Celebrate with us as we mark 500 YouTube subscribers in this special livestream packed with giveaways, technical discussions, and the authentic ham radio camaraderie that defines Live Free and Ham.

The conversation opens with Paul sharing his exhilarating journey into skydiving as he prepares for the Independence and Legends Boogie at his local drop zone. His description of the freedom found in freefall resonates deeply: "When the parachute opens, it's almost like a sudden reevaluation of all your life priorities." For a combat veteran who once struggled with fireworks triggering anxiety, Paul's excitement about attending his first fireworks display since 2010 marks a powerful personal milestone.

Mike from Tortoise Overland joins to share his triumphant first Parks On The Air activation, which sparks the creation of a new tradition – "POTA beers," where first-time activators must bring beverages to share at the next gathering. This moment perfectly captures the spirit of mentorship and community that permeates amateur radio.

The episode takes a fascinating technical turn when Ziggy enters the conversation, delivering insightful expertise on antenna design, particularly with NFEDs. His detailed explanations of impedance matching, capacitor selection, and optimization techniques showcase the depth of knowledge available within our community, while contrasting beautifully with operators who focus primarily on making contacts.

Throughout the livestream, viewers participate in multiple giveaways featuring Reliance Antenna products and Live Free and Ham merchandise. We also announce our upcoming 24-hour POTA event at Greenfield Park on September 6-7, inviting hams from across the region to join us for operation, food, and fellowship.

Whether you're drawn to the technical aspects of radio, the thrill of activation, or simply the warmth of ham radio friendship, this milestone celebration demonstrates why our community continues to grow and thrive. Visit livefreeandham.com to learn more about our upcoming events and join the conversation!

we gotta get a couple of FU stickers, man, I need
those.
But it's very tasty, nice, verycool oh and the good old.

Speaker 2 (04:31):

I'll definitely save you acouple.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Awesome, good.
Well, we got, like I said, afew people in there.
Bob wants us to say hello tohis grandkids there.

Don't know you, but you know weknow bob.
Well, so, uh, you know we treatyou the same way.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Here's to you thanks for being there, harrison and
adeline.
Lots, stop barking it's a it's.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
It's like doggy daycare tonight well.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
So, uh, in all fairness, okay, um, so this
weekend is a big deal here atthe drop zone.
Um, it is the independence andlegends boogie um, and I've
never been to a boogie, uh, butfrom what I'm told it's very
similar to kind of a hamfestival, where there's going to

(05:23):
be, you know, vendors.
There's going to be, you knowvendors.
There's going to be a wholebunch of extra planes.
Uh, they've even got ahelicopter coming.
Unfortunately, uh, you need a blicense or higher to jump out
of the helicopter.
Okay, so, yeah, there's nohelicopter for me, but, uh, yeah
, so the the um, the rv parkhere is just, uh, it's hopping.

(05:47):
There's a lot of people thatare coming in getting ready for
the weekend.
Um, my neighbor, uh is a, is asuper cool guy.
He's, um, said he's around 1400jumps, been jumping for 15
years.
Um, yeah, really nice guy.
But so he's next door and he'sgot a dog and so, yeah, that's

(06:09):
kind of captured watson'sattention nice.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Oh well, good man, dude, it sounds like it's a big
blast.
So it's like it's just like awhole kind of weekend gathering
for the fourth and everyone justjumps out of planes and drinks
and has food yeah, so, uh, sotomorrow, um, the extra planes
are coming in.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I'm actually, I'm really I'm super excited for the
.
The sky van, what's that?
Um, all right, so the sky van,it's, uh, it's, it's a, it's
twin prop, prop plane.
But instead of jumping out ofthe side of the plane, like
you've seen in my videos, it'sgot a door in the back and so

(06:53):
you get a boxcar with wings.
It's, yeah, like, I mean, youcan actually stand up inside of
it, like it's that tall, you canstand up inside of it and then,
like, go out the back.
So I'm super excited for that.
I can't wait to jump out ofthat freaking plane.
But, yeah, so that plane willbe here tomorrow.

(07:16):
There's a potluck dinnertomorrow night.
Then Friday, obviously, there'splanes and demos.
I'm going to go to one demo tohelp out his ground crew.
Carlos is going to be jumpingat a different demo, obviously

(07:36):
getting skydiving in around thedemos, and then a big fireworks
show, which listen as as a as acombat veteran that served in
Afghanistan, where we weremortared on a daily basis, I've
had I've had big issues withfireworks, but for some reason

(08:00):
being here I don't know if it'sbeing here or what it is, but
the last couple nights there'sbeen a bunch of fireworks and
things and usually that kind oftightness in my chest and that
kind of just unwanted anxiety, but I haven't had it.

(08:24):
So I'm going to go to thefirework show.
This is gonna be the first timethat I've been to a firework
show since, uh, I don't know, probably 2010, wow, uh, yeah.
So this is gonna be a big dealand and hopefully it's great and
I love it and you know I can, Ican actually take it in and

(08:44):
enjoy it.
Uh, you know, fireworks showagain.
Um, but yeah, dude, I'm just,I'm, I'm super excited.
Um, saturday, uh, saturdaynight.
This is why I said sunday.
I'm probably not going to get alot of jumps in.
Saturday night is the beerOlympics, and I haven't been put

(09:07):
on a team yet, but I did saythat I was willing to be on any
team that would have an, youknow, an adequate beer drinker.
So, yeah, so we're, I'm goingto.
I'm going to try and take videoof what I can so that I can, I
can share it with you guys.
It's going to be a tremendousweekend.

(09:30):
It's going to be unreal, it'sgoing to be great, nice.

Speaker 5 (09:33):
Can you guys see me, hear me, we can see you and hear
you.
I was on before and I was likea ghost.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
That's normal.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
That's normal for Todd then I hit the transition.
You guys oh, todd, must bescrewing around like yeah,
trying to get your attentionthat's what the chat's for did
you get it?

Speaker 4 (10:00):
did you get a detoss?

Speaker 1 (10:03):
did I get it?
No, a detask you mean uh.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
No, I mean an ed dong I have one that oh dude, I was
dying last night.
That was the funniest thingI've ever seen on live oh, dude,
did that.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Uh, that, uh, yeah, definitely left me in stitches
halfway through.
I could not keep up with thatchat man.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
It was getting so bad if joe brett rolls into
montesano and that antenna isn'tup dangling around his little
capacitor that's at yeah if thatantenna isn't up dangling
around on his vehicle, I'm gonnabe so upset and I'm gonna give

(10:49):
him all ration of shit, for itis that all you're gonna give
him.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
Well, oh man, yeah, I have to say, yeah, I was.
I.
I dude, they couldn't haveplayed that any better.
It was perfect timing and, just, you know, all frank, was a
great distraction.
But, uh, amongst the fact that, you know, joe brett took center
stage and, you know, unwrappedchristmas twice over, you know,

(11:18):
and both of those you know Ican't tell you how many I I felt
bad for, you know, uh, his wife, noelle, because it's like the
jokes were flying all left andright to that.
I'm like, yeah, that antenna isgoing to be hers.
I'm like, oh, poor woman, ohgod, no, it was good, it was
good.
So, yeah, if you haven't seenthat, go back to the team replay

(11:43):
there and check that out.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
It was definitely worth the watch, for sure oh for
sure, if there, if there areany uh, clubhouse episodes that
you want to go back and watch, definitely episode 6, episode 32
and 222.
In that order, the first, thefirst two.
You've got to be a channelmember to watch 22, 222,.

(12:06):
I think that's open for now.
Oh my gosh.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, I only caught parts of that one and I have to
become a channel member againbecause it lapsed.
But yeah, I've got to go backand rewatch all those Cool, all
right.
Well, with that, mike, what'sgoing on with you, my friend?
Good to see you.
Thanks again for hanging outwith us tonight.
Uh, how's tortoise overlanddoing?
My friend?
I heard you.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
You finally, uh, popped, as paul says, popped
your cherry yep, I, I hit up us0619, the uh, allegheny national
forest.
I'm literally just outside ofthe actual forest boundary.
Are houses the direction of mytruck facing north and south

(12:52):
that way?
No, that way.
That way is the AlleghenyNational Forest.
I actually did drive deep intothe forest this morning.
I did 20 contacts on 40 metersin about 40 minutes.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Dude, that's pretty good, nice, oh yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
And what I did is, when I got onto the photo app, I
put first activation and boy, everybody was hitting me.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Yes, they're like there's a virgin activator out
there, go get them.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
That's the way to get them and got the truck muddy,
pulled out a.
There was a place I wanted togo and there was probably a
two-and-a-half foot diametertree that fell down all rotten.
So I said I was gonna takevideo and say the things we do
for poda and take video of meactually tying my winch to the

(13:53):
stupid tree and pulling it offthe road.
Wow, clear the path, yeah.
And then I figured out thatthere's a pond there full of
mosquitoes.
So I said no, I'm going to gothat way so I got a crazy idea,
right.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Okay, so I made the mistake today when I was talking
to my new neighbor.
Well, he's not new, but when Iwas talking to my neighbor, I
said that this was going to bemy first boogie, and so in
skydiving anything, that is yourfirst.
When you get your license, youowe beer oh, no, no, no, no no

(14:31):
so I think we need to bring thatover to ham radio.
So chris bricker would owe beerfor being his first sideband
contact right, and michael owesbeer for his first poda
activation so, so let's, yeah,yeah, but that's skydiving, it's

(14:53):
not ham radio.
So listen, let's when I got mylicense, I gave, I gave beer,
all right.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
So so here's let's kind of shape this conversation
a little bit so like in essence, how, how much beer does mike
have to give, and you know whattype of beer, and more so, is it
based off of total success, total completed contacts, or is
it just the activation as awhole is a success, and does he
have to pay more beer if hedoesn't get a successful

(15:24):
activation?

Speaker 2 (15:26):
So it's.
It's just the fact that it's afirst Okay and we'll say, we'll
say, um, you know, a 24 or a 30pack, okay, all right, so you
heard it here A beer of yourchoice.
And is it just the first personhe comes across or is it just

(15:48):
everybody in his circle?
Oh no, no, it's.
It's when we get together again, right?
So like near fest, right?

Speaker 1 (15:53):
or actually before near fest.
He's coming to 24 hour poda, sowe'll definitely have more beer
yes, there we go.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
I changed my mind.
It's's going to be GuinnessExtra Stout.
That works.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
dude, that's strong.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
And it's going to be warm.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
I've done warm Warm's .
Okay, you know I prefer thechilled version, but you know,
hey, I've swallowed a bit.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Yeah, it's beer of your choice, so bring whatever
you'd like.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
Wow, I like this beer .
All right.
All right, so bring whateveryou'd like.
Wow, I love this rule Alright.
So I have a question what aboutTodd?
What about me?
What about Todd, when you getyour extra?
What beer are you bringing?

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Oh, we're going to now extend this to a license
class.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
It's a first?
No, it's not.
I've gotten a license before.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Not as an extra.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Yeah, anything to spend Todd's money.

Speaker 4 (16:51):
This is not one area he wants to spend it on.
Yeah, I get my extra beforeTodd you're probably right, but
Todd likes it.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
Todd like Todd wants to keep the extra going on, so
it's never the beer that, likeif it was me, like if I was for
myself, I'd probably just getlike blue moon or something.
I like blue moon.
But but if, if you know, ericwas there, I'd probably go down
to the uh the brewery and buyglass and buy him some.

(17:21):
I don't know about 30 of them,since I know you.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
But four pack is perfectly fine in that because,
like you know, at eight oreleven percent abv, yeah, that's
perfectly fine, we'll mix it up, we'll see what happens nice,
okay.
Well, you guys hear it first.
We've established the rules, sogoing forward, please spread
the rule and let everybody knowthat if you run into a virgin

(17:45):
ham radio operator that theyactivate to park successfully,
or it doesn't activate at all,it just activates in general,
the beer has to go forward.
So I don't know, someone comeup with a great, you know slogan
for this and you know it willcarry it on, but yeah, usually
poda beers, poda beers not to beconfused with poda power,

(18:07):
because after like 50 beersyou're like what poda power,
what?
what poda slurs.
But anyway, good deal 7200,let's go so, mike, I, I, I'm
gonna we're gonna bring thisdown a little bit.
I'm very, very touched that youfelt like I was the one to push

(18:30):
you, like I did Todd, into thePOTO world.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
Yeah, but you and Paul both shit on me by not like
hey guys, look, I'm on the air,I'm doing an activation, and
Paul's like I got to get myantenna up and there's like I'm
not even near a radio.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
sadly, I I mean yesterday you could have got
park to park with both of usyeah, you could have.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
That would have been a trifecta for sure, that would
have been awesome that's onething.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
That's one thing I, I , the pol, needs a park-to-park
button.
It does.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
You just got to go to this Listen, go to the spotting
list, and then all you got todo is click on the call sign of
the person that you're wantingto make a contact with, and
it'll auto-translate all oftheir information right over to
your contacts field, and thenyou just put in the signal

(19:29):
reports and log it right.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
But what if?
What if I'm calling and theycall me park to park?

Speaker 1 (19:35):
you can select them.
You basically put their callsign in and then hit the park to
park button.
And what would you use in polo?

Speaker 2 (19:42):
yeah, just hit the p2p and if they've been spotted
at a park, it'll automaticallythrow the park number in yeah so
here's a little tip poda doesall the freaking heavy lifting
for you.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
So even if you don't put their park number in, you're
still going to get the park tocredit because when you submit
your log it'll go oh, I needthis connection and you know
you'll get.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
Oh, there we go.
Yeah, I just found it.
Yep, yeah, now here's a littletip.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Here's a little tip.
So if you, if you're in usingyour poda app, in the polo app,
if you type your frequency thatyou're going to activate on in
the frequency field actually youdon't even have to do that you
can, in the contact field youcan type spot me, s-p-o-t-m-e,
space, the frequency that youwant, and then it'll update the

(20:32):
frequency and send it to thespotting page for you right from
the command line oh, I didn'tknow that.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
That's cool freaking awesome I love it.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Yeah, yep, jesus, talk about uh now easy.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Did anybody hear about the little uh easter egg
that polo did for field day?
Please copy the one where theydid please copy.
Yeah, exactly right.
Yeah, so now there's a pleasecopy option.
I don't know if it's still in,you know it's probably still in
there, but yeah, anytime someonesays please copy, which it
doesn't happen during regularactivations, but every once in a

(21:06):
while it happens.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
But yeah, it caught me like three or four times
winter field day.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
I was shit faced.
Oh, you were please copy.

Speaker 1 (21:17):
Yeah, that was, that was not the smartest move to say
, hey, I, I'll drink every timesomeone says please copy.
That was the worst thing youcould ever do to yourself.
Alcohol poisoning.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
And I was drinking scotch and beer.
So it was like, oh, please copyAll right.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
If you want to see how shit-faced N1OD was, head on
over to his channel and checkout the live stream, because
it's still up there and that wasa what two, almost three hour
live stream.
That was huge.
Yeah, I mean, you were goingforever.
I I fell asleep halfway throughand I'm like I woke up to paul
still online.
I'm like, oh my gosh, I fellasleep for 45 minutes.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
He's still online yeah, I should move that to
channel members only probably itmight have to be that, but ah
cool.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Well, dude, that's awesome.
I am super stoked that you likeactivated park.
How do you feel?

Speaker 4 (22:14):
I guess that's the question I always ask every
activator well, it wasinteresting because I mean, I've
done a ton of contesting, um,that can say it is different,
but it's um, once you startgetting into the vibe, um, you
start, you start melding ascript in your brain and you're

(22:37):
like, oh, this is easy, let's go.
Next call.
Okay, I got 19, 18, okay, guys,I've got, I got, uh, I've got
eight more to go to activatethis part.
I've got five more to go.
Come on, guys, let's go.
You know it was fun, it was, itwas.
It was fun and I had, um, I hadcharlie with me and I had

(22:58):
isabelle in the back, uh, my twolittle co-pilots, and they were
quiet, they were calm, and wejust sat in the air conditioning
and, uh, I did, uh, I I did mycontacts and I'm chasing
mosquitoes yeah, I can imagine,do well your door.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
So is your door open still, or what?

Speaker 4 (23:16):
oh yeah, it's open and, trust me, if I turned on my
truck, you guys wouldn't hearme.
I can imagine probably rf.
Hey, um, eric, do you have atoyota?

Speaker 1 (23:26):
uh, no, that's paul, I don't buy uh ram.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
All the way, my friend oh well, see, you can't
do this, let me see do what Icould do that in my ram.

Speaker 1 (23:39):
Can you see my ceiling?
Yeah, I choose to put that onthe backside of my chair.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
I see it the backside of my tube I see a 10th
Mountain in there.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
What are those?

Speaker 4 (23:49):
Yeah, 10th Mountain.
Yep, and then my unit patchright there somewhere.
But yeah, 10th Mountain.
I'm originally from New York.
That's my favorite unit.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
Dude, I swear.
I think ham radio operatorsshould get into patches.
I think that'd be a cool thingto do.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
I have a coronavirus too.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
We all did at one time.

Speaker 5 (24:15):
How do they stick up there Velcro?

Speaker 1 (24:20):
All the best.
Oh yeah, yeah, you know, Ithink it's funny because last
night on HRC they were talkingabout challenge coins and stuff
like that.
I was looking at them like ohman, that's expensive.
But I'm like dude, I wantpatches.
I think patches are way cooler.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
Patches would be awesome.
Challenge coins are reallysuper cool, but they're really
super expensive, yeah.
Oh my god yes, you have to buythem a lot, yep, and you can't
buy like five or ten, you haveto buy like 150, yeah, yeah yeah
, it's pretty, it's too superexpensive, but I can get it with
patches.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
And I think patches are we should.
We should raise the bar and sayno more challenge coins and
everything should be patches.
And you know, I would love tobe able to coat my you know,
backside of all of my seats inthe back of my truck with all of
the ham radio patches.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
Would be cool that would be cool.
Oh yeah, dodge has all thatfuzzy stuff on the back of the
seat, don't they?

Speaker 1 (25:15):
yep yep, I got flag and torch patches, if anybody
needs one okay, when I createmine, I'll swap you one, so
we'll definitely have to addthat to the list there oh yeah
cool.
Well, todd over to you, buddy, what's been going on.
You know anything new?
I mean, obviously we just cameoff of our recorded episode

(25:36):
there, so it's like you know oldhat.
Hey, there we go.

Speaker 5 (25:39):
Hey, kevin, good to see you in there, man um, yeah,
I uh, I like I said it before toyou guys, but I'll let mike and
everyone on the live streamthough.
I uh had to do a trip down toflorida for a day supposed to
get in 11 pm, got in at four inthe morning, got three hours of
sleep, wasn't brought all myproto gear down and wasn't able

(26:00):
to activate a park because I hadto catch a plane back.
So I lugged it down and didn'teven open it up.
So that was kind ofdisappointing.
But you know, besides that, nothing really else going on.
I missed field day.
I had to take my son to tryoutsfor the travel team and I got

(26:25):
home I started doing stuffaround the home and I totally
forgot about field day untileric said, hey, did you stop by
field day?
I was like, oh shit, I totallyforgot.
I was so freaking tired.
I was like, yeah, I'm not goingto that.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
So I totally missed it too, don't feel bad.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
So, dude, that brings up an interesting point, like
paul, you didn't do field day, Ididn't do field day.
You guys definitely said youdidn't do field day.
Like I feel like it's like youeither did like your own field
day by yourself or maybe one ortwo guys, or you didn't do field
day at all.
I think that, like I feel likewe're in that season again, like
is that your same feeling?

(27:03):
You guys feel the same way.
Oh, yeah yeah, I don't know, man, I was, just wasn't the same
this year.
No it wasn't.

Speaker 4 (27:11):
No, yeah it's.
It's definitely an off feelingthis year, yeah well, hey, we'll
throw out the chat.

Speaker 1 (27:20):
How was your field day?
Any of you guys uh, you knowactually attend field day?
Did you have a good experience?
If not, you know, did you do onyour own or did you do it all?
I'm curious.
You know, throw in the chat, let us know.
We'll continue thisconversation going forward.
But hey, we're, we're at likethe, the, the half hour here
mark.
So, like I said and we teased,it's a 500 subscriber giveaway.
So when we say giveaway, wemean we're giving shit away.

