal.

Speaker 1 (51:55):
So then this is like totally, you know in your mind
way too big, All right, so yeah, like I mean.
Paul's holding up a larger bagthan the bag that I'm holding up
, with his name and the firstaid symbol on it.

Speaker 3 (52:14):
This is actually TO just did a video recently on
these bags, right, I remember it.
So I've got two of these thatare first aid kits, and we can
go into what's in that in asecond.
Yeah, I think there's a bigdifference between having a

(52:36):
first aid kit available to you, like that one, versus just, you
know, having some basics.
And if you're going to carry asling bag or, you know, a fanny
pouch or whatever it is that isgiving you a little bit extra
carry.
I would highly recommend justtaking a little sandwich baggie,

(52:56):
putting a first aid kit in itSimple stuff.
That way you cut yourself.
Maybe you got some super gluein there too.
I swear by super glue.
Everybody should have superglue in every first right.
Yeah, right, everybody's superglue.
Everybody should have superglue in every first aid kit.
They have totally all right.

(53:16):
You want to look at the firstaid kit?

Speaker 1 (53:18):
so okay, so in your first aid kit I assume that is
like a full-blown, likeeverything to the trinicate
level, like stuff too as well.
Right, as he's clearing hisdeck here, folks just give a
little commentator.

Speaker 3 (53:31):
Here you just clear his defense for his first aid so
, um, this kit is like mystandard kit and so I keep.
I keep a kit just like this inthe truck.
I keep a kit just like this inthe rv, and then I have another

(53:51):
kit just like this for whentruck.

Speaker 1 (53:52):
I keep a kit just like this in the RV, and then I
have another kit just like thisfor when I go ATVing or ice
fishing, and it's one for onefor everything, matched to the
complete.

Speaker 3 (53:58):
Everything is matched .
Yep, okay, all right.
So when you open it up, thefirst thing here is I've got
some Tylenol cold and sinusmedicine, because there's
nothing worse than being out inthe middle of nowhere getting a
cold and not having some coldmedicine.
This outside pouch here.

(54:27):
This actually tears off andseparates.
Oh, nice, modular.
And so this is what I'm talkingabout when I say a small kit.
This has got band-aids, gauzepads, antiseptic wipes and then
a bigger piece of gauze andthat's it.
So it's a very small, veryminimalist.

(54:49):
You can just take it off andyou can throw it in your sling
bag, and it's got just the bareessentials.
Then, alright.
So here we've got a couplethings of superglue.
For those that don't know, superglue is a fantastic

(55:10):
coagulant.
So if you've got a cut that'sbleeding profusely, um, apply
pressure, apply pressure, holdpressure for five minutes,
constant pressure, and then, once you release that pressure,
glue it right away and the gluewill stop the bleeding it'll
help heal the wound.

Speaker 1 (55:29):
I've literally had friends during summertime.
We were roofing and they shot anail through their foot.
Or the guy contractor shot anail through his foot and he was
just like hold on a sec andfilled the super glue with a
hole and then went back to workand continued on doing what he
was doing.
Yeah, pulled the nail out, ofcourse, but uh, so here's.

Speaker 3 (55:49):
Here's the sandwich baggie.
Again, it's another quick andeasy thing that I can grab out
of this kit if I need it.
It's the extra bandages andgauze pads.

Speaker 1 (55:58):
No Advil or anything you got that in there.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
Nope, this baggie is literally.
It's just a boo-boo baggie incase you get a small cut.
Sure, yep, we've got tape.
Tape, yep, boo-boo baggie.
In case you get a small cut,we've got tape.
Here, we've got all our alcoholprep wipes.
This is an add-on that I put inthis kit.

(56:26):
This isn't in every kit that Ihave, but this is Narcan.
Okay, wow.

Speaker 1 (56:33):
Dude, we're all set Todd.

Speaker 3 (56:35):
Yeah, so if I'm going ATVing or if I'm going out in
the wild or whatever.
My outdoors kits have Narcan, because you never know,
sometimes you run into somebodythat was doing, uh, some fun
outdoor activities and decidedto get high while they were
doing it.
Mm, um, we've got an airwaytube.

(56:59):
Uh, you know, airway block, itjust happened In.
Here is the lubricating jellyfor the airway tube.

Speaker 1 (57:12):
Feel inadequate, yet Todd, because I do yeah.

Speaker 3 (57:18):
So there's rubber gloves, in case you need rubber
gloves.
This is just some more gauze, bandages and things.
And in here I've got numerousdifferent suture kits right,
depending on Flavor and things.
And here I've got numerousdifferent suture kits right,
depending on how they wear color, different needle sizes,

(57:38):
different materials.

Speaker 1 (57:40):
I'd like the cherry flavor.
Please Dude so.

Speaker 2 (57:47):
I gotta stop you here for a second.
Did you buy all this stuffseparately or did you get a, a
kit?

Speaker 3 (57:54):
all right.
So I bought this as a kitbecause this is a really good
kit and I'll link.
I'll link this kit, but I addedto this kit because it's a it's
a fantastic foundation, butthere was other things that I
wanted.

Speaker 1 (58:10):
And so I guess the question to me is what did you
add to that?
Because there's a lot of crapthat you're just kind of going
through.
So did you go beyond the suturestitching side of things, or
was it more the added Narcanpiece?

Speaker 3 (58:23):
Yeah, so things that are added right.
All of the suture kit is added.
The Narcan is added Super glue, the boocan is added, the super
glue, the boo-boo baggie thoseare add-ons In this baggie.
The bandages are add-ons yeah,I love that adding piece there.
Obviously, the cold medicine isan add-on.

(58:45):
I always replace the traumashears that come in the kit.
I really like these because ofthe carabiner clip.

Speaker 1 (58:56):
Oh, that's cool.

Speaker 3 (58:58):
So I can put these on me.
If I don't have a place to putthem, gotta have a tourniquet.

Speaker 1 (59:08):
That's what I'm finding out is everyone does the
gotta have a tourniquet.
That's what I'm finding out iseveryone does gotta have a
tourniquet.
I've got like three of them.
Dude, how many tours do youplan on doing?
Where are you going if youdon't have?

Speaker 2 (59:21):
one, then you're gonna need one.
Granted, I understand thatphilosophy, I'll be out with
Eric and you won't be with us,paul, and I'll chop my leg off
and I'll need a tourniquet.

Speaker 1 (59:33):
Eric's like ah, I love to do, but sorry.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
Dude, we were just planning to do the rail trail.
I didn't expect you to loseyour leg.

Speaker 3 (59:41):
Well, so just imagine though, right, You're, you're
on a, you're on a simple campingtrip, and you're, you're,
you're cutting your firewood forkindling.
Get it going and you swing itin you missed, you chop it into
your leg.

