Feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or like your business is running you instead of the other way around? This episode is your reset button. If you’ve been stuck in hustle mode, trying to do everything yourself, or wondering if burnout is just “part of it,” it’s time to pause and realign.

Because building a business shouldn’t cost you your peace. It should support your life, not consume it.

Inside this episode, I’ll walk you through the seven key shifts that helped me and my clients move out of burnout and into sustainable growth rooted in alignment, clarity, and flow. We’re not just talking self-care here…we’re talking systems, energy management, and building a business that works with your nervous system, not against it.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • Why being busy is not the same as being productive (and how to spot the difference)

  • The simple organization system I use to reclaim energy and create space for manifestation

  • How to know if you're stuck in motion instead of true momentum

  • Why consuming less content can help you grow faster

  • What it means to build a business that matches your energy, not your ego

  • The truth about your business not being your whole life

  • How to release tasks, offers, or platforms that no longer serve you

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the Live Life Unapologetically
podcast.
I am Shannon Kay and todaywe're going to talk about
something that's probably reallygoing to hit hard for some
solopreneurs and it's probablysomething that you don't want to
admit about the business youstarted because of the passion
you have for your business.
But the thing that we're goingto look at is burnout, and I'm
not talking about just feelingtired or maybe needing a day off

(00:22):
.
I'm talking about that full-on,nothing left in the tank.
Why am I even doing thisburnout?
And I'm not going to sit hereand hand you a checklist of
self-care ideas, because, as awoman running a business,
burnout isn't just a personalissue, it is a growth issue and,

(00:43):
honestly, when we talk aboutself-care, that is why, when I'm
working with women, we work onthe lifestyle first and then we
put the business into it,because self-care, in my opinion
, in my beliefs, is notsomething that goes on the back
burner, that you find time for.
But what if you've gotten to aplace in your business where you
are in burnout and you reallyjust don't know what to do or

(01:03):
where?
To a place in your businesswhere you are in burnout and you
really just don't know what todo or where to go.
You know, you started thisthing because you love it, but
you're just thinking why am Ieven doing this?
And that's because you're notjust the CEO, you're the sales
team, the marketing department, your customer service, you're
the visionary, the strategist, you're the creative director.

(01:24):
And so when burnout does startto creep in, because of
everything that you're holdingin your business, your growth
slows, it could stall.
And even if it keeps going alittle bit because I do talk
about this you can hustle, buteventually you're going to crash
.
So even if you're hustling tothe point where you're making
gains, crash is inevitablebecause your ideas start to get

(01:47):
foggy, your momentum fades andyour ability to sell and show up
and lead is going to disappear.
According to the APA, burnoutleads to lower productivity,
detachment and physical andemotional exhaustion For
business owners.
That doesn't just cost you time, it costs you your growth.
So you've been trying to scaleyour business, but you're

(02:09):
constantly overwhelmed, you'rescattered or you're just
freaking over it.
And this episode is going to beyour reset, to reset to a
baseline where you can then moveforward and your business isn't
consuming your life, it issupporting your life.
The first thing I want to talkabout is the fact that busy is
not productive.

(02:29):
Busy is not productive.
Busy is not productive.
I can't say that enough.
Busy is just freaking loud.
If you're from my generationespecially, and probably the
generation before that, youglamorize being busy because
we've been taught that, becausethe calendar is packed, it means
we're making progress, it meanswe're important, it means we're

(02:49):
successful.
But busy doesn't always equalmoney and busy doesn't always
equal success.
Busy can just be noisy, like Isaid before, just loud.
Burnout starts when you'reconstantly doing without ever
checking if those actionsactually matter.
So instead of asking, am Idoing enough?

(03:12):
You know I have a whole daywhere there's nothing to do.
Oh my gosh, I must be failing, because busy means something,
busy doesn't mean anything.
That's a limiting belief.
I have multiple days on my weekthat aren't busy.
They're chill, and I designedit that way because that's how I
wanted my life to be.
Honestly, even if ourbusinesses get to a point of
success where we can clear thecalendar because we think busy

(03:35):
is productive and busy issuccessful, even though we
dreamed of only working fourhours a day, four days a week,
even when you get there, youfeel like this guilt, like you
should be doing more.
It's like this bad loop thatwe're stuck in, instead of
thinking are you doing enough?
Because if you're making money,if you're showing up, that's
enough, like you don't have tobe on every hour of every day.