(27:44):
It's a simple way.
We're 30 minutes in, so I canuse their s word.
So I think we're okay.
We're not at a thousand, sowe're fine.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
You know, no problem there, I'm pretty sure like we
were three or four minutes inwhen I dropped the first so, you
know, this is our first timeand you have to give us, we're
virgins.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Here we're gonna try to use the, you know the, the
giveaway page here with in ebmux, because we got away from, you
know, stream yard, because, god, they wanted to take my first
born kid and, you know, chargeme, uh, you know almost, uh, you
know two mortgage payments.
So, uh, you know we're we'reswitching gears here.
So we're gonna try the giveawaypage here real quick and let me

(28:28):
flip over to that real quick.
You guys, oh, good, excellent, you're all there.
So we're not gonna use suck assas the.
You know the first one herethat was just kind of what's in
there.
So let's, let's change the key.
Okay, we'll find we'll.
We'll use the keyword for suckass, so let's, let's put it out
there.
So, uh, we're gonna give away acouple things tonight, but so

(28:50):
the first one I'm gonna throwout there we'll start a little
low.
Um, you know, well, low is it.
We'll say we'll start small andso we're gonna give away.
Uh, matt sent us a whole bunchof, uh, great reliance and
tennis stuff.
Um, you know, crouch is alreadyman.
We haven't already started yet,he's already thrown into the
ring.
Matt sent us a whole bunch ofgreat Reliance Antenna stuff.
Yeah, grouch is already man.
We haven't already started yet,he's already thrown it into the

(29:11):
ring.
So we're going to give away.
For the first giveaway here,we're going to give away the RF
Choke.
So if you've gone over toReliance Antenna, I got a review
coming out on Thursday.
So if you can wait till then, you can check that, that out.
But if you can't, you know, jump into the.

(29:31):
You know the giveaway herewe're going to give away one of
the your choice either the smallchoke or the large choke.
And just so you know, the largechoke is a 200 watt, um, you
know, rf choke and allows 200,uh, sorry, yeah, 200 watts, uh,
sideband and, uh, you know, 100watts, uh, digital, cw.
And then the smaller version is100 watts and 60 watts, uh,
digital and cw.
Uh, you know, uh, you knowappropriately.

(29:53):
So your choice.
You can tell us which one youwant in the chat, um, so you
know if you want in on that one.
This is the first giveaway.
Keyword is suck ass.
So jump on in.
And uh, let's get this goinghere.
Actually, I don't want to startthat, I was gonna say damn I
don't want to do that one at all.

(30:14):
So let's stop it.
So this is the tool here.
We're figuring this shit outhere as we go.
So I have never, I have neverdone this through this tool.
I'm'm so used to, you know, streamyard.
It's literally just made mylife.
So please, you know, throwsuck-ass pound sign, suck-ass
caps in the chat there.
And you know, in a bit we'llcome back to that.

(30:37):
And you know, we're on thegiveaway there, paul's going to
win.
I know right, exactly.
We cannot have Paul Paul'sgoing to get one either way, so
paul does not need to be in thegiveaway I just, I can, I can, I
just say that you, youdefinitely showed your age by
saying pound sign yeah, I knowsorry, hashtag right when we

(31:03):
were growing up it was a fuckingpound sign totally dude, like
because pound sign was like okay, you had to hit pound sign on a
phone touch pad to be able tomake you know a connection to an
operator like pound nine, nineor whatever yep, exactly nine
one, whatever would be the case.
Yeah, totally, yep, you knowthat, that we're fucking old

(31:23):
guys, so I don't know outside ofthat, uh, yeah, what else is
going on for you guys?
Anything uh crazy new uh on thehorizon for you guys.
I mean obviously paul's, youknow, skydiving this weekend.
But mike, you're, you're awareright now I am in northwest
pennsylvania um.

Speaker 4 (31:41):
We own some property up, is that where the Allegheny
National Forest is exactly I canget out of my truck and throw a
rock and hit the forest, but um, yeah it's.
It's been raining up here likeunbelievable for the last two

(32:02):
weeks.
I pulled into my yard and mytruck sank three inches.
I was like, yeah, I think theyard's a little wet, so let me
back out and move over here.
The wife was like you'retearing up the yard.
I said I'm not tearing anythingup, I just pulled in.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
That's when you just romp on the throttle and start
fucking, whipping, fuckingdonuts in the mud.
Oh, let's see, just romp on thethrottle and start fucking,
whipping, fucking donuts in themud.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
Oh, let's see, I have a little patch of grass on the
front yard.
Now, that would not be a goodidea.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Ah, fuck it, you don't need it.

Speaker 4 (32:35):
Oh yeah, I like my little patch of grass.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Get rid of the grass, and then you don't have to mow
it.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
I love grass.
I lived in Arizona.
We had a little patch of grass.
I look back at satellite shotsof the house that we lived in.
They have no grass anymorethere.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
I was so upset yes, george, I have one I can let you
borrow.
I can borrow from my dad.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
I did bring up the antenna which antenna.
I brought up the antenna.
Which antenna?
I brought up the base camp minithat I bought at near fest and
I am going to mount itpermanently to the house because
obviously it's a base camp andhow do you like?

Speaker 1 (33:18):
like matt, I mean, that's a good antenna, but how
do you like it?

Speaker 4 (33:21):
oh, dude, um, okay, I don't like disparage other
antennas, but I have a 56 to 1.
My antennas um at the house,it's permanently.
His antenna is so much quieter.
Oh, my god, it is, it's.
It's three to five dbs quieterthan the my antennas 56 to 1.

(33:43):
Wow, yeah, blew my mind and Iwas.
I I told matt about that.
I was like dude, your antennarocks.
It is so much quieter than uh,than this uh commercial antenna.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
So yeah, his filters are freaking phenomenal, like I
I can't tell you like Iliterally was like all right,
we're gonna play this game.
So I started my truck because Iknew my uh, you know, uh, if
you um the, not the fuel, thefuel pump was basically super
noisy in general for the hf sideof stuff.
So I started the truck.
Oh yeah, I was sitting andliterally that filter knocked

(34:18):
the crap out of it, the totalband pass.
It was awesome.
I was like my gosh, it wasquiet as hell.
So they're, they are reallygood, you know, based off of
what he's built anyways, so youknow yeah, it reminds the car,
whatever fine you know it's,it's still knock the noise down.
Hey, you know, the noise breakerworks really great on hf you're
right.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
So yeah, that was phenomenal well, while we're
waiting for people to put poundsuck ass.
In the chat we got a bunch ofcomments about field day.
Prefham Paul, he wrote goodtimes with Frank the tank at a
park.
We got three days of podactivations.

(34:59):
Brad Parker, he wrote did itwith the club club?
He had antenna issues but stilla good time, okay, uh, tango
oscar.
Mike tom, he put club field day.
Did some go to coaching?
We had a good time nice, nice, which absolutely fantastic on

(35:22):
the Gota.
And then Kevin K0KLB, he saidhe was out in the cornfield with
the dog.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
Best time ever.
Was he also activated?
Was he also actually part ofyour station?
Did you count him as a contact?

Speaker 2 (35:42):
And TJ here.
He said he went to Club's fieldday for a few hours, went home
and operated as a one deltauntil midnight dude nice, nice,
that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Make sure, when you throw in your logs, that you
give credit to n1qc.
That way it will go back to theclub very cool.

Speaker 2 (36:03):
Yeah, always, always, throw in one qc in there.
Yep, queen charlie, that's thethe cq heard around the world,
is it?

Speaker 1 (36:13):
I don't know.
Last time I checked it wasclose.
But no, you don't remember mysong.
I do, I do.
Yeah, we haven't played that ina while.
You should dig that one back upagain, very cool, so all right,
well, we're getting uh closehere.
So we got a couple other thingsto give away.
So let's go back to thegiveaway page here and let's uh

(36:34):
run the lovely utility here.
See if I can actually figureout how to do this damn thing
here.
Um, let's go back to layershere.
This will be the first time, soyou know forgive me for, uh,
you know screwing this up.
All right, well, let's uh goahead and run it.
We got 15 here in the chat and22 total, so it's a good number
there.
Let's kick the start button offand see who wins the uh

(36:56):
decision for the rf choke there.
Their choice for either thelarge or the small.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
It's actually not gonna be a detoss, the large or
the small good question, we'llsee.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
Nope, nope, that doesn't work, man, this, this
sucks ass, oh wait oh, no, it's,it's it's a price is right,
wheel, exactly right.
yeah, there you go, all right.
Whiskey five, papa, india, alpha, jason, cool.

(37:43):
Well, dude, congrats, jason.
Dude, you do me a favor.
Send me an email at live freeand ham at gmailcom.
Um, let me know which size youwant.
You can head over to matt'swebsite to kind of get an idea,
um, and we will get that out.
Uh, make sure your, if your qrzinformation is different than
what you got up there.
Uh, send that an email, otherwise, otherwise I'll use

(38:04):
what's in QRZ andcongratulations Nice, awesome,
cool, hell, yeah, hey, wefigured out the chat stuff.
Guys, we're rocking Woo-hoo.

Speaker 4 (38:17):
Hey, just to let everybody know in the chat, I'm
running bare bones here.
All I can see is our stuff.
So I saw some people said hello.
I'm just saying hello because Ican't get the.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
I can't do anything, I'm just here he's on the phone,
so you know he's.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
No, I'm not actually I know I'm on a laptop, but I
just.
It's so far away from me Ican't see the damn thing see I
was.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
I was gonna say you're doing like to where um.
The other day he was in his, inhis board and uh, jim had to do
all the comments and everythingthat's funny, very cool.
Uh, eric, I don't know if yougot my message, but I want to
throw one one thing into thegiveaway.
I will give away anything frommy store other than a hoodie.

(39:11):
Okay, there you go.
So any t-shirt, any coffee mughat, just not a hoodie.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
Well, you want to run that now, those are fucking
expensive.
I know right.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
You want to run that now and you want to give us a
keyword or what um, yeah, allright here, let me uh, I'll,
I'll put the link to, uh, linkto the the store, in the chat
and um, yeah, pick up, pick agood keyword.
You know something grouchysomething grouchy.

Speaker 1 (39:43):
Okay, there we go something.
Here we go um, and I thiselijah craig coming in the ass,
something even better if youfuck it up and the shadows to

(40:06):
figure it out it's gonna bepretty bad.
I'll make it a little easybecause you know, here we go uh.
You know, uh, let's do how thehell you reset here.
All right, there we go, resetthere we go something grouchy,
there we go, that's, that's thekeyword.
Let's break this down here sopeople can see that that's the

(40:27):
keyword, my friend.
So, uh, we'll, uh, we'll putthis.
Actually, we can resize thishere.
That way we don't have to keepswitching views here.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
So awesome thank you jason for the three dollar super
chat nice, there we go.

Speaker 1 (40:39):
Bring this into full view, that way you can see both.
All right, so the keyword issomething grouchy.
If you want to get in on, uh,the giveaway for paul's, uh, you
know from his store anythingexcept a hoodie no, yeah,
anything other than a hoodie oh,let's keep screwing.
Cool, all right, we'll see aboutthat grouchy.

(41:00):
Oh, awesome, all right.
Well, you know.
So we didn't do field day, butuh, anybody actually get it.
I mean, did you do anything atall, like in the confines of
field day weekend, or you just?
You basically just ignore itall together who me?

Speaker 5 (41:16):
anybody, anybody I didn't do it.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
No, I know you didn't do any radio at all.

Speaker 4 (41:21):
Mike, none of you I packed on saturday and drove
sunday nine hours straight to uhfrom massachusetts to uh lovely
walls of northwest va.
oh cool, yeah, I mean literallynine hour drive and yeah, it's,

(41:42):
it's harsh, I if you're justtrying to push through and
you've got dogs, you've got tostop, you got to let them out.
You know, you got to stop yourgas because this thing has a gas
tank the size of a freaking mopbucket.
So, yeah, this thing's terrible.

(42:02):
I need a real gas tank.
Hey, I'm going to start um, um,what is that?
Uh, I'm gonna start one ofthose, uh, those pages there go
fund me page so I could spendthe 2800 for the new fuel tank
upgrade kit on this thing I wish.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
I wish you all the best.
Uh, I did a dual fund me forskydiving and I got a.
I got 125 dollars.
100 of it was from todd and 25was from his friend.

Speaker 4 (42:34):
Yeah, I would have known that you had one I would
have.

Speaker 5 (42:40):
She watches, uh, your skydiving.
She thinks it's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (42:43):
Well, you know, if you actually listen to live free
ham regularly, you'd realizethat we actually advertise a
button all the time up at ouryou know live free hamcom
webpage up in the top right-handcorner, if you want to help out
.
You know the grouch there.
What are you working on?
Your B license or D license?
What's the?
What's the next license thatyou're?

Speaker 2 (43:01):
working on no, so B b is the next one and I should
have the b by the end of themonth.
Um, but uh, I, I actually Itook the gofundme down.
So if, if you want tocontribute, um, you know, super
chats is kind of probably thebest way, okay all right.

Speaker 1 (43:18):
Well, thanks for the the the communication there.
As a ham radio operator, youknow, let know I can take the
button down.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
In all fairness, I just took it down yesterday and
thank you, ziggy, for the $1.75.
Much appreciated, nice job.

Speaker 1 (43:35):
Awesome, cool, all right, good on Jason, and I'll
make sure we get him out thatSuper chat.
Oh no, mike's on the computerthere now we're in trouble.
So awesome, I don't know.
Outside of that, uh, you know,I, uh, I have to say uh for
those that you know are noticed.
At least on my channel I got anicer review coming out with an

(43:59):
antenna, but uh, or not anantenna, with a, you know,
obviously rf choke, but but Iwas able to actually work there,
you know good with NONOG andChris and Radio Life.
There it was good to makecontact with those guys.
I think the bands are getting alittle bit better.
I don't know what you guys feelon that one oh, for sure yeah,

(44:24):
I haven't been on lately so Icouldn't tell you.
Well, we're a good supporting, you know, community here.
We can give you a great thing.
You know up-to-the-minute infothere, mike.

Speaker 5 (44:34):
I'm just waiting for you guys to tell me the bands
are the bands when 10 Metersopens up.
Let me know 10 Meters will openin the fall.

Speaker 2 (44:45):
Yeah, you have to wait, right like it's, just
because, because we'resummertime, like it is what it
is, 10 meters is not going to begood in the summertime, yeah,
but no, there's, there's a,there's a lot of fading and
stuff, but you know the bandsaren't bad, thank you.

Speaker 1 (45:04):
Thank you, michael, really appreciate that sorry, I
clicked the button by accidentit's all good.

Speaker 2 (45:13):
No, no, thank you, thank you, thank you yeah, very
cool.

Speaker 1 (45:17):
Yeah, dude, it's kind of funny like I keep forgetting
.
Every year, like right aroundthis time, six meters is always
on fire.
It's always, like, you know, everyone talks about the magic
band and how great it is, andnot that I'm gonna slight mike,
because mike does a freakingawesome job.
You know, picking up all thosebands and doing you know all the
, you know the activity aroundthose bands.

(45:37):
But, like, every time I hop onsix meters like I get dead air.
I you know it's just like a badthing for me, so I kind of just
ignore it and, you know, waittill you know we get past six
meters and then get back to hfhey, did you watch any of those
um the cb?

Speaker 5 (45:56):
uh, youtube, oh the lawn moment.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
My gosh, my head is spinning like I hate it.
Oh my gosh that totally.

Speaker 5 (46:04):
I was like, yep, I.
I was like, yep, I was on therun, I'm going to go get one of
those CB radios and give it ashot.
And then I was like no,freaking way.
I'm like no, no, no.

Speaker 4 (46:17):
I've got an 891 for that.

Speaker 1 (46:21):
For those that are subscribers to Live Free and Ham
the podcast and even thepodcast, and even you know the
youtube channel.
We had walt on because we theprevious episode before we were
like paul was talking about cband how great.
You know he uses cb to talk tothe truckers during traffic jams
and we're like dude ways solvesthat problem for you.
You don't have to talk toanybody to figure out what the

(46:42):
traffic reports are and they'relike well, we're gonna have walt
on because you know walt's thebig cb guy.
So we had walt on.
Um, I did not.
I am reporting here today.
You heard it live on this livestream.
I have not gone over to n1og'shouse yet and picked up the the
bear cat yet.
I am reluctant to right nowbecause I've got way too much on

(47:06):
my freaking plate that if Itook that radio it would
probably just be better sittingat home than it would be in my
shack doing nothing.

Speaker 2 (47:14):
So yeah, it's just sitting in my house doing
nothing true, okay, so that's it.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
yeah, that's a scanner, though that's not a,
that's not a you, though that'snot a CB radio.

Speaker 4 (47:27):
Well, I've got an 885 that has a scanner built into
it, dude.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (47:34):
You pick up the unit in 885.
It's got an antenna there andno matter where you go in the
country, it automaticallyprograms the scanner for you.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
you okay, yeah, dude, so fancy, uh, very fancy, I
agree, but I dude, I okay, I'mgonna confess like I am not a
swl, you know, scanner listener.
I like I had an aunt growing upas a kid who listened to it,
but I was like, dude, I want tofreaking talk.

(48:05):
I don't want to listen topeople talk on the radio through
a scanner.
So I never really like jumpedon the scanner bad wagon.
So I never really like I had.
It's kind of funny because likeI had four bear cat, oh man, I
can't remember what the modelswere, but uh, they were p25,
they were pretty much like youknow, full blown, you know, uh,

(48:25):
encrypted units and the wholenine yards.
I just gave them away toanother ham that actually did
some short way of listeningbecause, like I, they were doing
nothing for me and like well, part of the problem now, like if
you're into scanners and likelistening to police and stuff,
everything is, uh, encrypted.

Speaker 5 (48:41):
So it's not like when I was a kid and you could hear
everything that was going on inthe conversation, like mike is
clenching his butt.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
No, no, no, not everything is encrypted.
Everything went to p25, digital, so like.
And when I lived in nashvillegod bless, I uh I was getting
calls from all the radiostations or TV stations because
we did a lot of their radio workfor them.
We put their two-way radios andtheir helicopters and a bunch

(49:15):
of stuff, but they had scannersset up in the newsroom.
And they called me one morningand said Nashville Fire and
Nashville Police went digital orsomething.
We can't hear them anymore.
And I'm like, uh, no, theydidn't go digital, they went p25
, uh, fully digital.
And and they're like so what dowe do?

(49:38):
I said you're gonna spend somemoney for a nice digital scanner
now, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (49:43):
So our, our two of our largest cities, and they're
not large, but you know, for newhampshire there are two.
They all went um digital.
You can still get the fire andthe ambulance, but the police,
uh, they all went digitalbecause the internet had a bunch
of guys posting news stationsand they were showing up to like

(50:04):
shootings and stuff before thepolice, wow, and it was causing
a problem.
So manchester I think theyspent 250 000 to encrypt all
their channels.
They get new radios and stuff.
They had one channel that wasencrypted but they needed more.
So once they did it, thennashville, the second largest
city, they followed suit.

(50:26):
And now you I used to listen tothem and now you get nothing.

Speaker 4 (50:30):
So unless you have their radios, you're not
listening to crap well, most ofthe most of the um um paging is
analog because of digital pagesare expensive and um most most
most of their straight uh pagingum is analog.

Speaker 5 (50:47):
Still it should be yeah, our state police and
county and stuff.
They're still analog so you canstill get that, but as soon as
they like, if there's a swatincident in the state police,
swat they mean that goesencrypted.
They have encrypted channels.
So you basically hear aroundhere, you just hear the stupid
bullshit like oh, can you go to391 main street for a domestic,

(51:11):
you know, or can you do awelfare, or what do they call?

Speaker 4 (51:15):
it not a welfare check?

Speaker 5 (51:18):
yeah, welfare check at this and so uh, well, we just
did.

Speaker 4 (51:24):
We just did uh four it was two and two and a half
million dollar upgrade for newhampshire electric cooperative.
Now they went digital but theywent dmr and they did uh
capacity max um 14 sites.
We did their system.
We just did that last year.

(51:46):
Absolutely beautiful system too, yeah all right.

Speaker 1 (51:51):
Well, we're getting at the top of the hour, guys,
real quick, we'll keep going, but, uh, you know, at 10 o'clock
we'll, uh you know, run thenext giveaway there for the
grouch.
So if you haven't jumped in, Isee poto power in there and, uh,
you know, I did star real quick.
Uh, man, I, how the hell do wedo this?
Oh, there we go.
Uh, yeah, go to the filter.
So you know my to, which shouldbe oto.

(52:15):
We need to call him oto.
I think that's a proper way ofsaying it, instead of just
calling them yto, oto.

Speaker 4 (52:22):
No, the other TO.
I am Julie's TO.
I'm sorry you are.

Speaker 1 (52:28):
But you know, that's kind of in terms of endearment.
You know, I think for thegeneral populace it should be
OTO.

Speaker 4 (52:36):
Okay.
Well, I know Vaughn would kickmy ass anyway.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
so so what I want to know, though right is if we go
down to Florida, is Julie goinggonna give us a tour of the
villages?
Because I just want to.
I want to sightsee the shit outof the villages I want to see
all the different coloredscrunchies I thought it was

(53:01):
lupus, yeah, yeah, it's probablyboth.

