Bungalow Realty.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning everyone.
And welcome to the next episodeof Live Your Best Life Barefoot.
I'm here with Ruth today.
Hi Mary, how are you?
I'm great.
How are you?
Really good.
Good.
So excited for our guests today.
You wanna take it away?
I do.
We have today.
We have Carrie from GriswoldHome Care, and she's gonna tell
us about what she does atGriswold Carrie.

(00:31):
Welcome.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Welcome.
Thank you.
Thank you, Mary.
Thank you Ruth thank you,Barefoot Bungalow for hosting me
today and, I'm just thrilled tobe here and t o partner with
these wonderful ladies, th ank yo u i n t h eir, in their home
buying and selling experiencesfor our clients as well as
everyone else around Bonita.
And, a l i ttle bit aboutmyself.

(00:52):
I work for Griswold Home Care.
I'm the community liaison, andwhich basically means I'm out in
the community meeting ourcommunity partners, our
physicians, our hos pitals, discharge planners, cl i ents,
anyone who needs home care, which could be, re a lly
anybody, any client, any tim eof course.
And you know, we give people thehelp they need in their homes,

(01:17):
so they can stay in their homesor if they' re need ing at so me
point in time to sell their homeand go into a se nior living
facility or a senior livingcommunity, of course these gals
are perfect for, sel l ing orbuying a new home or buying into
a community that you have to buyin.
So, you kn ow, we help discussall the care options, moving

(01:39):
options, so t h at t hey canlive in whatev er place it is
that they love and th ey wannaage i n place without, with o ut
any hurdles.
So yeah, so that's kind o f, w ed o, we're committed to helping
people, to s t ay safe and happyat home.
Carrie,

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Do you, do you only work with elderly or is it
anybody who like somebody of myage, which I am elderly, but

Speaker 3 (02:02):
It hasn't, it's

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Getting younger.
All it's getting younger everyday,

Speaker 3 (02:06):
18 and over we, our clients can be young, have had
some injury in their life, orthey were always, in a state
where they needed somebody, somehelp.
We have a client on Marco, she'sa younger gal and, l ives with
her fa mily, but needs a liv ingca regiver so that she can, l i
ve independently on her own andher own wing of her house, which

(02:26):
is beautiful.
And we provide two hour care forthose meeti ngs, say b ath s or
help, jus t getting ready in themorning or going to bed at night
as, as w ell as 24 7, live incar eg ivers.
It depends on what they need.
So we specialize in, you know, find i ng the right caregiver

(02:50):
for the right client and theclient is always in control of
their schedule.
There's no set schedule andthere's just a two hour m inim
um per day.
So we have a lot of differentoptions for them.
We provide support for all, allthe little things they need in
their home, as far as any kindof home making, we can change
the big linens on the beds, which are sometimes really hard

(03:10):
for the elderly.
Do the laundry, run and gettheir groceries, their
prescriptions, their run dotheir errands, we can provide
companionship, especially forthose clients that have memory
issues.
They need somebody with t hemall the time, you know,
reintroducing, you know thecurrent life, activities, an d a

(03:33):
nywhere to p ersonal care, youknow, bathing, dressing,
changing adult briefs, et c etera, t o those clients that are
needing a little more help, a long the way.
So kind of a little bit or alot, depending on w ha t the
client needs.
That's nice.
That

Speaker 4 (03:47):
Is nice.
I wanna revisit that communityliaison bit, because I think,
your abilities and yourknowledge and your, connections
in the community are tied up inthat title.
Tell us a little bit about whatbrought you to here

Speaker 3 (04:06):
In your career.
Sure.
Well, my background is I'm anursing home administrator by,
by license and by degree, ofcourse.
And that started a long time agowhen I was young.
And, so I've always been in thegeriatric field before it was
even popular, you know?
So I started here in Minnesotaand in Florida.

(04:31):
And then when I had children, Istayed home for a while.
And then I got back into theworkforce again when they were
older and then, and I always wasin, you know, the health field
and then we moved back and thenwe were in Florida here in
Naples, and I joined GriswoldHome Care, as their manager and

(04:51):
helped to open this office here10 years ago.
And then my husband gottransferred to Nashville.
So we lived in Nashville, the itcity for love Nashville for
yeah.
For a few years.
And, and then when we werecoming back, so he could work
remotely, I came back toGriswold.
So then I full circle I'm backback helping the seniors.

(05:12):
Yes, exactly.
Yes.
Very nice.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
Yes.
And you have so many, greatconnections in the community.
It's fun cuz we're downstairsfrom you guys.
So we get to see your coming andgoings and I'm really impressed
with the people and theconnections that you have.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Well, well thank you.
And I hope those connections andthose people can, tie in with
your, with your ability to buyand sell homes and, you know,
referring is what we do duringall the community partners, I
refer to them, they refer to meand we develop relationships so
that I can just call people andhand it over and say, they'll
take good care of you.
And that's it.