(03:57):
Just ask yourself are youractions aligned with what you're
trying to create?
Are my actions aligned withwhat I'm trying to create?
Because alignment and alignedaction, equal clarity, momentum
and manifestation.
Busy work, being busy for thesake of being busy, is all about

(04:17):
depletion, resentment and chaos.
The second thing that you cando is to get organized, because
your energy deserves systems.
The second thing that you cando is to get organized because
your energy deserves systems.
I am all about organization.
I teach manifestation andorganization so that you don't
have burnout, so you can havethat life you actually want and
the money you actually want.

(04:37):
And to manifest, to have roomto let in, there needs to be
space.
Well, how do I get space?
I get organized.
You don't need more hours in aday, you just need a system.
Burnout happens when your brainis cluttered, when your schedule
is reactive and when every taskfeels like it's urgent.
You have to do it right now.
Oh, my gosh, I have to postthis right now or I'm going to

(05:00):
miss something.
That's reactiveness, that isnot alignment.
You cannot manifest anythingfrom that state.
That's survival energy.
That is not creation energy.
But when you're organized, youfree up energy.
When your energy is clear, yourmanifestations move faster
period For me.

(05:21):
I use one Google Sheet and oneGoogle Doc every single week for
all my Pinterest, for all mysocial media, for my blog, for
my podcast.
Like it all is in one place, easy to find.
I have it organized in asystematic way to get me through
my obligation tasks, which arethose back end to do things, so

(05:41):
that I can then flow into thecreation, which is the actual
writing of the blog and thedelivering the podcast to you
and showing up how I want toshow up and serving how I want
to serve and creating what Iwant to create.
As far as products, get yourbusiness organized, not in a way
to make it pretty, in a waythat makes you feel powerful, so

(06:02):
you're not running on fumes.
The way I have my systems.
Everything's done by Tuesday, monday, tuesday everything is
done.
It is a system that I gothrough.
It has a step-by-step clearpath and it leaves tons of room
for creativeness.
I'm not just doing tasks right,I'm doing my daily CEO ritual,

(06:23):
I'm doing my weekly intentionsetting.
I'm making space and room formanifesting, for letting go, for
being in receive mode insteadof always output.
So having systems gives youthat space.
The third thing is don't confusemotion with momentum, because
that kills progress.
Every time.

(06:43):
If you're checking off tasks,if you're updating your website,
if you're tweaking your salespage, but you're not seeing
results, that's because you'rein motion, not momentum.
Motion is just activity.
It's doing things for the sakeof doing them.
Momentum is intentional forwardmovement.
One leads to burnout, the otherleads to income.

(07:07):
So if you're working constantlyand you're still questioning,
well, why isn't this working?
This is why Start tracking whatis actually creating traction
and then give your alignedaction to that.
Traction can look likeconversions, offers, shared
energy, protected systems thatare cleaned up.

(07:28):
That is momentum Not moremotion, but momentum.
And I've worked with a lot ofpeople who say, well, I don't
know, because nothing's working.
I promise you there are thingsin your business that are
working.
I have the manifest momentum, which is that daily CEO ritual,
and it proves to you what isworking.
It shows you what is workingand then you do more of that

(07:50):
because you look for what isworking, because we're really
taught to look for what's notworking, to improve.
Everything that we have talksabout.
This is how you improve onsocial media.
This is how you do improve yourconversions, and we'll talk a
little bit about that in thenext one.
But that's why I createdManifest Momentum, because it
clears the clutter.
It takes you like less thanfive minutes a day.

(08:11):
I'm gonna put it in the shownotes.
Please make sure to get it.
It is life-changing.
I had one client use it and shesaid after seven days she
already saw the difference.
It's a 30-day challenge.
So grab that so that you cansee where your momentum is and
then you can take stuff that'sjust motion and get it out of
the way.
And that really takes me intonumber four, which is to create

(08:34):
more than you consume, becauseyou were not meant to spend your
whole day watching whateveryone else is doing.
Right, burnout gets amplifiedwhen your energy is scattered
between 10 voices, 5 strategiesand content that does not
reflect your values.
Too much input is going to killyour clarity.