Speaker 1 (53:08):
Yeah, probably both.
Dude, yeah, we love Podopower.
We had the Bond and those guysrock Bond and Julie.
You know both characters in andof their own right and you know
, dude, we love Podopower.
And you know, keep doing whatyou're doing, guys.

Speaker 4 (53:24):
Awesome stuff yeah hope to see you guys in
Huntsville.

Speaker 1 (53:27):
Go watch Potapower yeah, so those that are on the
chat, you know the rest of theLiv Freedham cronies, me and
Todd are not going to be atHuntsville, so Paul is going to
be representing us 110%, sowe're shipping a crap ton of
stickers and other stuff to him.
So if you want some good leafyham stuff, seek him out.

(53:50):
What's what side are you, paul?

Speaker 2 (53:52):
let him know okay, site number 33 from the 11th to
the 18th at montesano state park.
That's where you will find methere you go.

Speaker 1 (54:02):
So yeah, you want some good stuff.
I might except for friday, whenI'm jumping with carlos yeah,
true, right, well, let's tell us, yeah, yeah, we'll, we'll throw
in a couple extra goodies.
I got a couple of stuff, uh,you know, from reliance antenna
and a few other things.
I think we'll throw in there.
Paul can give away.
So, you know, if you, you, youwant some swag, you want some
good stuff, you know, seek paulout, you know, you know where to
find, find the grouch, or justask for the grouch, you know,

(54:25):
and they'll, they'll point youin the right direction julie's
got me yes, there you go, I gotyour tour, grouch, nice job, all
right.
Well we're, we're at the top ofthe hour here, so let's uh
finally run this, uh, you know, and give away for the grouch in
that wheel wheel.
Oh, fish, all right, come on.

(54:46):
What the heck is it there?
We?
Go all right, there we go.

Speaker 4 (54:50):
The wheel is running, dude, we can't see that you
whiner, there we go yeah, I wantyou to put it right behind
everybody.

Speaker 1 (54:59):
No dude, give me a second.
So sorry, I'm not moving fastenough for you, mike.

Speaker 4 (55:07):
No, it's the first time for everything.
No, kidding.
All right, so.

Speaker 2 (55:13):
Frequency Frontier is going to be at 60.
So I guarantee if I don't seeyou at Site 60, I'll see you at
Site 51A when we have coffeewith Carlos.
Carlos, yep.

Speaker 4 (55:24):
Oh, here we go, rolling, rolling down I might
just take a plane and fly downthere we go all right okay, well
, there you go.

Speaker 1 (55:38):
So if uh 75 own ham, uh, you know, hit me up, or
actually hit the grouch up, so,grouch, go ahead.
Give me your email and that wayuh, yeah, so ziggy.

Speaker 2 (55:48):
Uh, just just send me a message in discord.
Let me know what it is that youwant out of my store.
Uh, anything other than ahoodie, and uh, I'll send it
your way I have a question howdoes 75 ohms work with ham radio
?

Speaker 4 (56:03):
It works, it works.

Speaker 2 (56:05):
Paul knows, but it works.

Speaker 1 (56:07):
He's tried to do it several times with coax at 75
ohms.
How did that go?

Speaker 2 (56:14):
Yeah, no, it works.
He wants a hoodie.
Yeah, of course, ziggy wants ahoodie.

Speaker 1 (56:22):
We're going to send you the half, half crop top
version, you know whatever verycool.
So, uh, you are so with.
Uh, you know, um, I freakingcan't do this, you know?

(56:43):
Help me out here, man.
My brain is like Huntsville.
Thank you, we really need tofigure out how to rename these
so they're like not all the sameH's, I'm getting to like 51 now
at this point.

Speaker 2 (56:56):
Orlando and then Dayton and then Huntsville.

Speaker 1 (57:01):
Okay, so Huntsville, fine.
Well, that'll make it a littleeasier, hopefully, as I lock it
in my brain.
So yeah, yeah, what?
Uh?
So you're just jumping, you'regoing to maybe partake in any of
the other stuff that's going ondown there.

Speaker 2 (57:14):
As far as what?

Speaker 1 (57:15):
Uh well, I know Tio's got a ton of stuff going on.
I mean, he's been doing a lotof videos and stuff like that
for four days in August orwhatever that they're working on
.

Speaker 2 (57:25):
Yeah, well, so the four days in August is turning
into five days in August, because you know there's a few
of us that are going to be therefor five days instead of four.
But yeah, no, there's a wholebunch of cool stuff being
planned.
If you're not in the ToadsDiscord it's, there's a channel,
uh, it's called huntsville fdia, um, and and everything is is

(57:51):
in there.
Plus, there's been a coupleplanning live streams, um.
But yeah, there's going to be,uh, it's going to be mesh tastic
, uh stuff going on on wednesday.
There's going to be, uh, Ithink, gigaparts, uh, on
thursday, um, we're we'reworking out some details on uh,

(58:13):
on some other things.
Like, there's a ton of coolstuff going on the anti-forum is
what to calls it, and I I digthat because, well, but so, like
, all right, listen, I'm ahands-on person.
Like I can sit in a seminar andI can take in information, but
it's not the same as if, likeI'm I've got my hands on and I'm

(58:38):
building something withsomebody, right, like I can
solder it.
I mean, it's not great, but Ican do it.
It's way better than fuckingfrank.
Sorry, frank, but listen, yousuck at soldering.
You just need to practice more,um, but you know, but so I, I

(59:00):
think, I think the concept isfantastic, right, like, uh, it's
where you know, you go and andsomebody teaches you something
but you learn how to do it withyour hands, like for somebody
like me that that is a hands-onlearner, like that's just,
that's ideal, you know.
So I'm glad they're doing it.
Um, I'm I'm pumped, dude.

(59:21):
This year, this whole year, isfull of like things that I've
always wanted to do and I just Ialways said, well, someday I'm
gonna do that, all right, someday I'm gonna go skydiving.
Someday I'm gonna go to a bigham fest.
Someday I'm gonna travel aroundthe country in an rv and I'm
gonna live an an RV life.
I'm fucking doing it, man, andI love it.

(59:45):
I got and not only I wasactually talking to somebody
last night like I'moverachieving my goals for this
year.
Like I set out as one of mygoals to get my A license in
skydiving, I'm going to leavehere with my B license and

(01:00:06):
skydive, wow, oh, jesus, michael, you turn all the lights off.

Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
Ooh romantic Michael Uh whiskey.

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Uh, charlie, juliet Lima.
That's Chris, right?
Yes, actually, good night.
Good night, chris.
Thanks for being here beforeyou go.

Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
Before you go, I need to know has parker ready for
his test?

Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
oh yeah, july 12th.
July 12th, we're talking.
We're talking about changing itfrom in person to remote, so
I'm just gonna see if I can getthe v's okay.

Speaker 1 (01:00:48):
Oh, I didn't know you were you roped into that?

Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
that's cool okay no, dude, I I told you you had to
run the in-person session oh, no, just so that.

Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
Yeah so, but park is not part of that.
Yeah, no, he's.
He's part of something he'swith Glarg.

Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
Yeah, but so what?
Why can't he jump in on oursession?

Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
He can, but like I think he's already registered
with Glarg, so what?
Yeah, okay, fine, I don't liketo steal, that's my, you know my
.

Speaker 2 (01:01:17):
I'm a Glarg V2.

Speaker 1 (01:01:26):
I don't give a shit, okay, fine, whatever you know,
chris, you know you, let us know, hit me up, uh, you know via
email and we'll.

Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
We'll see what we can do?

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
yeah, because paul's apparently got a lot of extra
time on his hand I don't, butlike I'm I'm I'm passionate
about ve testing, and so if wecan get, if we can get new ham's
license, let's do it.
Man, well, dude, he's alreadyregistered with glarg.

Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
So it's like I'm like , okay, dude, as long as you're
within the two weeks, and so farhe is.
So I think, uh, you know, I'mhoping we'll have some good
success and he'll uh announcethat he's got his technician.
So those that don't know, longshort, I had a video that I
posted on my channel where Iactivated with Chris and, you

(01:02:07):
know, parker, his son, was anunlicensed what the heck was
that?
Mike Dogs and, long story short, parker was working to get his
technician and I said, hey, I'mgoing to sweeten the deal, I'm
going to throw an antenna yourway.
So I gave him a buddy pole proand I said, in two weeks, sign
up for your register.

(01:02:28):
You know, sign up forregistering and getting your
technician, and he's locked inwith Glarg.
So I'm hoping, you know, youknow, by the end of this weekend
he'll have able to report backthat he has got his call sign
and and ready to go.
So all good, but yeah, I'mlooking forward to it oh yeah,

(01:02:55):
cool, sweet, uh, php, what the?

Speaker 2 (01:02:56):
I'm just catching up here on the chat here, sorry
guys.
Yeah, no.
So so prepam paul said in thechat.
He said he said gonna do somepodo with php is what he's gonna
do.
And I was like php, I don't, Idon't know, I don't know what
php is.

Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
So you gotta help me out there, paul paul, if you're,
if you're bored and you want tocome join paul, paul will hit
you up with the link.
So feel free to jump in thechat here and then hang out with
us.
You know you're more thanwelcome to come than welcome to
come join us.
So, paul, if you want to throwthat out to him and discord or
wherever, be awesome love tohave him on, cool, alright.
Well, we're getting close tothe quarter of the hour here and

(01:03:33):
we'll start the second giveawayand go from there, but keep
that coming.
Wow, mike, I see you in fullview now.
Man, it's a little weird.
Where the heck are you?

Speaker 4 (01:03:49):
yeah, too close.
My battery started dying and Iwas like nope, I better go and
plug it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
Got it michael, all right, listen real quick, right.
So you just, you just gave oneof those right, and so I always
do that Like yeah, fuck, yeah.
But I never realized that thehand that I do it with says live
, and so it's like yeah, fuckinglive, man, I don't have that,

(01:04:22):
just fucking live, live Well yougot gotta bring the other part
to it, right, come on like livefree, my friend, we gotta get
this on a shirt.

Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
Man, this, this was not prompted by us at live free
and ham at all.
Paul had done this way before,so it was kind of like a
precursor to live free and hamand it just kind of like made
senseor to live free and ham andit just kind of like made sense
, ask him where the, the and hamis.
Yeah Right, true, that's on the.
You know we won't say wherethat is, I'm a grower, not a

(01:04:52):
shower.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
I thought you were it just it just says ham, and then
, and then it grows and it saysand ham, oh, it just says ham,
and then it grows and it saysand ham, oh right, it's the Ed
Fong extension version, ed Dong, whatever we'll call it.
Now the funny thing was right is, you know, anything below the

(01:05:16):
wrist tattoo-wise was a bigno-no.
Right in the military Couldn'thave anything below the wrist
Because when you were wearingyour uniform it couldn't show.
And so when I finally decidedthat I was going to put
something below the wrist, Isaid what do I want to do?
And?
And I said you know what?
Live free on my fuckingknuckles, that's what I want.

(01:05:39):
And uh, I, I went to uh salem, new hampshire, to uh, I think
it's majestic tattoo is the nameof the place.
And I said I wanted to looklike somebody carved the letters
out of my skin, and I thinkthey did a great job.

Speaker 1 (01:05:55):
like I mean the floats.
Yeah nice, they definitelycould read it.
That's good stuff.
That's hard to do on that.
You know that small of a spacebad.

Speaker 4 (01:06:05):
That hurts on the knuckles oh, I can imagine dude
no, knuckles weren't bad.

Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
Uh, honestly, um, spine is really painful,
collarbone is really painful, but it's not painful in on the
collarbone like you would think.

Speaker 1 (01:06:21):
It actually hurts your nipple, what, yeah, like
here's an interesting story hewas going to town on my
collarbone and my nipple washurting the nipple hurts more
and the reason why, I know, ismy son decided to get a buffalo
on the side of his, you know, basically chest, you know area,

(01:06:44):
and literally it goes all theway down and the the artist
basically was like dude, I got acolor in the nipple and you can
imagine like his pain, becausemy sister and my daughter has a
video of him wincing in pain ashe's trying to make the nipple
black.
Ouch, it was painful, you know.
So yeah well, you know, it'skind of weird position wise for

(01:07:10):
a buffalo, because the head's alittle lower in the the image,
but it came out nice.
But at the same time I'm likedude, I don't know how you did
that like I, you know, I I hatedmy tattoo and being underneath
the armpit, which is like supersensitive and it's like what the
hell this sucks.
And you know, I was likethere's nothing on the outside
because that's where theystarted.

(01:07:30):
And then, once I got to themiddle, I was like, oh my gosh,
what the frick is going on here.
And so, yeah, I, I, I, I.
I made the mistake.
If those of you guys saw thevideo, I was like one of those
typical hams.
I was like, fuck, I'm going toget my call sign on the back of
my arm with the you know thearrow, you know, with the, the
uh own logo and stuff like that.

(01:07:50):
So, yeah, I'm, I'm one of thosepeople that you'll forever
laugh at.

Speaker 4 (01:07:55):
And a resistor ground .
So yeah, so.

Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
I got that.

Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
I got the answer to what PHP is.
It's Prepampol.
Hold on.

Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
Yeah, it's.
It took you this long.

Speaker 1 (01:08:11):
I was thinking PHP was more of a hypertext markup
language in HTML.
But you know, that was just.
You know way beyond.

Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
That's what I was thinking.
I was like nerd, I don't knowcode man.
You're a nerd.
That's what I was thinking.
I was like nerd, I don't knowcode man.

Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
You're a nerd.
That's what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
But yes, I will definitely be doing Parks on the
Air and Prep Amp All you better.
Fucking be there with me, we'llunroll together.

Speaker 1 (01:08:38):
Dude, you have a golden moment.
If you do not take advantage ofthe fact that you are where you
are and traveling all the waydown and back up the East Coast,
eastern Seaboard, and notactivate as many parks as you
possibly can, with as many otherhams, I'm going to come out
there personally and kick yourass, theo, because you wasted a
good opportunity.

Speaker 2 (01:08:59):
Yeah, well, and so that's where, like on the way
back, there's a whole bunch offlag and torch guys that are
like georgia, tennessee, kentucky, the carolinas, right.
So yeah, I, I, obviously I'm, Igotta plan that on the way back
to uh to hit all those guys upand do parks with them yep yeah,

(01:09:23):
get those states green, myfriend.

Speaker 1 (01:09:25):
Get those states green, especially the fact you
only have what 12 like.
I expect more out of you, myfriend yeah, yeah, well.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
So I mean I've already got florida, georgia and
south carolina, so I need toget north carolina, I need to
get tennessee, kentucky, alabama, I'll obviously get it on.
So, um, but yeah, yeah, Idefinitely I'll.
I'll probably come home withfour or five at least new States
.
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
So, mike, this is what you have to expect, like
you start to plan familyvacations or just in general,
vacations in general, like whereare the poda parks along the
way and whether or not I haveactivated said state, because
that's what you want to turn togreen.

Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
And you go.
I'm sorry I can't get therefrom here, so I got to go the
other way.

Speaker 1 (01:10:16):
I can't tell you how much I went out of the way on my
way to North Carolina for abaseball event for my son's
college experience and activatedevery park along the 95
corridor all the way up and down, because my wife's like, hey,
this is the only opportunity youhave, so take advantage of it.
I'm like hell, yeah, soConnecticut, Pennsylvania, you

(01:10:39):
know all those guys I mean justbanged them all the way across
the board.

Speaker 4 (01:10:43):
I will say I mean, it only took me like 40 minutes to
do the 20 contacts, but Godbless, you know, if you're doing
that and you've got to have 10,correct to activate.
So yeah, that's a lot of timein between as you go.

Speaker 1 (01:11:04):
You only got, gotta get 10, dude only 10.

Speaker 4 (01:11:08):
I know Todd and I learned that yeah, but the thing
is, if you get a pile up,you're screwed no, you do not.

Speaker 1 (01:11:19):
This is the rule that Todd and I learned when the
pile up happened.
You say sorry guys, I'm movingon to the next park.

Speaker 2 (01:11:27):
Hit me up there qrt, qrt, qrt, turn it down exactly
they follow.

Speaker 5 (01:11:34):
They follow.
We had a guy, they will.
We had a guy out in europe.
He I think he got us on everypark.
Yeah, it was pretty awesome andwe did that.
When we did that, we did it innovember and it was like what 80
degrees?
It was 80 degrees, it wasfreaking it was october.
But yeah, it was october andpeople were jumping in the ocean

(01:11:55):
and it was just nuts and uh,yeah, we did the whole thing
until the seventh park, all on10 meters and most.
And we even got ryan.
Um, we got ryan at uh, 47 000feet doing about aeronautical
mobile, aeronautical mobile.
He got us on 10 meters and he'slike, oh, I gotta go, I gotta

(01:12:16):
land, I'll try to get back, yeah, don't screw that up, yeah.
So, yeah, that was pretty cool.
That was a good.
That was a fun activation oractivation.

Speaker 1 (01:12:26):
We're gonna have to do that again before the end of
the summer, like you know, oncepaul finally comes back in
august, we're just gonna be like, screw this.
We're gonna do two guys, twogroups and just start in maine,
start in, you know, mass and goright to the middle and then
cross each other's path andfinish in each other's states.

Speaker 4 (01:12:44):
So yeah, yeah, that'll be cool all right.

Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
So we're gonna have to plan this out to where, like
we, we do the poter rove andthen we all go north to acadia
together oh no, we have to doacadia separate, like we, I
think we're gonna follow up withwhat we said in our podcast.

Speaker 1 (01:13:02):
we have to do Acadia separate, like I think we're
going to follow up with what wesaid in our podcast.
We need to do Acadia for fieldday.

Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
That would be Fan pass filters.

Speaker 1 (01:13:11):
We've got it.
We can operate one station inAcadia.
As long as we're operating inAcadia, I don't care, there's
only a few of us, I know right.
I mean for the size of Arcadiain the space we could probably
space it out enough that wecould run two stations and be
happy.

Speaker 2 (01:13:27):
Chris and I did make a contact with somebody that was
activating in Arcadia yesterday.
Oh wow, so from Wisconsin toMaine?
Yeah, dude, that's awesome.
Yeah, we got it.

Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
Yeah, that's awesome.
Yeah, all right.
Well, let's switch gears herereal quick.
We're going to run the nextgiveaway here, so I'm gonna flop
over to the giveaway page here.
Uh, that's the poll.
That's not what I want.
Come on giveaway page, allright, cool.
So let's go to someone give mea keyboard.
So this is for let me.

(01:14:01):
Uh, let me go and begin here.
I'm going to go large screenhere.
Sorry for the view.
So we are going to do the 56 toone reliance antenna here.
This is with the orange stealthwire and green kite winder
Stealth wire.
Yeah, it's a stealth wire.

Speaker 5 (01:14:17):
Why is it stealth, it's bright orange, that's what
he calls it.
It's poly stealth.
It's it stealth.
It's bright orange, that's whathe calls it it's polysnow.

Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
It's probably what it is.

Speaker 1 (01:14:26):
Yeah, all right and so this is the this is the small
little uh transformer here.
So, uh, you know, 100 watts, noproblem, great antenna, I love
it.
I've got one myself.
I, uh, you know, use them all,and you know, paul's got a
couple n feds as well.
So with that let me get out ofhere.
Um, we are going to use someone.

Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
Give me a keyword here I put one in the private
chat for you.
Oh, you did, okay, cool go herereal quick.

Speaker 1 (01:14:52):
Uh, there we go.
Cool, all right, I'll grab thathere.
So let me give you the keywordhere and we'll give away this
antenna uh give away all right.
So that is the keyword.
Come on refresh here, and thissoftware does not like to

(01:15:13):
refresh quick enough here we gookay, all right.
Um, why is this not resetting?
Uh, reset, there we go, allright.
So there's the keyword.
It's not double pound sign.
Sorry, let me fix that.

Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
So you guys do not have to enter double pound sign
all right.

Speaker 1 (01:15:34):
So uh, sorry, I said, bond sign again, damn it
hashtag no, you had it right.
It's pound sign not hashtag, true, right, depending on how
old I am, all right.
So there we go.
That is uh the keyword therelive free and ham, two years,
all caps.
Uh, you know hashtag?
Uh, go ahead and uh run that uhthere and we'll just keep

(01:15:56):
plugging away.
Let me go, uh, where the heckis this view here?
All right, shrink this out here.
I'll play the games here, allright, so let that run for a
little bit.
So, if you're interested in thelive free and uh, sorry, the
reliance antenna there, from uhreliance the 56 to 1 uh with uh
orange, or, yeah, orange, polysouth wire I think you fucked it

(01:16:20):
up because there's nothingshowing on the screen.
Yeah, I know right.
Why the heck is this notrestart?
Stupid little software.

Speaker 5 (01:16:30):
It's the software's fault?

Speaker 1 (01:16:31):
It's always the software fault, my God.

Speaker 4 (01:16:35):
Coming from an IT professional yes, yeah, exactly.

Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
Comments are crazy.