Speaker 1 (59:57):
It happens more often than you think it does.
Trust me, I've seen it.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Yep, you're going to want to be able to put a
tourniquet.
In addition to putting thetourniquet, you need to have a
sharpie so you can write thetime that the tourniquet was
placed.
Yep, that makes sense.
Yeah, it's just a small onethat I keep in the kit, these

(01:00:24):
two things right here, the lasttwo things on this side they're
just compression bandages a facebandage and another face
bandage, wrap, nice, and thenhere on the other side, this is
a bag that I actually scavengedfrom a different first aid kit,

(01:00:45):
but this is all ointments, soit's bee sting and alcohol prep
and insect repellent, burn cream.
It's just a nice handy set ofstuff to have.
Then you get the chest seal incase somebody gets shot.

Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
Very massage Dude.
I am hanging out with Paul, Iknow that's why Paul?

Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
is not leaving our side.
I don't care how we look atthis.

Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
I don't need a church .
I got Paul.
This is in every first aid kithe has.

Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
This is only his first aid kit.
You got to have an abdominalpad.
It's just a big pad for largerones.
You've got to have an emergencythermal blanket.
I bought a box of these.
I've got two, three, four, everywhere hidden around.

Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
Those are the space-style ones.

Speaker 3 (01:01:49):
Yeah, just the foil blanket, you better get some of
those Art for your fourthbirthday.

Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
It can get cold.

Speaker 3 (01:01:56):
I highly suggest carrying a bottle of the US
foreign.
Can't miss that.
This is the maximum strengthplus pain relief.
So it's got a little bit of thePaul version.

Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
It wouldn't be any less.
Man, I feel like a ChuckNorris-like thing is coming on
here and then For anything outin the woods.

Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
You got All that comes in that kit.

Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
The splint or anything?
Yeah, the splint, specifically.
So the reason why I got thisspecific kit was because it had
the ventilation tube for in caseyour airway is obstructed.
It had the splint, it had thetourniquet what's the name of it

(01:02:46):
?
I'd have to look it up onAmazon.
Oh, come on.

Speaker 1 (01:02:53):
Spend Todd's money.

Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
Yeah, I will Trust me .
I will give you a link.

Speaker 2 (01:03:01):
Sir, here is a check with my name on it.
Write down any number on thispiece of paper and I will pay it
Exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:03:09):
Alright, so that's one example of a first aid kit.
No, that is the ultimate firstaid kit.

Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Let's just stop right there and just say that's like
just short of like approval ofthe ADA.
Not ADA, but the AmericanMedical Association, of the AMA.
That's what I was thinking of.
That's impressive, my friend.
Nice job.

Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
Well, alright, so I have numerous of that style kit.
I have one in my truck that'sagain it's on the MOLLE so that
I can pull it off the truck andI can attach it to my bag if I
need.
Again it's on the MOLLE so thatI can pull it off the truck and
I can attach it to my bag if Ineed.

(01:03:51):
I've got this one that I canalso attach to my bag if I need.
In my POTA bag I've got alittle bit smaller of a kit.
It's also in a MOLLE attachedon a bag, but it's just, you
know, it's a little bit smaller.
It's still got the tourniquet,it's still got the suture kit,

(01:04:11):
it's still got the gauze andneosporin and all of the other
stuff.
You know, I think the I've gota kit in my truck that's also
got a medical stapler in it.
So in case you need to bestapled, he's got it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
Yeah, you never know, were you a medic.

Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
No, I was just a ground powder.
I was infantry.
But the great thing aboutinfantry, right is you're an
independent person, you're arifle in a rucksack and you've
got everything you need to takecare of yourself and the guy
next to you.
So that's kind of like that'show you got here for everything,
right?
Not only am I taking care ofmyself, but I'm also taking care

(01:05:04):
of the guy next to me sorry IfI'm the first in line.

Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
He ain't got anything for you, Just kidding.

Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
But I mean like so anybody that's gone to any of
the field days that I've been astation captain at like I always
bring a first aid kit for everystation.
Every first aid kit like is setup almost identical.
They've all got the same stuffin it.
It just might be a little bitdifferently laid out yeah, been

(01:05:36):
helpful for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:05:38):
All right, wow, okay.
So I'm afraid you know, no, no,I shouldn't say I'm afraid I.
I'm super excited to see wherewe kind of go with this next
because, like one of the thingsthat I see a lot of edc guys
doing and a lot of the channelsis they do a lot of like.
They'll say like, uh, the pcside of stuff, so like
electronic gadgets, so like, um,you know battery banks, you

(01:06:00):
know power cables, that type ofstuff, how are you like, are you
separating that out through allof your kind of areas or are
you just doing one bag, kind ofthat?
You know kind of configurationfor that?
What's that kind of look likefor you?

Speaker 3 (01:06:13):
uh, so I also have that stuff all spread out as
well.
Um, like my.
So my podo bag has a coupledifferent battery banks in it.
Um, I, I, I grab a battery bagthat I move around with me.
This energy cube, this guy, this will travel around with me.

(01:06:36):
So, depending on where I'm at,this is just I throw it in a bag
.
It's obviously a big carry onyour person, but the little
what's the name of those ones, the ones that I told you to buy,
the U, the U or something.

(01:06:57):
Anyway, they're super smalllittle batteries that thing is
awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:07:03):
I bought the 100-watt one, so it's a little thicker,
and my brother was giving mecrap when I was out in
California.
I'm like, dude, this thing islike, this thing is great, Like
I can charge like five things atonce with this one little thing
.
I use that a lot when I when Itravel, because if you're stuck
in airports and stuff, everyone's always hogging the

(01:07:25):
thing.

Speaker 1 (01:07:26):
So you have that one power bank Okay yeah, I see I
got this one and basically it'sa.
Yeah, so I've got somethinglike this one.
Yep, so I've got the usbc, thetwo usbas.
Yep, yours is a little smaller,my mine's the 50 000, but yes,
and it's a beast.
20, yeah, I wish I went withthe 20 because the 50 is heavy,

(01:07:49):
but you know, I I don't thinkI've ever had to like recharge
this.
I mean still sitting at 82.
Last time I powered up threeother devices over the weekend,
so it's got a lot of power to itand the thing is Anchor's great
.

Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
They've got a great name, they've got great high
prices still with their name.

Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
Yeah they used to be the generic brand, right like
the cheaper.
Now they're like for a longtime.
Now they're like superexpensive.
That what he's got, is the oneI've got, except I got the one
that's like 100 watts orsomething or I don't know it's,
it's the bigger one and thething is awesome I mean it
literally like it can charge mycomputer, like from zero, yeah,

(01:08:31):
so my laptop so like this one.

Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
It's got a little yeah it's just like that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
It's got the thing.
Yeah, exactly, I like thosewith the display on it too, so
you know exactly how.
Yeah, some of the older oneshave like little dots.
I just like the way it tellsyou the percentage yeah, it's
way better with the percentage.

Speaker 1 (01:08:46):
At least you know exactly what you're gonna get a
battery.

Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
So you know, that battery that I, um, that I
bought for my photo bag, thatlittle tiny one, dude, that
thing is amazing.
It only used like 10% of myphoto when I was out for like
the whole hour and a half.
That was 12 amp hour or 10?
10.
I know that.
Yeah, dude, that thing isamazing and it's so light and I

(01:09:10):
was like, so I, I, when I gothome I forgot to check and I,
you know when did I go tocalifornia, like a month ago, so
I was cleaning up and puttingmy portabag back together and I
checked the battery and I waslike the thing was like at 84
percent, like 84 percent.
Like I used that thing for liketwo hours and I was constantly
calling cq and it's.

(01:09:30):
I was like, damn, and it's,it's smaller and it's way better
casing than the bioeno.
Like you, if you break this, like it's a hard plastic, right,
yeah, yeah.
But like if you break it, likethe battery's probably shot
because you like probably put abullet through it or something,
so and it's awesome.
So I love that thing.

(01:09:50):
So I'm right there.
I mean, and the price is is youcan't beat it.
You look on amazon, they go onsale and they drop tremendously,
so I'll be buying some more ofthose bad boys.
Yeah, you might want to soon, but before everything starts
really going crazy.

Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
All right, so we covered a little bit of the
first aid, we covered a littlebit of what's in our pockets
bags we kind of sort of touchedon.
I mean, obviously, I know, paul, you got a bag for very
specific, different purposes andits layout, and then the bags
of the bag.
So you have the baggo bags as,uh, you know, we refer to um, so
anything in that.

(01:10:25):
You know, because I know we'vetouched upon some of that in the
past and I don't know, you know, obviously I don't want to, you
know, go through all of themega details and all that.
But you did an awesome job backthen going through all of those
details.
Anything in your bags that youprefer, because you obviously
have some big rucksack kind ofstyle bags, do you go with those
because you're just comfortablewith you.

Speaker 3 (01:10:46):
No, I go with a bigger bag because I carry too
much shit.

Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
Okay, got it.

Speaker 3 (01:10:53):
It's not a bad thing.
I've gotten the radio stationdown to a very minimalist setup
where I've got the radio, I'vegot a 12 amp hour battery, the
red bag with my power stuff, theblue bag with my Bluetooth
keyboard, the things that Idon't necessarily need, uh, but

(01:11:17):
I want.
Right, the blue bag is anoptimal bag and so, yeah, so all
of that like doesn't take up aton of space, even my little
tablet for logging.
The whole rest of the bag iseverything else the first aid
kit, the wires, the knives, beefjerky and snacks in case I get

(01:11:41):
hungry.
Water purification method younever know right.
So in all of my bags I alwayshave water purification method
Dude.

Speaker 1 (01:11:54):
They are so easy these days, like you could
literally just come to yourwater bottle, run through the
river and you're good to go andyou're off.
You know you're all purifiedright then and there I love mine
that I've got.
I've got a few from I can'tremember the name of the company
, but yeah, I've got those on myhiking bag and love them.

Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
The pills or the filters no the filters.

Speaker 3 (01:12:13):
Yeah, so I've got a couple of the Sawyer filters.
Yep, that's what it was.
Yeah, thank you, and I alsoI've got iodine tablets.
So when I did Tecumseh and Iwent down the wrong trail now,
mind you, all right.
So I had packed for that day, right, like I had packed to go

(01:12:34):
to the summit, play radio andcome back down.
Well, I hadn't planned onadding an extra nine and a half
miles and hours and hours andhours onto my hike.
So it was fortuitous.
You know that I alwaysoverprepare, because, like you
know that I always over prepare, because, like you know, I ran

(01:12:55):
out of water by the time I hitthe summit, so my whole track
back, like we didn't have anywater.
So it just happened to be, youknow, like, of course, you're on
a mountainside, there's goingto be a stream, the first stream
that we came across.
I went, I'm filling, filling mywater, and I'm filling like,

(01:13:16):
let's go.
You know, yeah, so you neverknow like shit happens.
And if you don't have at a very,at a very basic means, right,
you should have a whistle, youshould have some type of a
mirror, you should have firestarting and water purifying,

(01:13:38):
yep, I think if you go into thewilderness without those items.
You're seriously settingyourself up for a failure.
A bad time, yeah, and it couldbe life.
A bad time, yeah, and it couldbe life-threatening, honestly,
you know, I mean, we can gothree days without water, yep

(01:14:02):
Right.
But if you're drinking badwater, that's even worse for you
, because now you're going to bevomiting and so then any good
water that you're taking in isnull and void.
You're actually hurtingyourself more.
So, yeah, 100%.
Those, I think, are, at thevery bare minimum, the things

(01:14:23):
that you should always have withyou.

Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
So all right Question .
So, in terms of your EDC in yourtruck, because that's kind of
one of the things that I'mevolving and I think one of my
first aid kits that I bought, you know, as I mentioned earlier
, this one's going in the truckjust for the purposes of space
and not having to carry it, andI I love this bag that I got,

(01:14:49):
which is a north face bag, andit's it's it and it's got a lot
of pockets, a lot of good space.
You know usage and stuff likethat, but I just, you know, I
struggle with it because, like,I carry around my tablet, I
carry around my laptop, I carryaround the charging and all the
cables that go with it, justbecause those are the things I

(01:15:09):
use on.
You know, we'll call it everydaykind of thing.
And then you know the the otherpieces that I fail on are just,
like you know, having a decentfirst aid kit like this is in
the case right now and it'sheavy, it's like not, you know
it sits at the bottom of yourbag and you know it's like it's.
It just adds more to the weightof the bag and not something
I'm really interested in andwanting to carry long term out,

(01:15:32):
you know.
So I was of at, you know, thesmaller versions or even like
now it's just suggested doingsomething, you know, even like
Ziploc bag style, and just bedone with it and then that way
you don't have to worry aboutyou know, having that, you know,
not that base covered and youknow, still, you know, in I was
curious.

Speaker 3 (01:15:49):
So looking at the truck stuff and segueing into
that or just in the vehicles andwhatnot is there, anything in
your truck that you carry inaddition to that's not part of,
say, your other kits?

(01:16:09):
So, yes, and yes and yes.
One thing that I will say toyou, though, is you've got to
remember your first aid kitshould always be the most
accessible thing, and so,however, you have to design your
kit so that it's comfortablefor you and it's got the things
that you need to feelcomfortable right, and then have

(01:16:33):
that kit easily accessible.
So you want you want, ideallyto mount that kit on the outside
of your bag or in one of theoutermost pouches, right, yeah,
easily accessible.