(08:55):
So if you're looking to grow onsocial media, stop scanning and
listening to everybody whotells you do this, do that, do
the other thing, because nowyou're consuming it and you
don't even know which way to go,or you're trying to figure out
a way to implement everything.
For me, I believe in Jenna andMMM Magic Marketing Machine.

(09:16):
It tells you how to grow yourbusiness and get clients from
Instagram, but let me tell youit does more than just Instagram
, like her system and her methodgoes to every platform.
I use it on every platform andI grow on every platform.
I highly recommend her.
When I sought her out, I wasevery platform and I grow on
every platform.
I highly recommend her.
When I sought her out, I wasseeing her and I was seeing

(09:36):
everybody else and I was likeyou know what, I'm going to hone
in on one person and I'm goingto hone in on Jenna.
So of course, I watched her andthen I got MMM and it was a
game changer.
Mmm is so powerful that Idecided to ditch an old
Instagram account that I hadreally bad mindset around, like
the whole account itself.

(09:56):
My mindset just wasn't thereand I started a new account.
So if you started following meon my new account, you'll see
that I don't have.
I think I have 41 followers orsomething.
I get more from my 41 followersthan I did from my 3000
followers using her system, butI cut out all the other voices,
right?
I didn't have five differentsocial media strategies.

(10:17):
I honed in on hers and I'mgoing to put a link for that in
the show notes as well, becauseif you're like girl, I need to
grow and I have to consume.
Consume her Because you are acreator, you're a visionary, you
are a leader, and if you'respending more time scrolling
than speaking your truth, yourbusiness is going to feel heavy.
Your energy was designed tobuild, not binge, so create

(10:41):
first and consume later, andthat's how you're going to stay
connected to your magic.
The fifth one is to build abusiness that matches your
energy and not your ego.
The fifth one is to build abusiness that matches your
energy and not your ego, becauseone of the biggest burnout
triggers is trying to scale likesomeone you are not If you're
doing launches that drain youbecause you follow a certain

(11:02):
method, or if you're doingoffers that don't excite you, if
your content strategies don'tfit your rhythm once again, why
I love MMM?
Because you make it fit yourrhythm all of those things can
trigger burnout.
If you have an offer that youdon't like but you're selling it
because it's making you money,it's doing you more harm than
good because you're showing upfor something that doesn't feel

(11:24):
good and eventually that's goingto lead to burnout.
Why?
Because then you have thatresentment right towards what
you're doing.
You didn't start this to be aclone marketing bro.
You started this to lead inyour own way.
When you build a business thatworks with your energy instead

(11:45):
of against it, everything flowsfaster, sales feel easier,
visibility feels natural,Creation doesn't feel like a
chore.
So stop following templatesthat require you to abandon
yourself and you start buildingsystems that offer and reflect
your unique energy flow.
And I'm going to put this righthere no matter what system you
get whether it's Magic MarketingMachine with Jenna, which is

(12:09):
one of my favorites, if you geta system for, like me, I give my
clients systems to helporganize them on the back end so
that they only have to use oneGoogle Sheet and one Google Doc
things of that nature you takepeople's systems and you make
them your own for your flow.
Like I always tell my clients, this is just like a base
starting point, but I need youto put your own magic on there

(12:30):
to make it work for you.
Same thing with Magic MarketingMachine.
I took it, I implement it, butI do it in a way that works with
my organizational system.
Right, I put it within mysystem.
That works for me and my energy.
But I use the core stuff.
So it's okay to get systems,it's okay to hire coaches, it's

(12:52):
okay to get methods.
I think the problem comes inwhen you try to mimic that
method and you imitate it to a T, to how the people talk, to
what they say, to their calendar, and it doesn't fit you.
It doesn't mean it's not good,it means they created a method
that fits their energy, like mymethod fits my energy.

