Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome back to the
Live Life Unapologetically
podcast.
I'm Shannon Kay and today weare going to get into hands down
what I believe is one of themost powerful yet also one of
the most misunderstood tools inmanifestation for business
growth, and that's the conceptof acting as if.
This is not a trend, though itseems trendy lately.
(00:21):
This isn't about beingdelusional or doing cartwheels
in your living room andpretending you're already rich.
It's truly about embodiment.
Acting as if, it's aboutalignment.
It is about showing up like theversion of you who already has
what she wants and doing it in away that feels real and not
(00:41):
forced, which is really wherethe confusion comes in with this
powerful tool and why peopletry it and they're like that
didn't work, that felt weird, Idon't like it.
Then they blow it off and theydon't use it anymore.
So today we're going to goreally into three components of
how to act as if in yourbusiness and we're going to
(01:03):
clear up some confusion alongthe way about this.
Things that happen that areentirely not what acting as if
is.
So grab your favorite drink, cozy up and let's get started.
The first thing that we're goingto talk about and really get
out of the way, before we getinto the components of acting as
if, is the difference betweenacting as if and faking it till
(01:26):
you make it?
Because a lot of times weconfuse the two and we think,
well, I'm just going to fake it,I'm just going to pretend.
If you've been trying to forcethat approach and feeling like a
fraud, let me validate you.
It's not that you're a fraud,it's the method, it's the
thinking, because fake it tillyou make it is rooted in
performance.
This idea of faking it tellsyou to pretend to act like
(01:51):
something you're not.
This is about taking actionthat you think you should.
There's that word should again, all these shoulds that we do in
business or how we think weshould show up, how a successful
woman should look, based onoutside chatter instead of
internal alignment, not tomention the sheer label of fake
(02:13):
it till you make it means thatyou're saying I am fake, so at a
subconscious level, you'regoing to believe it.
I'm fake at this.
I'm a fraud.
Fake is fraud, right?
So you wonder why you feel thatway.
Well, you labeled it that wayand now your subconscious is
latching onto that you may endup doing some of the right
(02:34):
actions, even if you're using itin this context, but underneath
it, you're going to bereinforcing that you're not
there yet, because you havereinforced that you're playing a
role that you're not reallythat person, because you're
faking it.
In simple terms, if you approachacting as if, like fake it till
(02:57):
you make it, it's pretending orperforming, which leads to
imposter syndrome, it leads toself-doubt, it leads to
emotional exhaustion.
Because you're faking, you'redoing once again what you think
you should do, what that shouldlook like, instead of doing it
(03:17):
from a place of alignment.
How is that even different thanacting as if?
Because a lot of people think, well, if I'm acting as if it's
already happened, but it hasn'thappened, then I am pretending
and then I am performing andwe're going to get into that.
Because acting as if is notpretending, it is embodying, it
(03:39):
is fully being in that versionof yourself.
It is choosing to believe, tofeel and act from the place of
the version of you who alreadyhas what she wants.
It's not let me act like I'mrich, so I'll become rich.
It's let me feel into thisversion of me who knows that she
(03:59):
is supported and capable andmagnetic, and I'm going to align
my thoughts and my emotions andmy actions with her.
That subtle difference iseverything.
It is everything.
Your business doesn't just growfrom strategy, it grows from
identity.
See, if you're faking it tillyou make it and you're using
(04:21):
someone else's strategy verbatimand trying to copy them and
imitate them, and imitate thestrategy, that is faking it,
because that is not you.
You see, you can use somebodyelse's strategy, but then you
have to embody it into youridentity to match who you are.
I talk about this a lot in myblog and sometimes here, but I
(04:44):
use Magic Marketing Machine formy social media strategy, but I
am not Jenna.
I love Jenna, but I don't goand make the reels for Instagram
or my TikTok videos trying tobe Jenna, trying to be like
Jenna, and that's her.
That's who she is.
(05:04):
If I tried to say, okay, I'mgoing to use her strategy and
I'm going to implement it justlike she does, which she doesn't
teach, that y'all I'm tellingyou.
She doesn't teach that.
She gives you the strategy, butshe says, hey, you can steal
this from me.
Like, isn't that great thatsomebody's like hey, steal this
real idea, steal this B-rollidea.
Like hands it to you, because Iknow when we're first starting
(05:25):
with strategies we do need somehand-holding, but a lot of
people take strategies ingeneral and they try to mimic it
exactly like the other persondoes it, so that that is faking
it till you make it.
That is pretending, that isperforming.