Speaker 2 (01:16:41):
Did you try turning it off and then turning?

Speaker 4 (01:16:43):
it back on again.
Yes, no is it plugged in.

Speaker 1 (01:16:48):
I did.
There we go.
Come on, there we go.
Damn stupid.
It doesn't like the hashtag inthe hash text field.

Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
There we go now, all right now it's rolling.

Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
So, yeah, throw, uh, throw that in the chat there and
, uh, you'll be entered to winthe 56 to 1 yeah, congrats on
two years, boys dude yeah, twoyears I raise a glass, the free
and ham glass, you know, forthose that uh have not picked
one up.
Sorry for you guys for notgetting gave mine away.
You did all right.

(01:17:21):
We'll have to send you a couplemore because we have a house ah
, very cool.
So yeah, well, it's got shit init what I do have, but I.

Speaker 5 (01:17:39):
one of the things in there is this Can you see that?
What?
The fuck is that?

Speaker 4 (01:17:47):
A middle finger.

Speaker 5 (01:17:48):
It's a middle finger.

Speaker 1 (01:17:52):
Hey, better than a middle finger.

Speaker 5 (01:17:53):
So for Christmas I got my mom A middle finger, a
little box she thought it waslike a piece of jewelry or
whatever and it opens up and itpops out with that little middle
finger and it had an extra onein there.
So I kept it and the wholereason.
And you gotta understand thebackstory because you know I'm
not some asshole.
But my mother, when I think Iwas in college, in high school,

(01:18:19):
she would christmas morning makemy brother and I wait upstairs
before we could even get ourcoffee because she wanted to get
a picture.
I'm a grown man, right, I'mlike what the?
So my, I'll do that man.
I'm like my, my and this islike you know, we're in college,
you come back home, whatever,my.
So we came down one day and wejust came down the steps and
we're just both like this, this,so now.

(01:18:40):
So now, my kids, his kids, mycousins, everyone she always
wants to take pictures.
So every time she takes apicture, you'll see this you
know, you see the inconspicuousmiddle finger somewhere in the
photo and she's like and she'llpost them like on Facebook and

(01:19:02):
all her stupid things, oh thisis such a great picture of the
family and there's like mybrother going like that or my
nephew, like you know, likeeight years old, so yeah, so she
thought it was pretty funnythat, uh, she thought she got
something nice for christmas andwe're all around and she opens
it up and the thing pops up ohman, you're cruel to your mom.

Speaker 1 (01:19:26):
That's awesome.
Yeah, I told the sad part.
She probably didn't evenrecognize it like she was like
oh, this is so great.

Speaker 5 (01:19:32):
Yeah, she knew exactly well.
Once she saw it pop up, she waslike you, asshole.

Speaker 1 (01:19:37):
Yeah my mom would be so oblivious to the whole
process.

Speaker 5 (01:19:40):
So yeah, if you ever, if you ever see my mom and she
wants to take a picture of you.
Just don't be afraid, throw thefinger at her drop the middle
finger.
Nice, very cool.
My nephew.
He's now what like 20, 21.
He's actually 21, but when hewas a baby he was sleeping like
this.

Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
So my brother takes a picture of it, he puts it on an
ornament you know, what's worseis, like my son, like we go to
the beach, he's like probably inhis he's 21, 22 and we go out
with the whole entire family onmy wife's side and we go to
hampton beach and he fallsasleep in the chair that he's in
and you know what the familydoes Is they all gather around

(01:20:25):
him and they all take a picturewith him, like pointing at him
and making fun of him.
And that's not.
The worst part is, what they dois they take that photo and
they put it on a t-shirt, theyput it on a coffee cup, they put
it on, like you know, a mug andthey basically give it to him
for Christmas.
So this Christmas I have coffeecups in my cabinet with my son

(01:20:48):
like drooling on the side of thechair because he was hungover
from the night before.

Speaker 2 (01:20:54):
And nobody drew dicks on his face.

Speaker 1 (01:20:56):
No, nobody went that far, but I'm like that's next
year.
They're going to amp it upevery year.
I guarantee it.

Speaker 2 (01:21:02):
Yeah, missed the opportunity to draw dicks on his
face.

Speaker 1 (01:21:07):
I have to agree, but I can't do it as his dad because
I'd feel really bad.

Speaker 2 (01:21:11):
No, you absolutely can as his dad.

Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
I would feel bad because in essence he'd be like
at least he could blame therelatives that I wouldn't be off
.
I'd be off the hook, but it'dhave to be a stretch for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:21:29):
I know you have to piss me off for me to want to do
that.
Listen, all right.
So my daughter watches some ofour live streams and stuff.
She's 22.
Yeah, but I'm just saying likeif she ever passed out at a
party I would 100% draw dicks onher face Like sorry kid.

(01:21:50):
I love you.

Speaker 1 (01:21:51):
But you know somebody's going to teach you.
As Mike says, if you were areal true hammer operator, you'd
be drawing a taxes on her face.
You know the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the be
drawing atas on her face.

Speaker 2 (01:22:04):
You know the ed dong, the ed dong right on her cheek
oh man, hey, this, this might bea live free.

Speaker 4 (01:22:11):
And ham, first hold on ready, are you gonna fart?

Speaker 1 (01:22:18):
nope is that a parrot .
You teach her how to say livefree in ham.

Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
I'm trying.
That's Cody.
Fuck you and happy Fuck you.

Speaker 1 (01:22:30):
You know what's worse is?
My son's name is Cody.
Oh, it was an awkward lie, wow,and that's not going to live.
He's not going to live that onedown.
Mike, what would compel you tobuy a parrot?

Speaker 4 (01:22:51):
This was given to us.
Dude, we have a shoe.
We lived in Maryland many, manymoons ago.
We had two birds.
One bird just passed, but thisis Cody.
She's an african gray.

Speaker 5 (01:23:06):
we don't know how old she is, but, um, she's really
smart yeah, they say thatthey're one of the smartest
animals in the world oh, anddon't they live like 200 fucking
years or some shit.

Speaker 1 (01:23:20):
They are they're the smart ass animals.
They're not the smartest.
We forgot ass.
You have to put ass in therebecause they are yeah, she, she
is.

Speaker 4 (01:23:33):
She doesn't swear, but she picks up on vocal like
she'll repeat me verbatim and itsounds like me, um, when my
wife coughs, she'll cough, andshe sounds just like my wife.
She, um, she'll.
She'll say my name, she'll belike michael, just like the wife

(01:23:56):
says it, and I'm like good god,but she's an awesome bird, um,
and we have her in a littletravel cage.
We brought her here from, uh,massachusetts, because we
couldn't leave her by herself,so we brought her.

Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
Yeah, dude you, I gave you credit.
Like we bought two chinchillasfor the kids and I wanted to
fucking kill them.
Like those damn things thechinchillas, not the kids.
Like the chinchillas wouldfreaking eat through everything
and I wanted to fucking killthem.
Those damn things were so thechinchillas, not the kids.
The chinchillas would freakingeat through everything under the
sun.
And I was like I'm going tokill these little fuzzy things
and I spent $200 on a nicelittle cage for you Sorry,

(01:24:38):
you're going to be evicted.
So we found a nice little homeand I gave them away for free,
because they're not coming back.

Speaker 4 (01:24:50):
Yeah, they're as cute and fuzzy as they are they're.
They're hard, dirty.
They're dusty because you haveto have them in the ash so they
can clean themselves, and it'slike this is no sorry and they
like, literally, I haveextension cords that have been
eaten through.

Speaker 1 (01:25:01):
I'm like dude.
They were hanging up in thecloset.
How the hell did you get tothem?

Speaker 2 (01:25:06):
so yeah, it's insane that would be amazing is if you
teach the bird cw dude thatwould be, awesome, she does a
microwave.

Speaker 4 (01:25:16):
She does a microwave tones perfect it's crazy you do
the microwave.

Speaker 1 (01:25:23):
Do the microwave alright, we are at 20 here, so
I'm gonna run the generator hereand see what we get.
So let's run this here.
And I'm gonna shrink this downfor Mike's view here, because
Mike is blind yes, thank yourespect.

Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
I could imagine Prep Ham Paul's bird thing.

Speaker 1 (01:25:47):
Get the fuck out, bro .
That's awesome.
Get the fuck out, bro.
Zq, ZQ, screw you.
That's a big list.
That's literally everybody inthe list.
That's nice.
The price is wrong bob mike, Iknow you got a 56 to 1.

(01:26:21):

our channel, I mean you shouldjust get it anyway.
You can re-give it away if hewants to.

Speaker 1 (01:26:41):

Let's see if we can spin thewheel again.
Let me do it.
Start, there we go.
My guess is the stupid wheelwill remember who last time won.

Speaker 2 (01:27:06):
It'll be Mike again it'll be Mike again, you gotta
grab that wheel way up high andreally give it a good whirl.

Speaker 1 (01:27:17):
I don't hear grab with both hands.

Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
My friend grab with both hands no whammies, no
whammies, no whammies, nowhammies.
Grab with both hands my friend.

Speaker 1 (01:27:28):
Grab with both hands.
No whammies, no whammies, nowhammies, no whammies.
Dude, that is a show that'scoming back.

Speaker 4 (01:27:32):

Speaker 1 (01:27:36):
I like to buy a vowel .
Which vowel would you like tobuy, mike?
Why, exactly?
There we go Kilo, sierra Zero.
All right, jeff, cool man.
Hey, hit us up atlivefreeandham at gmailcom, and

(01:27:56):

Speaker 4 (01:28:04):
Hefe got the win.
Yay.

Speaker 1 (01:28:07):
And I have not had Elijah Craig in a while and it's
kicking my ass.

Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
Dude Elijah's good, so smooth.

Speaker 1 (01:28:16):
That's the problem, dude.
You just put a little bit ofwater in it and you're like, ooh
, this is nice, this goes downreally easy.
No, you don't even need waterfor elijah I know I was trying
to be nice to myself so I couldactually like host the show, but
at this point listen, if youget too schnockered, right and

(01:28:38):
I'll just take over and I'llmake funny the whole show.
Yeah are you working on thatone?
So what's that?
Oh, my cannon cannon blast, cannon morgan.
Okay, well, what, uh?
What preclude, uh, why?

Speaker 4 (01:28:53):
clearly a spice drum yeah, it clearly is by a strong.
Um.
It sits in my freezer here atthe cave that's what we call it.
It's like three quartersunderground, but um, it, it, oh
god.
But it sits in the freezer andum, oh, it's so good with a size

(01:29:14):
cold yeah, sounds like I don'tknow.

Speaker 1 (01:29:18):
Spice rum for me is tough because I I get a lot of
heartburn for a lot of stupidstuff and and so, yeah, I can't
really handle that well.

Speaker 2 (01:29:28):
Yeah, much agreed, thank you.
Huge thank you to Prepamp.
Paul gifted five memberships,so we got May 2, bob Koff.
Congratulations, bob Koff.

(01:30:21):
be catering it.

Speaker 2 (01:30:22):
We're going to be operating a full 24 hours uh of
you know, ham radio livestreaming and activating the
greenfield park and so yeah, ifwe I was gonna throw it up on
the screen, but we don't havethe banner in this fucking
studio, oh yeah true so it isI'll put it.

Speaker 1 (01:30:44):
I'll put it up live free, if I can type it.
And amcom at least how manypeople we got we have so far
about uh, 12 uh sites, so um,and that number you know.
I think we actually got anotherone in today, so 24 hour poda.
So let me throw that there inthe link there, so it operates

(01:31:08):
at midnight, Mike.
No, that's a good question.
It actually starts Saturdayafternoon.
Everyone will probably show upand we'll start activating,
probably a little bit afternoontime and operate full 24
hours.
We're going to have a fullycatered so you don't have to
worry about food and everything.
Um, all you have to do is just, you know, come and you know,
grab a campsite and hang out andwe'll have, uh, you know

(01:31:32):
everything, uh, you know, covered there for food and you
know, hangout time and you knowwe, you know even if you want to
come for the day so let me putthis out there if you just want
to come hang out for the day,you know, in your new england
area or even the northeast area, and you want to drive a little
bit, come on up.
You know we'd love to have youoperate.
You know we'd love to have you,uh, activate the park and we're

(01:31:53):
gonna do it as a whiskey one, live free and ham, and, uh, you
know, we're just gonna, you know, have fun for full 24 hours.
I know people it's already beendone, I'm not worried about that
.
I mean, this is just a camp out, a hangout session.
So if you want to come hang outwith everybody that live free
and ham.
You know it's going to be anawesome time.
You know we're going to be aGreenfield park, a state park,

(01:32:14):
and you know it's going to be ablast.
So it's that of septembercoming up soon.
So head over to that linkthat's in the chat there, um,
and if you're interested and youwant to be part of that, let me
know and then that way I canget you in the loop and uh send
you all the details and uh costsfor park and food and
everything else like thatawesome separate catering cast

(01:32:39):

Speaker 4 (01:32:39):
Yeah, yeah, you coming.

Speaker 1 (01:32:40):
You come in, Mike right.

Speaker 4 (01:32:42):
Oh yeah, I'll be there.

Speaker 1 (01:32:43):
Great, oh, I already got it on the schedule I'll be
there bright and early Saturdaymorning with bells on the help
set up Always good, Always goodoh all right.

Speaker 2 (01:32:56):
Well, I'm kind of, I'm kind of excited for it.
Like you know, I'm going it,like you know I'm gonna, I'm
gonna have the grouch mobilecommand and then, and then we'll
also have, you know, a stationoutside under the easy up, so
that way, you know, peoplearen't in this tiny confined
space in here, and it's it isdefinitely tiny, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (01:33:21):
He described it and he's like oh yeah, it's, it's
tight quarters.
I think when you first got itand then when I saw it at near
fest and I was like and I sat inthe chair, I'm like he's not
joking, this is tight a camperfrom indiana one of the things

(01:33:53):
that I would like to do, though,is um.

Speaker 2 (01:33:55):
I'd like to put um a bulkhead connector through the
wall so that I can just connect, you know, plug right into the
so239, like that that would be.

Speaker 4 (01:34:07):
That would be like a really nice upgrade that would
be what they call the bees kneesyeah, and even better if I get
two, and then I could.

Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
I could label one vhf UHF and the other one HF, and
then you know, when I eventuallyget back home I'll throw the
other 706 Mark 2G in here,because I sold the one that I
had to help fund a few morejumps.

Speaker 1 (01:34:38):
Oh not a bad thing.

Speaker 2 (01:34:42):
Ryan's got it right.
Yeah, it's definitely it's Navy.
It's Navy.
The studio in here is similarto what you would find on a
submarine.

Speaker 1 (01:34:55):
Yeah, Minus the fact being under 20,000 pounds of
pressure and everything elselike that.

Speaker 2 (01:35:03):
But yeah, yeah, just not underwater.

Speaker 1 (01:35:08):
well, I mean financially maybe sometimes it
feels like it, uh, cool, well, dude, like you know, I you know
I'm gonna get sentimental herebecause, like I, I'm pretty, you
know pretty psyched that youknow, you, finally, you know,
got to the point of getting yourclass a and now you're going to
class b, and you know, godforbid that, you know you, you

(01:35:32):
stick around even longer and goto class c or d.
You know, but I, I'm, I'm, I'mpretty excited to see you know,
you, you're achieving some ofyour goals and getting, you know
, definitely, the, the skydivingstuff you know under your belt
and you know, obviously, peopleare, you know, showing that uh,
there with, uh, you know, justcause.

Speaker 2 (01:35:51):
So all good there.

Speaker 1 (01:35:53):
Hell yeah, thank you, thank you but uh, yeah, dude,
it's, it's totally awesome tosee you know all, all right, I'm
going to get really, you know, way back machine dude.
Like I remember when you and Iwere talking and you were like I
don't know about this YouTubestuff, like I don't want to like
talk about, like you know, myself on YouTube or anything

(01:36:15):
like that, and like I don't knowwhat happened, like once, you
know, and we we talked a littlebit on live free and ham.
So if you want to check thatepisode, great, that'll be air
next week.
But, um, it was.
It was really cool to see youlike take off.
And you know, fuck man, dude, you've been, you know doing some
awesome stuff.
So you know, I, I raise a glassto you, man, you know You're

(01:36:39):
reaching, you know, for the skyand beyond.
And you know, and it's coolthat you know, we have one more
person that's going to be ableto do skydive mobile.
You know, parachute mobileSorry, not skydive, but
parachute mobile.
So you know, in due time, youknow it'll be good to maybe work
, yeah, but I obviously won't beable to do that.

(01:37:01):
You know immediate future.
But you know, sometime, whenyou're back up in this area,
we'll, we'll definitely have tograb the hd and and make a
contact well.

Speaker 2 (01:37:10):
So, okay, when, when I am back up in new england, um,
I'm I'm still working outdetails on where I'm parking the
rv for the time that I'm goingto be back up, but I'm going to
make a trip to skydive toEngland and Levin and Maine and

(01:37:30):
I'm going to jump there.
And if I can get Carlos in thetime that I'm here remaining to
give me the walkthrough on howto do an ht, right then 100 like
I'll, I'll, I'll go to skydivenew england and I'll do, I'll do

(01:37:51):
a few jumps with an at um, youknow, hopefully you can, you can
be there, you can live streamit or whatever.
Um, you know, and, and, yeah,we'll make, we'll make some,
some parachute mobile contacts,as, as it's, as it's looking
right, at least in the timebeing, I'm thinking about going

(01:38:14):
to Zephyr Hills in Florida forthe winter.
Oh, okay, it's a, it's, it'sa's a very, very big popular
drop zone.
Um, a lot that I can learnthere.
Um, I should, yeah, I will.
But just I mean talking toother skydivers here, um that

(01:38:37):
that have been down there.
Um, I should be able to, youknow, like bartend, or you know,
pack parachutes or workmanifest or work in the pro shop
or something, uh, in exchangefor money and jumps or whatever.
Um, so, yeah, I, you know, I,I'm absolutely enthralled with

(01:38:59):
this sport.
Um, the feeling is unreal, likeI wish.
I wish that I could put it intowords, like I wish that I could
describe how amazing it is.
And, um, you know like when, when you're going up in in the

(01:39:21):
plane, right like all the allthe thoughts are going through
your mind of all the ways thateverything could go wrong.
But once you exit that plane, the only thing that matters is
in just being in that moment.
And then, when the parachuteopens, it's almost like a sudden

(01:39:46):
reevaluation of all of yourlife priorities, where it's like
how fucking important is thisand how fucking important is
that?
And you know, I've beenneglecting this thing that was
actually important to me and I'mnot going to neglect that
anymore.
I'm gonna pay more attention tothat.

(01:40:07):
It's amazing.
I wish everybody couldexperience it at least once well
, that may be the case.

Speaker 1 (01:40:20):
I will have conversations offline, because
I'm not gonna commit to anythinghere, because I'm not jumping
out of a perfectly good airplanewell, they're not really
perfectly good airplanes, asI've already defined.
But you know what?
We'll have that car.
But, ziggy, thank you again forjoining here tonight.
Uh, good to see you, man.

Speaker 3 (01:40:39):
Um nice to meet you, eric nice to meet you as well.

Speaker 1 (01:40:43):
And uh, yeah, thanks sir for for hanging out with us.
Yeah, paul, you know, dude, I,I man, I don't want to get sappy
, but I'm gonna get sappy.
You know, dude, I'm proud ofyou, dude, I'm proud that you
took a big, huge step, that youmade like an effort to like

(01:41:04):
reach out for your goals.
You know, I'm super sad but atthe same time, super excited for
you because I know you're goingto be like you're not going to
be tied to new england, you'regoing to go everywhere and
anywhere, um, and that's awesome, but you'll still be, you know,
tagged home and you still hangout with us.
And you know, eventually, toddand I will finally get off our
butts and finally retire and,you know, realize that we need

(01:41:27):
to uh, travel more.
And you know we'll go hang outwith you.
The other ham fest.
And you know, maybe, uh, youknow maybe I'll tandem jump with
you, but, uh, you know thethat's not committing here.
You know, don't, don't, don't,anybody document this or hold me
to it, um, but uh, yeah, yeah, you know I've got a bucket list
and you know that's somewhere onthe bucket list, but way at the

(01:41:48):
bottom so, first of all, newhampshire will always be my home
.

Speaker 2 (01:41:57):
I, I, um, and, and so I learned that when I was in
the service.
Right, like you, travel, youlive here, you live there.
I lived in Massachusetts forthree years.
I lived in Oregon for threeyears.
Sorry to hear that.
Yeah, tell me about it.
Both those states are fuckingawful.

(01:42:18):
New Hampshire is always goingto be home.

Speaker 6 (01:42:28):
New hampshire is always going to be home, so, um,
no matter where I roam, newhampshire will always be home,
but let's do it.
Do it, make the ai song I gottawrite it down better where I am
hampshire, will always be homeso here's a lot of lyrics right
now as we speak.