Speaker 1 (01:16:47):
Yeah, like on my hiking bag, I have a pouch up
front that like there is like aquick zipper from the back of my
shoulder.
I can pull that stuff out.
So yeah that I subscribe to100%.
You always want that quickaccess.

Speaker 3 (01:16:57):
Okay.
So that kit you keep showingthat's a great truck kit.
Throw that under your back seatand it's there.
It's got all the things youmight need.
I've got two really good kitsunder the back seat of my truck.
I've also got seat covers withmolly webbing on the back of

(01:17:19):
them, and so I take advantage ofthe molly webbing.
And so behind the driver's seatI have a pouch and that's got
my like oh shit, kind of it'sgot to, you know, like
compression tape.
So you know, like I playsoftball.
So if I get hurt, somebody elsegets hurt, we need some

(01:17:43):
compression tape readilyaccessible.
In the back of my.
I also keep a set of handcuffsbecause you never, you never
know You're taking Todd'sattention, you never know right.
There have been times where youstop to help somebody on the

(01:18:05):
side of the road and somebodyelse is involved and is
combative and you need torestrain that individual.
It's handy to have a set ofhandcuffs.
Trust me, no cop in the worldis going to fucking complain
that you restrained anaggressive individual and you
prevented them from doing harmto themselves or others by

(01:18:26):
putting handcuffs on them.

Speaker 2 (01:18:29):
Many times.
Yeah, you can't cut thoselittle shits all the time, yeah,
so that actually is one ofthose keys for it, though.
Yeah, that's always a goodthing.
I got handcuff keys.
That's one thing I have.
I have handcuff keys everywhere.
They're in my car, they're inmy pockets, they're in my A lot

(01:18:51):
of Jaden, they're on my desk, they're in.
I even leave them in the statecards.
I throw a couple in there, because what I do with my
handcuffs is I I have this likeit's like a kydex kind of case,
and I clamp it on to the back ofmy bag like the clips.
I just leave it on the outsidethat way if I need it, you know,

(01:19:15):
because I don't like wearingthem all the time.
If I have to wear them, I justgrab it.
It's always with me when I'm atwork.
If I go, I always bring my bagwith me if I'm driving somewhere
.

Speaker 3 (01:19:30):
You should always have some means of digging.
I've got an e-tool.
It's actually kind of a coolone.
It was one of those Kickstartercampaigns.
They were doing this new andimproved e-tool.
So each of the segments of thehandle unscrews and it's got

(01:19:52):
different tools in the sectionsof the handle unscrews and it's
got, like, different tools inthe sections of the handle, but
when you put it all togetherit's a full size shovel full
size shovel yeah, oh wow, that'simpressive like long handle
style or yeah, the other hand islike, I think, four and a half

(01:20:12):
five feet, wow, like.

Speaker 1 (01:20:14):
Yeah, a lot of the ones I have are not like I end
up just tossing them over thecorner because I'm afraid, like
I start actually using them, they're gonna snap like and
that's my frustration with them.

Speaker 3 (01:20:24):
So, yeah, no, it's all aluminum they're you know
probably uh, 10, 11 exactly well, pretty cool, put that in the
show notes.

Speaker 1 (01:20:34):
I'm interested.

Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
Alright.
Well, I'll have to find thatone, because the one that I got
was off of Kickstarter, but I'msure that there's.

Speaker 2 (01:20:41):
So I-U-N-I-O.
Is that the name of ourchargers there at the same
company?
Yep, that's the battery bank.
Alright, so they make a.
Wow.
Folding survival shovel,military grade.
Alright, so they make a.
Wow.
Folding survival shovel,military grade.
Entrenching tool, collapsiblemurder for disaster recovery,
car, emergency multi-tool spade, pickaxe, camping, hiking,

(01:21:05):
gardening.
It's $20.
Wow, basic.
I don't know how good it is.

Speaker 1 (01:21:11):
It's got four and a half stars with over 1,300
people Send us a link, we'llthrow it in the show notes.
All right, I'm alwaysinterested.
That's one of the things Idon't have in my truck.
I've gone through severalthings.
I have the two plasticsaddlebags that sit in the back

(01:21:32):
of the bed, that kind of swing.
One of them is obviously all myham radio stuff.
I love them, they're lockable,they're great.
Um, they're a little pain in thebutt with the tonal cover, but
that's a small, minor thing.
But the left saddle bag I'vegot literally all the typical
fluids that you'd normally gothrough the vehicle that you
need in a pinch.
You know um in small like uhplastic.

(01:21:54):
I bought um a set of uh, umplastic.
They almost look like the smalllittle three or four quart um.
You know oil bottles and stufflike that, but they're all
generic by color and so I've gotlike the typical fluids in each
of the four of them in the backor you know any of the those
types of the tire irons and afew other like small like.

(01:22:15):
The one thing I really love isI bought like a small craftsman
uh must be 14 piece, um quarterinch and three eighths inch.
You know ratchet set.
So I have all the sockets andit's no bigger than probably
half the size of this.

Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
So, um, I wish I've you know that's when we did the
last EDC talk.
I, um, I started to go allright, what do I?
What do I always never havethat I always need, and when I
need it, I never have it Right.
So I got tired of all my toolsdisappearing throughout the
house.
So I actually built a.

(01:22:50):
I got one of those roles little, all the two rolls and I put
those things, all my tools thatI could possibly need, and the
only thing that's not in thereis the socket set.
But the socket set is thislittle, it's probably that big.
It's got the basic metric onesand you know, 99 of the time

(01:23:11):
that's all you're going to need,right?
So I leave all that stuff in amilk crate from well, it's a
little bit nicer than milk cratefrom that company that we got
at lowe's and well, actually, the tough bill, I have it in the
in the box one.
I throw that in there with mything and a first aid kit,
everything.
So in that box I have all thetools I could possibly need, a

(01:23:34):
first aid kit, everything.
So in that box I have all thetools I could possibly need.
And then I throw in, like atype, my tire gauge.
Um, what else do I have inthere, just stuff that that you,
that you might need, uh,utility knives, that's in my
tool bag or whatever.
But what's nice about it now is, every time like I gotta fix
something on my kids dirt bikeor whatever, I don't run to the
house, I run to the back of myjeep, I pull that out, it's all

(01:23:56):
there, you know.
And I'm not like running around20 minutes looking for, hey,
what'd you do with the socketsetter?
You know, when you find it likethis, you know it's, it's open,
left on the workbench andthere's, the socket you need is
missing.
So I just took all the toolsthat I know I need and got the
ones that I couldn't findanymore and put them all in that

(01:24:18):
thing.
So that's like my, and it'sbeen great because I've used it
a lot more and it's alwaysavailable, you know well.