(05:49):
So, like for example, if, I havea client who needs physical
therapy, then I will refer themto the one that I know I can
say, take it and run with it andthey'll take care of you and
they'll follow through j ustlike if I knew somebody needed,
to buy or sell a home, I havewonderful gals right below me
and they'll take care of you.
And I can, you know, say, okay, this is it.

(06:12):
They'll take care of it.
And th ey'll, I'll feel greatabo ut it and th ey'll be done.
So that's kind, and my goal isto develop those relationships
that, tha t I know that I cantrust and they know they can
trust us.
That's huge.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
It makes a big difference and it makes a big
difference to the clients, youknow, putting your trust in one
person, but then there's alwaysmore that you need.
So

Speaker 3 (06:31):
That's huge.
Well, and if they need a, youknow, and like I say, because
now there's always a caregivershortage.
You can, you can sign up withtwo, three different agencies.
And so that we don't, I can besomeone's backup or they can be
our backup.
It's not a problem.
That's, that's a great idea.
You don't have to just go withone person.
You can go with as many as youwant and I will steer you in the
right direction for the, youknow, for the right ones.

(06:53):
But it is, it's very importantif it was my mom needing help, I
would say, you know, check witha few, sign up with a few.
We don't mind.
We're happy to happy to be, inthe mix.
That's

Speaker 2 (07:03):
A very good, you know, and that's something
that's different about Floridatoo is because my dad lives in
Ohio.
And when he was, when he got outthe hospital, he had a procedure
done and I was trying to get asenior care just to come and
take care of him just a couplehours a day.
Couldn't find one, couldn't findanything.
Yeah.
Where here, I mean, you guysreally cater to the senior life

(07:25):
here and you really wanna helpthem and find whatever they
need.
You can call in, you can callyou guys there's so many care
facilities that will help them,it's it's unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Yeah.
I would say there's about 60home care agencies in about a 60
mile radius.
So there, see, that's a lot.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
So there's usually help when youneed it.
It's finding the good help.
And we're only as good as thecaregiver that we send.
And the beauty of it is, is thatif for some reason our client
doesn't like the caregiver orthey don't, they're not meshing,

(07:56):
then just call us.
We, we take them out, will putsomebody else in, so they don't
have to do any of the HR.
Oh.
So that is really nice.
Yeah.
They don't have to speak to themand you know, that
uncomfortableness of trying to,you know, hire and fire,

Speaker 2 (08:09):
They call you and say, oh, I'm not

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Really clicking with this one.
Yeah, exactly.
So, you know, everybody's notfor everyone.
So yeah,

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Definitely just

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Like every home is for every person, not like it's
insulting that they don't choosethat property.
Right.
Right.
But you're gonna find them abetter one.
I c ould tell y ou.
Exactly.
Right.
R ight.
So

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Do you have a tip for our listeners that that comes to
mind?

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Well, I would say definitely do your homework.
And like I said, you know, you're only as good as a
caregiver you send and, GriswoldHome Care has been in existence
for almost 40 years now.
They opened in 1982.
Gene Griswold, was a geriatriccounselor.
Her husband was a Presbyterianminister and he, and they had a

(08:53):
parishioner in their church whoshe actually passed away
because, u m, no one was thereto check on her a nd check on
her vitals.
So J ean a s w ell, and hergirlfriends started a volunteer
group to check on all theelderly in their area in
Pennsylvania and it became this.
And it was in such demand thatthey used t o s tarted t he

(09:14):
first home c are company in thecountry.
And, a nd it's grown t o over300 locations in over 30 states.
W ow.
I didn't k now t hat you'relooking for experience and
knowing what to do.
And when it can,

Speaker 4 (09:27):
I love that story cuz you get a vision of what their
vision is like.
It comes from the heart ofcaring and, and really want
wanting to take care and fill areal,

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Real, huge need, huge need, huge need.
And there's also the geneGriswold foundation which
donates, money and resources toseniors in need, all over the
country.
And every year we give outthousands of dollar worth of,
scholarships and grants tononprofits.

(10:01):
I think last year we did theHarry Chapin food bank for
seniors.
So if anybody listening has anonprofit that they would like
that they help the seniors inour community, they can apply
with the Griswold foundationthat's and then with our
endorsement, then they'rereviewed by the committee and
they can apply year after year.
And so that's a really good, howdo they apply for that?