Speaker 2 (01:42:45):
Yeah, I will, and so this is dude.
This is how my songs come to be, is I write the lyrics, right?
I write the lyrics and then I Igo all right now, fucking make
it into something that soundsgood so sidebar here.

Speaker 1 (01:42:58):
Real quick you sent me a couple of like.
You were like dude, like thisis thing, and so I added to my
playlist and I was drivingaround in the car over the
weekend and those came up in theplaylist and my wife was
listening and she was like whois this singer?
This is a really good singer.
I'm like that's Paul, that'shis AI song and she's like what.

(01:43:19):
I'm like, yeah, paul likes todo AI songs.
He's really good at it.
You know, I have to say youknow.
So listen to the lyrics, it'sinteresting.
And so she's like oh, mom.

Speaker 4 (01:43:28):
No, you should have said it's me honey, I'm the one
singing.

Speaker 1 (01:43:34):
No, no, no, no.
She would know I would be lyingthrough my teeth.
So yeah, I had to be honest.
Didn't we start that rumor thatyou sang all the music?
Yeah, don't start that now,please.
Not worth it in the eyes of thestranger.
Anyway, go on, continue.
Paul in the army.

Speaker 2 (01:43:55):
Um well, so all right , listen, if you're not, if
you're not going to be ready todo a tandem anytime soon after,
after I get my d license, whichis a 500 jump minimum, okay, I
can.
Then I can then do the tandeminstructor program and I can

(01:44:19):
become a tandem instructor, andthen I could take you tandem, do
it.
And let me tell you the fifthattachment point you, might get
poked, but that's just becausehe likes you.
Listen, just Eric, you know.
Just put your head back andlean on my shoulder and we're

(01:44:41):
just going to fly Erecting thatbig, hard, stiff black mast,
erecting that big, hard, stiffblack mast.

Speaker 6 (01:44:52):
Erecting that big.

Speaker 1 (01:44:56):
I had to break up the tension there.
It was a little too much.
I'm on stream with the childrenhere.

Speaker 2 (01:45:02):
Dude oh, this is not a kids show.

Speaker 1 (01:45:05):
So, let me say I've got a caveat here TO said a
couple of things that now I haveincriminating evidence, video
wise, that I won't run tonightbut in essence I will use later
In a future episode Of a fewthings that he said on a couple
of you know his Episodes thathe's released that you know
follow along the line of youknow K murders, you know big,

(01:45:28):
hard, stiff black mask, anyway.
So, anyway, sorry to segue, butyeah, I let me answer that
question for you.
It is going to be in the nextfive years or less.
Yeah, I'm giving you time towork on your D I.
I will only trust you, not thatthe other guys can't do it, but

(01:45:49):
in essence I feel like it'smore of a kindred spirit
connection, because I sat on theground waiting forever for you
to finally jump.
It was a matter of like, hey, then you know we'll just carry
on the tradition and I'll jumpwith you, and you know that
makes sense.
So, yeah, we'll work that out, trust me.

Speaker 2 (01:46:07):
yeah, and we'll definitely record it for sure
well, so, and that's where I wasthinking like I mean, even if,
even if you were ready before Igot my d, right after I get my c
.

Speaker 6 (01:46:19):
I can't with this D stuff guys.

Speaker 2 (01:46:23):
Hey, listen, it's A, B, c, d.

Speaker 1 (01:46:26):
True, true, true true .

Speaker 2 (01:46:29):
If you're not ready for your D if you're not ready.
When I got the D at 200 jumps, Ican apply for my C license and
I can.
I can, you know, fly with acamera and get you know camera

(01:46:49):
proficient, and so then, likeyou could be with with somebody
else as the tandem instructorand I could fly with you, see,
as the camera guy if thathappens, then we have to work
carlos into getting up here intonew hampshire and he'll do all
of that at the same time andwork all of that out.

Speaker 1 (01:47:11):
So yeah, I'm all game dude how I am, I'm willing to
put the effort in to coordinateall that stuff and make it
happen.

Speaker 2 (01:47:18):
So yeah, if you could get strapped to Carlos.

Speaker 1 (01:47:25):
I don't know if that's my lifelong goal, but
sure.

Speaker 5 (01:47:31):
Yeah, that works.
You should have said you canget strapped on to Carlos.
Strap on.

Speaker 1 (01:47:36):
I'll strap on Carlos Sure.
That works for me too as well.

Speaker 6 (01:47:40):
I thought we couldn't get any lower.

Speaker 1 (01:47:42):
Oh, dude, we were way gone before the half hour mark.
You know, live free and ham.
We're only at 500 subscribers,so we have a way higher ceiling
to achieve.

Speaker 6 (01:47:52):
So oh yeah, for a group of people like this.
Yeah, I would expect you tobreak a thousand by the end of
the month I, oh well, hey, Iappreciate the high Well that
way, when you fail, I can getdown, you can bring it to our
attention.
I get to break you down like areal man.
I like how you think ZiggyExactly.

Speaker 1 (01:48:19):
I don't know where you're going with that one.
I'm right here In terms offield day.
Real quick.
Did you do any field day at all?

Speaker 6 (01:48:27):
I did the Lord's work and I was helping go through a
Silent Key estate.

Speaker 1 (01:48:35):
Oh, okay.

Speaker 6 (01:48:37):
You were going through the Silent.

Speaker 4 (01:48:39):
Key estate.
I'm sorry you were goingthrough the Silent Key key
estate or you were helping them.

Speaker 6 (01:48:46):
Well, so my buddy had already got most of it out so
they could close up the shop.
He had a radio repair shop andit was so much that, so many
truckloads of stuff, that Ivolunteered my whole day, my my
one day off to go over and wejust laid it all out down the

(01:49:08):
driveway and we just, we made, you know, we made big, you know
huge, 27 gallon bins of theseparts going this bin, these
parts going this bin, theseparts going this bin.
It took all day, wow, all daywas he a contest?
that's a lot of equipment well,he, uh, he's, he was his shop,
uh, sold him repaired uh, cb andtwo meter antennas, uh, radios,

(01:49:31):
uh, mostly you know, for likethe hunters that you know, like
their two meter fm, you know, free banding stuff right and um,
uh, but he was actually a ham,but he just actually made money
at CB repair, so that's whatpaid the bills, that's what he
stuck with, wow, and he was asuper nice guy.
From what I hear, I never methim and, judging by all the

(01:49:55):
equipment that he had, he neverripped anybody off because
everything he has is, you know,he only kept one aesthetic
quality rating of product andthat was all just top-tier.
Everything that you couldpossibly buy, even down to all
the coax jumpers, was all likebrand-name stuff.
Oh, wow, I got probably, Idon't know, 50, maybe 60

(01:50:16):
two-meter NMO antennas, you know, for roof mount, and they were
the Tr special.
I call them because theyactually come to you at 137
megahertz.
So you get to, uh, you know, trim it up wherever you want to
go, um, and then I got, I gotabout 70 of the five eighth wave
, uh, two meter antennas, whichI think was a massive score.

(01:50:39):
Um, let's see, what did I get?
All kinds of.
I got so much animo stuff, uh,because, um, the, the guy that
bought all the stuff he's notinterested in uh doing like car
installs or anything like that,he's just specifically into uh
radios and radio repair.
Oh, and then then the about Idon't know 2 000 radios that we
hauled out of that place.

(01:51:00):
What, wow, wow, 2000, easily,2000, it's not free.
yeah, my guess was I'm hearingham fest fodder yeah, no, we've
already got our first truckloadpacked up for uh, the next, uh
little ham swap.
So fortunately he gets to doall that pain, pain and so like

(01:51:20):
you guys like, so this is myfrustration.

Speaker 1 (01:51:21):
Like I haven't crossed over into that.
Like you guys like, so this ismy frustration.
Like I haven't crossed overinto that.
Like you know world where, likeyou get a state sales and you
start becoming a collector ofcertain, you know models and
types, and then you sell themand trade them.

Speaker 6 (01:51:35):
I'm looking at my Japanese dialect sooner, as he's
talking.

Speaker 1 (01:51:38):
And so, mike, you're you're probably in the same boat
Like I just can't.
Like I have the philosophy inmy life where, if I don't use it
after a year, I got to find ahome for it.
I can't keep it, yeah, okay.
So, ziggy, you kind of likethat way, or are you more of a
collector of certain types andmodels and you hold on to that

(01:52:01):
stuff forever, or look forwardto the best deal, like like
what's your thinking around that?
Like it's weird, like a weirdthing for me, like I can't quite
get my head around it I'm.

Speaker 6 (01:52:12):
I'm so fortunate to have so many nice people uh
within this realm in my lifethat I keep such good, close
contact with.
You know all the people that Iknow, especially grouch.
I try to say something to himat least once a day.
Um, we all do.
But anyway, I share.
I share all my, or at leastsomething about me.
Definitely I, uh I pretty muchshare all my, all my scores and

(01:52:39):
treasures with all my friends, and if any one of them ever says
anything that like exceeds mylevel enthusiasm about it, watch
out, because I'm printing alabel.
Yeah, I just, I don't sellanything.
I give my stuff away.
I don't.
Within this community I've been, I've been given so much that

(01:52:59):
selling stuff that I got forfree.
I could never do it, can't doit.
I just I just sent uh chrisbricker a tuner, uh, just
because he liked it, and boom, Igot a thermal laser printer now
.
So shipping stuff off is almostlike a sin, you know, it's like
well, you know it's.

Speaker 1 (01:53:18):
I get it because I I actually grew up with a lot of
hams like yourself, like theywould literally like have a
collection of stuff, but theywere collecting it for the
purposes of finding a home forit.
You know, and the nature of it.
And, mike, you probably soundlike the similar, you know, same
basis.
You kind of like that, oh yeahoh yeah, it's just.

Speaker 4 (01:53:36):
It's just.
I'm the same way to take I.
I don't hold on to things formore than a year when it comes
to radio stuff.
I'm always constantly swappingor trading.
I like the barter table betterthan the pay table.

Speaker 6 (01:53:50):
Seriously, yeah, that way both parties win, both
parties win on a barter.

Speaker 4 (01:53:56):
Yeah, and when hands come over to my house and they
need an antenna or something, coax antenna or or whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:54:05):
I'm like here, dude, take it go, you know, pass it on
to the next person so, dude, that that is like that is, I
think, the essence of reallywhat ham radio should be about.
If, like there, if it isn'talready like I, you guys are
perfect examples of that.
But I think, like, when you goto ham fest, a lot of times it's
always about the best deal orwhat you can get for whatever

(01:54:27):
you sell.
And there's definitely thataudience.
But like I find, like everyonce in a while, you find like
folks like yourself like, hey, dude, like I want you to, you
know, be successful at ham radio.
So take this, just go with itand run with it and you know,
see what you can do with it.
And you know, I think that'slike the best example of how ham
radio operators should be like,no matter what level you're at,

(01:54:49):
whether you're brand new oryou've been in it 30 years, like
you shouldn't hold on to stuffjust to hold on to it.
Like I don't, like it's greatthat.
Like, oh, you have the, thetwin pair of hammerlands, but
like, dude, what are theyactually doing anything?
Like do they?
Are they in the hands ofsomebody who could operate
something?

Speaker 6 (01:55:07):
uh, there was a giveaway and, um, when everybody
found out that I was givingaway one of my very, uh, very
unique antenna creations, um, Ican't remember how many hundreds
of people signed up for it, butI learned a lesson immediately,
because I saw the call sign andit was a one by two call sign
and I was like you don't, youknow, that wasn't for you.

Speaker 1 (01:55:29):
You know what I mean, right yeah, should be a two by
three minimum it should havegone to a tech or a general.

Speaker 6 (01:55:36):
That's all I'm saying .
Yeah, and so I learned a hardlesson that you know.
We're, we're in the, uh, we'rein the extra class, um, because
we're supposed to be doing thetop down of of the hobby.
You know what I mean.
Not the, not the grab all andeverything.
Grouch doesn't, uh, grouchisn't gonna send me anything but
some more grouch stickers.

(01:55:56):
You know, I don't, I don't needanything you know from.
But that was the first time Igot a tuner for you.
You got a tuner Tuna.
I'll take a tuna.
He knows I'm into tunas.
Don't talk about tunas.

Speaker 2 (01:56:10):
I get hot yeah it's the Versa 2, but I smoked the
toroid on the Balance Connection.

Speaker 6 (01:56:20):
Oh, even better, I'm in love.
Alright, so it's the Versa 2.
Yep the balance connection.
Oh, even better, I'm in love, all right.
So it's the versatoo yep, and I, I think, I think, I'll fucking
jump, I think.

Speaker 2 (01:56:34):
I think I picked it up for like 10 bucks.
Wait a minute.
Is that the 949?
Uh, it's the versatoo, I don'tknow.

Speaker 6 (01:56:38):
It's the mfj versatoo that tuner I'm actually uh an
expert at, because I've alreadyuh gone through and fixed one of
those for somebody, so I knowjust about everything there is
about that uh tuner, so it isnot broken much longer no, it's
a great tuner, but I've I've gotit with me.

Speaker 2 (01:56:55):
I have zero need for it because at home in my shed
I've got a?
Um, I've got a heath kit fulllegal limit manual tuner and
I've got the, I think, a 10 techtuner.
I've got a whole bunch of 10tech stuff.
I got so much shit I just gotto get rid of it all because so

(01:57:18):
this is how pros do it right.

Speaker 6 (01:57:19):
Watch this grouch.
Send me the uh weight in thebox dimensions.
I'll send you a ticket.

Speaker 2 (01:57:25):
So, more likely Just meet me at Huntsville.
He is my counter-author.
I can't go to.
Huntsville.
Okay, then he is mycounter-author.
Okay, then he is mycounter-author.

Speaker 5 (01:57:35):
Okay then he is my counter-author.

Speaker 1 (01:57:38):
Okay then he is my.
There we go, get rid of thedead thing.
I am so slow now this ElijahCraig's here in my ass, sorry.

Speaker 2 (01:57:46):
Here's my counteroffer Just meet me at
Huntsville and I'll give it toyou.
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:57:51):
No, not going to happen.
Wow, yes, it is no.

Speaker 2 (01:57:56):
Because, we already figured it out and you don't
have to go through fuckingGeorgia.

Speaker 4 (01:58:04):
Why can't you go through Georgia?

Speaker 6 (01:58:07):
No, I was just making up an excuse.

Speaker 4 (01:58:09):
I'm raising a family and I work a full-time job.

Speaker 6 (01:58:13):
I've got a couple acres of property I have to keep
up with around here and I got atower to put up.
I got 15 panels to put up and Igot a mini split.
I got to install all before the14th.
So I'm just a busy guy man.

Speaker 5 (01:58:28):
This is just my speed all the time well, speaking
about being busy, uh, I gotta go, guys.
I gotta take my kid fishing tothe sea coast.
I gotta leave at six in themorning, which means I gotta up
at 5, and I'm still recoveringfrom my flight trip.

Speaker 1 (01:58:45):
Paul's like what the hell's wrong with you, man?
Come on, you was at the airportuntil 3 in the morning.

Speaker 2 (01:58:50):
And you were on a plane.
You had plenty of time tofucking sleep.
You just didn't do it.

Speaker 5 (01:58:56):
I can't sleep on the plane, dude.
I'm sorry.
I try, it just doesn't happen.
So anyway, I'm gonna say 73, 75.

Speaker 6 (01:59:29):
All right, see you guys we're going back to a
four-pack fellas, all right, solet's, let's do the last
giveaway here.

Speaker 1 (01:59:43):
So the last giveaway is for paul.
If you want to throw the linkinto the stop at the store front
, my gosh anyway.
Um, yeah, so, uh, yeah, this isgonna be a big train wreck, I
guarantee it.

Speaker 6 (01:59:59):
Um chris gave him the 72.
Oh, that's a tough one, that'sI don't.
I don't think 72s is a nice oneno, that's how I checked.

Speaker 1 (02:00:10):
Okay, so let's go to the last giveaway here.
So we are gonna do paul, yougotta, or anybody got a quick?
Uh, they want to throw on theprivate chat there for another
keyword, since I can't think ofone oh, come on, oh, I got you,

Speaker 6 (02:02:10):
Your mom works too.

Speaker 1 (02:02:11):
Damn you, Elijah Craig.

Speaker 6 (02:02:14):
I knew something was involved.
Okay, yeah, it is for sure.

Speaker 2 (02:02:19):
Cheers to Elijah and Glenn Fittick.
I guess Captain too.

Speaker 1 (02:02:29):
I have not had Elijah Craig in a while, and so my
gosh, it is.
Yeah, it's running for a loop.
I guess I should start to buildup the stamina for our 24 hour
podo, because, yeah, I'm goingto probably be having a lot of
it there's not going to be anypoda in going on.
No, that's for sure, poda-ing.

Speaker 5 (02:02:51):
Anyone who is?

Speaker 2 (02:02:55):
sober after 6pm on the 24-hour poda.
Kudos to you.
That's all I've got to say.

Speaker 1 (02:03:05):
Or you're either doing something wrong or you
just showed up.

Speaker 6 (02:03:06):
One of the two, I had a nice gentleman from across
the pond tell me I've got a goodcopy on you, ziggy, but you're
just too drunk, mate.
I just can't, I can't, I can'tdo it anymore I was like, ah,
you're full of it.

Speaker 1 (02:03:21):
You're five something .
I don't know what the othernumber is, but it's a good
number, I'm sure what a nicelife all right.
So again, those that are just,uh, maybe joining tonight.
Uh, the last giveaway is foranything in the ham radio, I
mean the ham radio in thelifrine ham store.

Speaker 2 (02:03:40):
My gosh, this is bad help me have another one, dude,
take another one take control, take control, my friend take
control.

Speaker 1 (02:03:49):
I ran out of water we have lbas.

Speaker 4 (02:03:52):
We have lots and lots of lbas.
That we do, that we do allright.

Speaker 2 (02:03:56):
So let me just tell you, okay, because we've got a
lot of great stuff in the store.
All right, fellas, we've got alot of great stuff in the store.
Alright, fellas, we've got alot of great stuff in the store.
It's a great store.
It's a very big store, it's gota lot of great stuff and you
can even get a hoodie if you'dlike.
Alright, even a hoodie if you'dlike.
It's huge.

(02:04:17):
It's huge, as big as you'd like.
You can do it okay, paul sayshuge we have the best hoodies.

Speaker 1 (02:04:27):
Nobody makes a better hoodie anyway, all right well
we'll let that keep rollingthrough there.
So yeah, dude, so do you do alot of these like estate sales
or like, is this just a hobbyfor you?

Speaker 6 (02:04:45):
Well, yeah, yeah, I do a lot because my primary
thing in the hobby is antennatowers.
I'm a climber and, morespecifically, I'm a disassembler
.
So when I've done that when, when a ham dies and it's time

(02:05:05):
for the tower to go, or towers Iusually take it down for free
and the best in return I couldpossibly hope for is scrap
aluminum or something like that.
But nine times out of ten Iusually get the whole damn tower
.
Um, so I have like I have a lotof tower pieces and then you

(02:05:31):
know anything else that the thecb side.
If it's a cb ham, uh, all thecb stuff goes to the cb guys and
all the ham stuff in the hamshack usually comes my way and
then I find it new homes.
So it's not, I don't do it tomake money.
It's not a money thing, it'smore like a product.
Yeah, you're kind of distributor, yeah, distributor right yeah,

(02:05:54):
just making sure it doesn't windup in the trash.
And you know I can, I can find.
I can find stuff for people.
I thought you had this coolfilter going on grouch, it's
just the cigarette smoke infront of the camera.

Speaker 3 (02:06:04):
They're going across your, I thought you had, like I
thought you had like some kindof like water effect, like
lighting, going on.

Speaker 6 (02:06:10):
I was like, oh, that's nice, oh no, it's your
marble no, I I do have.

Speaker 2 (02:06:14):
I do have um snow.
Um, I can't talk here.
I can, I can make it snow.
Oh, you have actual snow.

Speaker 6 (02:06:26):
Is that what that is Are?

Speaker 4 (02:06:27):
you doing that?

Speaker 6 (02:06:30):
Is that what that is?
Yes, Okay.

Speaker 4 (02:06:33):
Yeah, I don't see any snow.

Speaker 6 (02:06:37):
Eric, I've got nothing but answers and very
little to I'll tell you anythingyou want to know about how all
this works.
Man, it's very cut and dry theyjust.
I just got called two days ago.
There was an 80 year old and hesaid my wife won't let me climb
the tower anymore.
And Wow, yeah, holy crap.

(02:07:02):
And and after I got off thephone with him and I gave him
like a ridiculous price to take, you know, because he wants his
antenna taken down, he got astep by r3 bander that's broken.

Speaker 1 (02:07:10):
No, no I correct you it's step by r, it's stepper.
Well, it's not step by r, it'sstepper it's broken.