You take your strategy inbusiness but it becomes powerful
when you put in your identity, when you adjust it to match you.
(05:48):
So I use her strategy andthere's things that I do that
aren't quite what she teaches, but it fits me and it works for
me, but it has the same premise.
So, yes, I use it, but it'sadaptable to my personality and
who I am.
If you're constantly trying tobe like somebody else and that's
(06:09):
where the shoulds go well, thisis going to work.
If I do it exactly like, thenthat's faking and that's why it
feels icky.
But when you're acting as ifand you're embodying, then your
business is going to growbecause you have your strategy.
But your strategy then fuseswith your identity, your
(06:31):
strategy, but your strategy thenfuses with your identity.
Now maybe you're like, yeah, shannon, but this identity I
have isn't necessarily theidentity I want to bring in.
So I do want to act as if, sothat I can expand and grow into
the business woman I want to be.
That's exactly the power ofacting as if, because if you're
constantly thinking about yourpast self, if you're reacting
from fear, if you're makingdecisions based on who you used
(06:52):
to be, then your results aregoing to match that version of
you.
You're here and you'relistening because you're like I
want the version of me to showup.
I want the business growthversion.
You know how I use my timeversion.
I want that person, when youact as if, you're already that
next level version.
You're already that You're notwaiting for outside
(07:14):
circumstances.
You're not waiting for it toreflect in your 3D the woman who
knows her work is valuable, whois trusting her timing, who
creates and sells withconfidence.
That's when your businessexpands.
Because you're expanding.
The expansion comes insidefirst, and acting as if trains
your brain, your nervous system, your behavior to normalize
(07:36):
success before the externalproof shows up in the 3D realm.
That's really whatmanifestation is.
It is your inner world leadingthe outer world.
That is manifestation.
It is creating from within, butit isn't an on-off switch and
it isn't a one-and-done mindsethack.
It's a practice.
(07:57):
Acting as if is a practice A lotof times, I think.
With manifestation.
We think I'm going to scriptabout it one time or say this
affirmation you know justwilly-nilly and it's a hack.
Right, it's a tip, it's a trick, it's a hack, it's a.
Get there quick.
Everything in manifestation isa practice, especially acting as
(08:19):
if it is something that youbuild up to, because you're not
going to wake up one day and sayan affirmation and suddenly act
like a million-dollar person.
You know 24-7.
That's just not how it works.
Acting as if is truly adeveloped habit Because,
honestly, you're acting as if nomatter what.
You're either acting as if thecurrent version of you or you're
(08:41):
acting as if the future versionof you, how you show up in the
day, it's really habit.
And acting as if is a developedhabit, it is a skill, it is a
muscle.
And acting as if is a developedhabit, it is a skill, it is a
muscle and, like any muscle, ittakes time to build.
You didn't get into thisversion of yourself overnight.
You built your way there, andthe same thing happens with
acting as if to a new versionthat you desire more than the
(09:03):
current version of yourself.
I do want to clear this up whenwe're talking about a new
version of yourself, because alot of times we think that we're
broken in our current state.
So before we even go further, Iwant to free you from that,
because when I say the newversion of you and acting like
the person you want to become,it does not mean you're broken
(09:23):
and it doesn't mean you needfixing.
You are evolving.
You're not escaping.
Like let's think about this asa businesswoman perspective you
haven't always been abusinesswoman.
So the version of yourselfwhere you are now, that might
have been a stay-at-home mom, that may have been somebody who
worked in corporate, that mayhave been somebody who worked in
some kind of service industry, whatever that is, but it doesn't
(09:47):
mean you're broken.
You're going into a new realmin a new way.
Or maybe you're taking yourbusiness to a new level because
your nervous system says I'mready for something new.
So you're not broken.
When we're talking about actingas if this new person, if I say
you're acting as if, like yougot here, acting as if the
person you are now and you wantto change it, and that's fine.
(10:09):
So let's go and act as if a newperson and build that person up
.
That just means you're evolving.
You're not escaping.
Your growth is not a rejectionof who you are.
It is an expansion.
Curiosity to do something new isnot a criticism.
You're allowed to want morewithout hating where you are.
(10:29):
You don't have to say, oh mygosh, I can't stand her, so I am
going to fix her because Idon't like who I am.
You can love who you are andstill want to go and try new
things or want more things, without hating who you are.
You're not broken.
You're brilliant.
You're just birthing the nextchapter Once again.
Maybe you started out as aworker or stay-at-home mom or
(10:52):
something else and now you'regoing into business.
It's just a new chapter.
So you need to act as if thatchapter and you can love
yourself and you can still wantchange.