Speaker 3 (01:24:26):
So that's kind of add-on stuff, right, yeah.
So yeah I.
I also have a milk crate in theback of my truck.
It's got like a couple jugs ofoil and transmission fluid and
gear oil and you know, yeah, allof those things.
I think I've got two-stroke oiltoo for the boat and in the

(01:24:47):
truck right, because I've gotthe MOLLE webbing on the back
seat or the back of the frontseat.
There's a pocket, and so on oneside.
I've got a quarter-inch socketset the other side.
I've got a fuse box right, soit's got all of my replacement
fuses.
But then I got the.
I got the Cobalt from Lowe's.

(01:25:07):
They're the pass-through kit,so it's a ratchet.
But if you've got long bolts, bolts can go through the socket
and the ratchet.
Oh nice, oh sweet.
And so the, the sockets are are, um, they're double-sided right
.
So one side is metric, one sideis standard, so, however you,

(01:25:30):
put it in the ratchet.

Speaker 1 (01:25:32):
Oh, so you get the benefit out of one.

Speaker 3 (01:25:33):
Yeah, not having to cap two sets nice okay yeah, and
then, and then, um, I've got adewalt uh half inch drive impact
gun that I keep under thepassenger seat and I've got
sockets for that, becausethere's nothing worse than being
on the side of the road tryingto change a freaking flat tire
with with a tire iron, so mucheasier to grab the half inch you

(01:25:57):
call yourself a man, come onlisten, I want to be on the side
of the road.
Dude quick and possible is soyou use.

Speaker 2 (01:26:06):
So you use that, you use the.
So what do you call it?
The power to take the lug nutsoff?

Speaker 3 (01:26:12):
yeah, oh yeah yeah, that half-inch drive impact.

Speaker 1 (01:26:14):
Well, I give them crap because I have one and I'm
going to one-up you.
I actually carry an ultralighttwo-ton jack with me because I'm
tired of using the crappyscissor jack for mine.
So I just carry the jack withme and it's like oh dude, I've

(01:26:35):
never had to change a a tireknock on wood yet, since I've
had all of that, which is theway it always works.
But anybody else's need a tirechange, no problem, I've got all
that crap with me, yeah I got afive ton bottle jack.
Okay, you got the bottle jack.
That's actually pretty good.
Yeah, the jack definitely takesup a lot of space because I got
like one, what's the uh theplace over, uh, the like a
camera or jack?

(01:26:56):
No, not our the uh, the the umthe grange kind of style, but
heart uh, yeah, well, no, eitherway, I ended up buying.
Yeah, thank you, that's what Iwas trying to supply.
I bought one of their big, largeit was basically a mid-sized
box that I bolted the back of mybed, which that's going to come
out, because I really want tobuild the tough built stuff like
I.
I found somebody who 3d prints, like the rails to lock those in

(01:27:18):
that you can screw down.
So I'm like, oh man, I justwant to print those through your
rail.
So now I can just lock thosetough lock boxes to the back of
the bed, because that that big,you know box that I have in the
back has got a couple of strapsthat go to the side mounts to
hold it.
You know, from slipping backand forth and it's like you know
that tough built stuff isawesome oh, dude, it's awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:27:38):
Like it's expensive, it's expensive, but like that
shit is never going to breaklike you would have to like
physically, like try, and itwould take a lot of effort to
break that crap dude I.

Speaker 1 (01:27:52):
I drilled the holes in the back of that box for the
three-quarter holes to put theUSB and the power poles in it,
and I literally was burningthrough bits because the plastic
is so thick to try to get tothe hole.
So it's good shit.

Speaker 2 (01:28:10):
It's funny.
You talk about the MOLLE thingsin the back of your seat.
So on my Jeep they sell likehard molly kind of.
Yeah, I want to get some and II've been, I've got them in.
Uh, I forget if I saw them onone of the jeep sites or even
found them on amazon, but Ireally want to get them because,
like I have all those littlepouches, I could just strap them

(01:28:30):
all in instead of I have themin a.
I have this little plastic boxbasically, and I have all these
different pouches in, like thefirst aid kit, the one that has
all the like the you know, thegrab and go, like has the pen
and the knife and the lighterand all that stuff, and then, um
, and then I have like anotherone of all my electronic cords

(01:28:50):
and stuff.
Like all that stuff would justcould easily just sit on the
back of that seat and if I needI could just grab it.
So I'm probably gonna look moreinto that.
It's.
It's not cool that you use itor you, you have something
similar on your truck yeah, well, so I, I bought the, the, uh,
the chris kyle um seat coversthey.

Speaker 3 (01:29:13):
They got MOLLE, oh, with the MOLLE built into it.
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:29:16):
Yeah, so these are like.
This is like it actuallyconnects.
I think it connects to yourheadrest and then it comes down
and I don't know.
Yeah, it's got straps, it's gotstraps, or something.

Speaker 1 (01:29:30):
I've seen that I really want to change out
because I want to get um, the 20millimeter ball mounts to sit
in the top of my uh, the top ofmy console is like a built tough
or something like that hassomething.
They put ball mounts therebecause I want to mount my
cameras and stuff like that whenI go down the road and whatever
on the ball mounts.
But I got to move my glassesand a few other things.

(01:29:51):
So I've been looking for likethe right fit for molly panels
that go up on the top and I wanta hard one, I don't want a soft
and they don't make like onethat like contours to the visor.
It's like it's huge and I'mlike the roof line is already
like here on my head when I'mdriving, just because I'm tall,
and so if I add something likethat and I start dangling, so

(01:30:11):
I'm like I'm like alreadyducking now below that, so it's
like all right I can't rip theseats out, you're just gonna
have to, man, I, I literallyhave to lower it as far as I can
go.

Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
But well, they, you know they sell.
I mean I was.
I mean I have a jeep wranglerlike they make so many after.
I mean there's so much stufflike there's a like you can
actually take the center consolelittle thing and have it like a
gun safe or you could use itfor anything.
But most people where it evenhas like you know the, your,
your thumbprint as the opening, like so you look at, boom, it's

(01:30:45):
right there.
Um, they've got all kinds oflike you can add on, like little
slots for your wallet or things.
They've got so many differentthings you can do to add storage
.
I've seen guys on YouTube withtheir jeeps.
The whole back along the sideof the thing is just all bags

(01:31:09):
for gear.
It's all around the sides andit fits over the humps.

Speaker 1 (01:31:14):
It's just crazy I still have rear passengers.
I can't quite like throw a shitton of bags still give them
feed room.

Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
Well, right, so I mean, like no one ever wants to
ride in the jeep and when theonly person that rides in the
jeep is is zach.
So all I need is a front seat.
So, but you know, I gotta I'mgonna definitely look into that
more because I I think it wouldbe, uh, clean things up a little
bit.

Speaker 1 (01:31:40):
You know, constantly moving boxes in and out, you
know one of the things I foundis that, um, there's, there's no
manufacturer that will workanything with the bench seat and
the ram on the back.
That'll do molly panels, thatlike the hard, you know,
aluminum style.
But there's a manufacturer Ifound that just like makes
generic sheets of it, and so I'mjust going to buy the generic

(01:32:01):
sheets and cut them to fitaround it and then either mount
them to the bottom of the, theuh, the seat, or I was actually
going to cut the, the seatmounts on the back so I could
actually fold the seats down.
In my generation they don'tallow the seats to fold down.
The newer ones they do.
So I was going to use that backpanel that's just basically the
exterior part of the cab andput a MOLLE panel back there and

(01:32:23):
everything else like that, justfor mounting stuff.
You have the full cab, right, Ihave, yeah, I have the extra
cab.

Speaker 2 (01:32:28):
So it's bigger.
Yeah, diane's old truck waslike a full like that thing had
more room than any car I've everseen.
But you could like hers, youcould.
How did the seats work?

Speaker 1 (01:32:42):
They fold up.
Your generation could fold downand you could actually access
the back.
The A10 doesn't have that.
You have to cut the tabs, thesafety tabs, off the back, so I
got to go back in and trim themout and then I'll be able to
access it.
Yeah, same thing.
Yeah, so, and that that's mynext project, because I'm also
putting the all-star node backthere with a battery, its own

(01:33:02):
battery and a battery chargerjust rip the seats out and screw
your passengers.
Tell them to take another carwhen the truck is finally paid
off and it goes full uh, youknow, basically going over
overlanding then you know that'swhen I'm going to start putting
all the rest of the crap intoit that you know I really want
to do.
So, yeah, rips out the frontseat.

Speaker 2 (01:33:21):
It's like it's an Eric-only car.
It's got a whole station in thefront.

Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
My wife ain't coming overlanding with me, it's just
me.
It's the door sealant.

Speaker 3 (01:33:35):
So in due time, I'm sure, but yeah, still paying the
bill on that one, well.
So I was just thinking about it, like I mean I should probably
do a video just on the shit thatI have well, there you go, dude
.

Speaker 1 (01:33:41):
You run it out of material.
Keep that note going all thestuff you can do.

Speaker 2 (01:33:47):
I'll tell you, I mean my whole life, paul is, you
know, the grouch is the mostprepared guy I've ever known.
Like anytime I've asked him foranything, he's just has it Like
it's not even like we werefishing, right.
And what is?
Zach needed something.
And you're like, oh, I got oneof those.
And you went and you pulled itout and gave it to him.
I forget what it was.

(01:34:08):
I don't even know if it was.
It might've been a fishing lureor a hook, or I forget what it
was.
But I got one of those and hegoes through his bag and boom.

Speaker 1 (01:34:17):
Yep, although I have to say I bet you I have
something tonight that hedoesn't have.
What's that as a part of hisinterest, so I pointed it out to
this him earlier.
This is phenomenal.
I got this on best damn EDC.
This is a a very strong hook, but the benefit that I like it
is if you've got a bag you wantto hang from now you've got a

(01:34:37):
hook for it to hang off of andthis thing can hold up to 350
pounds.
It's crazy, and I picked theseup off of Amazon I'll throw the
link in there and I love thisthing because literally I don't
know how many of you are like mybag right now is on the floor

(01:34:59):
and any other time when I don'thave this on it, it makes it
wicked easy to basically throwit on a hook or put it in a you
know you know closet hanging upor whatever, and it's you know
it's been a lifesaver for a lotof stuff.
So I've got like I bought likefive of them, so I've got them
all over all my bags, includingmy pony bag, and my pony bag is.
I weighed it, it's literally ahundred, almost a hundred pounds
.
It's crazy.
With all the batteries in it,it's and that's all my yeah, my
video gear.
Like I like I was like, oh mygosh, this is too much.

(01:35:20):
And so I like dialed that backquite a bit, because I had all
of my gopro extras in there, like, oh, if I need this extra
mount or I need this extra stand, like I mean, I just threw crap
in there that I just like whydo I have this in here?
And so so I just I parted thatdown, so now it's down to like
about 35 pounds with all theradio and everything in it,
which is good, and.

(01:35:40):
But this hook is phenomenal.
It does an awesome job with itand it, you know it's hangs in
the closet, you know what it'ssupposed to, and it was never a
snap and never been an issue.
And, yeah, that that's the onething that I got.

Speaker 3 (01:35:52):
That I'm like dude, I gotta buy these guys for
christmas because it's freakingphenomenal yeah, well, and so
where I specifically see a needfor those is, um, like winter
field day or ice fishing.
Um, the, the ice fishing tentright, has has the uh, the
tension rods that go across theroof.

(01:36:12):
I'm always stuffing thingsunderneath those rods to dry out
or whatever, to be able to hangmy jacket from that hook.
That's it.

Speaker 1 (01:36:30):
I should have said what they were.
They're called the Gear AidHero Clip.
If you're looking for them,I'll pop link to paul there so
you can put it in the show notes.
Um, and you know, go from there.
But yeah, they've got everyfreaking color on the sun.
So it's like, oh, this isperfect.
So it's right up paul's alley,it's like it matches his back.
So this isn't color.
So there's no reason why thegear't get the gear.

(01:36:52):
What aid?
Gear aid aid hero clip green, green, green.
That's the color for me.
Yep, I was gonna say nothingless, but yeah, that that's been
.
Uh I, I picked that up off ofbest damn edc uh website and you
know he swears by them and I'mlike, well, I was like I'll give

(01:37:13):
a try.
They're pretty cheap andthey've gone up in price since.
Well, actually, no, $20 ain'tbad for two of them.
So you know, overall, yeah, definitely worth the buy there
for sure, pretty cool.
That's a long link.
I should have given you a shortone, but it'll do.
Okay, so any other things thatwe I mean we could go for hours

(01:37:35):
at this point and you know, likewe always say, if there's
interest I know actually therewas one interest because I know
we had a topic in one of ourthings, but this isn't, you know
, a credit towards that.
What are we carrying for radiogear with you guys on your EDC
stuff?
Radio gear, yeah.
Gear with you guys on your EDCstuff Radio gear, yeah, like

(01:37:56):
you're carrying HTs.
Any other specific?
Oh, elon gets you Paul.

Speaker 2 (01:38:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:38:02):
Man get a snapshot of that, paul Todd.
That's his happy face.
That's the grouch's happy face.
That's what I carry, okay, hey, elon got Yep, okay hey.