Speaker 6 (02:07:18):
Oh is it it's broken broken is broken.
Uh, well, anyway it's, I don'tknow.
He says it's not working.
Uh, he can't adjust it and it's10 years old, so time to come
down and it's.
And he told me it was like alittle 50, 60 footer and that
he's 80.
I was like, dude, 200 bucks, Igot you all day, bro, I'll be up
, no problem.

(02:07:39):
And he was just like floored.
He was like really, I've gottenquotes forever a thousand
dollars.
And I was like I know, becauseI do this business, but I heard
that you're 80 and these lastyears are more important.
Uh, you know what I mean?
Yeah, right, and he's not onthe air right now.
So this is when you're supposedto be a ham and find a little

(02:07:59):
spot in your life to go help an80 year old get back on the air.

Speaker 1 (02:08:02):
While you're up there , put an n-fed halfway vote for
him so we can get back on theair I don't know man um so, mike
, you say that, but like I finda lot of like the 80 year olds,
like even in our club, theyaren't active hams, like they
are not interested in getting onthe air also too.

Speaker 6 (02:08:21):
You know I am uh, I don't know if if you know this
about me, michael, but um, I'veunlocked a special secret about
infeds.
Um, uh, within the uh impedancetuning aspect ratio of it, um,
aside from the the feed line, and um, I went over it a few
times.
I'd be glad to share, so shareit with you.

(02:08:41):
Anyway, I make very specializedinfed half waves for people and
I charge an outrageous amountof money, and I have every right
to do so, because nobody elsecan do what I do with them.
Um, you're talking about therandom men?
Uh, no, not even the random men.
No, I'm talking about the fatbottom girl.

Speaker 1 (02:08:58):
Oh, okay, yeah, that's a nice I like fat bottom
girls yeah, I do just as much asthis Fat Bottom Women, Windows
Women.

Speaker 6 (02:09:07):
I have a Fundamental 80 Infed Half Wave and I figured
out how to get it under one anda half across every band,
including the work bands, including all of 75 and 80
meters, all under two to one.
Super cool.
And it's not like crackpottheory, like I found a document

(02:09:27):
that's about I don't know 60plus years old, um.
I found a document that's 60plus years old that proves that
what I'm doing with it, um, isfactual and it has everything to
do with the feed line, not thetransformer and not the actual
radiating element.
So, yeah, I'm actually usingthe feed line as an in-and-out,

(02:09:51):
when necessary radiating element, which most people shun upon.
But you know, as long as you'renot a ground earther, you're
okay A flat earther.

Speaker 3 (02:10:04):
No, not a ground earther you're okay, a flat
earther, no a ground earther.

Speaker 6 (02:10:09):
I am not a ground earther.
Sorry guys, I don't believe inthat dumping my RF into the soil
like you guys do.

Speaker 4 (02:10:18):
Oh, there's not an antenna in my house that's
grounded.
Do you know why?

Speaker 6 (02:10:21):
Because lightning is attracted to things that go to
ground isn't that such a funnyconcept, right, it's like well,
I mean, we don't really have ananswer, right, it's.
It's more like a travesty, likea random travesty.
When somebody gets hit withlightning, it really kind of
almost doesn't matter.
It's really a game of chance inthe first place.
And I agree, if you givelightning a very low impedance

(02:10:42):
path to ground, it's really agame of chance in the first
place.

Speaker 2 (02:10:43):
And I agree, if you give lightning a very low
impedance path to ground, it'sprobably gonna like it yeah, but
the thing is it's like, dude, nobody is running a fucking uh,
you know a ground stake and andrunning a ground for a poda
activation, you want to bet, right, yeah?

Speaker 6 (02:11:02):
all right.

Speaker 1 (02:11:02):
Well, I've seen it firsthand I've still, there are
a few I've those of us normalfucking people, right, we're not
doing that shit so like paul, you gotta state it like like
okay, those that are going to bedoing activation for four and a
half hours minimum are going toput a ground stake in.
Those that do like an houractivation are not going to

(02:11:24):
spend the time hammeringanything in whatsoever dude,
even a four hour activation, ain't nobody got time for that
there are some guys that do that, like I.
I bumped into one and he wasthere for four, like the third
hour, and I'm like dude, youdone.
He's like no, I'm gonna keepgoing.
I'm like why, like, I get it,but at the same time how?

Speaker 2 (02:11:46):
how much does the noise floor go down by driving a
ground rod?
In the end it'll be minuscule.
It's measurable.
But what one?
One db.

Speaker 6 (02:11:57):
But hold on three db maybe we live in a yin-yang
world, right?
What's the saying?
Don't get this without thatright.
I think I made that saying up,so there's always got to be an
exchange, right.
So we've lowered the noisefloor, which is a positive for

(02:12:19):
us, so there has to be anegative.
What's the negative?
Loss of power.

Speaker 2 (02:12:24):
I argue positive for us.

Speaker 6 (02:12:24):
so there has to be a negative.

Speaker 2 (02:12:25):
What's the negative?
Loss of power.
The negative is no cell service, because you're in the middle
of fucking nowhere.

Speaker 4 (02:12:35):
He did not drink in a few months no, am I not
following do tell ziggy, do tell, don't leave us oh, wait a
minute.

Speaker 6 (02:12:50):
I thought I just told you guys the answer.
I thought I was waiting on.
Grouch to catch up.
I lost everybody here, okay sooh, yeah, when you drive a
ground stake, you've effectivelyput half of your antenna into a
low impedance.
You know, earth, that dependingon how can I cuss on here, I'm
having a real.

Speaker 1 (02:13:08):
Yeah, we're way beyond that.

Speaker 2 (02:13:09):
Yeah, go ahead um fuck, fuck, fuck, motherfuck,
motherfuck, fucking shit, fucking shit, smoking weed,
smoking weed.
Are we live?

Speaker 6 (02:13:17):
or is this a private 15?

Speaker 2 (02:13:19):
bucks little man, put that shit in my hand money
doesn't show that you owe me.
Owe me oh otherwise he's gonnastart singing oh, we, oh we oh
so, yeah.

Speaker 6 (02:13:32):
So the benefit, the positive, would be that okay,
great, we've lowered the noisefloor.
The negative is going to bethat well, in doing so, that
you've effectively put half yourantenna into the earth.
That's why it's quieter yep wayto ruin.
That's why I don't ground thething also, too, I I've been
having a hard time lately makingvideos and it's really just a

(02:13:56):
time availability thing for me.
And also, too, I came into thisas Ziggy and then I was like
you know, know, hey guys, younobody uses TV coax.
Oh, it's just me.
Oh, so I'd like I took thatconcept and ran with it and then
I tried to teach people how youcan do it.

(02:14:16):
And this is a funny thing abouthumans is that you can give them
Perfect data, right?
If they still don't think thatit's possible, they won't
believe it, and you can.
This is like you know, this isjust something very specific to
humans and it's why some peoplehave such hard conviction about,

(02:14:36):
you know, bullshit.
But I took that one and ranwith it for a while and then
realized that you know, there'sa lot of guys out there making
really great quality content.
I've got a family to raise, soI'll just, I'll just be here if
you need me, kind of thing, andI'll keep doing what I'm good at
, and that's making transformersand, uh, super high efficiency

(02:14:57):
chokes what do you know about it?
nothing the uh the.
The most recent choke that Imade for a guy, uh, right at the
band of interest for 20 meters, had almost uh negative 60 dbm
of attenuation.
That was a.
It was a pretty nice one and uhalso also.
It handles about uh three tofour thousand watts, no problem.

(02:15:19):
Oh, that's all, yeah, and it'llhandle more.

Speaker 2 (02:15:24):
I I think it'll do 10k without a problem actually
all right, I would love to see afucking an amplifier putting
out 10k uh, when you in florida, well all right so if I go down
to the hills for the winter yeah, we can.

(02:15:47):
We can light up some streetlamps just a street lamp some
all right sorry, eric, go ahead,go ahead have you seen my
wiener have you anyway.

Speaker 1 (02:15:59):
So let's uh, you know , let's shift gears here, like
we got one last giveaway, so I'mgonna finally run that here.
So I'm sure the bunch of peoplewaiting, we get uh pretty much
uh about 12 already in thegiveaway, 16 total in the chat.
So let's uh go ahead and runthis real quick here.
I'm gonna shrink you guys down, spin that wheel wheel, all fish

(02:16:23):
.
Alright, come on, click, let'sgo.

Speaker 6 (02:16:28):
Alright, there we go it's like doom scrolling right
close.

Speaker 2 (02:16:34):
I feel like I'm on Instagram all day come on oh
shit, I wanted to see that oneoh damn it, I closed it.

Speaker 6 (02:16:47):
I'll never see it, ever again, too late for you.

Speaker 1 (02:16:52):
Man, that's a big list, anyway, all right.
Well, continue your technicaltalk here.
That'll kind of bore the restof our audience while they're
waiting for the wheel of fish toslow down here.
Yeah, so kind of bore the restof our audience while they're
waiting for the wheel of fish toslow down here.

Speaker 6 (02:17:04):
Yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (02:17:07):
Chris Radio Life says that the Anand that you made
rocked.

Speaker 6 (02:17:13):
I'm glad you did.

Speaker 1 (02:17:15):
All right, cool Rabbit Ham.
You are a lucky winner ofanything in the Live Free in Ham
store store.
So if you head on over to uhlivefreeandhamcom for slash shop
, feel free to browse the uh youknow storefront there and once
you figure out what you want insize uh, send an email to

(02:17:37):
livefreeandham at gmailcom andwe'll make sure that uh, we ship
that on out to you.
So cool congratulationscongrats congrats.

Speaker 2 (02:17:46):
Don't send it via winlink, because it'll take me a
week to fucking get it.

Speaker 6 (02:17:50):
Yeah, exactly, also too what I really hate about our
hobby and people that, like youknow, start making you know
transformers with you knowtoroidal cores of you know
ferrite or nickel, zinc orwhatever, whatever they choose.
I'm really disappointed in,like the core choice, uh,

(02:18:10):
selected by most people, becauseI never see anybody
experimenting with 61 mix coresfor like higher frequencies,
saying like 20 meters to sixmeters, because that's the core
you use for, uh, for for thatarea of our, of our playground.
Um, the 43 seems to beeverybody's go-to and it's not

(02:18:32):
ideal.
Where does it roll off at?
I think it's like 10 megahertzis where it starts rolling off
at yeah, diggy where.

Speaker 1 (02:18:39):
What's your background in?

Speaker 6 (02:18:42):
Chevrolet's.
And Okay, what's yourprofessional career in?
I'm a mechanic.
Okay, More specifically, I'm anelectronics technician and I've
got a little reputation in thetown that I work in, St

(02:19:05):
Augustine, where Bozard Fordwill actually send me vehicles.

Speaker 2 (02:19:08):
Oh yeah, dude, saint augustine is one hell of a
fucking cool town no, I movedaway all right.
Well, it's a cool town to visit, like I've.
I've been there, I've beenthere several times.

Speaker 6 (02:19:21):
But you know what the locals get terrorizedized
nonstop because people come toour little town and then they
tear it up, like on the weekends, and then we're just left, you
know, during normal businesshours, monday through Friday,
picking up all the pieces.
You know, from Saturday andSunday night when everybody's
just in town, for you know ifthey come and they really Mickey

(02:19:41):
Mouse the town up.
There's buildings there thathave never existed and that are
in the wrong styling for thetown.
There's buildings that wereoriginal to its founding and
they demolished them to makeparking lot space.
So I don't believe that thetown that you see anymore is the
town.
It is in its entirety.

(02:20:01):
Um and uh, and the and thepolice, uh, in the town they're
very, um, they're very pickytowards the locals, like they
pick on the locals because theydon't want to.
You know somebody that's justthere for the weekend.
You know it's not worth thebother to them.
It seems like to me.
But all the locals in StAugustine, we all know all the

(02:20:24):
cops because they're all likehigh strung, because it's a very
high demand.
You know city to work in, whichI understand, but I have never
done so many not wrong things inmy life and been hassled by
cops so much in one town.
I had to leave.
Man, you can't even.
You can't even just like enjoyyourself in downtown st

(02:20:47):
augustine anymore.
It's all mickey mouse stuff,dude.
I had to leave it game over youever been?

Speaker 2 (02:20:52):
you ever been to potter's wax museum?
Yes, yes, dude, I freaking lovethat place.
It is so cool.

Speaker 3 (02:21:01):
Yeah, I'm sorry it's a wax museum it is what it is.

Speaker 2 (02:21:05):
It's got the presidents and like famous
people and I got pictures it's.

Speaker 6 (02:21:10):
I thought it was cool yeah so, uh, I actually used to
be a tour guide in saintaugustine.
I I actually owned twodifferent businesses when I
lived there, um and uh, I was a,um, I was a tour guide, um and
uh, I had this one story.
I didn't tell you anything liketruthful or factual about the

(02:21:31):
city.
I made up this long hour longscript one day and I started
taking people on tours aroundtown and they started paying me
lots of money and I would justflab at the mouth and just make
up this crap, right.
And so I made up the story ofbill the butcher.
And bill the butcher was a guywho came into town kind of like,

(02:21:51):
you know, jeff bezos.
He had, like the nice horse andthe pretty you know carriage
and he was always, you know, onvacation.
He had lots of money and, um,people went missing all the time
back then.
And bill was a murderer.
He was a murderous son of abitch but he worked inside of,
uh, like the, the laws of of thetown, right.
He kind of worked for the town, right, when people needed to be

(02:22:14):
disappeared.

Speaker 2 (02:22:16):
You know, I'm saying did his wife bake people into in
a meat pie.

Speaker 1 (02:22:20):
No, he didn't have a wife before we get into the, the
murder lore here.
Second, mike's gonna tortoiseis gonna take off here real
quick guys.
So, tortoise, you know, letfolks know what's going on.
You know, obviously, anythingup on your channel, uh, you know
, feel free to share that.
And uh, you know they can takeoff there, man.

Speaker 4 (02:22:38):
But again, thanks for hanging out with us and it's
definitely been a blast havingyou here I, I've got to get, um
I've I've got to get the videofor uh w2sc put together and, um
, I did not get the.
I did not get the video to myguy, so, um, that is my fault,

(02:23:00):
but um, I'm gonna get that upand I might try to go live
tomorrow with another photo.
Nice, okay, maybe I don't good.

Speaker 1 (02:23:11):
I got you on hammer alert, so I'll be listening for
you all right, well, we'll.

Speaker 4 (02:23:16):
We'll see how that works, but um other than that,
I'm gonna enjoy my fourth ofjuly weekend.
I'm gonna travel back up to NewEngland on Saturday and my bird
is about ready to explode.
She's literally climbing lapsin this cage right now.
She's like I need to go to bed,so she's enjoying me now.

Speaker 2 (02:23:39):
Well, Michael, happy fuck taxes day, Because
essentially that's what it isit's happy fuck taxes day it's
only a war crime.

Speaker 4 (02:23:52):
the first time.

Speaker 1 (02:23:56):
Dude, how can folks find you if they want to hang
out with you and whatnot?
Go ahead and throw your channelout there.

Speaker 4 (02:24:02):
You can find me on Twitter Silverland Twitter
underscore, overland.
I do have an Instagram TwitterSilverland underscore in between
also.
And find me on the radio, findme somewhere.
You can find me on Discord onall the happy ham Discords,

I don't know all of them, I'mthere somewhere somewhere,
somewhere and you can find mediscord just regular.
Just look my call up november 3,mike fox dude, awesome.

Speaker 1 (02:24:41):
Well, hey, thank you again for hanging out with us.

Speaker 2 (02:24:44):
It's not FML, it's MFL.
Mfl yes.

Speaker 1 (02:24:48):
Get that right there, Crouch.

Speaker 4 (02:24:52):
Mighty fine leprechaun.

Speaker 1 (02:24:54):
Motherfucking lesbian , anyway, moving on my fucking
life.

Speaker 4 (02:24:58):
That's a good one.

Speaker 1 (02:24:59):
That one works better than the one.

Speaker 4 (02:25:01):
My fucked up life.

Speaker 1 (02:25:02):
My fucked up life is pretty good too, Way better.

Speaker 4 (02:25:06):
Dude, awesome, love you, have fun.
Love you too, man.

Speaker 1 (02:25:11):
Thank you for crossing over to the dark side.
Man Looking for more potas, Hitme up when you get back up.
This way We'll do a pota.
I got the look.

Speaker 2 (02:25:19):
Boos, boos.

Speaker 4 (02:25:21):
No, just with the head down.
I got the look Nose Nose.
No, just Just with the headdown, and all you see is my nose
.
Later.

Speaker 1 (02:25:31):
Alright man, later I'm gonna Alright, where was I?
And then there were three.
Uh oh, now we're doing builds, the build series.

Speaker 2 (02:25:44):
So this is ziggy.
Ziggy gets technical.
Oh, I guess I'm fucking downson you want smart shit.

Speaker 6 (02:25:51):
You want it.
You want to.

Speaker 1 (02:25:52):
You want to go all night I don't know about all
night, but I'll go as far as Ican we'll just switch over to my
channel after that's right,we'll do we'll do like that one
night, where we're on threedifferent streams until six in
the morning.

Speaker 6 (02:26:06):
Oh gosh, holy crap.
We had a great time.
We didn't talk to each otherfor like a week after that,
though I was going to sayprobably not.

Speaker 2 (02:26:16):
We were all trying to catch up on sleep.

Speaker 6 (02:26:19):
What the hell is that ?
So this is a very hard item forme to get.
This is a 5 kilovolt rated, 100picofarad ceramic what they
call doorknob capacitor.
And isn't that just great, ithaving those screw down lugs
where you can just tap rightinto it.
You know, no soldering ironnecessary.

(02:26:41):
So this is the same thing asyour do I need to get oh boy,
we're getting.

Speaker 2 (02:26:54):
We're getting test equipment this is the same.

Speaker 1 (02:26:59):
I'd agree with you, james.

Speaker 6 (02:27:00):
Definitely looks like a flux capacitor so this is,
this is the capacitor.
And this is when I used to docapacitors, and I still do
capacitors for people when theywant me to build them something
pretty, because I get it.
You know what I mean.
Not everybody is ready to getbrainwashed like I am.
I don't actually use capacitorsin my NFEDs, but when they do

(02:27:23):
want it and because they wanteverything normal people they
use these.
These are TDKs, what I call bluecaps.
You can get these just aboutany value, but the rating on
these I can't remember what thisrating is, but I believe it's
probably a 3K rating, which isway, even still way, overkill.
For you know somebody's 100watt radio in the backyard.

(02:27:45):
But what I use these foroutside of the uh, you know,
inside the infed half wave tofix the higher bands, as they
say.
Um, I use one of these on theactual radiating element itself.
So right in the middle of theof the let's say it's an 80, you
know 130, some foot wire, ourfundamental 80 infed half wave
you put one of these.
You know I'm talking about eric.

(02:28:06):
If you put one of thesecapacitors in the middle of that
wire, what happens?
I'm just gonna nod and say, yes, okay, I didn't want to.
I didn't want to, I didn't wantto keep going.
If you didn't know, I wasassuming I'll catch up.

Speaker 1 (02:28:19):
I'll put it this way I'll catch up along the way.
I obviously know basicelectronics, but when it comes
to actually like puttingcircuits designed together,
forget it, I'm lost so.

Speaker 6 (02:28:28):
So, if you that's, that's a 22 long rifle, yeah,
that is this is what I do, thatI know.
Okay, this is what I tap when Iget nervous, um but.

Speaker 1 (02:28:37):
If you.

Speaker 6 (02:28:38):
If you can only say one nice thing about me, eric,
just say that ziggy knows hisshit when it comes to infed half
waves.
That's, that's all I ask, okay,um, I spent thousands of hours
on on them, um, and I've comefull circle, but anyway.
So a lot of people bitchbecause they can't get into the
voice area on 75 meters, on the80 meter band, because the

(02:28:59):
fundamental half wave harmoniclands you somewhere around 3 5,
which is, in my opinion, uselessunless you're an ft8 fanboy.
On 80 meters, which is stupidanyway, like I mean.
Sorry if I wanted to talk upand down anyway.
Um, you got such as this, suchnice long wire you could be
going doing more stuff with.

(02:29:20):
Um, you put this in the middleof your radiating element.
It's going to push just thatone band into 75 meters.

Speaker 1 (02:29:30):
It's going to only on 80 meters, electrically shorten
right in the middle of the bandor where the lower part of the
band.

Speaker 6 (02:29:37):
So I, I think 100 pico farad um will shoot you.
Let's see, probably up to three, nine okay, as a resonant but it
doesn't affect all the otherharmonics, it just basically
fixes your, your, you know, sothat you can rag chew with the

(02:29:58):
boys, because I've I've seenthis before where hams they'll
put up their fundamental 80, buttheir older hams and this is
where the problem comes in isthe older hams.
They want to talk on 75, theywant nothing to do with you know
, the, the cw and the, the fthside of 80 meters, which um that
makes sense right, it'sunderstandable.
They're older, they want to.

