Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the live your best life barefoot podcast

(00:02):
with your host Mary Morris andthe team at barefoot bungalow
Realty.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Good morning, and welcome to the next episode of
live your best life barefoot.
We're here today with Marie kinKenard and we are gonna have
mark Mary do a market updatefirst.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Actually, I'm excited to have Marie with us, cuz I am
gonna put her on the spot andlet her do our market update.
Woo.
Are you good with that?

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Ooh, I am really good with that.
This is really a cool update.
Um, just give me one secondbecause actually I was looking
at those numbers yesterday, which was pretty darn amazing.
Um, our inventory has increased, which is a good thing.
It is, Uh, we're starting to seean 8% in inventory increase, um,

(00:48):
over the months and our, oursales have been down,
unfortunately.
Wow.
Um, I, I think a lot ofsnowbirds have been leaving.
Um, a lot of people decided thatthey were gonna to not sell and
the ones that are selling are ina good place right now because
they've got multiple buyersituation and the seller can

(01:10):
pretty much, pretty much.
I mean with reason, of coursenot being ridiculous can command
their own price, um, with thehelp of agents of course,
because we can help themnegotiate that price.
So with that being said, I I'mlooking up my statistics from
yesterday, which was the 8%,which was good, the 8% in the

(01:34):
growth of inventory because our,our inventory used to be, we
used to be three to six monthsof inventory lately.
We've been down to what a week?
Yeah, two weeks.
Yeah.
Right.
Three weeks.
So that's a great thing foreveryone.
That

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Is, that is a great scene.
And so with that, the reason Itrust, um, Marie to give us our
update is because she is one ofour colleagues in this real
estate industry.
And she's been in real estatefor quite a while.
So why don't you introduceyourself and tell us a little
bit about your journey and um,what you're doing.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
Thanks Mary.
So I started in my real estatecareer in 1986, over in Miami.
I moved down from Massachusettsand um, 84 and I started in real
estate working for aconstruction firm and a family
owned local construction firm, but it was also an inter they
worked internationally in St.

(02:36):
Croix.
And in some of the islands, theVirgin islands St.
John and I had the opportunityto work with three general of
family members.
And so they're still actually inbusiness today.
I was just it, I was inspired bythe real estate and they said,

(02:56):
Marie, you need to get your realestate license.
You're gonna really, reallyenjoy, um, selling homes.
So eventually I did, I workedwith them for many years and
have my real estate license inthree states.
I'm down to two states now, brokers license in North
Carolina and brokers license inFlorida.

(03:18):
And, and been doing that eversince, uh, between owning
property in different states.
I accumulated multiple realestate licenses and recently
opened my own company, Which isawesome.
And I'm located in pun Goda.
So we also are opening an officeright now are on the space coast

(03:40):
.
So that's very exciting.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
That's exciting.
So tell us about, um, the spacecoast, cuz I know I'm not as
familiar.
In fact, we're going to go overthere for the first time.
I've never been there.
So tell us about the space coastand maybe a little bit about the
real estate market over there.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
So if you can get one of the lighthouse tours okay.
Which is really cool.
So, um, Elon Musk on, on that,on that peninsula area, Elon
Musk, um, and Beto also have alaunching pad where they are
launching from and the, the, you, you want to go see the

(04:21):
lighthouse tour, book it inadvance because they get booked
out weeks in advance.
Um, perhaps as we go into thesummer, there'll be a little bit
less demand for that, but it'sbeen, we, we, we were able to
tour, um, and the museums andthe amazing ship rockets that

(04:42):
have been sent out, they've madeback into their original, how
they were originally designedand the, the information is
amazing.
So my husband is excellent onhis, his father and his uncle
were both Navy pilots.
So one of the things and over onthe space coast.

(05:03):
So now you're gonna be, as faras being on the east coast of
Florida, you're, you're morecentralized.
So you're, it's just east ofOrlando and you're, you're on
the ocean side instead of theGulf side, there's a little bit
of a different feel about theocean, as you probably know,

(05:23):
mm-hmm um, livingin Miami, I was used to that.
So, um, plenty to do demand isthe, the prices are about the
same as we're feeling here.
Um, lots of people wanting tomove to Florida.
Some of them permanently, someof them for investment, some of
them for second at homes and alot of them are they're starting

(05:46):
realizing they can work fromhome.
So why wouldn't we move inFlorida where we can walk
barefoot 24 hours a day.
Right?