Speaker 2 (01:38:17):
Elon got you Really good.
What'd you get, augusta?
Yeah, radio gear?
Yeah, I don't really.
I mean I have my.
I should throw my HT in theJeep.
I mean I have my, my AT300, andI use quite often Um, I do have

(01:38:37):
, yeah, I do have um one ofthese, but not this one, the one
Paul has that I have plugged into the back of my Jeep and I
have it kind of strapped to nextto the um.
Our extinguisher is on amountain, it's kind of mounted
next to it and it's, I mean,it's kind of mobile and it just
plugs in.
I have a cigarette socket inthe back there.

(01:39:00):
It's not like a charger socketand I just run a little cord to
it and it just stays plugged in.
It keeps it charged.

Speaker 1 (01:39:10):
What is that?
I mean?
Obviously for our podcastlisteners here.

Speaker 2 (01:39:19):
It's that thing, you know?
Yeah, it's the, it's theMeshtastic, so this is the one
that I was showing you.
This is the better one.
So I have a bunch of Haltechones and the batteries don't
last for crap, like they don'teven last a day.

Speaker 1 (01:39:36):
this thing will last three or four days and, yeah, I,
I have obviously the, the onethat paul is holding up there,
the uh, I might forget what theycall the lilly go, uh, t-dex,
yeah, with the big, you knowchunky case, and well, mine's a
little bit thicker, he's got abigger battery in it, which
still doesn't help much, but itdoes.
Yeah, I like the.

Speaker 2 (01:39:57):
you know, I really I want to get the one taller
antenna, but so, yeah, I've gotthe one in the car is, um, I
think it's a Heltech, but it'sgot the GPS and stuff on it yeah
, the tracker.
And then I got a bunch ofsmaller ones, but the Haltech
ones.
They don't last very long.

Speaker 1 (01:40:19):
They won't last a full day, although this one, the
Muzzyworks one, I'm totallyblessed.

Speaker 2 (01:40:26):
I can go for 48 hours no problem with it being
sitting on it, right.
So that's different.
So I've got a couple.
So this is a health tech one, which is, I love this one, but
it doesn't stay charged verylong.
Um, but it's good to throw inyour pocket.
Good to you know, you can throwit to your bag or whatever it's

(01:40:48):
.
Got this little antenna and thenthis has the same thing in it,
and then I found this uh, etsyhad a sale.
These things were like 40 off.
I think I paid like 14 orsomething for the case.
Pretty good.
And then I got.
I got these antennas.
Um, after we did the mesh task, that got thing in our club,

(01:41:11):
guys told me I bought a wholebunch of them and they work much
better than any of these otherantennas.
So, like I said, they don'tlast very long.
I mean, these are good to like.
If I was going to go for a hike, I could give to Zach, right,
and just say here, you know, throw this in your bag and show
him how to use it, download theapp on his phone, and he'd be

(01:41:32):
good to go this in your bag andshow him how to use it, download
the app on his phone and he'llbe good to go.
This one is like I can bringwith me.
Forget not to charge it andit'll last a couple days.

Speaker 1 (01:41:41):
Yeah, I mean it kind of goes along the lines we
talked about a while back.
Paul mentioned GMRS radios athome and having those on standby
for the family and stuff likethat.
That's technically sort of EDC,but you know, kind of just
definitely, you know, for therest of the family and other
people you know you might needto be able to get radio
communications too and stuff.
So, yeah, man, I'm curious, soI'm going to throw this out to

(01:42:04):
everybody because you knowyou're obviously listening to
this and hopefully you knowyou're a big EDC person yourself
.
You know we're going to throwus up in our discord and we want
to, you know, obviously hearfrom you guys.
What do you guys use, what?
What stuff maybe we notmentioned?
I mean, obviously Paul wentthrough a lot of stuff and a lot

(01:42:24):
of great things and hopefullythat got you inspired to kind of
improve your kits.
But you know, hey, let's kindof share stuff around here and
uh, you know, see, uh, see howwe can add to our shopping carts
and improve our little everydaystuff, because I personally
want to find out what people usefor their everyday carry sling
bags, that type of stuff.
See what people out there I'vebeen looking at some 5.11 stuff

(01:42:46):
and Tom Bin's got an interestingsling bag that I kind of got an
interest in.
But I don't want to buy justanother bag, to buy another bag,
they kind of thing.
That's.
My problem is, I've already gotfive bags.
Do I use all five?
No, at that point I gotta finda home for them.
So, all right, well, anythingelse we want to throw in there
that we kind of, uh, missed ordidn't touch upon that, uh, you

(01:43:07):
know, we should let ourlisteners know well, I would say
, uh, there's probably thingsthat I've missed.

Speaker 3 (01:43:17):
So, uh, I look forward to the comments.
Let me know, like in thecomments, what, what you think
that I should have on me, whatyou disagree with that I carry,
that I shouldn't carry.
Yeah, I look forward to allthose comments anything you want
to throw in Todd.

Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
I don't think there's a simple answer of what the
perfect EDC is.
I think everyone's got theirown thing.
I think the things that Paultalked about, especially the
first aid kit, kind of opened mymind up a little bit of things
that I should probably add to mykits.
Um, I threw basic kits in mydaughter's car, my wife's car,

(01:44:02):
and then I've got one that Ibring with me basically wherever
I go.
And then I got another one, just uh, you know, when I bought
that I just threw in the truckand truck, and I think I have
another one I use for baseballtoo.
So you know I've got, you knowI've got, but I don't have.
I think I need to go throughthem and make them take some

(01:44:27):
things out.
Like I don't need like 100Band-Aids.
I could use like 10 Band-AidsOne day, you will, yeah, I know.
And could use like 10 Band-AidsOne day, you will, yeah, I know
.
And the whole team I freakingscratched up their legs.
I'm like, damn, I'm one short.
No, but I mean I don't thinkthere's a right and wrong.
But, like I said, I'm nevergoing to question Paul because
ever since I've known him andanytime I've ever needed

(01:44:47):
anything, he's had it.
So until the day he doesn'thave it, then I'll be like huh
see, you're not the mostprepared man in the world, he's
just waiting for that day.

Speaker 1 (01:44:55):
Just like when Todd will get his extra someday.

Speaker 2 (01:45:00):
Oh, we'll forget that one day.
It'll probably never happen, both of them.

Speaker 1 (01:45:05):
Well, I hope not, man .
I don't know how long we cankeep the extra going there until
people are like dude.
How many more times do we haveto go over this one question
Todd's been studying?
People are like dude.
How many?

Speaker 2 (01:45:13):
more times do we have to go over this one question?
Cosby studied for his extra for20 years 10 years.