Speaker 1 (02:30:18):
They weren't doing that back in those days anyway,
when they had separatetransmitters.

Speaker 6 (02:30:22):
So so so you'll get these hams and they buy these uh
standard 49 to 1 twisted withthe 100, you know, cap installed
, and then you know they tune itfor all the main harmonics and
then they look at 80 and they gowell, I'm sitting at 35, well,
I'll just use my uh, you know mywide range auto tuner to fix it

(02:30:42):
.
And then they smoke stuff.
And it happens all the time, man.
All the time they smoke amps, they smoke tuners, they smoke
radios, and it's all becausethis one reason I'm telling you
they're trying to get on the 75meters with a fundamental 80
meter infed half wave and theydon't know about this.

Speaker 1 (02:31:04):
And what's sad is that they should because they're
ogs and they're 80 years oldyeah, oh, come on, dude, like I
know a lot of ogs, especiallylike I'm a 30 year old ham, so
in essence I know a lot of thoseold g's that they very much
either know it or they don't,and that's the problem is that
like you might get a couple ofogs that are, you know, they've
heard through the grapevine, butthey're not going to know that

(02:31:26):
the stuff that you've already, you know, kind of unveiled along
the way.
So yeah, it's not surprising.
I mean it happens.

Speaker 6 (02:31:35):
They know better than to be trying to tune something
with an 11 to one.
Sbr is what I'm trying to getat.

Speaker 1 (02:31:41):
They're still going to do it.
One sabr is what I'm trying toget at.
They're still gonna do it.
They're still gonna do it.
That's what a tuner's for rightyou know.
You get a tuner that could 10to 1.
What's 11 to 1?

Speaker 6 (02:31:48):
no big deal no, the cap's not polarized, because
this cap is specifically madefor rf applications so it
doesn't matter which orientationyou put it in no man, I feel
like we're on a ham radioworkbench episode.

Speaker 1 (02:32:03):
This is crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:32:04):
This is weird listen, eric, if if you want to talk
about smart stuff, right, youjust got to bring ziggy or to
into the, into the mix.
Well, that I know to.

Speaker 1 (02:32:16):
But yeah, man, I 90 of the shit that fucking ziggy
and to talk about, like way thefuck over my head sorry, but
it's me excited dude, it gets meexcited too, because it's like
holy shit, I don't know what thefuck you're talking about, but
man, like it's cool yeah, I'm abig hands-on guy, so in this

(02:32:41):
it's like you could talktheoretical, you could talk, you
know, at theoreticalapplication, but unless I'm
actually physically doing itit's not ever going to.
You know, makes total sense tome, I feel, ya, I.

Speaker 2 (02:32:53):
Would have never thought of that.
I gotta admit, you may not be acomplete idiot after all.

Speaker 1 (02:32:58):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (02:33:07):
What are we graphing today?
So this is no.
Is it the next harmonic?
Um, this is just a.
I just wanted to show you likea quick demonstration of how we
can.
Uh, oh, you know, I don't, Ionly want to go from I don't
want one to 30.
Let's start at uh, 14 megs.
There we go.
That makes it, that makes iteasier.
So here's our, uh, here's our20 meter infed half wave, and

(02:33:29):
let me tune it real quick.
So this is basically what youwould, you would get, I'm
thinking you'd have four, fourharmonics.
I'm sorry, let me get a fourthone.
That's pretty good.
No, I'm I'm doing somethingwrong.
How many feet am I at?
I should be at 60 feet.
Yeah, there we go, all right.

(02:33:52):
So here's our, here's our 20meter infed half wave.
Right, this is like what youwould expect.
You get your 10, 15 and 20, yep, right, and then on a 40, you
just get that extra 40.
So let's just, let's justpretend that we've got, we're
doing 40 today.
So, yeah, so we still get our40.
And so these are our four bands.
But guess what?
We're not looking at an infedhalf wave, we're looking through

(02:34:13):
a piece of 75 ohm coax, righthere at these frequencies, and
look, they all fall to 50 ohms.
Yeah, exactly kind of where weneed them.
Now, of course, you get to thehigher end of 10.
You may have a little bit ofissue here, but here's the point
.
If, if you had a 60 foot pieceof 75 ohm coax, your radio

(02:34:36):
wouldn't know the difference.

Speaker 1 (02:34:37):
Yeah, no, right, pretty much and as long as you
give it 50 ohms, it doesn'treally care how it looks like it
yeah well, I mean it's gonna.

Speaker 6 (02:34:44):
It's gonna harmonize within the 75 ohm impedance to
these highs here in between, andthen it's gonna it's gonna
repolarize again back to 50 ohmsat the bands of interest.

Speaker 1 (02:34:55):
So question for you yeah, where where's your kind of
passion?
You more of a like, you shootfor, like, the 160 side and
trying to challenge that longwire, or you, like, you know you
like to sit at the 80 side and,and you know, improve upon that
as you get as much as you canum you're you're talking about

(02:35:15):
for an infed oh, in generalanything, whether it's a, you
know dipole, whether it's aoff-center.

Speaker 6 (02:35:21):
My main focus is 20 through 6.
Okay, yeah, yeah, because 80 iseasy and if 80 is easy, 40 is
just as easy.
Yeah, right, I don't, um, Idon't do anything with 160,
other than help, uh, uh, oldguys with their crazy off-center
feds that they like to use.
Yeah, crazy, crazy long, hundreds and hundreds of feet.

(02:35:46):
Yeah, I think I've got.

Speaker 2 (02:35:49):
I think I've got a few contacts on 160, that's.

Speaker 6 (02:35:52):
I've never, not once nope that.
And also, uh, six meters.
I've never heard or made acontact.
But understand something aboutme I'm not your typical ham.
Um, I build antennas and I testthem and that's kind of what I
do.
I don't even like.
People are like oh, I don't.

Speaker 1 (02:36:08):
Now, when you test them, do you say, you actually
field test them or you justbasically bench test them?

Speaker 6 (02:36:14):
I don't bench test antennas.
I think it's nice to have alittle bit of bench data and it
gets you extremely close.
Nice to have a little bit ofbench data and it gets you
extremely close.
But I've seen antennas totallyuh, uh, fall apart or come
together when they're out there, even if I have two, and I go
back to back I'm like, oh, thisis, this is perfect.

(02:36:34):
And I take it out there and I'mlike, nope, it still does that
thing that they all do and itall sucks, you know, past 20
meters and up.
So, oh, I've got a fix, let'sthrow a capacitor on it, come on
.

Speaker 1 (02:36:47):
So so you're the type of guy that won't like poda or
making contacts aren't aren'tyour thing, it's primarily just
like you know, making that Imade a poda video I did my, my,
apologies.
Circle of trust, that one time.
What that one time?
Circle of trust, you know?

Speaker 6 (02:37:06):
I did it.
I did it.
I did it just just so I couldsay I did a poda, because
everybody's like you've neverdone a poda.
You can't talk about podaunless you've never done a poda.
And I said where's my camera?
Where's my camera?

Speaker 1 (02:37:20):
yeah true?

Speaker 6 (02:37:20):
well, they ran me ragged, boy, I was out of breath
.
I was like scott, damn y'alllike this.

Speaker 1 (02:37:26):
This is work just like paul likes jumping out of
perfectly good working for halfgood working planes.
I'm very much like all aboutyou know the next pile up.
That's where I I I'm like allabout like I, I will literally
spend every waking moment tryingto seek out the next pile up.
And I know that probably verymuch is like what are you

(02:37:48):
talking about?
I don't understand that, butyou know.
But when you get into, like youknow, antenna design and
optimization and just tweakingthat little, extra little bit of
information out of you know alittle bit of tidbit of
information, or tweaking it in away like for me that's like I
get it and I like it.
But at the same time, when I goout in the actual you know

(02:38:09):
field, I'm not like thinkinglike how can I get the extra you
know one or two more db out ofthis process?
Because I'm not thinking thatway.

Speaker 6 (02:38:17):
That's why this hobby needs people on both sides.

Speaker 1 (02:38:20):
I don't disagree with that, and I think it's.

Speaker 6 (02:38:22):
It's important for folks like yourself to push that
envelope every time and keep usfolks a great distinction that
you just made, right, um, uh,because when I was saying
earlier that I was disappointedin, you know, the old men, uh,
some in particular.
Um, that that I guess doesn'tapply to everybody, because that

(02:38:44):
applies to the beam counters, like me in the in the hobby.
Right, the guys that chasedecimals?
Okay, you know, the guys thatare chasing decimals, they
should, they should know alittle bit more about
electronics, and I expect themto.

Speaker 1 (02:38:59):
Um so I guess I have high standards but, dude and I,
I I love the fact that you havea high standard for that,
because I don't and in essence,it only encourages me to say
that you know, when I'm out inthe field and using these
antennas, I can give you realworld values and say, here, this
is what I'm seeing, and you canbe like oh well, this, these

(02:39:20):
three values need to be tweakedor this area needs to be
improved.
And you know you make my lifethis, these three values need to
be tweaked or this area needsto be improved.
And you know you make my lifebetter.
But at the same time, at thesame, you know, at the same
instance, you're actually makingyour life better because you're
improving your skill set, you're learning how to optimize,
you're learning how to grow, you know your skill set and
improve something that you knowis good in its base form but can

(02:39:43):
be always improved upon anditerated on and, you know, made
better.

Speaker 6 (02:39:47):
So, RF being being the one beautiful thing in life
that we can not see.
You know what I mean.
If we could see it, thisconversation would be quite
different for sure.
Right, I agree.
So that day is coming too Ibelieve that day is coming very
soon where we will be able to inreal time crf and be able to
attenuate and be able to look atdifferent things in a it'll

(02:40:08):
change the game.

Speaker 1 (02:40:09):
it'll change the, the whole entire you know playing
field, I'm sure.
Because for those that, yeah, Imean like, I mean I see what
flex is doing, I see some of thechanges they're doing in their
transmitters and all of thataspect, and just you know, some
of those small little pockets ofgrowth, it excites me because
it's like okay it, we're notsitting idle and we're not

(02:40:30):
saying like, okay, this is justgood enough, let's just stay
with it.

Speaker 6 (02:40:33):
You know we're doing exactly what hams should be
doing, which is iterating andmaking things better and, um,
being very uh, endearing, Ithink, has lost its steam in ham
radio too.
Like you know, we live in aworld where if I'm too hard, you

(02:40:54):
know on one guy about you know, getting his general or whatever
like that, I don't know, I justI got to where I am because I
had some rough teachers and Ilove every single one of them,
yeah, and um, they always justleft me with questions, which I
think is the best kind ofteacher, right, like hey, good
luck sleeping tonight.
Here you go.

Speaker 1 (02:41:18):
Me, I had the opposite.
I always had the guys that youknow, the inventors in my life,
that always be like, hey, askthe question is this something
that you know you're comfortablewith?
If it's not, then like what, what can be done to improve or
iterate or make it better, orhow to, you know, grow it, how
to, you know, find someone whocan actually, you know, expand

(02:41:38):
upon it.
You know, and it really kind ofjust, you know, set me in a
different place, you know, tothinking both electronics, both,
and you know it and all of thataspect.
So, yeah, I do die dude, I lovethis here, the fact that you're
like super major, like almost toyou know a fault passionate
you're not, I mean you are notlike I will tear antennas apart

(02:42:02):
dude, and that's totally fine aslong as you're not tearing into
the person because they don'teither understand or they're not
at the level where you're likeyour knowledge is already, and
so if you're passing that on andencouraging them to do it, then
, dude, you are like you knowaces in my book, as they say.
So you know I say keep going.
You know, even if, even ifpeople think that you're like a

(02:42:23):
kajio, you know, they say so youknow I say keep going, you know
, even if, even if people thinkthat you're like a kaji old, you
know person who just you know, like you don't know antenna
theory when, when ziggy takes amassively overpriced antenna and
says this is what it really isand it's a piece of shit Like
that means something oh yeah, dude, and we need people like

(02:42:46):
that because that was a big risk.
You have to look at it at thesame time, like what are you
like?
I mean, you're risking your, your integrity, but at the same
time you're not risking much, yeah, but at the same time, you
know, it takes a long time forpeople to come around and
realize that, yeah, it is apiece of shit.
You know, and no matter howmuch they've toted the brand or

(02:43:08):
they made it, you know, popularor whatever, I you know trust me
being in it in the professionalspace that that happens more
often than not.
So you know, I, I always seekout folks like yourself that you
know are willing to, you know, rip into something for the
purposes of not to tear it down, but the purpose is to actually
like validate whether or not itactually says the claims that it

(02:43:29):
.
You know it states.

Speaker 6 (02:43:30):
So speaking of claims , I wanted to touch base.
You were talking about how do Iget my metrics for the, the
devices that I build?
Um, so everybody loves to goout and do whisper.
This is grouch's favorite go-toright and I totally respect
whisper.
However, um, myself and acouple other builders, we, we
were talking one day thatthere's this aspect about

(02:43:51):
whisper wherein that you're kindof magically all riding the
same carpet you know what I meanlike the same heartbeat.
It's like it knows exactlywhere to look, when to look.
You know for that, you knowclip of data if it's there, and
also it sends that clip of datahow many times per transmission.
Yeah, right, it's like hey, I'msicky, I'm sicky, I'm sicky,

(02:44:15):
I'm sicky.
Hey, I'm sicky, I'm sicky.
You know the chances of it,possibly.
So, uh, propagation has alwaysbeen a hard metric for me to
digest and I've always fallen tothe prey that I have to provide
reception report type stufffrom my antennas.
And no, I don't.
I have the ability to just flatout draw how it's going to

(02:44:39):
radiate on paper.
Draw how it's going to radiate,uh, on paper.
Um, I was taught some reallyneat tricks by the mr hollywood
himself where I can actuallydraw antenna radiation patterns
freehand.
Give me pen and paper, yeah, wecan draw this up.
And, uh, what a beautiful manhe is.
Um, oh, he's so smart.

(02:45:00):
Yeah, he, uh, he gives me timeof day every once in a while.
So so, with that, as long as um,as long as all the parameters
that we all know, his hands like, let's, you know, get the trees
out of the way, let's, you know, make sure, whatever our soil
situation is, you know, notgoing to impede on us.
You know, we're in infinitespace.

(02:45:20):
Yes, exactly right, closeenough.
Let's, uh, let's make sure allthe basic parameters are met.
And then let's go ahead andjust leave propagation alone,
because that's its own thing, and let's focus on getting, uh,
the best made, antenna as highup, uh as we can.
And that and that alone has beenoh, and then also, I I say all

(02:45:44):
that bullshit.
To get right back to this point, how does it um present to the
user?
Now, that's a very cryptic wayof saying um, is his radio gonna
, gonna be able to jive with it,or is he gonna, is he gonna
fight with this thing a littlebit?
So the number one thing and youknow I have to, I have to go

(02:46:06):
back on some some core beliefshere is that sometimes you have
to make a device lossy uh inorder to be more usable, and
nothing says that better than myweird creation that I came up
with one day called the therandom mint.
I took one of the world'slossiest cores and I put the
world's most lossiest uh corewinding on top of it.

(02:46:28):
Ta-da, you have something thatyou can tune anything with all
right I have it right here.
One of them.
I'm the beefy one.
Yeah, chris.
Chris was showing me hisyesterday.
He's so proud of it.
I'm glad he likes it.
Yeah, this is a uh.

(02:46:49):
This is this is what I call.
Thanks, man, this is no.
That's another thing I do toolike.

Speaker 1 (02:46:53):
If they don't look like, this is not if they don't
look this, good, um, then Iwon't if it doesn't look like it
belongs in a jewelry case andit could be sold for six figures
, then it ain't worth uh, yourtime so that's the gucci of
toroid roid.
Yeah, exactly roids, exactlygucci roids.

Speaker 6 (02:47:13):
Thanks I really, I really appreciate that I spent a
lot of time on this and itshows, so I'll toot your horn a
little bit.

Speaker 1 (02:47:22):
I love engineers who take time to be able to make
something just as pretty andprofessional as it is functional
.

Speaker 6 (02:47:32):
You know where that's from.

Speaker 1 (02:47:34):
I can't see what you're looking at Right on my
finger His finger that cut.
Well, no, I can't see the cut,but yeah, I get roughly the cut.
Yeah for the Torrid.

Speaker 6 (02:47:42):
You can get burned on an ammo wire if you try to
straighten it out too fast.
Oh, good to know.
Yeah, buddy, I got lit up.
I was standing up trying to beall slick and just pulled
through six feet of it real fast.

Speaker 2 (02:47:57):
Yeah, you can also get burned if you hold on to the
paracord just a little tootight when you throw the
throwback.
Exactly.

Speaker 6 (02:48:07):
The lossy core.

Speaker 1 (02:48:08):
lossy winding makes for a shit ton of fun, although
did you strip a lot of enameloff of it when you ran it
through your fingers.

Speaker 6 (02:48:18):
No, I didn't.

Speaker 1 (02:48:19):
Wow, that's a bummer.

Speaker 6 (02:48:20):
There might be some enamel in my fingers still.
Okay, they didn't.
Wow, that's a bummer.
There might be some enamel inmy fingers still, but yeah, so
this was a weird creation, because this is totally what I
don't believe in.
Right is and um, he wants tomake a clear cover.
I should make you a clear coverand send you one.
This, this little thing, it itgoes against everything I've
ever stood from, from the verybeginning of my resident.
You know lifestyle.

(02:48:41):
It turns out you can still hookup some junk to rf and make
contacts.
You know what I mean well it's.

Speaker 1 (02:48:50):
It's the old adage of like you could take a dummy
load and make a contact with it.
It's like that whole premisethat I get it like I.
Like you could design and youknow graph out and you know test
out every little aspect of anantenna.
But until you bring it out inthe woods or out into a parking

(02:49:11):
lot or what the heck are youbringing girls onto the show for
?
Oh boy, yeah, see, I getdistracted fast squirrel, yeah,
it's one of those things 's likeyou know that amazes me alone
in the hobby.
It's like you know, from whatthey say, practically what
exists on paper in theorydoesn't always apply in practice

(02:49:33):
.
And you know, I'm sure youprobably have proven that theory
out several times um, I alsohave a creation that I call the
zigzag.

Speaker 6 (02:49:41):
Did I go over that one with you, grouch?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So the zigzag.
Eric, you're going to love this, right, you can build one for
like $5.

Speaker 1 (02:49:50):
Sure.

Speaker 6 (02:49:51):
Yeah, that's the best part.
So you take four random lengthradials right, somewhere about
like 20 to 30 feet long orsomething like that, but random,
right, yeah, exactly no mathbehind, like you know 20 to 30
feet long or something like that.
And uh, but random, right, yeah, yeah, exactly yeah, no math
behind it.
And then, uh, on your centerconnector for your so239 after
your choke, right, you have twodifferent radiating elements

(02:50:15):
coming off and neither one ofthose uh need to be by
themselves inherently uhresonant.

Speaker 1 (02:50:21):
You know, like, put one like in between you know 20
and 30, and put the other one inbetween, like uh, 15 and 17 yep
tune up anything, oh yeah, I'vedone that with my wolf of
recoil, where I've, you know, myvertical itself, you know the
the ground rating elements.
So you know I've done you know, one set like that's 12 feet,

(02:50:41):
the other one's 35 feet and youknow it's.
It's an interesting scenario,like I haven't gone to the
length that you've probably donein terms of like understanding
all of that, but yeah, it's,it's an interesting kind of you
know kind of process to learnthat stuff the rando double
ribakov which I have not everplayed with yet, but the rando

(02:51:04):
double ribakov.

Speaker 6 (02:51:04):
What are you talking about?
Is this a product somebody'sselling?

Speaker 2 (02:51:08):
no, I'm just saying like you should make one,
because you're talking aboutlike random, uh, radials and
random two elements going uplike making a random two element
ribakov, and just fucking seewhat happens when you play with
it.

Speaker 1 (02:51:27):
So you got an intended design that really kind
of stumps you these days keepsme up at night.

Speaker 6 (02:51:37):
Is that what you mean ?
Same thing, give me a minute, Ican come up with one.
Okay, so there's a.
We've all seen it.
There's the big beautiful.
Where did I save this?

Speaker 1 (02:51:54):
the big beautiful bill.
No, that's not the, the bigbeautiful inverted v.