Once again, this is not aboutfixing.
It is truly about unfoldinginto that next version, that
next chapter in your life, thatnew season of your life.
(11:14):
It doesn't mean that the oldseason, that there was something
wrong with the old season or itwas bad.
I am going into a new season ofmy life and it's going to be
different and so I have to bedifferent and that's okay.
Like all of my kids all six ofthem the last one is graduating
high school next week and, withthat in mind, there may or may
(11:34):
not be a podcast next weekbecause we're gonna be
celebrating him.
But it's a new season of mylife, so I will be different.
We move through seasons of lifeand things change, so it is
gonna be different.
And everything I've done up tothis point when it comes to that
part of myself was, you know, aresponsible mom who was
(11:58):
responsible for my kids day today and, you know, making sure
they were getting up for schooland staying on about their
grades and all of that stuff.
But that season is going intosomething different and so I am
going to be different.
It doesn't mean I was broken inthat season.
It doesn't mean there wasanything wrong with me in that
season.
It just means that life isevolving.
So I want you to know that lifeevolves and you can evolve with
(12:19):
it.
And it doesn't mean anythingwas wrong with the past version
of you, the current version ofyou, or that the future version
of you is the best thing ever.
Just means it's a differentseason.
Now, once again, acting as if itis a skill, it is a muscle it
takes time to build, like Idon't think it's going to take
time for me to build, gettingout of the habit of running
(12:42):
behind my kids about things intheir life.
That was my responsibility, butit's now their responsibility
as adults.
Of course it's a habit.
So new me has to build a newhabit, and that's the same in
business.
So you might start with just 10minutes a day where you're
really feeling that new versionof yourself, where you think
like her and speak like her andact like her, and then the next
(13:03):
day maybe it's 12 minutes, thenit may be 20 minutes, but over
time you're going to hold thatstate longer, you return to her
faster and eventually that iswho you become, not just who you
were trying to be, but that'sjust who you are.
When I first started a businessit wasn't natural.
I had to build into it.
Same for you, right?
(13:24):
Like, think about things inyour life that you started to do
that weren't so natural and youcould hold them and it made
sense for a second.
But then you maybe doubted alittle bit or you were a little
bit scared.
You weren't sure.
That's normal, it's a habit.
You just build it up and itbecomes just who you are, and
that is what acting as if does,as a practice.
That's how you build thatmuscle or skill.
(13:46):
You lock into who you want tobe and how you show up and you
practice.
Give yourself that permissionto practice.
You are not doing it wrongbecause you can't hold the
embodiment all day.
You're doing it right bystarting.
Now let's get into the threecore components of how to
actually act as if in yourbusiness, in a way that works,
(14:09):
in a way that you can practiceand build it up.
The first one is thoughts thatmatch your future.
I know you've heard about whatyou think is what you attract,
and it's true.
So the first step is thinkinglike the version of you who
already has what she wants.
I want to make this very, very, very clear that I'm not talking
toxic positivity and I'm nottalking about ignoring your
(14:32):
current reality.
I'm talking about choosingthoughts that support your
expansion instead of reinforcingyour limits.
So you start with awareness.
What does your self-talk soundlike right now?
Are you thinking things like noone is buying?
I'm not good at selling.
It's so hard to stand out, andwe have been taught that in
(14:54):
business.
I talk about that a lot, abouthow we focus so much on what
we're doing wrong in businessbecause we're trying to grow
right.
So if we want to grow, we gotto fix what's not working,
instead of maybe looking atwhat's going right and also
having your next level selfrepeat that.
Is she repeating it?
Probably not.
Are you repeating?
(15:15):
My audience is growing everyday.
My offer is valuable.
I'm building momentum.
I notice it every day and mymanifest momentum ritual that's
the key part, like that's whatspurred me to make that ritual
was to notice what was workinginstead of what isn't working,
because we attract what we focuson.
So if we focus on what isalready working, we attract more
(15:36):
of it.
And those thoughts are notignoring your reality, they're
reshaping it.
They are focusing you on whatis working and that self-talk
and is helping you to switch theself-talk into the version of
yourself that has thatconfidence, because you're
reinforcing what is going right.
The second component is emotionsthat align with the version of
(15:58):
you you're becoming, becauseemotions are our vibrational
magnet in manifesting.
So a lot of people say like, bemagnetic and have the
vibrations and attract it to you.
What is that?
That is your emotions.
That vibration is the emotions, the feeling.
If you're thinking elevatedthoughts but feeling anxious or
depressed or stuck.