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Exactly.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
There you go

Speaker 3 (05:57):
All year long.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Yeah.
All year long.
That's awesome.
No snow, no shovelingyeah.
Yeah.
And this morning was verypleasant.
I woke up and it was, um, in thelow, it was like 58 degrees at
our house.
And, and then it'll be up intothe seventies and eighties
today, but it's very pleasant tohave the windows open and then

(06:21):
just really enjoy that coolweather in April.
I think people have a perceptionof, Florida's always hot.
Florida's always humid.
I'd rather be locked in my housefor a few hours during the
summer than live for eight, myin the winter with your heat on,
right.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Exactly.
My son and I were just laughingbecause they had a friend coming
into town that their plane gotdelayed because of weather.
And we, I think we forget thatthe rest of the world or the
rest of the country has, hasyeah.
Issues with flights because ofweather because it is beautiful.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
I heard, uh, was it Friday or Saturday Chicago and
up in that region, they had snowand yeah, that's just crazy.
My father lives in Massachusettsand he had snow the last two
years in the first week of may.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Oh, wow.
So

Speaker 4 (07:17):
I hope the 1st of May , they he's like it's snowing
it's we, we got two inches thisweek and I said, wow, that's
crazy for may.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Right.
Right.
So Florida is a fabulousalternative to that.

Speaker 4 (07:30):
It is.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
And tell us more about your space coast,
adventure over there and whatyou're doing.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
So we're, we're getting it's, uh, a few team
members together and we're gonnabe working on getting some
listings and getting out in thecommunity and, and sh what I
call sharing the love.
We're very community orientedwith avenue sunshine.
We want have the goal of it's,it's more of a family operate

(08:00):
and we serve, we're not lookingafter shareholders.
We're looking at the needs ofthat particular community
because that particularcommunity might not be like our
community over in the spacecoast.
There are a lot of militaryfamilies, uh, huge military.
And my whole background, I havea member in every branch of

(08:21):
service.
That's cool, including the spaceforce.
So I, I'm very honored to havethat in my family.
And I'm very honored to know alot of people that are on the
base as well as off base.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
That's awesome.
That is awesome.
I love that.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
So tell us where you see yourself and, um, your new
company moving forward.
Um, both here.
And so you're in Punte Goda.
We should clarify that you're inPunte Goda and you're on the
space coast.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
That is correct.
Yes.
So

Speaker 3 (08:59):
Why is your dream?

Speaker 4 (09:01):
What is our dream?
Um, the dream for us is that we,my dream and a few others that
are partnered with me, our dreamis to build people, um, there,
what their dream is.
I want independent agents tojoin us and to realize that you

(09:22):
can grow yourself, we want toinspire.
We want you to have growth.
We wanna see your families grow.
We wanna see those dreams thatespecially during this pandemic
and what's been going on in thelast few years and the price of
gasoline, I mean, an hourly wageanymore is absolutely absurd.

(09:42):
How C I just filled up 20gallons in my truck yesterday.
I paid a hundred dollars.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
Wow, wow.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
20 gallons, a hundred dollars,$5 a gallon who wants
to, who, who can afford.
So my point is is we, we canhelp the community, help make
people some more money in theirpockets while they're doing good
for someone, right.
With the authenticity ofhonestly listening to people's

(10:12):
needs and honestly working forsomeone and helping them fulfill
their goals.
Ultimately helping yourself, ifyou don't help someone else.
And the start of your day is allabout selfishness.
You're not gonna get anywhere inlife.
You may get somewhere, butyou're not going to, it's gonna
be a squeaky, a squeaky road.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
I love that.
I love that vision.
Yeah, yeah,

Speaker 4 (10:34):
Yeah.
That's, that's how we look.
Got it.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Well, and, and part of why I love having you on
today is I want our listeners tograsp a bigger picture of that
community mindset and that, um,as realtors and at barefoot
bungalow, we love partneringwith other, um, colleagues in

(10:57):
the real estate communities sothat we can provide that service
, um, all over the country, really.
So creating these connectionswith you and I, you know, people
that my clients might need andvice versa.
So, um, I love that vision ofhelping each other