Speaker 6 (02:52:02):
Um, that has a.
I guess it has like two steppermotors or maybe just one
stepper motor, but anyway he'sable to change the length of the
v but keep the height becauseit can like pull in and reel, oh
, like the two legs.
Okay, and I'm not hating on it.
I love the design, mechanicallyright, like the mechanics of it

(02:52:25):
, the design of it.
But in my opinion, um, he's got, uh, he's got this big, heavy
stepper motor in a, in anenclosure with all of its
hardware.
You know we're talking pounded.
We're talking pounded is, Ithink, is well over 10 pounds.
It's a big enclosure too.
Um, the mast he had to use musthave been the top pole, was

(02:52:49):
probably that big around and thewhole thing was still, like you
know, leaning, bending, right.
I was just totally impractical.
Um, uh, to, to, that was thatwas my biggest peeve.
Uh, it's a beautiful idea butit's too heavy.
And then I thought to myself Igot an idea.
Why don't we just take all thatheavy stuff out of there?

(02:53:12):
And you know, like the blinds, how it's got, like the loop cord
, and you just keep pulling it.
Yep, right, you could just havea loop of string coming down
and if you wanted automatic, youcould just loop around a pulley
but put all the heavy stuffdown here and we'll just run a
basically a belt up there, soall we're doing is spinning
something.

(02:53:32):
We're gonna eliminate like atleast 10 pounds, and then, plus,
we don't have to go up with ourcontrol wires anymore either.
Right?

Speaker 1 (02:53:40):
sort of like the uh vertical the stepper has right
now.
I think, right, it's gonna,it's a 40 through 10 vertical
with the counter, uh elevatedcounterpoise, but kind of the
same.
You know, all the mechanics areat the lower part of the
antenna or primarily at the baseof the you know tripod or
whatever right, no, you, you gotit, it's just we're.

Speaker 6 (02:54:02):
We're just talking about having all the heavy stuff
up top.
Right, they have all the, allthe mechanics at the.
So this is a quarter wave, thatyou're talking about, an
adjustable quarter wave I got itright, just you.
You wanted me to pick somethingto gripe about.
I found one for you.

Speaker 1 (02:54:16):
I got more I'm sure you do, is like I'm sure every
antenna at this point somewherealong in its evolution is
basically caused you to go.
Why did it do that?

Speaker 6 (02:54:27):
Did you know that your standard dipole one leg's
actually supposed to be about 5%longer than the other?

Speaker 1 (02:54:32):
No, I did not know that.
Why so?

Speaker 6 (02:54:37):
You can actually make a dipole present at 50 ohms
instead of somewhere a littlebit higher.

Speaker 1 (02:54:44):
That I knew, yeah, that, that that makes sense.
But what, what, what?
And so what's the percentage oflike why one is in?

Speaker 6 (02:54:52):
and uh depends upon your height above ground, but it
does.
It does something I believe thecorrect term is called loading
and you're just, you're changingwhich leg has the, the, the
higher impedance, right, and,and, and.
By doing so you're essentiallyjust slightly off off, off

(02:55:16):
centering your monoband, and youcan, you can, for exchange for
a little bit of reactance, youcan actually correct the uh, uh,
I'm sorry, resistance.

Speaker 1 (02:55:25):
you can, you can correct the impedance
interesting just a little bit ofan offset, not much yeah,
intent is always amaze me, but Ijust I have not, because I'm
still enjoying the, the activityof doing poda and getting out

(02:55:47):
and making contacts, because Ispent, we'll say, most of my
original ham career as a no-codetechnician and never really
could get morse code, andbecause I never really could get
morse code, I never had theopportunity to do hF bands.
So when I finally became theCOVID general ham, I have never
looked back and really justtrying to you know, understand

(02:56:08):
or build antennas.
I think you know it'sdefinitely a skill to have and
understand, because it canprovide you a plethora of you
know, you know information andyou know both in the field as
well as you know on the benchkind of thing.
And uh, yeah, dude, I can, Ilove people like yourself.

(02:56:31):
I guess I almost envy, feelfolks like yourself, because
you're that's all you ever thinkabout like, you're like.
You just think about like, howcan I modify, how can I change
this, how can I improve upon it?
How can I, you know, basicallyrun it through nnma, you know to
, you know figure out what thefield, uh plot is and all of
that other stuff.
And meanwhile I'm like, dude, just give me the antenna.

Speaker 6 (02:56:51):
I want to go out and operate we've uh, oh no, did I
get it?

Speaker 5 (02:56:58):
I've got a I got to run it first.

Speaker 6 (02:56:59):
Sorry guys.

Speaker 2 (02:57:01):
Yeah, just make it work.

Speaker 6 (02:57:05):
Just make that thing.

Speaker 1 (02:57:07):
I watch Callum all the time when he goes over all
his verticals and I'm like dude,I get it, but like my brain
just shuts off.
Like that RF bubble looksawesome, but give me the antenna
.
I want to go play with it.
I want to see what I can get.

Speaker 6 (02:57:24):
Let me close this and let's go back to what it is,
okay.
Oh, and I got currents thistime.
Let's go ahead and zoom thatinverted v.
Yeah, so it's an inverted v andif you look over here, you see
this crazy little porcupine yeah, it's like ground radials so no
, not ground radials.
It's acting as a little bit ofa capacity hat.
So I'm giving uh, I'm giving rf, I'm giving rf an option, but
it's down here at the ground.

(02:57:45):
Normally, when we think aboutcapacity hats, they're up in the
sky, they're higher.

Speaker 1 (02:57:48):
Right, I found out, they work fucking anywhere yeah,
no, I, if there's a few innfeds those sort of like that,
they recommend you know lower, lower, you know almost at the
ground level and you know thoseare, the better.

Speaker 6 (02:58:00):
Those are the high impedance ones, like the 64 to
ones, and I I would never sellanybody uh, one with that high
of an impedance.
That's just too much damnimpedance.
You're losing your efficienciesin the dirt.
However, it is a very easy touse intonable antenna at that at
that ratio.
So hold on.
Yeah, um, like, like you said,no, this is what you need.

(02:58:24):
You need something that thatthat works for you, sure?
Yeah, I agree.
Yeah, is that what you weregetting at?
Well?

Speaker 1 (02:58:31):
yeah, it's kind of funny, yes, you do and like, in
the long run, to be the mostefficient, to be the best
operator, to be able to get thebest production out of both the
you know the bands, the bandsyou want to operate on the radio
, the equipment, the antenna, all of that, all of that is
super important you're talkingabout having a loadout of

(02:58:52):
options.

Speaker 6 (02:58:53):
Is that true?
Is that what you're saying?

Speaker 1 (02:58:56):
yes and no.
I mean like it's multifaceted.
I get where you're coming fromwith somebody has one handgun
correct?

Speaker 6 (02:59:02):
yeah, yeah, exactly the best way to say it not a
problem, I'm just.
I just think that there needsto be more people critical about
antennas, because I feel likewe all don't disagree.
Because I hear other hamstalking and I'm like they're
saying nice things aboutantennas and I look at their
face and I'm like I don't, Idon't fucking believe you.
You're saying that because youknow that guy and that guy's

(02:59:24):
your friend, but you know, it'salways some story and it's like
oh no, this is the best antennain the world.

Speaker 1 (02:59:29):
Same thing with radios, I mean, like you know,
there's a for every one ham thatlikes an icon versus a yeju.
It's, you know, the same, youknow kind of philosophy.
It's like, oh, I'm gonna, youknow, be in the bandwagon or I'm
going to be against thebandwagon and the antennas,
don't, you know, disappoint inthat area too.
But although it's not as to say, ziggy, that your majority is

(02:59:50):
not the case, your minority, like they're have, folks like
you are important.

Speaker 6 (02:59:54):
But minority within a minority.

Speaker 1 (02:59:56):
Exactly right, but dude the value you bring to this
if someone actually stops andtakes the time to understand it
is like freaking phenomenalthat's very nice of you, that,
that that means a lot, thank youI appreciate you

Speaker 6 (03:00:12):
doing it if you look at these blue lines.
So let's, let's take offcurrents for a minute.
Let's talk about what the hell.
This shit is all right.
So you, you spotted it.
It's an inverted v and from thetop down, all we have is just a
couple radials.
Now I've gone out of my way, because this program always
wants to make shit symmetrical, and, uh, I've gone ahead and
I've laid them out in a notquite so symmetrical kind of

(03:00:33):
like, as you would.
You know, trying to be as goodas you could in the backyard.
So there's that human elementto it.
Um, then this is the capacityhat, which is just basically a
whole bunch of just scrap wire, insulated.
Uh, that's just kind of laidaround the ground a little bit
okay, in kind of an idealsituation.
Some are kind of sticking up,but anyway, just a couple of

(03:00:54):
different places to presentdifferent impedance paths at the
very tip, okay, um, where the, where the high voltage wants to
live.
Now, what have I done here?
I've run this at 20 meters.
Now, this is actually two wireshere's one and here's the other
one.
You see them now oh nice and seehow only one's connected to

(03:01:17):
this capacitive hat and theother one's not.
Okay, yep, I got that.
So these are.
This is actually speaker wire,so they run parallel to each
other and then one's cut shortand then the other leg continues
.

Speaker 1 (03:01:28):
So that's real easy to build and that short is for
what reason?

Speaker 6 (03:01:33):
um, uh, to provide yet another option for the rf to
to to do its thing to find abetter path to drain off.
Okay to to not go back into theradio.
We're trying to get it, we'retrying to give it as many
options out here to go play, because we're trying to keep the
operator as happy as possible.
So with a choke, and now wehave the radials and you can see

(03:01:54):
, at 20 megahertz, um, 20megahertz, 20 meters, we have
this high current point righthere, but then it disappears and
it gets all dissipated withinthere, right, and the vertical
means that we've actuallychanged polarity.
We went from a horizontal to avertical polarization, so that

(03:02:16):
just makes all kinds of silly.
So it's got basically a sink todrain into right here and then
here on the shorter one.
Look at this.
See how the current matchesright here.
It goes straight to the tip andit's happy.
Okay.
Yeah, so this just happens to bea very close working area.

(03:02:39):
And what these two are doing?
These two wires are playing oneach other and they're also
playing off these radials.
Now, this is an older vision.
I haven't updated this, butthese need to be different links
, because you can see thecurrents on the radials but not
all of them see how there's onewith high current and this one
has low current yeah, I see thatthey all meet in one place and

(03:03:00):
they all want to fight it out,so they'll actually do a little
bit of nullification.
Yeah, they cancel each other outbefore they continue.
Now, if you put a here andbefore the radio, this thing is
practically invisible and youcan tune up any frequency you
want.
And you have used no pen, nopaper, no math and so how much
wire are you actually throwingup all together?

(03:03:23):
Um, I think, if you let me lookat my wire eight, where's the
big numbers?
10, 30 feet?
I think it was.

Speaker 3 (03:03:36):
I've written down not bad hold on I would have
thought it would have been more.

Speaker 6 (03:03:42):
No, I'm sorry.
Okay, so I've got a 61-foot anda 56.
I got a 61 and a 56 radiatingelement in here because it's all
in meters.
I had to like write it down andthen at the time I had only had
what I had.
For whatever reason.
I had 18.5-foot radials, um,but yeah, I think you could.

(03:04:04):
The point is is that this isn'tum, there's no math behind this
and I don't think it reallymatters all too much that you
follow exactly what I did.

Speaker 1 (03:04:16):
As long as you get the concept close and you do
some proper choking and you givethe rf enough off, enough
options, this could be anemergency antenna for anybody,
totally dude, the fact that theone thing I've learned from
watching calum a lot is that, like, the experimenting aspect
of it is super important tounderstanding both the

(03:04:37):
fundamental side of things andjust in being able to do exactly
what you just did there withthat design, like you know,
understand it, at the same timealso execute upon it.
And so like, yeah, dude, thatyeah interesting, yeah, and stop
.
We have to stop now because II've got too much on my plate
now.
I can't keep doing intendedthinking about doing a tentative

(03:04:58):
design and add that to my plate.
You know, step in here, grouchplease.
You know, like let's talk aboutskydiving or let's switch up
the topic a little bit, or doyou freeze up there?
Did elon get you?
I think he did grouch you there.

Speaker 6 (03:05:14):
I wonder if he I wonder if he like paused his
screen on purpose?

Speaker 1 (03:05:19):
no, elon got him, I think.
Yep, elon got him, that'shilarious I have uh several uh
screen captures of uh his facebeing locked up because of elon
that's pretty, that's prettygreat.

Speaker 6 (03:05:32):
Are you on?
Are you on discord oh?

Speaker 1 (03:05:33):
yeah, I'm on several, which one?

Speaker 6 (03:05:35):
did you uh on toads?
Is is my home base yeah, justlook up.
Uh, n1jur, I'm on toads okayholy crap, it's midnight n1jur
it most certainly is um.

Speaker 1 (03:06:00):
I'm not good at this.
Oh discord, that's fine, don'tworry about it's all right.

Speaker 6 (03:06:05):
My hoagie emergency antenna is the horizontal
sections of my rain gutters.
It's all tied together to anine one.
It's nice because it won't comedown in a storm and it does
pretty good for invis never saynever.
There, james, I've had guttersfall down in storms a lot yeah,
absolutely I'm glad, I'm glad,uh, just the tip, that's great.

(03:06:26):
Um, I'm glad that he has uh anantenna like that always
deployed, and and that's I.
I used to hate the rain gutterantenna when I first found out
about it I was like why, why, why, why.
And then I go, you know what?
It's better than nothingdropped off.
Yeah, better than nothingthat's well.

Speaker 1 (03:06:46):
The old adage is the best antenna you have is what
you have in front of you, kindof thing.
So yeah, I I very much like.
I mean, I have my antennas 8010in the backyard.
I'm in an hra it goes the worst.

Speaker 6 (03:06:57):
Uh, yeah, the worst antenna is the one that you
haven't put up yet that is true, right or soon to put up.

Speaker 1 (03:07:04):
Yeah, right, yeah, um , yeah, it's it.
You know, it's kind of one ofthose things that, like, I love
the, the, the idea of exploringantennas, because it's never,
like it's not absolute, there'salways some caveat or some
option or some you know uh,exception in some case, because

(03:07:25):
there's always a trade-off withantennas.
You know, you probably verymuch, know very well, so it's uh
, yeah, it's a good hobby.
I like, I don't know, I loveham radio, no matter what, you
know, and I I eventually willget to your level, but I'm
coming back, I know I get it.
You know there's always a blackhole.

(03:07:46):
You will forever fall in andnever come out, you'll stop
going outside.

Speaker 6 (03:07:52):
Outdoor videos disappear, don't do it okay.

Speaker 1 (03:07:56):
Well, the key device, but you know you're too good at
what you do well, I appreciateit and thank you for you know
you're too good at what you do.
Well, I I appreciate it andthank you for you know having
some confidence in me.
But you know, that's the nicepart about it.
Like I come from 30, I don'tknow how old, how old, how many
years you've been licensed 40years- yeah, shit, I don't know,

(03:08:19):
maybe five Okay shit.
I don't know, maybe five.
Okay, so you're five.
I've been licensed 30 years, 20years of that I've probably
taken a hiatus.
Stories of family, career, allthat stuff.
But from the point of gettingback in and covid, prior to that
, the, the understanding of thestuff that you know today and
having the internet and beingable to do all of the you know,

(03:08:42):
how could you ever catch up tothe speed that we can now
without like 3d modelingsoftware?
yeah, totally.
I mean like I, I can get myhead around the 3d modeling
stuff pretty well and an maa isis pretty relatively easy to
understand, right, but 20 yearsago, right, yeah yeah, like 20
years ago.

Speaker 6 (03:08:59):
Good, nice, sexy drawings out of a book.

Speaker 1 (03:09:02):
But yeah, or graph paper and a nice long, uh you
know uh abacus to do thecalculations with.
But yeah, those guys when theydid those antennas, like I was
always blown away and amazed butnever really understood the
underlying like oh, why doesthat intended?
Why does that beam do this?
You know it's specific thing, why is it?

Speaker 6 (03:09:20):
kind of felt like they were the gatekeepers, right
like yeah, what is it?

Speaker 1 (03:09:23):
oh man, tell me totally, totally like what the
secret is no, they madementoring this, this like old
troll of the bridge kind ofthing, and you shall not pass I
want to show you my firstantenna and then we can get off
the stream.

Speaker 6 (03:09:42):
You ready?

Speaker 1 (03:09:43):
sure fire away what?
Oh okay, I bet that, yeah, that's the old, uh three-legged,
uh, you know, uh, two meterantenna, right no, it's a, it's
a, it's a center feed for adipole.

Speaker 6 (03:09:58):
Oh, but I've gone out of my way and I've made, with
some paracord, I've made ahanger, a little loop, okay, you
know, out of two holes, andthen the other two holes are
strain relief for the.

Speaker 1 (03:10:10):
Oh, all right, I see where you Okay, got it.
I thought those were the legsof like a two meter antenna.
Got it, yeah.

Speaker 6 (03:10:15):
And then I like brass .
I like to be kind of kind offancy, but I have my strain.
Relief is more paracord, that'scrimped, but they also act as
my my, you know anyway, um, butyeah, so you can.
You can pull on this thing ashard as you want, and it's not
going to pull the wire.
We're going to snap right, yeah, yeah.
And then nice design.

Speaker 1 (03:10:35):
Yeah, made this for you know a couple of dollars you
could say probably less thanthat, a couple of cents at that
point, paracord's pretty cheap,just a hanger.

Speaker 6 (03:10:44):
Just a hanger and two points for you, isn't that?
Isn't that like?

Speaker 1 (03:10:48):
10 gauge like house wiring, the likes of it not
house wiring.

Speaker 6 (03:10:52):
It's stranded.
Is it stranded okay?

Speaker 1 (03:10:54):
all right step up it's also ptfe dude, that's
awesome.

Speaker 6 (03:11:02):
I'm sorry, I love guys like you, I mean I just
wanted to break the ice, showingyou here.
I could, probably should haveshowed you like this would have
been better, but I just wantedto break.
I just wanted to break the iceand show that you know, hey, my
first antenna was a dipole Ibelieve it, you had to start
somewhere.
This wasn't my first antenna, this is just a remake I did so I
could show it on camera.

Speaker 1 (03:11:20):
It looked way worse I'm sure the first one probably
is something you'd not want toshow on I was also the first
time I got an rf burn I have notyet knock on wood so very first
day I had an antenna whoa I itwas drilled home very early on
in my ham career that I do notwant to mix antennas and

(03:11:41):
transmitters at the same time, especially when both of them are
active and no matter how many.
You know ham, older hams arelike you know, do not touch this
, do not touch this.
So it's sort of like the old,you know, don't put your finger
on a hot stove, kind of thing.

Speaker 6 (03:11:52):
So I, you know, I always learned that early if
you're still if you're still mybuddy around christmas time, you
might get one of these ziggyhandmade uh, christmas ornaments
.

Speaker 1 (03:12:02):
Oh, dude, I love that stuff I you got me as a buddy I
for the longest time.
I used to like and I stoppeddoing it for a while.
I used to buy like small littlepcb, like christmas tree led
kits that you'd assemble viasoldering kind of kits very
early on, like 20 years ago.
Those are fun to do because itwas like.
You know, people would be like,oh, you soldered that.

(03:12:23):
I'm like, yeah, it runs off anine volt, big deal.
But they're like, oh, it'spretty cool.
So you know, I get it.
That stuff is awesome.
I would love to put that on mytree.
My wife maybe.
On the other hand maybe not,but I'll hang it in the office I
could use some red and greenwire.
I could paint the toroid whitedude, yeah, you got something
going there with you with youryou know handy wiring.

(03:12:44):
Uh, you know making that toroid.
You could probably even, likeyou know, make it color-coded
like red or get a candy striped.

Speaker 6 (03:12:49):
Uh, you know, uh, filament wire I, uh, I just ran
out of my favorite wire.
I'm down, I'm down to my uh,what I call peasant wire at the
moment, really expensive.
You know, it's all expensive.
I go through that stuff likeyou wouldn't believe man.

Speaker 1 (03:13:07):
Yeah, very cool all right, well, let's wrap this
stuff up, but, dude, it wasawesome.
You know, um, this is our firstinteraction I I, you know we
haven't met before, so Iappreciate, uh, you know, you
sharing some wisdom and droppingsome knowledge on me, because,
uh, I'm always uh interested inlearning and, and I'm sure we'll
, uh we'll, hook up in uh toadsa lot more now that I know I can
, uh, you know, ping you oncertain things.

Speaker 6 (03:13:29):
Yeah, I'm always there for you, man, just hit me
up, all right, cool man him, butuh he didn't want to hear it
again yeah, probably, yeah, Idon't know.

Speaker 1 (03:13:42):
He's pretty good about, like you know, absorbing
that stuff, so awesome, allright.
Well, let's wrap things up here, guys, I appreciate everybody.
Uh, you know, w5ipa, jeff,ks0jd and rabbit ham, all you
guys appreciate, uh, thanks forentering, um and uh, winning
those things, uh, the gifts myguess my brain is fried at 12

(03:14:02):
o'clock, but all good.
So, yeah, and all those thatare left in the chat, the 11,