Speaker 1 (01:45:20):
How many have you been for 10 years?
Oh man, by then they'll have tochange the test Like so I?
Actually, this is going down arabbit hole.
I heard that in all of thedelete, delete, delete, people
were recommending that the fccchange the structure of
licensing to be a basic andadvanced license only, so we'll
only have two levels.
So by the time that happens, todd, I am going to kick you in

(01:45:42):
the butt.

Speaker 2 (01:45:42):
well, what do you mean?
A?

Speaker 1 (01:45:44):
basic and, instead of doing like this, is what
happens over.
Yeah technician general andextra.
It'll be a basic and anadvanced license, and so what
would a general be?
The basic?
General would be advanced, probably, or general would
probably be basic, because theycombine the lower bands and then
you get all the extra stuff inadvanced.
It's sort of like how theEuropean guys do it, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:46:10):
So that'll happen.
So what'll happen is I'll getmy extra and then, like the next
day, they'll be like oh, we'rejust going to give all the
generals the extra bands.

Speaker 1 (01:46:18):
Cause that's my luck.
Yep, that would be all Todd'sextra, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
Look at as long as it's taken me, like I said, I
haven't.
I really just haven't had timeto just sit down and like when I
did general, that's all I did.
I just I did it for like threeweeks and I just learned
everything and you know, thatwas all I did.
I got so much going on that Ido as much as I can.
Um, and once I buckle down andsay, okay, I'm just doing this,

(01:46:46):
I'll get it.
So I got to do that and I'mhoping, once, this, once.
Uh, july comes and baseball'send of july and baseball's over
end of July.
When baseball's over, I'll havethe whole month of August that
there's nothing going on.
I don't have any vacationsplanned.
I'll be taking some days offand that's when I'm hoping to
definitely Trust me, dude, it'sthe same for me and I have it
easier than you.

Speaker 1 (01:47:06):
All I have to do is just read the manual really
quickly for my VE and then takethe damn test and be done with
it.

Speaker 2 (01:47:15):
That's no like, it's no excuse.
I'm thinking now like I'm gonnalook on the nashville society
thing and see when their nextcourse is for the extra weekend,
because again I it depends.
I may not have time to do it,but if I it's why it's a well
worth 60 bucks.
Yeah, and I think that I thinkif I did that and as much as

(01:47:37):
I've been studying, I think Iwould be fine with that because
it would help me you literallyspend 48 hours going through
test material.

Speaker 1 (01:47:46):
They drill you on it, they show you real live
examples of it and then sundayyou take the test.
So there's no like there's nogap at all, except for the fact
that you eat dinner, go to bedand then get up the next morning
and do the thing or take thetest.
You know that, so you know youdon't have any, any distractions
.
So always a good thing.
That's how I did mine yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:48:04):
So I mean I don't know, but I mean it's, I still
do.
I like that there's somethingextra.

Speaker 1 (01:48:09):
I think that's the most part of this podcast dude,
we got some other stuff going on, I mean.
So we didn't allude to this, but you know, obviously by the
time this episode airs, paul isalready going to be on the road.
So I'm thinking we're going todo, uh, where is paul in san
diego, kind of thing, andwhere's the grouch?

(01:48:31):
You know, you know, and we'llplay it up there, because he's
going to be away doing his testfor his class A license.
Do you have 360?
Life 360?

Speaker 2 (01:48:43):
Do you have Life 360 there, paul.
No, we can track you.
We'll see how fast you'redriving.
Dude, are you supposed to bedoing 90 with that trailer on
the back?
You, you see how fast you'redriving.
You're like, dude, are yousupposed to be doing 90 with
that trailer on the back?

Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
No, I hope not.

Speaker 3 (01:49:03):
I'll run APRS on the B band and I'll keep Simplex 2
meter Simplex on the.
A band.
That way you can track me thewhole way, there you go.

Speaker 1 (01:49:16):
And then we'll do a follow-up.
As Paul, please confirm yourdestination spots all along the
way and explain why you stoppedat this place.

Speaker 2 (01:49:27):
With Paul's luck, he'll be in some open field and
he'll be in his camper and allof a sudden a tornado comes.

Speaker 3 (01:49:33):
By no way You'll be in his camper and all of a
sudden a tornado comes by.
No dude, no way I mapped it allout.
So after New Year Fest on the5th, that Monday, I have to
drive to Chichester, newHampshire, to Camping World, so
that they can take pictures ofmy window with a chip in it.

(01:49:55):
Then I'm going to um Johnson orJohnsonville, new York.
Um, it's my first stop.
I, the way that I plan it outis, I'm not driving more than
four hours a day.
Yeah, good idea.
Yeah, so, because I want tomake sure that when I get to
where I'm getting to, that likeI haven't destroyed my body,

(01:50:17):
where I need like a couple daysof recuperation, hey, I just
drove five hours and I washurting.

Speaker 1 (01:50:24):
I was like oh, getting out of that damn.
That's why he's at four, so heshould be okay yeah, so I'm
stopping uh Eastern New York onMonday.

Speaker 3 (01:50:35):
Western New York will be my Tuesday stop, then Ohio
will be my Wednesday stop andthen I'm going to stop at
Carlos' house on Thursday.
I'm looking forward to spendingthe evening with Carlos and his
wife before I head to the dropzone for ground school on Friday

(01:50:59):
.
There you go.

Speaker 1 (01:51:01):

We will definitely be gettingupdates once a week, if not more
, and we would love to hear whatthe heck's going on.
It should be fun and hopefully, you know, we'll be able to post
a few on Live Free.

Speaker 2 (01:51:12):
Are you going to be able to go pro any of your jumps
?

Speaker 3 (01:51:14):
So I will not be able to have a camera on any of my
jumps.
However, if things go well, there's a possibility of having
somebody else jump with us witha camera.
I'll be looking to Carlos forhelp with the system In that

(01:51:37):
regard.
It's awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:51:41):
So one of the cool Lifferingham folks have left the
nest and they'll head off tofly the Friendly Skies or sail
the Friendly Skies for a littlewhile and they'll come back.
But yeah, looking forward tohearing all those cool
adventures.
You're going to be joining uson the podcast.

Speaker 2 (01:51:56):
Oh yeah, he'll be on, yeah he'll be on the podcast,
he'll just be on the road.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:52:00):
That's why we're doing where's, the where's,
where's and what OG Grouch yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:52:10):
It'll be, it'll be.

Speaker 1 (01:52:11):
This is the grouch from 10,000 feet and falling
well, probably not, not yet, atleast when he's all said, and
done.

Speaker 2 (01:52:22):
We can do a live stream you're falling.

Speaker 1 (01:52:25):
Does he even do a live stream from his falls?
I don't think he does.

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