(13:12):
I worked with somebody one timeand she said just organize how
you do.
You're amazing.
I want your exact organizationand I told her I'll do that for
you.
But I'm going to need you totake it and think about what is
working for you, what isn'tworking for you and how to
adjust it so that it feels goodto you.
Because no matter what you have, if it's not something unique

(13:34):
to your energetic flow, it's notgoing to work for you like it
worked for somebody else.
Number six is that your businessisn't your entire life, so you
need to stop making it one.
At the beginning of this, Isaid that when I work with
people, we build the lifestylethat we want first, and the
business fits into that.
The business is a supportsystem for the lifestyle, and

(13:56):
this one should hit you, becausewe have really been taught that
if we are not obsessed with ourwork, then we're not committed
to it.
If we're not obsessed with ourwork, then we are not all in.
But the truth is is that yourbusiness should not take up
every corner of your mind, because when it does, your
nervous system never shuts offand when that happens, you're

(14:17):
not manifesting, you're managing, you're in control mode, not
creative mode, and your businessis a part of your life.
It is not your whole life.
I know that you decided to makeyour own business and do your
own thing because you were tiredof your life being controlled
by work by your nine to five.

(14:37):
I'm sure there were otherreasons that went into it, but
probably nine out of 10 peopleI've met that's the reason.
Heck, yeah, they want to makemoney and they don't want to
have a pay ceiling, but theyalso want more control over
their day-to-day life, what theydo and when they do it, but
then if we go in and make ourbusiness our entire life, it

(14:58):
defeats the whole purpose.
You're allowed to log off.
You're allowed to rest.
You're allowed to find joyoutside of your brand, because
you're a multifaceted humanbeing.
You're more than just yourbrand.
You actually need to, becausethe more you prioritize living,
the more your business is goingto grow.
The last one number seven is tocut what doesn't convert or

(15:20):
light you up.
The last one number seven is tocut what doesn't convert or
light you up.
Get ruthless.
If you're doing things you hateor showing up on platforms that
drain you, or if you're sellingoffers you resent, you're not
scaling, you're surviving.
That's not scaling, that'ssurviving.
If you don't like being onthreads, don't be on there.
If you don't like being onYouTube, don't be on there.

(15:46):
If you do, then do that.
What you feel the best about iswhat you're going to give the
best energy to.
You're going to feel morealigned and you're going to
manifest more.
In that way, your body knows, your energy knows and your
audience can feel it.
So if it doesn't convert, if itdoesn't light you up and if it
doesn't align, it goes.
It's fine for it to go.

(16:08):
There are many different thingsthat I thought about when I
first started doing offers and Iwas like, yeah, I want to do X,
y, z, because that's whatpeople said was the industry
standard and what I should do.
And then I was like I don'treally like that and my energy
that was in my energy.
I could feel it.
I know my audience could feelit Didn't matter if it was
making me money, who cares ifit's gross feeling.

(16:32):
Once again, why build a businessthat you don't like?
Your business should serve youas much as you serve others.
You don't have to suffer toserve.
You don't need to do what youshould.
You need to do what'ssustainable.
That's how you grow withoutcollapsing under the weight.
Burnout is not a phase that youpush through.

(16:54):
It is a red flag that yourbusiness model, your energies
and or your systems are out ofalignment.
You do not have to burn it alldown, so to speak.
You just need to rebuild yourbusiness in a way that honors
your energy and your vision.
So what I really want you to dotoday to start getting back in

(17:14):
alignment is to grab theManifest Momentum Tracker.
It's going to help you stay inthat momentum.
It's going to help you to stayin an embodied and aligned flow.
There's six touch points inthere for acting as if and you
act as if so that you can embodythe business that you want,
that grows with you and that'ssustainable.

(17:36):
And it really helps you tobecome aware of what is just
motion and what is momentum.
So, once again, that is in theshow notes.
If you're like I don't know ifI'm ready for all that, you can
always grab the Manifest shemagazine.
It is a free monthlysubscription subscriber only
subscription and it has thingsabout manifestation and
organization and differentchallenges you can do.
I'll put that in the show notesand I'm going to put magic

(17:57):
marketing in the show notesbecause if you're so stressed
out about growing your business, because you need it to convert,
that's what you need to get, soI'm going to put that as well.
So pick one of those thingsthat's not adding to your plate.
It's actually going to help youto make your momentum to move
where you're trying to go.
It's three different thingsthat you can pick from to help

(18:18):
lead you out of that burnout andinto an aligned business that
supports your life and itdoesn't take over your life,
that way that you can scale andflow, you can lead with clarity
and you can grow without burningout.
I will chat with you next week.