(11:17):
and building our community.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Exactly it.
That's where we meet the needsof our clients.
I have people that just like yousent someone up to me about a
rental for the Punta Goda area,I turn around and I'll, I'll do
the same for you for either arental or a buy you're.
You're the expert in, in theBonita, in the, the area in the

(11:42):
Fort Myers areas.
So, um, I'm we work together.
I have clients out inCalifornia.
I have people in right now fromthe state of Washington, they're
discovering Florida.
They're not sure where theywanna be.
I may have to send them up toJacksonville.
They may wanna go over to Miami.
So thankfully we have partnersacross the nation that, um, Mary

(12:05):
and Ruth with barefoot bungalowhomes are part of.
So this, this network that we'rein is an awesome, awesome
community of the top 10% ofagents in the nation.
And we're, we're, we're just allvery honored to have that.
We don't just sell the luxuryhomes.
We don't just we're, I'm notexclusively luxury.

(12:28):
I I'm waterfront I'm any, anyperson that wants to come down
and retire in a condominium, uh,we're open to many, many
avenues.
I'm not gonna close the door onsomeone who says, I can only
afford a$400,000 home.
Hey, let's get you in a$400,000home.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
Cause that's luxury to them.
That's their luxury, right.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
That's right.
Exactly.
And they may already have a homeup north and they just wanna
live down here for a few monthsof the year.
So we have to be open to allpeople.
Absolutely,

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Absolutely.
Yep.
And that's, that's what I, mysister, my sister, getting ready
to sell her house.
And I was lucky enough to beable to have that opportunity
that I could refer somebody fromour side, side family to her
that they're actually like goingto meet with her on Tuesday.
So I'm excited about that, cuz Iknow, I, I feel trust.
I feel trust in them thatthey'll be able to help her, you

(13:22):
know, and not,

Speaker 3 (13:23):
It's not

Speaker 2 (13:23):
The same caliber cause the same caliber.
Exactly.
Right,

Speaker 4 (13:26):
Right.
That's excellent.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
All right, Marie, I'm gonna put you on the spot again.
I love the lighthousesuggestion.
Is there, uh, number one, a realestate suggestion that our view
our listeners can take away.
And number two, is there a PuntaGorda, um, tip or suggestion?

Speaker 4 (13:45):
So, so the space coast we've got, we've got Cape
Canaveral, cocoa beach,Melbourne.
Um, there's a lot of surroundingareas.
I'm starting to see some, um,lean towards some larger
companies.
Costco has just built a, um, aCostco in the area, which is

(14:07):
excellent.
That's huge.
Um, Melbourne was rated one ofthe top growing areas for
multiple reasons, for work, reason, work related reasons for
vacation related reasons.
So it's just something to kindof stand by and watch because
it's, it's gonna happen.
Um, it's, it's a nice area forthe restaurants are great.

(14:31):
The, the beaches are great andthe weather is great.
Right?
So as far as Punta Goda goes, soa tip for Punta Goda would be,
um, the historic district ofPunta Goda is, is you, you feel
like you're a little bit setback in time.
You're, you're coming to a city,but it's a small city and you're

(14:57):
walking around and you're like,am I really in Florida?
Wait a minute.
You, you, you feel like you'rein a small town sort of feeling
mm-hmm um, we havea, um, a building height that
we're allowed to build tomultiple times over the last
several years, we've hadseveral, several companies come
in and try to get that waved.

(15:19):
We, we thankfully have notallowed that the reason people
live in Punta Goda is to getthat smaller town feeling.
Even though we're a small citymm-hmm, um, we're
located right on CharlotteHarbor.
And if you watch my video, Ishare a little bit about that on
, um, avenue sunshine in PuntaGoda.
So www avenue, sunshine.com iswhere you could see a little bit

(15:43):
more of what I'm telling youabout.

Speaker 3 (15:45):
And we'll put those in the show notes.
Definitely.
So people can just click andlink to that.

Speaker 4 (15:50):
Okay.
That sounds was great.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
I love it.
Well, thank you for coming onMarie.
And um, we love working with youand, um, having you as part of
our real estate family.
Um, and we look forward to manymore years to come.

Speaker 4 (16:06):

Absolutely.
Thank you all for your time andfor the opportunity, really
appreci sheet speaking with youand thank you else, everyone.
Thank

Speaker 3 (16:15):

Speaker 3 (16:23):