(10:24):
Do they agree through, JeanGriswold foundation.com.
Yeah.
that's Jean Yeah.
J E A N and then Griswoldfoundation.com.
Awesome.
and you can research it, andthey'll tell you all about it,
where it goes.
And we have a new program thiscoming year.
I think it started, just beforethe change of the year for the

(10:45):
caregivers as well, caregiversin need of help, with their
education trying t o so they canget scholarships better t
hemselves.
Y es.
So that's a new part of JeanGriswolds legacy that l ives o n
t hat's h uge.
Y eah.
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:59):
So that's what way to see a need and fill

Speaker 3 (11:02):
It right.
Yeah, exactly.
And it just follows through foryears and years now.
And since they're passing,that's amazing.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
That's really nice.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
How about any personal places you like to go
to in Southwest Florida?
Oh, I love all.
I love all of south SouthwestFlorida.
I love all of Bonita of course.
And living in Naples.
I love the Naples area.
It's fun to be on boats and goup to Fort Myers.
You know, love the water and, love r eally love all of

(11:32):
Southwest.
Wh at d o yo u u sually whensomebody comes to visit, where
do you usually take th em?
Oh, to the beach of course.
An d r e al b e ach b e ach i sa big one.
Downtown Naples is a big one.
Docs on Bonita beach is alwaysour favorite when we, someone
comes in off the airport.
Um, I love the, a s t erile area with, u m, t he coconut
point mm-hmm< a ffirmative> everybody loves to shop there.
There's a T o mmy B ahamas andum, t hat's always a favorite.

(11:56):
Um, t here's always something.
Yeah.
My grandkids love the zoo.
The Na ples z oo.
No, I l ove the zoo.
The Gano children's museum isone of their favorites.
The water pa rk, you know, withth e, with the la zy r iver is a
lways a good one.
Even my 85 ye ar o l d m om.
It's t he lazy river.

Speaker 4 (12:13):
That's awesome.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Neither.
Oh, it's in the north Naplespark right off of moley in
Livingston.
Really?

Speaker 4 (12:20):
That's a good tip.
Oh, it there you, it's a great, that's an

Speaker 3 (12:23):
Unknown.
We didn't know about that.
No, it's a great, um, yeah, it'sa great water park.
That's awesome.
It just got remodeled and redonelast year.
So it'll be open probably springbreak or maybe summer early
summer.
I don't know when they open, butit's a fun place to go for
families.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
That's fun.
Really fun.
That's so we tend to get off ontangents.
Is there anything that we didn'ttouch on that you'd like to
throw out there before we wellsign off, let's see our

Speaker 3 (12:50):
Caregivers of course are, um, our carefully screen,
their level two B backgroundchecked, fingerprinted all their
licensure, their certification.
If their CNAs through the stateof Florida or whatever state
they were licensed in, if theirhome health aids, their
certification, where they gottheir training from which
schools we double check it, weactually call the schools.
We make sure that we get the, the, you know, cause anyone can

(13:13):
print a cert certifi of, um, acertificate nowadays.
So we, um, we don't just take itby their word.
We, we verify it when it waslast done that their, their
statement that they're free ofcommunicable disease from their
physician, their driver'slicense, uh, their insurance E
everything is double checked, triple checked, and it's done
every year.
So, um, that's awesome.

(13:33):
So no matter where they lived inthe in the world,
not even just in the country orthe county, um, we've got,'em
covered.
We, we check'em so, um, cause alot of the caregivers come from
other parts of the mm-hmm mm-hmm
from other partsor the islands, but that doesn't
mean that we don't, um, checkwhere they came from.
So that's really good.
So they've been, so they've beenscreened no matter what and
where, but um, we always makesure that if we trust them in

(13:56):
our homes, then we would trustthem in, in someone else's.
So, um, that's kind of how it is, you know,

Speaker 4 (14:02):
Wonderful.
And being again, beingdownstairs, we've noticed that
there's a high quality, likethey're high caliber people
we've we've gotten to know them.
Yeah.
And, um, we've gotten to knowMax's yes.
The neighborhood dog.
Yes.
That we get treat you now.
Yeah.
They, they really, I mean, yougo out and serve the community,

(14:23):
but you're also part of ourcommunity here.
And you can tell that by the, those, uh, caregivers and people
that work

Speaker 3 (14:30):
With you.
So thank you.
Thank you.
And we're just always impressedwith, with your office and your,
uh, you know, up your, yourfriendliness and your you're
always, you know, willing tohelp.
And, um, um, just how passionateyou are about selling and buying
Southwest Florida.
So we are happy to partner withyou and, um, give you lots of

(14:52):
referrals and um, um, cuz we dohave a lot of people that move
around and come from the north, come back and forth and then
decide they, they love it somuch here that they're gonna
stay in Southwest Florida.
It

Speaker 4 (15:03):
Doesn't, it's good.
It's good to have, um,community.
Right.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