(16:19):
You're not fully acting as if.
So, we got the thoughts down, but now we have to pair it with
the emotion, and that doesn'tmean that you have to force
yourself once again into toxicpositivity all day.
It means that you practicefeeling the emotions your future
self would feel.
Would she feel confident?
(16:39):
Would she feel supported?
Would she feel calm?
Tune into those emotions onpurpose.
You can use music orvisualization, journaling,
whatever works for you to havethat Like.
I'm very much a meditativeperson and the more I can quiet,
the more I can pull thoseemotions.
Some people are very musicaland, like my husband, gets so
(17:01):
hyped up in music and he pullsemotions from music.
So do what works for you to beable to pull those emotions that
match the thought.
This is why rituals like theManifest Momentum Ritual are
powerful, because within it, notonly did I say wait, I need to
focus on what's working.
So that was the initial reasonI created the ritual.
(17:23):
But I understand manifestationand so I knew I had to pull that
emotion.
So within it there's astructure to activate the
feelings how do I want to feeltoday, how do I want to embody
this today?
And bringing that to yourconscious mind.
Then there's an action thatsays, like, how can I get there
every single day?
Like, done for you, plug andplay, because this is a practice
(17:46):
.
Right, your emotions don't justhave to be reactions.
Your emotions can beinstructions to your body and
your energy field.
The third component is actionsthat reflect your future.
This is where it all comestogether, right, like?
I have my thoughts, I know howI want to feel and I'm embodying
that feeling.
Like I'm feeling the feels.
I brought that feeling up tothe surface.
(18:07):
I can really feel it, you haveit.
But now it's time to take anaction from that place.
I think that's a big part ofmanifestation that a lot of
people leave out, because wethink if I just think the right
things, everything will fallinto place.
I just have to think it.
I just have to think it.
You have to think it, feel itand then take action from that
place.
That doesn't mean hustling, that does not mean forcing, that
(18:30):
does not mean showing up in away you think you should show up
.
It is showing up from thethought and feeling.
That is the aligned action.
It's showing up as the embodiedversion of you, not the
overwhelmed version trying toforce results.
So if your next level selfbelieved in her offer, what
(18:50):
would she do today?
Would she record the podcast?
Would she post the offer?
Would she reach out to someone?
Would she rest?
Would she unplug and trust?
What would she do In thatthought and in that feeling,
what is the natural action thatcomes from it?
Really, that is where we gettripped up, because you start
(19:11):
taking action on, once again, what you think you should or
what someone else said works, but if it doesn't match your
line energy, then it backfiresand it feels heavy and it causes
resistance which slows down thegrowth.
But you're trying to grow.
So when you're acting as if theaction is going to feel
grounded Now I want to be clearon this too it may stretch you
(19:33):
because you're going out of yourcomfort zone, but it doesn't
betray you and that's thedifference.
So just to recap all that we'vetalked about today, because I'm
so excited for you to startusing this tool to grow your
business Acting as if is not aperformance, it is not
pretending and it is notskipping steps.
(19:56):
It is full body, full energy, practice of thinking, feeling
and acting like the version ofyou who is already in the
business growth, the overflow, what it is you're looking for in
your business.
It is also not instant.
It is gradual.
It can be messy Because, remember, this is muscle
building.
But the more you practice thesethree components your thoughts,
(20:20):
your emotions, your actions themore natural it becomes, the
more magnetic you become, themore your business shifts,
because you have shifted.
Here's what I want you to doPractice this every single day
and to do get my manifestmomentum ritual, because it's
going to walk you through dailyto help you act as if and to
(20:43):
stay consistent with it.
Remember, you may only be ableto hold it for 10 minutes, but
if you're consistent everysingle day, then you'll be able
to hold it longer and longer andthe results will come in, come
in, come in.
Now, this ritual is going toinclude all of the elements for
acting as if daily, to call inthat abundance, to call in your
(21:03):
business growth.
Remember, it's building amuscle and this ritual is a
personal trainer to help youstay on track daily.
I'm going to link it in theshow notes so you can start
acting as if today.
This is going to guide youthrough where you are now, where
you want to go and then how toembody it daily with a practice
to embody it every single day,not to mention the fact that I
(21:25):
will be showing up in your inboxonce you get this ritual, to
encourage you, to answer anyquestions and to support you,
because the life you want is notfar away.
She is already here.
You just need to meet her.
I'll chat with you next weekMaybe, maybe not, because it is
my son's graduation week.
So if I don't chat with younext week, I'll chat with you
(21:48):
the week after.
I love you, beautiful souls.
